(The Librarian: Quest for the Spear) 『This is the first and best adventure purchased in the series. It is suitable for children of all ages. I highly recommend this movie! From disappointment to elation with position of Librarian and the result of learning is amazing. Excellent characters, acting, and suspense.』
(Great action/adventure spoof) 『You know that nerd chic has made its mark when a globe-hopping search for the mystic amulet stars a librarian. Glasses, no girlfriend, the whole geeky stereotype. But, the number of academic degrees add up close to room temperature, and this quest uses every bit of his encyclopedic knowledge.
Noah Wyle (played by Flynn Carson) isn't an Indiana Jones, who becomes a hero by violating the nerdy image. He wins by his wiles, completely embracing his inner geek. And outer one, for that matter. Nicole (Sonya Walger) plays his gorgeous guide/guard, who alternates between pulling his helpless hide out of danger and following him as he deciphers clues from an ancient book.
[Spoiler!] The one scene in the movie that might best characterize its spirit comes near the end. It has Bob Newhart going all Chuck Norris on a roomful of heavily armed badguys. Talk about tongue in cheek! [End of spoiler]
The adventure is chaste and bloodless, mostly, and keeps a humorous tone throughout. And, although he's inept in many ways, the movie never descends to the nerd-bashing that seems so culturally ingrained. In fact, a high point of the flick comes when Nicole starts the beatdown on the female badguy with the challenge "Find your own geek!" It's good silly fun, with a reminder that bravery goes with brains as easily as with brawn. And maybe, just maybe, the babe goes for the brains.

(The Librarian - Quest for the Spear) 『The Librarian - Quest for the Spear
A truely fun adventure, told in an Indiana Jones, tongue-and-cheek type fashion. Production values are pretty good for television. The two sequels: Return to King Solomon's Mines and Curse of the Judas Chalis are also worth taking a look at. A pretty good series of adventures the whole family can enjoy together.』
(Wonderful characterization) 『I've watched all three of the Librarian movies, so this will sort of be a conglomerate review of the trilogy. Flynn Carson is adorable as a thirty-something, professional student whose head stores more facts than Encyclopedia Brittanica or reputable ".org" sites. After 16 years of college, he has 22 different degrees (12 bachelor's, 6 master's, and 4 Ph.D's). According to my math (and no differential equations involved with this computation), he should be 34-years-old in the first installment. Yet he celebrates his 32nd birthday in the second movie, when logically, he should be celebrating his 35th. Ahh well, maybe he was dual-enrolled.
His mother is forever setting him up with young women, including his own (a few times-removed) cousin in the third movie. Flynn realizes after a blind-date (arranged, of course, by his fretting mother) with a social worker, that he needs to change in some ways. So, when a Harry Potteresque invitation to apply for "The Librarian" post at the Metropolitan Museum of New York arrives unexpectedly in the mail, Flynn applies for the job. He is selected because he can apply all his book learning to deduce that Charlene, the interviewer, had a reconstructive nose job in early childhood, currently suffers from swollen glands, and has two cats who left practically invisible traces of fur on her blazer. He also knows what's important in life, gleaned from a recent pep talk with his mother: it's the heart that matters more than the mind.
The librarian job is a tour-de-force, and Flynn's prolonged studenthood was a serendipitous (or not so-serendipitous) preparation for the job description: saving the world. These movies could also be called "The Curator," as it seems like a private collections art curator is more apropos; Flynn repeatedly rescues or destroys mythical artifacts that have magical powers.
After much adventure and near-death experiences, Flynn successfully retrieves the spear. However, I thought that one detail was inconsistent. The spear was purposely split into thirds to render it less dangerous. These three parts were hidden across the globe, one of which was housed at the Museum, where it was stolen. The splintered pieces of the spear harnessed enough energy from a pyramid alignment that the spear became whole again. Yet, Flynn is not asked to break the spear apart again once it is returned to the library. I would have thought that he'd have to arrange for it to be splitered again and then hide the remaining two pieces at other remote geographical locations.
Still, a lot of fun. The character of Judson is mysterious. The third movie implies he is much more than director of The Library, perhaps a supernatural deity. Flynn tells Judson, "I know who you are." Flynn persists, "You're over two thousand years old," whereas Judson shakes his head and sallies, "Two thousand years old, think about it, now that is just insulting."
In these movies, myth is history and the far-fetched is fact. A lot of fun and undergirded by light humor. I absolutely love the characterization of Flynn Carson. This character has no idea how gorgeous he is, and he makes bookish and nerdy smolderingly hot.』 『To be a librarian, you must master the Dewey Decimal System, ace internet research and, if you're new librarian Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle), save the world! Wyle (ER) heads a sterling cast in a fun, fantastical, special effects-laden adventure that soars around the world from the Metropolitan Library to the Amazon jungle to the Himalayas. Geeky Carsen lands a job as the Librarian, keeper of such top-secret Met treasures as Excalibur and Pandora's Box. Then the Serpent Brotherhood, seeking world domination, steals one of three parts of the magical Spear of Destiny from the library. Only Flynn, aided by a gorgeous bodyguard, has the knowhow to thwart their plan. But does he know how to be a hero? He will - even if he has to gouge, kick, punch, brave Mayan death traps and plunge off icy precipices every inch of the way!

