The plot is too convoluted for its own good and it doesn't build to much of a climax, but Walken is always fun to watch.』
(The Prophecy) 『Tommy Dagget wanted to be a priest, but lost his faith and became a cop instead. He once wrote a learned treatise on angels, so when a physiologically abnormal individual is found murdered and a copy of Dagget's study discovered on the crime scene, he's assigned to investigate. What he uncovers is a literal war of angels. These supernatural creatures, led by the vicious Gabriel, are a tormented, murderous lot, warped by God's rejection in favor of "talking monkeys" called the human race. The best interpretation of the fallen angel himself without being over the top Viggo's potrayal of the devil is seductive, magnetic, commanding and unique. A very unique and impressive movie.』
(Walken is the Funniest) 『Interesting concept that perpetuates Gabriel's bad rap. A funny movie, and the Native American Shamanism mixed with Judeo-Christian beliefs are very interesting. Walken makes good movies period.』
(Walken Makes This Preposterous Story Fun) 『This was a different kind of horror movie with bad angels as the main attraction. Actually, the main attraction is Christopher Walken in the role of "Gabriel." He's extremely entertaining with his mixture of humor and evil. He eveen admonishes people for using profanity!
Of course, the theology in this movie is so preposterous it's hilarious. At least in the end, the hero of the film correctly identifies the warring angel as one doing so strictly out of jealously for God. That's Bibically accurate, but the rest of the theology here is totally bogus. A lot of people probably don't know there are such things as bad angels, so that part is true.
Theology-aside, this is a very entertaining movie. The language is tame but beware there are a couple of very gory scenes that might offend. The special- effects are good. Walken is a "trip" to watch and Virginia Madsen looks beautiful.』
(Worst movie I've seen in a long time) 『You have to be kidding me, the acting, plot, everything about this so called movie made me ill. This is probably the worst movie I've ever seen! I can't believe that people got paid from this trash. What a mess.』 『Big-screen favorite Christopher Walken (PULP FICTION, BATMAN RETURNS) heads an all-star cast in this chilling and suspenseful thriller! At the scene of a bizarre murder, L.A. homicide detective Thomas Dagget (Elias Koteas -- EXOTICA) discovers a lethal heavenly prophecy now being fulfilled on earth! Yet in his fight to stop the forces of evil -- led by the powerful angel Gabriel (Walken) -- Dagget finds an unlikely ally in an elementary school teacher (Virginia Madsen -- CANDYMAN). Together they race against time and terror to save the world as we know it! Also starring Eric Stoltz (PULP FICTION) -- critics everywhere praised THE PROPHECY for its high-powered thrills and knockout performances -- don't miss it!』 『A prime candidate for cult status (it even spawned a sequel), this apocalyptic 1995 horror flick belongs in the darker corners of the comedy-horror sub-genre that includesBuffy the Vampire Slayer,Mimic, andPhantoms--and like those movies it's a mixed blessing with some highlights worth savoring.
This one's got Christopher Walken in its favor, starring as the Angel Gabriel, who's really mad at God for allowing humans into heaven (because, you see, humans have souls and angels don't, and God plays favorites). Gabriel takes his anger out on the human race, coming to Earth to capture the soul of the most evil human alive in an effort to defeat the "good" angels that remain in God's good graces. One of the good angels is played by Eric Stoltz, who captures the evil soul before Walken does and transfers it into the body of a little girl. Are you with us so far? Don't worry if you're not, because writer-director Gregory Widen filledThe Prophecywith so many wild ideas that he didn't bother to connect them to a coherent plot.
Add Viggo Mortensen as the devil and Elias Koteas as a priest-turned detective who's tracking Walken and it's clear that Widen was attempting something ambitious here. He nearly succeeded, sinceThe Prophecyjumpstarts its heaven-and-hell rivalry with enough action, humor, and intelligence to make the movie sufficiently entertaining. It was enjoyable enough to entice Walken back for the sequel, so if you're into this kind of thing, this one's a keeper.--Jeff Shannon』

(The Truth is Out There) 『What needs to be said? It's an X-Files season, arguably the best one. As a Fileophile (I hope I get credit for that word) I started watching the series with this season and got hooked. It preceded the first movie and by that time was given credit for being one of the best (if not THE best) sci-fi series of all times. What's more, try watching them all in order, if for no other reason than a daily dose of Scully!』
(The X Files achieved it before Fringe) 『"Fringe" fans, The X files started it on FOX.
If you have not seen the X Files, Check out the series. David Duchovny added so much to his character he seems like a real guy. Mitch Pileggi's performance at portraying the cool, level minded Skinner is always the humble hero for Mulder and Scully and for the viewer. Gillian Anderson is so convincing, we all know her as Scully, that's just how top notch these actors are. Mark Snow's haunting melodic music brings a chill to each scene. Chris Carter's idea for a TV show is by far better than most SCI FI shows. The X Files is an instant classic telling science fiction stories as it was meant to be.
I have to include Millennium, if you have not scene it, ignore the critics and try it. I thought that was one of Chris Carter's best ideas. I also have all three seasons of Millennium on DVD.
