My 2 year old and 4 year old LOVE Thomas stuff and this train is no exception.

My only negative is that if kids really beat on them, drop them on the floor, scrape them etc (which kids tend to do) the paint chips of a little. But they're made with real wood, so I guess that's to be expected.
If your child enjoys acting out the Thomas&Friends episodes, Duck is one of the more sensible engines. He is a big green tank engine with the GWR logo on the sides. He stands no nonsense from the engines and freight cars who try to boss him around, and does things his own way--the Great Western way. Unfortunately, sometimes the freight cars get the best of him, especially when they make him crash through a barber shop in "A Close Shave For Duck."

If you could use a sensible engine in your layout, then Duck is for you. Don't worry if he's accident-prone, though. You could always get an engine that will tow him back into place. Then, Duck will be ready to work the Great Western way again.
If you have the Thomas series wooden railway series, then by all means, be sure you get Duck. He's just one of the older trains, and is almost in each and every video. He doesn't usually have a large role, but he's a kind and good friend to all the engines. This guy gets taken to bed in our house and also, everywhere we go. It's pretty funny listening to all the role playing going on in the carseat with this guy and hey, he can even dance to the Wiggles! These trains definitely develop imagination and fine motor skills, but they also become friends. These wooden guys are VERY durable too. They don't chip like you'd think they would when dropped onto the floor. We plan on keeping our wooden train series and interconnecting them with a "real" train set when our little one gets older. Also, don't forget to check out the HO series of Thomas here on amazon. I didn't know they existed and what a neat way to introduce your little one to the fascinating world of trains. Something they can definitely grow up with and use for quite some time. Highly recommend Duck!
This toy is really durable. My sister threw it down our stairs a buch of times and it didn't even get a scratch. This is well worth the money and a great addition to anyone's collection.
The learning curve Thomas sets are among the best toy train sets I've seen. The toys are especially durable and well-made. Duck is a unique engine who has some prominent roles in some of the earlier, original Thomas stories. The Duck engine toy is a good addition to an existing Thomas train set.

Toy is built well-enough to handle lots of use. The included ramps are flimy and narrow (use cardboard and a brick for a ramp). I bought it for my son...we have had fun with it. Not as thrilling as it used to be. My son does not play with it very often.

The bike tends to come off the ramp as you begin turning the crank. You must awkwardly hold the bike onto the ramp, keep the ramp planted firmly to the ground and crank the handle all at once....a bit challenging.

As you can see from past postings, there is a lot of disappointment with this set. This is down to poor quality control, with a lot of bikes not put together correctly. Trust me, get a good one and it's a lot of fun, a bad one, and it's worse than useless. Come on poof-slinky/ideal, this iconic toy deserves better!
Great product, just like the older set but better. I liked being able to show my son one of the toys i played with as a child without the vintage price tag. Long live King Knievel.
This is a slammin old school toy!! I had one when I was young and my boys love it now. The quality of the toy is great and it is very fast. I strongly recommend it.
I had the opportunity to compare this full deluxe set with the Deluxe Stunt Cycle only set. This is the better made of the two.

Don't buy the red, blue and chrome cycle, it is not made anywhere near as well as the black, white and chrome version that came with the Deluxe Stunt Set.

The Red, Blue&Chrome cycle is absolutely beautiful, but in my estimation it is otherwise junk. It is fit only for display. The gyro inside the cycle is defective in manufacturing somehow. It wont crank as fast as the other cycle, it is way louder with a grinding, screech that hurts my teeth and destroys my ears, and was very rough running. I took 12 of them (red, blue chrome cycle) out of the box and every last one was junk. All had the same problem.

The Black, White&Chrome cycle, however, was very smooth running, cranked easily to very high speeds and jumped wonderfully. The only problem I have with this set is that energizer (winder) has stripped a gear or some teeth or something because it went from working great to slipping and wont crank the bike that fast anymore. I only had this about 2 weeks when it happend.

If you are going to get a set, definately get the Deluxe set with he ramps and hoop of fire, brick wall etc. It has the better bike. I think the good bike is now available without the other stuff in the set as well. The chrome bike is junk...steer clear of that set.

The fire station and related items have been recalled due to possible lead paint contamination from the Chinese factory which manufactured them.
We love Thomas! Not just my 4 year old son, but I love building layouts with him as well.

We recently ordered the Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway-Fire Station. While overall, my son loves it and plays with it daily, it arrived broken. The roof is not attached, so when he plays he just puts it back on. Normally Thomas (wooden) products are very well made and hold up, but this one just needs some super glue to glue the roof back on.

Overall, I'd recommend this toy. A fire station is a fun addition to any rail system!
I hoped to get this as a home for the Sodor fire crew engines I already owned. It was a pretty good destination and it came with an adapter you can use for the rails or the road. The reason why I give this destination 4 stars instead of 5 is because the fire truck is slow to come out of the garage at times, and you may want to glue the fire truck's hose and the roof pieces so that they do not get lost (as I have done). Despite this, I think it was a pretty good destination, and it would make a good addition to your collection.
This fire station can be a cute addition to your childs Thomas set. However it can be tricky to fit into a layout. Sturdy, no problems there. You may want to super glue the hose attachment on so it doesn't get lost.
My son loves all the Thomas stuff and this fire station is a great, very sturdy addition!