』 『Broadcast to record ratings on the TNT cable network, thisRaiders-esque adventure does not go by the book, staring with its atypical action hero and his decidedly uncool profession. Flynn Carsen (Noah Wylie fromE.R.) is a thirtysomething perpetual student who still lives with his mother (Olympia Dukakis). When his exasperated professor finally ejects him into the real world, Carsen's Holmesian deductive acumen lands him a job as the librarian at the Metropolitan Library. This is not an ordinary library. It houses history's most mythic artifacts, including the Ark of the Covenant, Pandora's Box, and the sword Excalibur. The fate of the world is in Carsen's hands ("That's so sad," he observes) when the dread Serpent Brotherhood steals the library's Spear of Destiny, and Carsen must retrieve it. His reluctant, and antagonistic, partner is Nicole (Sonya Walger), who is as skilled in martial arts as Carsen is schooled in the Dewey Decimal System. Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin add welcome comic relief, with Newhart, of all people, getting into the action by film's end. The humble hero (who would rather be known as "Flynn, the rather pleasant at parties"), somewhat cheesy special effects, and corny comedy makeThe Librariana fun guilty pleasure. As Carsen proclaims, "Being a librarian is actually a cool job." This looks like the beginning of a beautiful franchise.--Donald Liebenson』

(The Librarian-Return to King Solomon's Mines) 『This movie is an adventure family type film. It capitavates the audience and keeps the viewers spellbound. The actors are amazing and casting is perfect. This is a keeper in your movie collection.』
(I adore this movie and that's why I bought it.) 『The Librarian Series is Amazing. I think they give a new spin on the Biblical history and stories. I also just love movies. It has an amazing story. I love the playful storyline. I appreciate TNT for first veiwing it, and now Amazon for selling it.』
(My favourite librarian returns) 『I really liked "Quest for the Spear" so purchased this one straight away.
The casting in this movie was spot on - the chemistry between Noah Wyle and Gabrielle Anwar was brillant.
The story is very fast paced as Noah tries to find King Solomon's Mine - Gabrielle's character gets drawn in after being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This movie also adds to Noah's background as we learn more about his childhood and he is forced to face his own demons.
If you only ever watch 1 of the currently 3 Librarian movies - this is the one to watch!』
(Low budget) 『The movie is entertaining but lacks the depth of a big production movie. I have seen better made for TV movies.』 『The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines is the highly-anticipated sequel to the popular TNT original movie The Librarian: Quest for the Spear. Noah Wyle ("ER") reprises his role as Flynn Carsen the nerdy yet precocious librarian who was called to protect the world's greatest secrets. Along with Wyle much of the original cast including Bob Newhart Olympia Dukakis and Jane Curtin return for another round of rip-roaring pulse-pounding adventure. In addition the lovely Gabrielle Anwar (Scent of a Woman) joins the cast to accompany Carsen in his mission to save the world's most valuable treasures. "Relax," he tells a companion before daringly retrieving an ancient artifact before it can be used for evil. "This kind of stuff happens to me all the time." A character of modest charms (much like this made-for-cable movie), Carsen is not your typical movie action hero. His brain serves him better than his brawn. Early on, his knowledge of vegetation plays a key role in a cliff-jumping escape from pursuing bad guys. Carsen, for those just tuning in, is a librarian at the Metropolitan Library, which secretly houses history's mythic artifacts, including the sword Excalibur, and the Shroud of Turin. The fate of the world is once again in Carsen's hands when a map to the legendary King Solomon's Mines is stolen. Carsen embarks on another fantastic global adventure, with stops in Casablanca (with inevitable references to the Humphrey Bogart classic) and Kenya. This time, he has new female companionship, Emily (Gabrielle Anwar), a beautiful archaeologist who can match the much-educated Carsen degree for degree. Reprising their roles from the first film are Olympia Dukakis as Flynn's meddling mother, who tries to fix him up with his third cousin ("You'll have plenty to talk about"), Jane Curtin as flinty library administrator, Charlene ("Save your receipts"), and Bob Newhart as his mentor, Judson. Savvy viewers will see plot twists and character revelations coming from a mile away, but that is all part of the fun, as are the hokey special effects and knowing humor ("There's always a secret passage," Carsen observes while navigating a catacomb). Well I was a bit surprised when this was the first disc I put in that it was pretty bad compared to HD movies I watch on satellite... glad the reviews back this point up. As someone else said the effects scenes are fine, but the live action is grainy in a lot of places. Why bother putting this out if it's no better than the regular DVD? 』
(2010) 『Fairly good transfer to BD. Noticed some macroblocking, but overall, not too distracting. This is much superior to the DVD release for detail and color, and the sound is vastly improved as well. This is a fun, entertaining and sometimes thought-provoking movie. A good addition to the collection.』
