(Not As Exciting As "Planet of the Dead" But Amusing Too)
『I think this special episode ("The Next Doctor") out on DVD was good but could have been more exciting like the next special "Planet of the Dead". Unfortunately, the suspense with the Cybermen was a bit lacking compared to the 2-part episodes ("Rise of Cybermen" and "The Age of Steel") from Season 2 with Rose Tyler. The ending was a letdown and totally a cop-out compared to the 2-parter from Season 2. But, the real twist is figuring out this new "Doctor" character played by David Morrissey. Yes, he was in "Basic Instinct 2" with Sharon Stone but at heart is a British actor deep in BBC productions. Hearing him talk with the REAL "Doctor" is a hoot and you will easily be won-over with his emotional rollercoaster ride. Cybermen are NOT scary in this special which is sad but I think writers were counting on the whole David against David banter to last for 60 minutes. If you are a true "Doctor Who" fan, then get it. If you are the occasional viewer, then check first with "Planet of the Dead" before "The Next Doctor". Also, I can't wait for "Waters of Mars" and "The End of Time" 2-parter season finale. I don't get the Dish but others can catch it on BBC America in December 19 for "Waters of Mars" and December 26 for the first part of "The End of Time". Also, you will find out who knocks 4 times.』

(Okay, but not as good as other Tenth Doctor episodes)
『The writing on this one just didn't seem as good as the rest of Season Four. Still good fun, though. I'd give it 3-and-a-half stars if I could.』

(The Next Doctor)
『I am a fan so it is hard to give a bad review, but I wish the Who team would have made season collections like seasons 1-3 instead of releasing the titles separately.』

(Brilliant!)
『I don't think this special is as good as other episodes, but it's still a good story and all the usual insanity and fun I've enjoyed so much watching The Doctor. A must for fans.』

(Bad precedent?)
『First off, let me say that if "The Next Doctor" has any shortcomings, it's not the fault of the actors. The two Davids (Tennant and Morrissey) give some really stellar work here; nuanced, passionate and believable. Morrissey, in particular, gives a much better performance than this deserves. I would recommend seeing this special solely for their performances alone. Even the actress who plays Rosita is delightful, and I wish we saw more of her in this episode. The actual story, however, reeks of wasted potential, even for 60 minutes. For a premise this grand, you really need two hours to properly present it all. Failing that, however, you could at least make this Cyberman adventure distinguishable from the others. Simply jacking up the awful musical score to downright-intrusive levels won't do the trick.

The revelation about the "next" Doctor's nature is revealed pretty early on, which deflates most of what follows. The Cybermen have learned a few new tricks, including the part-simian versions that are covered in fur, but we don't delve into exactly what they are or why the Cybermen are making them. To put it bluntly, the whole affair feels by-the-numbers. It begins with a haphazard murder mystery which turns out to be superfluous; yes, the Doctor will snoop around and find the answers instantly; yes, the Doctor will casually overpower the villain with little to no effort; yes, everyone fawns over the Doctor (the camera literally zooms in whenever someone even mentions his name) and thinks he's the greatest thing since ice cream. The only thing lacking is...well, a plot. The villain's motives and overall aim are taken for granted; she's evil, she wants to rule the world. What else is there to know?

Well, nothing much, if you're a kid. In fact, the series as a whole has been drifting further and further away from the mass appeal of the earlier seasons, and is now catered exclusively toward kids. And rather dim kids, at that; the script is overloaded with exposition, literally narrating the Doctor's every move, no matter how obvious it is to the viewer. I shudder to think what will become of this series once David Tennant's seasoned grasp of the character and his mannerisms have left the show, and the lead performances become as hollow as everything else.

『Christmas Eve, 1851, and the Cybermen stalk the snow of Victorian London. When the Doctor arrives and starts to investigate a spate of mysterious deaths, he's surprised to meet another Doctor and soon, the two must combine forces to defeat the ruthless Miss Hartigan. But are two Doctors enough to stop the rise of the CyberKing?』
『Broadcast under intense speculation as to whether it would lead to David Morrissey taking over the title role (he didn't),Doctor Who: The Next Doctoractually turned out to be a really enjoyable 2008 Christmas special for the show, crammed with action and ideas. The premise ofThe Next Doctor, that there are two Doctors on the go, is set up early, as David Tennant’s Doctor encounters Morrissey’s character wielding a screwdriver, talking of the TARDIS, and fighting foes. This allows Tennant to slip into the role of the assistant, and his double act with Morrissey is excellent, with the latter making the most of a meaty, evolving role.

Also winning the acting plaudits though is the villain of the piece, played by Dervla Kirwan. She’s scene-stealingly good here, and next to her, the returning Cybermen look surprisingly tame, even considering the surprises that the episode throws up as it enters its final act.The Next Doctorisn’t a perfect episode by any means, and the terrificChristmas Invasionis surely the best Yuletide installment to date. But it’s an entertaining, busy, and ambitious hour, and worth seeing for Morrissey and Kirwan alone.--Jon Foster

(Cool movie to wrap up the series. Not as good as the show, but I'm happy they did this for fans.)
『There's no way they could leave us hanging after the fourth season. I'm very glad they made this movie to wrap up the show.』

(Great escape)
『While I wish the series had not been cancelled, I glad that with this film they were able to wrap up the series.
Very enjoyable.』

(Wonderful Movie)
『This is a great movie to go with a wonderful series. My husband bought this for me. I don't think there has been a better sci fi show.』

(A good ending to a great series)
『The Peacekeeper Wars was a good ending to the series but feels rushed at times because in a few short hours it had to close a series that was supposed to have an entire 5th season instead.

