(Where is the sequel?)
『excellent I owned mine since it came out and had to buy another because everyone keeps borrowing my copy』

(Great movie!!)
『I think this movie is the best one that adults can watch and still see the fairy tale stories that most of us grew up on except in a twisted different way.』

(More, please.)
『There are enough synopses available for this miniseries that I do not feel obligated to contribute one of my own. I will simply say that I enjoyed my viewing of "The 10th Kingdom" thoroughly and wish that a follow-up or two (or three...or more; I'm not too greedy) had been greenlighted by the studios. I have always loved fairy tales, and in particular loved that, though often comic, this series gave a nod to the darker sides of the original tales which were bleached or lost in other retellings.』

(The 10th Kingdom - a fairy tale for adults)
『Three inept trolls, an evil queen, a wolf for a hero, a blind woodsman called Juliet and a prince turned into a dog, this mini series has it all. Add a heroine with emotional issues and a slightly overweight Snow White (played by Camryn Mannheim) and magic mushrooms that sing A Whiter Shade of Pale, and you have all the ingredients for a rollicking magical romp through all 10 Kingdoms. This DVD contains a host of famous faces and a big dollop of humour. I'd give it 6 stars out of 5!

(It was just how what I expected and was in great condition!)
『The dvd set arrived promptly and sooner than I expected it too. It was packaged well and appeared to be brand new. I would definitly purchase from this buyer again.』
『At the edge of the mortal world lies a mystical vortex which leads to the Nine Kingdoms a fantastic land where fairy tales are reinvented... and not with happily-ever-after results! An evil queen (Dianne Wiest) has just doomed Prince Wendell (Daniel Lapaine) to life as a dog. His quest to recapture the throne leads him through a portal to the mythical Tenth Kingdom... Central Park! With the help of ordinary mortals Virginia (Kimberly Williams) and Tony (John Larroquette) they battle evil in a parallel universe of vile trolls goblins and every fairy tale character imaginable. Stunning visual effects and a stellar cast include Scott Cohen Rutger Hauer Camryn Manheim and Ed O'Neill dominates this epic adventure that will enchant audiences of all ages.System Requirements:Starring: Ann-Margret Scott Cohen Rutger Hauer John Larroquette Camryn Manheim and Ed O'Neill Directed By: David Carson and Herbert Wise Running Time: 417 minutes Color Presented in "Standard" formatFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: CHILDREN/FAMILY Rating: NR UPC: 707729127185 Manufacturer No: 12718』
『This epic 10-hour miniseries from the Emmy-winning writer ofGulliver's Travelswas a ratings bust on television, but on video and DVD, where it can be enjoyed at one's leisure, it has a better chance to cast its magical spell. Kimberly Williams has never been more enchanting than as Virginia, a waitress who still lives with her janitor father (John Larroquette) and yearns for something exciting to happen to her. Her wish comes true when she and her father are transported from New York City into a dimension that, with apologies to Rod Serling, can only be called the Fairy Tale Zone; nine kingdoms populated by characters from fairy tales of yore. They team up with a dog who's really a prince--Wendell, grandson of Snow White--changed into canine form by the evil Queen (Dianne Wiest), who plots to usurp Wendell's throne. Father, daughter, and his royal dogness are relentlessly pursued through the nine kingdoms by the Troll King (Ed O'Neill) and his three bumbling and horrible children, and the conflicted Wolf (Scott Cohen), who is allied with the Queen but, with the aid of some Oprah-esque self-help books, tames his inner beast and falls in love with Virginia. The 10th Kingdomis a special effects extravaganza. There is indeed, as one character marvels, magic to behold here. But despite the Hallmark brand name and the presence of a grown-up Snow White (Camryn Manheim) and Cinderella (Ann-Margret), bewitched animals, magic mirrors, and trolls, this is not kid's stuff. It can get scary, surprisingly violent, and quite intense; you know, just like real fairy tales.--Donald Liebenson

(final fantasy 7 advent children review)
『this is a amazing movie with so beautiful graphique, event wall disney can't do better.』

(NO ZACK ANIMATED FILM!)
『I have seen this movie like a 1000 times, it is beautifully made, if not a bit confusing plot wise (I have played the game like 1000 times too, so my confusion is not for lack of understanding of the FFVII universe)

But this is not what this review is about. I am reviewing the BluRay and lack of respect to us fans. I got the BluRay today and was VERY disappointed to find out the Zack animated short is not included AGAIN! I thought this thing would have EVERYTHING. If Transformers' 2 BluRay can have 6 hours of special features... well. Instead we only get the new Danzel short and a disappointingly short list of the same stuff we got on the DVD... no Zack short though, to me this feels like an excuse to squeeze more money out of us.

I previously bough the two disc DVD, in which of course, since there was a SPECIAL "Limited Edition Collector Set" whatever they call it, edition coming out at some point (which sold/sales for $49.99) wasn't included either. It was only reserved for those who forked out the cash. I thought, that by now, SquareEnix know that they got just about all they can from the DVD sales, so they should have included BOTH shorts in the BluRay plus whatever other incredible footage and revised scenes they claim to have, is not lack of space (neither was on the DVD) is just pure disregard for the fans who follow them even though they are the KINGS of delays and overrated hype. It disappoints me to see whoever decides what was to be included in the special features (or not), holding out on us fans like this. What, are they going to release a BluRay special edition with some fancy cover and charge $100 bucks for it just to get a 20 minute short film!? Do they really expect us to buy every release they put out there? I Guess I should just buy the most expensive one and shut up, but that is not the point.

