(A Beautifully Done Box Set)
『I have been a big fan of this series since it's inception and loved these movies the first time I saw them. Naturally, I bought this set as soon as it became available, and I'm very glad I did. I got a high quality product at a very reasonable price. This was an all around great purchase.

The CGI effects are wonderful, the picture and sound quality are excellent--love seeing the Enterprise and crew in wide screen 16:9 letterbox-- the packaging is outstanding. And watching the recently produced bonus disc "Evolutions" is like getting together with old friends.

If you are a fan of the "The Next Generation" cast, crew, universe, then you must buy this set. If you are just coming to TNG, you get a beautifully done box set of four great movies to begin your journey. But of course, you can't go wrong starting with Season One and working your way up, too.』

(A very pleasent surprise!)
『I never saw these before I bought this set, as I became a Trekkie after 'Nemesis' came out, and so I finally wanted to give these movies a shot, and let me tell you, I'm glad I did!

Star Trek: Generations,

This is the first movie of 'The Next Generation' series, before I watched it, I was skeptical, because I had heard/seen mixed reviews, but of course I still wanted to watch it and judge for myself, this movie I find is VERY underrated, I mean you get to see the original crew (for the most part), Kirk, Scotty, Chekov, but no Spock, Dr. McCoy, Uhura, and Sulu, but still, it was nice to see the rest on the Enterprise 'B' maiden voyage, I'm not gonna play spoiler, I just loved this movie from the get-go, I started watching it the day I got it, and didn't plan on watching the whole thing, I just wanted to sample it, well let me tell you, I watched the whole thing, and fell in love right off!

Star Trek: First Contact,

This is the second movie, and it does not dissapoint, same as 'Generations' right from the get-go I liked it, this goes back to 'The Best of Both Worlds' episodes, with the Borg, and we all know what happened to Captain Picard, this is one excellent, exciting movie, most say the best in the series, and while it was hard for me to pick, I agree, everything about it just works, great action scenes, great story, great storytelling, and of course great acting!

Star Trek: Insurrection,

This is the third movie, this one I think is very underrated as well, this is kind of like alot of the 3rd season episodes of 'The Original Series' where it's about a superior race on the planet becomes the target of a conspiracy, and the story is well thought out, and put to screen very well, lots of great battle scenes in this one, and this movie gets going right off like the first 2, I wasn't expecting a great movie, but like 'Generations' it was a pleasent surprise, it's very well executed, and very well acted!

Star Trek: Nemesis,

This is the fourth movie, and I do not see HOW this one gets ignored, the plot is excellent, I don't want to play spoiler, so I will make this short and to the point, there is a leader of a race that wishes to become Captain Picard (a clone), he was programmed to skip 30 years of his life in order for this to be possible, lots of action, and alot of people say it's not directed like a Star Trek film? I disagree, I knew all along I was watching Star Trek, and not just because of the characters, but the shipshots/space shots, it very much felt like Star Trek, in my opinion, they went out with a big BANG!

Bottom line, if you are a fan of Star Trek, you MUST get this set, the video and audio are excellent quality, and you get a nice load of extras, and the bonus 'Evolutions' disc, once again I never saw these movies before, and I will be watching these again soon, now I need to get 'The Original Series' movie set, I've seen all those, but I still need it on DVD, buy this with confidence!

『I always liked the series because it did a wonderful job of portraying a charecter who overcame injustice to become champion for justice. The charecters are well cast and very well played, the scripts engaging, and always there is the element of delight in simple pleasures and the joy of discovery. I was very sorry to see the series end prematurely. I was pleased to be able to watch it again at my own convenient times and without interuption. The only issue I have is that not all the episodes would play and I don't yet know how to have Amazon replace the defective discs.』

(Great season, but sad for no season 5)
『For Season 4 Jarod is recaptured by the centre or more like Mr. Lyle. The very first episode, "The world is changing", definatly shows how it changed. The show got even darker the in season three. I've already bought this season and watched the bonus features which are really good telling what happened behind the scenes of the show. The cliff hanger at the end of the series is sad because to realize there wont be a season five to finish. The show had and has a huge fan base and will always be a great series to me. Check out this series from season one if you like seeing Jarod get back at the bad guy for the good guy.』

