(Lesbian Erotica meets Sex in the City !!)

(I was lonely...)

(She Has Done It Again!)

(Radclyffe should stick with this type of book)

(Radclyffe is Back!!!)
Philadelphia to be exact - in this case, the city of Sisterly love!

Oh My! what an erotic book! and yet it had just the sweetest love story!

From hospital corridors to not so private sex near the softball diamond this book has it all!

Thirty year old Bren is attractive, thoughtful and introspective, she has a fulfilling job directing the rare books department at Temple University but has never been in a long term relationship.

Twenty-seven year old Candace, a model pretty blonde, has a high stakes job as a self-employed commodities trader who lives and loves in the moment.

Thirty-five year old Liz Ramsey is a medical attorney who is lovely inside and out.

The three met during their college days and have been fast friends since. Totally supportive of each other but that doesn't mean that they know all each other's secrets.

And gorgeous thirty-one year old orthopedic surgeon Dr. Reilly Danvers is a joy to read.

As a bonus for her readers the author has nice appearances from characters from her excellent novel 'Love's Tender Warriors'.

If you liked this novel you will also enjoy these tiles by the author -

Tomorrow's Promise
When Dreams Tremble
Passion's Bright Fury
Turn Back Time
Love's Melody Lost
Love's Masquerade

Once it ended. Friends thought I had disappeared for a day when I started reading this book and made other plans! Seriously though, great book, intriguing characters, sex-surprisingly not all that much, but enough to really keep you interested. Anyway, Radclyffe proves that whether weilding a pen or a scalpel, she can cut to the heart of a her readers and her characters alike.
This is another one of Radclyffe's that I couldn't put down. Excellent story. Excellent characters. Great portray of true genuine friendship. It was good that there were three different storylines going on all at the same time, yet all linked together.

I really liked Bren. The soft spoken friend (well it appeared that way at first). I hope there is a sequel to this one. I would like to read more about her character in the future.

As usual I am never disappointed when it comes to Radyclyffe.

Radclyffe does her best work when she writes her stand alone novels. Unlike her series, which sell books, but have gotten rather mundane, this book has a fresh concept. It's not often that a lesbian novel features a central figure who is pregnant and alone. While Liz and Reilly are the major focus of the book, the most interesting character might be Bren, who has a couple of secrets she's kept from her best friends. Any of these characters could have carried the book and that makes them stronger than is usually seen in this genre. This is what Radclyffe excels at when she writes her stand alone novels. She should stick with it. The Lonely Hearts Club is a good read.
I have to preface this review by saying I'm a HUGE fan of Radclyffe's books. I think I have only rated two of her books 4, while all the others have been 5. Her last several books have really teetered on the edge for me, but this one is a strong comeback for my favorite author.

Here, much in the style of Saxon Bennett, the author delivers a variety of different women in a single plot. Even with the large cast, all are well-developed and their individual stories are tied together with skill and artistry.

I won't take the time to rehash to story here because the back cover text is pretty descriptive. However, I will tell you just how happy I am to finally see a Radclyffe book that is worthy of her talent and capability. This one is a don't-miss, absolutely.

Take three friends, add two ex-lovers and several new ones, then mix with more secrets than any of them know--and the result is a recipe for explosive rivalries and incendiary romance.

Candace Lory is a high-power commodities trader and swinging playgirl who meets her match when she hooks up with older, butch corporate attorney, Parker Jones, an associate of Candace's ex-lover, Liz Ramsey. Parker is as much a swinger as Candace but try as they might, the two can't seem to stop repeating their one night stand.
Brenda Beal writes best-selling erotic romance novels under a pseudonym even her closest friends don't know. One of the only members of "the group" who didn't sleep with every available woman during college, Bren would rather fantasize about a perfect lover than have one, especially if she's obedient and willing to do anything Bren orders. A surprise birthday "trip" and a dashing, dark-eyed submissive transforms Bren's fantasies into reality and her dark secrets into delicious pleasures.