I rate this a 3 because the movie is enjoyable and you do get the 1080p HD experience, but that's it. If you have the DVD, save your money, or buy another BluRay you don't have...like Transformers 2 lol.

(Now It's a Movie)
『I kept track of the evolution of this movie. At first it was just going to be some 45 minute OAV, then what i call a Disney-length movie (about 72 minutes), and I never took it seriously as a movie. I thought it was just a sad attempt at making money off the fans. Then they extended it out to a full-length movie, and i got excited. I saw it. It was a fun ride, but it kinda left me dazed and confused. I knew the story of FF7 (though i had never finished the game), at least enough to know what was going on in general, but this story seemed like an excuse for the action that took up more than half the movie. It was rushed, the whole movie looked very gray and depressing, the transitions were very rough, and a bunch of other small nitpicky things annoyed me. I think i gave the original cut 5 stars at the time, but in retrospect, it was more of a 4. High marks for the animation being far beyond what we get in America for direct-to-DVD, and for the action being so wonderfully insane that it made my eyes tired.

This release deals with the big issue that kept the original cut from being a real movie and not just a movie for FF7 fans. The story. They really fleshed it out, and instead of trying to pick up where the game left off and continue that story, the additions have served to finally give this its own story (and one that fits the title much better). And like any decent movie based on a story told in another media (Serenity), you don't have to know what happened before, but there are obviously things that will be more significant to those that do, but mostly in a nostalgic sense. The pacing is also a lot better, so it doesn't feel so rushed.

They've added more than just talking though. Many of the action sequences have been extended and revamped, including the final duel (which definitely pushes this above the PG-13 rating of the original cut). There are a few more location shots here and there which are easy to miss, but help with the pacing. And this cut seemed more colorful. It's still pretty gray, but things like Cloud's shirt looking blue, and Vincent's cape now being bright red seemed to pop out at me. It also seems like the characters actually look beaten, bruised, and dirty during the fights, and i don't remember it being done quite so obviously before.

The only thing that bugged me about this is that it's only on Blu-Ray (i just got a PS3, so i finally got to see this) and that you can tell how old some of the sequences are (early in the movie's development, after they decided to do a full-length movie, new footage for Complete). But that's because they've been working on this for so long. I noticed that in the original cut. But unless you're as visually picky as me, it won't bug you too much.

So with all the additions, big and small, and even with it's shortcomings, Advent Children is finally a real movie to me. And it now earns a full 5 stars from me beyond all doubt.』

(fantasic movie)
『new scenes helped make the movie flow much better. visually stunning on 1080p tele. a bit sparse on extras beyond the film. overall a very solid addition to your sci-fi blue ray collection. and def a must for final fantasy fans.』

(Nice)
『Great images, great sound and a nice movie for gamers and Blu-Ray lovers!
Have Fun!』

『Continuing the storyline based on the hit Playstation® gameFinal Fantasy VII, two years have passed since the ruins of Midgar stand as a testament to the sacrifices made in order to bring peace. However, the world will soon face a new menace. A mysterious illness is spreading fast. Old enemies are astir. And Cloud, who walked away from the life of a hero to live in solitude, must step forward yet again . . .』
『The question facing any viewer of the Japanese CG featureFinal Fantasy VII: Advent Childrenis: do you have to know the games on which it’s based in order to understand the film? And the answer is: it certainly helps. But even complete novices (i.e., most parents) in theFinal Fantasyworld will find some entertainment in its wealth of fantasy-based action, and the animation never fails to astonish. Picking up two years after an epic battle between the forces of good (represented by brooding soldier Cloud) and evil (Cloud’s former general, Sephiroth),FFVIIopens in the devastated city of Midgard, whose youthful occupants suffer from a ghastly disease known as Geostigma. A trio of brothers arrives with what appears to be a cure for the plague, but their gesture conceals a more sinister purpose: to revive Sephiroth and bring about the end of the world. Cloud and his companions must once again rise to the occasion to stop the siblings and the revived Sephiroth from unleashing total destruction. Complex and self-referential to the point of occasional incomprehension,Final Fantasy VIIwill definitely be most appreciated by fans of the game series, but if others can look past the numbing dialogue and frenetic action (which is a bit too intense for very young children), the film offers a carefree and action-packed viewing experience. The two-disc set contains the original Japanese language version of the film as well as an English-dubbed edition (Rachel Leigh Cook and Christy Carlson Romano, among others, provide the vocal talent) and a version edited for the Venice Film Festival. A 30-minute featurette that recaps theFinal Fantasystory up toVII, as well as a making-of documentary, deleted scenes, and promotions for futureFinal Fantasy VIIgames and products round out the extras.--Paul Gaita

