Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Two favorite Christmas classics!) 『My kids and I love Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey and The Year Without a Santa Claus so much that we had to buy this set. Freeze Miser and Heat Miser are my favorites from when I was little, thirty years ago!』
(THREE GREAT RANKIN&BASS FAVORITES ON A "MISERS" BUDGET!) 『Yes, it's that time of years again, when anyone old enough to remember these beloved Rankin&Bass classics will be reliving childhood memories watching these shows during the holiday season. It just never seemed like Christmas until Rudolph, Frosty and the rest of the animated holiday gang came on TV each year.
The great new is most of these are available to buy on DVD! Which means you can watch them whenever you want and they look better than ever! This review is for the older release of this holiday special which looks crisp and clean with vibrant colors. There are no special features, but the inclusion of two more Rankin&Bass specials 'Nestor, The Long Eared Christmas Donkey' and 'Rudolph's Shiny New Year' more than makes up for it.
So join Heat Miser, his brother Snow Miser,Rudolph,Nestor, Santa and the rest of the Rankin&Bass holiday gang for some very fond memories and Holiday fun!』
(you have to see nestor!) 『one of the best Christmas stories of all time and even better, its come with 2 more!!! so worth it!!!』
(Brilliant Claymation Holiday Musical) 『TYWSC is an animation masterpiece by the remarkable Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Rankin/Bass had a prolific stretch of productions using stop-motion puppet animation ("Animagic"), beginning with the ever-popular Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in 1962.
Many of these Rankin/Bass "Animagic" productions are interesting on several levels, since they often pulled the holiday away from religious moorings (with a couple of exceptions) and contributed to the huge holiday commercial machine (music, decorations, TV, now video and DVD) but at the same time celebrated the secular-humanist qualities of Christmas, such as cheer and pleausure of giving or sharing for their own sake. TYWSC, like some of these others, is in fact a pagan, feminist and still moralizing tour de force. Full review here: http://pearlsbee4swine.blogspot.com/2006/12/in-praise-of-pagan-feminist.html』
(still waiting) 『i have not received this yet its been almost a month and im getting angry.i cant figure out how to let amazon know that it hasn't come yet please, somebody tell me』 『At the North Pole, the Christmas rush is on. Everyone from elves to reindeer are merrily preparing for Santa Claus’ yearly sleigh ride. Everyone…except Santa! Feeling forgotten by the children of the world, old St. Nick decides to skip his gift-giving journey and take a vacation. Eager to help, Mrs. Claus and two spunky little elves set out to see where all the season’s cheer has disappeared to. Aided bya magical snowfall, they reawaken the spirit of Christmas in children’s hearts – and put Santa back in action. Shirley Booth and Mickey Rooney (as Mrs. And Mr. Claus) are the starring voices in this wonderful Yuletide favorite. Year: 1974』 『This DVD contains three holiday titles from Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass.
The Year Without a Santa Claus Even Santa can suffer a case of the holiday blues. In this 1974 stop-motion holiday family favorite, a sparkly eyed Mrs. Claus (voiced by Shirley Booth) sings and tells about the year her hubby felt too weary and too unappreciated to prepare for his annual Christmas rounds. Mickey Rooney stars as the voice of Santa, a rosy-nosed puppet who travels incognito to Southtown in search of his tiniest reindeer, Vixen, and two well-meaning elves. Seems Mrs. Santa sent them to find proof of Christmas spirit--but all they've discovered is ambivalence about Santa's year off. Luckily, when Santa arrives and befriends a buck-toothed lad named Ignatius Thistlewhite, spirits begin to lift rapidly. Adult fans of this cousin to the 1970 television specialSanta Claus Is Coming to Townwill remember it as the Heat and Snow Miser movie. Their vaudevillian theme songs, complete with trombone and piano riffs, are hard to forget, but other treasured musical moments include "I Believe in Santa Claus," "I'll Have a Blue Christmas Without You," and "Here Comes Santa Claus."--Liane Thomas
Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey The wondrous story of Christ's birth is told by an unlikely source: Nestor, a gentle donkey with incredibly long ears and a first-hand knowledge of life in a stable. This simple tale, which takes place in the days of the Roman Empire, is about a humble couple about to take a long journey to Bethlehem and a small, insignificant donkey that is destined to help them along. By all outward appearances, Nestor does not deserve such a privilege. Stable animals tease him incessantly for his long appendages until, finally, he is cast out of the barn into the winter cold. Snow and ice bring about even greater calamity for Nestor until he receives a dose of divine goodness. Nestor meets Tilly, a heavenly cherub (voiced by Brenda Vaccaro) who imparts guidance to the despairing burro and tells him that soon he will be chosen to participate in a miracle involving a star, a baby, a lowly stable, and some travelers named Mary and Joseph. Short and sweet, this stop-motion Christmas gem from Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass is narrated by Roger Miller. Get out the hanky for an understated holiday classic that will appeal to families of all ages.--Lynn Gibson
