>,Anthony Perkins,Janet Leigh,Martin Balsam,Vera Miles,John Gavinprice: Universal Studios Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A must have for any true film lover.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『When I put this DVD in my DVD player I was in for a film lover's treat. Sir. Alfred Hitchcock's landmark in the genre of the horror film has never looked better. Why this film was overlooked by the Academy of Motion Pictures is one of greatest sins in film history. This two disc presentation from Universal Studios is truly the definitive history of a masterpiece.』 (A Groundbreaking Classic) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Although we can see this movie just about any Halloween season, I decided to buy it for our collection. This movie was groundbreaking in its time. It's odd that we know everything that's going to happen but it still gives me the shivers. Everything came together in "Psycho." An original script; terrific acting; music that is as essential to the fright scenes as the script; and an ending that you never see coming. Of course if you've seen the movie once, you know how it ends. But in the 50's none of this was ever done, especially by actors of Janet Leigh's status. After all these years, I still find it chilling. 』 (Psycho w excellent transfer and good extras) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I remember watching Psycho on TV when I was around 12-13 years old. I still remember the shocking parts well. 25 years later I thought that I remembered it so well that I wasn't particularly interested in re-watching it. Anyway, finally I bought the 'Universal Legacy Series' edition DVD, and I'm glad for it. First of all, the transfer/picture quailty of this DVD is fantastic (just like Vertigo in the same series). I watched it on a projector. And the movie is far better than I remembered, the actors are excellent and the black/white photography superb. Ok, you can always make a remark about the explanatory psychiatric speech in the end, but this was a requirement at the time to get it through the censorship! This, and other fascinating things, is explained in the interesting commentary track, well worth listening to after watching the film.』 (A classic!!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『What is there to say, This is a fantastic classic that one must have and have watched a hundred times. It is a great movie. The famous shower scene is that famous, Anthony Perkins was wonderful as Norman. I can't say enough about it. You must have the movie in your collection. If you don't collect movies at least watch it. It's great.』 (Janet Leigh ... and the road not taken.) ![]() 『The plot of this movie is wrong, all wrong. First of all, why does Janet Leigh have to steal 40Gs from her boss' business? Why break the law? My version of this movie sees Janet Leigh not as a thief on the lam from the law but rather as ... a real estate agent. (Yeah, yeah that's the ticket!) A real estate agent out in the boondocks looking for a way to make a quick buck off some funky old property. Get the picture? ("Yes, we see.") There's anorexic, skinny-butt Janet driving along one backroad after another, dollar signs for eyeballs, and, lo and behold, she comes to -- that's right, that's right! -- THE BATES MOTEL! Smirking, she says to herself: "Lemme go in and see what kind of a schnook owns *this* dump." So she goes in, starts talking to Norman; next thing you know she's got Norman signing a no-interest, balloon payment, one-born-every-minute mortgage contract. Norman, also anorexic, financially as well as physically, naturally can't come up with the jack and in a few months, like all natural born schnooks, he defaults on the mortgage, declares bankruptcy and the Bates Motel becomes a diner -- MOM'S HOME COOKIN'. Norman, reduced to the role of mere employee, serves famished, bisexual truck drivers in drag (Norman, that is, not the bisexual truck drivers). Whilst Marty Balsam ("Mister Ar-bur-gas"), stopping for a quick bite, has a gas attack after eating a Mexican tortilla allegedly cooked between the thighs of Carmen Miranda -- AND SUES! Norman and Janet decide to bump off Ar-bur-gas by placing a Chiquita banana, posthumously autographed by Errol Flynn, at the top of the stairs. Ar-bur-gas slips, falls, survives --AND SUES AGAIN! Now Janet and Norman decides to convert MOM'S HOME COOKIN' into a combination dinner theatre, law office and cockatoo sanctuary. The first play they put on is "I Remember Big Fat Mama," with Oprah Winfrey as B.F. Mama and Anthony Perkins as her still-anorexic but game concubine. The play flops, the dinner theatre sues itself, peace is declared in our time and Alfred Hitchcock's rear end is replaced by a United Fruit box.』 『Alfred Hitchcock's landmark masterpiece of the macabre stars Anthony Perkins as the troubled Norman Bates, whose old dark house and adjoining motel are not the place to spend a quiet evening. No one knows that better than Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), the ill-fated traveler whose journey ends in the notorious "shower scene." First a private detective, then Marion's sister (Vera Miles) searches for her, the horror and the suspense mount to a terrifying climax where the mysterious killer is finally revealed.』 