Though some of his deliveries feel flat and the romantic dialog is still iffy, it still doesn't stop this from ranking high (but not topping) the original three. The first hour is setup for the final act but what a setup! The Battle of Coruscant is one of the best space fights since the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi, even the most avid movie goer able to tell what's real and what's computer would probably have a hard time distinguishing, even when you know its computer generated. The fight with Count Dooku is well choreographed and Christensen unfortunately kills Christopher Lee (should've killed him in the last movie, he had the upper hand). Then for about thirty minutes, it feels like the previous installments. Though I don't think Lucas should've cut out ALL of the scenes featuring the birth of the Rebel Alliance, as that would've been an interesting sub-plot and he would've given Natalie Portman more to do than just cry and pine after Christensen. But after that there's; the Battle of Kashyyyk (with a cameo by Chewbacca), Mace Windu fighting the Emperor (and the death of my favorite Jedi, Kit Fisto) and then its Anakin going to the dark side. Out of the six, this is the darkest and, like Empire, the most story driven. Ian McDiarmid is perfect as the Emperor, who clearly is one of, if not the, greastest cinema villain ever. And why is that? He masterminds an entire war and then reforms the current government into the Empire (why does that sound presently familiar? A man who's great at giving speeches, sweeps the Senate into an uproar of promised change and peace and turns it into a dictatorship? Eh, must be my imaginatation. Yeah. Right). Anyway, Ewan McGregor gives an admirable performance, clearly devastated at the thought of Anakin going to the dark side and then having to face him. Of course, the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan and the fight between Palpatine and Yoda is the best lightsaber sequence out of the six. And of course, the birth of Darth Vader also gives birth to Luke and Leia. And John Williams delivers his best score for the saga, the music that backdrops Anakin and Obi-Wan/Palpatine and Yoda's lightsaber duels.』
(The best of the prequels) 『This is one of the most visually interesting movies I have ever seen. I'm not a big fan of computer animation, but this was the first movie to actually "sell" me on it. The CGI General Grievous character is great fun to watch; I wish he were in it more. This is a rather dark and violent movie and may disturb little kids who enjoyed the juvenile aspects of The Phantom Menace. It's the most well made of the prequels and the best Star Wars film since The Empire Strikes Back. In my opinion, this movie set a new standard for the quality and realism of CGI in movies and elevated it to a standard almost, but not quite, on par with practical effects (models, masks, etc.).
Ivan Rorick』
(And Now the Saga is Complete) 『It has been interesting, to say the least, to follow the buzz surrounding the final Star Wars prequel film, from the time before the film was released in theaters to now, 4 years afterward. In the beginning, people were claiming that "no one cares about Star Wars anymore" after the first 2 prequels (despite their having made nearly $750 million total in domestic box office, and that Ep.II was generally considered an improvement and a step in the right direction after Ep.I), and that Ep.III was going to be another "bomb". Then, lo and behold, just when some people were salivating at the chance to rip apart yet another SW film, the critical reaction to "Revenge of the Sith" came back positive, with accolades from Time, Newsweek, the NY Times, USA Today, and others who had hated the previous films; many declared Ep.III the finest entry since "The Empire Strikes Back", and one reviewer even liked it more than the original "Star Wars". The film would go on to make over $380 million to become the biggest blockbuster of 2005. It seemed that rumors of Star Wars's death had been greatly exaggerated.
That is...until after the movie had been out of the theaters for a few months, and then all the usual suspects came out, nitpicking and complaining like they always do. It became "cool" and "hip" to trash this film just like its predecessors, and soon things were right back to the way they were before, with people claiming that Ep.III was also a "flop" that no one really liked, pretending that the film's critical and commercial success never happened. And so here we are again, with the perpetually disgruntled fanboys crying about their "raped childhoods", etc. (It is ironic that this time the mainstream critics were mostly more forgiving than those know-it-alls who think George Lucas personally OWES it to them to make his movies to their exact specifications.)
Anyway, it is THEIR problem if they don't "get it", NOT Lucas's, or anyone else's. "Revenge of the Sith" completes the prequel trilogy in fine form, and brings SW full circle, as well. Ep.I began in a rather muddled fashion, trying to balance introducing the characters with a plot focused on small, localized events. In Ep.II (which was a decent movie in its own right), the grand plots sweeping the entire galaxy began to take shape, and events began on a galactic scale to lead inexorably to Ep.III, wherein we witness the fall of both the Republic, and Anakin himself.
In the crucial role as Anakin Skywalker, Hayden Christensen is clearly more comfortable this time out, capturing Anakin's conflicted emotions and insecurities that rage beneath his ostensibly heroic persona, which cause him to become disillusioned with the Jedi and his own lot in life. This leaves him open to the manipulations of Palpatine -- the second crucial character here. Ian McDiarmid does a masterful job as the Emperor, who is revealed as the driving force behind the events in the saga to that point. The relationship between Anakin and Palpatine, his trusted father figure who leads him astray into making his Faustian bargain, is the heart of the movie, and is what makes it work. Indeed, one of the most emotionally powerful sequences is<>when Anakin betrays Mace Windu and pledges his loyalty to the now disfugured Palpatine and his cause, then receives his first orders as Darth Vader -- effectively marking the birth of the evil Empire. Yet, it seems clear that Anakin is still conflicted and unsure of himself, even as he commits more evil acts, up until his final transformation at the end -- by which it is too late.
The third player is Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, who continues to fight for the doomed Republic ( I especially like the battle with General Grievious, who swings multiple light sabers like whirling neon helicopter blades) until he is forced to take action against his former pupil; the aftermath is particularly moving, inspiring pity not only for the mortally wounded Anakin, but also for Obi-Wan, who seems to suffer just as much. McGregor has practically made the character his own; he could almost be the "Han Solo of the Prequel Trilogy" -- which lends a bit of irony to Han's remarks about Kenobi in Ep.IV...
Finally, there is Yoda, who seems to feel the final defeat of the Jedi as a personal loss. His duel with the Emperor, where they both unleash their powers to the greatest extent yet, was also one of my favorites. The deleted scene on the DVD showing Yoda's arrival on Dagobah, while not vital to the story, did capture the melancholy of his situation perfectly.