Rudolph's Shiny New Year Rudolph is legendary for saving Christmas, but did you know he saved the New Year as well? While Santa Claus is recuperating from his December sleigh ride, he receives a letter from an old friend, Father Time. Seems that Baby New Year is missing, and if the little tyke isn't found, Old Year will continue forever--a catastrophe for Father Time, whose job it is to keep things moving forward. A search party is essential, yet with such thick fog, there's only one reindeer fit for the job. "Rudolph with your nose so bright, you've six days left to set things right," says Santa. Trouble hits immediately when Rudolph discovers that Aeon the Terrible, a big-beaked monster bird, is also searching for the missing baby. Rudolph gets help from a giant whale and a good-natured caveman, who dish up plenty of song and dance in between narrow escapes in their race against the end of the calendar year. Sound far-fetched? Perhaps, but it contains as much magic as its predecessors,Rudolph the Red-Nosed ReindeerandSanta Claus Is Comin' to Town, all produced and directed by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr., and written by the esteemed Romeo Muller. The same stop-motion animation we've grown to love is here as well, and narrator Red Skelton has as trusted a voice as Burl Ives and Fred Astaire. While the New Year holiday will never be as celebrated as Christmas, this title is a welcome addition to any Rankin and Bass collection of holiday films.--Lynn Gibson』

(Why? Why did Criterion do this?) 『Criterion says that they do "important" films. This film is about as important as speck of dirt. If they're going for "worst movie ever" importance, then why not do Plan 9 instead?』
(Arrmageddon on with the film!) 『This is one of my all time favorite films! I only had the VHS and, because I watch it so often I'm certain the tape was wearing thin! I finally broke down and made the DVD purchase when I got a new player for the bedroom....How great to see this in a format that is so much better! Yeah for the digital world...and Bruce Willis (with a great cast)!!!』
(A global killer - nothing survives) 『4 of 5 stars for this sci-fi movie. A global killer--nothing survives, not even bacteria. An asteroid the size of Texas is en route to the Earth. With only 18 days before impact what do you do? Some early arriving asteroids (basketball size) rake NYC doing extreme damage. The only choice? Nuke it. How do you do that? Send a crew to drill a hole into the asteroid, implant the nuke, blast-it to break the asteroid into little bits. OK, who do you get to drill the hole? How about a crew of rough-necks (lead by Bruce Willis)? Things get complex when it turns out the asteroid is solid metal and it breaks drill bits.
Very strong acting and characters. Willis really hits a home run with his character. Great special effects. The concept is a bit old, but, this is a fresh version. I do recommend this movie!』
(Fun, but Verbose) 『Armageddon / B00000G3PA
*Spoilers*
If I were rating "Armageddon" based on the first 45 minutes or so alone, I'd probably give it a solid four stars, maybe even five. The movie starts strong, with a canny blend of immediate disaster and relevant exposition (as opposed to some disaster movies that force you to sit through 30 minutes of character set-up before you get a whiff of nature-turning-sour) alongside humorous character introduction. The triangle between father, daughter, and lover is an amusing one, and Tyler in particular shines as she balances a complex tightrope of emotions - distance and frustration, anger, worry, and a touch of amused contempt. The high note continues as the obligatory Introduction/Recruiting scenes start rolling, and the film is canny enough to drape everything in over-the-top humor - the men want to be reimbursed for their efforts by knowing "the truth" about JFK, having their parking tickets overturned, and being taken permanently off the IRS rolls. Even better, Billy Bob Thornton plays the straight man to all this and plays it well, highlighting the wacky fun and exposition.
Unfortunately, about the time after lift-off, the amusing chuckles become less frequent. Frankly, the movie's biggest failing here (in my opinion) is the decision to put so much focus on Affleck. I've got nothing against the man as an actor, but the entire set-up with him being sectioned off with the crazy Russian astronaut solely and specifically for the purpose of him (a) ramping over the moon Dukes-of-Hazzard style and (b) climactically showing up at the last moment when everything has conveniently broken is just so much tedium and is far too long. Frequent shots back to Thornton and Tyler on earth are included here to heighten the tension, but without Willis to play off of, the shots fall relatively flat and begin to occur too frequently.
