What I mean to say is that while I love the William Castle original film, Castle's version was more of a comedy with a nifty 3-D gimmick thrown in. The basic story of a family inheriting a haunted mansion was pure sitcom at best. And while there are some chills sprinkled through the original film, the humor is what I remember most about the film. The remake does away with all of the humor and attempts to go for the jugular as a pure horror film. The basic storyline remains the same in that a family inherits a haunted house from a ghost hunting uncle. And like the original, 12 spirits inhabit the house...so who is the thirteenth ghost? You have to watch to find out. Tony Shalhoub turns in a solid performance as Arthur Kriticos, the widower and family man who inherits the haunted home from his uncle. Shalhoub was only 1 year away from striking gold with his TV show "Monk" when this film came out, and I find it difficult watching "Thirteen Ghosts" now, and not thinking of the Monk character obsessing about fingerprints all over the glass house?!?! The rest of the cast is solid as well, with F. Murray Abraham chewing up scenes as the ghost hunting uncle and Matthew Lillard still hunting ghosts here in his pre-Shaggy days. The special effects are pretty good, and the make-up for the various ghosts looks great. The glass house featured in the film is pretty inventive, and adds a nice touch of atmosphere. There are a few bumps and jumps that will jolt you out of your seat sprinkled throughout the film, but there is nothing in the movie that will stick with you past the end credits. If you enjoyed the remake of "The House on Haunted Hill", then you will probably enjoy this film as well. With the assistance of a psychic named Dennis (Matthew Lillard), Cyrus catches 12 souls before being killed on a hunt. Cyrus's nephew Arthur (Tony Shaloub) is a widower with two kids (Shannon Elizabeth plays the oldest) and a housekeeper (Rah Digga) to support. In financial trouble and in risk of being evicted from his apartment Arthur gets some much needed relief when a lawyer representing Cyrus's estate shows up at his door. He informs Arthur that he is the inheritor of his uncle's mansion. The mansion is a spectacular structure made out of glass that Arthur and his family are all too eager to move into. The only problem is that they also inherit the 12 souls that Cyrus captured. Dennis is also there looking for the money Cyrus owed him and together he and Arthur learn that there is a 13th ghost and only Arthur can catch him. This is the second Dark Castle (a film company created by Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis that re-imagines the 50's and 60's horror films of director William Castle for modern audiences) film after 'House On Haunted Hill'. Both films start off very promising establishing a creepy vibe and the promise of genuine scares before tripping over complicated plot twists that cause the film to be boring and not frightening. This film starts off great beginning in an abandoned junkyard then moving to Arthur's claustrophobic apartment before finally settling in the mansion. There are some wonderfully ominous shots in the beginning but eventually overt gore wins out over any subtlety. The ghosts are definitely disturbing and horrific but they weren't utilized like they should have been. The explanation as to why Arthur is the only man capable of capturing the last ghost is a nice touch and at least provides one unexpected surprise. Shannon Elizabeth factors in the beginning but is absent during the middle act only to reappear in the film's final act. This lets Matthew Lillard, from 'Scream', steal the show. He sells every scene he's in with hyper energy and some good physical comedy. Murray Abraham, Embeth Davidtz, JR Bourne and MONK's Tony Shalhoub star in the movie. F. Murray Abraham plays Uncle Cyrus Kriticos and gets killed hunting the 12th ghost. Tony Shalhoub, Shannon Elizabeth and Alec Roberts are the family moving into Cyrus's prison of ghosts. Matthew Lillard and Embeth Davidtz are ghost hunters. Matthew Lillard is trying to help the family get out of the house after discovering how dangerous the ghosts still are. I've been a fan of the "Halloween" series for many years, and this installment was very good. I was glad to see the series get back on track after the strange episode 3. I thought Danielle Harris did a very good job as Jamie, and it was good to see Donald Pleasence reprise his role as Dr. Loomis. Although this episode lacked some of Michael's signature knifings, the suspense was still palpable throughout. I found this to be a very good addition to the "Halloween" series. Michael Myers has come back with a vengeance. Watch Halloween 4 and see the return of Michael Myers.』 (The night Halloween met B) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『In a luck break of events, Sid the Elf was able to catch Halloween 4 on tv one of the roughly 750 times AMC shows it during October. Great timing right there because it allows us to make Halloween 4 the final film in October Horrorgreatsuccess. This is very fitting because Sid loves the Halloween series, and 4 is a great way to close out Sid's personal horror film festival. And, really, who doesn't want to see another Loomis vs. Myers rematch? This has always been one of Sid's favorite secretly B horror flicks. Halloween 4 is set 10 years to the day after the original classic. Myers has been in a coma for 10 years after Loomis and him were in that sweet fire at Ben Tramer Memorial Hospital in Haddonfield. Myers has been kept in a federal sanitarium but now he is being transfered back to his old stomping grounds, Smith's Grove. There is no logic, no reason behind this move which in Sid's eyes is great because it's so implausible that it set off the first B alarm of the film. During the transfer, the ambulance crew is discussing the comatose guy in the back and they mention that his sister, Laurie Strode, has died in a car accident and Laurie's daughter, Jamie please, is living with the Carruthers family in Haddonfield. Obviously, Myers wakes up upon hearing this, picks them off and heads to Haddonfield for a Halloween rampage. Standing in his way, however, is the legendary Dr. Sam Loomis along with new sherrif in town Ben Meeker. For this round, Loomis has some of the best fake burn scars ever, but he's still equiped with all his old speeches about Myers to convey that he's not a man, he's pure evil. Awesome. Sid did the math here and figured out that Myers is 31 here, right in the heart of his prime. That must account for his possesing little girls to choose his clown costume from his rookie year and ice a family member and appear randomly to Jamie and Loomis. He was a tour de force in this one. He hit his peak, undoubedly, in the famous Hick Scene which just may be the best scene in horror film history and looms large in Sid the Elf lore. If you're a B fan, please get the DVD of this movie and watch the Hick scene in slo mo. Its sequel, Halloween II, upped the ante with more blood and more disposable characters. Halloween III: Season of the Witch tried turning the franchise into The Twilight Zone. But after its critical and commercial failure, it was realized that the the real draw to these movies was the borderline-supernatural masked killer Michael Myers. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers was the producers' "mia culpa" to those who were turned off by Halloween III, resurrecting Myers and making him even more unkillable, if that's possible. He seems to now posess superhuman strength on top of the supernatural ability to take any kind of physical punishment but never die, embedding his thumb in one man's forehead and crushing another man's skull with his bare hands. Looks like Michael has had in I.V. drip of roids while he was in that decade-long coma. Also making his return to the franchise is Donald Pleasence's Sam Loomis, Michael's former psychiatrist and the Captain Ahab to Michael's Moby Dick. Though scarred and hobbled but somehow still alive after Halloween II's explosive finale, Loomis is still as relentless in hunting Michael as Michael is hunting his family, and Pleasence's perfomance anchors the movie, as Loomis once again tries to warn the quaint Midwestern town of Haddonfield, Illinois that Michael has returned to wreak havoc on Halloween night. Since Jamie Lee Curtis' career had taken off considerably since she first played Laurie Strode in the first two films, she could not reprise her role. Laurie's absence is explained away briefly, having died in a car crash a year before the events of Halloween 4Her character was replaced by Laurie's orphaned daughter Jame Lloyd, played by the adorable Danielle Harris. Jamie finds herself being plagued by nightmares of her masked uncle whom she's never met before and ultimately becomes the target of Michael's rampage. Harris manages to prevent Jamie from becoming a shrill, annoying character you wish Michael would eviscerate, and you actually care about her well-being. The supporting cast also do their best to keep this film from being another silly 80's slasher filled with disposable characters, something the series is incapable of avoiding with the follow-up Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. In Halloween 4, there is a love triangle between Jamie's adopted sister Rachel (played by Ellie Cornell), her prospective boyfriend Brady (played by Sasha Jensen), and busty blonde tart Kelly Meeker (played by the ever-gorgeous Kathleen Kinmont). Kelly's the daughter of the town's new sheriff, Ben Meeker (Beau Starr), who serves as the disbelieving voice to Loomis' urging that