Jarod has no problems crossing the line and doses out an eye-for-an-eye method of justice. Carve up a soldier and try to pass his murder off as a suicide? Guess, what, buddy? Jarod's going to do the same to you. Of course, Jarod isn't a murderer and he never actually lets anyone die. But he does scare his victims into confessing. Never mind that the taped confessions wouldn't hold up in court. It still makes for good drama. As for the photogenic Jarod and Miss Parker, the writers have created an intriguing codependent relationship that's rooted in love, admiration, and just a touch of fear. Their lives are intertwined--especially after they discover a young man to whom they're both related. The final episode is a tad anti-climactic, leaving viewers wondering who survived a horrific explosion. 『I purchased this movie first for myself and then for my nephew when he told me repeatedly as it was his favorite movie in the world. This is a wonderful story about a young boy who who helps a young girl overcome the villians that want to steal her necklace and its powers for themselves. They join together and eventually sacrifice the power in the necklace to save the world. This movie would be loved by anyone that loved "Howl's Moving Castle". Great Japanese animation and wonderful and meaningful fun.』

(A wonderful "Castle in the Sky" movie)
『My husband and I had the blessing to watch this wonderful dvd yesterday and let me tell you that its a great movie. If you like to watch any films that are a creation of fantasy and cheerful creativity then this is your movie. The movie has some dark moments but the message of the movie turns out to be very uplifting that I would go as far as to say that one could watch this movie with youngsters. As one of the reviewers mentioned much of the movie takes place up in the sky but the movie carefully mixes fantasy and cartoon originality in such a way that it ends up being very pleasing to watch. This is a great family movie that will appeal to all ages. At the beginning of the film, it showed a scene where one of Pixar's creators was recommending the film and how he is friends with the Castle in the Sky's creator. I already had a good feeling about the movie but when one of Pixar's own creators recommends this movie it gives a great hint that this movie is also a classic (considering that Pixar has made many wonderful movies in their own right).』

『I love this movie. The art is bright, music enjoyable and adds emotion to the scenes, and the story is awesome. It begins with the girl, Sheeta, kidnapped by people wanting her pendant, and when they are attacked she falls from the aircraft she was held captive on. Her pandant glows to life and she begins to float down. A boy, Patzu, finds her floating and helps her. They both get entangled in the hunt for a legendary floating city.

It is an awesome fast paced story. I could watch it a million times in a row and not get bored.』

『I cannot say enough about the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan. The combination of the acting, mise-en-scen, and cinematography all amalgamate to provide the viewer with spectacular artistic images, excellent portrayals of characteristic ideologies, and as well as a thrilling psychological plot.
The acting led by Christian Bale and Heath Ledger is only to be followed by an outstanding all star cast including Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and Aaron Eckhart. Bale continues his role as Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman for the second time after his initial success in Batman Begins. No matter how great of a performance Christian Bale put out there for the audience, his acting will forever be overshadowed by that of Heath Ledger who died shortly after the making of the film, and thus this movie will forever be known as "the role that killed Heath." Christopher Nolan and Heath worked tremendously together capturing the essence of the half serial killer, half chaotic sociopath adding tremendous depth and complexity to the Joker not seen in the original comics. The only weak point in this cast in my opinion was Maggie Gyllenhaal who replaced Katie Holmes from the previous film. She looked old and out of touch with the whole Bruce Wayne and Rachael Dawes typical comic love affair, but simply their chemistry on stage did not coincide.
The Mise-en-scen of The Dark Knight refers to everything on stage (the props, sets, costumes, and acting), and was mainly the brainchild of Nolan's brilliant thinking. Combined with the cinematography or how the movie was filmed (lighting, camera angles, camera movement, etc.) Nolan creates stunning visuals for the two and a half hour saga of good against evil. The film itself contains many long shots and astonishing background and inversion camera clippings creating stunning visuals on the big screen. The set seems to be jammed packed with props and intricate details that the viewer can really appreciate. Many resent the fact that it is over one hundred and fifty minutes long, but actually on the contrary I believe it adds to the overall suspense and to be frank any shorter of the movie would undoubtedly fail to do justice to the actors and plot of the film.
In conclusion the viewer should buy this movie for the action scenes, excellent examples of great directing, an all -star cast, not to mention the fact that it was Heath Ledger's last film ever.』

(Beyond what I expected)
『Knowning all the hype that was put out about this movie had me very very concerned. Due to, from past experience, the lack of substance that a movie will have once completed and in theaters. More times than not a movie with such over hype usually is just a way for studios to try to gain money from the audeince who doesn't know any better and once it is seen it falls away into oblivian. That was my concern about this movie. That it would suck so bad that it completely destory Batman as a comic book character that has been around since the early 20th century. Just because studios think that the masses are just dumb sheep who will make a hit out of a movie just because of a lot of advertising was put behind it.

