In this groundbreaking work, Sara Ahmed demonstrates how queer studies can put phenomenology to productive use. Focusing on the“orientation” aspect of“sexual orientation” and the“orient” in“orientalism,” Ahmed examines what it means for bodies to be situated in space and time. Bodies take shape as they move through the world directing themselves toward or away from objects and others. Being“orientated” means feeling at home, knowing where one stands, or having certain objects within reach. Orientations affect what is proximate to the body or what can be reached. A queer phenomenology, Ahmed contends, reveals how social relations are arranged spatially, how queerness disrupts and reorders these relations by not following the accepted paths, and how a politics of disorientation puts other objects within reach, those that might, at first glance, seem awry.

Ahmed proposes that a queer phenomenology might investigate not only how the concept of orientation is informed by phenomenology but also the orientation of phenomenology itself. Thus she reflects on the significance of the objects that appear—and those that do not—as signs of orientation in classic phenomenological texts such as Husserl’sIdeas. In developing a queer model of orientations, she combines readings of phenomenological texts—by Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, and Fanon—with insights drawn from queer studies, feminist theory, critical race theory, Marxism, and psychoanalysis.Queer Phenomenologypoints queer theory in bold new directions.

customer 's review
(Not quite there)

(Helpful if you are outgoing and experienced)

(In Response To Jennifer M's Review)

(Sexist!!! Stereotyped!!! Objectifying!!!)

(Well Put!)
The thing is that a man should have a steady relationship and if his woman is willing to try and recruit another woman for a threesome, then this book has no new information to offer. If you are lucky enough to meet such a woman then she will do all the work anyway, you can just play along while it lasts.
This book serves no purpose towards realising the most popular male fantasy. All you have to do it find an openly bi-sexual woman. everybody knows its a lot harder than it sounds

This book has some ideas on how to find a third person, but they all seemed to be geared towards someone with experience in same-sex or group-sex activities. If you are wanting to try this out as "something new" then most of these tips may be too scary or uncomfortable for you!
Plus, it gives ideas like, "Place a personal ad." We all know about that route! Give me something I wouldnt think of myself!!!

This is just in response to Jennifer M's review and advice. I'm a guy and if you (the woman) seek out another woman on your own and don't include me (the male) thats not a threesome, thats lesbian sex. There is a big difference between the two, maybe you have not experienced a threesome but I guarentee you it's a totally different exerience than having one same sex partner. Think along these lines, one partner has two hands, one mouth, etc etc, two partners have 4 hands, two mouths, two private parts, to touch you with. Think about it, plus when you do a threesome in a committed relationship you will find that if you are both on the same page beforehand that your relationship will become stronger and that now you have many possibilities sexualy that you didn't before. If you have seperate lesbian sex I don't see that as fulfilling the m/f relationship and may result in resentment from the male (if he knows about it, which you probably didn't tell him you were going to do) and not reenforcing the BI element of the woman resulting in a dissinterest eventually in a straight component of the relationship. My bottom line is I think Jennifer is a lesbian who resents bisexuality, but thats my opinion so take it for what its worth. I'm ordering this book, after having done a threesome in Thailand with the same woman and my wife for a week, if nothing else just to get the communication continuing, and keep the talk going for this great encounter in my future, I'll update my review after I see the results, but just had to weigh in on Jennifer's advice to skip the threesome and move straight into 2 person lesbian sex.
This is the most sexist book I have ever read. Women are portrayed as an object for men to play with. It stereotypes men as horny pigs that use women including their spouse only for sex. This book stereotypes the fact that women are not as sexual as men and have to be convinced by her spouse to have sex with him and another woman. This book is not ment for anyone intending to have sex including one woman and two men. In the event that one woman has sex with two men, the scenario includes all three people being drunk, and the woman who was instigating it all claims that the two men took advantage of her. If this book could be rated less than one star then I would have done so.
This book was the first book I've ever read on threesomes. Being a Threesome Expert Myself I have to admit that this book is a good "beginners book".
This classic book is still the best! The authors of "Anal Sex for Couples: A Guaranteed Guide to Painless Pleasure" lead you to the ultimate experience. Lori explains:

How couples or singles can create and enjoy any combination of partners.
Why "normal" women are sexually adventurous and bi-curious
How best friends can explore each other emotionally and physically
The easiest methods to broach the subject
How to erase her fears and fan her passions
How simplify that crucial first time
How to keep her coming back for more

Your fantasies can come true and this is where you start.

