(MST3K Set with 2 Joel and 2 Mike, Plus a Tom Servo Figurine)
『In this "Limited Edition" set, there are two movies hosted by Joel and two from Mike Nelson, so if you're strictly a Joel or Mike fan, check this out.

#105 - "The Corpse Vanishes." Joel Hodgson hosts this cheap and cheesy movie with Bela Lugosi. After making "Dracula," lugosi sadly declined into silly movies like this one. Before BOTOX, you had to kill young Brides to make a youth serum for vain women, like Lugosi's wife (why are only young Women always killed??) Joel and the Bots do a decent job of riffing this silly movie about a mad scientist, youthful wife and killer orchids.

#501 - "Warrior of the Lost World" - Joel hosts this movie about a dusty hero with a talking motorcycle and evil dictator. There are more explosions than you can count, with some even in slow-motion. Dummies, are thrown off buildings in an attempt to make them look like the bad humans. Stars Robert Ginty and Donald Pleasance.

#521 - "Santa Claus" - Mike Nelson and the Bots keep it alive with this dreadful movie made in Mexico in 1959. The beginning is a bunch of kids singing the longest song ever recorded in any movie...ever made. Add in the devil, Merlin the magician and Santa being in Space instead of the North Pole. The dubbing into English is also laughable.

#701 - "Night of the Blood Beast" - Mike Nelson and the Bots host this Roger Corman movie that stars Ed Nelson. The short is "Once Upon a Honeymoon." The guys always loved to riff Corman and shorts from the 50's. They do a good job on both. Don't pay too much attention to the plot about an Astronaut who is a breeder for aliens. This is NOT the one with Sigourney Weaver. That's what makes it Hilarious.

The icing on the cake is that you get your own little Tom Servo in this Limited Edition set. I must have him to keep my Crow T Robot company!

Mystery Science Theater 3000: 20th Anniversary Edition [Limited Edition]

(Another great set with a Tom Servo figure - Shout Factory continues to impress)
『Shout Factory delivers us another tremendous volume of MST3K experiments. Not only do we get 5 (that's right FIVE) episodes (sort of) we also get a Tom Servo figure. Looking at this set ...

MST3K EPISODE 105 THE CORPSE VANISHES W/ ANOTHER CHAPTER FROM THE COMMANDO CODY SERIAL
Bela Lugosi stars in this low budget (aka cheap) effort capturing young females with a special perfume and using the females to make his wife beautiful&young again. Believe it or not the serial is more entertaining - as serials tended to be non stop action - Cody continues to fight evils from the moon. - This marks the 3rd set in a row with a Season 1 episode. Some fans really dislike these episodes, but if you look at why it is being done, it actually makes sense. First off, sooner or later there will be a lack of easy to license Joel titles - having Season 1 titles extends the 2 Joel and 2 Mike variety for those that like the combination of both hosts in their volumes. 2nd, this is a public domain episode and super easy to get onto DVD via MST3K. So why not ? Watching season 1 allows us to see how the show started and grow...

MST3K EPISODE 501 - WARRIOR OF THE LOST WORLD - This is a popular episode - the premier episode from the 5th season. The recently deceased late great Robert Ginty (the paperchase guy) rides around on an annoying motorbike looking for trouble or saving humanity. This has Megaweapon which became a cult hero of sorts&was the highlight of the movie. This is basically a Mad Max rip-off in a post apocalyptic world. Donald Pleasence from many a movie is the villian. A very entertaining episode - not just the movie, but the segments with Joel as the paperchase guy and the riffs are great as well..

MST3K EPISODE 521 - SANTA CLAUS - at long last this episode finally comes on a set..Jose Luis Moreno as Santa Claus as he fights the Devil ( Pitch) An extremely memorable episode with Santa fighting Pitch and all sorts of weird characters. This was a K Gordon Murray distribution (he brought in all sorts of Mexican horror and scifi to USA theaters)
A great segment has Kevin Murphy as Santa fighting Pitch (Paul Chaplin) and it is hilarious and there are a few songs to enjoy..watch it at Christmas or anytime you will laugh your arse off

MST3K EPISODE 701&TURKEY DAY SPECIAL - NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST WITH THE SHORT ONCE UPON A HONEYMOON
Another hugely requested episode. And you get BOTH VERSIONS of this movie, with the Season 7 segments and the Turkey Day segments...so if you count the 2 version PLUS the other 3 in this set you get your 5 episode set...
This is a Roger and Gene Corman schlocker with a man is gets impregnated (??) by the Blood Beast (another ridiculous Corman creature. Michael Emmet is the host for the monster (he was Cal in the Giant Leeches)and the cast is pretty much the usual Corman characters...
And yes once again you get both versions of the movie with both Season 7 and Turkey Segments included ! How good is that. Of course the short is very entertaining as well..

Here are the Extras:
New interview with "Warrior of the Lost World" director David Worth (he was also at an MST convention to talk about this episode as well)
Santa Claus Conquers the Devil: A 50-Year Retrospective
Santa Claus original radio spot
Santa Claus still gallery
Teaser trailer for "Wonder World of K. Gordon Murray in Colorscope"
Night of the Blood Beast Turkey Day host segments (not correct as you get the entire episode)
Turkey Day `95 bumpers
Original theatrical trailers
Four exclusive MST3K lobby cards by artist Steve Vance
Also, in a limited-edition version there's a Tom Servo figurine (yes a long awaited Tom Servo figure !!! And its cute !! )

Shout has done nothing but bring excitement back into the sets..the high anticipation, the announcement of the sets&what they come with ...
December 1st is the release date and I can hardly wait...and hopefully Volume 17 will be around the corner :) !!

Keep up the great work Shout Factory !』

(Four more strong episodes of MST3K, seasons 1, 5, and 7)
『This set features two episodes hosted by show creator Joel Hodgson and two hosted by series head writer Mike Nelson. All are from the Comedy Central era of the show.

105- THE CORPSE VANISHES with short: COMMANDO CODY PT 3

This 1942 black and white thriller features Bela Lugosi as, surprise, a mad scientist who kills young women for glandular fluid that he uses to keep his own aging wife young and alive. He has two evil assistants, again surprise, a malevolent dwarf and a huge oaf. Commando Cody (Radar Men From The Moon) Part 3 is also riffed by the crew of the SOL. Tom Servo's head explodes for the first of many times in one of the host segments. Commando Cody and Bela Lugosi in the same episode equals much fun.

501- WARRIOR OF THE LOST WORLD

A color film from 1983 by David Worth and starring Robert Ginty ("The Paper Chase Guy"), Persis Khambatta and Donald Pleasance. This "High Plains Drifter" knock-off with motorcycles and post-apocalyptic geeks is a laugh riot from beginning to end. The talking motorcycle, slinky Nastasia (Khambatta) evil dictator Prossor (Donald Pleasance), and Megaweapon are must-see entertainment. The running gag regarding the refusal to "remember" the starring actor's name is hilarious. Tom Servo riffing on dozens of people in under one minute is legendary. A really strong episode.

