(great family movie)
『I thought this was going to be another silly kiddy sleuth movie but it was nothing as I expected. It is a wonderful movie for family night. Moms, dads and kids should watch it together -- it has a message for everyone in the family.』

(Good Family Movie)
『This film was a good family movie for all ages to enjoy. It had everything from laughter to sadness and all points in between. It was heart warming and funny.』

(When the males wear too much lipstick?)
『The males (both older and younger) wear more lipstick than the females...well that pretty much says it all.

Especially during the last scenes?

Good drama for a child's flick, good sci/fi, but then there is just too much lipstick.

Kiss, kiss!!!』

(Great for family night)
『I agree with several reviews I've read on this movie that 1 - I don't see many adults watching this one without their kids no matter how young-at-heart they are, 2 - the Ricky character and his antics MADE this movie, and 3 - it is almost criminal to have Kevin Nealon, Tim Meadows and Andy Richter together in a movie and not give them more to do.

I have a nine-year old and we watched this together one Friday evening and were entertained through and through. We rewound a lot of the Ricky-the-robot moments.

Seriously, I was really impressed with Robert Hoffman's performance and the physicality of it. I figured out that he must be a dancer pretty early on (I even checked to see if he was in one of the Bring it On movies because of his cheerleader bit), but even his FACIAL expressions were hilarious. Those SYTYCD judges are always saying that to be a good dancer you have to be a good actor. He could build a pretty solid career out of physical comedy roles once dance movies and musicals fall out of fashion again.

I think another large part of my enjoyment was also that I am of the Nintendo generation. I may have kids of my own now, but I "get" video games and why kids like them. So the concept of a Mortal Combat-style battle with live people controlled through video game consoles was very entertaining to me. There were some Matrix-like moves, which has been done to DEATH, but it was with a 70+ GRANDMA, so I enjoyed it without any groans.

As for the underused adult comedians, maybe they were there to pull the adults into the movie seats? KN and TM on Saturday Night Live is when that show was must-see TV for me. That is THE cast in my mind. Or they initially gave them more to do but they realized in the cutting room that this movie is really about the kids? I certainly hope the target audience of this movie don't know who Kevin Nealon is. They do NOT need to be watching his contemporary work.

I will purchase this one, but for my nine-year-old to watch over and over.』

(Ashley Tisdale)
『I never thought I'd see this movie. I seen it starred Ashley Tisdale, so I gave it a try. It was a good movie. It's a great buy to watch with your friends and family. Cute movie!』
『It’s summer vacation, but the Pearson family kids are stuck at a boring lake house with their nerdy parents. That is until feisty, little, green aliens crash-land on the roof, with plans to conquer the house AND Earth! Using only their wits, courage and video game-playing skills, the youngsters mustband together to defeat the aliens and save the world -- but the toughest part might be keeping the whole thing a secret from their parents! Featuring an all-star cast including Ashley Tisdale, Andy Richter, Kevin Nealon and Tim Meadows,Aliens In The Atticis the most fun you can have on this planet!

(Love the extras)
『This is the "Miracle on 34th Street" I remember from childhood. It is one of my favorite movies of all time and none of the remakes compare.

The set includes both the black and white and colorized versions. The colorized version is the one shown on television, not something new and improved. The opening scene was grainy and the color was distorted, as if to remind us this is an old movie. The black and white version is crisp, as it was meant to be shown. Both versions offer the option to view the movie with the Maureen O'Hara commentary, which she does throughout the movie.

I found O'Hara's commentary interesting. Sometimes, she just described what was happening in the scene, which we could see for ourselves. Other times, she would describe what it was like to work with an actor or what was happening behind that scene or on the set. That was a special treat and I sat glued to the set to watch the movie a second time just to hear her talk.

"AMC Backstory" gave a history of the movie and some of the problems behind the set. I found it fascinating, but I did not like that it was cut into clips and run like on television with all the pauses put in for commercials, except we didn't see any commercials. Certainly those pauses could have been edited out.

Also included are the Thanksgiving day parade footage, promotional shorts and the poster gallery.

I was looking forward to the little booklets often inserted into DVD sets, but this set lacks one. Still, it is a wonderful set.

『Order was recieved promptly and in great condition. When I ordered this movie, I was under the assumption that it was the "in-color" version. However, when I got the DVD, I was so happy to realize that it was a two-disk series with all the special features as well as the original black and white and the new color generated versions. Nice touch and for a wonderful price! Thanks!!!

『Great movie, fast shipping from Amazon, we are very pleased with our purchase.
This movie is a classic. If you haven't seen it, buy it. If you have, buy it.
This is one of those "Watch every season" kinda movies.
You'll like it. I promise!』

『A perpetual Christmas favorite, this was part of a CD movie pack that I gave my hubby for Christmas. We both love it. Thanks for the speedy shipping.』

(new holiday tradition)
『My wife and I had never seen this movie and bought it not thinking it would be any good. It was much better entertainment than we expected and is going to be a new holiday tradition for us.
It's not your typical old black and white movie. The story is excellent.』

『Six year old Susan has doubts childhood's most enduring miracle Santa Clause. Her mother told her the "secret" about Santa a long time ago, so Susan doesn't expect to receive the most important gifts on her Christmas list. But after meeting a special departement stare Santa who's convinced he's the real thing, Susan is given the most precious gift of all - something to believe in.』

(afraid the movie won't play)
『I'm going to order this on Amazon, because I'm sending my Netflix copy back to them since 30 minutes into the movie it's impossible to watch. It stops, puts out digital squares and finally covers itself in green digital colors. My only worry is that like reviewer Gerald Hopkins said his doesn't play that mine won't play either.

Netflix once told me the studios increase their security on the DVDs and they think thats what causes so many movies to become unwatchable. Cleaning them makes no difference. I've found almost all the new Disney movies I rent don't work.

