Cleans up Sana-chan's depiction of Reiku as her "pimp" to "manager." Actually leaves big gaps on the Japanese dub, to exclude the background music that they were too lame to secure the rights for. Thanks again (Un)Funimation...are you guys sure you aren't just the old 4-Kids reborn?
Pass on this one, just get a fansub.』
(good show) 『i am about to order the second season. the first season was not great but good. worth watching and sometimes very funny.』
(Easily one of the best child romance, school life, and slice-of-life anime ever!!!) 『I've heard of certain Funimation flops that do well in Japan and are well-recieved critically, but... are financially a flop because not enough people in the U.S. are aware, appreciative, or just flat-out care about this type of show.
Kodocha (anagramical summaration for Kodomo-no-Omocha/a.k.a. A Child's Toy) is a story about a SUPER-hyperactive girl and her everyday life through life at it's highest and lowest moments.
Sana is, by far, one of the most energetic anime heroines EVERRR! So energetic that the word: "energetic" probably can't even describe it! She is an aspiring child actor who is egoless as much as she is energetic, making her one of the VERY FEW hyper anime characters that's not annoying, but rather endearing.
She has a quarrel with one of the bad apples, Akito, and tries to best him, and ends up helping him in a way that forever affects him... She treats it like it's no big deal, but for him... he can't express how grateful and happy he is to her.
Sana thinks of Akito in a dual manner: One side of her thinks of him as a mortal enemy (and I say this in the most humorous of intentions), and the other side of her thinks of him as an eternal best friend.
With this as the initial premise of the story, we go through life in the eyes of kids. Rarely sappy, always fun(ny), sometimes confusing, and emotionally affecting.
(For spoiler reasons I've subtracted, to the best of my abilities, all of the details leading the events I've specified.)
As for the product itself: It contains the first 6 DVDs of the original releases, spanning from eps 1-24, handling the first 2 story arcs, and adding a fun recap episode, and some great slice-of-lifers.
The audio options are English 5.1, Stereo, and Japanese Stereo. You might think that a 5.1 seems unnecessary for this type of show, but believe me! IT IS A HUGE BONUS! Dubbing is handled by Funimation. Funimation is widely known for their adaptable reversioning on Dragon Ball Z, their legendary voice work for Fullmetal Alchemist, and for their super accurate adapation of the life affecting Mushi-Shi. Here we see more of an interpretation than an accurate dub effort. That doesn't mean, by a long shot, that it's on of their inferior works!
Laura Bailey shows some of the best talents an English VA can do. Her fast paced speech is PERFECTION for Sana's character. COMPLETE PERFECTION!!! Need further proof? Watch the 1st episode! Jerry Jewell initially disturbed viewers with his low-pitched tone, that some thought was too deep to pass as a kid. If you continue though, you'll find that his voice connects quite... pleasingly... It's an (extremely fast) acquired taste, so no worries with that issue.
Extra's include textless opener, interviews with the director, and commentaries with Collen Clinkenbeard, and Laura Bailey. The commentaries were especially interesting, since you see how much fun they had with the series, in both dubbing and in actually watching it!
Kodocha is an overlooked anime that NEEDS much more attention than it already has. Buying this is a no-brainer, and, while it may seem like a Saturday morning cartoon, it has some of the best insights of child life that NO cartoon, American or Japan, has!』
(Worth having) 『I enjoyed this Anime collection very much. You can find other reviews that will tell you all you could want to know about the story and content. So in summation it was amusing, some thought provoking content and enjoyable.』
(Hyperactive comedy that's worth a look) 『Kodocha is likely one of the best anime I've seen. Everything is very inspired, and you'll always look forward to what's going to happen next. Contrary to what the beginning of the first episode may lead you to believe, there are some genuine serious moments, but they're very well-done. Of course, funny moments break things up for the better.
Kodocha succeeds with over-the-top humor, likeable characters and a heart of gold. Give it a look.』 『Sana Kurata may be a famous TV star, yet her life is anything but perfect! And it seems as if the only time this 11-year-old superstar isn't causing trouble is when she s trying to fix it. But even then, there is bound to be some sort of chaos! From feuding friends and neighborhood nuisances to tabloid reporters, classroom battles and scripted kisses, Sana has got her hands full. And just as her career takes an unexpected nose dive, the book she has worked so hard to publish looks to do more harm than good.