521- SANTA CLAUS

This 1959 color film is a Mexican import courtesy of K. Gordon Murray. It is bizarre in the extreme. Santa lives on a cloud in outer space with children from all over the Earth as his helpers. The opening of the film showing the various cultures of the children is out-dated, weird, possibly offensive and achingly funny. The film only gets stranger from there as Santa has to go to Earth to deliver toys using all manner of wizardry conjured up by his assistant, the wizard Merlin. The host segment featuring Mike and the 'Bots as the rock band "Santa Klaws" is worth the price of admission all by itself.

701- NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST with short: ONCE UPON A HONEYMOON

A black-and-white Roger Corman film made in 1958 is about an astronaut who returns to Earth seemingly dead at first, but he later turns out to be alive and pregnant with alien young! If the premise of the film isn't funny enough, MST3K certainly makes it so. Filmed in Bronson Canyon like many other fun films (e.g., Robot Monster, It Conquered The World), it also features re-used props from other Corman films. This is one of only seven episodes in MST3K season seven and features the beginnings of the Pearl Forrester character in Deep 13 after the departure of Frank Conniff from the show. Pretty much any Roger Corman film used on MST3K made for a good episode of the show and this one is no exception.

(Star Trek Blu-ray with the "Limited" Edition metal statue thingy)
『Ok, here's the deal. Amazon and/ or the manufacturer needed to remedy this issue over it's "Limited" Edition status. They need to be sending out something that specifies which number of statue each person on here got. That would be a fairly simple fix to this own mess. BUT, after they do this people need to come back here and give the number which they received so that we all know we got a different number and that there were only 5,000. It would have never been necessary if people didn't already have a legitimate reason to doubt the validity of the claim that only 5,000 were sold. At first when they popped back up on here AFTER they sold out I thought that maybe they had told people they sold out because possibly the pre orders reached sell out status and then once they filled those they threw the last of them up here. I also figured that once they threw the last of them up here they'd be sold out in a matter of hours, if not a matter of minutes. NOTE TO AMAZON: FIX THIS ISSUE AND FIX IT QUICK

The statue is pretty sweet, and the movie looks great. BUt those are things people have already said. I'd amend my review to 5 stars if they'd just come up with a way for people to prove which one they've got especially since they should only have to do it for 5,000 people supposedly. I mean c'mon Amazon, you fill more than 5,000 orders in a day so you should be able to do this for 5,000 people who shelled out a c-note for this headache.』

(Limited to 5000 and yet it's still available 6 days after it first went on sale??? Not numbered either? Hmm...)
『Amazon.com, are you telling me that 6 days after this collectible replica and blu-ray set went on sale, there still isn't 5000 people out there (especially Trekers) that haven't bought all these up yet? You're kidding me right?? I bought 2 of these initially. I'm seeing others here who have bought more than one and yet not all 5000 have been scooped up yet? I could understand it if this collector's set costs several hundred dollars but it's under $100. I was kind of surprised that all 5000 sets weren't gone by the end of the first day they went on sale. Surely they'd be gone by the end of the next day... No. The third day... NO. The forth day..??? NO! etc...

I also find it very convenient for Amazon.com that this set is limited to 5000 (to encourage collectors and fans to scoop it up quick), yet there is absolutely no number inside the box to tell me or anyone else who bought it, which of the 5000 boxes any of us has received. Yet the recently released Wizard of Oz "LIMITED" Ultimate Collector's Set states on the front of every box which numbered box you purchased out of something like 237,000 boxes. 5000 is much fewer than 237,000 and you'd think the people producing the Star Trek set would want to display just how exclusive this set was by numbering each of them. I know I was hoping to be able to display that I had purchased "some number" of only 5000.

Now I'm stuck wondering just how many "sets of 5000" might have been produced? Much harder to track and prove there were only 5000 without a number stamped on all of them.

I would love to see someone out there find some way to make Amazon.com prove that only 5000 of these sets were ever available and sold. I'm having a very hard time believing it was only 5000.

To be fair about the set itself, I have to say I love the replica. My wife was skeptical when I told her about it (when I placed my order) but when she saw it she was actually very surprised and said it was a beautiful piece. She even suggested that we put it on our coffee table. I wasn't expecting that from her. We thought they did a really good job on the movie as well.

Thanks for listening,
Larry B

(Amazon exclusive Enterprise replica is a wonderful purchase!)
『This unboxing video says it all: [...]

Immediately on hearing about Amazon's exclusive version fo the Star Trek bluray release, I clicked over and ensured my pre-order. Then it was just waiting in antici--

--pation! It finally arrived, and it was worth the wait. The model is high quality and has a wonderful weight to it. I don't typically splurge on higher-cost collectibles such as this, but with its limited run, and great quality, I'm glad I did. Oh and the Bluray is also a great piece of work. The special features were very informative and entertaining, especially as they touched on the issues with 're-envisioning' the Star Trek universe, from many creative perspectives.

This was a fun little video to render! Thank you JJ for inventing the Abrams flare ;)』

(Disappointing, could have been MUCH better)
『This film was interesting only from a historical perspective. It lacks depth and substance, and tries to make up for a lousy plot and shallow undeveloped characters with flashy, useless special effects that only detract, bore and annoy.

SPOILER PLOT. We see how the paths of Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Scotty, Chekov and Sulu intersected, beginning from Kirk's birth. This timeline is different from that of the regular, known Trek universe. A Romulan from the future has traveled back in time to avenge the blowing up the planet Romulus, which apparently the elder Spock promised to avert but wasn't able to. Now Angry Romulan wants to kill major players in Starfleet, as well as blow up Spock's native planet Vulcan, in the hope that Spock will suffer as Mr. Angry did (in the future). Angry does, in fact, manage to kill Kirk's father on a ship; Kirk's about-to-give-birth mother and the rest of the crew escape while Kirk's dad dies defending them.

A now adult young Kirk joins Starfleet under unusual circumstances. Kirk and his cohorts prevent Angry Romulan from doing any more damage, thanks to the wisdom of Elder Spock, who shows up in this timeline to advise Kirk and his own younger self. Elder Spock gives Scotty the formula about life-saving technology Scotty will develop in the future -- or DID develop in Elder Spock's future timeline. (You still with me?) In this film, the now new timeline is not repaired. Kirk's father still died defending his pregnant wife and crew, young Spock and Kirk's friendship gets off to a bumpy start, and more. However, at least there will be no more damage from Mr. Angry.

CHARACTERIZATION. New Scotty sounds just like the old one (but we don't learn anything about him). Kirk does a pretty good job as a younger version of Shatner. And Spock is decent, if lacking in the essence of what it means to be Vulcan. Uhura is competent and spunky; too bad the original Uhura was never given this many professional credentials and tasks that this younger version was given. (I appreciate the efforts to overcome the sexism of the original, first Star Trek.) However, all this cannot rescue this film. (By the way, what was Uhura doing French kissing Spock -- and Spock kissing her back? It didn't fit in anyplace, and certainly did not follow the original.)