All these elements, wrapped up in the usual barrage of sights and sounds that can only be found in a Star Wars film, make Ep.III a classic that ranks right up there with the Original Trilogy; the entire last act of the film has a pervasive mood of sadness and melancholy, coupled with the exhiliration one gets from watching the best tragedies. All the cards are laid on the table -- the covert plots and foreshadowings of the previous 2 episodes are finally brought to fruition, and the previously hidden conflicts are now waged openly, leading to the civil war of Eps.IV-VI. The fall of the Republic is symbolized by the transformation of Anakin into Vader, and the original series can now be viewed as his struggle for redemption, as much as the Empire vs. Rebellion conflict. Vader has been redefined as a tragic figure, rather than a purely evil one; it is impossible for me to see Vader now without imagining the brooding, grieving Anakin behind the mask. It also sheds light on the true nature of Vader's and the Emperor's relationship as master and slave, having been from the beginning based on lies, deception and betrayal -- a theme that would resurface throughout the original films. (In fact, this was hinted at even before the Anakin/Obi-Wan duel, when Anakin refers to "his empire" in his speech. It suggests that he was NOT acting purely for unselfish reasons [saving Padme, etc.] when he chose his path, but also for his own secret desire for power.)
As for the Emperor, he shows his true nature in his reaction to Vader's scream when he realizes what has happened. (Many criticize this scene, but it is a fitting illustration of the Faustian themes of the film, with the Emperor as the grinning devil and Vader as the tormented soul in Hell.) Yet, at the same time, when Palpatine rescued Anakin after he was burned and near death, he showed hints of the fatherly affection that he may have indeed felt for him, despite his twisted motives.
At the end of the day, the Prequel Trilogy, with Ep.III as its crown jewel, effectively fleshes out the background of the Star Wars saga. While some parts of the PT were uneven, it makes it possible now to view the original movies with a new sense of the history behind them. And "Sith" is a film that actually improves after repeat viewings, which enable one to catch all the nuances that might be missed the first time around. With this movie, Lucas rewarded the fans who stuck with him, and brought the Star Wars series full circle.
...And now, the saga is complete.

(Anicin/Darth Vader) 『Star Wars - Episode III, Revenge of the Sith is abought Darth Sidious tricking Anakin in to becoming Darth Vader. Darth Vader had destroid Mace Windoo to protect Darth Sidious. It was Darth Vader vs. Obe-won Konobe. And another battle was Yoda vs. Darth Sidious. Darth Vader fell in hot lava and got his cool costume! 』
(Better than the the other 2 new ones, but still not good) 『Sorry, but these new Star Wars movies are loaded down with not so special effects, lame acting, and weak characters. I hate you George!』 『Anakin begins a tragic transformation into the menacing Darth Vader when he is torn between his mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi, his beloved Padme, and the dark powers of the Sith. Genre:Science Fiction Rating:PG13 Release Date:1-NOV-2005 Media Type:DVD』 『Ending the most popular film epic in history,Star Wars: Episode III, Revenge of the Sithis an exciting, uneven, but ultimately satisfying journey. Picking up the action fromEpisode II, Attack of the Clonesas well as the animatedClone Warsseries, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and his apprentice, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), pursue General Grievous into space after the droid kidnapped Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid).
TheStar WarsFamily Tree (click for larger image)
It's just the latest maneuver in the ongoing Clone Wars between the Republic and the Separatist forces led by former Jedi turned Sith Lord Count Dooku (Christopher Lee). On another front, Master Yoda (voiced by Frank Oz) leads the Republic's clone troops against a droid attack on the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk. All this is in the first half ofEpisode III, which feels a lot likeEpisodes IandII. That means spectacular scenery, dazzling dogfights in space, a new fearsome villain (the CGI-created Grievous can't match up to either Darth Maul or the original Darth Vader, though), lightsaber duels, groan-worthy romantic dialogue, goofy humor (but at least it's left to the droids instead of Jar-Jar Binks), and hordes of faceless clone troopers fighting hordes of faceless battle droids.
But then it all changes.
Star WarsTime Line (click for larger image)
After setting up characters and situations for the first two and a half movies,Episode IIIfinally comes to life. The Sith Lord in hiding unleashes his long-simmering plot to take over the Republic, and an integral part of that plan is to turn Anakin away from the Jedi and toward the Dark Side of the Force. Unless you've been living under a rock the last 10 years, you know that Anakin will transform into the dreaded Darth Vader and face an ultimate showdown with his mentor, but that doesn't matter. In fact, a great part of the fun is knowing where things will wind up but finding out how they'll get there. The end of this prequel trilogy also should inspire fans to want to see the original movies again, but this time not out of frustration at the new ones. Rather, becauseEpisode IIIis a beginning as well as an end, it will trigger fond memories as it ties up threads to the originals in tidy little ways. But best of all, it seems like for the first time we actually care about what happens and who it happens to.