But life's hardest lesson lies just around the corner, and Sana is gonna have to realize there are some problems that just can t be fixed. Will the distraught diva come to her senses before it s too late? Or will tragedy breed tragedy? Find out on Kodocha!』

However, I am only a fan of the original episodes that I watched when I was in fifth grade. They released the Inidgo season in three boxed sets and after hesitating I bought them to finally rewatch the old series and realized I not only found it enjoyable reliving my childhood but also found it more enjoyable than I remembered and filled with alot more tongue in cheek humor than the cutesiness so often associated with it. After years of listening to people my age bash it through later years I must have started thinking of it as a kiddy show, but when you watch it and if you don't mind animation the writing is very funny, I had forgotten that was one of the reasons it was so entertaining apart from the feeling of adventure (that I still in part wish I could go on).
When the show was originally on I only watched up to the end of the Orange Island episodes before I felt too old to do it anymore. As I've said lately I bought the Indigo sets and the Orange Islands set and loved rewatching them so I took a chance and bought the Master Quest Boxed sets 1 and 2 (which are season 5 of the show), I didn't think they were overall as great but the writing was still very funny and the continued adventure of these characters, that felt like old friends from my childhood, was appealing enough to make those sets very enjoyable. Now I come to my problem.
I thought in line with their recent releases of the first seasons that VIZ would release the Johto Boxed Sets of Season 3, *The Johto Journeys, and Season 4, *Road to the Johto League Championship, but I haven't heard or seen anything about them yet. I know those series were already released on DVD/VHS but only in individual releases of three episodes and the fourth season in releases of only seven episodes. I would much rather prefer Boxed Sets of these seasons but for some reason they stopped putting out the old episodes and only seem to be focused on the newer ones (which I saw once on tv and couldn't stand the voices or the new writing, but that's just because I didn't grow up on it), I see alot of the Pokemon All Star releases planned for episodes around 'Favorite' Pokemon and I've seen New Frontier and Diamond and Pearl box sets out for release but no more Johto sets. I am a little annoyed by this, and though this product is good for your children or you if you like it, I just want to be able to watch the rest of the Johto episodes and obtain them easily and inexpensively in the form of a DVD set.
Someone please tell me if you ever know anything about the Johto sets or even if you're just waiting for them like I am so I know I'm not the only one left hanging by VIZ.
Sorry this review isn't all that much about the product listed but if you're a fan of the newer episodes it's a great way to collect them, if your more a fan of the older episodes I don't find the new ones as well done and the newer Pokemon designs got too weird for me, but you may enjoy them.
The sets are made of three slim disc cases and are held in sturdy cardboard slipcover cases, of which they slide out one open side. Here is a list of the 17 episodes that should be on this set finishing out the tenth season based on the previous two:
501 An Elite Meet and Greet!__502 A Secret Sphere of Influence! 503 The Grass Menagerie!____504 One Big Happiny Family! 505 Steamboat Willies!_______506 Top - Down Training! 507 A Stand-Up Sit-Down!___508 The Electrike Company! 509 Malice in Wonderland!____510 Mass Hip-Po-Sis! 511 Ill-Will Hunting_________512 A Maze-ing Race! 513 Sandshrew's Locker_____514 Dawn's Early Night 515 Tag! We're It...!_______516 Glory Blaze 517 Smells Like Team Spirit!
Also The TV Movie Rise Of Darkrai, available on DVD, supposedly takes place between episode 506 and 507.