(Partners Delivers Again)

(Captivating anthology laced with deep emotions.)

(Partners in Crime)
I wish that I could read something written anonymously by Josh Lanyon so that I may know for certain whether it is the work or him that I love. As that pepsi challenge is highly unlikely I'll have to resign myself to craven groupiehood. Lucky us, this man can't seem to put out anything but stellar work. This story is a bit of a departure for him as it is light in the mystery content, in the conventional sense. Rather than a caper to solve, it is the main character's life and true desires that presents the mystery which unfolds in very satisfying fashion with much authenticity and bittersweet humor.

I have often had difficulty connecting with Black's stories, though the quality is always evident. However "Murder..." truly grabbed me from first to last. The characters are vivid and the emotional content palpable. Perhaps the main theme just seemed so prescient, the experience of young people returning from the ravages of war to the broken trajectory of their lives and somehow, with great effort, finding peace. Whatever the case may, don't miss this offering in the Partners in Crime series.

I love this series and this 3rd in the series has me glued to each story till the end.

Josh has given us another absorbing, intense and emotional story in "I spy something bloody". Mark, the young British spy, is one interesting and compelling character whom I feel deeply for. Completely burnt-out by the hellish conflicts in Afghanistan, barely escaping with his life, he is deeply scarred both physically and mentally and barely on his feet. His only salvation is the much older and solid Stephen, a well established doctor in his community. But Stephen abandoned for 2 years by Mark is not about to risk his heart again. The emotions run deep, the stirring and at times poignant atmosphere as a "broken" Mark desperately tries to convince a distrustful Stephen is so well written and moving and have me worried if Mark could ever win his unforgiving lover back. Certain parts are almost heartbreaking as Mark struggles to find himself and break the barrier between him and Stephen. It takes a life threatening situation to bring these 2 men together and the suspensful and breathtaking moments here have me at the edge of my seat. Josh just writes it so well. The ending is most uplifting as I find myself heaving a sigh of relief for these 2 men. Kudos to Josh for this emotionally driven story, with its intense and deeply absorbing narration.

Sarah's "Murder at Black Dog Springs" is one haunting, original and moving story as she gives us the lasting impact of war on young men permanently scarred by it. Not easy to comment on this one as this remarkable story manages to tells so much in just 120+ pages. The story begins in early 2008 when one young recruit comes looking for his 2 Grandpas, and I thought this part is well done, letting us know in a bare 2 pages the Iraq war which knows no mercy and 2 men who have found the love for a lifetime as the writer quotes at the end. These 2 men are of course the Grandpas as the story takes us back to their stories in 1947 after WWII ended with the dropping of the atomic bombs. Both Logan, a Navajo minority, and Mike, son of a wealthy miner, have done their part and back from the War. Having witnessed the atrocities of the atomic bombs they are barely able to cope. Their deep love for each other is the only certainty in life and they have to fight hard to hold on to it. Fortunately they have the full support of Logan's grandfather, such a endearing character, two Navajo old women and their 2 brothers-in-arms, Curtis and Jay. I enjoy the deep bond among the 4 men here, Sarah expressing the brotherhood forged from the horrors of war so well. Her characters simply shine as each one is so well developed and unique. And underlying the story is the Navajo's myth and the greed of men as Mike's father seeks to rob land, rich in uranium, from the Navajos. This is one complex and rich plot but Sarah manages to inject some wonderfully humorous moments too as Mike is accepted by Logan's family. Ultimately it is the beautiful love story of these 2 men which truly stands out.

Bravo Josh and Sarah. I am just surprised this amazing series is not more popular.

I am one of Josh Lanyon's groupies so you ought to know that going in. However, this was a new direction for him and I really enjoyed the story. Sarah Black's stories are always good and this one was great. I can't say enough good things about the Partners in Crime Anthologies. MLR has done a really good job of putting complementary authors together to help balance each story.
Footsteps in The Dark Partners in Crime 3 By Josh Lanyon&Sarah Black Spy Something Bloody Espionage was always a game, but now British spy Mark Hardwicke wants to retire and settle down with ex-lover Dr. Stephen Thorpe -- if Stephen will have him. Unfortunately, Stephen has other plans -- and so do the terrorists who want Mark dead. Murder At Black Dog Springs Code-talker Logan Kee returns to his home on the Navajo Reservation from the battlefields of Saipan. But a new battle is waiting for him. Uranium mining has begun within the four sacred mountains. When the old hand-trembler dies at Black Dog Springs, rumors fly that Leetso, the yellow monster, has been set free to walk the land.