(Be sure to see this one.)
『Another great movie starring Tom Hanks. I like a movie with a moral. The interaction between the charactors is great. This is a three hour movie that you never feel is a long movie. It is that good. It's the kind of movie that you buy candy to eat while watching it and the movie is so good you forget to eat the candy. Buy it. You'll want to see this over again.』

(Somewhat pleased)
『I was kinda disappointed in this product. I loved the movie but several times during the movie, the movie would suddently stop as if it was scratched then it would start back playing. This happened at least 4 times. I would go back to the previous scene just to see if it would play through but it would stop again. I took the cd out to make sure that there were no scrathces and there was no visible sign of scratches.』

『Great service, came in a timely fashion. Has a couple of blurps in it. Enjoyed watching the movie though.』

(A must see movie)
『All i can say is, if you haven't seen this movie, SEE IT!!
It's from the awesome mind of Stephen King.』

『Overall, a very pleasant transaction. This item was delivered within the deadline and in the condition promised. I would gladly buy from this seller again.』
『Oscar nomimated best picure adaptation of a Stephen King novel about a gentle giant of a prisoner with supernatural powers, who brings a sense of spirit and humanity to his guards and fellow inmates. Oscar award winning actor Tom Hanks heads the cast in this emotionally riveting story.』

(Still Funny)
『Great DVD box, too bad that it is Region 1, so it is not playable on DVD players in Europe. However, with some adjustments it is playable on the PC. Not available in Europe, so this was the only way.

Great collection of old Tunes, that are still funny after all those years...timeless...』

(cartoons that really made you laugh)
『These old time bugs bunny cartoons brought back memories when cartoons were really funny. All baby boomers should see these cartoons and remember what was a true Saturday morning cartoon fun time watching tv..』

(LOVE Speedy + SlowPOKE)
『I bought this cause my family and I love Speedy Gonzales but we crave Slowpoke Rodriguez! My father-in-law recently adopted a stray cat and named him Slowpoke Rodriguez. Disk three is all Speedy plus two cartoons featuring Slowpoke Rodriguez. We haven't watch the other three disks yet - but this collections has the classic cartoons I grew up watching on Saturday Morning TV when that was the only time they were available for viewing. Good value for all the cartoons in this collection. I gave it four stars - cause we wanted MORE Slow -POKE』

(Bad Collection)
『so happy to be able to give this review.. I grew up on Bugs and Daffy, and its awful to see that Warner would go to the trouble to petty-ly try to rip us all off by putting in maybe a total of 4 decent cartoons, and the remaining 3 discs of the ones that you would slip to the kitchen to eat something long enough for this episode to end and another to start.. shame on you.. we want a best of Bugs, and we mean the very best of one after another..』

(Classic!)
『This 4th volume is a welcome addition to any fan of the Warner Brothers short subjects.』
『More Looney Tunes. Your wish is our command. Because in this 4-disc set are 60 more of the most looneytic Looney Tunes ever unleashed on rabbits, pigs, mice or cats. Indeed, some have never before been on home video! Disc 1 features the tall, gray and haresome one. Disc 2 is all pig. Disc 3 is all about Speedy. And Disc 4 is the cats meow. One thing: to watch these, you must be as tall as this sign. Wrong disclaimer. Read the one in the box below. Got the idea? Now have fun』
『Like previous installments, theLooney Tunes Golden Collection, Volume 4mixes favorites from the Warner Bros. archives with relatively obscure older works. Chuck Jones' "Mississippi Hare" and Friz Freleng's "Sahara Hare" and "Knighty-Knight Bugs" (which won an Oscar) offer hilarious performances by Bugs. Two of Jones' earliest films, "The Night Watchman" and "Conrad the Sailor" prefigure his use of subtle expressions in his later cartoons. The disc of shorts by Frank Tashlin includes "Plane Daffy": pigeon see-duck-tress Hatta Mari anticipates Jayne Mansfield in such later Tashlin live-action comedies asWill Success Spoil Rock Hunter?

Not all of these films have aged as gracefully. Younger viewers will probably not catch the references to Charlie McCarthy, Bill Robinson, and other old film and radio stars. The Speedy Gonzalez cartoons feature ethnic humor that seems embarrassing today; it's also crashingly unfunny. Each disc offers a disclaimer about stereotypes, noting, "they were wrong then and are wrong today."

The discs are loaded with extras that range from a partial set of storyboards for "Sahara Hare" to three of the "Private Snafu" shorts, which were made for the "Army-Navy Screen Magazine" during WW II. The oddest extra is the documentaryBugs Bunny Superstar, which infuriated many of the Warner Bros. artists when it was released in 1977. Much of its information should be taken with a grain of salt. (Unrated, suitable for ages 6 and older: cartoon violence, some ethnic stereotypes, mild risqué humor, alcohol&tobacco use)--Charles Solomon

『This US release is missing several special features found on the international version. Buy from amazon uk.』

(John Carpenter's The Thing)
『I just purchased the Blu-Ray version of The Thing. I have previosly owned this film on laserdisc and DVD. I found the Blu-Ray version to have very sharp color and contrast and to have very clean video. The sound has improved from the DVD version. I compared it to my DVD version played on my PlayStation 3 and the Blu-Ray is definitely an improvement over the DVD. If you are looking for extras, there aren't any.』