Michael Myers has returned to Haddonfield, Illinois to kill his young niece. Dwight Little directs the film quite deftly, adding a dark, foggy atmosphere that separates this film from the countless other identical slasher films out there. Alan Howarth's showtrack is a mix of ambient sounds and synth, occasionally pop-infused renditions of John Carpenter's simple yet classic orchestrations. Their work gives the movie a sense of dread and fear that many of its horror peers (and even its peers within the Halloween franchise) severely lack. And the film's zinger of a twist finale, leaves you wanting to know what happens next, but after watching Halloween 5, you'll wish you never found out. In all, Halloween 4 is a return to form for the Halloween franchise and a worthy sequel, even without the original's main star. And the best part? The carousel scene at the end is still one of the most chill-inducing I've seen in a PG movie. Perhaps the most haunting vision is the old teacher's dream of being the beauty she once was; she pays a hefty price for it, and I won't ruin it any more here; if you've never seen this though, the results are chilling. I cannot recall the actress' name. I just looked on IMDB, I believe it was Ellen Geer - and in the hands of anybody else, the scene would have felt phony; they found a real jewel, however, and she plays this scene brilliantly. The Dust Witch would also serve to scare me senseless as a younger man; she's still wickedly spooky 25 years later. Jason Robards seems a bit old to be the father, and he always did to me, but at the same time, he anchors this stellar cast and keeps the focus on the point of redemption that lies deep at the heart of the movie. It doesn't hurt a thing that it's based on Bradury's novel of the same name, and when you've got fiction writing like that to draw from, it's really hard to screw the picture up. This DVD provided two versions of the movie at 1.66:1 and 1.33:1 and was a good value except for the picture quality which was just so, so. This movie was really great and depicted an old time traveling carnival having the ability to grant your deepest wish, but then totally taking away your ability to enjoy it, and then some. This is referred to as a price, but it is far darker than a simple cost for your wish. Spoilers: 1) The once town beauty is now very old and wishes for her beauty again. She suddenly finds herself young and beautiful, but then goes blind while staring in the mirror. She then is taken by the Carnival, as are all their victims. 2) Mr. Crasetti, the town barber, wants nothing more than to see some beautiful elegant woman visit his town. The fortune teller ("Dust Witch") reads his mind and tells him that he would be "oh so happy" if he could see some elegant ladies and tells him they are waiting for him. Mr. Crasetti goes to the side show to see the harem girls dance, and winds up during his short lived session being converted into Madam Crasetti, the fat bearded lady (and from the sounds of his conversion, being castrated for good measure). 3) Ed, the town barman and amputee, wants only to be able to play football like he could when he was whole. He walks into the mirrored maze and is made a complete man only to be turned into a young boy. 4) Mr. Tetley wants nothing more than to win a game of chance which he does at one of the carnivals games. Then the Carnival gives him $1000 in winnings, free tickets for the Ferris wheel and a seat next to a very beautiful young woman who is the Dust Witch in disguise. He disappears into the bowels of the Carnival and all that is left of him is his cigar. 5) Tom Fury, the seller of lightning rods, who I believe to be a magical and powerful individual with some influence over lightning, doesn't seem to wish for anything but to supply people with his rods for their protection from a coming storm. Never missing a chance to punish a good deed, he is tortured by the carnival people with an electric chair in order to extract the time of arrival of an important storm. Only too human, his only short coming appears to be his being smitten by the beautiful Dust Witch, who he admires saying "More beautiful than Pocahontas". I never read the book to know what the novel was about, but it is clear that the basic story is from the mind of the great Ray Bradbury. I don't like his attempts at science fiction, but concerning the human condition, feel he was the master. It's by no means a perfect film, some of the acting is uneven and the characters are all unlikable, but it does deliver on thrills, chills and gruesome blood spills without resorting to black comedy or slapstick. It did occasionally walk the line between "deconstruction" and straightforward horror but, thankfully, it ended up sticking to the latter for the most part. We don't need to be told why horror doesn't always