DOWNSIDES. This film is more of a novelty and the glimmering of an undeveloped, good idea. It lacks the spiritual dimension, psychological sophistication and developed relationships between the characters of Star Trek's best films and TV episodes. Elder Spock telling younger Spock to "follow your feelings" doesn't constitute enough of a worthwhile message to redeem this flick, although it's always nice to see Leonard Nimoy. The soundtrack is relentless, noisy and distracting, and overshadows the dialogue at times. The visuals are simply ugly and busy, looking as though too many hand-held cameras are working overtime. I got dizzy watching all this tiring pointless activity, and had my finger poised on the fast-forward button. And due to the excessive and unnecessary action, this film needed a good editing; about 20 to 25 minutes less would have made it much better.

CONCLUSION. What I loved most about Star Trek's finest TV and movies were its messages, acting, and character development. This film just didn't do it for me. Die-hard fans may like and even love this flick. But for my taste, the best in Star Trek -- where there are socially redeeming messages, great characters, humor and depth as well as action -- is still Voyager, all seven seasons on TV.

(screen accurate hogwash)
『I loved the movie...I like the model. But, Amazon and QMx are GUILTY of deceptive advertising. I am still thinking about returning this. The Advertisement and the very certificate itself says that the model is "screen-accurate" meaning, every detail of the ship you see on the movie is found in the model. The model is supposedly made from the movies CGI reference. But, this is outright false. Yes, it is a "representation" of the movie's enterprise, but it is NOT screen accurate. I would guess its details are only about 70% of the detail of the movie/CGI version--AT BEST. Take one look at the movie and the enterprise shuttle bay doors--lots of details. Also, lots of details on the Nacelles. This model, the shuttle bay door is smooth, the nacelles are missing several of the distinctive lines...i could go on and on.

It is VERY sturdy and well constructed, but it is not screen accurate.

I am still giving it four stars because of its craftmanship and construction...』

(REALLY GREAT SI-FI COMEDY)
『THIS IS A GREAT COMEDY,I HAVE IT ON DVD,BUT WHEN IT CAME OUT ON BLU RAY I REALLY HAD TO HAVE IT!!!』

(Love Mel Brooks? Love Blu-Ray? Buy this.)
『One of my all time favorite movies and of course a classic Mel Brooks film. I own this on DVD, but definitely wanted it on Blu-Ray as well. For a movie of its age, it looks great on Blu-Ray. I had fun watching it all over again in high-def! The sound is truly better. That's probably the biggest improvement. It does have extra features too, which is always nice, although my main concern is the film itself.

Overall a great buy for any Mel Brooks fan!』

(I would have rated movie higher, but........)
『I love a good majority of Mel Brooks movies, but what brings this movie down is the fact that John Candy stars in it. I don't know what there is about him, but I find him to be very annoying, and about as funny as a rubber crutch! I don't have a movie in my collection with John Candy in it. I think he was a very over rated comedian/actor. Rick Moranis shines through on this one. Supporting cast is up there as well. Bill Pullman proves to me that he can do different roles, playing a somewhat comedian role on Spaceballs. Somewhat humorous role in Lake Placid, and a serious role as president in Independence Day.

This is a great spoof off Star Wars. Mel Brooks has put out some real good movies in the past, and he always seems to get the right people to play the right parts. I remember seeing 2 of his great movies when I was in the service - Young Frankenstien, and Blazing Saddles. Blazing Saddles has been butchered when it was shown on network television with all the editing, so owning a copy of this classic is on my to do list. Spaceballs seems to be ok on network television, because it doesn't have the racial overtone that Blazing Saddles does. I recommend most of Mel Brooks movies. Even though I don't care for John Candy, I think Mel Brooks did well by putting him in this movie.』

(An 80's classic comedy on Blu-Ray!)

In a Galaxy not so far away, a ruthless race of beings called Spaceballs lead by the dreaded runt Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) and moronic president Scroobe (Mel Brooks) have came up with a diabolical plan to take all the air away from their neighboring planet Druidia. A runaway princess named Vespa (Daphne Zungia) with sassy robot maid Dot Matrix (Voice by Joan Rivers) is rescued by a stubborn but lovable space trucker named Lonestarr (Bill Pullman) with half-man half-dog alien companion Barf (John Candy) as they all join forces to learn the ways of the magical and mysterious Schwartz power from master Yogurt (Mel Brooks) and stop Dark Helmet's plans.

Excellent Sci-fi satire from co-writer, producer and director including actor Mel Brooks is one of the coolest and best comedies i've ever seen. I love how he makes fun of the Sci-fi genre with movies like "Star Wars", "Alien", "Planet of the Apes", "Star Trek", and other sci-fi movies of the time. The film co-stars Dick Van Patten as King Roland, George Wyner as Colnel Sanders, Michael Winslow and the voice of Dom Deluise as Pizza The Hutt even with a cameo by John Hurt. It's a great 80's cult favorite that provides the best laughs of the decade thanks to the magic of Mel Brooks and is always pure comedy gold.

This 2-Disc Blu-Ray offers the movie in beautiful high definition that it's not even funny even with quality sound that would make you go into luduicrous speed including a standard definition DVD of the movie. The extras including BD-exclusive which is "Watch the Movie in Luduicrous Speed", Trailers, Audio Commentaries, Film Flubs, Storyboard comparisons, interviews, Spaceballs: The Documentary, a memorial featurette on John Candy, behind-the-scenes footage and of course still galleries.』

(SPACEBALLS THE BLURAY)
『Spaceballs is one of my all time favorite films and I eagerly awaited it's bluray release and even put in my preorder months in advance. Now that the bluray is here it is still one of my all time favorite films but i must admit the transfer is not demo material.

The transfer itself is solid and without any unnecessary tampering (digital noise reduction, edge enhancement, etc) and it is the best this film will probably ever look on home video however the film itself will never wow anyone with detail.

On the audio side we get a 5.1ch track that does it's job as well as the source material allows... just like the video it's not demo material but it's still a solid track. Also included is the original dolby stereo track along with a rather large collection of languages (and subtitles as well)

The bonus features are the same as the previous DVD edition, I haven't really dug into all of them but in Fox bluray tradition features that need a play all option (in this case the film flubs) don't get that much needed option.