Episode IIIis easily the best of the new trilogy--OK, so that's not saying much, but it might even jockey for third place among the sixStar Warsfilms. It's also the first one to be rated PG-13 for the intense battles and darker plot. It was probably impossible to live up to the decades' worth of pent-up hype George Lucas faced for theStar Warsprequel trilogy (and he tried to lower it with the first two movies), butEpisode IIImakes us once again glad to be "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away."--David Horiuchi

(Awesome Movie) 『This is one of the best musicals of all time! "The Wiz" is MoTown's take on "The Wizard of Oz" without the exploitation of little people (when Dorothy finds herself in Munchkin Land). It's an awesome movie that will definitely be enjoyed for years (and years) to come. The only reason I didn't give this movie 5 stars is for the length of the movie, as it is 3+ hours long. ALSO-- I got the movie for a great price on Amazon!』
(Michael Jackson shines in this movie) 『I was pleasantly surprised by this movie but I would have liked to hear more singing from a very young only 19 or 20 year old Michael Jackson in his first real movie! He sings "You Can't Win" and he is totally adorable as the Scarecrow in this movie. The digital remake was a big improvement over previous versions. I also loved the song "Ease on Down The Road" Michael and Diana dance down the yellow brick road singing the song. Michael shines and steals every scene, imo. I was disappointed that he didn't sing more songs solo though. This movie is a must for any MJ fan. Nipsey Russell was really cute in this also. Diana Ross is good but I wanted to hear more singing from Michael and less from Diana. No offense to Diana Ross fans. Totally worth the price.』
(I LOVE THE WIZ...GREAT MOVIE) 『I bought this as a start to my movie collection so when I move out my parents house next year, I'll have my movies. My mother has the older version, but I have this one.It is a great movie, love MJ in this movie,he's so handsome, sweet, charming and irrestible. I don't see any difference and that's how I wanted it to be. Only thing I don't like is that the cd doesn't have diana ross' song "Soon as I get home." But so far great movie.』
(one of the biggest slept-on hits of the 70's) 『the wiz, starring diana ross, michael jackson (r.i.p.), nipsey russell (r.i.p.), and ted ross (r.i.p.), was an african-american version of l. frank baum's story 'the wonderful wizard of oz,' not a re-make of the 1939 classic. it had it's own energy, and it's own interpretations of scenery, costuming, and the all-important message of going within to find the answers one seeks. this was apparently lost on the audiences of the times, and didn't do well in the box office. it takes a more culturally aware mind and heart to appreciate this gem, which showcases some incredible songs 'ease on down the road,' the luther vandross-penned '(can't you feel a) brand new day,' 'believe in yourself,' and the showstopper, 'home.' although much has been said about ross' age in playing dorothy, keep in mind that this was not a re-make of the original movie, but a re-interpretation of the storybook and the stage play. dorothy was changed into a shy schoolteacher in search of her sense of self, rather than a little girl on a kansas farmstead. ross does brilliantly and delivers a powerhouse singing and dancing performance. jackson is brilliant as ever as the scarecrow, delivering chaplinesque physical comedy, his own beautiful signature tenor, fluid, funky dance moves, and one of the sweetest performances that reflected so much of his actual personality. comedian nipsey russell brings his sharp wit, showmanship, and surprising sensitivity to the tin man, and ted ross reprises his broadway role as the cowardly lion with a stunning performance of 'i'm a mean ole lion,' and shows off his brilliant stage chops with clever lines, growls and snorts included. the incredible talents of richard pryor, lena horne, theresa merritt, and mabel king round out the performance bill and quincy jones provides the bigger-than-life music production. this was a movie to be enjoyed for what it was, a feel-good romp through a modernized emerald city that was not supposed to be compared to judy garland and her companions, but appreciated as a slice of african-american artistry. such a pity that this classic never received the acclaim it so richly deserved.』 『Ease on down the yellow-brick road with the 30th Anniversary Edition of The Wiz, starring superstars Diana Ross and Michael Jackson! Relive all of the magic of this beloved musical when Dorothy is whisked away to the enchanting wonderland of Oz, where she encounters the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Lion. The Wiz features spectacular musical numbers from legendary producer Quincy Jones and an all-star cast including Lena Horne, Richard Pryor, Nipsey Russell and Ted Ross. With a digitally remastered picture and the unforgettable soundtrack in new 5.1 surround sound, it's an experience of the land of Oz unlike anything you've seen before!』 『Directed by Sidney Lumet (Serpico) and penned by Joel Schumacher (Batman and Robin), this lavish 1978 adaptation of the Broadway hitThe Wizwas the biggest production filmed in New York City up to that point, utilizing the newly revamped Astoria Studios and locations around the city. Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, and Ted Ross (reprising his Tony-winning role as the Lion) star in this Academy Award-nominated musical for the whole family. The Wizis probably the grandest take on L. Frank Baum's classic taleThe Wizard of Oz. The production team created sets with a sense of urban magic and spectacle: a New York subway station literally comes to life, and the massive plaza between the World Trade Center towers is transformed into the Emerald City, featuring nearly 400 dancers with three costume changes. Like all good musicals, the Quincy Jones arrangements are highly hummable long after viewing (especially the funky "Ease On Down the Road" and the inspirational "Brand New Day"). In an era before MTV, the camera stays nearly stationary as Ross and Lena Horne vocally soar through their numbers. Their stage-like performances successfully make the leap to film, makingThe Wiza testament to their singing talents and star presence. The then-thirtysomething Ross raised some eyebrows playing the traditionally teenaged Dorothy, but she and her supporting cast (including Richard Pryor as the Wiz) carry the tunes with an infectious verve that will appeal to folks of all ages. --Shannon Gee』

(Love the show but disappointed in image quality) 『This is one of my favorite shows and I'm very thankful to have it on DVD. The packaging for this edition is good and definitely an improvement on the previous edition with a gold cover, in which 6 discs were stacked on a plastic spindle and the last disc was defective (the second side would not play). However, I was disappointed with the image quality of the episodes in this edition. They appear fuzzier and less crisp than on the previous edition. The difference is perhaps unnoticeable to many, but I found it distracting. I have actually just gone ahead and moved the discs from the previous edition into this packaging because I prefer the image quality of the previous set. However, since that set is now out of print, it looks like this will be the only available option for most buyers. Make no mistake, this edition is watchable, and it's better than nothing, but I prefer the previous edition and was disappointed with this supposed "upgrade."』