(80's style suspense horror)
『It's been so long since I last saw this movie, I was not so sure what I expected given it is an effects movie, over a quarter of a century old. High def transfers can really pick holes in an aging movie. Surprise, surprise though, it's a great transfer, and the movie is still suspenseful and effectively ratches up the tension. The in camera effects do not date as much as earlier cgi effects or optical effects have, and any lack of effectiveness is purely down to different audience expectation rather than problems with the movie. .. though those early scenes of Russell tapping away on a huge chess playing machine and the doctor's computer program investigating the prognoses for the team (which he times on his pocket watch!) all do date the movie more than the effects do. Dark scenes with lighting by flares or torches shows up clearly, and the wide external shots of snowbound British Columbia (filling in for Antarctica) look fantastic.
The movie itself is a great example of festering paranoia, as the research team are infiltrated by a `thing' which can take the shape or form of anything it comes in contact with (via some extraordinary squelchy and messy intermediate phases of course). No-one knows who is real and who is not, as exemplified by the still classic blood test scene, one of Carpenter's best. Even the ending is one that leaves question marks the likes of which few modern `safe' movies would try. It's as if Carpenter is more in tune with the uncertainty and paranoia of 70's America, and is unwilling to embrace the burgeoning confidence and success of the 80's.
It's not for the squeamish, and is of its time, but is a classic of its genre and a treat to see on Blu-ray.

(Classic Horror Movie...Classic John Carpenter)
『They just don't make them like this anymore. Special effects extravaganza of a suspense/sci-fi/horror movie.』

(Classic done HD)
『I have always loved this movie, glad to see it on blu-ray when i decided to buy it, looks at least ten times better!』
『Horror-meister John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape from New York) teams Kurt Russell's outstanding performance with incredible visuals to build this chilling version of the classic The Thing. In the winter of 1982, a twelve-man research team at a remote Antarctic research station discovers an alien buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Soon unfrozen, the form-changing alien wreaks havoc, creates terror and becomes one of them.』

(Great shows to watch repeatedly)
『Loved the entire four seasons of the Pretender. I watch them repeatedly because there are always hidden meanings that I catch the second or
third time around.』

(the pretender)
『I have bought the first to seasons of the oretender and enjoyed them with much delight. I looked everywhere for seasons three and four. And i knew that I needed to go no more than Amazom.com to find it. Seasons three and four was better than the first two. Myself and my husband are hooked. So much that when i ordered 3&4 I also ordered the movie set for the program. I think that we need more good entertainment on T.V. like this program other then another reality show.

(Buy the regular version of this DVD)
『The quality of this Blu Ray DVD was not so great. This movie was so-so. I personally liked the Chronicles of Riddick better. So I would recommend buying the regular DVD if you really liked this movie.』

(Very slick sci-fi.)
『I love this movie. Too bad in the sequel (and video game) they deviated from the original concept of Riddick being an anti-hero badass from some space ghetto to being a supernaturally powered alien(?) from furia or wherever. Sequel is still fun, but this movie is where it's at.』

(Pitch Black)
『This is Vin Diesel best movie this is what got him started this was so good that everything else he put out doesnt compare. A little about the movie... a crew is travelling when all of a sudden the captains on the ship are awaken to their space ship falling apart and are forced to land on a mysterious planet where there are creatures that only come out at night and the planet is about to go dark and then mayhem occurs this movie rocks!』

(GREAT RESOURCE FOR MOVIES)

『loved pitch black one of my fav's a must have for sci fi fans and horror fans-- action packed this one is a hit!!!!』
『Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 03/31/2009 Run time: 119 minutes Rating: Pg13』
『Owing a major debt toAlienand its cinematic spawn,Pitch Blackis a guilty pleasure that surpasses expectations. As he did withThe Arrival, director David Twohy revitalizes a derivative story, allowing you to forgive its flaws and submit to its visceral thrills. Under casual scrutiny, the plot's logic crumbles like a stale cookie, but it's definitely fun while it lasts.

A spaceship crashes on a desert planet scorched under three suns. The mostly doomed survivors include a resourceful captain (Radha Mitchell), a drug-addled cop (Cole Hauser), and a deadly prisoner (Vin Diesel) who quickly escapes. These clashing personalities discover that the planet is plunging into the darkness of an extended eclipse, and it's populated by hordes of ravenous, razor-fanged beasties that only come out at night. The body count rises, andPitch Blacksettles into familiar sci-fi territory.

What sets the movie apart is Twohy's developing visual style, suggesting that this veteran of B-movie schlock may advance to the big leagues. Like the makers ofThe Blair Witch Project, Twohy understands the frightening power of suggestion; his hungry monsters are better heard than seen (although once seen, they're chillingly effective), andPitch Blackgets full value from moments of genuine panic. Best of all, Twohy's got a well-matched cast, with Mitchell (so memorable with Ally Sheedy inHigh Art) and Diesel (Pvt. Caparzo fromSaving Private Ryan) being the standouts. The latter makes the most of his muscle-man role, and his character's development is one more reason this movie works better than it should.--Jeff Shannon

(A series that was meant for Blu-Ray)
『Ok, I am going to gush about Battlestar Galactica because I believe that is was the best show written for television, hands down. I can't believe that we got the priviledge of watching this on free tv (sci-fi network or now know as syfy). Well, not so much free as nothing is cheap about cable companies these days. Anyway.. the packaging, as people say, could have been much much better. They should have given us options on the packaging because most people, like myself, just really only care about the DVD and I would have like to have seen it in traditional dvd packagaing. But the DVDs were hard to get to and you can't see what disc is what unless you physically remove it from it's package. Enough about the package, on to the show.