The included DVD is the older flipper disc with the 4:3 pan&scan on one side and the non-anamorphic 1.85:1 version on the other.』

(LOST IS RIGHT!)
『Wow, the what an awful let down! Did the screenwriter ever see the t.v. show? Does will Farrell have to wreck so many movies with the same schtick? Forget this junk, dont let the kids see it but, do rent or buy the DVD of the original 2 seasons and find what this movie lost.』

(Horrible! Absolutly horrible! Worst movie ever!)
『Horrible, stupid, its Will Ferril's best yet! This was the DUMBEST movie we have EVER seen(even worse than Freedom State)!!! Don't waste your money! Will Ferril is an amazingly stupid actor. If you have a brain the size of a walnut you will enjoy this movie!(If your brain is any bigger please do not watch, it will destroy your brain cells)My IQ is now 60...it used to be 125.』

(The WORST movie I have ever seen!)
『This was the worst movie I have ever watched. I did not even finish watching it because it was so bad. If I could have given this movie 0 (or less) stars I would. There is so much crude, stupid so called "humor" that was not even funny and was very offensive. The plot was dumb and it did not even follow the original series at all. I would not recommend this movie to anyone.』

(This is a Will Ferrell movie!)
『I'd like to give this movie 3 1/2 stars. I can't believe all the 1 star reviews. I watched this with my two teenagers and we found plenty to laugh at in this movie. No one should have expected a serious action/adventure move with a few laughs. This is a Will Ferrell movie! It's goofy and kind of rauncy, but it is funny. Someone complained the T Rex was inconsistent. Come on people, loosen up! The T Rex understood English in the first scene it was in. How hard do you want to think about this???!? I agree it's not for small kids, but nowadays PG 13 seems to be aimed at about 16 and up. If you're going to let kids watch a movie you pretty much have to do some research.』

(Shame on the Krofft brothers)
『I was a childhood fan of the original series back in the 70s. It was campy, fun and an innocent tv show for kids. This movie made a mockery of the series. It seems like every "TV-Based" movie lately has modern day humor such as poop, fart, urine and sex jokes. The Land of the Lost movie was no exception. I don't ever remember Will talking Rick Marshall into kissing Chaka or Will's mouth next to Chaka's groin while they sleep.

And the movie industry is wondering WHY most of the movie theater seats are empty these days. It's constant sex humor. It's just not funny.

They should've kept it retro and keeping the 3 characters a family just like the series. But no! They have to have Rick and Holly fall in love at the end JUST LIKE A MILLION OTHER MOVIES!

Shame on Sid&Marty Krofft for allowing this movie to be made this way. I know their names were stamped on it as producers but they sold themselves out to the movie studio because I'm sure the studio pressured them to make the move this way.

『Comedic genius Will Ferrell stars as has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall, who gets more than he bargained for when his expedition takes a wrong turn into the Land of the Lost. Now, Marshall, his crack-smart research assistant Holly (Anna Friel) and a redneck survivalist named Will (Danny McBride), have no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in a world full of marauding dinosaurs, fantastic creatures and laugh-out-loud comedy!』
『How to make a big-screen version of Sid and Marty Krofft's Seventies TV show? In this case, place the thing in the meaty hands of Will Ferrell and give the special effects a big upgrade. If you grew up with the show, you will recall that Marshall, Will, and Holly fall through a time warp into a land where dinosaurs roam and all kind of weird things grow. In this version, Ferrell plays a disgraced scientist, Anna Friel a brainy postgraduate, and Danny McBride (Pineapple Express) the sleazy owner of a desert tourist trap that happens to be home to the time portal. This begins to suggest how this movie wants to have it both ways: keep some of the original's kid appeal, but raunch it up just enough for fans of Judd Apatow's movies. The result is that nothing really works very well. There's no momentum to the plot, the locations are monotonous, and Ferrell and McBride are desperate in their attempts to generate something out of nothing. Granted, they succeed a few times--these guys are too funny to whiff completely--but the strain is visible. And although the effects, are competent, the movie can't even get its fantasy rules straight (why is the T. Rex sometimes ferocious and sometimes indifferent?). Fans of the show will enjoy hearing the cheesy theme song worked in (Ferrell performs a zonked version) and seeing how the movie updates the menacing Sleestaks. But on a basic level Land of the Lost has no idea what it's doing, or what it means to do. --Robert Horton

(Horrible condition :/)
『I love, love, LOVE Stargate SG-1, and when I saw the amazing reduced price I knew I just had to purchase this boxed set.

It was reduced for a reason.

My first set had numerous DVD's that were unplayable/skipped/and even froze my entire television. In frustration, I sent that box set back and asked for a replacement. I started where I had left off and the first DVD I tried caused the same problem. I find it pretty unbelievable that Amazon continues to stock/sell an item that's so obviously defective. A shame, too. I really would have loved to own this. Time to send my "replacement" back.』

(The Collection is Great, the Packaging Horrible!)
『I bought this collection after my brother (who lives 1000 miles away) raved about it. Love it. It is so wonderful to be able to go on a marathon and watch all the episodes in a row over a month.

The packaging is terrible and I can completely understand the issues that caused many to rate this set low. I was fortunate. My disks arrived in great shape and play perfectly. Both my Mom and sister have played the entire series without mishap. However, the package is awkward and doesn't fit my DVD shelf. Having just cardboard to hold the disks also subjects it to the potential of scratches, something you don't get with other kinds of packaging.

If you are willing to risk having to ship it back to Amazon and have them send you another copy (which may have the same issue), go for it. Very economical over the separate seasons.Stargate SG-1: The Complete Series Collection』

(Great Product)
『I know that a lot of people have had problems with the packaging, but I received everything as it was supposed to be. None of the disks had scratches, and all of the disks were in proper order.』

(Liked the Series; Did not receive what was supposed to be in this collection)
『I bought this collection a year or so ago and gave it to my nephew. I noticed that he had put season 9&10 on a gift list of his recently and asked why he did that as he had the whole collection. He stated that the set only contained half of season 9 and none of season 10. I asked him why he didn't tell me this earlier, and well, he simply was too polite to let me know this. Too bad. I could have returned this if I had been notified earlier. The point--if you buy this check it immediately to see you have all the seasons. If you give as a gift--ask the person to open as soon as possible upon receipt and do the checking.』

(incomplete set)
『I wanted to purchase the complete series of sg-1. I also did not want to worry about the condition of a used set so I purchased a new one BUT there were still mistakes (missing discs and duplicates of enclosed discs). It made me wary of on-line purchases of DVD sets.』

    (These ARE the voyages)
『It's all about the original series - this is Star Trek, everything else - even good stuff like Next Gen or DS9 is basically good fan fiction!

There are episodes among the classic 79 that don't work but this show is more than the sum of it's parts and I can't think of one show from the sixties, with the exception of the Twilight Zone, that is just as brilliant, insightful, and entertaining as Star Trek.

The Blu-Rays are terrific and the price is amazing - it's taken many years for Paramount to do right by Star Trek fans, and these season sets have been well produced and very affordable - this is a must own for any Star Trek fan or anyone who enjoys classic TV.』

(I'm not sure I get all the Hype)
『Star Trek is one of the biggest franchises ever. I first came across it with The Next Generation series. So, when the blu ray of the original came out, I jumped on it. The blu ray presentation--in terms of quality of image and sound--is unparalleled for any series of its time. I was blown away that a series this old could look and sound this good. Now the actual material was a little more uneven than I expected. Some of it is brilliant (Menagerie, Balance of Terror, Court Martial), some of its good, but there is some that is bad, really bad (The Man Trap, Miri, Shore Leave). I watched in utter disbelief as Sulu pranced around in one episode swinging a sword! Yes, there are number of these horrible moments. Of course, there are moments of brilliance and episodes where you see the future potential of the series. Menagerie Parts 1&2 is one of those. Jeffrey Hunter is brilliant and the story is one of the best of all Star Trek. BTW, Kirk and Spock are really, really good episode after episode. There are a number of good guest performances and even some surprising ones (like Joan Collins). Overall, it's ok, but not the best.』
『Space. The Final Frontier. The U.S.S. Enterprise embarks on a five year mission to explore the galaxy. The Enterprise is under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. The First Officer is Mr. Spock, from the planet Vulcan. The Chief Medical Officer is Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy. With a determined crew, the Enterprise encounters Klingons, Romulans, time paradoxes, tribbles and genetic supermen lead by Khan Noonian Singh. Their mission is to explore strange new worlds, to seek new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