As far as any X Files DVD set, there is an alien conspiracy going on that you will want to see from season one. With that said, the regular "filler episodes" outside the alien conspiracy are more for my taste anyway and there is plenty in each season. They are stand alone episodes that are mini-movies. In my opinion, the reason why the X Files films did not do so well is because they already used the same quality of writing and producing for TV.
No SCI FI show today has the look, the music and quality of guest casting like the X Files. The crew are top notch and each an every show they gave 150%.』
(Best price.) 『This is the slim set so it's a great price just for the movies. Very little extra. If you are buying for yourself and have to save money, look for used sets at discount stores.
If you're going to purchase DVDs new, I don't know why you would not order from Amazon. I've never been disappointed. Free shipping for purchases over $25, even if the purchases are split up. Direct mailing so I don't have to wrap it and mail it. Depending on where you live, purchases are often tax-free. Great return policy, although I can't remember ever returning anything.』
(X-Files equals sweet Sci-Fi action!) 『Another fantastic season of the best scifi based TV series ever. With great episodes including redux I and II, as well as the critically acclaimed Post-Modern Prometheus and Kill Switch written by William Gibson. One of my favorite seasons.』 『Studio: Tcfhe Release Date: 12/02/2008 Run time: 820 minutes Rating: Nr』 『The midpoint of what would be a nine-season show, the fifth season ofThe X-Files(the first to be put on DVD in anamorphic widescreen format) gives fans a heavy heaping of what they love. For the mythology buffs, riveting episodes from the season bookends "Redux" and "The End" to several episodes in between tease with new revelations about the vast government conspiracies and alien invasion plot lines sketched in earlier seasons. But enough questions are left unanswered for the theatricalX-Filesmovie, which was released the subsequent summer, and the seasons that followed. Supporting characters like the Lone Gunmen, Agent Krycek, the Pusher Robert Modell, and Fox's father and sister Bill and Samantha Mulder are flushed out in more detail in several episodes that occasionally jump back in time to cover the prehistory of the X-files. New chess pieces are introduced, each raising new questions: the clairvoyant child Gibson Praise, Agent Spender, faceless alien resistance fighters with pyromaniacal tendencies, a child who may be Scully's, and Mulder's old flame, agent Diana Fowley (Mimi Rogers). All the time, no one knows who will be assassinated next, who is or isn't dead, just who isn't potentially a child of the Cigarette Smoking Man, and why the base of the neck is everyone's vulnerable spot. The creature feature stand-alone episodes vary in quality, but all are redeemed by the outrageously funny self-parody episode "Bad Blood," a fan favorite that guest stars Luke Wilson as a small-town sheriff who catches Scully's eye.
Finally, "shippers" (fans who would love nothing better than to see Mulder and Scully act upon their feelings for each other) get a heavy dose of the usual sexual innuendo and lingering, tender glances between the attractive costars. Mimi Rogers and Luke Wilson incite palpable jealousy between the leads; the appearance of a wedding band on Mulder's hand in a back story hints at stories not told; and the usual extreme and dimly lit crises illustrate just how far Mulder and Scully will go for each other. In the end, the complexities of their relationship may be the most tense and intriguing of all the mysteries explored by this epic television series.--Eugene Wei』

But there are better ones out there. Made in 77' Its the story of a man that goes crazy and starts killing people in a apartment complex. All of his victums seem to be women. He just helps himself into there house and takes his toolbox with him and cuts them up using the tools in his toolbox. Thats pretty much the whole movie Like I said good movie but I would recommend "Slumber Party Massacre." I think that is a better slasher movie. It is alot like Toolbox Murders. This movie is a Blue Underground film. They have alot of good movies. If you are a fan of gore movies I would check this movie out. Pick it up at amazon.』
(When is Anchor Bay going to release this?) 『The Toolbox murders is by far one of my favorite's of the NASTY genre. It hit theatres the same time as the Texas Chainsaw Masacre and it was reported to be meaner in violence. Today it is relitivly tame, but there are some things that make this a classic. One is the Nail Gun scene, and two the fact that he's a religous fanatic killing people because of their sins. Not to mention he kidnaps his neisce and mistakes her as his dead daughter. The problem I have with Blue UnderGround is that it wouldn't play properly on my DVD machine. I heard that there might have been a pressing error on it or it could just have been that my player was a crappy Apex. Either way it would be nice to have this be fixed or Anchor Bay release a better copy of it. I'm not saying it was Blue UnderGround's fault. Don't get me wrong I have some other films released by them, but I hated getting rid of this film because it wouldn't play during a scene. Also It would be nice if they came out with an Unrated Version. That is if there is an Unrated version out there.』
(Dull Slasher Flick) 『The Toolbox Murders (1977) is a misleading movie. The first thirty minutes are non-stop carnage and t&a. It makes you think that you're watching a good exploitation/slasher film. However, after that first half hour the movie takes a completely different direction. It becomes a dull psychological drama. There are no more toolbox murders. No more nudity. Just a bunch of boring dialogue that's often lame as well. Also, I have to point out that this movie was remade a few years back by Tobe Hooper. Hooper's movie is far better and really isn't anything like this one. You should watch that one instead since I would give that 4/5. I can only give this one 2/5, and that's just for the first thirty minutes. After that, you should just turn it off if you value your time.』
(Awesome!) 『A sadistic and religious murderer takes matters into his own hands and tries to rid "The Filth" from women using his trusty toolbox. After the death of the murderer's daughther he then becomes angry towards all women and uses items such as a nail gun, hammer, drill, screw driver etc. to kill them and leaves the police clueless as to who the killer is, The killer kidnaps a young teenage girl and pretends that she his daughter. And a bunch of other crazy gumbo.