Turn the big red knob and the bell will ring as the fire truck pops out of the station. Comes with two vehicles and interchangable hose attachment. Measures 7" long.

This toy was bought for my child therapy practice and I took one look at the contents and knew that it was too complicated and had so little reference to a real car that there was no way to relate to it. I am going to give it to my grandson for his birthday, and I wonder if he won't find it too complicated also. Your basic gears are much more useable and allow the child to create their own fun. I will buy one of those and let the kid create their own jalopy.
We got this toy for our son's 4th birthday. It is definitely way too hard for him to put together himself, but like another reviewer said, it was fun for him to identify the pieces by color and to fetch them to dad; BUT all that being said, 100+ pieces quickly lose to the short attention span of a 4-year-old boy. Dad kinda messed up in the end, because the robot didn't move right (it clicked and clacked but struggled to go forward AND backward at the same time). He then realized he forgot a few parts! That could be a criticism on the instructions or my husband's ability to read them, so I will leave this to your imagination. Overall, my son was thrilled once it worked, but he played with it for a few minutes and that was it. I think this will be a better toy in a few years when he could do the building all by himself. I am going to stick to Legos for now. He plays with those for ever and ever. He is also a fabulous marble-run builder. Perhaps when he tears the Jalopy apart and builds his own concoction, it will be fun (though it might not move). I dare say the best part of this toy is the name. My 2 year old and my 4 year old both love saying "Floppy Jalopy."
Great toy and fun to put together and play with. Our 4.5 year old loves it. Part and gear meshing is relatively loose which makes it easier to put together..but a bit jerky while running. Remote control only allows for forward and backwards motion..no turning. Overall a fun toy for kids not ready for lego mindstorms.
My kids were so excited to play with this toy that they couldn't wait for mom and dad to help them remove the parts. They broke the main gear box with the extendable remote for the car. The remote piece snapped off and it is impossible to glue back together because it is on a wheel. I would definately wait until your kids are at least 6 or 7 before purchasing this. Without the main part of the toy this car won't work.
This is a great toy for critical thinking and for following directions. We found that it takes a lot of patience for a four year old because he can't do much of the 'putting together' by himself - some pieces are a tight fit and the directions are complex.

This Thomas Take-Along toy was a much better purchase than the last couple of toys from the same company. This toy seems to be better built, better thought out and a LOT more durable. Recently I was losing faith in the Learning Curve toys, but this is more sturdy like earlier efforts. I hope the company realized they were going too cheapy on last couple of Thomas toys. This one I would recommend.

My son has had this set for two years, and still loves it today!! It is a pain to put together at first, but once you do it a few times it's not so hard. My son loves to see the noisy boulder fall down and chase the train down the mountain. Overall I think this set is a very well made and fun toy.
Assembly of this toy is incredibly difficult as the ramp pieces are hard to connect. My son usually had the thing in a dozen pieces after 5 minutes of play. Attaching the ramp without instructions was another puzzling exercise in futility.

This toy is also not easy to pack up back in its carrying case. Lots of cheap, hard-to-assemble pieces and a tendency to fall apart make this toy a stinker.

I am usually a stickler about one type of toy from my child but because of entertainment reasons my child has a few of these Take Along Thomas toys. We love the wooden ones and want to keep them at home because of the price we don't want to see them lost.

I purchased this boulder set at our local Target for 4.98. It has been a well made toy for that price but I can't see paying 19.99 for it. We purchased it for a future trip but after getting it home and looking it over it's a little big for a plane or train ride.

My son has enjoyed it on trips where he can play with it in a hotel or camping. I probably won't invest a lot of money in this Thomas series but instead buy the wooden ones for home and figure out something else for trips.

Overall it's a fun toy for my son! As far as the convince factor they try to sell parents on, well my outlook is dismal because they missed the mark for travel. I will give them a better rating because my son likes to play with it.

We got this as a birthday gift when my baby boy was one. He loved these colorful cars at the first sight. The smaller size of the car is just perfect for young toddlers to grab and handle. These cars are very well made. It has been almost a year now and they still looks like new! My baby has been having so much fun with these cars. I got the construction set too. That is also a great set of cars. Highly recommended for baby shower gifts and baby's birthday gifts!
These wheel pals are absolutely stunning&disctinct and worth the prize you pay for them...there're no sharp edges and so they are very safe for kids of all ages...I bought 'em when my son was 18 months old and he just loves them like anything...they're handy, soft on top and the wheels are hard but smooth....My son just doesn't want to part with them and these are the ones he always reaches for, when he's all set to play ....The bright colors attract kids a lot...As of now he has the Train, Fire truck and the yellow cab and I am planning to add more in to his collection....