    (An Awesome Action Film!!!)
『I have been waiting for a 4th Terminator film for six years, and I'm glad I finally got it! It had a great storyline, great actors, great special effects, and a great direction! In the year 2003, Marcus Wright is on death row and sign his body over to Skynet for medical research. 15 years later, John Connor is the leader of the Resistance against the machines. He finds out that he is on Skynet's hit list along with his father, Kyle Reese, who is a teenager. Marcus is back and meets Kyle and Star. They try to get to John Connor, but Kyle and Star are captured by a machine and taken prisoner. Marcus reaches John and his crew to tell him about Kyle. We soon find out that Marcus is a terminator who thinks he is human. Marcus helps John by going into the heart of Skynet's headquarters and disable its defenses so John can save Kyle Reese and the other prisoners. They must battle some tough Terminators in order to make it out alive. I highly recommend TERMINATOR SALVATION!!!』

(There is no Salvation for this Terminator flick)
『Let me begin this by saying that I am a very big Terminator fan. I loved the three previous films, the third being the weakest in my opinion, and even loved the way that the television series was so true to the mythology of The Terminator. Though the Terminator Salvation did stay true to the mythology in terms of characters, location and historic story development.it simply fell short. Mc.G is an okay director....though the only thing I really half like of his is Charlies Angels full throttle. The cast is outstanding, and do put in a good performance...but the overall story of the film is wanting. Unlike the previous Terminator outings this film is not about fighting the future...instead this film is about a futuristic fight. The Terminator story line was simplified into a futuristic war movie. Don't get me wrong...it was kinda cool to see the war with the machines in live action...but they could have and should have done more to make this story not only follow the mythology but "feel" like a Terminator film, quite literally you could have called this film Transformers 1 1/2 and it would have been just as good. The need for the future to be unknown, changing, and chasing after the present is one of the coolest things about the Terminator movie franchise and is one of the things that is desperately missing from this film...and keeps it from fitting comfortably in the Terminator series.

I literally felt robbed after this film, not only does the film not feel like a Terminator movie...but after its all said and done, as a viewer you realize that it was nothing more than a set up for a squeal. The failure for the Production Team to get the idea of the Terminator Mythos correct is devastating to this movie, and the shotty writing and reliance on spacial effects to carry the film is it's downfall. In short this movie is allot of popcorn fun...but a very bad Terminator Movie.

    (Glad but yet also sad)
『I saw this movie with my son, and it is nothing like the other movies but make a little bit of sense to me but I think it could have been a hell of alot better with fighting sequence and special effets. I understand why sam worthington is a terminator because of my states gov. not being able to film in it but yet they use the cg versiion of him, that was cool. on the other hand I think they should bring worthingtons caracter back for the next movie and give him more of a role as well as other cast members . and find someone other than christan bale.....』

(Saw this down in Orlando, FL)
    『T4 isn't as good as the 1st.

I had a movie ticket to use,&Paramount wasn't showing Star Trek that night.
    It was OK.

    I rate it Z4, as in ZZZZ.』

(A worthy sequel to a great franchise..)
『I dont care what naysayers or even critics who get paid to criticize the film, this IS a worthy sequel. Sure it aint the same without Arnold being there throughout the movie but ever since watching flashbacks of the future war in the previous installments, id say it was about time that someone made a film that shows what happens next after judgement day happend. If you watch closely, you would notice more than one homage to the first two films. From seeing the ruins of observation area where the first terminator arrived in T1, Marcus showing Reese how to handle a shotgun by tying a string to it which Reese did in T1 to help hide his gun in his trenchcoat, to a similar chase scene with a truck&the motor-terminators lookin like the first chace scene in T2, and even John Connor playin ( You Could Be Mine)
by Gun's N Roses to lower a motor-terminator into a trap etc. Anton Yelchin really impressed me as a young Kyle Reese throughout the film just as Sam Worthington played a great cyborg who later finds out he's a pawn to eliminate mankind. Christian Bale pulled off John Connor well himself. As for Moon Bloodgood, Common,&Bryce Dallas Howard i would say it was unfair to discredit them when they didnt get that much screen time. But anyways, if you're a true terminator fan you will enjoy this film. Especially the climax that leaves you wondering what awaits John connor in further battles. Keep in mind that the film takes place in the early years of the war and if you still dont like it, stick to the Terminator: TSCC tv series instead if thats more your taste.』

    (Brilliance)
『I cannot say enough about the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan. The combination of the acting, mise-en-scen, and cinematography all amalgamate to provide the viewer with spectacular artistic images, excellent portrayals of characteristic ideologies, and as well as a thrilling psychological plot.
The acting led by Christian Bale and Heath Ledger is only to be followed by an outstanding all star cast including Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and Aaron Eckhart. Bale continues his role as Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman for the second time after his initial success in Batman Begins. No matter how great of a performance Christian Bale put out there for the audience, his acting will forever be overshadowed by that of Heath Ledger who died shortly after the making of the film, and thus this movie will forever be known as "the role that killed Heath." Christopher Nolan and Heath worked tremendously together capturing the essence of the half serial killer, half chaotic sociopath adding tremendous depth and complexity to the Joker not seen in the original comics. The only weak point in this cast in my opinion was Maggie Gyllenhaal who replaced Katie Holmes from the previous film. She looked old and out of touch with the whole Bruce Wayne and Rachael Dawes typical comic love affair, but simply their chemistry on stage did not coincide.
The Mise-en-scen of The Dark Knight refers to everything on stage (the props, sets, costumes, and acting), and was mainly the brainchild of Nolan's brilliant thinking. Combined with the cinematography or how the movie was filmed (lighting, camera angles, camera movement, etc.) Nolan creates stunning visuals for the two and a half hour saga of good against evil. The film itself contains many long shots and astonishing background and inversion camera clippings creating stunning visuals on the big screen. The set seems to be jammed packed with props and intricate details that the viewer can really appreciate. Many resent the fact that it is over one hundred and fifty minutes long, but actually on the contrary I believe it adds to the overall suspense and to be frank any shorter of the movie would undoubtedly fail to do justice to the actors and plot of the film.
In conclusion the viewer should buy this movie for the action scenes, excellent examples of great directing, an all -star cast, not to mention the fact that it was Heath Ledger's last film ever.』

    (Beyond what I expected)
『Knowning all the hype that was put out about this movie had me very very concerned. Due to, from past experience, the lack of substance that a movie will have once completed and in theaters. More times than not a movie with such over hype usually is just a way for studios to try to gain money from the audeince who doesn't know any better and once it is seen it falls away into oblivian. That was my concern about this movie. That it would suck so bad that it completely destory Batman as a comic book character that has been around since the early 20th century. Just because studios think that the masses are just dumb sheep who will make a hit out of a movie just because of a lot of advertising was put behind it.