『At last--a great American movie available on video for the first time in its original aspect ratio. For all the slasher pictures that have ripped offPsycho(and particularly its classic set piece, the "shower scene"), nothing has ever matched the impact of the real thing. More than just a first-rate shocker full of thrills and suspense,Psychois also an engrossing character study in which director Alfred Hitchcock skillfully seduces you into identifying with the main characters--then pulls the rug (or the bathmat) out from under you. Anthony Perkins is unforgettable as Norman Bates, the mama's boy proprietor of the Bates Motel; and so is Janet Leigh as Marion Crane, who makes an impulsive decision and becomes a fugitive from the law, hiding out at Norman's roadside inn for one fateful night.Psychogets the masterpiece treatment it deserves on DVD, with extras including newsreel footage surrounding the making and release of the movie; an archive of production stills; the special trailer in which Hitchcock (acting as one of the original Universal Studio tour guides) himself leads viewers around the Bates place; credit designer Saul Bass's original "shower scene" story boards; posters and advertising materials for the movie's William Castle-like publicity campaign (No One Will Be Seated After the Feature Begins!);anda 90-minute documentary on the making of the film! Sound is unmatched. Go get this one its only 12.99 brand new!!!』 (A surprisingly good adaptation) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Loosely based upon Isaac Asimov's story, Will Smith's I, Robot is good. I rarely have anything good to say about such adaptations but this detective story set in a future in which robots are commonplace is well-done and gripping. Although I think the key plotline of following "breadcrumbs," or deliberately set clues, could have been done better the special effects are for the most part impressive and believable. The acting was good and I was pleased to watch it.』 (i was so confused.) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『everyone else in my house liked this movie, but me, i was totally confused, and lost about the whole theme of it. you can keep it.』 (Not Pleased....) ![]() 『I have never received this movie. I have written the seller twice and still have heard nothing. Please let me know what is going on with this order. Rebecca Nix』 (Interesting) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『While this movie is not Will Smith's best to date, it is compelling and all-in-all quite a good adaptation from the original short story. Filled with action and excellent special effects it will have you cheering the underdogs and mebee wondering, "Just how much technology is too much?"』 『In the year 2035, technology and robots are a trusted part of everyday life. But that trust is broken when a scientist is found dead and a skeptical detective (Smith) believes that a robot is responsible. Bridget Moynahan co-stars in this high-tech action thriller that questions whether technology will ultimately lead to mankind's salvation . . . or annihilation.』 『As paranoid cop Del Spooner, Will Smith (Independence Day,Men in Black) displays both his trademark quips and some impressive pectoral muscles inI, Robot. Only Spooner suspects that the robots that provide the near future with menial labor are going to turn on mankind--he's just not sure how. When a leading roboticist dies suspiciously, Spooner pursues a trail that may prove his suspicions. Don't expect much of a connection to Isaac Asimov's classic science fiction stories;I, Robot, the action movie, isn't prepared for any ruminations on the significance of artificial intelligence. This likable, efficient movie won't break any new ground, but it does have an idea or two to accompany its jolts and thrills, which puts it ahead of most recent action flicks. This is not one of them. It probably should be. You will find that many of the Python crew plays many different characters in the movie. Now the truth can be told. It all starts with three wise men delivering gifts to young Brian. Oops they correct their mistake. Later, Judea, 33 A.D., on a Saturday afternoon, once again Brian (Graham Chapman) is a tad far down the mount when they hear what sounds as "blessed are the cheese makers" (it's not meant to be taken literally that could mean any manufacturer). That is where Brian first sees Judith (Sue Jones.) Later he shall be involved in the People's Front of Judea. Later still he will be mistaken for the messiah (it is a logical mistake). Two factions fight over who owns the messiah (the Shoe Followers and Gourd Followers.) You will recognize many of your favorite vices and verses. One of the highlights of the story is the speech given by Pilate and Biggus Dickus. As with most complex movies you will find the one you are looking for Python comedy, fanatic parody, or if you wish a deeper meaning. What's beautiful about this movie is that it's just flat-out hilarious to folks who dont have a sense of the historical context of the movie, but also the more do you know about it, the funnier this movie is. I still lose my breath laughing even though I've seen this movie hundreds of times since it first came out to (ranting and) raving reviews by the curious sect of eternally infuriated Christians with no sense of humour, who only served to provide a ton of free publicity for the film while it was still in theaters. This movie is such a great fight for two people who despite their flaws love one another even though they have hurt each other. It sends a message about consequences of actions and value of the people we love. Well written and filmed.』 (no jokes about my name) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『10 THE FILM ITSELF 8.5 VISUALS 10 SOUND 8.0 PACKAGING 7.7 EXTRAS What is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? A love story? Yes. The best performance by Jim Carrey? Yes. An extremely depressing look at modern romance? Yes. An instant classic? Yes. From the first preview I saw of Eternal Sunshine, I was instantly curious as to what this movie would be about. And after watching this film over 3 dozen times, I find something new every single time. Is it kind of confusing to follow with how the plot is set up and the quirky special effects? Yeah, but does that make it hard to enjoy? Absolutely not. Girls who love chick flicks will find something to enjoy and guys who want a film that isn't a normal everyday bore will find something new and interesting here. The story follows Joel Barish (Jim Carrey, in what I believe is his best performance in his career) as he retraces his memories of his up and down relationship with Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet). After learning that she has erased him from her memory after a series of fights, he quickly and hastily does the same. And then, during the procedure - which is the equivalent of a "night of heavy drinking" - he decides that he'd rather keep the memories than not have any recollection of someone so important in his life. It makes you think, what would you do? Would you erase someone from your mind because it ended badly, or would you keep them because it makes you who you are? The most interesting point is that the film ultimately runs backwards, from the disruptive end of their relationship tracing back to the good times they had when they first met before problems became a main thorn in their side. And it's great to see a film shot this way because I believe most people always think when their personal relationships end, 'how did it go so wrong? Things were just perfect' and this shows that shift between a 'perfect' beginning and an abrupt ending. The film makes you think, like all great films. The zany plot twists, creative characters and sci-fi type feel of the movie make this an entirely new, fresh experience. few films are this bold or puzzling, and with such an amazingly well known cast, I'm surprised this movie isn't a bigger hit because it definitely should be. 8.5 VISUALS It's a character driven film, but the special effects come through nicely. When random objects start infiltrating memories they aren't apart of it really gives you a sense of chaos but nothing looks out of place or cheesy. 10 SOUND One of the best soundtracks in a movie yet. Great collection of songs and a beautiful score by Jon Brion really add another dimension to an already wonderfully underrated film. 8.0 PACKAGING The cover is simple and not overdone with scenes or characters (usually when film covers have tons of junk of them it means the film is going to be bad) and the menu screen is easy to naviagate although it reuses one of the images from the cover again when there's tons of images they could've used to set up the feel for the film. 7.7 EXTRAS There's only 6 special features on the single disc set of Eternal Sunshine, and while none truly standout it's still a good collection of features. 1. "A Look Inside" is a behind the scenes look at the movie and people's ideas and thoughts about the project. 2. "A Conversation with Jim Carrey&Michel Gondry" is exactly what the title says. The two men don't really offer alot in terms of information. Short and kind of a fluff piece. 3. Commentary w/ Michel Gondry&Charlie Kaufman. I was expecting more from this commentary. That's not to say that it's bad, but it is a little slow and it's almost impossible to understand what Gondry says half the time. 4. "Deleted Scenes". There are not alot of scenes here and none are necessary for the film (hence why they were cut), and most are usually pretty short. Only a few minutes of scenes. 5. "Polyphonic Spree 'Light&Day' Music Video" is a 3 minute song that has clips from the film over the song. It's kinda creepy since the only change in the scenes is the overexaggerated mouth that moves over the characters' own. Good song though, fits the film well. 6. "Lacuna Commercial" is a 30 second clip about Lacuna by Dr. Howard Mierzwiak. IN CLOSING Eternal Sunshine is my second favorite movie (behind Fight Club, of course) for many, many reasons. And this DVD release does a great job with visuals and a masterful score along with some good bonus features. While ultimately I would've liked something a little better or more substantial for special features, I guess that's why there's a 2-dsic special edition I must get my hands on. 9.4/10 "OUTSTANDING"』 (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind... I'm Sorry I Forgot the Movie) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: 9 out of 10: Screenwriter Charlie Kaufman is in a league of his own. If cloning is ever allowed in the United States we need to clone Mr. Kaufman. (If there is any community that will embrace cloning it will be Hollywood. Name any other place in America where nepotism is a religion. Hiring your own clone is the