Attorney Liz Ramsey thought she had everything--a devoted partner, a challenging job, and plans for a family in the making. Unfortunately, as soon as the test strip turned blue, her lover Julia got cold feet and left her. Now pregnant, Liz bumps into, literally, young surgeon Riley Danvers during an appointment at the University Hospital. Conversation leads to coffee, but despite Riley's charms, courtship is not part of Liz's plans.

(The power of a kiss)

(worth it)

(Unusual, realistic and delightful romance)

(Just What I Needed)

(Delightfully good-natured and humorous - 3.5 stars)
Suppose you were walking down the hall at work one day, minding your own business, when suddenly someone pulled you into a closet and gave you the greatest kiss you ever had in your life? And it was a woman? And you were straight? You thought. If you found yourself reacting in a way you had never felt before, you might have to follow those uncommon emotions to rethink your whole life.

Joslyn Simonini is a "turnaround specialist." She is hired by companies to tell them how to improve their operations and profits, which often causes employees to dislike her since they fear their jobs will be the first thing she will want to cut. Joslyn understands their feelings, but she's not there to get involved with their concerns. She's there to do an efficient job and move on, which doesn't require an emotional connection with the people she's dealing with. Until that kiss. That incident begins the unraveling of Joslyn's world as she has known it. She finds herself working with Raven Malvolio the chief financial officer of the family owned business she's been hired to improve. A working relationship quickly grows into a friendship. Joslyn hadn't found previous relationships with men particularly dynamic, but her contact with Raven has her questioning not only her sexuality, but the ethics of her job. She finally feels she has met someone she can let tap into the emotions she has kept hidden for so long, but she has also discovered a secret about the company that could destroy everything. Joslyn and Raven will have to answer some difficult questions about the priorities of family obligations and professional ethics to determine if a relationship is possible between them.

Galli does a good job of building her story and creating her characters. Joslyn starts out as a very repressed character who gradually opens up as events occur. The opening scene of the kiss starts the book off with a nice comic touch without becoming slapstick and then plays nicely into Joslyn's overly developed sense of professionalism when she first meets Raven and suspects her of being the office letch. Incidents occur at a nice pace in the book and give the reader a chance to get to know the characters and who they are. This is Galli's third novel and she has developed the ability to write a good solid story with appealing characters that provides a few hours of pleasant reading. Romance lovers will enjoy this book.

I ran across this book by chance while doing a generalized search on Amazon, and asked for it as a gift. I admit, I've been burned by bad books too many times recently to want to spend my own money on an author I'd never heard of before.
This book definitely had me hooked; I read it every spare moment. Great characters, great drama, great romance, and obviously in-depth research.

The only reason this has a 4 instead of a 5 is for nitpicky reasons. This is an author with a lot of awesome potential; I kept feeling that if the book had only passed through the hands of a dedicated editor, it could have been perfect. And that was mostly just for simple things like typos or grammar mistakes.

Anyway, this is a smart and sexy read that I would definitely recommend.

This was the first Lynn Galli book I've read, but it will certainly not be my last. Her writing style is refreshing and engaging. The characters are enjoyable and fleshed out. The characters were easy to like and the situations were true to life. The few sex scenes were written in a new manner that really added to the character development. The entire book was imbued with a gentle humor, despite the serious title. I highly recommend it.
As a big fan of Galli's, I would definitely have to say she did a superb job with this third novel. I love her sense of humor and the characters are amazingly well developed. This is definitely a must read in my opinion. Everything I was looking for in a romance.
I was delighted with this book, and consequently devoured it. This author continues to show promise, employing a fairly unique and intelligent voice that doesn't shy away from playing around with the English language. She combines this with a flair for characterization that draws you into her stories, and helps to overlook the books' weaknesses. There are flaws. This book was lightly peppered with malappropisms, and had one or two other confusing linguistic moments. But this novel was much stronger than her previous book (Imagining Reality) and I look forward to what this author will produce in the future.

Part of the strength was that this book was better focused and had a clearer narrative line. This could be because there are no shifting view points: we are with Jos' perspective the whole way through, an ostensibly straight, successful woman who has an amusing encounter based on mistaken identity early on that colors her perceptions the rest of the book, most particularly those of Raven, the woman she is irresistibly drawn to. They have similar interests and hobbies (cars, Italian cooking, the Seattle Storm, horse-back riding), both have strong family ties, and they strike up a heated friendship immediately.