『One of the first gems of the cable TV age,Faerie Tale Theatrebrings 26 classic tales to life. Produced over a five-year span (1982-87) for Showtime,FTTbrought together creative dramatics and whimsical writing with some of the top talents of the day. Executive producer/host Shelley Duvall (who was coming off her breakout role inThe Shining) shepherds this mix of theatrical simplicity and grand storytelling for these oft-told tales ("Goldilocks and the Three Bears," "Little Red Riding Hood," "Hansel and Gretel," "Sleeping Beauty," and the like) for kids and their parents. Since they are not elaborately produced,FTTmay be a hard sell for some smaller members of the family at first, but most should be hooked, even older kids who may pooh-pooh fairy tales. There's always a slight twist that makes these productions fresh. The cast is amazing, especially when you think how lightly cable television was thought of in the '80s: Jeff Bridges, Bud Cort, Liza Minnelli, James Coburn, Susan Sarandon, Christopher Reeve, Klaus Kinski, Billy Crystal, Matthew Broderick, Gregory Hines, Eric Idle, Robin Williams, and Mick Jagger are some of the talented--and varied--actors appearing. Crystal's take on the smart "Little Pig" (with Jeff Goldblum as the wolf) and Williams's "Frog Prince" are two comic gems. Malcolm McDowell, right in the middle of his career high-point of playing baddies, brings flair to the Big Bad Wolf, while his then-real-life wife Mary Steenburgen beautifully counterpoints as Red Riding Hood. The casting of Vincent Price and Vanessa Redgrave in "Snow White" is inspired. Also impressive are the directors Duvall pooled: Tim Burton ("Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp"), Francis Ford Coppola ("Rip Van Winkle") Peter Medak (three episodes), Nicholas Meyer ("Pied Piper"), and Roger Vadim ("Beauty and the Beast"). You can go on for days about these wonderful tales, most totaling around the 45-minute mark, but it's better just to get the set and start wherever you'd like; you will get to the end sooner than you think.--Doug Thomas』

(A terrific movie for kids of all ages) 『Once upon a time, there lived an ogre named Shrek (Mike Meyers). Shrek liked the quiet life in his swamp, until Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow)evicted all of the fairy tale animals from his Kingdom. The animals move into Shrek's swamp, which he is not happy about. So he and the fast-talking Donkey (Eddie Murphy) visit Farquaad to work out a deal: Shrek will rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) from a fire-breathing dragon, in exchange for taking the animals back. While spoofing every fairy tale from Three Blind Mice to Three Little Pigs, and taking numerous shots at Disney, Shrek's message is not lost. One cannot always see beauty from the outside. I haven't seen a movie this funny in years. Bring the kids! I'd say 4 and up. There is some mildly crude humor, but little ones won't get it anyway.』

But I am happy with my movie! 』 『Movie DVD』 『William Steig's delightfully fractured fairy tale is the right stuff for this computer-animated adaptation full of verve and wit. Our title character (voiced by Mike Myers) is an agreeable enough ogre who wants to live his days in peace. When the diminutive Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) evicts local fairy-tale creatures (including the now-famous Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and the Gingerbread Man), they settle in the ogre's swamp and Shrek wants answers from Farquaad. A quest of sorts starts for Shrek and his new pal, a talking donkey (Eddie Murphy), where battles have to be won and a princess (Cameron Diaz) must be rescued from a dragon lair in a thrilling action sequence. The story is stronger than most animated fare, but it's the humor that makesShreka winner. The PG rating is stretched when Murphy and Myers hit their strides. The mild potty humor is fun enough for 10-year-olds but will never embarrass their parents.Shrekis never as warm and inspired as theToy Storyfilms, but the realistic computer animation and a rollicking soundtrack keep the entertainment in fine form. Now in 2009, we finally get Naruto Shippuden The Movie in English Dub. After watching it, for the first time the whole way through, I have to say that this movie was 110% better than I thought it would be. The action is great, and the story is even greater pitting Naruto and his freinds not only against the destruction of a village, but the possible destruction of the world. Naruto Shippuden The Movie from me, gets a perfect 5/5!! I can't wait for the second movie Bonds to come out dubbed.』
(Eh!) 『Yea this movie is alright not worth buying tho in the whole movie there is only one good fight seen between rock lee and some guy that uses earth and fire justu』
(A Nice Entry for the First Shippuden Moive) 『Naruto: Shippuden- The Movie is a great experience and first entry for a movie set in the Shippuden storyline period. The movie does a great job at capitilizing upon the fact that Naruto just returned to the Hidden Leaf Village and has not gone out on many missions nor has he seen everyone just yet. In fact in this movie when he teams up with Neji, Lee, and Sakura, the writers make it appear that this is Naruto's first time encountering Neji and Lee since his arrival. Generally speaking, the movie focuses on this team's mission of protecting a very important person and leading her to the designated destination. With evil afoot, they must use multiple tricks in their ninja handbooks to ensure success of their mission.
I loved it, and although most of them do not use any new jutsu since the first season of Naruto (possibly Lee uses more of the gates of opening than was seen during his fight against Gaara during the Chunin exams), it is memorable to sit back and listen to the jutsu (and nearly say word for word what the character says). I was also intrigued by the medical ninjutsu of the enemies.
The movie excels in being a great film for fans and some newcomers since it is light on the background material and easy on the narrative. I loved the incorporation of multiple 3D effects such as 3D environments and planes/enemies. It looked well put together and actually flowed with the 2D imagery. Music was also on key with the Naruto Shippuden theme appearing in the usual places and some "made for the movie" tunes pumping us up for the events.
For the DVD, my version seemed to lack the option for subtitles, and only included the English audio, no special features, nor subtitles. Cover art to the DVD is amazing with both the design on the disc, as well as the design of the cover. This is definitely a must buy for Naruto fans, even with the lack of special features (seemed the only movie that VIZ has made that has had numerous features was the first Bleach Movie).』

If you read between the lines the product description does say dubbed. I am sure Amazon will fix the error in the audio part when enough of you complain. As far as the dvd what can I say its Naruto, so it totally rocks. I like English dub, my daughter likes to watch the Japanese with subs so we are both happy with this release. And yes I gotta love the fact we get new release's early due to family that work in the right places, so enjoy this one when the rest of you get the chance. It totally ROCKS!』
(Is this movie dubbed into English?) 『I rated this a 3 because the listing says that the movie is in Japanese language with English subtitles, but the coming soon was in English. Is the listing wrong and it is in both Japanese and English language? Someone please let me know. Or Amazon please update the listing to make it clear. A special squad from the Village Hidden in the Leaves--Neji, Sakura, Rock Lee, and Naruto--is assigned to protect Shion on her journey there. Director Hajime Kamegaki uses CG to create a terracotta army copied from the celebrated figures from Emperor Qin Shi Huang's tomb in Xian. The scenes of marching clay automatons, impervious to ordinary weapons, pack a real punch, although they don't always blend with the drawn characters. Kamegaki balances these dire threats with plenty of physical comedy: Naruto boasts and blunders and stumbles; Rock Lee defeats his foe after eating a liquor-filled chocolate, re-creating his version of Jackie Chan's "drunken fist" technique in the "Chase for Sasuke" story arc. ForNarutofans, the movie is a must-have. (Rated Teen+ Older Teen, but suitable for ages 12 and older: violence, grotesque imagery, brief nudity, alcohol use)--Charles Solomon』

(not /quite/ so charming as one might like) 『This is a terrifically entertaining -- and clever -- film, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
But... If I might get serious...