However, I was pleasantly proven wrong about this movie. What Christpher Nolan did with Batman Begins he built upon in this one. We see a city still in dispair to the point of breaking. Yet there is hope on the streets and fear starting emerge in the hearts of criminals, all because of Batman. Along comes the Joker. He is a sucidal maniac who wants to prove to the world that it sits on a thin thread between chaos and order. Thinking that most of society, at its heart, is chaotic is oout to take down the only thing standing between him and complete anarchy, Batman. To take down the Joker and his diabolical plans Batman, LT. Gordon, and newly appointed D.A. Harvey Dent team up. Although, the heroes of this story try to take down the Joker through moral ways he makes it very difficult for them to make the right decision and become a symbol of hope for the city of Gotham.

In the end the movie blew me away and then some. The script was well written. The movie was well acted by everyone included. And the moral choices that the characters had to make pushed comic book heroes into the real life that everyone can identify with.』

    (A Nearly Three Hour Speech)
『Mention character study as a reason to watch a movie to me, and you have just counterproducted yourself. When you say character study, I often say people study. Unlike some movie fans, I try my best to say grounded with reality, trying very hard not get impressed by every character on the screen as much as possible, getting to know (or observing) interesting people, getting into interesting experiences situations by myself, basically, all things real life. That doesn't mean I dislike a character study. Even though plot, film making, characters are crucial in making a movie complete. Interesting characters really can make a movie all that better. Oh who am I kidding? Bland characters can kill a movie. Just ask Roland Emmerich, as his characters are so bland that all the special effects in the world can't make a great movie (although, surprise surprise, his later).

Characters in movies are a peculiar thing. Some of them can be memorable, easy to love, identify, and let you watch and believe it, feeling everything the character is, loving or hating the person on screen. Even sometimes, the actors can make a character that isn't totally unique fall into this catergory. On the flip side, so many characters in movies are so "real" that watching them makes you wonder why the hell your even watching these personalities on the screen. So much that you realize that you aren't living a life of your own at all. Chances are, they don't have much plot revolving around them either.

The Dark Knight is being touted as the most realistic and intelligent comic book movie ever, a label that has so much laughable baggage in it. Basically, I see the whole Batman and DC comic label a gimmick. The story is not that interesting underneath, there is no atmosphere, the characters are not that interesting, the themes are't that original, and everything is ANALYZED to death (Nostalgia Critic hit the nail on what he meant about that). The Nostalgia Critic was right about what he said about analyzed, as everything is talked about at length. And many of the speeches aren't even that original. When the Joker is talking about how civiled people turn into animals, DOES THAT SOUND FAMILIAR? It something that was told in Lord of the Flies, nay, Freud's concept of the id, ego, and supergo already. And Freud's concept says a lot more in less tedious ways.

So who are the characters? Yes, the Joker is all about anarchy and chaos, but so are many other people. Sure, none have been close to taking over a city, but I think that most can figure out that anarchy can get out of hand. Frankly, seeing it really isn't that interesting. The Joker also really doesn't resemble the comic books as much as he should. When drawn, the Joker looks INSANE, crazy, and loony. I remember how much I used to shake at the sight of such pictures as Batman: The Man Who Laughs. Heath Ledger's joker look still doesn't do that much for me. And forget his . Jack Nicholson's is a litte more fun, and since Heath doesn't scare me that much, Nicholson's cartoony edge makes him more fun to watch.

The Dark Knight, however, is not a bad movie. Christopher Nolan is a great director, the acting is stellar, the music is great, basically, the technical aspects are excellent. The action scenes are exciting, as well as some great scenes that I liked scattered about. I also loved the Batmobile and the batbike, watching his costumes, and Heath Ledger's brillaint scene with his hostage. It wasn't exactly scary, but I could only imagine the silence that followed in the theater after it. Also, Two-Face was the best incarnation of the villian, considering that the first incarnation of the villian, well nevermind. Gary Oldman also was a much better Detective Gordon, simply because how well he sinks into the role. Oldman can sink into anything.

Yes, I do like Tim Burton's Batman series better, but that's not why I am rating this as an average movie. Rather everything else above makes it average. While this is miles better than the Joel Schumacher movies (Ya think?), it's touted "realism" is third person, which really hampers the movie since it has absolutely nothing to really offer besides that, a character study. Did I enjoy it? Sure. However, I expected a whole lot more, and The Dark Knight would probably not even got if it wasn't bagged as a comic book movie (ugh), no less known as a Batman movie.』

    (love it!)
『I really enjoyed this movie it was full of action and the dark knight was amazing I really don't like the bat-man but what are you going to do I would have preferred Clooney but what are you going to do overall it is a must see movie!』

    (Boring and Pointless)
『On one hand it's the easiest thing to make a comic book movie -- the characters, the plot, the fan base are already there. On the other hand it's the hardest thing to make a comic book movie -- the characters, the plot, the fan base are already there.

There is an inherent contradiction in "Batman": a billionaire vigilante who prowls the streets to beat up poor thugs must be a psychopath, megalomaniac, and narcissist -- yet he accepts most social norms, the most important being that murder is wrong. Batman's a psychopath with a conscience -- he's an impossible contradiction.

Nearly everyone before has chosen to ignore this contradiction but the director Christopher Nolan chooses to confront it outright in "The Dark Knight" by asking what a hero is, and what kind of a hero society needs.

Strangely enough Mr. Nolan chooses to ask these questions by showing what a hero is not -- the real star of the movie is Batman's arch-nemesis the Joker, who in his actions and logic begins and drives the plot of the movie.

The strangest thing about a villain named the Joker is that he's not funny. And he's certainly not mad, otherwise he would make sense. In a hospital scene with another villain Two-Face the Joker tries to explain his motivations -- and is completely incoherent. Joker rails against those "with a plan" and the order of things but unlike Tyler Durden in "Fight Club" doesn't point any fingers.

Because he's an amoral thinker and tinkerer of the human condition the Joker would be better off calling himself "Philosopher" or "Professor." Remember how in college you attended classes where a very serious man stood on the lectern and lectured on endlessly with big words and complicated syntax? You have to believe he was talking about something serious but you just don't know what he's talking about, and in the end you have to believe he doesn't know either -- well, that's the Joker in "The Dark Knight."

After two and a half hours we learn absolutely nothing concrete about the Joker -- and he's just implausible. He's brilliant but incoherent. He can plan the perfect bank heist, and kill anyone he wants -- but he can't articulate his motives. So we're stuck with this brilliant villain who likes to kill and maim but doesn't know why -- and we all know that what brilliant villains can do best is rationalize -- Hitler and Stalin and Mao all thought they were saviors and saints.

It is impossible to watch the Joker, and not think that this is Heath Ledger playing the Joker. Heath Ledger gives a marvelously subtle performance in "Brokeback Mountain," and you have to believe he's trying his best to articulate something in "The Dark Knight" -- possibly re-create Milton's Satan for the 21st century? -- but either the script or the director or the producer doesn't co-operate, and he's left with saying nothing whatsoever. He's trying and he's talking but he's been muted -- isn't that one of the most frustrating, unsatisfying positions an artist can find himself in?