(Details is all about 2010) 『First this is a BR review on 2010. Second, as a 2010 movie fan. After almost 10 years watching the letterbox format on DVD, I have to say this BR edition is very good. Details is all about, from the beginning to the end. Now you can appreciate all the details this movie has, even the movie was clean in my opinion, on the DVD version the scene on New Mexico the VLA, you can notice a lot of particles, dust at the edge of the screen left and right, just look the sky on those sides. The BR version all is clean. The colors are more vivid, the sound is way better also. One bad thing about it, is because you can see more details many of the space scenes you may notice the camera shaking, on the planets and the Leonov's spaceship. This was also noticeable on 2001 early DVD versions, then this was fixed on the latest edition and HD-DVD (I guess the BR version too). Some scenes also you may notice the film-grain, but other scenes are very clear picture. The BR edition has the same as DVD extras, the trailer, and the making of the film. Only more language options you have here. Also the russian dialogue is not translated, so keep your imagination on those parts. My reviews on this BR 4.5 / 5.』
(How did this get on BluRay?!) 『This review is for the BluRay release. As has been said before in other reviews of this title, do not expect the atmosphere and feel of 2001 from 2010. Still it's an interesting story that answers many questions you were left to ponder after Kubrick's epic 2001 which is still a fantastic journey to undertake. I had a problem at first with Roy Scheider taking over the role of Heywood Floyd from William Sylvester who played him in 2001. Perhaps Sylvester was not available for 2010, I do not know, I haven't checked. Still overall 2010 is a good film. It's special effects really need to be cleaned up as a lot of the green screen shots are uneven, the astronauts look muddy and things have a cut-n-paste look to them. Matte squares (where they mask out everything they don't want in the picture as in the case of a space ship) are plainly visible in many shots. Of course we have to remember that in 1984, when 2010 was made, computer graphics were just becoming fashionable in motion pictures and we've come a long way in the 25 years since this film was made. Still, I feel a good re-mastering of this film is definitely in order.
I was appalled by the quality of this BluRay disc! Here I thought that by purchasing it on BluRay, the newest thing in HiDef, I'd be treated to an entirely new experience in viewing this film. Especially compared to the crummy previous releases not to mention the horrid pan-and-scan VHS and Beta editions ... oh I said not to mention those didn't I? ;-)
Anyways, the sound was fairly flat with not much stereo separation and the picture was extremely grainy (worse than VHS!) and it didn't look like all the grain was due to the film copy they used for mastering, some must have been inherant in the video transfer. I only blew $15 on it but still, how this one got thru quality control is beyond me. Certainly they must have better film elements to work with and more care should be taken with these releases. Maybe they just rush these things through so that they can have more titles out on BluRay to compete with the other studios? If so, shame on them!』
(good movie - bad BluRay) 『I have very mixed feelings about the BR version of 2010. Enough has been said about the movie itself, so let me just summarize: It's obviously not 2001, still a great SF movie, especially for its time.
I was very hesitant to buy this disk after reading the BR reviews. But after owning 2001 I just had to complete my collection, especially since it had been 20 years since I had watched it on the big screen.
The BR transfer is very poor. The DVD wasn't so good, unfortunately no effort whatsoever was spent on the BR edition. Especially the inside shots are extremely grainy and had me check my BR settings.
The other bad news about the BR is the lack of features. One 10 minute preview and one trailer is all you get, zero BR menus/gimmicks. I could have done this myself with iDVD.
If you're a fan, you will buy this for your collection no matter what. If you're not, there is no reason to buy this disk.』 『A new time, a new odyssey, a new chance to confront enigmas arising from the daring Jupiter mission of 2001. Crew members aboard the Leonov will rendezvous with the still-orbiting Discovery. And their fate will rest on the silicon shoulders of the computer they reawaken, HAL-9000. Based on Arthur C. Clarkes 2001: A Space Odyssey sequel, director Peter Hyams spellbinder nominated for 5 Academy Awards* stars Roy Scheider, John Lithgow, Oscar winner** Helen Mirren, Bob Balaban and Keir Dullea.』 『No director could ever have hoped to repeat the artistic achievement of Stanley Kubrick's2001: A Space Odyssey, and nobody knew that better than Peter Hyams, who made this much more conventional film from the first of three sequel novels by Arthur C. Clarke. Whereas Kubrick made a poetic film of mind-expanding ideas and metaphysical mysteries, Hyams shouldn't be blamed for taking a more practical, crowd-pleasing approach. In revealing much of what Kubrick deliberately left unexplained,2010lacks the enigmatic awe of its predecessor, but it's still a riveting tale of space exploration and extraterrestrial contact, beginning when a joint American-Soviet mission embarks to determine the cause of failure of the derelict spaceshipDiscovery. Having arrived atDiscoverynear the planet Jupiter, the American mission leader (Roy Scheider) and his Russian counterpart (Helen Mirren) must investigate the apparent failure of the ship's infamous onboard computer, HAL 9000, as well as the meaning of countless mysterious black monoliths amassing on Jupiter's surface (an interpretation Kubrick originally left up to his viewers). Meanwhile, Earth is on the brink of nuclear war, and an apparition of astronaut David Bowman (Keir Dullea) appears to repeatedly promise that "something wonderful" is about to happen. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Brilliance) 『I cannot say enough about the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan. The combination of the acting, mise-en-scen, and cinematography all amalgamate to provide the viewer with spectacular artistic images, excellent portrayals of characteristic ideologies, and as well as a thrilling psychological plot. The acting led by Christian Bale and Heath Ledger is only to be followed by an outstanding all star cast including Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and Aaron Eckhart. Bale continues his role as Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman for the second time after his initial success in Batman Begins. No matter how great of a performance Christian Bale put out there for the audience, his acting will forever be overshadowed by that of Heath Ledger who died shortly after the making of the film, and thus this movie will forever be known as "the role that killed Heath." Christopher Nolan and Heath worked tremendously together capturing the essence of the half serial killer, half chaotic sociopath adding tremendous depth and complexity to the Joker not seen in the original comics. The only weak point in this cast in my opinion was Maggie Gyllenhaal who replaced Katie Holmes from the previous film. She looked old and out of touch with the whole Bruce Wayne and Rachael Dawes typical comic love affair, but simply their chemistry on stage did not coincide. The Mise-en-scen of The Dark Knight refers to everything on stage (the props, sets, costumes, and acting), and was mainly the brainchild of Nolan's brilliant thinking. Combined with the cinematography or how the movie was filmed (lighting, camera angles, camera movement, etc.) Nolan creates stunning visuals for the two and a half hour saga of good against evil. The film itself contains many long shots and astonishing background and inversion camera clippings creating stunning visuals on the big screen. The set seems to be jammed packed with props and intricate details that the viewer can really appreciate. Many resent the fact that it is over one hundred and fifty minutes long, but actually on the contrary I believe it adds to the overall suspense and to be frank any shorter of the movie would undoubtedly fail to do justice to the actors and plot of the film. In conclusion the viewer should buy this movie for the action scenes, excellent examples of great directing, an all -star cast, not to mention the fact that it was Heath Ledger's last film ever.』
(Beyond what I expected) 『Knowning all the hype that was put out about this movie had me very very concerned. Due to, from past experience, the lack of substance that a movie will have once completed and in theaters. More times than not a movie with such over hype usually is just a way for studios to try to gain money from the audeince who doesn't know any better and once it is seen it falls away into oblivian. That was my concern about this movie. That it would suck so bad that it completely destory Batman as a comic book character that has been around since the early 20th century. Just because studios think that the masses are just dumb sheep who will make a hit out of a movie just because of a lot of advertising was put behind it.
However, I was pleasantly proven wrong about this movie. What Christpher Nolan did with Batman Begins he built upon in this one. We see a city still in dispair to the point of breaking. Yet there is hope on the streets and fear starting emerge in the hearts of criminals, all because of Batman. Along comes the Joker. He is a sucidal maniac who wants to prove to the world that it sits on a thin thread between chaos and order. Thinking that most of society, at its heart, is chaotic is oout to take down the only thing standing between him and complete anarchy, Batman. To take down the Joker and his diabolical plans Batman, LT. Gordon, and newly appointed D.A. Harvey Dent team up. Although, the heroes of this story try to take down the Joker through moral ways he makes it very difficult for them to make the right decision and become a symbol of hope for the city of Gotham.
In the end the movie blew me away and then some. The script was well written. The movie was well acted by everyone included. And the moral choices that the characters had to make pushed comic book heroes into the real life that everyone can identify with.』
(Twisted Morality overshadows technical brilliance) 『 Batman as the CIA, Gordon as Cheney - what a miserable and extremely dreary ending to an otherwise fabulously conceived and brilliantly executed movie. Batman and Gordon are the real architects of the world without rules in a movie where they are supposed to be telling us how to deal with such a world. Smacks far too much of neo-con 101 for my liking.
Instead of organising a shoddy and sordid little cover-up at the very end, all they had to do was tell the people the truth that Dent had been morally broken by the Joker and that the Joker had been captured, and Gotham's soul would not only have been saved but massively fortified against such future attacks.
Instead we have the possibility of more mangled-morality and hideous cod-philosophising in Batman 3 (or 7, whatever you prefer), more dilution of Batman's uniquely moral symbolism, and more incoherent ramblings from professional and amateur critics about the superbly complex and sophisticated philosophical positions taken by the movie.
This film reminds me a lot of Michael Mann products which are so technically accomplished and overpoweringly hypnotic, that you frequently fail to process the fact that you being fed second-rate, morally suspect, nutritionally-hollow horse-crock in terms of plot and character along-side your delicious and gorgeous cinematic visuals.
All in all, this film was a terrible waste of a fine cast, headed by the brilliant Ledger, a great premise and a fine predecessor.