Ok, the mini-series, first 4 episodes looks grainy and people say it is on purpose. I own the first season on HD-DVD as well as Standard Def and I don't see anything that makes it look any better in blu-ray. I figure that because it was release so long ago maybe they use inferior cameras to film it and the whole HD and Blu ray craze hadn't kicked into full gear until after the miniseries. But starting with the episodes 33 1/3 until season ending, everything looks and sounds great. The clarity is great and the sound is fantastic. Plus on blu-ray you have U-Control and for a fan, its cool to watch the series with that on and you get to see interviews with the cast, crew and writers. So the blu ray is packed with TONS of bonus features.

What is missing in the description of this box set is that fact that RAZOR IS INCLUDED! It's in the fourth box set i think, also the WEBISODES are included also. So you get the complete package and you don't have to purchase anything further (except the Plan with came out much later). Not included in this is Caprica but that is a completely different series-to-be.

As far as the series, it is the best writing, with wonderful acting by all. Edward James Olmos is great as Adama and gives the series validity because of his past work as an actor and you have 2x Oscar nominated Mary McDonnell as the president. But it is the newcombers that makes the series work. (I am only going to name characters here), Starbuck, Apollo, Dee, Chief, Gauis, Gaeta, Six, Boomer, etc... where did these people come from. They are amazing and I was initially upset that the previous show was changed so much. But what they did is what convinced me that I was watching something special. One thing I must say for sure. You must watch this series from episode one through the end. Its not an independent episode type of show. It is one long engrossing story that is unfolds like a great book. Be forewarned also, once you start to watch you may have a tendency to watch the show back to back to back. This is story first, sci-fi second.

For me, BSG (Battlestar Galactica) Blu-ray DVD is a multi-viewable, meaning you will find yourself watching the series over again on blu-ray and still be fascinated about it all. Unfortunately I bought it during the pre-sale and it was more for me than the current $200.00 and change price tag. This would make a fantastic gift for people you know who were fans of the show and who has a blu-ray player. And it is so complete, I can't stress that enough. Not even the standard def DVDs have the webisodes. Plus you have somewhere in the neiborhood of Season 1, Season 2.0, Season 2.5, Season 3, Season 4.0 and Season 4.5 to purchase, plus you have to purchase Razor. You get it all in one package with this set. Buy it if you are a fan and buy it for fans or for someone who you think will really like this show.』

(Great content, TERRIBLE packaging!!!)
『Just started to re-watch the series, its still flippin amazing. I love watching it in HD.

My only beef is the packaging. They tried to make something cool and different. It didn't work. It baffles me. I dropped $200 on Blu Ray disc set that I have to claw out of the box? I'm afraid I might scratch a disc.』

(Serious packaging issues.)
『This set contains all the seasons of BSG and including the movie Razor, but not Caprica or The Plan. I thought that the inclusion of Razor was a nice bonus, since I only thought the regular episodes were included. The box is quite large and overly done. The top of the box lifts up exposing the central core of character photos, kinda like your opening a futuristic computer core. There is the plastic Centurion action figure on top, it's average quality and can barely stand up on its own. The bottom part of the box is quite drab as the colorful cardstock piece falls off once the plastic wrap is removed. The blue blu-ray band and red dress of Caprica actually gives a nice contrast. The episodes are contained in four containers one on each side of the box's perimeter.

My main problem was with the containers for the episodes. The blu-ray discs are are staggered in a flip top like holder. I could barely get them out, at first I thought that the packaging was damaged as the cheap cardstock that holds them in place seemed smashed, but realized that they were all that way. The flip top lid is also held in place by an odd "rubber velcro" with is hard to secure in place. It all felt very cheap and unfortunately I didn't feel that I could store them safely on a shelf without the elaborate box. I ended up returning it for the reason of being unable to easily access the discs and the fear of scratching them since you almost need some needle nose pliers to remove them. I plan to either buy the european region free tin or await another and hopefully cheaper box set.』

(BSG The Complete series Bluray)
『Luckily I caught the series on sale much cheaper than the Amazon price. I would not have paid the higher price knowing I would have to repackage the set into proper DVD cases and throw away the junk packaging. It was easy to search out the BD contents on the web and piece together my own booklet containing the contents of each disc. It just took a bit of time.

The gritty grain however is just plain annoying. Very dissapointing to "dumb down" my HDTV settings so the grain isn't overwhelming. Many scenes I was looking forward to viewing in spectactular HD were so grainy and pixelated that it detracted from the viewing experience. Ron Moore in his comments actually states that he didn't get the chance to watch much of the HD version and his statement about how now we get to watch the show as it was actually meant to be seen doesn't sound convincing.