That being said, everyone involved did a very good job. I greatly enjoyed the series finale, and hope you do to!』

(Phenomenal)
『What a finish! Each season got better and better. This was no let down. Well-written, acted, directed and produced. Wrapped up all the story arcs well. It's a shame the series had to end so abruptly, but this is a great wrap-up for all the Scapers who were left hanging. Definite must buy for any fan and entertaining with enough backstory for even the newest of viewers.』
『Studio: Lions Gate Home Ent. Release Date: 02/14/2006 Run time: 182 minutes Rating: Nr』
『Created at least in part due to popular demand,Farscape: The Peacekeeper Warswill provide some closure to fans who were dismayed by the demise of the popular science fiction television show in 2003 and campaigned mightily to bring it back. Indeed, this miniseries (originally broadcast over two nights on the Sci-Fi Channel) will likely appeal primarily to theFarscapefaithful, as the somewhat convoluted storyline may prove baffling to the uninitiated.

A brief bit of backstory explains how John Crichton, an astronaut from Earth, went through a wormhole and ended up on Moya, a living spaceship, with a motley group of aliens, including D'Argo (Anthony Simcoe), Chiana (Gigi Edgley), various puppet characters (designed by the Jim Henson Company), and Aeryn (Claudia Black), Crichton's love interest, who's expecting their first child. AsThe Peacekeeper Warsbegins, our heroes find themselves in the middle of a war-to-end-all-wars between the lizard-like, implacably evil Scarrans and their rivals, the Peacekeepers. Crichton is the lynchpin in all of this, as his knowledge of "wormhole technology" is coveted by all, including his old nemesis Scorpius (Wayne Pygram), who captured and tortured Crichton back in season 1 and with whom Crichton must now form an uneasy alliance against the Scarrans.

Over the course of the three-hour miniseries, we get lots of weird- and cool-looking aliens, some nice sets and special effects, plenty of battles, and lots of portentous talk about the fate of the universe--nothing especially original, but all presented with outstanding production values. There's drama and action, love and betrayal, tragedy and triumph, war and, ultimately, peace, with a suitably spectacular ending (and a nod to Stanley Kubrick's2001: A Space Odyssey). With a 30-minute "making of" documentary among the DVD special features,The Peacekeeper Warsis a fitting way to end theFarscapesaga.--Sam Graham

『The DVD I purchesed was great just as described will do business with seller again』

(the usual high quality)
『All SGA seasons have great packaging and tons of nifty features. The highlight of the S4 set is the addition of Amanda Tapping, who gets her own featurette and has commentaries on Lifeline, Tabula Rasa, and Trio. There's also the Stargate Atlantis Bloopers on disc 2.』

(Stargate Atlantis Season Four)
『Initially when I received this set, they would not play on my equiptment at all, Amazon was very good about replacing the set...did so&I recieved new set in a very timely manner however they like the 1st set would not play (sound was ok but picture looked confetti. Further investigation revieled that they would only play on newer equipment (purchased in the last 2 years I think) so I ended up upgrading my equiptment and also an upgrated version DVD Player for my computer. Once this was done, they were viewed and resutlts were excellent.』

(My favorite of the first four seasons of ATLANTIS)
『I'm currently engaged in a pretty exhaustive TV viewing project, one that will see me watching just about every major Sci-fi series made in the past few decades. Unfortunately I'm at a bad point in my project. I've already seen almost all of the shows that I've had reason to believe are better than average shows. I'm now left with the dregs.

Now, STARGATE ATLANTIS is hardly a "dreg" show. I watched the first three seasons as they were coming out, until I became disenchanted with the series, in particular with the increasingly reliance on standalone episodes and on poor character development (i.e., lack of character development). I was also concerned about the show because of the elimination from the show of Paul McGillion, who played Dr. Carson Beckett, one of the more interesting characters on the show. Also, Tori Higginson, who had played head of the Atlantis Project Dr. Elizabeth Weir for three years, was planned to depart the show. Despite the addition of Jewel Staite, who I had loved on FIREFLY, I suddenly found myself uninterested in watching the show any longer.

I'm delighted to learn that not only was Season Four not a decline in the quality of STARGATE ATLANTIS, it was actually the most interesting season of the first four of the show. Part of the reason was the replacement of Tori Higginson with Amanda Tapping, who reprised her role from SG-1 of Samantha Carter, sadly available with the ending of that show. I never disliked Higginson, but I never felt that she brought much gravitas to her character (she also bore a disconcerting similarity to an ex-girlfriend of mind, which I personally found oddly distracting). But the main reasons I found myself enjoying Season Four more than the previous seasons were a significant abandonment of the standalone format and the interesting inclusion of a wraith (Todd) as a recurring character. In fact, apart from the third episode of the season, most of the first 13 or 14 episodes of the season were tied to the main overall arc. Only in the final third of the season did a number of standalone episodes creep back into the mix. The overall result was a dramatic improvement in the quality of the show's narrative. Christopher Heyerdahl had played a variety of wraith characters in the first two seasons of ATLANTIS. Then in Season Three came one of the best episodes in the entire series, in which Shepperd is imprisoned with a wraith (whom the Atlanteans later name Todd), who to keep from starving gradually drains Shepperd of life. The two cooperate in escaping from their prison and over the course of the final two seasons Todd would provide an interesting character, often making an odd colleague in advancing causes that were in the interests of both humans and wraiths. In one alternative future, Todd and Ronon even die a heroic death together, teaming up to kill their common enemy. I've always had a love for characters that defy surface expectations. On BUFFY I loved Angelus for being the completely evil doppelganger of the incredibly good Angel, and then later the utterly evil Spike gradually transforming (even before he gains a soul) an increasingly decent character. Almost always Todd's presence in an episode means a good episode.