However, I was pleasantly proven wrong about this movie. What Christpher Nolan did with Batman Begins he built upon in this one. We see a city still in dispair to the point of breaking. Yet there is hope on the streets and fear starting emerge in the hearts of criminals, all because of Batman. Along comes the Joker. He is a sucidal maniac who wants to prove to the world that it sits on a thin thread between chaos and order. Thinking that most of society, at its heart, is chaotic is oout to take down the only thing standing between him and complete anarchy, Batman. To take down the Joker and his diabolical plans Batman, LT. Gordon, and newly appointed D.A. Harvey Dent team up. Although, the heroes of this story try to take down the Joker through moral ways he makes it very difficult for them to make the right decision and become a symbol of hope for the city of Gotham.

In the end the movie blew me away and then some. The script was well written. The movie was well acted by everyone included. And the moral choices that the characters had to make pushed comic book heroes into the real life that everyone can identify with.』

(Twisted Morality overshadows technical brilliance)

Batman as the CIA, Gordon as Cheney - what a miserable and extremely dreary ending to an otherwise fabulously conceived and brilliantly executed movie. Batman and Gordon are the real architects of the world without rules in a movie where they are supposed to be telling us how to deal with such a world. Smacks far too much of neo-con 101 for my liking.

Instead of organising a shoddy and sordid little cover-up at the very end, all they had to do was tell the people the truth that Dent had been morally broken by the Joker and that the Joker had been captured, and Gotham's soul would not only have been saved but massively fortified against such future attacks.

Instead we have the possibility of more mangled-morality and hideous cod-philosophising in Batman 3 (or 7, whatever you prefer), more dilution of Batman's uniquely moral symbolism, and more incoherent ramblings from professional and amateur critics about the superbly complex and sophisticated philosophical positions taken by the movie.

This film reminds me a lot of Michael Mann products which are so technically accomplished and overpoweringly hypnotic, that you frequently fail to process the fact that you being fed second-rate, morally suspect, nutritionally-hollow horse-crock in terms of plot and character along-side your delicious and gorgeous cinematic visuals.

All in all, this film was a terrible waste of a fine cast, headed by the brilliant Ledger, a great premise and a fine predecessor.

Maybe we get the Batman we deserve. Once an outside-the-law extension of the will of the people a la Clint Eastwood's avenging angel characters, now an above-the-law manipulator of the will of the people a la John Travolta's Swordfish character. A very depressing turn of events which we hope will be rectified in future Batman films. Fingers, sadly, are not crossed.

(A Nearly Three Hour Speech)
『Mention character study as a reason to watch a movie to me, and you have just counterproducted yourself. When you say character study, I often say people study. Unlike some movie fans, I try my best to say grounded with reality, trying very hard not get impressed by every character on the screen as much as possible, getting to know (or observing) interesting people, getting into interesting experiences situations by myself, basically, all things real life. That doesn't mean I dislike a character study. Even though plot, film making, characters are crucial in making a movie complete. Interesting characters really can make a movie all that better. Oh who am I kidding? Bland characters can kill a movie. Just ask Roland Emmerich, as his characters are so bland that all the special effects in the world can't make a great movie (although, surprise surprise, his later).

Characters in movies are a peculiar thing. Some of them can be memorable, easy to love, identify, and let you watch and believe it, feeling everything the character is, loving or hating the person on screen. Even sometimes, the actors can make a character that isn't totally unique fall into this catergory. On the flip side, so many characters in movies are so "real" that watching them makes you wonder why the hell your even watching these personalities on the screen. So much that you realize that you aren't living a life of your own at all. Chances are, they don't have much plot revolving around them either.