Leonard Bernstein once said that no composer consciously sets out to write "insincere" music. "Enchanted" is a conscious parody of Disney style and content that, at the same time, tries to remain sincere. But parody is inherently un-sincere. It's difficult to spoof something while treating it ingenuously. The two work against each other.
This is most apparent in the film's best sequence -- the "Happy Little Working Song", which skewers "Whistle While You Work". The former brutally satirizes what is implicit in the latter -- dirty animals are cleaning up the place, including the dishes! Stephen Schwartz couldn't resist having Giselle acknowledge that they rats, roaches, and pigeons are "vermin", or having her sing:
"We'll keep singing without fail, otherwise we'd spoil it, Hosing down the garbage pail and scrubbing up the toilet.",
something the "real", naive Giselle would never sing. But this is a spoof, so why not? The sequence ends with a slap at "Disney cute" -- one of the pigeons eats one of the cockroaches. If we hadn't caught on that the film was a take-off, we know now.
The problem is that there's no easy way to balance sincerity and spoof. It's not unlike making a comic horror film. James Whale did it -- once -- and no one else has duplicated it, not even Sam Raimi. "Enchanted"'s script and direction lean on the sincere side, without going overboard on the send-up. But the result isn't sincere enough to draw any strong emotion, while the parody lacks "edge" -- except in the scene mentioned. There's no way this obviously tongue-in-cheek tone could have been continued throughout the rest of the film without -- well, spoiling it.
It would be unfair -- and insincere -- to ask Bill Kelly (the writer) and Kevin Lima (the director) to achieve what is virtually impossible. So I won't. Just enjoy "Enchanted" for what it is -- a Disney self-parody that's been a long time coming.
Parents should be aware that the PG rating includes "mild innuendo" -- /sexual/ innuendo, both straight and gay. It will probably go right over most toddlers' heads, but don't be surprised if you get the odd question or two. ("Mommy, why is that man smiling at the prince?")
This BD is typical of Disney, which is to say, gorgeous. Other than a game and some bloopers, there's nothing on the BD that wasn't on the DVD. But the animation, costumes, sets, and effects benefit greatly from high definition.』
(LOVE) 『Love this DVD, plays great and everything was in great condition. would buy from them again.』
(AMAZING MOVIE!) 『This is not only a great Disney creation but it's super funny and I think that a family could watch it together! Def. worth the $2.22 paid for it used-like new!』
(Disney proves that there's still some magic left in it) 『Enchanted (directed by Kevin Lima) is a modern day fairytale that weaves comedy, song and dance and storybook fantasies together. The result is a delightful Disney movie that puts a spin on the classic `fairytale' story.
The movie begins in Andalasia; an animated fairytale world full of merriment, song and adventure. Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) is a young, Snow White-esque character that spends her days cleaning her house, singing with her animal friends and awaiting the day her prince charming will come and sweep her off of her feet. He arrives one day in the form of Prince Edward (James Marsden). They fall in love on a whim and plan to marry the next day.
Edward's evil stepmother, Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon), however, wants the kingdom for herself and, in an attempt to get rid of her, pushes Giselle into a portal that leads to our world. She lands in New York City where she meets Robert Phillip (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey). Giselle must then choose between both worlds and along the way discovers what true love really is.
Amy Adams shines as the doe-eyed Giselle. Her innocence to the 'real' world she has tumbled into is both charming and humorous. She transitions from a naïve fairytale princess who is perfectly fine with having her prince rescue her to a woman who ends up saving the day. Adams shows us that Disney princesses are not merely along for the ride and that each and every one of them are independent souls capable of shaping their own destinies.
Marsden keeps us laughing with his sheer obliviousness to almost everything that is going on around him. The fact that a chipmunk (voiced by Jeff Bennett and Kevin Lima) just may be smarter than the prince is equally humorous. The fairytale characters reactions to New York City are also laugh out loud. The scene where Prince Edwards has to slay the beast (a NYC bus!) is clever and helps the audience to understand how tough a transition it's going to be for the animated characters. The thousands of Disney references are also fun to look for. Like discovering that Robert's secretary voiced Ariel in The Little Mermaid.
Enchanted is a light-hearted comedy that the entire family will enjoy. It masterfully strings together humor and songs that results in pure entertainment. By the end it will have even the most cynical person singing along. 』 『ENCHANTED - WIDESCREEN (DVD MOVIE)』 『Life is idyllic in the fairytale world where conflict is minimal and breaking into song solves every problem, but what happens when a princess from the fairy world gets magically transported into the real world?Enchantedbegins in the animated fairytale world of Andalasia where Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) is destined to marry Prince Edward (James Marsden) and live happily ever after. Problem is, Edward's step-mother Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) doesn't want to give up the throne and will do anything to get Giselle out of Edward's life. Queen Narissa's solution is to push Giselle into a well that magically lands Giselle smack in the middle of the real world--the center of Time Square in New York City, to be exact. This launches the live-action portion of the film where Giselle immediately realizes that things are frighteningly different in this new world and that she is ill-prepared for the callous ways of the people who inhabit it. Giselle finds herself alone on a stormy night in the wrong end of town, but a chance encounter with Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his princess-loving daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey) leads to a warm, safe place to spend the night and the beginnings of a complicated, yet compelling relationship. As Giselle begins to question the fairy-tale truths she's always inherently believed, Robert's outlook on life and love also begins to change significantly. Parallels to the classicDisneyfairytales,Cinderella,Snow WhiteandSleeping Beautyabound in the form of a King's and Queen's ball, small animals and rodents who clean house when called, the threat of poisoned apples, characters impulsively breaking into song, and the power of the kiss of true love and the absurd juxtaposition of fairytale idealism and stark reality is hilariously funny. Features music by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz ofPocahontasandThe Hunchback of Notre Damefame,Wicked'sBroadway Elpheba Idina Menzel as Nancy, and even a brief appearance by former Princess voice talent Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas).Enchantedis one of the best, most entertainingDisneyfilms of the year. I related to Clark quite a lot during his time on the road: the struggle, the pain, the loss--definitely made me relive some memories I wasn't too keen on reliving ever again.