On a positive note the space battles were some of the best I've ever seen in Sci-fi tv unlike many shows and movies that cram so much action and confusion into the scenes that you can't figure out what is going on.』

(Taken as a whole, it's quite a series.)
『I remembered how awful the original Battlestar Galactica series was and really had no interest in viewing the new series when it aired. Oh, the original series had a great concept, but atrocious acting, horrible scripts, completely inane and laughable dialogue, along with amateurish special effects (or should I say one cheap special effect repeated ad nauseum) sunk it for me very early on. And the only reason I tried out this new series (via Netflix) was because of all the positive reviews. Then again, the original series also got plenty of positive reviews ... which I find impossible to even comprehend.

Let's start off with the good. The acting ranges from decent to excellent (mostly excellent, especially James Olmos). The special effects are indeed movie-worthy, the concept (obviously taken from the original, which I thought very highly of) has been refined and improved, while the scripts and dialogue are generally quite good, even thought provoking. I guess the most important thing is, this series throws many curves and sometimes shocks (at least I was shocked more than once ... and I do mean shocked!). It's certainly a far cry from the silly, cliche-ridden original, thank God. I also liked how the new series paid homage to the original by showing the older cylon robots in a few episodes. It cracked me up when I heard them say, "By your command".

Now the bad. Normally, I feel a series can sustain high quality for about 2 or 3 seasons before it begins to melt into milk toast, so I wasn't surprised that this 4-year run had several episodes that were fairly mundane ... and a few that were simply weak throw-ins. There were several times I thought I was viewing a soap opera, so it began grating on me. I'm far from being a prude, but I began to tire of all the sex, and to the point that it simply bored me. But the worst part of this series ended up being the Lee Adama character. I felt it was the weakest writing in the series ... here we have a "hero?" that is an insufferable whiner that probably should have been thrown out the airlock before the second season.

While all that does sound pretty bad, the quality episodes (and that is most of the episodes) far outweigh these negatives. This is an impressive series with some rich characters and brilliant ideas. For science-fiction (usually considered non-science, just dumb fiction), Battlestar Galactica breaks new ground, especially for television. And while I think the short-lived series, FIREFLY, was one of the best that this genre has to offer, in many ways I feel that Battlestar surpasses it (although FIREFLY was a heck of a lot more fun ... it had some really excellent and witty writing, and is still my favorite).

I bought the blu-ray version, so I feel I also need to rate the video and audio quality as well. I watched this on a Samsung 40-inch LCD with an Oppo blu-ray player. My sound system is only a 2.1 system, but high quality (a Zvox 550). That said, here are my impressions:

Video: Between 1 and 10, I give it a marginal 7 (barely 3-1/2 stars). Generally, I thought the video was very good, but it does get far too grainy at times. I understand the feeling the director wanted to convey, but this is not a series to show off stunning blu-ray quality (although there are certainly scenes that are pristine).

Audio: Between 1 and 10, I give it a marginal 9 (or 5 stars). Mostly excellent, especially the powerful drum work (while I certainly liked the entire score, I felt the drum beat was supremely effective in the scenes that used it, and added greatly to the suspense of the moment). The music and sound effects resonated and helped immerse me into each scene, and some scenes, like the creaking of the ship as well as the "back-breaking" moment, totally captivated me.

The Series: Between 1 and 10, I give this series a very solid 8 (or a high 4-star rating). The difference between this new series and the original is like a clear, sparkling stream versus a mud puddle littered with trash. Had the series not meandered around in several episodes, I would have gladly given it a 9 or higher (or a 5-star rating). As it stands, I still consider this a must-see series for sci-fi fans. I have to say that this series surprised me so much that I stopped renting after the first season and purchased the entire series.

One more note. About the packaging. If one thing is consistent in all these reviews, it is the complaints about the packaging. For me, it didn't bother me. I simply threw away the big cardboard construct and have the individual season packages on my shelf. And while it is a bit difficult getting some of the dvds to slide out, and I would have preferred protective sleeves, it really is a non-issue for me. What is an issue is not having a booklet that describes what is on each dvd. It's hard to understand why this was MIA.』

『Now you can relive every action-packed moment of the epic story that Entertainment Weekly proclaims“Riveting”! Rejoin the fight to save the human race as a small but determined fleet quests for the fabled planet Earth while being hunted by their nemesis, the robot cylons. Presented uninterrupted and in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, experience the phenomenon from beginning to end!』

(Timeless Classic)
『My wife is a nut about Time travel. A long time ago we saw "Time After Time" and we both loved it. Ever since, because we couldn't buy the movie at the time, it became a fond memory. However, the name of the movie was lost. Recently, we came across the movie and immediately ordered it. The acting is great and the plot is unique.』

("The future isn't what you thought. It's what I am!")
『This is one of those rare films from my adolescence that I have a palpable memory associated with on its first viewing. It was released at the end of summer 1979 - I don't know whether school had started or not, but what I do remember is that I insisted quite vehemently on seeing it, and my mom acquiesced none too graciously - STAR WARS had made me a serious movie lover 2 years before and I was especially entranced by the few science fiction films that came our way. So my brother and I saw this after it had been out a week or two; it didn't last long and the theater had only 2 other patrons. We both loved it - it was the scariest and most intense film I'd seen at that point, I was 13 and my parents quite overprotective - and I'm glad to say that my love of the film has remained unchanged.