Because of Heath Ledger's death we'll all remember the Joker, and what will we remember about the Joker? That when the whole world was paying attention he said nothing at all.

And how about the director Christopher Nolan? His debut "Memento," though rough and jagged and excessive, is still nevertheless powerful and shocking -- one of the best films ever made. And with "The Prestige" -- his best film to date -- he shows what a very skilled craftsman he is. And "The Dark Knight" is competently made -- the music is superb, the various subplots weave together nicely, and the cinematography is stunning and innovative. But the director is clearly unsure of what kind of movie he wants to make, or capable of making. Does he want to make eye candy, and delight the 16-year old boys who are the cornerstone of the Summer Blockbuster industry? Or does he want to make a thought-provoking character study that will affirm his status as one of Hollywood's best young filmmakers? Unfortunately he wants both, and the result is thoroughly unsatisfying. He asks hard questions but gives easy answers; he wants to be an artist but he wants to appeal to popular tastes.

And thus the consistent and competent Mr. Nolan may be stuck making consistently competent films all his life, and already Mr. Nolan must be asking: why? "The Dark Knight" says nothing, and even worse it tries too damn hard to say something.

And then there's Christian Bale. He's proven himself a brilliant actor in "American Psycho" and "The Machinist," and why he's chosen to play a Phallus for two and a half hours is an even harder question than why Joker chooses to kill and why Christopher Nolan chose to direct "The Dark Knight." At least the Joker must enjoy killing and Christopher Nolan enjoy directing but Mr. Bale does not look happy playing Batman -- he looks bored out of his mind. Neither Batman nor his alter-ego Bruce Wayne has any personality -- he's a hero, and he's not allowed to have any flaws.

And so let's end with the question we began with: just who is Batman? Again, in our popular culture, Batman is one of the great contradictions. But more importantly he's one of the greatest inventions. Boys all think it'd be cool to be powerful and unique -- they all think they can be a superhero. Parents and teachers rightly are concerned that this aspiration unchecked could easily lead some very special children to become mass murderers. So adults imbue every comic book superhero with a conscience, and adults always tell kids it's this conscience that makes the superhero really a superhero.

Now do kids really buy this? Is a superhero with a conscience really cool? But -- wait a minute -- does a superhero with a conscience make any sense? Isn't the point of having superpowers to do whatever you want, to kill whomever you choose? What's the point of being God if you have follow human laws and rules?

Well, adults get away from these difficult questions by making Batman cool. How? By outlawing him -- by branding him a vigilante, and trying to arrest him. Batman is a misunderstood superhero -- and for kids that's really cool, and if their misunderstood superhero has a conscience that's okay because he's being chased by the police.

That ultimately is how "The Dark Knight" ends. By becoming a fugitive and being outlawed Batman shows he's cooler than the Joker. We may not know the difference between what's good and what's evil but we certainly know the difference between what's cool and what's not -- and that's more important. Isn't it the coolest thing in the world not to kill but to have everyone think you killed? You have a clean conscience, and you have the respect of all your peers. That's why we can leave the movie theater exhausted but smiling -- we were right to cheer for Batman all along.』

『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 12/09/2008 Run time: 151 minutes Rating: Pg13』
The Dark Knightarrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralyzed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director-cowriter Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimedBatman Beginswith an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies likeSpider-Man 2andIron Manbecause of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knightis a film for the ages.--David Horiuchi

(One of the worst movies I've ever seen.)
『The acting was abysmal. And that side story about the two ninjas was absolutely ridiculous. But the WORST part was the ridiculous inaccuracy in which the military was portrayed. I know the movie is fiction but c'mon - Channing Tatum sporting a goatee while wearing his Service Dress Uniform??? Are you kidding? One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Wouldn't buy this movie for 20 cents, let alone 20 dollars.』

    (GI Joe rocked the house)
『This move was not meant to be any more like the original comic book series than any of the other recent flicks from our child hood days. The movie has a fairly good plot which is a plus as always but the action and special effects were what brought this film alive in a big way. The CGI and true life scenes blended together seamlessly. I also thought it was great that the actresses were not just in the film for eye candy but truly kicked some serious backside! I remember as a kid when reading the comics how the futuristic plots would seem so "cool" and this film brought that feeling back with the nanomite plot. You can not go wrong by adding this to your Blu-ray collection.』

    (C.G.I. Joe)
『The title for the review says it all. The over-use of computer animated graphics made this flick somewhat cheesy. If you can stomach this problem, the movie itself is pretty cool&the characters are pretty good as well. The acting is only so-so, but it is what you would expect from a movie that is not loaded with A-listers. The plot was somewhat predictable just as it was in the animated series back in the 80's, so that is fine. The fake new technology/weapons in the movie was very cool&made for an interesting storyline. As long as the Baroness comes back for the sequel&is once again clad in pleather....I will be watching it.』

    (JUST ENTERTAINING ENOUGH)
『If you are looking for something with cool effects, some action scenes and a little eye candy here and there for a kick back evening, this will probably do. It's worth a rent just for kicks, but honestly, it was just entertaining enough to overcome some really horrible acting from Channing Tatum. His stilted lines, rushed delivery and lifeless performance is enough to be truly distracting. I like several of the other actors and frankly they along with the effects save this movie from abject failure. I made the mistake of a blind buy and have lived to regret it.』

    (Action)
『This movie is full of action. Sometimes you can have a little too much action, but very good.』
『Based on Hasbro’s immensely popular action figures,G.I. Joeis the ultimate elite fighting force, engaged in an extraordinary action-adventure matchup of good versus evil! InG.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the G.I. Joe team, armed with the coolest hi-tech gadgets and weapons, travels the world from the Egyptian desert to the polar ice caps in a high stakes pursuit of Cobra, an evil international organization threatening to use a technology that could bring the world to its knees.』
The Rise of Cobrais not your grandfather's G.I. Joe. It's more like C.G.I. Joe with explosive special-effects action sequences that provide the film with a surplus of "Boom Boom Pow" (to quote the Black Eyed Peas song that drives the end credits). This blast from the summer past is very much like the metal-munching nano-mite missiles a (literally) mad Doctor (Joseph Gordon-Levitt cashing in some of his indie cred) and McCullen, a Scottish weapons dealer (Christopher Eccleston), threaten to unleash upon the world. It never stops. Ever. The original G.I. Joe action figure was an all-American hero. These Joes are--all together now--"the best of the best," an elite multi-national squad. Two soldiers, Duke (a buff Channing Tatum), an "on the ground, in the fight" kind of guy, and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans), his wisecracking best friend, are rescued by the Joes after they are ambushed while transporting the missiles. These are no ordinary Joes. Snake-Eyes (Ray Park) is a silent ninja, Stella (Rachel Nichols) a bodacious brainiac, Heavy Duty (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) the imposing weapons specialist, and Breaker (Said Taghamaoui) the techie. They are led by gruff Gen. Hawk (Dennis Quaid), who barks out lines like, "When all else fails, we don't," with polish. Duke and Ripcord are recruited to join the classified unit after Duke discovers that Ana (Sienna Miller), his former fiancée, is in cahoots with McCullen and now sports the sinister moniker the Baroness, not to mention killer cleavage-enhancing latex outfits. This being the first in a budding franchise, there is much backstory to cover. Flashbacks date back to 1641! But the order of the day is underground military command centers, underwater evil lairs, gleaming high-tech weaponry, breakneck chases, and cool gadgets, such as a speed-accelerating hydraulic suit. It's enough to make you want to dust off your original Hasbro action figures or, the studio no doubt hopes, buy the new ones.--Donald Liebenson