I saw Hocus Pocus at the movies when it first was released and have also seen it on tv. I think its a very cute movie and I love Bette Midler in it.』

(Hocus Pocus)
『Purchased this for a Halloween "Family" movie night for a group of volunteers and their families. This was such a funny movie and was perfect for Halloween. Can't believe Sarah Jessica Parker was in it! Not to scary for the young ones but us oldies enjoyed it also. Can't go wrong with Disney.』

(Hocus Pocus)
『Very happy with my purchase and how fast I received it! Thank you so much.』

(DVD Hocus Pocus)
『This has been a FAVORITE movie of our family since it came out.
The story is fun, the acting is great, and you can really watch it at any
time, not just for Halloween. Bette Midler is priceless in this film!』

(Funny! A great Halloweeen movie for kids of all ages.)
『This fabulous little movie is hilarious and touching. Kids of all ages will enjoy the Sanderson sisters antics and especially the talking black cat, Binx. NCIS fans will recognize Binx's human alter ego!

『You're in for a devil of a time when three outlandishly wild witches -- Bette Midler (BEACHES, BIG BUSINESS), Sarah Jessica Parker (HONEYMOON IN VEGAS), and Kathy Najimy (SISTER ACT) -- return from 17th-century Salem after they're accidentally conjured up by some unsuspecting pranksters! It's a night full of zany fun and comic chaos once the tricky 300-year-old trio sets out to cast a spell on the town and reclaim their youth -- but first they must get their act together and outwit three kids and a talking cat! Loaded with bewitching laughs, HOCUS POCUS is an outrageously wild comedy that's sure to entertain everyone!』
『This big, fat theatrical bomb has a lot going for it. There's the three leads, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, playing three resurrected witches who wreak havoc on Salem, Massachusetts, 300 hundred years after they were hung. There's music, special effects, and magic. There's a surprisingly horror-filled plot. Whoops, hold up on that last one. It's probably the extremes that this film goes to (displaying a Disney label), such as the witches sucking the life out of a little girl in the first five minutes, that put the brakes on any success forHocus Pocus. Older children, however, in the 8 and up range should get a kick out of all the weird goings-on. It's a good measure of Halloween thrills and chills.--Keith Simanton

(Way way better than you would expect! More than a parody)
『if Star Trek had never existed and this movie hadn't been created as a parody of it, galaxy Quest would still stand on its own merits as a good space comedy-adventure movie. Fun for the whole family! I enjoy it wayyyy more than Spaceballs』

(Epic Space Spoof)
『As soon as I got the blu ray, I watched it twice! Both times, the scene with the theriminian dying, brought a tear to me eye!』

(Thermian Audio Track?!)
『This is a pretty good movie, but what's the deal with the stupid Thermian Audio Track?! Yeah, that makes sense -- let's waste disc space with a moronic audio track only a few supergeeks will listen to for about 5 minutes before it even gets on THEIR supernerd nerves. We certainly wouldn't want to include a French or Portuguese language track. You know, a REAL language. That wouldn't make sense! Then we'd probably sells thousands of more blu-rays to people who don't understand English or the dubbed Spanish track or (wait for it... wait for it...!) THERMIAN!

Stoopid.』

(Great comedy for Trek fans)
『I am not going to go into story, etc. The upgrade to Bluray us worth it. The picture looks amazing with this new Bluray. Very happy I purchased it.』

The movie has a collection of awesome characters played to perfection by a brilliant cast, and Weaver looks amazing in this film. Her best ever in my opinion, and she's no spring chicken. Good for her. A true Alien-Movie legend, in an great roll, looking super. Galaxy Quest is a truly fun movie that will make you laugh, make you care, and entertain you from start to finish. (Not bad, but Not Great)
『Movie was alright, but was not the best of McConaughey or Garners movie career although was entertaining and enjoyable.』

(beautiful script idea)
『This approach may be a more understandable one to modern kids than Alfie (Full Screen Edition).
The screen play takes the Christmas Dickens classic with the miser Scrooge
and turns the miser into a playboy. When young people need
positive examples that are easy to understand, this movie delivers.
Casual sex is a topic here and the life of the philandering hero
starts to go really down hill when his brother throws him out of
his wedding party after he lets slip about who the brother had slept with.
And ruined the wedding cake as well...
The uncle who had raised him comes back as a ghost and
leads him through getting in contact with his better but forgooten side
using three ghosts of girlfriends.
That there is an happy ending helps. Jennifer Garner
may be more convincing as an action spy hero,
but she pulls this role off as well.』

(Same old, same old)
『I think Matthew McConaghy (while he's one of my favorites) has outgrown these types of parts. This particular movie is a little off the wall. There wasn't much "meat" to the story at all. Just a waste of time.』

(Ghosts of Girlfriends Past)
『This is an excellent movie that I will watch over and over again. Great cast and good story line.』

(Avoid At All Costs)
『This pathetic adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol should be avoided at all costs. It is unintelligent, immoral, irreverant, uninspiring (except for a couple of minutes towards the end) and altogether disappointing. Charles Dickens must have been turning over in his grave with every worthless frame of film.』
『A FREEWHEELING WOMANIZER IS HAUNTED BY THE SPIRITS OF GIRLFRIENDS OF THE PAST, PRESENT&BEYOND AT HIS YOUNGER YOUNGER BROTHER'S WEDDING, AWAKENING LONG-LOST FEELINGS FOR HIS FIRST LOVE.』
『Starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner and directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls),Ghost of Girlfriends Pastseems to be lacking some of the chemistry we have seen from the stars in similar romantic comedies, but is still entertaining and worth a watch. McConaughey plays a womanizer named Conner Mead far from settling down who is forced to take aChristmas Carol-type journey through girlfriends of his past, present and future while attending his brother’s wedding weekend. Jenny (Garner) is the childhood sweetheart and longstanding object of his affection. Will he be able to grow up and admit his love for Jenny before the weekend is over, or will he continue his man-whore ways and lose her forever? Although McConaughey and Garner both tread familiar territory, they’re so good at it that you don’t mind. Some of the best scenes in the movie involve Michael Douglas, who is perfect as Conner’s dead uber-womanizing mentor Uncle Wayne, and Lacey Chabert, who is also hilarious as the stressed out bride-to-be. Yes, it’s predictable and cheesy, but it has some real moments and provides laughs--and that is exactly what a romantic comedy is for. --Lisanne Chastain

(Cropped version!)
『It doesn't seem so long ago that when movies on VHS were cropped on the left and right to fit 4:3 screens, people were indignant over losing a third or more of the original image. Producers responded with letterbox format, which then consisted of adding black bars at the top and bottom to preserve the entire original image.