This book is just fun. It seemed to be filled with a buoyant good will that carried the story along effortlessly. Jos is an interesting character with a distinct perspective on things. She also acts like an adult, which is refreshing. The conflict is reasonable, and the characters don't dwell on it endlessly. There is no wallowing. The character relationships are also realistic, and their motivations are well-supported and consistent.

The book is probably stronger for the fact that these are all-new characters created outside of the circle of friend introduced in Lynn's first two books, but Elise and Austy do make a cameo. I'd really give it 3-1/2 stars, but still display it as 4 because it was in Seattle, involved the Storm (even throwing in the dreaded possible "move to Oklahoma controversy). Good times.

As a turnaround specialist, Joslyn Simonini spends her days analyzing corporate profit margins and trying to keep her likeness from being turned into a voodoo doll by company employees. If she does her job well, they often lose theirs. So, it comes as a surprise when she finds herself being kissed one day at work. She's even more shocked to find out that the mysterious kissing bandit is a woman.

Not in the habit of kissing women, Joslyn tries to brush off the unintentional mistake. But before long, she's forced to examine the rush of emotions that accompanied the kiss, especially when she meets Raven Malvolio. At first, she needs Raven to complete her analysis, but she doesn't expect to need the friendship that Raven offers. When those friendly feelings escalate to something more, Joslyn's confusion and underdeveloped emotional range might ruin her chance at a relationship that could surpass even her dreams.

Uncommon Emotionstakes a look at how someone can think she's happy with her life only to be surprised by the passion she's yet to feel.

(Charming and funny book)

(Anything Goes --- and does)

(Charming from start to finish!)

(love the man, do not love this book)

(A pretty picture but what's beneath the surface?)
I didn't expect much from this book - who writes his life story when he's just pushing 40? But this is a fun and funny, stream of consciousness autobiography, roped into some order by his coauthor sister, complete with humorous/explanatory footnoted asides (well, his sister IS an English professor) and lots of great photos of wee John from childhood on up and his beloved and wacky extended family and friends, productions he was in, up to present day Captain Jack on 'Torchwood.' It's written for a British audience, but anyone on either side of the Atlantic would enjoy it. I laughed out loud at several of his stories of various theatrical escapades and disasters. Not surprisingly, the story is just like the actor seems - what you see is what you get - funny, exuberant, charming, a bit naughty, and full of life.
I got turned on to John Barrowman last year after discovering Torchwood. I find it refreshing, in this day and age, to come across someone who is living his life to the fullest, no apologies, no regrets.

The book gives us a brief overview of what seems to be, his very charmed life. I am sure he has had much more grief and frustration in his 40 years then the book lets on, but maybe that's left for another book.
(And according to Carole, they are in talks to do another one)

He gives us tales of his growing up in Scotland and later spending his formative years in Illinois, becoming an American boy. He returns to the UK for schooling and gets his big break, starring in a big West End show.
Charmed indeed.

The love he has for his family and partner is evident throughout the book. I had the pleasure of talking to his mother and father at a booksigning in Milwaukee and they were absolutely charming people who are so proud of their son.

It's a really quick read and you will find yourself laughing out loud at some of his stories and sniffling at others. I enjoyed the audio version too as it's kind of fun listening to him talk about his life, almost like you're sitting there and he's talking to you personally.
Plenty of great pictures too.
So, if you're just discovering John or just want to know more about him, it's a great place to start.

(I have to admit though, I hate the cover photo.)

I actually listened to the audiobook version, read very entertainingly by John Barrowman himself. I can't say whether the book benefits from a slight abridgment, but I suspect it benefits quite a bit by the addition of John Barrowman's always charming delivery. I smiled all the way through, laughed aloud in places, and found myself touched in more.
Besides the look into his life thus far (his coming out tale, for example), the book serves as good introduction to the hard work a professional entertainer has in store for themselves before reaching success (or at least steady employment!) Talent - something John has in almost unfair spades - and looks, another thing John can't truthfully deny he possesses - are not enough. He details the work he put in, the learning he had to do (and his gratitude to his many teachers), as well as his trials (amusing to hear how he didn't get a part he wasn't considered 'gay enough' for) on the long yet interesting road to Doctor Who, Torchwood and becoming a National Treasure.
There's also a smattering of fun "behind the scenes" Doctor Who and Torchwood stories for fans like me!