The film has an interesting feel to it and gruesome murders, the movie was criticized as a woman-hating piece of filth by femminest and critics alike but it was a popular hit at drive-in theaters and grindhouse theaters. It's a very sleazy and gory as hell slasher flick that plays also as a character study and does have funny elements such as a funny song that plays during the murder of a woman in the tub with a nail-gun. The film became a cult hit among horror fanatics and gorehounds alike and predates "Maniac" and "Driller Killer".
The DVD has a wonderful transfer and nice sound to it with extras that will satisfy.』
(Misogynistic trash) 『The first half hour of this film has pretty much most of the violence. And surprise surprise most ( actually all ) of the victims are young women at this stage. Another 14 year old girl is taken hostage in the killers house where it's revealed that it's a 50+ year old man who is on a revenge mission for the death of his daughter. The 14 year old girl has the unenviable position of a) looking like his dead daughter b) being tied to a bed. When he explains why he is killing these women ( most of whom are stunningly attractive ) he says because the women of today " do things which they shouldn't - they're filled with filth." Which doesn't really make sense at all for the seemingly random killings that he carried out. OK the last one may have some suggestion as to why he did it but you'd still be hard pressed to think of that as a motif because it just doesn't add up. The rest of the film laboriously plods on as we try out the detective whodunnit done by 19 year old guys who're suspicious. If you felt uncomfortable in your seat thinking " Come on damn it end for Chrissakes," you would not be alone. It's tedious and well the movie just begs to be finished off quicker. In the ending it certainly springs a surprise or two. Very effective I might add to. One guy dousing his friend and the entire garage with petrol and setting the garage on fire after his friend finds out the truth about the who is the killer. After that it kinda gets really creepy which I'll let you watch without spoiling it. Needless to say it is a pretty good ending. By the way I wouldn't believe that true story nonsense or at least if it is true the director made a complete hash of the whole thing.
However in spite of all that, I still rate it two stars because it is deeply misogynistic, the middle part of the film is horrendously slow to the point of crashing to a halt and the whole film does not strike me as believable. The film is riddled with nonsense which doesn't add up. A shame really, it had all the ingredients for a good movie but you can never trust descriptions fully.』 『BIT BY BIT BY BIT... (Worst disc ever) 『My review does not apply to the film itself. The movie I like but the Blu-ray release is the worst Blu-ray/dvd I have ever purchased or tried to watch. The disc is rife with errors and the loading time is aggrivating. The one saving grace to this Blu-ray disc was the sound, which until toward the end of the film, was outstanding. At the end of the film the sound became distorted.
The retail price on Fight the Future is only $16.99. I'm beginning to wonder if there is a reason for such a low price. I think this Blu-ray was produced on the cheap. A shame since the film itself is pretty cool.

『The definitive American television series of the '90s comes to the big screen with an anticlimactic whimper. And how could it be otherwise? Why should material so perfectly realized in one medium necessarily translate well into another? The series is crisply and thoughtfully executed in just about every detail, but the heart of its appeal lies in the elegant handling of complicated and evolving ongoing story lines, which is not something movies are especially good at. The big-screen drive for closure cramps the creative style, though it may also help nonfans get a grip on the proceedings. We do get some invigorating thrills and chills, however, and a more satisfying sense of the scale of an all-enveloping human-alien conspiracy than ever before, but there's no more plot development here than in an average two-part season-ending. FBI black sheep Mulder and Scully have been temporarily transferred from the X-Files project to an anti-terrorist unit to investigate an Oklahoma City-style bombing. They uncover a new wrinkle in the Syndicate/Cancer Man conspiracy--basically an attempt to help one bunch of (benign?) aliens fight off another bunch who want to colonize Earth. A spectacular, ice-bound finale thrillingly staged by series-veteran director Rob Bowman offers Mulder (but not a conveniently unconscious Scully) his first clear look at a You Know What, which in some quarters qualifies as an epochal event. Martin Landau offers the agents some crucial clues, and several familiar TV faces (including the Lone Gunmen and Mitch Pileggi's indispensable Assistant Director Skinner) turn up briefly to wink knowingly at faithful fans.--David Chute』

If you've been watching this series long enough that you are even thinking about getting this season then go for it. You will be disappointed but only with the fact that USA decided to end the series without allowing them another season to wrap everything up. (Sorry to say goodbye) 『Several of my favorite TV series have had final seasons this past year, and the Dead Zone was one of those. (The Dead Zone: Fifth (Final) Season) 『The Dead Zone series was excellent and when writing about the final season I must warn readers that I refer to events they may not wish to know about until they have watched the series. As an Australian I eagerly awaited the arrival of all the seasons of The Dead Zone due to episodes being shown intermittently. The first shock was the death of Walt and a replacement actor for J.J. But the big disappointment was the unresolved fate of Stilson. To carry a story through so many seasons and leave it open-ended was frustrating and annoying.