Also in Season Four there was an increase in the quality of the special effects. I'm not terribly conversant on CGI, but I do know that at about the same time the special effects on just about all CGI-heavy shows dramatically improved, led by BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. I'm assuming that there may only be one CGI software package catering to customers at this level. I imagine that the small handful of F/X companies all get the latest upgrade at about the same time. In the 1990s there was a very small market for CGI and you could tell from the way that it was used on TV that it was very pricey. Because much of it was custom, there was a dramatic difference from the way that it was used on one show and on another. There are still differences. Although they are certainly using the same software programs, on STARGATE ATLANTIS the CGI shots are very clear and crisp, featuring panoramic shots fairly distance from the objects of interest. On BATTLESTAR GALACTICA you get very complex shots. In Season Four of BSG, for instance, you might get a super close up of the Galactica, with a large hunk of the fleet in the background, the whole shot not centered from an ideal observer's point of view, but from what you would see if you were in a spaceship very close to Galactica. In ATLANTIS the visual field is uncluttered, with no cosmic dust or anything else to impair perfect clarity of picture. On BSG there are often vast clouds of cosmic dust that causes a complex diffusion of light from a nearby nebula. Both shows feature photo realistic CGI, but the uncluttered clarity of ATLANTIS shows a different set of priorities with the more complex version of BSG (and for the record, I much prefer the CGI on BSG, which I believe represents the highest achievement so far of what can be achieved with CGI on TV).

All in all, I really enjoyed Season Four. I am only now getting around to watching Season Five (the DVDs come out later this month, but friends showed me some sites that stream the individual episodes) so I don't know how it will compare with Season Four, but I definitely prefer Season Four more than any of the first three. I now definitely regret that I stopped watching ATLANTIS. Now that I'm watching many shows that I have little confidence in to be any good (I just recently managed to grit my way through ANDROMEDA and fairly soon need to force myself to watch all of LEXX, concerning which I still haven't heard anything to make me at all optimistic), discovering how good ATLANTIS was in the season after I gave up on it has been a very pleasant surprise.

『Replicators and Wraith. ZPMs and hyperdrives. Good guys, bad guys, and guys who could go either way. They’re all on hand for the fourth season (originally aired in 2007-08) ofStargate Atlantis, still one of television’s finest sci-fi shows. There are a number of new developments in the course of this 20-episode run. The first is the departure of leader Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson), who’s gone from the team by the third episode, replaced by Col. Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping, who will be familiar toStargate SG-1fans after her long stint on that now-defunct series); seems Weir’s body contains “nanites,” the elements that make up the “sentient machines” known as the Replicators, which leads to her making a supreme sacrifice on behalf of her fellow humans. (Speaking of the Replicators, these bad boys are so formidable a threat to the entire known universe that even the Wraith--the cat-eyed, white-haired, weird-skinned, vampire-like Johnny Winter lookalikes who feed on humans--fear them, resulting in a rather fraught, on-again-off-again alliance with the Stargaters. Unfortunately, the Replicator-Wraith showdown, which could have made Godzilla v. Megalon looklike a game of tag, isn’t exploited to nearly the degree one might have wished for.)

Meanwhile, the team’s personal lives are examined more closely this time, as Teyla (Rachel Luttrell) becomes pregnant, dreadlocked beefcake dude Ronon (Jason Momoa) considers rejoining his original tribe, irreverent hero Lt. Col. John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan) returns to Earth for his father’s funeral (where he runsinto his ex-wife and estranged brother), and genius scientist Dr. Rodney McKay (David Hewlett, a good actor whose character’s incessant glass-half-empty, pessimistic whining is getting a bit old by now) once again meets up with his sister, who also made an appearance in Season Three. Overall, thefourth season contains several terrific stories (like “Adrift,” in which the entire city of Atlantis heads into space in search of a new home planet, “Tabula Rasa,” in which the crew is infected with amnesia, and “Trio,” described by its creators as the most logistically complex episodeof the entire series), and a smattering that aren’t so hot. As always,Atlantishas terrific special effects, sets, and action (this show ain’t cheap to produce, and it shows), plenty of wit (Sheppard, upon being served a strange-looking meal by his captors: “Is that a form of torture?”), and a very generous selection of bonus features, which include commentaries for every episode, featurettes, and photo galleries.--Sam Graham

(storyline easier to follow)
『Since getting the collection of HP years 1-5, I've been able to watch each movie and understand the saga a bit easier. Occassionaly on tv a particular channel would be having a HP weekend special, but I wasen't always able to watch. Now that I have the DVD's I can view and review however often I desire.』

(I like it)
『Nice to have them all together. I enjoy the series and also bought a book set. If you are a Harry Potter fan, I would recommend both』

(Good but not great)
『I enjoyed watching the Harry Potter films on TV and was irritated by commercial interruptions. I discovered when I ordered Prisoner of Askaban that there had been parts left out of the TV version so when I saw the boxed set, I ordered that expecting to have other cut elements restored. Quite the opposite. There are even more parts of the stories cut, which makes this set more of a made for commercial TV presentation.

If you want "the rest of the story," I guess you'll have to buy it piece by piece. The boxed set in wide screen format has chunks missing, which if you've seen the film more than once, you'll notice.

It's a bargain price and for a good reason.』

(exceeded my expectations)
『i thought all the movies would be in one case (which i was going to live with for THAT price) but to my delightful surprise, each are in its own separate case WHICH I LOVE because i wanted my 2 yr. old to run and pick a movie she wanted to watch and this way its EASIER!! so THANX for the SWEETEST deal ever for 5 great movies!!!』

(Awesome!!!)
『I'm so happy with this product! I couldn't wait to see it delivered at my house! My son, who is 10, is starting to read the books, so it is with pleasure that we've been watching the movies together!!! All the movies are working wonderfully and the packaging make it easy to put away! Great deal!』

(ANOTHER SMASH!)
『This is the second installment of LOONEY TUNES GOLDEN COLLECTION series. Like the first it offers four DVDS, each of which has a theme. This time around, there is an extra cartoon per disc, so we get 60 cartoons instead of the 56 in VOLUME 1. However, not all the cartoons are in color this time. Two are in black-and-white.