The Dark Knight is being touted as the most realistic and intelligent comic book movie ever, a label that has so much laughable baggage in it. Basically, I see the whole Batman and DC comic label a gimmick. The story is not that interesting underneath, there is no atmosphere, the characters are not that interesting, the themes are't that original, and everything is ANALYZED to death (Nostalgia Critic hit the nail on what he meant about that). The Nostalgia Critic was right about what he said about analyzed, as everything is talked about at length. And many of the speeches aren't even that original. When the Joker is talking about how civiled people turn into animals, DOES THAT SOUND FAMILIAR? It something that was told in Lord of the Flies, nay, Freud's concept of the id, ego, and supergo already. And Freud's concept says a lot more in less tedious ways.

So who are the characters? Yes, the Joker is all about anarchy and chaos, but so are many other people. Sure, none have been close to taking over a city, but I think that most can figure out that anarchy can get out of hand. Frankly, seeing it really isn't that interesting. The Joker also really doesn't resemble the comic books as much as he should. When drawn, the Joker looks INSANE, crazy, and loony. I remember how much I used to shake at the sight of such pictures as Batman: The Man Who Laughs. Heath Ledger's joker look still doesn't do that much for me. And forget his . Jack Nicholson's is a litte more fun, and since Heath doesn't scare me that much, Nicholson's cartoony edge makes him more fun to watch.

The Dark Knight, however, is not a bad movie. Christopher Nolan is a great director, the acting is stellar, the music is great, basically, the technical aspects are excellent. The action scenes are exciting, as well as some great scenes that I liked scattered about. I also loved the Batmobile and the batbike, watching his costumes, and Heath Ledger's brillaint scene with his hostage. It wasn't exactly scary, but I could only imagine the silence that followed in the theater after it. Also, Two-Face was the best incarnation of the villian, considering that the first incarnation of the villian, well nevermind. Gary Oldman also was a much better Detective Gordon, simply because how well he sinks into the role. Oldman can sink into anything.

Yes, I do like Tim Burton's Batman series better, but that's not why I am rating this as an average movie. Rather everything else above makes it average. While this is miles better than the Joel Schumacher movies (Ya think?), it's touted "realism" is third person, which really hampers the movie since it has absolutely nothing to really offer besides that, a character study. Did I enjoy it? Sure. However, I expected a whole lot more, and The Dark Knight would probably not even got if it wasn't bagged as a comic book movie (ugh), no less known as a Batman movie.』

『The Dark Knightarrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralyzed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director-cowriter Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimedBatman Beginswith an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies likeSpider-Man 2andIron Manbecause of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knightis a film for the ages.--David Horiuchi

In a small town in Main there is a legendary mansion called "Whipstaff Manor" which is rumored to be haunted by spirits yet it's true. a Lonely friendly ghost named Casper (Voiced by Malachi Pearson) is in need of a friend yet somehow doesn't seem to be making friends and his three mean uncles named Stinky (Voiced by Joe Alansky), Stretch (Voiced by Joe Nipote) and Fatso (Voiced by Brad Garret) loves scaring off intruders. A paranormalist named Dr. Harvey (Bill Pullman) and lovely daughter Kat (Christina Ricci) moved into the mansion for a new home and for studying on the paranormal as they don't know what to expect as Casper befriends them while the uncles want them out of the house.

Exciting, funny and well done adaptation of the popular Harvey comics! Directed by "City of Angels" director Brad Silberling, written by Animaniacs/Tiny Toons writer Sherri Stoner and produced by Steven Spielberg is definitely good fun for adults and kids. The special effects by Industrial Light and Magic are terrific and the film does co-star Cathy Moriartiy with Eric Idle and appearences by some famed stars including Dan Ackroyd. There is some emotional moments like the climax and of course good laughs abound, it's a nice hit movie for everyone.