Thanks For Your Time.』 『Collecting Pokemon is no easy task, Dawn finds, and training them can be even harder! The work pays off as she and Ash and Brock make their way to Eterna City for Ash's next gym battle, then on to Hearthome for the Sinnoh Double Battle Tournament. But the biggest challenge of all just might be getting there! Can a Pokemon with teleportation skills give them a hand?』

Great story line! Media mix of hand-drawn and CGI, can't even tell, till you watch the extras. I would suggest this to my anime fans.』
(Great value!) 『I've loved Ergo Proxy, ever since it came out back in 2006. The art is extremely well done, and the soundtrack is lush and futuristic. I would place this series at the top of my favored anime list. I did not get a chance to experience the dubbing as I tend to watch my anime with subtitles. I will say that the translation of the subtitles can be a tad bit spotty in parts, with examples of Engrish popping up occasionally. Not something to be concerned about, as it will not distract the viewer too much from absorbing the story. The price seems very reasonable for the quality of the series. 5 stars.』 『The domed city of Romdo is an impenetrable would-be utopia where humans and robots coexist, and everything is under complete government control, or so it appears. Disappointed that the original Japanese has been removed and that the product description was incorrect.』 『Ash, Dawn and Brock continue to collect and train new Pokémon on their travels. Along the way they meet up with Pokémon fossils brought back to life and a mercenary Pokémon thief who can out-thieve even Team Rocket! But if those challenges can't bring our heroes down, nothing can! Except maybe a Pokémon dress-up competition?!』 『Ash, Dawn, Brock, and Pikachu continue their journey through the Sinnoh region, the setting for theDiamond and Pearladventure and the same version of the video game. On his second try, Ash defeats Roarke in the Oreburg Gym to win the Coal Badge. Dawn scores her first success as a Coordinator, earning the Floaroma Ribbon; Brock and his Croagunk come from behind to take the title in a Pokémon dress-up contest. His prize is an egg from an unknown type of Pokémon. Ash, Brock, and Misty learn to make the Pokémon snack called Poffins, which are as much bother in the animated series as they are in the game. The adventurers meet Cheryl, a treasure hunter hoping to realize her grandfather's dream, and spend several episodes with her looking for the Amber Castle where super-sweet Magic Honey is hidden. Jessie, James, and Meowth of Team Rocket supply comic villainy. But their slapstick failures are eclipsed by the arrival of Jey, an evil hunter who traps Pokémon in a sand-like substance and sells them to the highest bidder. She eludes the efforts of Officer Jenny and the regular cast to capture her, and will certainly reappear in later episodes. The addition of a serious villain shifts the tone of this long-running fantasy-adventure. (Rated A, suitable for All Ages: minor cartoon violence.)--Charles Solomon

Girl comes in contact with strange world, discovers ancient mysteries and forgotten technologies, has a protracted tease-relationship with the prince, there's mechas and cool fights, flying ships, etc., etc. You've read, seen and played this before. Story archetypes are so cliche as to have been explored and classified for a long time now so truly there's nothing new under the sun. However, as the creators seem to know, it's in the *telling* that legends are made. And what telling this is! Its beautiful, shoujo style contains character archetypes which get deconstructed into nuanced, real characters as the show goes on. The valiant prince, the dashing rogue, the schoolgirl ingenue, the bloodthirsty youngster; all get a realistic treatment in a fantasy world. Even class issues feature prominently in the arc of one of the characters but I don't want to spoil. The humongous mecha (robots) also get the realistic-within-the-fantasy-world treatment and the relationship between Van and Escaflowne becomes like the relationship between King Arthur and Excalibur: it's both the source of his power, his birthright and ultimately, his burden. The music, like any Yoko Kanno soundtrack, is a fantastic thing unto itself. From the gregorian chant-style, mood-setting main theme to the dramatic, urgent, almost screechy violins and subsequent thundering of drums and voices of the battle music, the soundtrack has a bit of everything. I was especially touched by Folken's theme, a simple cello melody which becomes more complex in a crescendo of notes and "Blue eyes", the love theme which gets both instrumental and sung renditions throughout the series. The opening song, one of my favorites, is as bright and hopeful as it gets without being corny. Maaya Sakamoto's singing in these two is expert and restrained, very enjoyable.
In short, this is a great anime series, certainly one that winds up in a lot of those "must-see" and "classic anime" lists. It's also a fully-contained work in itself, the vision of a director which throughout its 26 episodes keeps you on your toes constantly and just when you thought you knew what or who was behind it all, another great twist puts everything in context. You won't be disappointed.』
(Mecha Anime for Mystics) 『Visions of Escaflowne is my favorite anime (along with Neon Genesis Evangelion and Rurouni Kenshin). Although Escaflowne features mechas, it's quite different from your Super Robot and Real Robot shows. If anything, Escaflowne is a blending of different genres including action, adventure, romance and fantasy, all in equal measure... And that's probably Escaflowne's strong point. It's one of the most well-balanced anime titles out there. You'll be hard-pressed to find another anime that blends so many different genres together.
The atmosphere in Escaflowne is also incredible. The series has a deep mystical atmosphere that completely absorbs your attention. If you're a person who loves exploring mystical and exotic things, the atmosphere in Escaflowne will blow you away. It's by far the most atmosphere mecha anime i've seen. The soundtrack (done by the same person who did Cowboy Bebop's soundtrack) is one of my favorite soundtracks in an anime. My favorite track is the one that Folken whistles when he meets with Van ("The Cradle Song"). You should definitely check this track out on youtube to get a sense of the Escaflowne's amazing soundscape. It's one of the very few anime series that i've seen with lots of heart. Escaflowne is simply beautiful.