(Understanding and accepting your gay child)

(Great for parents who want enlightenment)

(Good for parents!)

(Many good stories)

(Important help for"new"parents)
The 30th anniversary of PFLAG is a fitting time for this updated edition. Former national vice president of PFLAG, Robert Bernstein has chronicled not only his own journey to acceptance and support of his lesbian daughter, but also the founding and continuing growth of PFLAG.
Moving stories of the founders and leaders of PFLAG blend with Bernstein's story. These tales underline the ability of loving parents to work together toward acceptance of their children's differences. Following their initial shock, guilt, and grief, all these parents have found their way to acceptance and respect for their special children. Their realization that this is still the child they love is the first great step. Most have gone on from this stage to help and support other parents through their early traumas and into the light and joy of truly sharing their children's lives. PFLAG plays a major role in all their lives. Many have become staunch advocates for equality and acceptance of their own and all other such children into the larger community.
Straight Parents, Gay Children includes stories of celebrities, politicians (even the Vice President of the US), and religious leaders of many faiths who have faced and accepted homosexuality for themselves or within their families. These highly visible community and national leaders stand in strong contrast to the homophobia and hatred so apparent in the public proclamations of other church and political leaders. A new chapter in this edition is devoted to these celebrities and other leaders.
Toward the end of the book is a "Survival Guide." It debunks the concept of guilt - that the parents "did something wrong" to make their child homosexual. This chapter presents arguments to overcome the shame and anger that usually erupt shortly after your child's announcement "Mom, Dad, I'm gay." You are led toward understanding and respect for your courageous child. And, if you are willing, you are led to publicly support not only your own child, but all who are subjected to marginalization due to their sexual or gender diversity.
Another new chapter in this edition, "Family Values," discusses gay and lesbian parenting. In "The Unreliability of Stereotypes," Bernstein discusses common stereotypes of policing, professional sports, and politics - where they are "...unmasked as, well, fairy tales."
As author Bernstein points out, "If you have a gay child, you are in the very best of company."

And that's the problem with this book, if it's not read within its parameters. Robert A. Bernstein, inspired to write his book after his teenage daughter came out as a lesbian, has some wonderful examples of parental support of gay, lesbian, bi and transgendered children, and support for parents is the reason for the book. And the history of the parental group (P-FLAG) of such children is intriguing and informative. Certainly, just as gay and lesbian children need the support of their families, so their parents need their unique support systems. Unfortunately, parents who reject not only their childrens' "alternate" lifestyles but their children in whole, aren't likely to read Bernstein's book simply because they probably don't want to understand what they disdain for whatever reason. The real-life parent-child relationships posited here are wonderful, and it would be truly magnificent if all parent-child relationships could be as they are here. Additionally, the children in this book are older, not necessarily pre- and teenagers, thus exluding the parents of these age-specific issues. Further, many of the children cited here are usually on track toward personal and professional fulfillment, quite likely partly because of their parents' support. Unfortunately, a great many others, if not more, have either been fully abandoned by their parents and family or, if they haven't, don't have what could qualify as anything nearing a healthy relationship with their parents. By its title, Bernstein's novel is directed toward parents, and certainly they need support just as much as their children. But to conclude that all gay and lesbian children have their families' unconditional love and support would be a tragic mistake. Unfortunately, all too many parents, presumably affected by the fears and prejudices of homophobia, will likely never accept their childrens' alternative choices and will never have a need for a book like this. But for those parents who do, Bernstein's work is a wonderful beginning toward understanding.
I just finishing reading this book. It was a good read but it is more or less for parents to read. Don't get me wrong, I learned some things: what parents go through, some things on society, history of p-flag, and such but it was not all that I hoped this book would be.
The author uses lots of high profile people as examples in this book so it was hard for someone like me to figure out just where I stand in life. As it will probably be for parents to place their child among these people who are exampled.

Most of the themes in this book are more adult rather than young teens to young adult.
It is a good attempt to give an overview of the "gay" world but it was not what I expected.

I would recomend this book for parents of gay children who want to learn more about the life style, history, p-flag, ect.
But not to learn about their children. The only way to do that is to ask them yourself.