    (Happy Memories)
『I love these DVD's and plan to buy the others in the collection. They take me back to Saturday mornings as a kid, and I love sharing them with my nieces. Highly recommend these to any Looney Tune fan!』

(ESSENTIAL for any Looney Tunes fan!)
『These Looney Tunes classics are still hilarious fun, and the excellent Golden Collection sets are like treasure troves for fans. This set (Volume One) is, in my opinion, the very best of them all. It's the best place to start a Looney Tunes collection. If you only own one set, this is the one to get.

The Warner Brothers theatrical cartoons (Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies) represent a high point in animation. The cartoons were groundbreaking for their wild humor and off-the-wall style. I'm only an amateur when it comes to animation history, but the cartoons are great and the bonus features are very interesting.

The Looney Tunes were originally played before Warner Bros. movies and were later played on television and marketed toward kids. This is how I saw the Looney Tunes growing up. The cartoons, however, were not made with kids in mind, and I am happy to say that they hold up very well with adult viewers. I was a little surprised how FUNNY these fifty- and sixty-year-old cartoons still are.

As this is the first Golden Collection set, I believe these 4 discs contain the best mix of Looney Tunes classics of all the sets. Many memorable cartoons from my childhood. Disc One focuses on Bugs Bunny, Disc Two focuses on Porky and Daffy, and the final two discs are a hodge podge of Looney Tunes characters.

    High points include:
"Baseball Bugs" - classic Bugs Bunny baseball cartoon
"Rabbit Seasoning" - part 2 of the classic Rabbit Season/Duck Season, Bugs-Daffy-Elmer trilogy
"High Diving Hare" - Bugs vs. Yosemite Sam and a high-diving routine; funny stuff
"Rabbit of Seville" - Bugs and Elmer in an opera (the one where barber Bugs massages Elmer's head with his toes)
"Duck Amuck" - Daffy is at odds with the animator

...as well as appearances by Marvin Martian, Sylvester, Tweety, Foghorn Leghorn, Wile E. Coyote, Roadrunner, and even the Tasmanian Devil.

Almost all the cartoons are winners. Some are sure to stand out in your memory, some are culturally or historically significant.

These 4-disc Golden Collection sets are ideal for collectors and animation buffs. Along with nearly 60 cartoons, these sets include a wealth of bonus features and behind-the-scenes extras. Very interesting stuff and well worth it, if you're interested in such things.

Among the extras included in this set are "Behind-the-Tunes" featurettes on Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester/Tweety, Roadrunner/Wyle E. Coyote, Foghorn Leghorn, Speedy Gonzales, Carl Stalling (the man behind the music), and Mel Blanc (the voices of the Looney Tunes); a documentary on the "Golden Age of the Looney Tunes"; and informative audio-commentaries for select cartoons.

**More casual fans or kids/families may be more interested in the less-expensive "Spotlight Collections" (volume one), which feature just two discs of cartoons, without the bonus features. If all you want are the cartoons to watch, these 2-disc sets may be a better option for you.**

The Looney Tunes Golden Collections make excellent gifts and can occasionally be found on sale for about $26 (down from about $50). The sets are great for cartoon lovers and collectors, featuring behind-the-scenes extras to go along with the Looney Tunes shorts. Of all the (six) Golden Collection volumes, this first set is the best, featuring classic cartoons from all the major characters and first-rate bonus features. Later releases were more specialized, but this set contains a healthy mix. One of my favorite DVD sets. Very highly recommended.』

『I purchased the Looney Tunes-Golden Collection for my husbands birthday present. Among all the other gifts he received this was the one he has enjoyed to most. I love to listen to him laugh over and over again. By the end of the night we were all sitting in the TV room having a great time remembering these great cartoons.』

    (Movie)
『Purchased as a gift fot my hubby to add to his collection. Loved the movie.』
『They're the crown princes of animation. They're the international ambassadors of cartoon comedy. They're the fabulously funny friends you grew up with! And now, 56 of the very best animated shorts starring the very wackiest Warner Bros. cartoon characters have been rounded up on DVD for the first time ever in The Looney Tunes Golden Collection! Just barely contained in four special edition discs, each specially selected short has been brilliantly restored and re-mastered to its original, uncut, anvil-dropping, laughter-inducing glory! Featuring some of the very earliest, ground-breaking on-screen appearances of many all-time Looney Tunes favorites, it's an unprecedented celebration for cartoon-lovers eager to re-live the heady, hilarious, golden age of Warner Bros. animation! Sparkling with one unforgettable, landmark animated marvel after another, there's that icon of carrot-crunching aplomb, Bugs Bunny, in a dazzling assortment of his very best classic shorts. Also highlighted in their own delightfully zany series of cartoon gems: the ever-flustered Daffy Duck and eternal straight-man Porky Pig. Plus, all the rest of the beloved Looney Tunes lineup starring in some of the most wildly imaginative cartoon shorts ever created! Including an array of exclusive bonus DVD features from expert commentaries to insights into the evolution of these classic characters, this is the ultimate animated experience for anyone who's ever thrilled to the timeless query: "Ehhh? what's up, Doc?"』
『For years, animation buffs have waited impatiently for the Warner Bros. cartoons to appear on DVD. The Warner shorts never commanded the budgets and prestige of the Disney and MGM films, and won fewer Oscars than they deserved. But decades after the best ones were created, they remain the quintessential Hollywood cartoons: brash, fast-paced, aggressively funny and uniquely American. Virtually everyone in the U.S. under the age of 60 grew up on these films, in theaters and on TV. The 56 cartoons in the set (out of a studio output of over 1,000) were transferred from good prints--which means the viewer can see dust, scratches, and occasional mistakes by the cel painters. The films are all presented uncut, in defiance of the killjoys who have insisted on censoring alleged "violence" in the versions shown on television. Warner Bros. is obviously testing consumer response with this set. Although the erratic selection includes many classics, purists will argue (correctly) that it offers neither a fair representation of the directors'oeuvres, nor anything approaching a coherent history of the characters or studio style. (Nearly half the films were directed by Chuck Jones; only three are by Bob Clampett, and there's nothing by Tex Avery or Frank Tashlin.) But it seems petty to carp about omissions and biases when the discs offer excellent, uncensored prints of some of the funniest films ever made in the U.S.--or anywhere else. (Rated G, suitable for all ages: cartoon violence)--Charles Solomon