So if you're looking for a mecha series filled with tons of adventure and fantasy, you can't do better than Escaflowne. Not since Xenogears (an anime-ish mecha RPG) have i encountered a mecha story filled with so much adventure.』
(great series) 『I just finished up escaflowne and it lived up to the praise that i had heard』
(One of the Animes You'll Never Forget) 『I remember watching this anime almost five years ago. It was actually the second anime I had ever watched. Since that time, I have watched many more anime, and believe me when I say you won't be forgetting this one anytime soon. For all those years that I didn't own this anime, I'd remember it and think on it; for it has many interesting points to think about. This anime would be for any age. It has the action, romance, and poetry for the younger kids, and the subtle messages and all of the above for the elder. The packaging that the anime comes in isn't the best out there, but it is quite durable if your careful with it. Hopefully you are. ^o^ Oh yeah, I would recommend that you watch this anime in the original Japanese with the English subtitles. The English voices, I think, don't have enough emotion in them to do the anime justice.』
(Highly over-rated) 『A friend of mine lent me his store-bought copy of Escaflowne on VHS tape, and I sat down and watched it. I thought it was a typical anime, but nothing outstanding.
A year passed and then I found the reviews here on Amazon about how this is "the perfect television show" and how it deals with complicated political issues, and so on. So I sat down and watched the whole show a second time, thinking maybe I had missed something.
Well I'm still unimpressed. It isn't a bad show, which is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1, but it isn't a great show either. In fact it seems rather juvenile and simplistic in the way it deals with problems - something akin to a CW teen soap opera but with Japanese style. In any case, twice viewed is enough for me. I won't be watching Escaflowne again.
In my humble opinion if you're looking for depth (in terms of politics, religion, and interpersonal disputes), then you should look elsewhere like Star Trek DS9 or Babylon 5. Or if you prefer animation then try Macross.
』 『Hitomi Kanzaki is a typical high school girl, with typical high school problems. But when a vision of a young man battling a dragon becomes a reality, her life changes forever. Drawn into a strange vortex with the swordsman, Van, Hitomi is thrust into the strange world of Gaea. Entangled in a struggle over life and death, Van must learn to master the suit of armor, Escaflowne. Chased by the Empire of Azibach, Van and Hitomi will encounter both allies and enemies in an effort to unlock the secrets within Escaflowne. Hitomi's heart is stirred by love and adventure, but at times aches with sorrow. The entire 26 episode epic series in one package. Genre: Action/Romance/Fantasy』 『Although it didn’t fare well on Fox Kids,Escaflowne has a large, loyal following, perhaps because this sprawling fantasy offers the ingredients of classicmecha, sword-and-sorcery and magical girl adventures. After psychic teen-ager Hitomi has a vision of a man battling a dragon, Prince Van of Fanelia and a dragon materialize. He slays the monster and transports Hitomi to the mysterious world of Gaea. An odd mixture of advanced technology and medieval culture, Gaea has links to ancient Atlantis. A typical romantic triangle develops, involving Hitomi, diamond-in-the-rough Van and ideal knight Allen Schezar. The saga attains a Byzantine complexity when the trio is captured by Zaibach Emperor Dornkirk--who is actually Sir Isaac Newton. He's at work on a machine that will enable him to create alternate destinies for Gaea. At times, the story by Hajime Yatate and Shoji Kawamori seems to be careening out of control, as Hitomi whines and the supporting characters appear, disappear and undergo radical personality changes. The most serious flaw is the failure of any of the heroes to defeat the evil Dornkirk, who has dispatched murderous doppelgangers, conducted sadistic experiments on kidnapped children and attempted to subjugate an entire planet. But the combination ofteen-age romance, fantastic robot-suits ("guymelefs"), elaborate battles, hystroinic villains and a world-threatening challenge has madeEscaflownea favorite amongotaku. The feature, released theatrically in the US in 2002, repeated much of the story. Rated 13 and up for animated violence.--Charles Solomon』

Wow! I wasn't disappointed! It's alot of history mixed in with vampire lore, which draws you in and make you want to take a closer look. At first, I thought Abel Nightroad(the main character) was just a bumbling priest until I saw him turn into a crusnik. Then, I was like; okay..... I can get into this. The anime is excellent, the story lines draw you in and some of the characters you'd love to hate. If you realy like vampires/vampire hunters, then this may be the anime for you.』
(Good Stuff) 『This is a high quality anime. You have vampires, priests, action, drama, and lots of blood. It is definitely worth getting if you can find it for a good price.』
(A anime with promise, but failed miserably) 『I feel like I'm watching Trigun all over again and this time I hate it.