Hopefully they will revisit the series to tie up loose ends. But overall the quality was still apparent.

The movies aren't "letterboxed". Hello, Einstein... these movies were NOT filmed in the "widescreen" format. Their aspect ratio is pretty much that of a standard TV show from the 60's or 70's. Sometimes, the "folks" use this medium to decide on a purchase. It would be a lo-down dirty shame if someone misses out on these wonderfull films because some @X#X%X has NO clue what he is writing about. These are all fantastic movies! In ANY format!』
(Not letterboxed!) 『I started to buy this set and then realized the movies were all "full screened" and not reduced or letterboxed. You lose 25% of the picture and a lot of the ambiance. Not good for Noir films, or any film for that matter. Shame on TCM! Wait until they come out in letterbox!』
(Four Fantastic movies for a great price) 『This is an amazing set of four great movies and for a decent price. "Dial M for Murder" appears to have been remastered, and cleaned up, and really looks fantastic. The colors are rich and vibrant and the blacks are deep. "The Big Sleep" though, is not remastered, and has dust spots on the negative. Also, the left side of the frame sometimes appears dull and lacks the deep blacks seen on the right side of the frame. "The Postman Always Rings Twice" also has dust spots, though "The Maltese Falcon" appears to be clean.
I was surprised to also see that each film has many special features, including interviews with other directors, film historians, or archival experts. The packaging is basic but it does the job with a movie on each side of two discs in a DVD case. This set is an excellent buy.』
(tcm greatest classic films collection) 『I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THIS PURCHASE AND I WOULD RECOMMEND TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS.』
(One of the best of the TCM collections) 『This is not really a boxed set. Instead it is a two disc collection of four really good murder mystery films under the control of Warner Home Video. The purpose of these sets is to introduce people to the various genres of classic film at a low price. Unlike the Warner Archive collection, these discs are pressed DVDs, but there are no extras.
First, there are two classic Humphrey Bogart films, "The Maltese Falcon" and "The Big Sleep". "The Maltese Falcon" is available in deluxe form as The Maltese Falcon Three-Disc Special Edition (1941&1931 versions / Satan Met a Lady). This film not only has Bogart in his prime, it has the great team of Sidney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre. Here they are not so much a team as on the screen simultaneously, but they are still fun to watch. Here Bogart plays a detective that is so tough he does things like pistol whip someone with their own gun and then give the gun back to him. Nobody but Bogart could pull off this kind of toughness.
"The Big Sleep" has Bogart teamed with Lauren Bacall, with Bogart playing Philip Marlowe in a well-acted film noir that is a bit confusing the first time you watch it. Things make more sense the second time around though. There were actually two versions of this film and they can be found on The Big Sleep, along with commentary comparing the two versions, if you want the extras.
Dial M for Murder was a Hitchcock film from 1954 starring Grace Kelly as the cheating wife of a tennis player (Ray Milland). Milland's character learns about her affair and, rather than feeling terribly hurt about it, he is worried about losing access to his wife's money should she divorce him. He makes plans to insure that never happens. I've always loved this one and the unexpected turn it makes in the middle - Ray Milland turns out to be quite the quick thinker under pressure. This is already available as Dial M for Murder. This more deluxe versions contains two featurettes.
Finally there is 1946's The Postman Always Rings Twice. John Garfield plays Frank, a drifter, who gets a job at a restaurant run by Nick and his young wife, Cora (Lana Turner). Frank and Cora fall for each other, but Cora doesn't want to give up Nick's money. The two make one bungled attempt at murder that raises the suspicion of the D.A. Their second one is also bungled. It manages to kill Nick, but it also gets them accused of murder. This is available in a more deluxe edition as The Postman Always Rings Twice, which contains a documentary on John Garfield.
If you only pick up two of these TCM greatest collections make sure it is this one and TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection: American Musicals (The Band Wagon / Meet Me in St. Louis / Singin' in the Rain / Easter Parade). All three Vin Diesel films are great views. I highly recommend.』
(Top Rate) 『The two non-animated movies are top rate, in the upper tier of sci-fi movies. The 'Alien' movies, 'Predator' movies, 'Event Horizon'; if you like sci-fi dark and strange these Vin Diesel movies should fit well in your collection.』

(Chronicles of Riddick... If Mozart wrote a Space Opera!) 『Chronicles of Riddick: 6 out of 10: This movie reminded me very much of Dune. Not because of the opulent sets and costumes but simply because for the first 30 minutes or so I had absolutely no idea what was going on.