Malcolm McDowell stars in one of his very best (and quite atypical) performances as H.G. Wells, who in 1893 isn't planning on writing about a "time machine", but has in fact built one, as he demonstrates to his guests at a dinner party reminiscent of the opening scene in the actual novel of the same name which was published (in reality) in 1895. He plans to head off into the future to find the utopia that he is certain will exist in a few generations....ah but his good friend John Leslie Stevenson (David Warner, quite chilling) has other plans, as Stevenson is in fact Jack the Ripper, and as the police knock on Wells' door, he makes his escape, to San Francisco in 1979, the machine having been physically moved from London after World War II. Luckily the time machine has several fail-safe mechanisms, one of which causes it to return to Wells, who sets out in pursuit to the "brave new world" of the future.

And thus begins the story proper, a chase-thriller with Wells first trying to find Stevenson, then being himself chased as the Ripper needs a key that will prevent him being followed in the time machine. Along the way Wells meets a bank officer, Amy Robbins (Mary Steenburgen) who helps him to locate his nemesis and with whom he quickly falls in love. The love story and the thriller are really the principle genres here, and first-time director Meyer handles the latter with surprising ease - the romantic part wasn't too difficult to fake, as it wasn't in fact faked and McDowell and Steenburgen embarked on a 10-year marriage shortly after the film's release. There are a couple of strong and quite obvious themes that underlie the whole story - optimism vs pessimism, the need to take love wherever you find it, and the importance of hope even in the face of the obvious truth that "progress" isn't always positive. There's a great scene in a hotel early on where Stevenson shows Wells just how misguided he's been - but Wells stubbornly persists in his optimism almost to the last, and McDowell is superb at conveying the fish-out-of-water, gentle soul with, at last, just enough steel to prevail over murder and time.

The San Francisco locations are nicely used, and there are numerous brief homages (some perhaps accidental) to earlier famous SF-set classics like DIRTY HARRY, BULLITT, and VERTIGO; Miklós Rózsa's fine score even quotes Herrmann's music for the Hitchcock film - or comes awfully close to doing so - in the Muir Woods scene. If you're someone who is insistent on absolute historical and scientific accuracy in your science fiction, I'm afraid you'll be let down - the explanation behind the time machine and the one paradox that is involved isn't terribly convincing, and the ripper murders occurred in 1888, not 1893. Die-hard Wellsians (yes, there are a few) regularly complain about McDowell's "wrong" accent, the real author's harsh Cockney having been considered grating and unpalatable to film audiences - but as I say above, to think of this as hard, serious social science fiction is IMO a mistake, it's a romantic thriller with just enough social comment to make the characters more interesting and believable. It's exciting, fun, and charming, and it has a feel of the old "classy" Hollywood methods for doing science fiction and horror (the violence is quite muted and more intense for leaving much to our imagination), with special effects definitely of much less importance than they usually have been in genre films released since this one. Not a "great" film, perhaps, or a particularly important or life-changing one, but it certainly hits all the right notes for me.

The disc offers a commentary track featuring director Meyer and star McDowell that is one of the better examples I've heard. Meyer's explanation for his use of the particular hotel he picked for the chase between Stevenson and Wells to begin in had me hitting my head and saying "of course"; it's nice to find a director of science fiction and fantasy who actually knows the classics of the genre.』

(Great Take On H.G.Wells)
『This is a film we had on VHS and have now updated to DVD. This is a great take on the H.G. Wells' story of The Time Machine with the added interest of Jack the Ripper. Malcomb McDowell is good as the studious H.G. Wells forced to pursue his friend, who it turns out is Jack the Ripper, into the San Francisco of the 1970's, with his time machine. With the Ripper now running loose in the free-wheeling Frisco of the '70s, Wells must stop the madman before he can slaughter again. Although dated the film is well done, with a cast of well known actors. If you like science fiction the old fashioned way, through the eyes of those who invented the genre, this is a film to see.』

(I'll watch this Time After Time)
『This movie has something for everyone: love, sci-fi, past and present, bad guy, hero, etc. This is definitely one of my favorites that I can watch over and over again. These 3 actors make this movie sensational. Get it!』

(A Timeless Treat!)
『Nicholas Meyer is a wonderful writer! He was also the creator of THE SEVEN PERCENT SOLUTION (another favorite of mine), and TIME AFTER TIME is a delicious follow-up. The story is clever and funny and touching and suspenseful, and the cast is splendid (One can watch Steenburgen and McDowell falling in love as they make the film (They were later married). And David Warner makes a superb Jack the Ripper (and gets the lion's share of the best lines: "Ninety years ago I was a freak. Today I'm an amateur.") There's also a luscious musical score by Miklos Rozsa (Listen to the little tune playing in the background at the revolving restaurant!). On a recent visit to San Francisco I found myself stumbling on settings from the movie (Francisco Street, The Palace of Fine Arts, The Hyatt Regency, the Muir Woods), and they inevitably brought back happy memories of this charming movie.』