Maybe we get the Batman we deserve. Once an outside-the-law extension of the will of the people a la Clint Eastwood's avenging angel characters, now an above-the-law manipulator of the will of the people a la John Travolta's Swordfish character. A very depressing turn of events which we hope will be rectified in future Batman films. Fingers, sadly, are not crossed.
』
(A Nearly Three Hour Speech) 『Mention character study as a reason to watch a movie to me, and you have just counterproducted yourself. When you say character study, I often say people study. Unlike some movie fans, I try my best to say grounded with reality, trying very hard not get impressed by every character on the screen as much as possible, getting to know (or observing) interesting people, getting into interesting experiences situations by myself, basically, all things real life. That doesn't mean I dislike a character study. Even though plot, film making, characters are crucial in making a movie complete. Interesting characters really can make a movie all that better. Oh who am I kidding? Bland characters can kill a movie. Just ask Roland Emmerich, as his characters are so bland that all the special effects in the world can't make a great movie (although, surprise surprise, his later).
Characters in movies are a peculiar thing. Some of them can be memorable, easy to love, identify, and let you watch and believe it, feeling everything the character is, loving or hating the person on screen. Even sometimes, the actors can make a character that isn't totally unique fall into this catergory. On the flip side, so many characters in movies are so "real" that watching them makes you wonder why the hell your even watching these personalities on the screen. So much that you realize that you aren't living a life of your own at all. Chances are, they don't have much plot revolving around them either.
The Dark Knight is being touted as the most realistic and intelligent comic book movie ever, a label that has so much laughable baggage in it. Basically, I see the whole Batman and DC comic label a gimmick. The story is not that interesting underneath, there is no atmosphere, the characters are not that interesting, the themes are't that original, and everything is ANALYZED to death (Nostalgia Critic hit the nail on what he meant about that). The Nostalgia Critic was right about what he said about analyzed, as everything is talked about at length. And many of the speeches aren't even that original. When the Joker is talking about how civiled people turn into animals, DOES THAT SOUND FAMILIAR? It something that was told in Lord of the Flies, nay, Freud's concept of the id, ego, and supergo already. And Freud's concept says a lot more in less tedious ways.
So who are the characters? Yes, the Joker is all about anarchy and chaos, but so are many other people. Sure, none have been close to taking over a city, but I think that most can figure out that anarchy can get out of hand. Frankly, seeing it really isn't that interesting. The Joker also really doesn't resemble the comic books as much as he should. When drawn, the Joker looks INSANE, crazy, and loony. I remember how much I used to shake at the sight of such pictures as Batman: The Man Who Laughs. Heath Ledger's joker look still doesn't do that much for me. And forget his . Jack Nicholson's is a litte more fun, and since Heath doesn't scare me that much, Nicholson's cartoony edge makes him more fun to watch.
The Dark Knight, however, is not a bad movie. Christopher Nolan is a great director, the acting is stellar, the music is great, basically, the technical aspects are excellent. The action scenes are exciting, as well as some great scenes that I liked scattered about. I also loved the Batmobile and the batbike, watching his costumes, and Heath Ledger's brillaint scene with his hostage. It wasn't exactly scary, but I could only imagine the silence that followed in the theater after it. Also, Two-Face was the best incarnation of the villian, considering that the first incarnation of the villian, well nevermind. Gary Oldman also was a much better Detective Gordon, simply because how well he sinks into the role. Oldman can sink into anything.
Yes, I do like Tim Burton's Batman series better, but that's not why I am rating this as an average movie. Rather everything else above makes it average. While this is miles better than the Joel Schumacher movies (Ya think?), it's touted "realism" is third person, which really hampers the movie since it has absolutely nothing to really offer besides that, a character study. Did I enjoy it? Sure. However, I expected a whole lot more, and The Dark Knight would probably not even got if it wasn't bagged as a comic book movie (ugh), no less known as a Batman movie.』
(love it!) 『I really enjoyed this movie it was full of action and the dark knight was amazing I really don't like the bat-man but what are you going to do I would have preferred Clooney but what are you going to do overall it is a must see movie!』 『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 12/09/2008 Run time: 151 minutes Rating: Pg13』 『The Dark Knightarrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralyzed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.
In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director-cowriter Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimedBatman Beginswith an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies likeSpider-Man 2andIron Manbecause of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knightis a film for the ages.--David Horiuchi

(Review of "Willow") 『An international order which arrived way before estimated date. Excellent condition and quality even though second hand. Very happy with it. Thank you』
(Willow, Fantasy film done right..) 『The first film I remeber Val Kilmer in and he was cast just right. A scoundrel gone right type of deal.. It works good for his style of acting. There's something for everyone in this movie, brownies for the kids, a few good guy fights with humor, as well as some romance for the ladies.. 』
(Fascinating!) 『This film is enchanting. A true classic for its genre, it follows the story of a dwarf named 'Willow' after finding a baby floating down river. Each character in the story is fun to watch, the dialog is excellent and the effects are decent as well. The film is a bit goofy but the dark backdrop made it all the more interesting. From beginning to end, you'll want to stay in your seat as the comedy, drama, and action are all well worth watching. This is an older fantasy film, but definitely worth being in anyone's collection.』
(willow) 『This one is obviously for the young. But Kilmer and Whalley both do a good job. Entertaining but not a keeper.』 『From legendary filmmakers George Lucas and Ron Howard comes one of the most beloved fantasy tales of all time. This groundbreaking film features stunning special effects, dazzling action and a classic battle between good and evil.