Ultimately, "Armageddon" is a decent disaster film, and probably one of the best known, but I find I can no longer sit through the entire movie without fast-forwarding through a good deal of the filler middle. I can't help but feel that the final product would have been better if all the side stuff with Affleck had been cut - either such that he was never separated in the first place, or such that his trek back to the others takes place largely outside of the actual movie. I understand wanting to ramp off of moon cliffs as a director - after all, it's cool and it was also probably intended as comic relief - but ultimately I just feel that "Armageddon" is a little too long and a little too bloated at the middle, despite the strong beginning.』 『From the blockbuster-making team who produced and directed PEARL HARBOR and THE ROCK (Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay) comes the biggest movie of 1998 -- ARMAGEDDON! Starring the explosive talents of Bruce Willis (DIE HARD), Academy Award(R)-winners Ben Affleck (GOOD WILL HUNTING) and Billy Bob Thornton (SLING BLADE), Liv Tyler (INVENTING THE ABBOTTS), Steve Buscemi (CON AIR), and Will Patton (INVENTING THE ABBOTTS), ARMAGEDDON is a meteor storm of action-adventure moviemaking that has you on the edge of your seat forgetting to breathe! When NASA's executive director, Dan Truman (Thornton), realizes the Earth has 18 days before it's obliterated by a meteor the size of Texas, he has only one option -- land a ragtag team of roughneck oil drillers on the asteroid and drop a nuclear warhead into its core. Spectacular special effects, laugh-out-loud humor, great characters, riveting storytelling, and heartfelt emotion make ARMAGEDDON an exhilarating thrill ride you'll want to experience like there's no tomorrow.』 『The latest testosterone-saturated blow-'em-up from producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Michael Bay (The Rock,Bad Boys) continues Hollywood's millennium-fueled fascination with the destruction of our planet. There's no arguing that the successful duo understands what mainstream American audiences want in their blockbuster movies--loads of loud, eye-popping special effects, rapid- fire pacing, and patriotic flag waving. Bay's protagonists--the eight crude, lewd, oversexed (but lovable, of course) oil drillers summoned to save the world from a Texas-sized meteor hurling toward the earth--are not flawless heroes, but common men with whom all can relate. In this huge Western-in-space soap opera, they're American cowboys turned astronauts. Sci-fi buffs will appreciate Bay's fetishizing of technology, even though it's apparent he doesn't understand it as anything more than flashing lights and shiny gadgets. Smartly, the duo also tries to lure the art-house crowd, raiding the local indie acting stable and populating the film with guys like Steve Buscemi, Billy Bob Thornton, Owen Wilson, and Michael Duncan, all adding needed touches of humor and charisma. When Bay applies his sledgehammer aesthetics to the action portions of the film, it's mindless fun; it's only whenArmageddontackles humanity that it becomes truly offensive. Not sinceMississippi Burninghave racial and cultural stereotypes been substituted for characters so blatantly--African Americans, Japanese, Chinese, Scottish, Samoans, Muslims, French ... if it's not white and American, Bay simplifies it. Or, make that whitemaleAmerica; the film features only three notable females--four if you count the meteor, who's constantly referred to as a "bitch that needs drillin'," but she's a hell of a lot more developed and unpredictable than the other women characters combined. Sure, Bay's film creates some tension and contains some visceral moments, but if he can't create any redeemable characters outside of those in space, what's the point of saving the planet?--Dave McCoy』

There has to be enough "wierdness" in it to excite the imagination. EUREKA succeeds on both counts. The Sheriff and his daughter were outsiders who fell into the job so every day is totally new to him. But it is the comedy that really makes it flow. I own Season One and now Season Two. I intend to buy Season Three if the Producers ever come to their senses and sell it as a whole instead of Part 1 and Part 2. What is that anyway?!?』
(Fresh, original, and funny) 『There are very few things on modern tv that are actually worth the effort to turn on the boob tube, but Eureka is one of the few. Take one part science fiction, one part cop show, and one part comedy. Shake well in a test tube and you get Eureka. The show revolves around the town sheriff. He`s pretty much an average Joe. Just happens to be the sheriff in a town filled with the smartest people on the planet. But one of the first things he has learned in this job is that a high I.Q. is no guarantee of common sense, or even sanity. The comedic results are often priceless. 』

The only caution - it is extremely addictive!』 『It's the same small town but the hidden secrets are even bigger in the city of Eureka when it returns to DVD withEureka: Season Two! The 3-disc DVD set includes every episode from season two plus over 10 hours of behind-the-scenes extras. Discover the mysteriously-surreal, quirky series whenEureka: Season Twoappears on DVD!』 『Plenty of new television series need a season or two to sort themselves out, and as this three-disc, 13-episode (plus bonus features) box set from the second season (2007) reveals, the Sci-Fi Channel’sEurekais still a work in progress--which is not a bad thing, considering that it’s one of the more provocative and ambitious shows out there. For the uninitiated, here’s the basic premise: Sheriff Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson), accompanied by his teenage daughter Zoe (Jordan Hinson), is stationed in Eureka, a picturesque little burg somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. Eurekais hardly Anytown, USA; indeed, this is the place where "the world’s greatest thinkers" live and work, most of them at Global Dynamics, "the most advanced scientific facility in the world." It’s also a place where exceedingly strange things happen on a regular basis. In Season Two, those happenings include people spontaneously combusting, becoming invisible, turning into gold, or simply disappearing (and leaving nothing behind--not even a memory that they ever existed); a "personal force field" that’s growing so large and so fast that it will soon engulf the whole town, and maybe even the whole world; freaky weather that changes by the moment; and even an experiment to re-create the Big Bang inside a Global Dynamics lab, leading to some unexpected side effects.