Robert Bernstein's account of the development of P-Flag is emtional and inspiring. His book helps parents of gay children to learn about what gay means and how to accept their children. One flaw in this book is that all the examples he uses are men and women who have achieved high status as pretty much defined by society. Most of them are in"marriages", long-term relationships. All of this makes them look"just like"straight people. This position is only one of many taken by gay people and gay organizations. I wondered as I read this book where I fit in. None of those gay people were like me and I did not share many of their views. So where does that put gay people like myself in Bernstein's perspective? The book seems to whitewash much of the gay world. Bernstein does not seem to be in touch with the youth programs. As a volunteer in one of those programs, I can tesitfy that none of the teens in our project reflect the kind of gay people he described. That criticism aside, Bernstein's book attempts to fight bigotry and help straight parents climb the mountain, as one parent put it to dealing with their own issues and reaching out to their children in love.
Our son came out at age 18. When I worked up the courage, 4 months later, to attend my first PFLAG meeting (Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), the support of people who have already been there was wonderful. This was the first book they recommended, and it made a huge difference in my ability to bring order to my thoughts (and my conflicted heart), and not just to accept but to embrace my son's courage and honesty. The book deals compassionately with parents' fears regarding potential violence to our children and the tragedy of AIDS and social prejudice. More importantly, it inspires and en-courages parents not just to continue loving our children, which is the easy part, but to become comfortable as advocates for our fine children (who happen to be GLBT) to whatever degree makes sense in our lives. I highly recommend this book.
The courageous and levelheadedStraight Parents, Gay Children, Armistead Maupin comments, "shows the parents of gay children how to stop merely tolerating their kids and start being their heroes." Robert A. Bernstein made this essential move to "heroism" himself after his daughter Bobbi came out to him and her stepmother in the mid-1980s, when she was 19. Soon after, they attended a meeting of P-FLAG (Parents, Friends and Family of Lesbians and Gays) at a nearby church, and Bernstein realized that he had joined a small but powerful group of people unable to support the continued oppression of their gay loved ones. Bernstein brings together stirring quotes (even from such unlikely sources as the late Senator Barry Goldwater) and inspiring stories, like those of Jane Spahr, the first openly gay minister to be called as a pastor of the Presbyterian church (and later denied the post) and of Dr. Roscoe Thorne, a former lumberjack and weightlifter who spoke to a packed room at a military hearing set up to discharge his son from the navy despite his brilliant career as a "Top Gun" pilot. A useful book for therapists, clergy, and educators, and an essential resource for parents of gay and bisexual children.--Regina Marler

Straight Parents, Gay Children is Robert Bernstein's moving account of how he came to terms with his daughter's homosexuality and how the experience has enriched his life. Bernstein -- winner of the 1996 Award for Best Scholarship on the Subject of Intolerance, awarded by the Gustaves Myers Center for the Study of Human Rights in North America -- discusses the myths surrounding homosexuality, accepting the news, parents who speak out, public figures who have gay children, and more. Straight Parents, Gay Children is a survival guide for all parents who wish to help their gay children cope with the inevitable cruelty from which they cannot hide. This revised and updated edition includes an introduction by Robert MacNeil of MacNeil/Lehrer Productions and a foreword by Candace Gingrich, author of The Accidental Activist "Bob Bernstein has done a wonderful job. I wish his book could be required reading for the world."—Betty DeGeneres, spokesperson, Human Rights Campaign, National Coming Out Project "Bernstein's tone is personal, his advice is sound ... a valuable addition to the psychological self-help collections."—Charles Harmon, Booklist "A succinct, moving book about parents who have defied the social stigma of homosexuality to publicly support their gay children."—Washington Blade

("Keep your promises, Keep clean, Keep going")

(Must Read)

(A sheer delight!)

(A New Voice)
WHEN I HEAR ABOUT A BOOK from three or four different sources within a short time span, I generally surrender to the Universe, obtain a copy and push it onto the "on-deck circle" of my reading list--cutting ahead of dozens of other books, which are no doubt outraged at the brash line-jumper. Such was the case with Tom Spanbauer's The Man Who Fell in Love with the Moon and the queue-hopping proved well justified by the quality of this novel.

Studded with stories, oozing with style and rife with sagacity and humor (from wry smiles to sorry-I-woke-you-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night-honey belly-laughs) this book announces itself as a masterpiece from the first page and doesn't relent until the last.

The narrator, Shed, a half Native American/half white youth, is raised within the confines of a whorehouse in the old West town of Excellent, Idaho at the turn of the twentieth century. Ida Richilieu, the brothel's madam, takes the boy in after his mother is murdered and houses him Out-in-the-Shed (thus, his name), where he also takes on male customers wanting a little bit of his innocence and a whole lot of his "endowment."