make sense, thanks. As any good horror fan knows, a successful slasher film must make good on three things: a visually exciting killer, imaginative and messy kills and copious amounts of unnecessary and often times exploitative nudity. The Hills Run Red provides all of these with a little extra to spare; Babyface is one of the coolest slashers since Leslie Vernon, Victor Crowley and Chrome Skull and pop star Sophie Monk (Pearlblossom) scorches onscreen with an absolutely gorgeous body. From The Dead Hate The Living! to The Hills Run Red? Dave Parker has indeed shown the horror community that with the right script and budget behind him he's got the stones to make some killer cinema, color me impressed. This almost makes up for his part in House of the Dead...almost. If you're hankering for a direct-to-DVD horror film (from the WB no less!) with spine, The Hills Run Red is no classic but it does indeed satisfy. Rumor has it that this flick saw cuts to make an R-rating, if there were they weren't noticeable at all because this film was surprisingly adult in comparison to what we normally get. I'd love to of seen an uncut version of this film, or at the very least Dave Parker's vision of this film, sans studio limitations. We get what we get though and, in this case, what we received was something not altogether bad though truthfully a bit forgettable in the long run.』 (Far from perfect, but not without its merits.) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This is a horror film filled to the brim with generic slasher cliches but centers around an interesting plot that should at the very least hold a horror fans' attention once through. The premise is an interesting one, a horror fan decides to track down a copy of a long forgotten film that was supposedly the scariest of all time and along the way he runs into some horrific problems of his own not to mention the rather large albeit somewhat foreseeable twist at the end. As interesting as this premise is, I can see why nobody decided to use it before because this film was a bit on the short side and still took it about as far as it could go. Acting is a mixed bag here, it's mostly bad with the exception of the director and his daughter, although the daughter was still highly inconsistent with only small moments of competence. I liked the respectful nods to the slasher and grindhosue genres of horror that are scattered throughout the film and the kills and gore and such look admittedly good for such a low budget title. All in all this film really isn't good in any sense of the word, but there's still something about it that I found to be enjoyable. Don't ask me why I liked this film, because all signs point to the fact that's it just another mediocre slasher, but there is something buried deep in there that gives it a feeling of its own and makes it a decent watch.』 『You heard the story. Would-be filmmaker Tyler (Tad Hilgenbrinck) finds a stripper named Alexa (Sophie Monk), who just happens to be the daughter of the mysterious director of the legendary lost film; Tyler drags two other friends (Janet Montgomery, Alex Wyndham) into the woods to research the location shooting of that fabled project. Since these characters are all hip in a post-Screamway to the dangers of young people going off into the woods, there's plenty of self-conscious humor about horror-movie clichés. Sure enough, once they leave civilization, the inbred weirdos and secret hiding places and gothically bizarre torture implements begin to crop up. The movie gets points for being clever, and there's at least one great plot-shifting moment (it involves the wordfetch); but once the blood starts running, a familiar series of lacerations and punctures fills in for character development. Veteran character actor William Sadler runs a few variations on the classic bad guy, and Parker introduces a mask-wearing, knife-wielding killer who's clearly meant to join the ranks of Jason and Pinhead and other slasher icons. Call him… Babyface! In other words, not terrible for a direct-to-DVD offering from the Dark Castle company, but not great. But a few hardy little beasts, though clearly terrified out of their wits get it into their heads that they can survive and even beat their attackers because this is their territory - they know places to hide that are (relatively) safe where they think they might be able to wait out the `orrible orcas! Well, a similar scenario is put before us in this numbingly boneheaded effort. How long can the cute little seals hold out against the overwhelmingly powerful, devastatingly voracious, heart-clenchingly vicious, highly evolved killing machines waiting to tear them apart, gobble them up and, in a few cases, rip off their heads before consuming them: a few minutes; a couple of hours at the most? No! A full 30 days! I don't know