ultimate in nepotism.) Charlie Kaufman has found that fine line between realistic dialog and interesting dialog. Characters talk, fight and fall in love just like they do in real life. But unlike most movies that try to mirror real life speech Kaufman makes it interesting. (Of course it helps that Kaufman is always throwing in the bizarre; such as adulterous homicidal book authors addicted to sniffing Angel Trumpet or people entering John Malkovich's head.) Now just imagine if a Kaufman clone could, oh I don't know, help George Lucas write romantic dialog. (If there is anyone who occupies the opposite side of the good dialog screen writing scales its Lucas. His dialog is so wooden it would embarrass a marionette. Plus think of the Variety headline "Kaufman Clone helps pen Clones") Oh the movie. Eternal Sunshine has some great performances especially by a subdued Jim Carrey. (This should surprise but after his brilliant turn in Man on the Moon, the only real surprise is how with his quiet desperate performance you forget its Carrey.) There is a really good subplot about the goings on at a mind erasure clinic. (The movie sensibly sets it up as a no big deal four-man operation like one of those laser eye surgery places in a strip mall.) And there is a really realistic romance between Carrey and Kate Winslet that blows most movies away. Currently ranked Fifty-Seventh greatest movie of all time by the IMDb. Eternal Sunshine is one movie you won't be able to get out of your head. 』 (Timeless.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I always enjoy movies that are a little out there. Eternal Sunshine passes with flying colors. This movie is relatable, but not in a way that makes it boring. We all know the story of having love, losing love, and wanting to make that pain go away. This movie takes that and twists it so that you can see what life would really have been like without them and how it would be better and worse and why ultimately you are who you are because of what you got out of the person and how you helped mold them. I like Jim Carrey and it was wonderful to see him take on a more serious role and do so superbly. Kate Winslet can play crazy and out there like no one's business. Kirsten Dunst adds a young fresh twist to the movie along with Elija Wood and Mark Ruffalo plays geeky just perfectly. InEternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a guy decides to have the memories of his ex-girlfriend erased after she's had him erased from her own memory--but midway through the procedure, he changes his mind and struggles to hang on to their experiences together. In other hands, the premise of memory-erasing would become a trashy science-fiction thriller; Kaufman, along with director Michel Gondry, spins this idea into a funny, sad, structurally complex, and simply enthralling love story that juggles morality, identity, and heartbreak with confident skill. The entire cast--Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Wilkinson, and more--give superb performances, carefully pitched so that cleverness never trumps feeling. >,Anjelica Huston,Raul Julia,Christopher Lloyd,Elizabeth Wilson,Christina Ricciprice: Paramount Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (I Promise, I Won't Even Mention That Other Family In This) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Seeing as how every time that other horror family is mentioned in one of my Addams reviews, I promise not to even mention their names. The Addams Family- I remember seeing this one when I was very young. Before I even saw the original series, I was hooked, including the animated version, which was being rerun on Cartoon Network at the time and the TV remake The New Addams Family (which is good in its own right, but not as good as the original of course). I couldn't have imagined anyone else playing these characters for the big screen (if they had made a movie of the original show in the 60s I'm sure I'd prefer that but that's a rant for another day). Anjelica Huston and the late, great Raul Julia have so much chemistry together, I can't help but be reminded of that same chemistry seen between Carolyn Jones and John Astin. Though due to a higher budget, Gomez can do more amazing feats than he could from the show. Not much is added to Morticia however but she's just as beautiful as ever (and great at her deadpan wit). A lot of my favorite bits from the film come from their scenes, especially when they reminisce about their first meeting at a funeral. Christoher Lloyd does a good job as Fester but I must say I do prefer Jackie Coogan's version. He was more offbeat and funny than Lloyd even after Fester recovers his memory. Christina Ricci is the only other person besides Lisa Loring to play Wednesday. I'm pretty sure she had a hard time keeping a straight face during the entire production. She and Jimmy Workman have a decent chemistry together but I wish they hadn't made Pugsley such an idiot, especially in the show when he was capable of mixing various chemicals. The plot is good but my main problem with the story in this and the sequel is that the main focus isn't the family but Uncle Fester. They make it seem that without him, the family can't function (how Gomez and the family survived for 25 years without him is a mystery). The music was excellent. My favorite music sequence is the party; first when Morticia and Gomez waltz, then reveal the entire party and the Mamushka sequence. Shaiman's version of the original theme is good but I wish it was used more. The only real bother I have is the Hammer songs used, especially the Addams Groove. 