Now for DVD release, older TV shows are cropped at the top and bottom so the original 4:3 image will fit 16:9 screens. Sometimes they now call this letterboxing! Where is the indignation? Why are there so many five-star ratings on Amazon for the V miniseries without mention of how the image was mutilated?

In fact when the first season of Route 66 was released with the top and bottom cropped, there was much indignation, and the producers responded by re-releasing the season in its original format.

I hope fans of V and other great shows will think about this when posting reviews and ratings. The more people give these versions low ratings and state why, the more likely that producers will do the right thing and stop cropping these shows.』

『this DVD brought back so many memories for me! i remember watching the original mini-series and tv show back in the 80s and being obsessed with them. i remembered so many details while watching these DVDs, it was like i had just seen the episodes a few weeks ago - not 25 years ago!

a MUST BUY for anyone who was a fan of tv in the 80s. :)』

(The Invasion Begins)
『If a ninety-nine out of a hundred science fiction films fall into being cliché ridden, one will stand out above the rest. V, in its original miniseries, would be one of those that stands above the rest. V is anything but your typical science fiction story of an alien invasion. It is a tale of a fascist (alien) takeover of our society and the resistance of a few in a societyto it. As a result V, while a product of the technology and culture of the 1980's, is a timeless piece of science fiction.

One of the elements to V's success is its cast. Leading, so to speak, the cast of human characters are Marc Singer as cameraman Mike Donovan and Faye Grant as med-student turned rebel leader Julie Parrish. Both Singer and Grant give nice performances that, for the most part, come across as real people in extraordinary situations. In fact the performances of the entire cast be described by that last phrase as well ranging from the Maxwell family (Michael Durrell, Penelope Windust as the parents with Blair Tefkin, Viveka Davis and Marin May as their daughters) who find themselves persecuted to the point of joining the resistance much like the Taylor family (Jason Bernard, Richard Lawson and Michael Wright) to the Bernstein family (George Morfogen, Bonnie Bartlett) who find themselves torn between their Visitor friendly son Daniel (David Packer) and the Holocaust survivor grandfather Abraham (Leonardo Cimino). In fact the single best scene involves Abraham, who is wanting to hide the persecuted Maxwell's, reminding his son that this whole situation is all too familiar for the consequences of them not being hidden means "we haven't learned a thing". This is a scene that is not only well acted and well written but incredibly rare in your average science fiction story as well. There's also many other fine members of the cast including Neva Patterson (Donovan's mom), Evan Kim (Donovan's camera partner Tony), Jenny Sullivan (reporter turned Visitor spokeswoman Kristine Walsh) and Kristine Walsh (as Gardener turned rebel Sancho) amongst many others. The human side of the cast is just the tip of the iceberg though.

There's also a fine cast playing the alien "visitors" as well. They range from their seemingly benevolent leader John (played briefly and well by Richard Herd) to Andrew Prine as the authoritative Steven. Then there's the innocent abroad in the form of Robert Englund as Willie and the resistance from within the visitors themselves in the form of Frank Ashmore as Martin and Jenny Neumann as Barbara. Then there is Jane Badler as Diana, perhaps the most attractive and conniving of the alien visitors, who plays the role with a seriousness not usually found in this kind of role. Together they form one of the best, and definitely one of the most diverse, cast of alien invaders ever assembled.

V is also aided by fine work behind the camera. There's the cinematography of John McPherson especially the tracking shot of characters watching the first contact sequence and the scenes in the mother-ship. The production design in the form of the mother ship interiors are fine examples of science fiction sets. There's also the special effects work ranging from the excellent shots of mother-ships (a decade plus before Independence Day) to the aerial dogfight at the end which all work marvelously for the most part despite a very few shots which don't look quite finished. No review of V is complete without mentioned the fine prosthetic work of the miniseries which range from the Visitors true faces to some rather uncomfortable dining sequences. Last, but not least by any means, is the fine score by composer Joe Harnell which takes puts together classical music influences and choir in one of the most unusual and best scores produced for any science fiction television piece I have heard, especially for the opening and closing credits of any part. In short: strong production values go a long way.

To my mind V's ultimate success lies in the script and direction of Kenneth Johnson. V was originally conceived not as a science fiction tale of alien invasion but as the tale of a fascist takeover of the U.S which can still be found deeply embedded in the final product. In fact that is what separates V from many other alien invasion stories. V is about fascism, how people can be lured in by it, how far those in power will go to secure their position, how the average person will react and what happens when ordinary people stand up to resist it. There's also more then a few hints of Nazi Germany as well from the Swastika-like symbol of the Visitors to Friends of the Visitors youth groups (the Hitler Youth) and, before the miniseries is over with, a strong allegory with the Holocaust as well (see the miniseries to get it). Wisely Johnson also puts a fair (but not gratitude) amount of action in as well which helps to compliment the story and move it along. V is embedded in the technology and culture of the 1980's when it was made to sure but that doesn't date the story at all. Instead V becomes, like H.G. Welles War of the Worlds before it, a timeless tale of alien invasion and human resistance to it.