about anyone else but I find it tricky doing anything more complex than manipulating my keys to unlock my front door if the temperature drops one degree below zero for a few hours in broad daylight let alone trying to do it at 15 below in total darkness with a group of crazed super sensitive, super fast, super powerful vampires, who can see in the dark, nearby, trying to rip my head off. It was better than I thought it would be, though not fantastic. I certainly would not call this "the best vampire movie ever" as many others have. It's a pretty stereotypical horror movie really. It even follows your usual formula for who lives and dies. The character who wants to run off and leave someone else behind to die is the one who dies himself and then you have your run-of-the-mill hero who sacrifices himself along with your troubled, but reliable-when-it-matters leading man and tough, gun-wielding blonde leading lady. Just the same as almost every other movie of this type. The flaws in this film are: Wouldn't people eventually ask questions when every year an entire Alaskan town is wiped out in winter by a blood-sucking "fire"? I am assuming that the vampires have to eat at least once every year, so this would keep happening over and over. And where do the vampires buy all their business suits and silver moonboots? And why are they speaking the Mayan language from Apocalypto? And (the most important question) Why, oh why! Don't they actually drink any of the blood? They rip people's throats open and get as much of the blood as possible on the top of their own heads and they spill as much as they can all over the ground, but not one drop seems to ever get inside their fish-like, gaping maws. My final note: The high-pitched screaming noise they make at every turn = very annoying. Overall the movie is a solid C, possibly even a C-. I for one will point out if something doesn't make sense or if supposedly intelligent characters are repeatedly responding to impending doom and ungodly terror all DUI. I care about the set-up, whats at stake, the characters themselves (I always was facinated with the bad guys), and yes, the story. This is a mess and it's a shame. The premise rocks. It's so painfully obvious, how was this not already done years ago? You couldn't ask for a better setting. Dark, cold and isolated, as a previous reviewer pointed out. And I must say that some of the vamps looked eerie as hell. I couldn't rip my eyes away. Gorgeously evil, I mean really beautifully scary. A kind of deformed look with the eyes a bit too close together. Some of them looked normal like the boss vamp himself. Not so scary. But other than that it bit the dust. Just stupid as hell. Dumb moves by the heroes, vampires trying to be philisophical or just walking around hissing at each other (really annoying, the worst part of the whole deal). I wasted my money, watch it on t.v. Not kidding. Hit Amazon up for the graphic novels, much better. This adaption was a wasted effort. As far as I am aware, no such fate has befallen the great northern state. Based on the comic miniseries of the same name, "30 Days of Night" gives us a good look at what might happen if a vampire and a few of his undead friends would sink their fangs into the Land of the Midnight Sun. The film opens with the small town of Barrow, Alaska preparing for its month-long dive into darkness (hence the thirty days of night). Most of the town's citizens are heading for sunnier locations, but a select few stay behind and stick it out. In this small group is the local sheriff, Eben (Josh Hartnett). While everyone is getting ready to leave, he's busy investigating a number of strange criminal acts (burning of cellular phones, slaughtering sled dogs, etc.). As he digs deeper into his investigation, he arrests a stranger (Ben Foster) who begins to wax prophetic about someone or something coming and that no one will survive. Also staying behind (due to missing her flight) is Eben's estranged wife Stella (Melissa George). She assists Eben in arresting the stranger and goes with the pair to the sheriff's station where Eben's grandmother and brother are. As soon as the sun goes down, chaos reigns supreme. Eben goes to check on the local telephone office and discovers a brutal murder/decapitation. Scared, he heads back to town and warns those that stayed behind to hide in their homes. As it gets darker, more and more people begin to die. Soon the streets are filled with blood and snow as a gang of vampires feast on the townsfolk. A few survivors of the initial attack (including Eben and Stella) hole up in an attic and make plans to survive for the next month. The rest of the film shows the small group attempting to stay alive by using their knowledge of the town and the brutal snowfall to their advantage. Along the way, a few other survivors are