When young Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis) finds an abandoned baby, he is suddenly thrust unto an adventure filled with magic and danger. According to an ancient prophecy, the sacred child is destined to end the reign of the evil sorceress Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh). Now, the only a single swordsman (Val Kilmer) at his side, Willow must overcome the forces of darkness that threaten to destroy anyone who stands in the Queen's way!』
『This epic Lucasfilm fantasy serves up enough magical adventure to satisfy fans of the genre, though it treads familiar territory. With abundant parallels toStar Wars, the story (by George Lucas) follows the exploits of the little farmer Willow (Warwick Davis), an aspiring sorcerer appointed to deliver an infant princess from the evil queen (Jean Marsh) to whom the child is a crucial threat. Val Kilmer plays the warrior who joins Willow's campaign with the evil queen's daughter (Joanne Whalley, who later married Kilmer). Impressive production values, stunning locations (in England, Wales, and New Zealand) and dazzling special effects energize the routine fantasy plot, which alternates between rousing action and cute sentiment while failing to engage the viewer's emotions. A parental warning is appropriate: director Ron Howard has a light touch aimed at younger viewers, but doesn't shy away from grisly swordplay and at least one monster (a wicked two-headed dragon) that could induce nightmares.--Jeff Shannon』

(Classic Christmas!) 『What's Christmas without snow, snow, SNOW! Plenty of that to be had in both Christmas classics: White Christmas and It's a wonderful life! The family tradition in my house since I was a young girl was the night we decorated the tree, watch White Christmas and have hot chocolate and cinnamon buttered toast. And who doesn't want to see an angel get it's wings and find "Zuzu's petals" over and over again. That's not a question. It's a fact. Now I'm 55 and my kids are grown and we still cry when the retired General comes in and all his platoon line up to sing "we'll follow the old man wherever he wants to go!" I know I will be until I'm 95!』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Bringing puppets to life, but a few spots of rot in the script) 『"Corpse Bride" is a gruesome addition to the macabre oeuvre of Tim Burton. It tells the story, in stop-motion animation, of Victor and Victoria, a lonely boy and girl who are being forced to wed by their money-grubbing parents. But a chance encounter in graveyard brings back from the dead Emily, the reanimated corpse of a spurned bride. When Victor accidentally slips a ring onto her bony finger, she resolves to wed Victor and bring him back with her to the world of the dead.
The sets are terrific, Victorian ghoulishness at it creepy finest. The dead live underground, in a fast-paced society that mirrors the past, complete with bars and dancehalls. The dead themselves are partly and mostly-decayed skeletons that would probably scare the bejesus out of younger kids. Emily is a case in point. One leg and one arm are decayed to bone. Her ribs are visible on one side through her tattered wedding dress. Instead of rouge, one cheek is rotted to black and the other has lost enough flesh to reveal a toothy jaw line. That Burton's puppet master manage to make her look sexy shows their mastery of the genre. There is wonderful macabre humor is well. At French headwaiter is just that -- the waiter's guillotined head, made mobile by an skittering army of corpse-eating bugs.
The film is wonderful in all respects but plotting. The puppets are masterfully rendered in shades of brown (for the loving) and blue (for the dead). The animation is silky and smooth. But a number of plot lines don't make sense -- do not read on if you wish to be surprised! In spite of Emily's forced marriage to another character, there's no real reason that Victor must marry Emily. And there is no reason that Emily should decide to forgo her marriage to Victor when she sees Victoria in the church. And why a certain evil character would choose to drink a death-dealing potion is a mystery. Except that he plot required that he do so.
Still, there are many, many wonderful touches to The Corpse Bride. A scene of a character dissolving into butterflies was unexpected, touching and stylistically stunning. The stop motion technique did not prevent the artists from giving the characters expression and life. The story's unique touches (like a boy reunited with his long dead dog) were clever and original and fit the plot perfectly.
Almost lifelike, The Corpse Bride's plot could have used just a touch of the mortician's brush to render it restful and at peace.』
(Corpse Bride) 『This was purchased for a Christmas gift. It arrived ontime and in good condition.』
(Corpse Bride is a Tim Burton Triumph) 『Phenomenal story, cinematography, and stop-animation. Tim Burton proves again that he is a masterful director and simply the best at stop-animation. This story will keep you engaged from start to finish. The Blu Ray version of this film is flawless high-def.』
(charming) 『i absolutely love this movie. this film was my first blu-ray purchase. i have recommended it to a number of people who had never even heard of this movie and they all ended up loving it!』
(HD Movie) 『Great deal on a HD movie for my kids. This was a smooth transaction. Item arrived in great condition.』 『Set in a 19th century European village, this stop-motion, animated feature follows the story of Victor (voiced by JOHNNY DEPP), a young man who is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride, while his real bride, Victoria, waits bereft in the land of the living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colorful than his strict Victorian upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world, or the next, that can keep him away from his one true love.