Shed does have a real name, Duivichi-un-Dua, and when he comes of age he sets off to find its Shoshone meaning, to learn more of his mother and her people, and discover the identity of his father. By and by, through twists and turns, Shed does uncover these truths about himself, and along the way meets Dellwood Barker, the green-eyed eponymous moon-lover who possesses esoteric knowledge of lunar effects on humanity. Dellwood is also well-versed in tantric sexual techniques, which he employs with both men and women.

The fluid sexuality of some of Spanbauer's main characters, and their (and his authorial) sensibilities engender in me a warm feeling of literary and personal affinity with Mr. Spanbauer. We share concerns and his methods for parsing them often mirror my own, though there are profound differences as well.

The Man Who Fell in Love with the Moon climbed into my Top Ten Novels list as easily as a frightened child enters its parents' bed. (See my Top Ten List below). I'm loath to explicate too much of the marvelous plot of this novel, as I am of a mind that water tastes best at the source. Go to this book with an open mind and heart, and be prepared for sadness and splendor, and one helluva joyous, bumpy ride. See also Sanity's Bane

My Top Ten Novels of All Time (or at least the ones I've managed to read so far, in a loosely attempted ranking system--you shouldn't hold me to any of this I could change my mind in an hour or two).

1. The Tin Drum, Günter Grass
2. Midnight's Children, Salman Rushdie
3. Sometimes a Great Notion, Ken Kesey
4. Geek Love, Katherine Dunn
5. Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison
6. Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoyevsky
7. The Man Who Fell in Love with the Moon, Tom Spanbauer
8. On the Road, Jack Kerouac

I have to start by saying "Wow!" I think I actually read EVERY word in this book. I didn't want to let anything get past me.

This is the most memorable work I've read in my 31 years. The characters were vivid and deep, and their feelings - I felt I was looking into the heart of humanity. The characters - especially Shed - were open and descriptive of their feelings and intentions; and those feelings seemed true and real to me.

I could find myself in so many of the characters. In Shed, I empathized with his need to resolve his great mystery - even though he didn't know what the mystery was. In Delwood, I saw echoes of the kindness and generosity I aim to give and receive in my own life. In Ida, I understood the need to maintain consistency in an effort to succeed (or to soothe - which is it?), and the fight for what's "fair".

Mr. Spanbauer has gone far beyond a piece of entertainment, and has created a piece of literature. Moon ... deserves to be savored, contemplated, discussed and analyzed. It's been a while since a piece has motivated me to do any creative writing; Moon did that for me. You'd better believe that if I had the opportunity, I'd be right there at Mr. Spanbauer's kitchen table where he has mentored people like Chuck Palahniuk.

I won't attempt to go into plot summaries and themes - just buy the book and read it.

If you are Native American, African American, or GLBT you must read this book. Following the lives and tribulations of a [...] child raised in a whorehouse we get exposed to the turn of the century old west in Excellent, Idaho. A fascinating read that will question and make you reflect on everyone of your core values.
The young narrator, Shed is a bisexual half Indian boy who lives Out-In-The-Shed (hence his name) of a whorehouse owned by Ida Richilieu in Excellent, a very small town in Idaho at the beginning of the twentieth century. Out in the shed he is much in demand as he provides relief for many male customers while he earns his keep doing chores for Ida. There are many uncertainties about Shed's origins and parents, se he sets off to find his true self, and his real name. On his way he meets Dellwood Barker and makes eventually contact with some Indians; he thinks he finds some answers, but there is more to come. When Shed returns to Excellent all goes well for a time back at Ida Richilieu's Indian Head Hotel, with Ida, Shed, Dellwood and Alma Hatch forming their own unique family, strength against the troublesome Mormons who are taking over the town, until disaster strikes and everything falls apart.

There are plenty of interesting and idiosyncratic characters populating the tale, and the colourful story moves from drama to tragedy, from harrowing events to very tender moments, all with plenty of humour. However the real pleasure is to be found in the narration itself, Shed's way of expressing himself is delightful: "what my ears heard was me yelling the loudest I'd heard my mouth yell . . .", "I just let my feet and legs go . . .they took me out into the clearing . . ." are typical of Shed's logical thinking, and his endearing way of expressing himself.

It is a very beautiful story, and very moving. Shed is an appealing character who loved those close to him, and especially Dellwood, the only man he ever truly loved. It is a story about prejudice and dreams, about survival against adversity. The final pages are particularly heart rending as everything about Shed's life disintegrates; yet there is also hope and a future.