Now keep in mind I saw and loved the previous film Pitch Black (And if there was any justice in Hollywood Pitch Black star Rahda Mitchell would be getting 20 million dollar paychecks and Van Diesel would be doing walk on roles in Colin Farrell vehicles) and I saw that 30-minute anime that was supposed to fill in the plot (needless to say it doesn't).
The film Dune was criticized for its ponderous 15 minute opening narration and while I wouldn't inflict that particular torture on any other movie some idea of what is going on was clearly in order. Chronicles of Riddick on the other hand starts of mired in confusion. Even for those that had seen the previous film(s).
It then quickly hits a low point with seizure inducing battle flashes and a little girl melting Riddick's heart in a scene right out of the Grinch that Stole Christmas. But as soon as I was reaching for the eject button the movie strangely morph's into Alien 3 (or Star Trek VI the Undiscovered Country take your pick.)
See Riddick was going to save Jack the twelve year old girl who pretended to be a boy and now looks and dresses like a supermodel because she is safely located in an otherwise all male prison. Yeah that one kind of lost me too. However the action scenes pick up again and enough back story drifts in so that the biblical/Shakespearian plot comes into focus.
You see Riddick was born on a planet called Krypton, and then he was placed in the reeds to escape the pharaoh or was it King Herod. anyway the guy married to Lady MacBeth. No! Not the one with the Billy Ray Cyrus mullet. He was Lady MacBeth's lover Lancelot. See clear as day.
Sure the bad guy wears that mask from Amadeus and his troops look like Gwar started a dance troop. But many of the sets and costumes carry the day. The special effects are very well done (with the possible exception of the CGI Hellhounds) and the music certainly could have been worse.
The basic problem is the three main characters left over from Pitch Black have gotten the warm and fuzzies. I've explained supermodel Jack above and I understand why the Imam character had to be significantly toned down post 9/11 but why change Riddick?
He hugs puppies (okay Hellhounds) and children. All the appeal of the character from the first movie seems to be missing. He still talks the talk but the walk is very different. Looks like someone lost a pair.

And finally, Riddick finds himself humanity's unlikely champion in the special effects-fueled The Chronicles of Riddick. As he did withThe Arrival, director David Twohy revitalizes a derivative story, allowing you to forgive its flaws and submit to its visceral thrills. Under casual scrutiny, the plot's logic crumbles like a stale cookie, but it's definitely fun while it lasts.
A spaceship crashes on a desert planet scorched under three suns. The mostly doomed survivors include a resourceful captain (Radha Mitchell), a drug-addled cop (Cole Hauser), and a deadly prisoner (Vin Diesel) who quickly escapes. These clashing personalities discover that the planet is plunging into the darkness of an extended eclipse, and it's populated by hordes of ravenous, razor-fanged beasties that only come out at night. The body count rises, andPitch Blacksettles into familiar sci-fi territory.
What sets the movie apart is Twohy's developing visual style, suggesting that this veteran of B-movie schlock may advance to the big leagues. Like the makers ofThe Blair Witch Project, Twohy understands the frightening power of suggestion; his hungry monsters are better heard than seen (although once seen, they're chillingly effective), andPitch Blackgets full value from moments of genuine panic. Best of all, Twohy's got a well-matched cast, with Mitchell (so memorable with Ally Sheedy inHigh Art) and Diesel (Pvt. Caparzo fromSaving Private Ryan) being the standouts. The latter makes the most of his muscle-man role, and his character's development is one more reason this movie works better than it should.--Jeff Shannon
Dark Fury - The Chronicles of Riddick (Animated) Taking a page fromThe Animatrix, Dark Furyis part of a new trend of bridging theatrical sequels. As an official product of a franchise, the 35-minute anime benefits from having the original actors voice the characters, including Vin Diesel as Riddick. This story opens with the new action hero and the two other survivors ofPitch Blackalready caught by a giant spaceship filled with dread. The sinewy leader has a unique--and creepy--jail for master villains and she has her sights set on Riddick. The film--indeed the series--is indebted to animator Peter Chung, who brings his techno style from hisAeon Fluxseries. His smooth animation for Riddick doesn't reinvent the character as much as give him a new, appealing fluidity. As anime goes, there's nothing really new here--plenty of action, cool killers, and dramatic spurts of blood--but it's a building block for how this genre might enliven movie series and sequels in the future.--Doug Thomas』

Plot- 2 years ago a giant 25 foot great white shark attacked and killed 5 swimmers, now the terror is back, but this time no one wants to nelieve Chief Martian Brody (Roy Scheider), but now there are a group of teens stranded out in the ocean and the shark has no patience to eat them (plus both Brody's sons are out there with them), now the real terror begins
Acting- as i said, over the top
Gore- some red water (if that is even considered gore), and a burnt corpse
Bottom Line- 4 out of 5, good plot, well liked, and yes jaws 2 had some good actors such as Brody, Ellen, and Mayor
Rated PG, Time 117min, 1977, Color』
(Marv's review) 『This movie takes me way back. I bought the first one not too long ago, so I had to have the second. Now that I have Jaws 1&2, my Jaws collection is complete. I thought that the last 2 Jaws movies were terrible, but I really enjoy the first 2.』
(Very much eager to see this movie) 『I am very much eager to see this movie. But unfortunately, still I have not received this Goods. Its the third time My orders are not available to me, and they will inform that they are sending again, but never delivered to my address. I am UNLUCKY to watch this movie』
(There's a New Fish in the Pond) 『Poor unwilling Brody tackles an even bigger great white in Jaws 2, without any help from Hooper or Quint. His motivation is his two sons Sean and Michael, who go daysailing with a group of young islanders and get into a terrifying situation only their dad can get them and the others out of. I enjoyed Jaws, but I liked Jaws 2 better. It has more upbeat music and colorful sails on the boats. Roy Scheider again plays Brody but with a new fish to deal with. Lorraine Gary again plays his wife while Murray Hamilton again appears as the reluctant mayor. Even though Steven Spielberg was not the director, the action moved very nicely with plenty of heart-stopping moments. The movie may not scare viewers as much as Jaws did, but I feel it is a worthy sequel to the original blockbuster.