』 『Who else but Tim Burton could makeCorpse Bride, a necrophiliac's delight that's fun for the whole family? Returning to the richly imaginative realm of stop-motion animation (after previous successes withThe Nightmare Before ChristmasandJames and the Giant Peach), Burton, with codirector Mike Johnson, invites us to visit the dour, ashen, and drearily Victorian mansions of the living, where young Victor Van Dort (voiced by Johnny Depp) is bequeathed to wed the lovely Victoria (Emily Watson). But the wedding rehearsal goes sour and, in the kind of Goth-eerie forest that only exists in Burton-land, Victor suddenly finds himself accidentally married to the Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham Carter), a blue-tinted, half-skeletal beauty (how pleasantly full-bosomed she remains!) with a loquacious maggot installed behind one prone-to-popping eyeball. This being a Burton creation, the underworld of the dead is a lively and colorful place indeed, and Danny Elfman's songs and score make it even livelier, presenting Victor with quite a dilemma: Should he return above-ground to Victoria, or remain devoted to his corpse bride? At a brisk 76 minutes, Burton's graveyard whimsy (loosely based on a 19th century Russian folktale) never wears out its welcome, and the voice casting (which includes Tracey Ullman and Albert Finney) is superbly matched the film's gloriously amusing character design, guaranteed to yield a wealth of gruesome toys and action figures for many Halloweens to come.--Jeff Shannon』

(Great Movie for kids) 『I bought this movie on a fluke years ago on VHS. It was in a Wal-mart bin for $5 so I thought what the heck. What a great buy. My grandkids watch it over and over again. Even my hubby and myself enjoy watching it. We finally broke down and purchased it from Amazon in DVD since we are getting rid of our VHS player. There are some parts that are a bit frightening for really little children but they turn out well in the end.』
(A Truly Amazing Animated Film) 『I was around four years old when this movie came to theatres and I still remember seeing it (honestly as a four year old I didn't even want to go to see it, my mom dragged me because she was (and still is) obsessed with Harry Connick Jr. Geez as a four year old I loved it. I'm so glad that it's on dvd, I'm fifteen now and I still watch it all the time. It's a great movie for almost all ages, and I think it'll surprise you.』
(Animated E.T., with more laxative jokes!) 『The Bottom Line:
A wholly overrated film which has good intentions but never manages to get the feel of the 1950s right or shake the feeling that it's basically a retelling of E.T. with an "iron giant" instead of a muppet (lonely boy without a father finds a sweet and gentle creature from another world and makes friends with it but the evil government agents want it for their own shadowy purposes), the Iron Giant further suffers from weak voice acting and the requisite poop jokes; ultimately the film emerges as something considerably less than the classic it's made out to be.
2.5/4』
(One of my favorites!) 『I LOVE this movie! It's SO GOOD it's brings a smile to my face every time I see it. This is a movie I could watch once a week for the rest of my life if I had too. It makes me enjoy good story telling. With great voice acting and a touching message that can make you cry. The Iron Giant is one of the best animation movies heck movies ever! IMO =)』 『A young boy rescues a huge robot which has rocketed to earth from space - and tries to protect the genial giant from a nosey government agent and the military. A captivating animated feature that's part metal, part magic and all heart.』 『This gentle reworking of Ted Hughes's 1968 novella was the unseen gem of 1999. Hogarth, a young boy who lives in the Maine woods during the cold war, befriends a giant robot. As with E.T., the iron giant is a misunderstood outsider who becomes a child's best friend, and Hogarth does his best to hide the massive figure from his mom (voiced by Jennifer Aniston) and the local scrap-yard beatnik (Harry Connick Jr.). Soon the suspicions of neighbors and a government agent (Christopher McDonald) spell trouble.
With no songs, no sidekicks, and no cheap ending,The Iron Giantis a refreshing change-- like an off-Broadway production compared to the glitz of Disney's annual animated extravaganzas. Director Brad Bird may haveFamily DogandThe Simpsonsto his credit, but this film doesn't have that brand of scatological humor. As with the best family entertainments, there are gags that adults will howl at while the kids are watching something else (see Bird's interpretation of cold war propaganda). And the star is one cool piece of animated magic. Voiced by Vin Diesel (Saving Private Ryan's hulking Private Caparzo) and filled with more gadgets than a Swiss army knife, the giant is a grand thing to behold. And like another famous cinema tin man, our hero--and the movie--has heart. Superb entertainment for ages 5 and up.--Doug Thomas』

(An awesome start to a great sci-fi television show) 『Stargate Atlantis seems destined to follow Deep Space Nine in terms of the middle child of sci-fi franchises. Never particularly famous, and not particularly loved, except the "hardcore" fans who will swear it is better than the show from where is spawned. While I'm sure I'll get plenty of angry comments, I am the hardcore fan who prefers atlantis to SG1. Why? Well, Atlantis starts very different from SG1. For starters, the first season is largely about them learning to understand and adapt to Atlantis, on their own with no help from earth. They are alone and dealing with a completely new enemy, the awesome Wraith, as well as a few equally evil humans, the Geni. This feeling of being completely on their own with everything feeling new lends creedence to the "explorer" theme of stargate far better. While I love SG1, I would get tired of the Asgard saving them all the time. Atlantis has atlantis and themselves, and must make do.