The narrator, Shed, comes through as an intriguing, new story-telling voice. The reader is treated to a group of unique characters who oppose the bigotry of thinkers on the religious right. Fascinating stuff.

Set against the harsh reality of an unforgiving landscape and culture, The Man Who Fell in Love with the Moon provides a vision of the Old West unlike anything seen before. The narrator, Shed, is one of the most memorable characters in contemporary fiction: a half-Indian bisexual boy who lives and works at the Indian Head Hotel in the tiny town of Excellent, Idaho. It's the turn of the century, and the hotel carries on a prosperous business as the town's brothel. The eccentric characters working in the hotel provide Shed with a surrogate family, yet he finds in himself a growing need to learn the meaning of his Indian name, Duivichi-un-Dua, given to him by his mother, who was murdered when he was twelve. Setting off alone across the haunting plains, Shed goes in search of an identity among his true people, encountering a rich pageant of extraordinary characters along the way. Although he learns a great deal about the mysteries and traditions of his Indian heritage, it is not until Shed returns to Excellent and witnesses a series of brutal tragedies that he attains the wisdom that infuses this exceptional and captivating book.

The High Queen's Vow, Book IV in the Mystic Women of The Realm series, picks up right where Book III left off. Leaving Sansthera, The High Queen begrudgingly accepts the battles they face throughout their journey so she can complete one of her sacred vows - to return the Elves to The Realm. Finding clues she needs along their journey, The High Queen and her forces enter into The Wastelands, where they discover The First High Queen's chamber of mystic powers long lost to The Realm. But they also come face-to-face with The High Queen's well-loathed past, as well as rescue a piece of The High Queen's future. The quest to restore the long-lost Elves to The Realm is a goal The High Queen is determined to win, but the journey to El'fs'nd'lle offers her challenges beyond any other she has faced. Yet even as she completes this most sacred vow, and even after the enormous toll of their battles during the journey, she soon learns that her greatest challenge is just awakening and the ensuing Battle of the Eons against the Wizard of the Ravens will place all their lives in the balance. (Surrender's Edge)

(SIZZLIN' HOT READ)
Since they met in college Geoffrey Kirk has been in love with his best friend Nash. Geoffrey has watched loved Nash since the beginning. Wishing things were different but not willing to lose Nash's friendship. Falling for Sunny, his assistant, just felt natural and helped him move on. Catching Nash with Sunny was quite a shock. What will he do with his chance for happiness gone? Then Sunny and Nash let him know that he has not lost anything and that there is still a lot to gain.

Surrender's Edge was an interesting story. The characters were all looking out for each other and their futures. The feelings between everyone was of a natural and good feel. It did not flow as well as other books I have read by Pepper Espinoza but was still a likeable read.

AWESOME!!! NOT LONG ENOUGH!! THE STORY FLOWED SUCH A WAY THERE REALLY WHERE THERE WAS NO DOWN TIME. MAKES YOU WANT TO SAY, "WHENS THE NEXT ONE COMING OUT".
Geoffrey Kirk has been in love with his best friend, Nash, since almost the moment they met. Convinced that Nash would never return his feelings, he forced himself to move on, and fell for his assistant, Sunny. Despite his strong feelings, he never acted on them, and when he discovered Sunny and Nash together, he thought he lost his chance for happiness forever. Until Sunny and Nash make it clear that he hasn't lost anything...and he still has a great deal to gain...

(Good middle of story volume)

(Loved the 2nd book in the series)

Of the subtitles for each of the volumes of Ai no Kusabi so far released in English, "Nightmare" seems to have been chosen most appropriately. This book is one long bad dream of the suffering and near insanity of the characters forced to be involved.

This volume chronicles the specific events of the three years that Riki spent as Iason Mink's "pet" that were previously unknown to readers of the original release of the novel or viewers of the anime OVA. Rieko Yoshihara added most of the contents of this particular volume for the five volume re-release of the story in 2004, which is probably why a number of reports about the book claim it has been "altered" from the original manuscript. This is perfectly all right with me, as I think this particular part of the story is not only very engaging, but also reveals details about societal secrets and character depth that might have otherwise been left unknown.

And if anyone is unhappy with there being "differences" between this release and the original one-volume printing of the novel in Japan so many years ago, I would offer up the fanservice to be found in this book as compensation. Indeed, if Yoshihara-sensei did not add this piece of the story we would never have been able to experience the graphic details of Iason and Riki's early physical encounters. The scenes are grotesque, graphic to the point of almost being psychologically damaging to the reader who is forced to bear witnes