』
(The best Jaws sequel.) 『From the director of a few episodes of Kojak and Baretta, plus the Academy Award winning masterpiece Supergirl, comes Jaws 2. Just when you thought it was safe to go back to a guaranteed profit...
Jaws 2 is arguably the second best shark movie ever made. I know that's a bold statement considering the brilliance of Jaws 4 and Deep Blue Sea, but just hear me out: it's better than Jaws 4 and Deep Blue Sea! It's even better than Jaws 3. In fact, the only flaw Jaws 2 has is that the shark doesn't get beat up by dolphins. If they could only combine the dude with the afro from Jaws 2 and the dolphins from Jaws 3, plus Jaws 3's cutting edge special effects, the banana boat from Jaws 4 and Samuel L. Jackson from Deep Blue Sea, we'd have the perfect movie! But, alas, Hollywood wants to be greedy. So all we have here is a watchable follow-up to one of the greatest blockbusters of all time.
Once again, the Brody family doesn't want to stay out of the water, so, naturally, a shark comes and eats everybody. Only this time, instead of attacking naked girls and Alex Kintner, it's developed an appetite for cheap looking boats. The first half of the movie is a little draggy, but the pace really picks up once Michael and his stupid friends go out sailing. While none of these people are as cool as Robert Shaw, at least we get a cool helicopter attack and the dude with the afro throwing verbal abuse at little Brody, who's stranded on a capsized boat.
While I wouldn't call this a "flat" movie, it lacks the flow of Spielberg's original. The style is fairly typical of a late 70s flick. But, hey, it's fun to watch. As a kid, I didn't care which Jaws movie was on TV, as long as it was one of the first two. Things haven't changed.
Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton reprise their roles from the first movie, which somehow provides Jaws 2 with a little more class. John Williams also returns to compose part two of one of his signature scores. It's also worth noting that while this DVD goes for cheap and advertises itself as simply "Jaws 2 - Widescreen," the special features are fairly impressive. Kudos to Universal for actually giving this release some attention.』 『AMITY'S CITIZENS AND POLICE CHIEF DREAD ANOTHER TOURIST SEASON WITH A GREAT WHITE SHARK NEAR THE BEACH.』 『Ushering in the age of the inferior sequel,Jaws 2was essentially a license to print money. Indeed, the film did very well despite blatantly replicating the plot of Steven Spielberg's original, though to lesser effect. Roy Scheider returns as Martin Brody, sheriff of the small island town of Amity. Just as the beachside resort is rebounding from the previous movie's shark attacks, another great white is snacking on divers and water-skiers. Naturally, the town fathers don't want to confront reality and choose to proceed with a lucrative sailing regatta, resulting in a grisly loss of life. Besides the fact that director Jeannot Szwarc takes an impersonal, workaday approach to the film,Jaws 2manages to be both stylistically flat and openly cynical about its commercial intentions. Of chief interest here is Scheider's performance, which wisely reflects the emotional fallout from Brody's last trauma in his obsessive behavior here.--Tom Keogh』

Plot- Robert and Kathrine Thorn are two proud parents of a child named Damien, but Damien is no regular child, he is the Devils son, and when he turned 5 the killing began
Acting- Gregory Peck (Robert Thorn) was good but I will always belivie that Lee Remick's (Kathrine) fall to the floor was a bit played out, and i love it
Gore- a decapitation, and an impalement
Bottom Line- 5 out of 5
Rated R, Time 111 minuets, 1976, Color』
(You little devil, you...) 『It's amazing how a third of a century can change one's perspective. At its release, "The Omen" was considered a cheap, stupid, excessively / gratuitously violent horror film. And it arguably still is cheap and stupid. But by today's standards of violence, it's positively staid.
It's not anywhere nearly as bad as I remember, probably because so many much-worse films have come down the pike. This is partly due to the "slow build", combined with (thank Heaven) GREG-ory PECK's refusal to fall back on his irritating mannerisms. It's one of his better performances.