When I first read others' comments about this book (as I waited...and waited...and waited for Amazon to send it) I just figured the negative ones came from a bunch of John and/or gay haters. I now have to concede that they had some valid points. At times, I wonder if the John I've seen in interviews is the same guy as the one in this book! I'd already listened to the audio version, and there were times when he came off as a bit of a d*** in it, but hearing the anecdotes in his own voice softened the bite. In print, he does not come off well. He comes off as a brat. Where's the guy who helped those two ladies after one of his shows? (A cute anecdote about some fans who were stranded after a thief nabbed a purse.) Where's the guy who got so irritated at the protesters at London Pride that he told the crowd that "THEY'RE the ones who need saving, not me"? THAT man has more passion and integrity than the one I've seen so far here. Save your money - watch and buy some Torchwood and Who instead. And watch his interview from Heaven and Earth. I think you'll see Another - and better - Side of John.
All that said, some of the photos are absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!!!

I am a huge fan of Torchwood and John Barrowman (discovered both recently)and was waiting eagerly for this book to learn more about him and his life. But I'm sorry to say this highly anticipated book was a disappointment -- the incidents portrayed are so arbitrary and without depth. I get no sense of his deepest feelings, fears, dreams. Has his whole life been wonderful, or did he and sister just decide to stress the positive and funny things? What was it like when he first came to NY? How did he survive the bad times or were they all good? What about some REAL gossip? What's the real scoop on the Will and Grace audition?

I remember reading Tennessee Williams' autobiography and Christopher Isherwood's Christopher and His Kind and wondering how such great writers could write such juvenile autobiographies, but at least it showed them flaws and all including a lot of sordid sexual encounters.

This is probably written mostly by Carole Barrowman and is too slick and surface like a magazine article. Yes there are a some well-adjusted positive totally happy people in the world (none of them live in NYC I suspect) I'm sure he's a good natured "bloke" but no one's life is that smooth. It makes for superficial reading. The pictures are great!

Bess in the Big Apple

From his Glaswegian childhood and American adolescence to his starring role in theDoctor WhospinoffTorchwood, this memoir traces the life and career of actor John Barrowman. John made a name for himself with remarkable West End achievements, including an Olivier Award nomination and success in the moviesThe ProducersandDe-Lovely.Television success was also assured whenTorchwoodwon a Best Drama BAFTA. John also lays bare his personal life: his emigration as a child, coming out to his family, turning down a job at Disney, and his civil partnership with long-term partner Scott Gill. Revelatory and insightful, told with real heart and characteristic Barrowman charm, this is a wonderful tale of how one boy achieved his dreams.

(In the Eye of the Storm by Gene Robinson)

(An Amazing Man!)

(Great guy, not-so-great book)

(The Eye of the Storm is for all to read!)

(A wonderful Book!)
A wonderful book by a very godly person. It was inspirational all the way through.
We read the book "Going to Heaven: The Life and Election of Bishop Gene Robinson" written about him and were impressed by this man. Reading the book BY him, makes you wonder why we didn't hear about him sooner.

His life and his values are something for anyone to try to live up to, straight of LGBT!

In every interview I've ever heard, and in the documentary, "For the Bible Tells Me So," Gene Robinson comes across as a grounded, prayerful, thoughtful man. I appreciate his courage and, as an Episcopal priest, continue to rejoice at his 2003 consecration. I had looked forward to reading his book.

Yet I've found it disappointing and haven't been able to finish it. I think this is because, in the words of the book's subtitle, Gene has been "swept to the center." Probably this is an inevitable destination for the first openly gay bishop of our time, but I longed to hear a more radical theology, one that takes the experience of the sexually marginalized as a starting point for a strong, yet loving critique of Christianity.

What I found instead was a nice, moderate theology that makes this a great book for a teen just coming out to give her or his parents, but breaks little new ground.