These developments are all presented with enough cool special effects and scientific techno-babble to makeEurekaa perfectly viable and sometimes quite dramatic science fiction diversion. But there’s more--much more. Sometimes this is a show about relationships: Jack and Zoe (custody becomes an issue when Jack’s ex, played by Olivia D’Abo, shows up in the early episodes); Jack and Allison Blake (Salli Richardson), Global Dynamics’ new boss (their growing attraction is complicated by the continued presence ofherex, a genius scientist type); Jack and his pal Henry (Joe Morton), who blames Jack for his girlfriend’s death but gradually learns there’s more to it than that. Much of the time it’s a comedy, heavy on the quirks; and, in a change from the first year, it’s also a serial, with several story arcs continuing over the course of the season. All of that can makeEurekaa but convoluted and hard to get a handle on, but this show is a keeper. Extensive bonus features include deleted scenes, gag reels, podcast commentaries, and a good deal more.--Sam Graham』

The kids love watching the old looney tunes and it is pretty funny to watch and remember them again. Still, mostly very funny.』
(Idiots make me mad!) 『Don't listen to nitpickers who tear apart a lot of hard work--this is hardly a "sleazy" attempt by the evil Warner bean-counters to "unload" black and white or substandard cartoons. This is a labor of love designed to get every cartoon out to the adult collector. If you don't like it, you're a trash-talking flame-thrower who wouldn't understand a conversation about finger painting, let alone art. If you like the Warner Brothers cartoons, you'll be picking up EVERY set--and they all have hits and misses.』

("Hassaaan chop!!") 『This collection is one of the best ones out of the series. Watching these old classic cartoons took me back to those Saturday mornings that I spent as child, watching Looney Tunes, wrapped up in my favorite blanket eating a bowl of my favorite cereal. Even today Bugs and the gang still make me laugh. They don't make cartoons like this anymore.』

』 『The fifth collection of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies continues Warner Bros.' scattershot approach, mixing classics and obscurities. Among the best-known and funniest cartoons are "Ali Baba Bunny" (Daffy yelling, "I'm rich! I'm socially secure!"), "Bewitched Bunny" (Witch Hazel galloping off in a cloud of hair pins), and "Buccaneer Bunny" (a sterling example of one of director Friz Freleng's favorite gags: having the characters run up and down stairs and in and out of various doors). "Gold Diggers of '49" and "Little Red Walking Hood" show Tex Avery beginning to explore the self-reflexive gags that would be become one of the hallmarks of his mature style. In "Walking Hood," Grandma stops the action to answer the phone and place her order with the grocer--including a case of gin. "The Daffy Doc" is Bob Clampett at his most surreal, with Daffy and Porky getting sucked into an iron lung, bulging and shrinking like balloon animals. Some of the earliest cartoons predate the adoption of "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down" as the theme song for the Warner Bros. cartoons. Many shorts from the early '30s were built around songs from Warner's musicals: "I've Got to Sing a Torch Song" (written forGold Diggers of 1933) features caricatures of Mae West, George Bernard Shaw, Benito Mussolini, and Bing Crosby frolicking to the title tune. Greta Garbo delivers the closing, "That's All, Folks!" Like the previous four sets,Golden Collection Volume 5comes loaded with extras that range from three WWII films in which Mr. Hook urges sailors to buy war bonds to "Extremes and In-Betweens: A Life in Animation" (2000), a documentary about Oscar-winning director Chuck Jones. Many of these cartoons will have viewers of all ages in stitches. But oh well, it ended nicely and we have the box sets to enjoy the show again and again.
I know it is probably hopeless but don't give up, maybe it can be returned to TV assuming miracles really do happen. This really reminded me of the time Dark Angel was canceled (and a hundred other shows that I adored which aired on FOX).