Donner's direction is little more than competent. His apparent decision was to let the material speak for itself, rather than playing up the suspense, or horrific elements. Paradoxically, this allowed Jerry Goldsmith to "fill in the blanks", resulting in his only score to win an Oscar. It's difficult to understand how this film got Donner the director's chair for "Superman", but it did.
It's a pleasure to see Patrick Troughton as a deranged priest trying to convince Peck that his child is not human, and needs to be offed, pronto. Troughton was the second actor to portray The Doctor, and in my view, was the best ever to play the role. Similary, it's nice to have the late Leo McKern as the Biblical archaeologist who gives Peck the knives he needs to kill the kid.
This Blu-ray transfer is by far the darkest I've seen. This greatly helps the cemetary scene, which was shot on a soundstage with one of the most beautiful hand-painted backdrops you will ever see. Donner is lavish in his praise of the work of the woman who came out of retirement to create it.
Richard Donner's running commentary is only intemittently informative. It's typical of Donner -- a strange mixture of self-absorption and self-deprecation. He does, however, inveigh against digital imaging, and avers that "The Omen" was good precisely because its budget was a bit over $2M -- a pittance, even in 1976 --- and the production crew had no choice but to do everything "on the floor", in real time.
Whether "The Omen" is a classic, I leave it for each viewer to decide. But it's worth seeing at least once.』
(It's Mother Mr. Thorn. It's Mother was a Ja......!!) 『Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) is an American Ambassador to Italy with a beautiful wife (Lee Remick), an adorable "adopted" son (the perfectly cast Harvey Stephens) and a life of privilege. His life is quickly turned upside down when he comes to the realization that his son, Damien Thorn, may be the antichrist as foretold in the book of Revelations. Judging by the events that unfold; a public suicide, unexplained animal attacks, repeated warnings from a demented priest, peculiar deaths that were foreshadowed by a photographer's camera lens etc, only confirm what is suspected- that innocent looking cherub is indeed the spawn of the Devil.
This effective, well constructed thriller has a pretty iconic reputation. It gave us, for better or for worse, a character that has become as famous as "The Exorcist's" Regan MacNeil. It also boasts an impressive cast of accomplished actors, Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, David Warner, Billie Whitelaw, and they do not disappoint. The film is mostly set in London, and its cloudy setting adds tremendous amount of atmosphere which is further enhanced by Jerry Goldsmith's haunting score. As expected of any film dealing with unholy characters, there is a lot of religious talk about God, the book of Revelations and its prophecies which may have many atheists rolling their eyes but it is expertly handled by Richard Donner. He also manages to squeeze every ounce of fear from his actors and the wickedly chilling and cleverly executed death sequences are as gruesome as they are original (I wonder if the "Final Destination" series got their ideas from this film). Although it's never as bloody as the films that were to follow in the 80's, watching a clean decapitation from a sheet of glass or the impalement of a holy man in front of a church's walls are enough to send chills up most spines and dread permeates the entire film. As already mentioned the mood of the London setting is genuinely depressing, no offense to Londoners as I am sure it is a lovely place, but there is something ominous about the locale of this film, grey skies, not too much sunlight, a colossal, empty mansion with humongous staircases that doesn't seem to see much traffic etc, all is perfectly suited for this kind of piece and this sense of dread is carried over to Italy when the action is moved over there.
Although "The Omen" is not as visceral as other genre films that followed and the pacing is a bit slow, there is enough bone chilling suspense here to make even the bravest of souls shudder. As is evidenced here and by those other horror classics of yester-year, Friedkin's "The Exorcist", Kubrick's "The Shining", Hooper's (or Spielbergs- take your pick) "Poltergeist" etc, when the right tools are given to the right director, much is accomplished. Some have stated this film, along with other classics of the time period, has not aged well or is "dated". I tend to disagree. "The Omen" is as frightening and as fresh today as when I first saw it over 25 years ago. In fact it looks better than ever. Especially when compared to the CGI infested train-wrecks that have sprouted out from Holly-wood in recent years. This movie spawned 3 inferior sequels ("Damien: Omen II" and "Omen III: The Final Conflict" are decent enough to warrant a view) and was faithfully remade in 2006. Despite its many critics, the remake is worthy of checking out after you have viewed the original vision since it reigns supreme. Recommended. 』
(Worth watching a least once) 『I watched this movie for the first time in 2009. I'm sure if I had seen it in '76 it would get at least one more star. The film is well done, but not in the upper echelon of the best (The Shining, Psycho, The Exorcist). The music is very well done and has some sophisticated use of dissonance. One of my favorite touches was hearing the chant during a suspenseful scene and then in the next scene the phone is ringing to the same rhythm. I thought that was a clever touch. The film lacks in some areas though. It is somewhat slow and it is VERY predictable. If you want to check it out I would recommend turning the lights down and the sound up to let it work its magic.』
(One of the best horror movies of all time) 『The Omen is a timeless horror classic, one of the scariest movies ever made, and in my opinion the best movie ever made concerning the antichrist and his uprising. It is a tale of pure horror as a man slowly discovers that his adopted son is none other than the son of satan himself, and any who dare stand in his way are soon to meet their grisly demise.