Gene Robinson's book is a must read for people of all circumstances. He compassionately tells his story and that of his Biblical understanding with regard to the love Jesus came to tell of and asked us to live out.
Before you draw conclusions or are held back by preconceived notions about this subject, please read the "human" side of this devout, deeply Christian man.
Robinson lives out his faith and accepts the challenges he has been given as a child of God. This is a call for us to make our way into a more compassionate response to this and others who seek to live out their faith as God has called them and us to do.

Bishop Robinson has written a book that is filled with faith, hope and joy! The day I recieved it, I read it cover to cover. I reread it 3 times before I lent it to my Mom.
He covers the subject of homophobic behavior by the Anglican Church and other's by reminding us, of Jesus's constant reminders "to love one another and to forgive each other, not 7x7,but 70x7".

Gene Robinson is bishop of the tiny, rural Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire, but he's at the center of a storm of controversy raging in the Episcopal Church and throughout the worldwide Anglican Communion involving homosexuality, the priesthood, and the future of the Communion. This book offers an honest, thoughtful portrait of Robinson, the faith that has informed his life, and the controversy that continues to rock his Church.

(Explicit content doesn't detract from great story ... recommended!)

(Great read....a new favorite!)
Pat St. James is a 23 year old gay man, a police rookie fresh out of the academy, who lucks into a special assignment going undercover to catch a serial killer going after young gay men. Closeted at work, and under the supervision of a rather homophobic senior officer, Pat and another closeted gay cop, Hank, hit gay cruising spots and bars, wearing microphones through which they can alert their backups if needed. When it is revealed that this is much more than the work of one deranged sicko, but an organized attempt to kill as many gays as possible, Pat and Hank become the centerpiece of a joint police and FBI investigation that puts them in personal danger every night as they try to "bait" the killers, while at the same time trying to hide the fact that they are not exactly rookies at trying to pick up guys in a gay bar. At the same time, Pat is juggling the attentions of a long time but newly-single friend who is courting him, calls from a hot guy he met at a bar before all this went down, and obvious flirting from his patrol partner Hank, who is clearly attracted to him as well.

This is the first novel by author Simpson, whose bio reveals that his knowledge of police procedure and federal agents come from past experience. Would have liked to see the two main characters fleshed out a bit more, in terms of their past and families, which I think he could have done a good job with, based on how he developed the characters in this relatively short novel. There are sexually explicit passages, justifying the categorization as an "erotic novel," but those passages actually add to the development of the character and aren't the slightest excessive in context of the storyline. An impressive debut, and I am looking forward to the follow-up novel (which his website says is "Task Force," out next month). Four stars out of five.

This book was fantastic! I couldn't put it down once I started reading it...the author gave a lot of attention to writing a thrilling, suspenseful and erotic story. The characters, dialogue and situations were very engaging and well-written. This book stands well on its own. I've read that there will be a sequel and I am definitely looking forward to reading more about these great characters. I highly recommend this book!
A serial killer is targeting gay men, preying on them in popular bars and parks. Assigned to the case, rookie cop Pat St. James feels all too close to the victims. He's gay and firmly in the closet at work. The fact that he's sent undercover as a gay man is a stroke of irony. Pat and his fellow cop, Hank, are hanging out in bars, trying to get a lead on the killer. At the same time, Pat's looking for Mr. Right - juggling three men, hoping he'll find the perfect match for himself. He picked up Bill at a bar, Dean's a longtime friend . and in yet another ironic twist, his partner, Hank, is also gay and on the list of possible beaus. As the killer continues to rampage, strangling and raping his victims, Pat has to focus on his work and hope that his personal life survives the stress. But when his hopes and dreams for happiness overlap with the investigation, Pat may be headed for big trouble.
A Hot Gay Crime&Hot Gay Love! It is the first month on the job for police rooky, Patrick St. James, who is both gay and closeted, and things aren't going well for him at all. Patrick has been assigned to a homophobic field training officer, and has to struggle harder than ever to keep his sexual-orientation secret, while still finding time for romance and a little lovemaking in his personal life. Things get worse when a serial killer begins stalking gay men, and Patrick finds himself involved in the investigation. Among the apparent suspects are members of a far right-wing religious cult from the mid-west. What Patrick doesn't know is that the closer he gets to the killer, the more danger he is in. At the same time, Patrick meets and falls in love with--Dean, a young good-looking banker, and the man Patrick wants to spend the rest of his life with. But, how long will that life be? Ahead of Patrick lies a deadly confrontation with the killer, whose deadly hand will seek Patrick out explosively from beyond the grave!