What makes V successful? Well it's large cast of fine actors, nice cinematography, good special effects work, excellent prosthetic work and fine score go along way. Yet the true success of V lies in its script and story. Why? Because ultimately V is not about spaceships and ray-guns but is about people and their reactions to the extraordinary events around them.』

(One Of The Most Important TV Series Ever Broadcast. Should Be Taught In Schools)
『Los Angeles, 1983: Hundreds of massive flying saucers inexplicably appear in the skies over the major cities of the world. Panic ensues as attempts by the military to intercept them prove fruitless. Before the situation can escalate further out of control, the world is informed by the occupants of the craft that they come in peace and desire a meeting with the head of the United Nations atop the headquarters of that illustrious organisation in New York. During this meeting, which is attended by a battery of the world's press, the world gets it first glimpse of the "visitors": they look and sound like just us - although they're possessed of rather unusual voices - and they are visiting in a spirit of détente and mutual exchange; seeking our aid in their fight against dramatic climatic change which is destroying their planet. In return, they are prepared to share the fruits of their advanced scientific technology. However, before long it becomes apparent to an increasing number of people effectedby the visitor's growing dominance in human society, that all is not what it seems and that their motives are anything but philanthropic...

The brainchild of "Bionic Woman" and "Incredible Hulk" alumnus, Kenneth Johnson, "V" was inspired by Sinclair Lewis' novel It Can't Happen Here. Johnson's initial conception of the idea was originally entitled "Storm Warnings" and was a speculative examination of the possible rise to power of domestic fascism within the United States. However, Johnson was persuaded by a network executive at NBC to introduce an extra-terrestrial element and the result is one of the best mini-series ever broadcast on American television and one of the best pieces of Wellsian science fiction to reach an audience in a populist medium.

Essentially an examination of how a cross section of citizens within a democratic liberal society can be seduced, frightened, coerced, beaten into submission and driven to armed struggle by a totalitarian dictatorship, it remains an absolutely chilling viewing experience. While it may occasionally suffer from the more glitzy action oriented/soap operatic trappings of the eighties mini-series zeitgeist, for the most part it remains a disturbingly astute examination of the loss of liberty and the birth of coordinated resistance to totalitarianism. Watching it again recently, I found that it was not the more grotesque revelations of the visitor's natures and appetites that unsettled me, but their insidious insinuation into every aspect of public and private life (ultimately culminating in a contemporary media-savvy interpretation of the burning of the Reichstag which the Visitors implement and use as a pretext in order to justify their subsequent coup d'état and draconian institution of martial law) and the look of growing dread that begins to haunt the features of Leonardo Cimino's elderly Holocaust survivor as he realises that he is witnessing history repeat itself.

Listening to the commentary on this DVD is a delight and provides all manner of fascinating insights into the series. Kenneth Johnson knows his history and eloquently explains the ingredients and processes that went into making this landmark piece of television. Amongst the tidbits on offer are the revelations that fictitious news anchor Christine Walsh was very deliberately based on Nazi film-maker and propagandist, Leni Riefenstahl, and that Johnson consciously tried to write a goodly portion of the dialogue in Iambic Meter.

"V - The Mini-Series" ends without your traditional Hollywood resolution. Johnson's intention was clearly to examine the idea of the rise of fascism in contemporary society - not to posit a solution or offer his characters an easy way out. The story was however continued and concluded a year later in an inferior sequel called V - The Final Battle (from which Johnson walked during production due to creative differences with the studio) which amped up the soap opera, science fiction and action elements and which featured a rather ridiculous ending which resorted to bad science fiction cliches. Its enjoyable in a cheesy way, but really not a patch on its progenitor. This is the one that you want to watch.

(A Classic)
『This show was an EVENT when it aired some a little over a quarter of a century ago. I great tv mini-series of it's time -- marred by the murder of Ms Dunne and her replacement in the show by Blair Tefkin -- it was, really, the rise of the Nazis in sci-fi for the modern world. I can watch this over and over and still be entertained and forced to think. About to be "reimagined". Well, we shall see, won't we?』
『Aliens pretending to be friendly come to Earth and are received openly. The aliens have masqueraded themselves to look just like humans. When it is discovered that the aliens' planet is dying and that they have come to rape the Earth of its natural resources, the war for Earth begins. An important key to the humans' success is distinguishing the their own from the aliens.』
『In its day,Vwas a monumental event that for one generation remains a pop-culture touchstone.Close Encounters of the Third Kindmay have reassured us that perhaps we have nothing to fear from alien visitors andE.T.introduced us to a benign extraterrestrial who only wanted to go home, but Kenneth Johnson's 1983 television miniseries knew better. Visitors who claim to come in peace are revealed to be nothing but human-looking reptilians on human conversion and conquest. As in the dark days of fascism, some collaborate with the enemy; others form the resistance.

At the time, the epic scale of this production was unprecedented. Those 50 motherships that hover over Earth's major cities anticipateIndependence Dayby more than a decade. The special effects and makeup are still awesome. Less so is the often-hackneyed dialogue. But thanks to their signature roles, the mostly no-star cast, most of whom would be reunited for a sequel and subsequent television series, have ensured themselves standing invitations to sci-fi conventions. Marc Singer is cameraman-turned-freedom-fighter Mike Donovan. Julie Parrish is a medical student-turned-rebel. Richard Herd is the aliens' supreme commander. Jane Bradler is Diana, the ravishing but ruthlessly ambitious alien science officer. Leonardo Cimino lends dignity to his heavy-handed allegorical role as a Holocaust survivor. Look for a pre-Freddy Krueger Robert Englund as one of the aliens.