(Subtitle madness) 『I really like this show, it's the best since the Terminator 2 movie. The only thing I don't understand is why the Blu-ray doesn't have portuguese subtitles, since Brazil and USA are in the same Blu-ray region (region A), on the other hand the DVD version of the same product has portuguese subtitles and remember that, unlike blu-ray, DVDs from USA and Brazil have different region numbers (1 and 4 respectively). I already noticed the same problem with Fringe and Smallville, I think that a blu-ray disc should have all the subtitles related to the region of the disc. Other than that I love this show, 5 stars.』 『The time: today. The stakes: all our tomorrows. A nascent AI, assisted by droids, continues to edge toward world domination and the ruin of humankind. They must find and terminate him. But Sarah Connor is there, protecting and instructing her son as he becomes the man he’s destined to be. The hunt is on in a season of powerful revelations, breathless pursuits and bravura effects. Someone you think is a human turns out to be a shape-shifting Terminator. There are confusing forays through time and discussions about what happened when in which version of the past and/or future. But really, the second season ofTerminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles--unfortunately the final season of the series--is about family, connections, and the things we do to protect the ones we love. Sarah Connor (Lena Headey) has an especially rough road, nearly dying and becoming obsessed with a three-dot symbol and detours through a world of UFO obsessives. John Connor (Thomas Dekker), a.k.a. the guy who will grow up to lead humanity's resistance to the hated machines, gets tough and gets a girlfriend. His uncle Derek (Brian Austin Green) gets a girl as well, and the women in their lives turn out to have a surprising connection. Cameron (Summer Glau), the Terminator sent to protect John, suffers some damage and reveals some surprisingly human secrets of her own as her relationship with John gets more emotional and complicated. (San Francisco movie) 『This seller was very prompt. I would buy from them again. The movie was as I remembered it. A treasure from the past.』
(A timely gem.) 『This film is a little rough around the edges; The acting can get a little exaggerated, MacDonald's screeching is hardly attractive, and the sentimentality is clear.
But what struck me about this film is how you will never see such a thing in modern filmmaking. Nowadays a film like this would be relegated to the ghetto of "chick flick", all of the appealing and serious aspects would be taken out, and gobs of vapidity would be heaped on.
Back then Hollywood was not afraid to have a serious and religious film, backgrounded with historical importance, that nonetheless focuses mainly on a romantic plot between a man and a woman. It was not afraid to have a strong female character who goes too and fro between her suitors, despite the presence of a tiger such as Mr. Gable. It was not afraid to have a character so truly good at heart that he had not a shred of selfishness as Mr. Tracy's. And it was not afraid to have the villain not only not all bad, but with a truly sympathetic mother and who gives his life for the heroine. All sides are ultimately presented as truly human and truly a part of San Francisco: the rich and poor, the priests and the whores (though the Chinese are left in the background). It was not afraid of the symbolism of a community walking arm in arm singing a religious hymm; with a tone of purpose and seriousness which can only come from 1930s or 40s America. And it was not afraid of happy endings that actually felt real, an ending that not so subtly symbolized America's resurrection from the Great Depression as San Fransisco's recovery from the 1906 earthquake. One can only hope that, that spirit of community and maturity can return to this country. Nowadays we have the artsy indie film, the romantic comedy, the strong but secondary female character in a man's film, and everything else. But we no longer have the serious womans' film, or real community film (of which the later Studio era produced many, including Grapes of Wrath, Gone With the Wind, It's a Wonderful Life, and Best Years of Our Lives). So to say that they no longer make them like this is no hollow boast or simply nostalgic tripe, but a real reflection of what some might say a cheapening of the movies. Molly Haskell would find it a pity.』
(San Franciso) 『Great movie - thank you. Could you please carry more of the Janet MacDonald movies in DVD.』 『Romantic drama combines with humor, starpower combines with lavish spectacle and the walls come tumbling down! This Academy Award?-winning* extravanganza's street-splitting, brick-cascading, fire-raging recreation of the cataclysmic earthquake remains "one of the greatest action sequences in the history of the cinema, rivalling the chariot race in both Ben-Hurs" (Adrian Turner, Time Out Film Guide). Clark Gable plays rakish Barbary Coast kingpin Blackie Norton. Jeanette MacDonald portrays a singer torn by her love for Blackie and her need to succeed among the operagoing elite. Earning the first of nine career Best Actor Oscar? nominations,* Spencer Tracy is a priest who supplements spiritual advice with a mean right hook. He urges Blackie to change. But if love and religion can't reform Blackie, Mother Nature will.』 