Like the first set, the first disc exclusively features Bugs Bunny. It's not as good as the first one, though, as it is mostly comprised of pre-1948 shorts(I personally like the post-1948 ones). But people who prefer these earlier cartoons will enjoy this disc.

The second disc is mostly devoted to the Road Runner and Coyote. Unlike in the first set, where we were treated to only one Road Runner cartoon, here we get eleven, as well as the unaired pilot "The Adventures of the Road Runner." The rest of the disc is made up of various other Chuck Jones films. Overall the disc is excellent.

The third disc stars Sylvester and Tweety in nine of their best cartoons. The rest of the disc is somewhat uneven, ranging from Chuck Jones' bland "Old Glory" to Bob Clampett's masterpiece "Porky in Wackyland."

The fourth disc is a mixed bag of various Looney Tunes characters. It contains some very good cartoons ("Show Biz Bugs") and some not-so-good ones ("Katnip Korner"). It also corrects an oversight: It contains "One Froggy Evening" and "What's Opera, Doc?", two classic cartoons conspicuously missing from VOLUME 1.

Overall this volume is not as good as the first one, but when coupled with it. It comprises the very best of the Looney Tunes. This series went to produce four more boxes, but none of the subsequent sets had the power of the first two as a set. (Except perhaps the Bugs Bunny disc from VOLUME 4, which should have been on this set, but we can't have it all, can we?)』

(Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 2)
『I haven't watched all of the discs yet, but got this item so my kids could watch some "real" cartoons. The cartoons and shorts are very entertaining. I would love to get volume 1, but it is still too expensive. This was a lot cheaper and still had many of the cartoons that I remember watching as a child.』

(Introduce Your E-Kids to Real Cartoon Entertainment)
『Many positive reviews already that I can validate with my purchase. These are the great cartoons your local TV stations ran in the afternoons back in the 50's and 60's; the cartoons that led off the movies at the theatres back then, as well as the great Saturday morning cartoons. They are timeless and even though your kids are into the electronics and super hero stuff today, this is material you will surely enjoy together.

My seven year old and I just load up into the big chair and enjoy!

Lots of road runner cartoons in this volume for those of you that enjoyed those so much like me.』

(Wrong)
『OK, everybody knows how great WB Looney Tunes can be, but who wants a huge catalogued selection like this? It may be fine for the archives or those collectors who enjoy having everything alphabetized and sitting on their shelf for the world to see, but seldom take the thing down to enjoy it. And that's the problem with this set. First cartoon on disc one "The Big Snooze" should have been the title for this whole set, disc one and four excluded. Yes, disc 1's Bugs Bunny Masterpieces are just that - and nobody minds watching consecutive Bugs cartoons. It's only when we reach Disc 2 that the whole thing starts taking a dive bomb and really starts to show just how stupid an idea it was to keep each character on one disc. While that may be ok for Bugs Bunny, it is definitely NOT ok for 15 consecutive Road Runner (and friends) cartoons. Please! Who can stand so much inanity in one serving? Then there's Tweety and Sylvester on Disc Three - most of these cartoons follow the same routine as Road Runner coyote schtick and it's just maddening to have to sit through cartoon after cartoon of the same theme and characters. To be honest, I am not a Tweety fan though Sylvester can be great - for an excellent selection of Sylvester cartoons, the disc dedicated to Cats in Looney Tunes 4 is a genuine riot - unlike the schlock on this set. OK, maybe that's too strong. The Merry Melodies on disc 4 are cool, but shouldn't have been put back to back as they do in the first 8 episodes. Seriously, the organizing of the episodes on the discs this way was a very unpractical and unappetizing way to serve up the Looney Tunes.

PS - Actually, it's hard to beleive this is going for under $13 new right now. That is a GREAT DEAL and completely worth it if for no other reason than disc one, which has 15 Bugs Bunny cartoons on it, most of which are excellent and classic Bugs, and disc 4 which also has some great episodes. Consider the other 2 discs 'bonus' and that's a steal! Actually, to be fair to disc 4, episodes 9 - 15 are all excellent, four of them Bugs cartoons, peaking with episode 14, "What's Opera, Doc" where Fudd's Viking character has a magic hat which can summon the forces of nature to 'kill the wabbit'. The wabbit, for his part, has no qualms about transforming himself into a beautiful she-viking pwincess that seduces Fudd - until he discovers the shocking twuth. Utterly hilarious!』