5 stars. Addams Family Values- This one is more in the vein of the original comic strips. A new baby is introduced into the house, causing sibling rivalry. A new nanny tries to kill Fester for his fortune (I liked it better when he was Morticia's brother because now everything revolves around him) and Wednesday and Pugsely are sent to summer camp and meet that guy from NUMB3RS. I have mixed feelings about the sequel. Its not a rehash of the first, except for the whole Fester/fortune gimmick. I like the idea of the children causing havoc in the camp and Fester having a love interest. But I just don't like it as much as the first for some odd reason. The original cast is good, though I don't know why they didn't get the same woman to play Grandmama. Peter MacNicol and Christine Baranski are just plain annoying as the camp counselors (good thing they got roasted but Baranski is one of my favorite actors). Joan Cusack is a delight as the deranged Debbie and I especially like the part when she tells them why she kills people. The original Addams theme is used more in this, especially during my favorite sequence (the Tango in the restaurant). More hip-hop songs are used in this and, like the Hammer songs of the first film, are not that memorable. Not that much to say about this one except its creepier, kookier and ookier. 4 stars.』 (Addams Family and Addams Family Values) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『What a killer deal. Some uptight parents may not let their kids watch it, but it's nothing outright obscene. I showed it to my fiance, who loved it. The actors are all great, the humor is priceless. Anjelica Huston was born to play Morticia Addams, matriarch of the ghoulish Addams clan, while the late Raul Julia is a very agreeable, lusty Gomez. But it's Christina Ricci who arguably steals the show as their stone-faced daughter, Wednesday. As is often the problem with adaptations of comics or television shows, somehow an original story has to be implemented that doesn't clutter things up. But clutter is an issue here as the script gets tangled on a lame plot concerning efforts to steal the Addams' house and fortune. Still, it's fun to see an ideal cast reanimate an old favorite. --Tom Keogh The Addams Family Values 『 The Addams Family / Addams Family Values > 『 The Addams Family / Addams Family Values > 『 Casper (Widescreen Special Edition) > 『 Casper (Widescreen Special Edition) > 『 Hocus Pocus > 『 Hocus Pocus > 『 Addams Family Values > 『 Addams Family Values > 『 The Addams Family > 『 The Addams Family > I wanted to buy It↑ タイトル『 Transformers: 25th Anniversary Matrix Of Leadership Edition [The Complete Series] > 『 Transformers: 25th Anniversary Matrix Of Leadership Edition [The Complete Series] > 『 G.I. I had gotten two dvd packs of G.I. Joe from Kid Rhino previously and didn't like the changes at all, since they tend to distract rather than enhance the show. Shout Factory has provided an uncut and beautiful collection. There are only a couple negatives that I can find in these dvds. First, the severe lack of extras dissappoints me greatly. There are extras, but not on a level that you'd expect from a full series release box set. Only a hand full of things are offered. What I was really excited about was the commercials and PSAs. Unfortunately there are only 4 commercials, and all of them are from the later years of Transformers (Headmasters, etc.) I'm very saddened that this is all they provide. By the way, there are 2 PSA's. I'm not sure why they decided to grant entirely separate sections for these 15 second clips. Again, very dissappointing. Second, there are scenes that look brand spanking new (from the cleanup), then there are scenes that look aged and blurry. I didn't notice at first but there are a few episodes where the switch occurs every so often and becomes noticeable. I'm assuming these scenes were not available for repair when Shout Factory was putting together this set. However, a big positive is the audio. Sound was sometimes a problem during Hasbro cartoons, for example sound effects would be at whisper volume and were obvious mistakes. The audio, from the dozen episodes I've seen so far on these dvds, is fantastic. I'm not sure if Shout Factory fixed the problems or what but it's great. Anyways, overall this is a fantastic set. If you compare the price of all 5 Rhino sets new, factory sealed it will probably be around $300 minimum where the Shout Factory set is half of that ($150 if you can't do the math) and you do get better quality. This really is the definitive set of the Transformers. If you're a fan THIS IS IT!』 (Better than the Rhino releases, but still flawed) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Despite being one of the most popular cartoons of the '80s, The Transformers has had an awful time on DVD. The initial DVDs of The Ultimate Doom (released alongside the then-rare "Rebirth" three-parter on single-disc DVDs) had a pressing error which resulted in a batch of the discs including the "Rebirth" three-parter instead. However, the problems really started when Rhino decided to remaster the series by going back to the original 35mm negatives. Those 35mm reels were incomplete, however: every re-take in the series was not present, forcing Rhino to insert the footage from whatever sources were available. Rhino, was not perfect, however, (far from it, in fact), and many scenes were left uncorrected, and others had poor attempts to digitally alter the 35mm footage to match the broadcast masters. The famous transition sequences even had to be re-inserted in the first four episodes, and a great many were of the incorrect type. Adding insult to injury, the new 5.1 sound mix had added effects, and a great number of episodes from the first two seasons did not have the unaltered audio available (and the company responsible, Magno Sound, lied to everyone about the new effects, even after fans identified sounds from Star Trek: The Next Generation, which first aired as The Transformers entered into the land of perpetual reruns). So, now, leading up to the 25th Anniversary of the fabled animated series, Hasbro assigned home video rights to Shout! Factory, which promptly declared that they would be fixing Rhino's mistakes. The mono mix has returned, lightly stereo-ized but without Magno's alterations (though some episodes, such as The Ultimate Doom Part 3, have reverted from a stronger mix of the effects and music tracks of the Rhino DVDs to the muted mixes that were created in the '80s). And true to their word, Shout! has fixed may of the problems with the prior DVDs. However, there are still a great many errors present, especially in the first season (which was the most problematic of Rhino's releases). Among the things that are still uncorrected: -Incorrect transitions in the second and third parts of the "More Than Meets the Eye" three parter -Rampant amounts of incorrect footage in the recaps and previews for many of the multipart episodes -Numerous shots of missing snowfall in the opening scene of "Fire in the Sky" -A handful of mis-framed shots in "Divide and Conquer" and "SOS Dinobots" (the former episode as the Autobots transform to meet Prime at the weapons factory, and during the battle with the mindless Dinobots in the latter episode) -Starscream colored as Thundercracker at 15:33 of "Fire on the Mountain" and 2:15 of The Ultimate Doom Part 2 -The missing background as the Energon Cubes explode at the climax of The Ultimate Doom Part 3 -Rhino's digital tinkering to fix the 35mm footage of Wheeljack and his Shock Blast Cannon in "Heavy Metal War" -Lava which moves *up* Megatron's face (and gets in his eye) in the last shot of "Heavy Metal War" -The mis-titled title card for "The Master Builders" (titled "The Master Builder" on the DVD) -The *correct* spelling of the word "Decepticon" in the title card of "A Deceptacon Raider in King Arthur's Court" -Missing freeze-frames at the end of two episodes: "Auto Berserk" and "Revenge of Bruticus" -Incorrect openings for all five parts of Season 3's "Five Face of Darkness": Only parts 3 and 5 have the correct video, and unlike the prior Rhino DVDs, the audio is from the normal opening in both parts. -"Dark Awakening", which was altered so as to precede "The Return of Optimus Prime", features only the audio from the original airing (which did not feature Victor Caroli's famous narration). In this era of DVD branching, it seems a bit silly that both versions were not able to appear on the same disc (what with the historical significance of the alternate version). To be fair, the episodes are much improved. "Heavy Metal War", rendered nearly unwatchable on the Rhino DVDs, has only 19 incorrect shots, which is a significant reduction (and many of the differences are rather subtle in those 19 shots). Other episodes with are even more successfully corrected, such as a few seconds of black on Rhino's "Desertion of the Dinobots" Part 1 and the upholding of "War Dawn's" notoriously slowed-down Act 2 (done to cover up the removal of the original-and far more gruesome-crippling of Orion Pax from the final episode). [EDIT: Further investigation by yours truly reveals that the second act of "War Dawn" is still played at the wrong speed-only the voices have been corrected.] Also, the extras are very good, featuring a great number of commercials, an excellent cast reunion, and a conversation with Bob Budiansky that's infinitely better at illustrating his importance to the series than the similar one with Larry Hama that's featured in Shout! Factory's G.I. Joe set. I do, however, find the lack of participation from David Wise (who was at least as important as Flint Dille and Earl Kress, who were re-interviewed for this set, to the series) a bit disconcerting. Also, due to Hasbro's orders, the running order for Season 3 does not match the running order on the packaging of the version of this set offered directly by Shout! Factory as of this writing. However, it is the continued insistence on using the flawed 35mm masters (and not the broadcast masters) that causes the greatest concern with this set, especially when broadcast masters are used on 5 episodes (Season 1's "Countdown to Extinction", Season 3's "The Burden Hardest to Bear", and all three parts of "The Rebirth"), just as they were on the Rhino DVDs, and they look pretty good for their age (and the inconsistency of Sunbow's telecine transfers). Until a more even-handed approach is taken, it's hard to recommend such an expensive DVD box set.』 『TheCompleteGeneration One series!