This season also showed how evil Lionel Luthor really was and how he stopped at nothing--utterly nothing--to create his empire and, eventually, receive power that most definitely, in this case, fell into the wrong hands.
Clark got a new superpower, this time his super hearing, which was done way cool and not just some fire-drill-like noise ringing in his ears.
I loved this season despite how bleak it was and was thrilled to death when Christopher Reeve reprised his role as Dr. Virgil Swann. The mythology episodes in this season made me grin ear-to-ear, making my inner fanboy squeal like a girl.
This season was great and had a cliffhanger that made me want to kick in my TV. What a long summer that one was.
Year Three was awesome. Go see it.

(awesome) 『IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN SMALLVILLE YET FROM START TO FINISH, YOU ARE TRULY MISSING THE BEST TV SERIES EVER CREATED!!! AN ABSOLUTE MUST SEE』
(pleased) 『i am very pleased with my product, and its very prompt service. thank you dearly...』 『Clark Kent lives in Smallville, but in many ways he is out of this world, and so is this spectacular series that provides a fascinating spin on Superman lore. Season 3 is marked by Clark's inability to overpower destiny and its pressing call for his return home. Clark, who has left Smallville for Metropolis, returns to Smallville to help his parents, who are desperately trying to save their cash-strapped farm and is happily surprised to find that Lex Luthor has survived a deadly jet crash. Lex and Clark's ill-fated camaraderie is strengthened by this miracle but causes tension in the close-knit Kent family, as Jonathan fears that Lex will emulate Lionel and his unscrupulous ways, even while Lex has tried to establish his own identity.』 『Truth, identity, and responsibility are the cornerstones ofSmallville's exceptional third season. When viewers left Clark (Tom Welling) at the end of season 2, he was feeling his oats in Metropolis with the help of a red Kryptonite ring, but by the opening of season 3, he must return to Smallville to not only help his parents save their farm, but seek some resolution in his relationships with Lana (Kristin Kreuk) and Lex (Michael Rosenbaum), who's returned from his abandonment at the conclusion of the previous season. Lex himself must deal with some shocking revelations regarding his relationship with his sinister father Lionel (John Glover, magnetic as always), and Lana becomes involved with a new figure in town, the mysterious Adam Knight (Lost's Ian Somerholder), who may or may not be a certain caped crusader. And speaking of heroes in disguise, the season's finale introduces Kara, a young woman with powers similar to Clark's--could she in fact be his sister, known best to comic book fans as Supergirl? Season 3 is chock full of such intriguing moments, including an appearance by futureDaily Planeteditor Perry White (Michael McKean, the real-life husband of series star Annette O'Toole) in "Perry," helmed bySupergirlfilm director Jeannot Szwarc; the return of villains Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Shawn Ashmore, and Jesse Metcalfe from seasons 1 and 2 (in "Asylum"); the departure of series regular Samuel L. Jones; and a intrigue-fraught final turn by Christopher Reeve as Dr. Swann ("Legacy").
The boxed set matches the high quality of the season with some terrific extras, including commentary on three episodes by series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, along with Rosenbaum, Allison Mack (Chloe), and Glover. Gough and Millar also contribute commentary to a battery of deleted scenes, and Mack's "Chloe Chronicles" returns for another go-round. The supplemental features are rounded out by a behind-the-scenes featurette, an amusing gag reel, and an Easter egg with Rosenbaum conducting some offbeat interviews.--Paul Gaita』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Loved It) 『I saw part of the Tin Man on TV and missed one episode. When I saw I could purchase a copy I was tickled pink. This was a really good science fiction version of the Wizard of Oz and was extremely well done. Family members are now borrowing it and giving the same thumbs up.』
(Tin Man - 21st Century Wizard of Oz) 『Tin Man is a 21st Century adult send-off of The Wizard of Oz, first made as a feature length film, then broadcast in 3 parts on the Sci-Fi channel, and now, thankfully, available in DVD 2-disk set. It's marvelous! Amazingly innovative storyline, full of surprises and some serious twists on the original story, but which does not ignore the most important elements of the original cast and story line of Oz. Dorothy Gale, the original Dorothy character, even puts in a "black-and-white" cameo appearance toward the end of the film, handing off her legacy to the "new" Dorothy - now known as DG.
The plot line keeps you guessing from start to finish! The Wicked Witch of the West appears to be absolutely gorgeous until the 3rd hour of the film, the Wizard of Oz, played by Richard Dreyfus, is still a hero, but it's DG's father who helps DG most to save the world, and saving the world of the "Outer Zone" - (OZ) is what this tale is all about. The Tin Man is an amazing hero as well, as is the scarecrow. There is nothing juvenile about this tale of magic, bravery, the building of trust between friends and the recognition of true heroism. There's plenty of humor, surprises and action in this story, and I found it thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. As I am a 61 year old grandmother with broad interests, and many ways to spend my leisure time, I can say this film is definitely worth buying, and watching, again and again!』
(Tin Man review) 『If you love "The Wizard of Oz", you will be blown away by this updated version. It's a fun and edgey play on the original storyline with a tinman, a man without a brain, a cowardly lion, and a wicked witch. And let's not forget Dorothy and Toto, too.』
(Interesting but falls flat) 『Alright Zoey was just terrible, she just couldn't act at all, just made a zoned out face. But the overall concept was pretty interesting, but i just cant deal with the horrible acting.』
(Fantasy and Sci-Fi have never been incorporated any better!!!!) 『I just finished watching Tin Man and I am left with total amazement!
I honestly thought that this made for TV mini series movie would be decent, and I can tell you I am truly wrong. It was not decent, but truly superb all the way around.