This DVD contains a great widescreen picture remastering with extras like audio commentary, games, interviews, featurettes, Halloween tips, Deleted scenes, Talent Bios, and an episode of the 50's cartoon classic.』

Based on the comic book about Casper the friendly ghost, the film is a dreary series of awkward interactions between live actors and computer effects, and you can almost see Pullman and Ricci reconsidering the project while on camera. A few cameo appearances from uncredited stars help things a bit. 『What can I say about this. Its Buck Rogers in the 25th century, the show that ran on NBC on Thursday at 8pm in the late 70's. If you were a kid at the time and a fan. This show rocked but doesn't really hold up to time. Erin Grey is super Hot and kicked butt, took names. Gil Gerard was a ladies lady and man of action. Don't get me wrong I'm glad I bought it because something this cheesey could not be made today. Buck would have to have abandonment issues, and maybe a drinking problem. There was have to be some political element to the show but back in the 70's Buck was just a man's man's who liked to boogie, liked the ladies and the ladies liked him. Its the whole 2 season on dual layer discs, no extra features but yes the theatrical release of the pilot is there and so is Hawk the alien who descended from birds ( it was the lack of hair which were replaced by feathers that told you that )and had a cool hawk ship with cool hawk claws and hawk vision.

So if you remember it and liked it. Get it, its a trip. If not I'll not tell you don't do it but just beware this was the 70's Computer FX was something for expensive movies and TV budgets were small.』

『All I can say that it is about time!!! Ever since the TV studios decided to put the actual seasonal TV shows on DVD (Something that was impossible with the VHS era. I kept asking and begging the ultimate question. When is BUCK ROGERS coming to DVD? Well the wait was finally over and I did not care about the price I was willing to pay it. That is how much of a fan I was. The cool thing is that all of the shows uncut and unedited just like the way NBC aired it the first time. The episode FLIGHT OF THE WAR WITCH took me by surprise though. The opening intro was very different and I gave it two thumbs up with a woohoo yell.

Now there is a down side. I was disappointed with two things. One, they should have included the TV Pilot version that had almost 10 minutes of extra footage and two they should have put a ton of special features with behind the scenes footage with interviews of the cast and crew Then&Now』

『My wife and I have been watching these episodes, sometimes as many as three in one day. We both watched this show when it was first run, but neither of us have seen it since then.

It is a great view of the future that never was. It is good to see a 1980's view of the future. The hair, clothing, buildings are lots of fun.

Many of the actors are familiar from other science fiction shows, Sam Jaffe appears as a wise leader of a planet. This series is not serious science fiction but it is an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

『With its campy combination of lightweight adventure and Spandex disco chic,Buck Rogers in the 25th Centuryis a nostalgic throwback to post-Star Warsopportunism. Series co-creator Glen A. Larson was incapable of originality, and former soap star Gil Gerard (in the title role) was a bland incarnation of the comic-strip hero, so the much-anticipated series premiered on September 20, 1979, with serious disadvantages. Although the two-hour pilot "Awakening" had tested successfully as a theatrical release, Gerard and the show's producers could never agree on a stable tone for the series, which presents Capt. William "Buck" Rogers as a jovial space cowboy who is accidentally time-warped from 1987 to 2491. Earth is engaged in interplanetary war following a global holocaust, and Buck's piloting skills make him an ideal starfighter recruit for the Earth Defense Directorate, where his closest colleagues are Dr. Huer (Tim O'Connor), squadron leader Col. Wilma Deering (former model Erin Gray, looking oh-so-foxy), the wisecracking robot Twiki (voiced by cartoon legend Mel Blanc), and a portable computer-brain named Dr. Theopolis, who's carried by Twiki like oversized bling-bling.

The series struggled through an awkward first season, with routine plots elevated by decent special effects and noteworthy guest stars including Jamie Lee Curtis, ill-fatedPlayboyPlaymate Dorothy Stratten (appearing, with her voice dubbed over, less than a year before her tragic murder),Batmanalumnus Julie Newmar, Buster Crabbe (veteran of vintageBuck Rogersmovie serials), and several others in a show that favored vamps and vixens over credible science fiction. (A classic and one of my all time favorite films)
『Where do I begin? I love this movie. I watched this as a kid growing up in the 70s and I never get tired of watching it 30 years later, bought it on DVD and again on Blu-Ray. Gene Wilder gave no finer performance - earnest, offbeat, a brilliant portrayal which even the esteemed Johnny Depp couldn't touch (that may have been Burton's fault, who cares.) The tale of dysfunctional children from all around world who travel to a magical chocolate factory to compete for a grand prize, only to drop off one by one while exposing their own character flaws - reality show technique 20 years before its time. A great adaptation of the book which keeps the pace moving, provides a managable number of memorable characters, each played perfectly and with zeal. Gene Wilder has some of the best one-liners in response to the often bratty children around him. Sorry I haven't watched the Blu-Ray yet so I can't comment on the transfer quality, but I expect it will meet my expectations which are really just that it be better fidelity than the DVD.』