picked apart by the vampire group which is headed up by Marlowe (Danny Huston). As supplies become scarce and time begins to wear on them, the survivors take more and more chances in order to stay alive. This leads up to an eventual standoff with the vampires. Who lives? Who dies? Who finally gets to see the rising sun? Watch "30 Days of Night" and you'll find out. The film's premise is great. It takes a legendary creature and puts in the one place that gives it seemingly every advantage over its victims. Isolated, cold, and in complete darkness, the average human would find it hard to survive with limited resources in such environs. Throw in a gaggle of bloodsucking immortals and you've really got problems. The film's special effects are very good as well. They are bloody, gory, and very realistic. The makeup department also did a very good job. Josh Hartnett's portrayal of Eben was very believable. Unlike the untouchable heroes in many films, he reacts to the initial vampire attacks with fear and confusion. I actually felt for his character as he tried to make sense of his situation. Melissa George is fairly convincing in her role as well. Mark Boone Junior nearly steals the show as Beau Brower, an unlikely hero in the film. Unfortunately, Steve Niles and Stuart Beattie's story drags along at times and lacks a really convincing enemy. Despite being the leader of the vampire gang and seemingly full of wisdom, Marlowe just isn't that scary. There's never a moment in this film where I looked at Danny Huston's character and thought, "There's no way they can stop this guy." Whether it was Huston's performance or the direction of Huston by David Slade, I felt that the weak villain was the film's greatest downfall. Despite this, I still recommend "30 Days of Night." While it isn't the best vampire film out there, it is much more loyal to its wicked origins than many of today's modern vampires. In a time where most bloodsuckers are busy courting teen girls or hanging out at Fangtasia, it's nice to see some truly evil vampires make their way out of the darkness.』 『Josh Harnett (Black Dahlia,Pearl Harbor) crosses over to the dark side in this bone-chilling adaptation of the cult-hit graphic novel, brought to the screen in all its demonic glory. The script, co-written by the source material's creator, Steve Niles, along withPirates of the Caribbean's Stuart Beattie andHard Candy's Brian Nelson), proudly wears its influences on its crimson-stained sleeve (Bram Stoker'sDracula, natch, but alsoSalem's Lot, Night of the Living Dead, and John Carpenter's version ofThe Thing) and boils down the graphic novels to a series of tense and extremely bloody standoffs between Harnett and George's band of survivors and the vaguely Slavic and ferocious bloodsuckers led by Marlow (a feral and frightening Danny Huston). And if the characters seem stock and the finale begs suspension of disbelief, the set pieces leading up to it are sufficiently supercharged with suspense and violence to please most horror fans. Calling himself Andre Linoge, he uses his supernatural powers to isolate the island from the rest of the world and force its citizens to commit suicide one by one. All the while he continues to make one cryptic demand: "Give me what I want and I'll go away." Constable Michael Anderson rushes to find out what this creature wants before the entire community vanishes forever as did the Roanoke Colony in 1590. "Storm of the Century" is my favorite Stephen King miniseries. The small, isolated island is the perfect setting for claustrophobic terror. Two-hundred people are trapped and at the mercy of a diabolical creature whose origin is never fully understood. Is Andre Linoge a demon or an alien? With his strong, chiseled face, Colm Feore ("Chronicles of Riddick") gives an excellent performance as Andre Linoge. Tim Daly ("Private Practice" television series) is wonderful as the likeable Michael Anderson. Debrah Farentino is perfect as his stubborn wife, Molly, who opposes him. The entire cast, including many extras, was well chosen and made me feel as if they were an actual community of fishermen. Perhaps the citizens of Little Tall represent mankind in general. After all, don't we all have dark secrets we don't want revealed? This miniseries is very provocative. How would we react in a similar situation? Would we give the creature whatever he wanted so that he would go away? I would hope that I would side with Michael Anderson. Yes, Andre Linoge is a creature that is more powerful than a man, but he is also less than a god as he clearly stated. Therefore, he can be defeated. Also, where is the people's faith that the God of all creation can help them? When facing a moral crisis, humans sometimes disregard their values. I have learned that choosing to do right can sometimes be very difficult. "Storm