(Memories)
『This is the second series I have purchased for my married 37 year old son. He asked for these for a Christmas present for himself. They have had a child and want to pass this on to him. These cartoons are memories of when he was a little boy, he and I would sit every Saturday morning to watch them. I'm sure I will be ordering more.』
『Greetings, Looneytics! For all who rightly place Looney Tunes alongside Mom, apple pie and web-surfing at work as American institutions, this is your time to rise and shine and watch. Yes, here on 4 discs you'll find 60 more of the finest, funniest, bestest Golden Era cartoons from the feverishly bent artistic minds at Termite Terrace. Disc 1 showcases a certain wascally wabbit. The happiness of pursuit is center stage in Disc 2 and 3's respective batches of Road Runner and Sylvester/Tweety fun. Disc 4 is an all-star cavalcade of Hollywood parodies and more. All 60 toons are restored, remastered, uncut. And each disc is chock-a-block with bonus goodies. It's a 24-carrot gem of a collection. Anything less would be dethpicable.』
『Brash, fast-paced, and hysterically funny, the Warner Brothers cartoons rank among the undisputed treasures of American animation and American comedy. This second collection, a follow-up toLooney Tunes: Golden Collection, includes such gems as "Porky in Wackyland," "A Bear for Punishment," "Gee Whiz-z-z," The Great Piggy Bank Robbery," and "I Love to Singa." A short documentary about director Bob Clampett features several cartoon historians, animator Eric Goldberg,Shawshank Redemptiondirector Frank Darabont, andRen and Stimpycreator John Kricfalusi (enthusiastic but over the top). But Warners continues its scattergun approach to selecting films. There are only eight cartoons by Clampett in the set, plus three by Tex Avery and one by Frank Tashlin. "Rabbit Fire" and "Rabbit Seasoning" appear on the first set, but the third cartoon in Jones's trilogy, "Duck! Rabbit! Duck!" isn't on either. More than two-thirds of the films are by Friz Freleng and Chuck Jones. That's not necessarily a bad thing. "Show Biz Bugs," "Bugs Bunny Rides Again," and the Oscar-winning "Tweety Pie" showcase Freleng's razor-sharp timing. "What's Opera, Doc," "The Dover Boys," and the justly celebrated "One Froggy Evening" rank among Jones's boldest experiments and most brilliant successes.

Volume Twoincludes some genuine rarities, among them, "Sinkin' in the Bathtub" (1930), the first Looney Tune, and the Oscar-winning documentary "So Much for So Little." With 60-plus cartoons, transferred from good printsLooney Tunes: Golden Collection, Volume 2is a collection to treasure. (Rated G, suitable for all ages: cartoon violence)--Charles Solomon

(The Beginning of the End...)
『The beginning of the end of the best television series I've ever seen. Season 4 picks up immediately after Season 3's awesome finale without skipping a beat and proceeds to blow us away more and more. One of the coolest things about Battlestar Galactica is that unlike many other TV series, whereby the third or fourth season, we just watch it out of habit or to see what happens, Battlestar keeps giving us more and more of a reason to watch. The action and drama don't stop and we are drawn in even more than before as new revelations come about. Another thing I particularly enjoy about Battlestar is that the mysteries are cool and pretty clever, unlike some shows like LOST, where they seem to be tacked-on and have no backbone. The character development continues on as well, seeing our favorites take unexpected turns, twists and even drops. I had better stop here and just say that this a very worthwhile purchase. While it is unfortunate that the box sets for Seasons 2 and 4 were split into two, making us pay more to get them, the show is so good it makes up for it... at least for me. Enjoy.』

(Getting to Earth)
『Season 4 of the Battlestar Galactica remake begins with a bang and ends with a whimper. The first episode begins with Starbucks' miraculous return to the fleet. Quickly we see the murder of Cally, the growing friendship of Galen and Balter, Baltar's admission of guilt over the destruction of the colonies, and Baltar's growing cult-like status. The final episode ends with a whimper as the fleet reaches Earth, only to discover that it has been ravaged by nuclear war. Taken together, this season probably has more major events packed into such few episodes than any of the other episodes. It is quite a testimony to the skills and abilities of the writers and directors. Along the way, we have several great space battles, several key betrayals, and an illicit relationship between Tigh and a Six model. This is a great viewing experience that combines drama, comedy, suspense, action and fantasy. But this is not what makes this a great series. No, what makes this a great series are the well-crafted illusions to mythology, religion and history. First, the voyage to Earth parallels the spread of monotheism within the fleet led by Baltar, a former farmer from a poor colony who is ashamed of his past and heritage. Second, we have a growing disenchantment with the leadership of the fleet as represented by President Roslin and Admiral Adama. Together, they blends Moses's trek thru the desert with the gradual conversion of the Roman Empire from paganism to Christianity. Then there is the return of Starbuck, a resurrection by any definition of the word, and her guidance fo the fleet to Earth. And most importantly, Hera, the union of human and cylon, and the visions that surround her by both humans and cylons. All told, quite a show and probably the year's best TV series.』

(Battlestar Galactica)
『My purchase arrived in a timely manner, packaging was exactly as described and in working order.』

(Battlestar Galactica, Season 4.0)
『Battlestar Galactica is one of the best Si- Fi series that I have seen. It is extremely well written and most enjoyable to watch. I really got involved in the lives of the characters and look forward to what happens next. I did not see this series on TV, but was turned-on to it by my adult Daughter- through the DVD's. I can't wait to see the final season!』

(This went a direction I didn't expect)
『I did not see season 4 of BSG so I bought the series and began watching it from the beginning (having watched the first 3 seasons on broadcast TV) because I hadn't seen any BSG episodes since the end of the third season. Without going into details (others surely have already done this), I'll give you the synopsis to help you decide.

As this season opened up, a little review and then onward and upward. I was floored at the revelations of the "final five", quite unexpected, and some of the twists and turns as a result ere quite well thought out. The story arc moved forward at a reasonable pace, but in some places seemed a bit rushed and left some things dangling.

But regardless, this first half of the season was quite engaging and the level of production remains high and consistent. The writing, too, was very good, though sometimes it fell into a bit of a rut in the stereotyping of reactions and was a bit predictable in some ways. However, that doesn't deter from the overall story and its progression.

The extras were a bit weak in some ways, and sometimes seemed pointless. But that is typical in many ways. I don't buy series for their extras, though when they are well thought out, they do add to the overall understanding.