『"San Francisco, open your Golden Gate...." If the classic city anthem isn't part of your life already, it will be after a viewing of this 1936 hit, a wonderful blend of cornpone, spectacle, and song. It's set in 1906, the year the earthquake flattened much of Baghdad by the Bay. Like the disaster movies that followed (includingIn Old Chicago, a Fox cash-in from a couple of years later),San Franciscoslowly establishes its characters before unleashing the destruction. Clark Gable is Blackie Norton, a cocky and ruthless Barbary Coast character whose heart is--well, not softened, but at least dented by the arrival of an opera singer (Jeanette MacDonald) looking for a job. He hires her for his rowdy club, while his childhood chum, Father Tim Mullin (Spencer Tracy), disapproves. As they would subsequently demonstrate inTest PilotandBoom Town, Gable and Tracy have great he-man rapport together (Blackie's rampant maleness is challenged only by the fact that he knows the priest could punch him out). Director W.S. Van Dyke (The Thin Man) keeps everything cracking along, except for those moments when Cultcha rears its head and MacDonald sings an aria. When the quake hits, and the fire follows, the movie uncorks some really quite awesome special effects, including the unforgettable image of a street heaving up and separating under people's feet--much superior to the disaster effects inThe Last Days of Pompeii, made just a year earlier. Needless to say, this could only be MGM in its heyday, laying on the big budget, an acceptable level of naughtiness, and a dose of religious turnaround in the end. It worked then; it still does.--Robert Horton』

Therefore, You admire a new branch of films and filmmaking you didn't know was out there. Everything was in this movie great dialogue, music, suspense, actors and there is very little I didn't enjoy. I knew all the long conversation would lead up to something I wasn't expecting and boy was I right. The car chase in the second half was also exciting and it has a very different turn out from the first half (it seems Mike is more a pussy cat than a lion as he portrayed previously) I learned a lesson from this to always follow my instinct regarding what films I choose to watch. The media is so obsessed with Jennifer Aniston, JLo, Britney crap that, that is all they talk about. There was no buzz over this film and thus my interest went from 10 to 0. I'm sure Britney was drunk driving again when this came out so the focus was on her, or maybe Jennifer Aniston was getting dumped again for the 100th time. All I have to say is watch this with an open mind because it is a very interesting and entertaining film. The fact that I'm still thinking about the film 2 days later and looking info about it online says a lot.
PS Regarding the fake trailer you can Youtube them, I did and like everyone said over the top campy and funny. PPS Planet Terror is next and I can't wait.』
(Just Enjoy the Ride) 『As I'm sure you already know, Death Proof originally served as the second half of Grindhouse and this DVD edition is an extended cut of that version. Written, directed, and photographed by Quentin Tarantino, Death Proof is a loving homage to 1970s exploitation/grindhouse cinema, not just in story but in style as well. As the film begins, we're treated to an intentionally scratched and poorly edited print...It all adds to the fun of the experience.
Initially, we meet three young women (Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Vanessa Ferlito, and Jordan Ladd) whom we'll follow for about the first 50 minutes of the movie. This serves as the set-up, also introducing Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell), the diabolical antagonist.
Grindhouse fans may be pleased to know that the "Missing Reel" has been restored and we see Arlene (Ferlito, who looks like a low-rent Angelina Jolie) giving Stuntman Mike his lapdance.
Death Proof does hit a roadblock relatively early on. Tarantino generally has a deep affection for his characters, as if his characters are his friends. However, this initial group of girls doesn't seem to have that affection. They seem less like friends than annoying acquaintances one only mildly enjoys hanging out with. That's probably why they're gone less than an hour into the movie.
14 months after meeting the initial girls, we meet four different girls; it's at this point that the scratches and other grindhouse elements disappear, along with the original tone established for the movie. The four new girls also seem to have Tarantino's affection. The characters are fun to watch and real-life stuntwoman Zoe Bell (playing herself) has a charming screen presence.
Beyond all the grindhouse elements, Tarantino also takes some time to reference his own films and Italian giallo films. It would be easy to argue that Death Proof seems more like a loosely strung-together homage than a fully-realized story...But rather than focus on that, it's a lot more fun if you just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Furthermore, Stuntman Mike is a memorable antagonist and Kurt Russell is delightfully charming and sinister. It's nice to see him taking a break from his recent family-friendly fare.
A lot of people have found Death Proof disappointing and, they're right, this is not a masterpiece. It wasn't meant to be though and this should not be overlooked. Finally, some have seen the ending as an anticlimax...But how else could this film have ended? An epilogue would not have been necessary. What one has to look at here is that Tarantino's loving homage does rise above it's influences. It is pretty good and it made me nostalgic for 1970s grindhouse movies, despite the fact that I wasn't alive in the 1970s. With it's faults, Death Proof is a good, exciting, and entertaining movie, inspired by movies that were never considered particularly good...That's an achievement in itself.
GRADE: B』
(A Fine Return To Form) 『Though sometimes spotty in parts, Death Proof is a great return to form for what makes his movies such a thrill to love in the first place. After the silly Kill Bill (overrated) and the underrated and slow-paced Jackie Brown (underrated), Death Proof's got much of the stuff I kind of missed from Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Certainly, it's got quite possibly the most interesting plot on paper, nothing deep or insightful, but this is a geek-experience, established greatly by the homages, conversations about Vanishing Point, and British Pop Bands, and the whole look of the movie. And besides, it's a _________ Tarantino movie! I don't think you'd expect a Tarantino movie to be very boring, eh? Exacly.