The DVD is presented for the first time in widescreen format. Supplemental features include an amiable and enlightening director's commentary and a brief "making of" segment.--Donald Liebenson

(I Stuck With It to the Bitter End--SPOILER ALERT!)
『Not much to say that others haven't said already. This began as a great series and ended as a maudlin soap opera. J.D. Salinger described sentimentality as (I'm paraphrasing) loving a character more than God loves him; that seems to sum up much of what went wrong with this series. The creators apparently believe that every little pang of angst their characters feel deserves an episode's (well, many, in fact) worth of development. Turning Starbuck into an angel is an extreme example of this. Clearly, the show's creators love her, but she is a selfish, maladjusted annoying character from the second season to the very end. Struggling through the series, I found myself time and again groaning inwardly, thinking, "Oh no. Starbuck's emoting again."

The ending could not be more implausible. They finally reach a planet that isn't earth (which of course has been destroyed) but which they call earth. They abandon all their technology--just like that--all their medicine, tools, and so on, to live like the natives. They have no apparent skills that will allow them to adopt a stone-age existence, but we are led to believe they do. Furthermore, instead of sticking together to rely on one another and perhaps protect themselves against natives that might or might not be hostile, they scatter. Sorry, folks, but intelligent people would not do this.

I kept watching this series hoping that it would regain some of its original glory. (Also, frankly, I wanted to know how it ended.) When BSG started, the writers/creators maintained the right balance between personal drama and action. We got fast, edgy stories and the moral complexities were there but not exaggerated to histrionic degrees.』

(the end of the best)
『I have waited a bit to comment on the finale of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA...i have to admit i have very strong feelings about this show. it is one of those special things that only come along so often in our lives. now that i have watched the entire series and all the specials, including watching the final disc of season 4.5 three times now, i guess i can pass on my ramblings.
i think this is the best show ever on TV.the writing remained strong , creative, and thought provoking the entire series. the political and metaphysical questions it posed are without a doubt the most adventurous ever put to the small screen. the characters were given traits that made us love and hate them. there was little black or white in the questions this show raised or with its characters. we learned much and questioned much about the human, and or cylon race as we watched. which one did WE come from anyway?
many of the shows and their production values exceed anything we see in the theater these days. the last episode, watch the entire disc as one, is probably the greatest single endeavor ever on tv. i am sorry to see it over, but it ended as it should.
i highly suggest you buy this entire series and watch it from beginning to end. question YOUR humanity while the crew tries to keep theirs. the noble acts and the atrocities...we are capable of it all. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA makes us look closely into the mirror...you can decide if you like what you see. SO SAY WE ALL.

(Best show ever)
『BSG was the best sci-fi drama ever written! The last half of the last season wraps things up nicely.』

(Battlestar Galactica, Season 4.5)
『Great, as usual. This is one of the best and most well written series ever! We thoroughly enjoy each show.』

(Some gaps, but a great and unpredictable ride to the end)
『Spoilers dead ahead!!

Sure, we'd like to know why Hera was so important; if Kara already knew the notes and the jump coordinates, why would she need them from Hera? and if Hera is part Cylon, wouldn't it show up if the archaeologists 150,000 years hence did an exam of her skeleton? If Kara was said to be the harbinger of death, what came of that? How did she just disappear into thin air? Does Bill Adama really want to live out his life in a cabin all alone with Laura's grave nearby? If you had some tech, would you really want to abandon it and live primitively when you don't need to? And why would the primitive tribesmen want to mingle with you at all unless it was to kill you?

You can put the above aside, to a degree, however, and enjoy the most unpredictable, questioning, darkest, most daring series that's been on TV in quite some time. The cast is superb, with James Callis, McDonnell, and Olmos standing out the most. The ship is realistically breaking up and dying of age and damage instead of magically being put back together again as it would have been in Trek or other series. The producers and writers also will not let people just ride off happily into the sunset; the fact is that what we seek isn't always what we had hoped we would find; sometimes things do not work out in the end; and you have to wonder if the human species really deserves to survive at all.

『All will be revealed as the thrilling final episodes of Battlestar Galactica 4.5 land on DVD. From their initial action-packed battles against the Cylons to their desperate attempts to find the fabled 13th colony, Earth, a determined band of human survivors has captivated audiences everywhere with their desperate quest to find a new home for their dwindling numbers. Join them now as the fleet journeys into the furthest reaches of unexplored space and faces a crucial decision that will change all of their lives irrevocably. Presented uninterrupted in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, this epic 4-disc set contains over 10 hours of intense, groundbreaking DVD features, including extended episodes that never aired - a must own addition to every fan’s collection. Relive the anticipation, the action and the excitement of this groundbreaking series that is destined to live on as “one of the best dramas on TV.” (TIME)』
Battlestar Galactica: Season 4.5is the final 10 episodes of the Sci-Fi Channel's highly acclaimed reimagining of the 1970s show, including one of the more stirring and satisfying series finales in television history. Aired in January 2009 after a six-month hiatus, the half-season opens following the devastating revelation about Earth and with four of the final five Cylons revealed, including Tigh (Michael Hogan), Anders (Michael Trucco), Foster (Rekha Sharma), and Tyrol (Aaron Douglas). The uneasy alliance between humans and a pack of rebel Cylons, including Caprica 6 (Tricia Helfer) takes a quizzical turn when the former residents of Earth appear to be Cylon rather than human, and some of the final five begin to recall their past lives on Earth. Kara (Katee Sackhoff) has to call her own human status into question when she discovers a crashed Viper occupied by a corpse wearing her dog tags, and President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Admiral Adama (Edward James Olmos) battle their own despair and struggle to lead an emotionally devastated fleet. Capitalizing on the turmoil, Vice President Tom Zarek (Richard Hatch) and Felix Gaeta (Alessandro Juliani) organize a mutiny aboard theGalacticaand Zarek makes an unbelievable power move against the Quorum of Twelve. But before they can carry out their plans for execution, a commando raid led by Kara and Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber) fighting side by side strikes back against the mutineers. That's the action high point of the half-season, as the show then seems to mark some time with such issues as babies and structural integrities until the three-part finale, which, despite a head-scratcher or two, manages to resolve its issues tidily. That viewers even get a rare glimpse of sunlight is kind of a reward for fans of this outstanding but relentlessly dark series. DVD features include extended versions of three episodes ("A Disquiet Follows My Soul," "Islanded in a Stream of Stars," and "Daybreak'), Ronald D. Moore's podcast commentaries for each episode, deleted scenes, David Eick's video blogs, and five behind-the-scenes featurettes.--David Horiuchi