(Hope there is a sequel)

(A fun read)

(Condor One by John Simpson)

(Brilliant story!!)
This was a really good story. Plenty of suspense to go with the sex. Definately hope there is a second book to answer the questions that still remain.
An America with a gay President and a woman Vice President and why not! That in itself is already a fun read as David, the gay President, fights for what is right and tries to rectify 12 years of grievous mistakes under the Republican rule. In the process he finds a lover in his personal bodyguard, escapes numerous assassinations during his first few days in office, flies to the Middle East to stage peace talk and let's not forget Buckingham Palace to visit his cousin, King William. Right, King William. I feel the writer has a fun time writing this as he creates a political world to his own liking in 2012. So much so that certain parts become too wordy as he voices out his own personal political views. Also, romance is lacking in this story, coming across stilted at times. Or maybe this is not meant to be a M/M romance. Still a pretty entertaining read, with suspenseful moments.
Condor One is a fantapolitic novel. David Windsor, multimillionaire business man and far cousin of William V, the King of England, is now a democratic candidate to be the new USA President. His campaign goes very well since the american citizens are tired of years of Republican government, and he is the most probable winner. So his adversary lets drop the bomb during the last official speech: David is gay. Unexpected to everyone, David doesn't deny the news and au contraire, he embraces this new turn of his campaign, gaining even more consent from people who appreciate him for his honesty.

So David becomes the new President and his life takes an accelerate path; in all the whirlwind, his only stepping stone is Shane, his bodyguard. Shane is a late twenty very handsome man, with the look of an American movie star and the character of Gandhi. He is always quite and sure, always ready for "his" President. At first David is a bit of a playboy, he plays with Shane but he is not against the idea to "play" also with some other fine looking men who happen to be near him, even if he has never had the chance to conclude something, since the official duty and the lack of intimacy don't allow him any free time. But when the events turn mad and all around him seems to crash, again and again Shane will be his only safe shelter.

The story has a very strong suspense plot, with a lot of action. It's almost like reading a Tom Clancy gay novel. What I find really interesting is David's character, a man that should be upright and detached, and instead, when he can, he is always ogling the fine ass of his bodyguard. But despite the weakness of his body, his mind is very strong and ready and when he needs to take an important decision, he is up to the task. And even if he tries to be fair with everyone, he is also willing to use the iron hand with necessary, and sometime I understand that he is also gladly to do that, when the justice falls upon someone he doesn't like: even if David is a good man, he has a naughty and devil side that sometime surfaces.

Shane maybe is too perfect. He is handsome, clever, generous... I never read about some faults about him. Maybe to be the man of a so important figure, he needs to be so, but well, I would like for him to be a little more angry, above all when David lets his weak body to lead him astray.

The erotic part of the novel are pretty strong, graphic and detailed... these are two men who are making sex (before love) and it's very clear: not chocolate and flowers for them, they go directly to the core of the matter.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were interesting, the story and details were fascinating, and there was plenty of suspense throughout to make it a real page turner. I highly recommend this book as well as all other work by this author!
The Democratic Party's 2012 nominee for President, David J. Windsor, and America are equally shocked when he is outted by his opponent just six weeks before the Fall election. Following his heart, David chooses honesty over media spin and overcomes the obstacle to win the election. Despite that success, dark forces around the world begin to plot against him, and President Windsor's security is a must. Inside and outside the White House, Secret Service Agent Shane Thompson becomes the President's shadow, always present and silent, ever vigilant. As the two men grow closer, Shane does far more than just his duty - he becomes as vital to David's happiness as he is to the President's health. Together they realize they must find a way to balance the President and the Agent against David and Shane before stress and responsibility tear them apart.