『In this clever speculative tale, story collaborators Karl Alexander and Steve Hayes and screenwriter-director Nicholas Meyer (Star Trek IIandVI) send two famous historical figures ahead in time. In late 19th century England, writer H.G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell) unwittingly includes Jack the Ripper (David Warner) in his social circle. When one of Wells's dinner parties is crashed by the police looking for the Ripper, Jack uses the author's time machine to escape. But there's one catch--after it has been used, the machine returns to Wells's time. Thus the literary genius bravely sets out to find his evil friend before he can wreak havoc on another time period, and soon arrives in modern-day San Francisco. What follows is a fascinating merger of a suspense thriller--as the charming and polite Wells tries to hunt down the shrewd, brutish Ripper and take him back to the past--and a love story, as Wells befriends and falls in love with a bank administrator (Mary Steenburgen) who acts as his guide through the future. Through its brilliant combination of creepy suspense and tender romance,Time After Timemanages to become a classic in two genres at once--a rare cinematic achievement.--Bryan Reesman

(Charlton Heston was the ultimate Robert Neville)
『We owe Charlton Heston a great debt for helping science fiction along the path of maturity by providing us with the brilliantly portrayed Robert Neville. This is Heston's typically gifted work, and the movie to me never gets old. The casting was superb. (The latest remake, "I am Legend," with Will Smith was a horror film only in the sense that it made me wince to watch it. I love Will Smith, but casting him as a brilliant scientist was a huge stretch. He was simply too young to be an MD with research experience and a colonel in the army as well.) Heston, in this film, is the quintessential man who never gives up. He imbues his character with admirable qualities in the way only a great actor could. You just have to find yourself pulling for Neville as he struggles on and on, refusing to roll over and surrender. I find the film dated only in that Neville in The Omega Man was not a victim, he was a traditional hero. As Heston/Neville remarked in the film, as his character watched a generator-powered endless re-run of an old film, "They sure don't make movies like that anymore."

(Omega Man for a gift)
『I ordered the DVD as a gift for my Dad. This has always been one of his favorite movies, and he's had a hard time finding the regular DVD out in stores. He was very pleased to have a copy of the film.』

(Charles Manson goes to Woodstock)
『I wasn't particularly impressed despite the fact that I always enjoy Charleton Heston. The Director/Producers of this film seem to have been interested in producing something of a hippie movie, therefore the movie looks dated, indeed.

Heston, who suspects he is the last bona fide human on earth doesn't fit the hippie image, of course, but he does spend time watching reruns of the movie 'Woodstock'. His adversaries are the albinoid, diseased survivors of an epidemic that has destroyed civilization. They are religiously fundamentalist--against the 'machine'--and are zombioid and lethal. They are led by the Manson-like Mathias, who refers to his flock--again Manson-like--as 'The Family.'

Well, it turns out the Heston isn't the only one left. There is a handful of surviviors who bear all the appearances of members of a hippie commune. Heston's love interest is a black woman who looks amazingly just like the 60s-70s radical Angela Davis. Alas, it isn't to be. Angela turns into a zombie; Heston is speared by Mathias and the hippies go off to never-never land.

(Holy Moses...One of Hestons Best!)
『Of those reviewers that felt that this film fell short of Hestons other Sci Fi films--shame on them. We, who have seen this one know the plot...Charlton Heston plays a government scientist that holds the key to survival...the antidote to the biological weapon his government help create, a deadly plague that either kills or genetically mutates the survivors of the disease and drives them insane. He, Dr. Nevill, is Satan to the mutated survivors--activly pursuing and killing them (putting them out of their misery). Hey--it's them or him--I vote for survival. I think the only thing I would do different is move out of the city, away from those REALLY creepy half dead zombies.I understand Hestons caracter refused to give in to them and stay where he was..but......The real point is--even though this movie is based on the R. Mattheson book--I am Legend--and not really close to the original story..who cares? The movie is good on it's own. Put it this way...unless I am in bed and can pull the covers over my head--I still won't watch this film downstaires in the dark by myself...but then neither my wife or kids will watch this with me either....It is a bitter-sweet film and you almost feel releaved rather than sad when Heaston is killed in the end--he was the one who was truely tormented.』

(Chuck vs the Photophobes)
『Gimme Heston vs. crazy villains any day. This is one of the big 70's Sci-Fi movies. Along with "Planet of the Apes" and "Soylent Green," these movies made me a big Sci-Fi fan. It's a little cheesy, but it holds up well. one&1/2 thumbs up.』
『Welcome to the future. Biological war has decimated life on Earth. Los Angeles is a windswept ghost town where Robert Neville tools his convertible through sunlit streets foraging for supplies. And makes damn sure he gets undercover before sundown, when other "inhabitants" emerge. The Omega Man adapts Richard Matheson's novel I Am Legend into a high-impact, high-tension saga of a fate not far removed from reality. Charlton Heston is Neville, fending off attacks by The Family, sinister neopeople spawned by the plague. He also becomes a man with a mission after meeting Lisa (Rosalind Cash), another unifected survivor - and guardian of some healthy children representing our species' hope.