(Blu(ray) Christmas)
『I love this movie, so does my daughter and now my grandkids. Now on Blu-Ray, it is astonishing!』

(The Best Halloween Film of its Generation)
『I don't think any other movie has come around in the last decade that has impacted our culture like this, especially during Halloween. This film is always a pleasure to watch during the holiday season, the music, songs and animation are just remarkable. I love the characters and all the creepy humerous things that they do.

If you truly want to blow your kids minds with a Halloween movie I always suggest this one, it will leave them wanting more and next thing you know you'll know you're adding it to your DVD collection.』

(Nightmare Before Christmas Blue Ray)
『This movie is not just a cult film but has become a Halloween and Christmas animation classic.
The music soundtrack should be on Broadway; and the stop motion animation is awesome.
Once again Tim Burton tackles one of his favorite subjects as only he can, the magic of Christmas...but this time, it's viewed from a darker fringe. Of course, It looks incredible in Blue Ray; thank you for your creativity and talent Tim Burton!』

(Worth It)
『My husband recieved a gift card for Amazon.com. Neither one of us had ever purchased anything from Amazon before. I found this dvd collection and thought it would be a good fit. It arrived 3 days after I ordered it and I had no problems with the website or the purchase.』

(One of the all-time best Disney movies.)
『The combination of Tim Burton's vision and direction, Danny Elfman's score and the outstanding stop-motion animation plus the enchanting and original story make this one of Disney's all-time best animated stories. It has been my favorite since it was released, but I introduced my 2 and 4 year old grandchildren to the video when I purchased this copy. They are totally mesmerized by the story and the music. The more they see it, the more delighted they become with the characters and their personalities. They've started to be curious about the way the animation is done, as well. As a bonus, it's an all-purpose holiday film which lasts the entire season from Halloween through Christmas!』
『Now digitally restored and remastered with state-of-the-art technology, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is deeper, darker and more brilliant than ever just as Tim Burton originally envisioned it. Can Christmas be saved? Bored with the same old scare-and-scream routine, Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, longs to spread the joy of Christmas. But his merry mission puts Santa in jeopardy and creates a nightmare for good little boys and girls everywhere!
Bonus Features
THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is the first full-length stop-motion animated film ever created.
The movie contains more than 227 animated characters.
Santa Claus' head has more than 50 different working parts, and Jack has more than 400 separate interchangeable heads, each handcrafted with a different facial expression.
The smallest working puppet in the movie is a doll from the "real world" Jack visits that is only one inch long.
Sally is wearing a real miniature dress laid on top of foam latex so that the fabric doesn't move too much on screen.
At the height of production, the animators produced only 70 seconds of finished film per week.
To create Halloweentown's twisted look, the design artists often made their sketches using their nondrawing hand.

Storyboard To Film Comparison』

『For those who never thought Disney would release a film in which Santa Claus is kidnapped and tortured, well, here it is! The full title isTim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, which should give you an idea of the tone of this stop-action animated musical/fantasy/horror/comedy. It is based on characters created by Burton, the former Disney animator best known as the director ofPee-wee's Big Adventure,Beetlejuice,Edward Scissorhands, and the first twoBatmanmovies. His benignly scary-funny sensibility dominates the story of Halloweentown resident Jack Skellington (voice by Danny Elfman, who also wrote the songs), who stumbles on a bizarre and fascinating alternative universe called ... Christmastown! Directed by Henry Selick (who later made the delightfulJames and the Giant Peach), this PG-rated picture has a reassuringly light touch. As Roger Ebert noted in his review, "some of the Halloween creatures might be a tad scary for smaller children, but this is the kind of movie older kids will eat up; it has the kind of offbeat, subversive energy that tells them wonderful things are likely to happen."--Jim Emerson

(Faithful to a fault? Hardly.....)
『Its nice to see a director who is TRYING to get on the ball and follow beloved and long adored comic folklore with almost a religious respect for doctrine. But Z. Snyders adaptation of one of the most legendary is remarkably true to the text until THE END! At one of the greatest moments in comic book history his film-that was so true to a book that most of us who love it were willing to forgive dry acting and flat delivery of Allan Moores lines- completely CHANGED the end, blasted out one of the best points to ever be made in a comic series by making Dr Manhattan the cause of the earths cities destruction!!! Its no wonder Allan Moore didnt want his name attached to this project. There are so many things wrong with this change and so many questions it raises, especially since Americas enemies believed Dr Manhattan an American trick- there by negating the whole united front perspective. Ugh it was like eating the greatest meal of your life and then finding a cockroach in the last bite. If anything it will hopefully show Hollywood, as Iron Man 1 has, that the CLOSER u make these films to the books, the better they are. Good movie but the ultimate insult to real hardcore fans. So can the whole best adaptation reviews please.』

(Perfect Adaptation)
『Until March 6, 2009, it had been almost ten years since a good movie was last released.

I say 'good' movie, not 'movie I liked,' because I've seen a few movies I liked in the spaces between 2000 and 2008. The last 'good' movie that was released was Mary Harron's adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' "American Psycho," a movie that should have won an Oscar for best directing. But after that, I've been hard-pressed to see a movie that was truly 'good.' Post-9/11 movies seemed to tone down on story and crank up unnecessary special effects. Even the movies that won Oscars in the post-9/11 years weren't very 'good,' in the sense that they weren't memorable. I'll give you an example of a 'good' movie: The Godfather. The Godfather, whether you like it or not, is a good movie. There is no question that a high amount of care and love was put into that movie, and even if someone found it boring, or hated it, it is still a good movie, and nothing can change that. Regardless of what people may think, there is a very fine line between fact and opinion-- it is an opinion to dislike a film like The Godfather, but it is stone cold fact that The Godfather is a good movie, regardless of opinion. This brings me to the first good movie I've seen in the post-9/11 years...