of the Century" is highly recommended for all Stephen King fans. It is a superb example of modern gothic horror. Stephen King has a great gift for thinking of entertainment that is absolutely terrific. In this movie a small town gets a winter storm of a different type. One they'll never forget, or talk about in the future. This is a must see movie! The story line is solid and easy to follow. The cast of actors fits this film perfectly. I can't think of a better way to express my feelings about the work of Stephen King, other than sharing with you a article I wrote about Stephen King that is all over the internet, including the personal website of a nationwide radio celebrity. Here it is. Compliments To Stephen King Being a very serious movie collector, I watch numerous movies in my free time. I've noticed not all writers have the same touch for the industry. Not saying of coarse some are better than others, but rather ... they differ greatly in the types of product they come up with. I am a huge fan of Stephen King films. This is evident by the presence of a Stephen King chapter in my website. Am I the kind of fan that wants to follow the man around and know everything about him, ... No, of course not. I do show a great respect for the enjoyable product he is capable of producing when it comes to the film industry. His work in my opinion is by no means a waste of money in any way, shape or form. The man has the mind for providing us with entertainment that will keep us coming back for more. I own numerous Stephen King films on DVD, ... I'm not disappointed at all with any of them. Night Flier, Thinner, Langoliers, Carrie, It, Sleepwalkers and of coarse two of my biggest favorites Storm, Of The Century, and The Stand just to name a few. There are a lot of films out there by Stephen King, and then there are a lot of films out there that were inspired by the work of Stephen King. I have noticed a couple of things with Stephen King films. He uniquely signs many of them by showing up in the film playing a small acting roll. Think about this for a minute. In Sleepwalkers he has a momentary roll that comes up as the caretaker. The langoliers he shows up in a momentary roll as a businessman at a conference table. In The Stand he plays a small part as the man driving the brown Ford Bronco. I can't think of any other way to describe this but `pure genius'. Another thing I noticed is the fact that it is very hard to find bloopers or mistakes in his films. I haven't found any. I'll use some other films as a example of what I'm talking about (without mentioning titles of course). A western film which I'm sure most of America has seen, ... in a scene showing the bust shot of two cowboys outdoors talking to each other, ... way off in the distance you can see the top two thirds of a eighteen wheeler crossing the background. The whole thing lasted about two seconds, but never the less it shows up. The first time I saw this, I thought it was hilarious. A vintage movie using a blimp to try and kill a stadium full of people. In the scene where they steal the blimp from the crew on the air field, ... as the blimp is lifting off, look at it's flat windshield, ... it gives a very clear reflection of the entire filming crew and all the equipment, cameras, and cables laying all over the place. A famous comedy trucker movie with a eighteen wheeler and a sports car being chased by a cop. In the scene where the sports car is speeding through front yards and knocking off mailboxes, ... as the female actor is looking out the rear window of the car, you can see the shadows of studio equipment shining through to the floor of the sports car. This particular film is full of stuff like this. Stephen King films, ... it is hard to look for flaws like this. This could only mean that Stephen King has a eye for great detail, that won't be compromised. He is very good at what he does. Stephen Kings Cujo actually comes very close to something that could happen in reality. This work shows that something like this is believable and possible. That's what kept me glued to the television as I watched this DVD. This film brings out a level of horror that is very gripping because it does come so close to reality. As with all of his work, a great pleasure to sit down and enjoy it. Earlier I mentioned that The Stand was one of my bigger favorites from Stephen King. The reason for this is the theme and story of the movie is in perfect taste for the entertainment of a person such as myself. A outstanding cast of actors, great background music and perfect stage sets. I couldn't think of a better cast of actors to star in this film. Each character seemed to be a perfect professional fit for the actor playing that roll. It worked out really well and produced a film that gets high praises from me, and I'm sure many others.