I thought that the alteration of an original script icon being that of the historic Wizard of Oz, would make for an interesting film, but unable to captivate the viewer as a result of too much interfering with the original theme. Again, I was wrong. I am in shock and awe for how good this film is. I honestly believe it is the best TV mini series I have ever seen. My past favorite was Stephen King's Storm of the Century, but this tops that for sure.
If you have the films, The Princess Bride, The Goonies, Indiana Jones, The Neverending Story, Robin Hood, The Watcher in the Woods, and any other great classics that I have forgotten, and enjoyed those, than this is nothing short of those classics! This film incorporates themes from all of the movies listed above.
While the duration of this film is nearly 4.5 hours you will realize throughout the film that the development of the plot really grows on you. This is why I had to watch this movie in one sitting. I honestly don't like movies that are more than 2-2.5 hours long. I remember sitting in the theater for Gangs of NY and I wanted to leave after the 2 hour mark. With The Tin Man, I couldn't believe that 3hrs past and I was sad that there was only 90 minutes left!
This movie is a true masterpiece for how technology can be a great asset to incorporate many genres of an adventure/fantasy/sci-fi movie into one film without taking away from the great script and storytelling that goes on. You will feel emotion for these characters and think about your own family and the ties that you have. This theme makes the movie suitable for the entire family, whether you're a 32 year old adult as myself, or an 8 year old boy or girl.
It is important to realize that this is a new version of the Wizard of OZ. There will never be another original, but there is no reason why this film, Tin Man, cannot become a classic. If you are expecting a remake or close theme to the original I guarantee after 45mins you will have forgotten about those expectations.
I remember hearing about mixed reviews of the Return to OZ, 1985, and I personally have not viewed it because it got a lot of bad reviews probably because it tried to follow to the original story line too much. Well folk, Tin Man doesn't do that! It is a modern version of how power, technology, and society in the hands of evil can be developed.
If the original Wizard of OZ wasn't so powerful of a tale there is no way such a movie like, The Tin Man, could ever be produced.
The acting and cast were great all around in this film. I am so happy to have found this movie and I am quite surprised I never heard of it. The only reason I did is because I was searching for info on the new 70th Anniversary Edition of the original Wizard of OZ that is coming out on Blu-Ray at the end of September of 2009.
There you have it folks. I think I gave a decent review for how great this film is without discussing the plot in great detail.

(The ghost with the most) 『After 20 years, this oddball dark comedy hasn't lost its irreverent impact. Up-and-coming director Tim Burton's playfully twisted visual style runs rampant through this movie, saturating nearly every frame. It even turns actor Michael Keaton into sort of a vile living cartoon, the one&only Beetlejuice, a manic bio-exorcist with sinister agendas. The film also boosted the resumes of terrific talents like Jeffrey Jones&Catherine O'Hara (here as an annoying trendy couple transplanted from New York to a small Connecticut town). The film helped maked stars of Geena Davis&Alec Baldwin (as the kind, hapless ghostly couple) and Winona Ryder (as the ex-New Yorker's death-obsessed daughter, Lydia). But this is really Keaton's movie all the way, in spite of a good cast. The art direction, make-up&special effects have Burton's distinctive stamp all over them. I was slightly disappointed that this 20th Anniversary Edition didn't have at least interviews or a making-of featurette (although it includes a handful of the delightful "Beetlejuice" animated episodes). However, it's a little offbeat comedy that's achieved cult status over the years (all you have to do is view it to figure out why). Just don't say the title three times!』
(Blueray: Great movie. Blue-Ray-Okay) 『I have the DVD, and added the Blue-Ray. A very good movie. It is very re-watchable. It's also a good opportunity to view some famous actors in much younger days. A much younger Alec Baldwin is hardly recognizable. Michael Keaton really isn't recognizable due to the makeup used, even though he played a great part. Wynona Ryder plays a great part as always. Gina Davis and Catherine O'Hara played their parts well. Although the PQ was very good, I really didn't see any appreciable improvement in the PQ or Audio, over the earlier DVD. I have a 5.1 system, with Polk Speakers.
There is only one disc. There was no paper insert. The separate audio soundtrack (on the same Blue-Ray disc), failed to play on my Panasonic BD60 (with all firmware updates). Everything else played. If you have the DVD, I don't see any benefit in getting the Blue-Ray. I guess that's why the price dropped to close to single digits. I'm really starting to question the benefits of Blue-Ray over DVDs. In most Blue-Ray movies, I've watched, extras, present on earlier releases, have been removed. I thought that was a major selling point in the Blue-Ray movement.
』
(1988 Tim Burton film.) 『This was Winona Ryder's first feature film, next she starred in Heathers. Michael Keaton (Batman) plays a goofy character in this film, that annoys the living and the undead as well. Directed by Tim Burton (Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood Jr.) who's unique style and vision, resembles a cartoon at times, with his use of visual effects, make-up and lighting. A dark comedy, that focuses more upon the humor and less upon the horror.』
(Always a pleasure) 『Never a disappointment, always a laugh and since its in blu-ray its a joy too!!!』 『Movie DVD』 『Before makingBatman, director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton teamed up for this popular black comedy about a young couple (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) whose premature death leads them to a series of wildly bizarre afterlife exploits. As ghosts in their own New England home, they're faced with the challenge of scaring off the pretentious new owners (Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones), whose daughter (Winona Ryder) has an affinity for all things morbid. Keaton plays the mischievous Beetlejuice, a freelance "bio-exorcist" who's got an evil agenda behind his plot to help the young undead newlyweds. The film is a perfect vehicle for Burton's visual style and twisted imagination, with clever ideas and gags packed into every scene.Beetlejuiceis also a showcase for Keaton, who tackles his title role with maniacal relish and a dark edge of menace.--Jeff Shannon』

The disks packaging is quite fragile with the plastic disk holders separating at the first use. There is also some quality issue with some of the disks that rumble loudly while spinning and will sometime not load unless the CD tray is opened and then closed a few times. I have several DVD players and only one of those is able to play any and all disks. Regardless, I still recommend it for someone that has a good high end DVD player and has a little patience...』
(A Five-Star Show in a Three-Star Package) 『First of all, let me say that this is a 5-star series in my opinion...this is probably my favorite series that was on TV - I've watched it ever since I was a kid. This being said, there are some problems with the product that a buyer should be aware of. The trays that hold the DVDs do not hold them well - a few of the DVDs fell out of the trays the first time I used this set. Also, I did not like the set up at all (sometimes the trays wouldn't fit together properly while trying to put the set away). I went out and bought a case to hold the DVDs instead, which in itself, is not a big deal, but if you pay the $300 or so for this, the organization of the DVDs should be a lot better in my opinion. Also, if you do not know what happens in the episode according to the title only, you will have a problem with this set. There is no episode/disc guide, so you will have problems selecting the episode you want to watch. Also, one more thing - although there are some cool things in the special features disc, I really thought that the disc would contain more interesting things. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing John DeLancie start everything off, and some of the features were interesting, I just expected a lot more to be on this disc then what there actually was.