I also got 4.5 so I'll review that as well.』

(An old-time comedy - with all the goods and bads that come with it; a pretty good DVD edition)
『Young Frankenstein is certainly a classic film, and I feel somewhat bad about giving it only 3 stars. The film shows its age, not in the jokes themselves, but in the way they are delivered. I've never liked films that wink too much at the audience, and Young Frankenstein winks constantly - especially Igor, but also the monster and others. I found that every time this happened, I was taken out of the movie and reminded that I was watching something, which was distracting and ultimately causes me to remove one star. The other star is removed because, well, it's not The Producers, which is, for my money, a better (and funnier!) film.

A plot synopsis is probably not required, as the film is a spoof-homage (almost equal parts each) of the various Golden-Age Frankenstein films. Young Dr. Frankenstein ("It's pronounced Fronk-en-steen") is ashamed of his famous anscestor until he learns he is the sole heir to the family's estates. He arrives in Transylvania and finds Igor ("It's pronounced Eye-gore") and the original doctor's book "How I Did It". He resolves to build his own monster to prove that with a good brain it would give a good monster. Unfortunately, Igor screws up and we're left with the standard grunting and homocidal monster. This does lead to the two greatest set-pieces in the film, however: Frankenstein and the monster performing "Putting on the Ritz" and the monster's visit to a blind and clumsy hermit monk. These scenes are laugh-out-loud funny even on repeated viewings, and it all depends on the performance of Peter Boyle as the monster. In fact, Boyle's and Teri Garr's (as the ditzy lab assistant) performances are the best in the film.

This is a fine DVD edition - Mel Brook's audio commentary is surprisingly interesting and informative. It's especially good to hear him admit his mistakes (he wanted to cut the 'Putting on the Ritz' scene) and other inside information. Less interesting are the deleted scenes (most are not that funny, although I liked the "Reading of the will" cut scene). The outtakes are mostly people laughing and ruining the shot, so get boring quickly. The audio and video are very crisp and clean, probably better than the original run film prints!』

(Young Frankenstein)
『This is an incredibly funny movie! I recommend this to anyone with a love of funny horror! Peter Boyle and Gene Wilder are hilarious!』

(Buy the Blu-ray NOW! Greatly improved over the DVD.)
『Not sure what some were looking at, but there is no comparison between the DVD
and this Blu-ray. I looked at my DVD, and there was very heavy compression.
I'd go so far as to say it looked like crap.

This Blu-ray looks great. If you love this movie,
you'll enjoy this Blu-ray.

There are people complaining about the grain.
It's on the DVD too. With HD, it'll be more noticeable,
as the higher detail allows more of the natural film grain
to be visible. But it looks normal to me.

Glad to see this classic on Blu-ray.』

(Young Frakenstein Condition of DVD)
『I thought the product was exactly what I was looking for and there weren't any problems with the condition of the DVD and all specifications for the DVD's condition were mentioned in the write-up about the product.』

(Who doesn't love this movie.)
『It's a good movie, what else is there to say.
If you're thinking about buying it, just buy it, you won't be disappointed.』

『If you were to argue that Mel Brooks'sYoung Frankensteinranks among the top-ten funniest movies of all time, nobody could reasonably dispute the claim. Spoofing classic horror in the way that Brooks's previous filmBlazing Saddlessent up classic Westerns, the movie is both a loving tribute and a raucous, irreverent parody of Universal's classic horror filmsFrankenstein(1931) andBride of Frankenstein(1935). Filming in glorious black and white, Brooks re-created theFrankensteinlaboratory using the same equipment from the originalFrankenstein(courtesy of designer Kenneth Strickfaden), and this loving attention to physical and stylistic detail creates a solid foundation for nonstop comedy. The story, of course, involves Frederick Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) and his effort to resume experiments in re-animation pioneered by his late father. (He's got some help, since dad left behind a book titledHow I Did It.) Assisting him is the hapless hunchback Igor (Marty Feldman) and the buxom but none-too-bright maiden Inga (Teri Garr), and when Frankenstein succeeds in creating his monster (Peter Boyle), the stage is set for an outrageous revision of the Frankenstein legend. With comedy highlights too numerous to mention, Brooks guides his brilliant cast (also including Cloris Leachman, Madeline Kahn, Kenneth Mars, and Gene Hackman in a classic cameo role) through scene after scene of inspired hilarity. Indeed,Young Frankensteinis a charmed film, nothing less than a comedy classic, representing the finest work from everyone involved. Not one joke has lost its payoff, and none of the countless gags have lost their zany appeal. From a career that includes some of the best comedies ever made, this is the film for which Mel Brooks will be most fondly remembered. Befitting a classic, the Special Edition DVD includes audio commentary by Mel Brooks, a "making of" documentary, interviews with the cast, hilarious bloopers and outtakes, and the original theatrical trailers. No video library should be without a copy ofYoung Frankenstein. And just remember--that'sFronkensteen.--Jeff Shannon

(A little long!)
『Loved this movie, especially Brad Pitt's part. ran a little long with some slow scenes, i think they could have shortened it a bit. although i do not regret purchasing.』

(poor quality)
『The item arrived in a timely fashion. The first 45 minutes played very well with good picture quality, but after the 45 minutes the DVD begin to freeze then showed video artifacts on the screen eventually the DVD just froze and would not play. I removed the DVD and cleaned it very thoroughly and played it again, but the results were the same. contacted the seller and requested a refund and they provided a full refund. Very unhappy and the DVD has no useful purpose. It is not playable.』

(Trying to be too much, with too little.)
『Felt like a Forest Gump type of movie, without the humor or compelling storyline. The movie encapsulates every sense of the word dull, and while an interesting concept, the overdrawn length of the movie coupled with a daily regret I now have for loosing 3 hours of my life while watching this forces me to hand it a 2 star rating. There are movies made so you don't have to think, and movies made to provoke thought and discourse. This movie promotes a drab, dry in between that leaves you wondering what else might have been accomplished during the time it took to watch the movie.』

(Bored to tears!)
『I am sorry Brad Pitt, but this was wholy dissapointing. I guess if you look at the acting, I woudl say it was a good movie, but when you look at everything, it just bored. The story was interesting and worth-while, BUT there was no climax and no excitement. I guess nto every movie needs a giagntic fireworks and bombs climax, but really? I felt like I was watchign a doctor try to revive a dead patient....it just wasn't happening. All in all this movie realllllly failed to impress me.』

(Riveting)
『This is a long, slow movie, but it is quite astonishing.