Death Proof, released as Grindhouse with Planet Terror (which I have not seen), deals with a pretty absurd form of a serial killer misogynist, who murders women with a stunt car (a sick stunt car, by the way). It's a pretty stupid idea on paper, something that is pretty worthy of being a 70's grindhouse movie, and nothing else (as well as Planet Terror). But with Quentin Tarantino at the helm, it turns into a well-scripted, blast of fun, while still feeling like a drive-in Grindhouse flick. It nails the feel of the movie, the ladies are pretty hot (My favorites were Shanna and Kim), the soundtrack is another winner, exhilarating action, and it's got the inevitable way of sucking you into the world of Austin, Texas. This is a Tarantino movie, and nothing else.
In my opinion, Tarantino hasn't done directing quite like this, as I think's it's hist best so far. Sure, Tarantino is not extremely innovative or anything of that nature, but Death Proof has atmosphere, style, and cool shots everywhere galore. From adding the "our feature presentation" opener (complete with the Funky Fanfare music) to the deliberate worn-out look of this movie, it's more stylized than anything else Tarantino has ever done. Tarantino's use of close-upts gets us shots of car parts, jukeboxes, and feet. And the dialogue is expertely handled, as well as the action. I think that no one can really do Tarantino's dialogue the way he can. Tony Scott kind of ruined True Romance, and From Dusk Till' Dawn isn't lookin very good either, even though Robert Rodgriguez did a slighty better job adapting a Tarantino sceenplay.
Death Proof really is not as bad as everybody says. So see it now.
B』 『A deranged stuntman stalks his victims from the safety of his killer car, but when he picks on the wrong group of badass babes, all bets are off in an adrenaline-pumping, high speed, white-knuckle automotive duel of epic proportions, where anything can happen.』 『Loud, fast, and proudly out of control,Grindhouseis a tribute to the low-budget exploitation movies that lurked at drive-ins and inner city theaters in the '60s and early '70s. Writers/directors Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) cooked up this three-hour double feature as a way to pay homage to these films, and the end result manages to evoke the down-and-dirty vibe of the original films for an audience that may be too young to remember them. Tarantino'sDeath Proofis the mellower of the two, relatively speaking; it's wordier (as to be expected) and rife with pulp/comic book posturing and eminently quotable dialogue. It also features a terrific lead performance by Kurt Russell as a homicidal stunt man whose weapon of choice is a souped-up car. Tarantino's affection for his own dialogue slows down the action at times, but he does provide showy roles for a host of likable actresses, including Rosario Dawson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rose McGowan, Sydney Poitier, and newcomer Zoe Bell, who was Uma Thurman's stunt double inKill Bill. Detractors may decry the rampant violence and latch onto a sexist undertone in Tarantino's feature, but for those viewers who grew up watching these types of films in either theaters or on VHS, such elements will be probably be more of a virtue than a detrimental factor. --Paul Gaita』

I appreciate the multicultural, multiracial casting and the strong voices of all of the performers. it is the classic tale, but with a spin that makes it more contemporary and interesting.』
(Love it!) 『This is one of the most charming presentations ever of Cinderella! Everyone is superb.』
(Entertaining Colorful and Comtemporary) 『Cinderella is one of my favorites fairy tale and I really enjoyed this version of Rodgers&Hammerstein's Cinderella. It is an entertaining, colorful, comtemporary version of a classic tale and classic Rodgers&Hammerstein music. It's one of those remakes where either you love it or you hate it and I love it.』
(I loved it all my life) 『I have purchased this movie three times in my lifetime, my third one being on DVD, I dissagree strongly with the review of the the 1997 remake of cinderella, This remake truely blew it out the park. This version of cinderella made it my favorite movie ever which I can watch over and over again with out getting bored, and for me to be a straight male thats quite awkward, but I look forward to sitting down and watching this wonderful Movie.』
(Wonderful re-make of an old classic.) 『I absolutely love this version of the classic Rodger's and Hammerstein's classic musical. All of the perfomers do a magnificent job, and the 3 added songs add a perfect touch. The producers tried a little too hard to be "color blind" (black+white= asian, really???) but they meant well. Buy this DVD while it's still available. Your kids will love it!! 』 『A prince, a pumpkin, a glass slipper ... history's most enduring fairy tale returns with a thoroughly modern twist! Beautifully produced and featuring an all-star cast, RODGERS&HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA shimmers to life in the most spectacular production ever of the classic musical -- including three additional Rodgers&Hammerstein songs exclusive to this special Disney presentation! Pop sensation Brandy (TV's MOESHA) stars as the beautiful Cinderella, who suffers the torment of her wicked stepmother (Bernadette Peters) and spoiled stepsisters. Cinderella dreams of the impossible -- going to the ball and dancing with the prince. Her impossible dream is realized when her fairy godmother (Whitney Houston) teaches her that with positive thinking and belief in yourself, "impossible things happen every day!" Also starring Jason Alexander (TV's SEINFELD) and Whoopi Goldberg (SISTER ACT), Disney's sparkling new version of RODGERS&HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA promises to be an instant classic. Now you can relive the magic anytime you wish!』 『More is not necessarily better. A glitzy Hollywood cast and a big budget did not improve the wonderful 1957 teleplay (or its equally charming 1964 remake) upon which this version is based. This is partly because Brandy, cast in the title role, cannot act. Not helping matters are Whoopi Goldberg as the prince's mother and Jason Alexander as his valet. Their shtick wears thin very quickly. However, Paolo Montalban is charismatic as the prince, and Whitney Houston plays a fairy godmother with pizzazz. The production cost millions, and is certainly lavish, but the whole affair feels forced and overdone, reminding one of a prom queen wearing too much makeup. It does deserve credit for a multi-ethnic cast, the addition of two new songs and a hip attitude. However, the 1964 version (the original was not taped) is much sweeter and more romantic. There is no salvation for T4 or this game. They are both mundane&trite.