『I bought the HDDVD version and also had issues with the disc. Unlike the other HDDVD review I read who's disc froze in the special features, my disc froze in the main movie, right as they enter the factory. This is about the worst timing, Im already into the movie, loving the HD picture, and then nothing further right when it gets to the most visually stunning part. I was bummed, still am. At least I bought it post HDDVD demise, so it only cost a couple dollars. I put the HDDVD in the drive within 15 seconds of removing the shrinkwrap, so it is not fingerprints or anything on my part. I use the xbox360 HD Drive with a 360.』

『I finally watched my Blu-ray of Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal (you know, a guy plays chess with Death) and was blown away - what I always assumed (feared?) was a turgid Swedish symbolism-laden piece of homework was entertaining as all get-out. Funny in places, thought-provoking, beautifully filmed, and lovingly restored by Criterion, The Seventh Seal really is must-see material.』

『Yes, the BD version definitely delivers.

As for the film itself, most of you probably have seen this film or some of his other work... so I won't comment much on the film, but rather the technical aspects of this film. I mean, a knight plays chess with Death, what's not to like about that?

Stunning image quality and sound. It's actually been a while since I've seen an older version, though I think it wasn't even the old Criterion edition. What I can attest to is that, like "Repulsion", the transfer is simply incredible. There is absolutely no way short of a projection of the film itself that will deliver like this one. The subtitles appear to have been modified a little, being translated probably better for today's modern age. The extras are not extensive, but a nice addition to the BD version of the film. Also included is a nice booklet with the film. It could be considered a "collectors" booklet, as it is nicely put together and informative... but to me it's just something that Criterion added as a bonus. Very nice, though.

Bergman's exposures and lighting come through so beautifully in every frame. There are some scenes that come across as "flat" but that has nothing to do with the Criterion transfer and was more than likely on the master print itself. I think this could have been adjusted slightly to get rid of the prominent grays, but it could have been Bergman's intention as well... that I'm not sure about, but it was certainly in the original film. What's gone from the original is a hissy, poppy audio track and there's not a single hint of dust or scratches anywhere. Amazing what Criterion has been doing with these old prints!

Keep in mind the aspect ratio is 4:3, (the ratio of what was previously the standard for TVs), not 16:9. It was common for films of that era to be presented in it's full frame form... if you have a projector setup or large enough widescreen television, don't worry it hardly distracts at all.

Also, you'll be glad to know that Criterion was smart enough to eliminate those ugly blue cases that most BDs are packed in. They have more specially made cases that are clear and just a couple millimeters deeper (the spine, presumably to make more room for the booklets). Much more attractive on your DVD case than a row of neon-blue cases.』

『A breathtaking transfer of a classic film and the extras are fantastic. Criterion is sometimes stingy with the extras but they more than make up for it here. 'Bergman Island' alone is worth the purchase price. After I watched the Swedish-language original I even dipped into the English dubbed soundtrack which was surprisingly good. One of my best purchases of the year!』

『I have to say that I don't particular love this film, but I will admit that it is an aboslute classic family film. Everyone in the family will always enjoy it. Now with that being said, I, like most people, have issues with this new edition of E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial. First off, the new CGI look for the alien himself is just plain silly. He looks way more unrealistic that he does in the original version. He looks too much like Jar-Jar Binks and Dobby (from Harry Potter). And then, there are the "edits" that have been made. You probably know what's wrong here: the replacing weapons with talkie-talkies, replacing the word "terrorist" with "hippie," editing out the word "[...]," etc. Why couldn't they just leave this film alone and leave it the way it is. The great original is the one that should be watched, not the new 2002 version where it is dominated by political correctness. The 2-Disc Limited Collector's Edition is no longer in stock, so you'll have to find used DVD's. Why? Because it's the only edition that has the original 1982 version. So find one here, or on Ebay, or wherever you can find it, and skip the new 2002 version.