At first, there is a little smugness at the general concept: a man is born old and grows younger with time.

But the movie quickly transcends its gimmick-premise, and becomes by turns tragic, and touching, and illuminating, and funny, and amazing, and quietly wonderful.

Brad Pitt's quiet performance is a perfect counterpoint to Cate Blanchett's hyper frenzy. You can see how these two attract each other. You can also see how Button (Pitt) would be attracted to the unfulfilled, still-waiting, always-wanting-to-conquer-the-Channel character played by Tilda Swinton.

He himself is also waiting, for something neither he nor anyone else can envision.

And so the movie works subtly to give a powerful sensation of what it feels like to be alive: things happening that are profound, moving, silly, heartbreaking, wonderful, sad, ordinary, unexpected, shocking--all coming into your life, and then moving away like a ship on the horizon.

The fact that the two principal characters' life-arcs are opposite--Blanchett getting older and more sedate, Pitt getting younger and more lively--and can only meet for a touching, tragic moment, is both terribly romantic and exactly right.

This is the way things work. Nothing lasts.

But, as the lightning-victim says, every day things come along that make it wonderful to be alive.

A profound, interesting, very unusual movie.

It is also quite tricky. There are subtle, and sometimes not-so-subtle, hints of reincarnation (the hummingbird). But, very satisfyingly, the whole plot is shifted forward in time and ends with the cataclysm of Hurricane Katrina slamming into New Orleans, destroying, or seeming to destroy, this entire cycle of death-and-rebirth.

Powerful, puzzling, sublime.

『A MAN WHO IS BORN IN HIS EIGHTIES AND AGES BACKWARDS A MAN WHO IS UNABLE TO STOP TIME.』
『The technical dazzle ofThe Curious Case of Benjamin Buttonis a truly astonishing thing to behold: this story of a man who ages backwards requires Brad Pitt to begin life as a tiny elderly man, then blossom into middle age, and finally, wisely, become young. How director David Fincher--with makeup artists, special-effects wizards, and body doubles--achieves this is one of the main sources of fascination in the early reels of the movie. The premise is loosely borrowed from an F. Scott Fitzgerald story (and bears an even stronger resemblance to Andrew Sean Greer's novel The Confessions of Max Tivoli), with young/old Benjamin growing up in New Orleans, meeting the girl of his dreams (Cate Blanchett), and sharing a few blissful years with her until their different aging agendas send them in opposite directions. The love story takes over the second half of the picture, as Eric Roth's script begins to resemble his work on Forrest Gump. This is too bad, because Benjamin's early life is a wonderfully picaresque journey, especially a set of midnight liaisons with a Russian lady (Tilda Swinton) in an atmospheric hotel. Fincher observes all this with an entomologist's eye, cool and exacting, which keeps the material from getting all gooey. Still, the Hurricane Katrina framing story feels put-on, and the movie lets Benjamin slide offscreen during its later stages--curious indeed.--Robert Horton

(A random&twisted P&P romp that had this Jane Austen purist in stitches!)
『Wow, so I must say that I am a Jane Austen purist: I don't read any of the continuation books, because I want to keep Jane Austen's wonderful characters in her masterpiece, 'Pride&Prejudice' in their natural, meant-to-be state, and not confuse them.

I don't know why I choose to pick this up, but I am SO glad I did: maybe because in my mind I already seperate books and movies...movies are often inspired by books or are edited versions of books, or are completely different, so I think of them seperately. 'Lost in Austen' was a hilarious&refreshing Jane Austen romp: you just have to have fun with it!

As far as content goes, I will watch it again shortly and come back&update this, but I don't recall much beyond a little language and maybe some sensual sitations: things like an unmarried couple living together in the modern world, etc. It's reasonably family-friendly:

The actors were great, Darcy was absolutely smoldering at times: when Amanda takes Lizzie's place, her modern clothes, language, actions&that song (you know what I mean!) are quite funny! If it were I that was pulled back into that world, I feel I would have fit in better: the twists on characters stories, and on their character itself, was more amusing than disturbing: just think of this as a fun, random, not-true film and you won't mind that the story is a bit skewed: you'll be too busy rolling on the floor laughing ~ definitely recommend!』

(MUST HAVE for any Austen Fan!)
『This movie isn't for anyone with bad lungs, because I nearly died laughing while watching this movie! It really takes the spirit and the feel of all the other Austen movies and does what any fan has ever wanted to do and puts you in the story. If your a die-hard that is worried about people messing with the book, don't worry, you can really tell as you watch this movie that the cast and crew are also fans and they have treated the original story with respect and love. I love this movie so much and it will leave you cracking up hours after it's over!』

(Fancy meeting you here.....)
『There's nothing deep or literary about Lost in Austen. It's a time travel tale that incorporates all the standard glitches, as 21st century Amanda tries to navigate her way around the style and conventions of the 19th century. Because she curls up with Austen every time she feels stressed, Amanda knows what should be happening in this strange new (old) world, but somehow, the characters simply won't behave as planned.