Well made, well acted, top notch music score from Jerry Goldsmith, and one of the darkest and most ominous feels ever achieved in a horror movie...Truly there's nothing more I can say about The Omen that hasn't been said a thousand times over. If there is such a thing as a perfect horror movie, this would be it. If you want good horror or just a good movie in general, this is one to own.』 『The first film in classic, four-part legacy of terror stars Gregory Peck as an ambassador who is talked into switching his wife's (Lee Remick) stillborn baby with an orphaned infant. When young Damien is Five, the horror begins with his nanny's dramatic suicide. As the death toll escalates, Damien's father, realizing his son is the antichrist, decides that he must kill the boy and rid the world of the evil.』 『AfterThe Exorcistsparked a lengthy trend of supernatural thrillers, this 1976 horror film scored a hit with critics and audiences for mixing gothic horror and mystery into its plot about a young boy suspected of being the personification of the anti-Christ. (No doubt it's a favorite of shock-rocker Marilyn Manson.) Directed by Richard Donner (best known for hisSupermanandLethal Weaponfilms),The Omengained a lot of credibility from the casting of Gregory Peck and Lee Remick as a distinguished American couple living in England, whose young son Damien bears "the mark of the beast." Mysterious deaths and unexplained incidents draw the attention of a photographer (David Warner), whose investigation leads to the young boy--and also to the photographer's shocking decapitation (in a scene that has since been inducted into the horror hall of fame). At a time when graphic gore had yet to dominate the horror genre, this film used its violence discreetly and to great effect, and the mood of dread and potential death is masterfully maintained. It's all a bit hokey, with a lot of biblical portent and sensational fury, but few would deny it's highly entertaining. Jerry Goldsmith's Oscar-winning score works wonders to enhance the movie's creepy atmosphere.--Jeff Shannon』

Not yet released Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (a very good slasher movie!) 『This was to me a very good slasher flick like the scream. i know what you did last summer and the urban legend movies which i enjoyed. If you enjoyed those movies i highly recommend this movie. Can't wait for the DVD release.』
(Typical stupid horror fare) 『Sorority row belongs in a sub-genre all its own, the moronic-horror movie. If that were true though I guess one could argue there should be a subgenre for smart-horror movies. Those are of course VERY few and far between.
Horror movies are by and far retarded and stupid due to the dumb characters who we don't give a damn about because they are as stupid as broken glass(but not remotely as sharp!). First off, this is not a horror movie because we don't care about any of the characters because they were all stupid enough to accidentally get one of their friends killed in one of the most bone-headed pranks ever, even for fictional college-age bimbos. This is NOT a spoiler BTW because this was all seen in the damn trailer! Anyway, it's not horror unless we care about the people who die, and we don't. Their fate is arguably linked to their being stupid enough to get their friend killed. The circumstances under which this all happens is laughable if it weren't so sad.
Anyway, the so-called horror is predictable, the deaths are ridiculous(shoving a bottle down a woman's throat... really, and managing to kill a woman who has a shotgun before she pulls the trigger when the killer is across the room from her?). How the hell does a character in a robe have such great precision and stealth anyway when sneaking around and killing people? You can't see his/her face and that sure as hell means their eyesight must be hindered somewhat! This leads to my other point. The horror is lost if it's not the least bit realistic and turns out looking silly, dumb, and almost manages to add a new definition to the word asinine! Sorority Row is a waste of time unless you are really desperate for one of the stupidest horror movies since Rob Zombie's Halloween 2. So if you like to watch grass grow, paint dry, or Bob Saget on Full house, you'll love Sorority Row!』
(An alright slasher that could have been better if actresses were used better...(spoilers)) 『I think this movie had much more potential. Especially when it comes to how the actresses were utilized. It just felt miscast. Rumor Willis ruins every scene she is in, and the fact that she survives the movie is grating. Suspense was not there, the chase scenes were too short, and in some cases there was no chasing at all. Jamie Chung's death could have been so much better, I thought she would have gone out fighting. Audrina Partridge was much better than expected and should have not been the victim of the prank, it should have been the one who played the drunk. And the identity of the killer/motive is ludicrous. I guess I just thought there was more potential for this movie.』
(SLASHER GOLD) 『What you see is what you get. This is a GREAT slasher, and CORRECTLY serves as a throwback to the 80s and 90s slashers we all loved so much. The kills are really creative and cool, the dialogue is funny and delightfuly cheesy. Means Girls + I Know What You Did Last Summer = Sorority Row...SLASHER GOLD!!』
(Soroity Row) 『I actually liked this movie. I expected it to be like "I know what you did last summer" a bit, but I enjoyed the way the murderer killed the girls in this movie. The bit*hy blond (I can't think of her real name) is a very good actress. I have seen her in "Odd Girl Out". I will buy this movie when it comes out :)』 『It’s all fun and games until someone gets stabbed with a tire iron. When a pledge week prank goes terribly wrong and one of their own is killed, the popular, hard-partying sisters of Theta Pi vow never to speak of the tragedy again. But the past comes back to haunt them in the form of a homicidal maniac seeking revenge during the out-of-control graduation festivities.』