Zack Snyder, best known for his adaptation of Frank Miller's "300," started directing late in life with his remake of George A. Romero's 'Dawn of the Dead,' now the Dawn of the Dead remake might not have been true to its source material, it may not have been a 'good' movie, but I enjoyed it, even more so than 300. But things started heating up in 2006, when Warner Bros announced a big-screen adaptation of Alan Moore's "Watchmen," a graphic novel that had been in the process of being made into a movie since 1988. The project went through several writers and directors, most noticeably writer Sam Hamm of 1989's "Batman" and director Terry Gilliam, who directed the movie 'Brazil.' Over the years the project was deemed 'unfilmable' by various directors, who all found themselves quitting the project. But finally, after a long uphill battle of writing and roundtable discussions, Zack Snyder was brought on board to do a rewrite of the script and direct the project. It was finished in 2007, but the film wasn't released until 2009, after a long lawsuit between Fox and Warner Bros, over who would get the distribution rights to the film. Thankfully, Warner Bros won the dispute, and Fox was cast back into the darkness, cut off from the Watchmen Franchise.

I saw the movie the day it opened, March 6, 2009. I'd read the graphic novel prior to seeing the movie, which made me a bit skeptic at the idea of adapting a project so massive and intricate, but after seeing the theatrical cut, I was blown away by the simple, yet complex film which told the story of the Watchmen in under three hours. It was, without question, one of the best book-to-movie adaptations I'd ever seen, and everything in the movie was done right (a lot of people dispute the slight ending change, but seriously-- a giant squid?) from start to finish. I've only seen maybe, one, other movie that was as true to its source material as Watchmen, it's called "The Godfather." All this I got from just the theatrical cut alone, which I saw in cinemas, twice. It had been ten years since I went to see a movie more than once in theaters, I enjoyed it that much. Since then a director's cut was released, but I did not buy it, because it was soon after announced that an 'ultimate cut' would be released, complete with the comic-within-the-comic as a cartoon, "The Tales Of The Black Freighter," sown back into it, making the film about three and a half hours long, the 'true,' version of Watchmen. Recently I ordered it, and am awaiting its delivery to my home. Watchmen is a shining example of both excellent writing and outstanding film-making. It's action-packed, thought-provoking, it has colorful characters and is set in a world of extraordinary circumstances. It's a good movie.

I recently ordered and received a copy of The Ultimate Cut of Zack Snyder's "Watchmen." Needless to say, it's fantastic. It weaves together the Director's Cut of the movie with the animated segments called 'The Tales of the Black Freighter,' completing the Watchmen experience, making it a nearly literal adaptation of Alan Moore's wonderful graphic novel. Whereas the theatrical cut gave us an abridged look at the Watchmen and their lives, the Director's cut expanded upon that, and The Ultimate Cut expands even further, with the movie-in-movie cartoon, which symbolizes the journey that the characters go through individually and the struggles they endure.

In reference to the title of this review, the film is a perfect adaptation; it uses anachronisms skillfully in order to slim down the overall weight of the book and like any adaptation, it adds certain elements that are either not in the source material, or are merely hinted at in said source material. The most noticeable in this movie would be the scene where, and yes, we're talking spoilers, where Doctor Manhattan kills Rorschach and Nite Owl sees it happen, which throws him into a fit of rage, making him beat up Adrian Veidt, who concocted the whole scheme to blow up several cities full of innocent people around the world in order to prevent nuclear war. But even if a Watchmen fan didn't like these little anachronisms, they were indeed necessary to the film's development, especially for modern audiences, who watch movies like "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," which have little to no plot or engaging material whatsoever. But I digress. As said, it's a perfect adaptation.

One thing you should know is, and a lot of people have complained about this-- is the ending is tweaked significantly. Allow me to explain. In the book, Ozymandias' grand master scheme was to send a genetically engineered squid into Manhattan to kill people in a giant explosion, thus uniting the world against a common enemy-- an 'alien' threat, but of course it wasn't really an alien, it was something Ozzy had created, but he intended for everyone to believe it was an extraterrestrial. In the movie it's a far more believable plot device: Adrian frames Doctor Manhattan and unites the world against him in order to prevent nuclear holocaust. The book and movie both end the same way, however, with Rorschach's journal in the newsroom of The New Frontiersman, where Seymour (maybe) picks it up and publishes it for all the world to see, possibly dooming humanity once more. In conclusion, Watchmen is one of the best movies I've ever seen, it has everything you could want in a movie, action, violence, romance, sex, good music and it's incredibly thought-provoking. If you've never heard of Watchmen, I suggest going to your local comic-book store and picking up a copy, then seeing The Ultimate Cut.

It's an experience you'll never forget.』

(A masterpiece)
『When the long-awaited adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' comic book masterpiece Watchmen was released, it proved to be, despite its flaws, undoubtedly the best adaptation that a fan of the comic could have ever hoped for. Those who found it boring, overlong, or just simply didn't "get it" need not apply here for this Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut edition, which pushes Zack Snyder's adaptation to a 3 and a half hour plus epic. Fully incorporating the animated Tales of the Black Freighter (intercut into segments) as well as deleted scenes from the first DVD and Blu-Ray releases of the film, Watchmen: The Ultimate Edition is a masterpiece of comic book to film adaptations that will not disappoint those who have long cherished the comic. The special features, which include commentary tracks from Snyder and Gibbons, as well as the brilliant Under the Hood segment, the various webisodes, and the Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic, are worthwhile enough (though one may wish that more would and could have been included features wise), and as for the film itself, the same flaws do remain: including the various alterations in the story (such as Rorschach's origin and the ending), and the fact that the film just isn't for everyone or those expecting to see guys in tights fighting the good fight. Despite its flaws though, the Watchmen film remains a labor of love that does Moore and Gibbons' masterwork, and now that it's in its complete form, is more than worth your time.』

(The greatest honor any film could ever recieve.)