If not taken too seriously, this foray into Pride and Prejudice is delightful. It's genuinely entertaining to watch well known and loved characters adopt wills of their own. Jemima Rooper as Amanda is spot on, as she struggles to speak and conduct herself in accordance with Regency mores. Elliot Cowan makes a fine Mr. Darcy, although at times he seems to be channeling Heathcliff instead, and Tom Mison as Mr. Bingley threatens to upstage Darcy at several points. Supporting cast members are equally true to form. The scenery is stunning, and costumes reflect proper period detail, despite their rather muted colors.

Lost in Austen is a sweet, frothy romance that pays tribute to the original while providing a throughly modern twist. A pleasant way to while away a rainy afternoon.』

(Great Movie!)
『I love this movie because it's like someone said "hey we all love Jane Austin but lets mix it up a little bit, create a little choas". As long as this movie is I can't ever just watch part of it, I have to watch the whole thing. The characters are much more exaggerated than the original films, which is actually a lot of fun. For a being a remake with a twist this is actually a really fun movie to watch.』

(So good!)
『I love all of Jane Austen's works and have seen many of the film adaptations. My favorite though has to be BBC's Pride and Prejudice Miniseries with Colin Firth. Anyway, this movie is hilarious. Their vision of Wickham is so funny and different. I wasn't the biggest fan of the ending at first, but now that I've seen it a few times, I think differently.
But this is a definite watch just because it's a new way to see the movie.』

『Amanda Price is sick of the modern world. She yearns for the romance and elegance found in the books by her favorite author, Jane Austen. But she's about to get a rude awakening as one fateful evening, she is propelled into the scheming 19th century world of Pride and Prejudice while that book's Elizabeth Bennet is hurled into hers. As the book's familiar plot unfolds, Amanda triggers new romantic twists and turns within the Bennet family circle as she clumsily tries to help the sisters nab husbands and even captivates the tantalizing Mr. Darcy herself. But what about Elizabeth...and what will become of one of the world's greatest love stories?

(BIG TROUBLE)
『This is one of those movies you watch when you just want to laugh, how can you not laugh with Kurt Russell, lipstick smeared all over his face from kissing Kim Cattral and talking to a near immortal chinese guy about dealing with women.』

(BTILC)
『I can't say enough good things about the BD release of this movie. As a diehard long time fan of Carpenter and Russell, this movie is total eye-candy. BD video is excellent+, and the sound is amazing. Just check out the scene when the three Storms first appear in the "Chinese Standoff". High level of detail is evident throughout the movie, terrific color balance, and the soundtrack is a superior upgrade from the SD release. Highly recommended.』

(Best version yet)
『Had this flick in VHS, two versions of DVD and now Blu-ray. The special edition DVD was very good, but the Blu-ray is significantly better IF you have a set up that can take full advantage of the improvements in A/V presentation.』

(Back in Time...)
『I remember going to see this movie at the theater when I was about 12 years old, we didn't think it would be any good but since there was nothing else playing we went and seen it anyway. The movie ended up being one of my all time favorite movies, I guess we treasure what we grew up as evident with this movie, it may have gotten poor reviews at it's release, but it will always be one of the best childhood movies for me.

As for the Bluray version better than DVD (obviously) but I fell it could have been cleaned up some more compared to the classics.』

(This John Carpenter movie has it all!)
『If you've ever heard of the director John Carpenter, you'll be familiar with his work like Halloween, Escape From New York, The Thing, etcetera, and this movie, a mid 80`s classic starring none other than Carpenter's favorite front man, Kurt Russell. The movie is set in San Francisco's Chinatown, its a modern day fable of good versus evil, Chinese black magic, the hero storms the castle type affair.

Russell plays Jack Burton, a wise cracking long distance truck driver passing through Chinatown on some business. After a card game with old friend Wang Chi (Dennis Dun), Wang (now penniless thanks to Burrton's good fortune) persuades Jack to drive him to the airport, to pick up his childhood sweetheart. Its here the story begins, Wang's girlfriend, is captured by a mysterious gang. The two form a pact to rescue the girl from the clutches of the evil Lo Pan, former crime lord of Chinatown, a myth who has apparently lived to the age of almost 200, with a little help from some black magic.

That's it; I don't want to spoil it. And certainly you've probably seen the movie anyway. For me this is a great movie that I had the chance to see it at my cousins house when I was growing up, and may be that's why I have such good memories of it.

It's hard to pick a favorite John Carpenter film, but this one has it all. It's a great action movie, a great comedy, an original story, great lines, and even a love story (if you needed anyway), a perfect blend of what big screen entertainment should be. It's strange though, that the ending was left so open, begging for a sequel that was never made.

Some may say this is a great renter or rainy day movie station choice, I don't agree, if you are a John Carpenter film fan this is a must have, there is lots of action mixed with a gentle humor that will have you smiling and chuckling rather than roaring but still fully entertained.

When it comes to John Carpenter's you can't go wrong, this is your movie.

『Directed by thrill master John Carpenter, this edge-of-your seat adventure stars Kurt Russell as Jack Burton, a tough-talking, wisecracking truck driver whose hum-drum life on the road takes a sudden supernatural tailspin when his best friend's fiancee is kidnapped. Speeding to the rescue, Jack finds himself deep beneath San Francisco's Chinatown, in a murky, creature-filled world ruled by Lo Pan, a 2000-year-old magician who mercilessly presides over an empire of spirits. Dodging demons and facing baffling terrors, Jack battles his way through Lo Pan's dark domain in a full-throttle, action-riddled ride to rescue the girl. Co-starring Kim Cattrall, this effects-filled sci-fi spectacle speeds to an incredible, twist-taking finish.