Better yet, this show truly takes from the classic sci-fi of olden days. Not just the political references, but the stories that you don't see coming from a mile away (well mostly), with interesting twists, and similarly building the characters and stories along the way.
Best of all, the show is just a lot of fun. I can watch Sheppard and McKay banter all day long. Frankly, in terms of scientist characters, McKay is easily my favorite of all sci-fi. He may be a bit of jerk, but his performance is likeably and fun enough to warrant you truly liking the character. Anyway, I've said too much, but I highly recomend you give this show a try if you haven't the first season sets a great precedent, and is one of the more entertaining shows you'll see.』
(first season of Stargate Atlantis) 『I haven't had time yet to watch it, but know I will not be disappointed, I loved the series, in fact it's on TV now and I watch it always. They had a great group. When I get my bills taken care of, I plan on asking for all the series. But not right know. Thanks for putting this series on for us who love these programs so we can see them when ever we want, instead of waiting until our TV stations decide to run them. Thanks Verna』
(Stargate Atlantis- The Complete First Season) 『I loved it. Stargate Atlantis is brilliant and humorous. Very entertaining and the best Sci-Fi show in my opinion.』
(Great Price, Great Quality) 『The DVDs and case are both in great condition and the price is very competitive. I have not been able to find a better price locally or on the web.』 『When a secret base, abandoned by the original builders of the Stargates, is found buried in the ice of Antartica, the newly formed Stargate Atlantis team is born. The team's discovery leads to a daring expeditiion to the distant Pegasus galaxy, where they encounter a primitive human civilization and a sinister new enemy that threatens human life everywhere. The Stargate Atlantis mission is headed by Dr. Elizabeth Weir, a specialist in diplomatic relations. Her political savvy is balanced by the bravado of her military counterpart, Major John Sheppard, a courageous pilot. Rounding out the crew are Lt. Aiden Ford, Sheppard's second-in-command, Dr. Rodney McKay, a clever and quick-witted astrophysicist and Teyla, a beautiful young leader among the primitive alien civilization that the Atlantis team encounters.』 『It's not a franchise on the order ofLaw&Order,CSI, orStar Trek--not yet, anyway--but withStargate Atlantis, a more than worthy successor toSG-1,Stargateis becoming a nice little cottage industry in itself. The premise, in a nutshell: The Ancients, the greatest race the universe has ever known (or something like that), abandoned Earth millions of years ago, taking Atlantis with them; they then sunk the entire city in order to escape the clutches of the dreaded Wraith, an implacable bunch of villains who nourish themselves by sucking the life from humans. Now, as the two-hour "Rising" pilot details, a new team has gained access to the legendary city. Once they arrive, Atlantis loses the power to sustain its protective shield and rises to the surface, and thus begin the team's adventures (i.e., using the stargate to travel to other planets in the Pegasus galaxy, encountering aliens both hostile and friendly, and trying to defeat the Wraith, or at least stay out of their way).
Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson),SG-1's driving force, is missed, butAtlantishas a strong replacement in Major John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), easily the most charismatic member of the new team. Like O'Neill, Sheppard is a wiseacre and a loose cannon, as well as a superb pilot with an innate understanding of the Ancients' arcane technology. His humor, humanity and conscience provide a welcome contrast to the other characters, especially brilliant-but-neurotic Dr. Rodney McKay (David Hewlett) and ultra-serious project leader Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson), who has little to do but give orders and stand up for her people. The Wraith, who resemble a vampire mutation of the albino blues guitarist Johnny Winter, are the focus of most of these 19 episodes (including the pilot). These bad boys will stop at nothing--nothing, I tell you!--in their quest to snack their way through every galaxy in the universe, with Earth their ultimate feeding ground. And while the final four episodes, dealing with the Wraith's massive attack on Atlantis, end with an unsatisfying cliffhanger (basically, nothing is resolved), earlier shows effectively keep their ominous presence in the forefront. The episodes in which the Wraith play little or no active role are often compelling as well, including "Thirty Eight Minutes" (one of our heroes' "puddle jumper" spacecraft gets stuck in the stargate), "Childhood's End" (we meet a race whose members are convinced that only ritual suicide is keeping the Wraith at bay), and "The Eye" (a planet-size hurricane/tsunami bears down on Atlantis). As is the case withSG-1, the visual effects work, especially by TV standards, is excellent; in fact, one might wish for bit more cool sci-fi action and less talk in some of the episodes. Special effects include commentary (by directors, writers, and/or actors) for every episode, as well as the occasional behind-the-scenes featurette.--Sam Graham』