3 1/2 stars (for the product). 5 stars for the show.』
(defective disks) 『I purchased the Star Trek: The Next Generation - Complete Series and am disappointed. There are disks that do not play at all. Not quite the complete series I guess.』
(Great show, terrible packaging) 『As others have said, the discs come in cheap trays that prone to breaking (several of them were broken when I received the set) and the trays are held together by nothing more than packing tape which the trays have a tendency to separate from. For the price of a brand new set, one would think the spartan packaging could have been upgraded.
But, the series is great and anyone looking to buy this set already knows that.』
(Damaged Goods) 『I am not very happy about this product - the seller stated that while the packaging had been damaged, the Dvds were in good shape - that was not true at all. There were at least 4 dvds just in the first season group that could not be viewed.』 『Finally, the complete, epic sci-fi television series, Star Trek: The Next Generation is available in a complete series set for the first time ever. Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the landmark series and own all 176 classic episodes in one definitive collector’s boxed set, featuring all-new special features. This is the definitive release that fans have been waiting for!』 『AfterStar Warsand the successful big-screenStar Trekadventures, it's perhaps not so surprising that Gene Roddenberry managed to convince purse string-wielding studio heads in the 1980s that a Next Generation would be both possible and profitable. But the political climate had changed considerably since the 1960s, the Cold War had wound down, and we were now living in the Age of Greed. To be successful a second time,Star Trekhad to change too.
A writer's guide was composed with which to sell and define where theTrekuniverse was in the 24th Century. The United Federation of Planets was a more appealing ideology to an America keen to see where the Reagan/Gorbachev faceoff was taking them. Starfleet's meritocratic philosophy had always embraced all races and species. Now Earth's utopian history, featuring the abolishment of poverty, was brandished prominently and proudly. The newEnterprise, NCC 1701-D, was no longer a ship of war but an exploration vessel carrying families. The ethical and ethnical flagship also carried a former enemy (the Klingon Worf, played by Michael Dorn), and its Chief Engineer (Geordi LaForge) was blind and black. From every politically correct viewpoint, Paramount executives thought the future looked just swell!
Roddenberry's feminism now contrasted a pilot episode featuring ship's Counsellor Troi (Marina Sirtis) in a mini-skirt with her ongoing inner strengths and also those of Dr. Crusher (Gates McFadden) and the short-lived Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby). The arrival of Whoopi Goldberg in season 2 as mystic barkeep Guinan is a great example of the good the originalTrekdid for racial groups--Goldberg has stated that she was inspired to become an actress in large part through seeing Nichelle Nichols' Uhura. Her credibility as an actress helped enormously alongside the strong central performances of Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard), Jonathan Frakes (First Officer Will Riker), and Brent Spiner (Data) in defining another wholly believable environment once again populated with well-defined characters.Star Trek, it turned out, did not depend for its success on any single group of actors.
Like its predecessor in the 1960s,TNGpioneered visual effects on TV, making it an increasingly jaw-dropping show to look at. And thanks also to the enduring success of the original show, phasers, tricorders, communicators and even phase inverters were already familiar to most viewers. But while technology was a useful tool in most crises, it now frequently seemed to be the cause of them too, as the show's writers continually warned about the dangers of over-reliance on technology (the Borg were the ultimate expression of this maxim). The word "technobabble" came to describe a weakness in manyTNGscripts, which sacrificed the social and political allegories of the original and relied instead upon invented technological faults and their equally fictitious resolutions to provide drama within theEnterprise's self-contained society. (The holodeck's safety protocol override seemed to be next to the light switch given the number of times crew members were trapped within.) This emphasis on scientific jargon appealed strongly to an audience who were growing up for the first time in the late 1980s with the home computer--and gave rise to the clichéd image of the nerdyTrekfan.
Like in the originalTrek, it was in the stories themselves that much of the show's success is to be found. That pesky Prime Directive kept moral dilemmas afloat ("Justice"/"Who Watches the Watchers?"/"First Contact"). More "what if" scenarios came out of time-travel episodes ("Cause and Effect"/"Time's Arrow"/"Yesterday's Enterprise"). And there were some episodes that touched on the political world, such as "The Arsenal of Freedom" questioning the supply of arms, "Chain of Command" decrying the torture of political prisoners and "The Defector", which was called "The Cuban Missile Crisis of The Neutral Zone" by its writer. The show ran for more than twice as many episodes as its progenitor and therefore had more time to explore wider ranging issues. But the choice of issues illustrates the change in the social climate that had occurred with the passing of a couple of decades. "Angel One" covered sexism; "The Outcast" was about homosexuality; "Symbiosis"--drug addiction; "The High Ground"--terrorism; "Ethics"--euthanasia; "Darmok"--language barriers; and "Journey's End"--displacement of Indians from their homeland. It would have been unthinkable for the original series to have tackled most of these.
TNGcould so easily have been a failure, but it wasn't. It survived a writer's strike in its second year, the tragic death of Roddenberry just afterTrek's 25th anniversary in 1991, and plenty of competition from would-be rival franchises. Yes, its maintenance of an optimistic future was appealing, but the strong stories and readily identifiable characters ensured the viewers' continuing loyalty. --Paul Tonks』