They took no time to doctor up this movie. The chapters are short. The video is grainy&flawed, just like a video game, only not as engaging.
You would have to be a machine to enjoy this movie. :(
FF is still on my shelf. Salvation is going bye bye ...』
(Chessy but good) 『I don't know, I kinda liked it. So far Terminator franchise has peaked my curiosity. I just don't like the look of this movie. They could have done better with CGI or whatever they call it nowadays.』
(Bad Ass) 『this series is awesome, there only one thing that kinda sux, but its not such a big deal. everytime each chapter ends they show the credits.........i didnt like that cuz i kinda takes away from the action and the story. other then that this dvd is awesome, i recommend it to all terminator fans and anyone who isnt :)』
(In many ways...) 『Far, far better than that limp fourth movie since the story is far more concise. Yes, the graphics of that game is truly lacking of which this was taken from but again, it's the story that grabs you in the end. In my opinion, this should be enjoyed for the story itself. It told a tale of people trying to survive the aftermath of "Judgment Day" and since it was only an hour long at most video, tying in the Connor tread would of made it even better.
On its own, the action choreography was excellent with a climax of a train chase worthy of any live action flick. The main protagonist showed more cunning in this video then she ever did in the movie. You sorta got a retard there in the movie if you compared that character in this video!
Sadly, the producers didn't go the distances and combine the six chapters to make a complete package. They just slapped all six chapters into the disc and threw it out. Something close to 4~5 minutes in total was wasted in recaps of the previous episode. Watching the making of, I saw that some extra movements not in the game had to be put into it so I wondered why didn't they try to make the the faces just a little bit more animated?
I would of rated it a solid four stars, but for the mistakes mentioned in the last paragraph I had to knock off a star. I recommend a purchase since its one of the best out of the Terminator series in these last few years.』
(An interesting take on the character of Blair.) 『This is a truly intriguing look at Blair Williams. We get to see her in much more of a leadership role in this series than we did in Terminator Salvation. If you liked the character in novels and/or the movie, you'll like this series quite a bit.』 『"My name is Blair Williams. I fight for the Resistance." The resourceful A-10 pilot from Terminator Salvation has her own story in this kick-'bot prequel filmed via the innovative Machinima process that turns video-game elements into a full-blown animated story. Moon Bloodgood reprises her T4 role, providing the voice of Williams as she takes on an explosive mission to track what or who is disrupting comm links during the Resistance’s fierce guerrilla war against Skynet. T-600s emerge, guns blazing. MotoTerminators patrol post-Apocalyptic L.A. Aerostats hover. Hunter Killers rain death. Machinima delivers action and style in a big way. Reboot the future with Terminator Salvation: The Machinima Series.』

Of course it's not 100% "true" to the original (20-minute) cartoon or the book. You gotta fill a 2-hr+ movie with something, so they came up with a lot more material and a back story... we all adore the mildly adult and sometimes twisted humor, anti-Christmas dialog, great effects, and some of the funniest lines I've ever heard in a movie. I generally hate Jim Carrey, but in this role, he truly cracks me up. I am ordering the Blu-Ray version to replace my regular DVD... It's a holiday staple at our house, and will continue to be forever.
For those who expected a charming, nostalgic full-length children's book movie version of this classic tale, I suggest you settle for the original cartoon... This takes the story to a new, (and funnier) level, and I for one, think it's great entertainment!』 『Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 10/13/2009 Rating: Pg』