I have already written a review on the original release of `Watchmen' on DVD. However, for you first time readers I have posted the original review of the movie along with my review of the Ultimate collection.

The comic book has now officially become the mainstream in the world of film. The major companies try to get their hands on every franchise they possibly can. The real question is once there is a movie in play how will translate to the big screen and who is the fan base? Well, we all have seen what `The Dark Knight' and `Spider-Man' have done. Still, what about the no so main stream novels such as `300'? There are directors out there that don't want to make a movie in their own vision, but yet they wish to bring the book to the screen word for word, page for page. That is the film 'Watchmen'.

'Watchmen' may be the biggest cult fan based comic book of all time. Written in an alternate reality in the 1980s, the Cold War is very much alive and all of Earth is extremely concerned about nuclear war. The heroes in this world are not ones special abilities or powers, and they are not liked by the people. Though, the costumed crusaders prevail to keep the people in line and keep order in the world. Suddenly one of them is brutally murdered and they are now the ones who fear extinction.

I made it my business to make sure I read the graphic novel before I went to see this film and it was a wise choice. This movie no doubt tried to remain as faithful to the comic as possible. The dialogue was melancholy, they characters were well cast and while there were not as many effects as a major comic book blockbuster it was still put together in a very artsy package. Though, this movie is truly not for the mainstream movie goers. Watchmen was definitely created with the true comic book fan in mind. The director Zack Snyder like on his previous work with `300' wanted to make a movie that was just as authentic as the pages it was first concocted upon. Those who read this story would definitely enjoy it even though it is a very slow movie dragged out story. There are a few major things that are changed for cinematic purposes, but after reading this story I believe that the changes made really made the story more believable and less confusing. The changing of the costumes was a positive thing because some of those characters really looked like pimped out hood ornaments in print. The actors chosen were not well known which a great thing is always. They each filled their roles perfectly and it really made me feel like the comic book was actually coming to life before my eyes. I believe that if you read the book definitely pick the movie up. If you are an innovative person who wants to see something different then you might enjoy it as well. But, I think if you are looking for the typical action super-hero flick let this one pass you by, you might not understand it. Alan Moore may have officially removed himself from any film that his work was to become, but I believe he needs to see this one, because it really has done him justice. Watchmen came out at the right time because Zack Snyder got it right.

Apparently I was not on target when I originally wrote my review, because now we have a 5 DVD Watchmen extravaganza. I have to say for one movie on its' own I have never seen such a package. This edition has everything that was made in honor of this film even dating before the movie itself was officially released in theaters! Before the movie came out where two animated films made for DVD release. The animated creation of `Tales of The Black Freighter', which is an essential piece to the Watchmen story. The special feature on that DVD included `Tales From Under the Hood'. In the graphic novel itself you see excerpts of that book and for DVD it is reinvented to be a television documentary complete with effects that make it look aged and its own advertisements. The other DVD release was `Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic'. This was the graphic novel page for page narrated like a book on tape making the original comic book art look as if it was jumping right off the page. Thanks to this new Ultimate collectors edition these two projects are woven in to the film to make it more true to the novel and really give this film the honor and respect it deserves. Other features include the official video journals and incredible documentaries and commentary not to mention a digital copy of the original theatrical release. How can you possibly pass up purchasing this amazing DVD package? This package has it all...I am serious there is nothing missing from this film now! If you loved this movie you are going to love it even more when you officially have the complete story.

(Smart buy for the ultimate Star Trek fan.)
『This product is a must have for all Star Trek fans that want the ultimate experience in home entertainment.』

(Perfect gift for the Trekkie in your life!)
『I bought this for my partner as a birthday present. He has thoroughly enjoyed this, and I recommend to anyone that has a Trekkie or sci-fi person in their life.』

(Generations disc defective)
『The picture and sound are great in this set except for the Generations movie. This disc was defective. The contrast and color are bad. I emailed Paramount, asking about an exchange a couple of weeks ago, but got no reply. I have no way of knowing whether all the Generations discs have this problem, but I was not pleased with mine (although the other movies are great) and I am even less pleased with the lack of response from Paramount.』

(Good deal if you don't already own them.)
『Theatrical version only. No director's cuts available in this box set. HD quality good, but nothing spectacular about the conversion. Lots of extras for each movie, including deleted scenes and an alternate ending for Insurrection. Worth buying if you don't already own these on DVD or are just collecting for the sake of completeness.』

(A must-have for TNG fans)
『A must-have for TNG fans. PQ of the movies is decent, and while the supplementals from the movies aren't in HD they are still wonderful if you haven't seen them. The fifth disc is a supplemental disc and it is in HD.

Generations:
PQ: 2
Movie: 2
Comments: I'm not a fan of Kirk, and while Data is my favorite character I hate when he uses the emotion chip, he acted like such a fool in this movie. This movie was quite boring.

First Contact:
PQ: 4
Movie: 5
Comments: The best movie in this set and in my opinion the best PQ. The close-up shot of Data in his interrogation by the Borg Queen was amazing.

Insurrection:
PQ: 3.5
Movie: 3
Comments: Decent PQ and decent movie, nothing special.

Nemesis:
PQ: 3
Movie: 4
Comments: I highly disagree with Martin Liebman's score for this movie's PQ, this movie is filled with a lot of grain, almost made me vomit. If this is what film is supposed to look like then I really hate film. The movie is decent.』