The one thing I hate about anime is that the keep recycling shows over and over again. Gundam copies from the previous series over and over again. All romance anime copy from each other. I know, I know most people who've watched enough anime already know this. I don't always have a problem with it.
For example Gundam Seed, it copies the almost exact story line from the orginal Mobile Suit Gundam which came out over 20 years ago. I gave it a 8, it gave me a couple of new things to keep me watching. That's what I want from a show that almost copies everything from a differnt anime. Now to a show that doesn't. For example Gundam Seed Destiny. It compies everything from Moble Suit Gundam and Gundam Seed, and does the same thing in every episode with nothing new to the story. It also goes on for another 50 episodes, I mean come on. This show was a complete waste of time. That's why I gave it a 1.
I just need to explain one of the reasons why I am giving Trinity Blood a 1. Trinity Blood is a rip off of Trigun. When Trigun came out in 1998 it was original anime. I've never seen anything like it before then. I gave it 5 stars, and even now it's one of the best anime I've seen, I still watch it at least once a year. Trinity Blood is just Trigun recycled eight years later. Able Nightroad is a exact copy of Vash. He acts the same and has the same past. I truly like the story of a kingdom of Vampires and humans living right beside each other. If they made a anime about that it could have been great, but instead they made it about Able aka Vash, and it turned into crap. I would recommend you skip this show and instead see what Trinity Blood copied from a classic in Trigun.』
(My Favorite anime So far only FLCL comes close.) 『I first fell in love with Trinity blood when it was airing late night on Cartoon Network a few years ago. I finally broke down and bought it this past month and I dont regret it. Who doesn't love a gothic story that flows around the life of a thousand year old guilt ridden post apocalyptic genetically engineered Catholic Vampire Priest Cyborg developed for the Mars colonization project. The main character Able is a wonderful mix of reticent power and the child like playfulness of a kind self confident soul burdened by guilt form past deeds and the determination to atone for his sins.
Trinity blood is an exceptional distillation then blending of Catholicism, idealism, gothic subculture, romanticism, the awe and attraction of fallen ancient civilizations, Technophilia, and humanity. It has oh so many wonderful elements and they fit well together. There is little I can say that hasn't been said in earlier reviews. Except that of all the characters development I would say that Brother Pedro's is the most stunning. Even though he's not as present as the others his first introduction as a single minded religious fanatic known as the "Knight of Annihilation," a man willing to strike down friend or foe in order to "do gods bidding" and the man in charge of the Inquisitorial squad, his slow transition and awakening at the end of the series is one that seems all too rare in real life.
I recommend this series to all my technologically inclined Catholic friends and it's met with warm review. 』
(just wonderfull!) 『Unfortunately there is an end that isn't the real end of this superb history. I hope that in the future (not very far) Abel and all of them will continue to fight in this excellent anime.』 『Vampires and The Vatican?...Holy Hell!
Armageddon... The ultimate sin of humanity, perpetrated upon itself, which cast the shroud of death across the world centuries ago. And out of that lasting darkness, they emerged... From the legends of ancient times, they have been called forth into the world anew... Vampires.
Two races, Terran and Methuselah, human and vampire, are locked in a struggle for existence, trembling on the brink of war. Some seek the path to a peaceful coexistence, while others pursue a dangerous shift in the balance of power… And the world’s enemy, Contra Mundi, is starting to move. Cooperation and goodwill between the two races may be their only chance for survival.
Abel Nightroad, a touring priest for the Vatican, walks calmly where others fear to tread. A member of the formidable AX, tasked with the protection of the fragile equilibrium. Neither human nor vampire, with an awkward yet optimistic nature, this Father is a force wholly his own. When the greater threat emerges, the enemy of my enemy is my friend… And Abel Nightroad seeks a safe path for all.

All 6 volumes of the series
4 collectible tarot cards featuring original Japanese artwork
limited edition 4-volume 24-page insert booklet filled with exclusive information including Japanese cast interviews, concept art, and much more.』
『A mixture of sci-fi and supernatural elements, the 2005 broadcast seriesTrinity Bloodtakes place in the far future, when humans and vampires vie for control of the Earth. Abel Nightroad is an itinerant priest and agent for AX, the covert branch of the Holy Office. But when a real threat appears, he transforms into an uber-beast who feeds on the blood of vampires. As he fulfills his duties, Abel is joined by Sister Noélle (sic) and assorted other agents. The storyline wanders aimlessly: The tale of a series of murders and assaults on cathedrals peters out, and a new narrative about a sinister archbishop's plot to destroy Rome with a "silent noise" device develops. Before that story is resolved, Abel is off to Carthage and Constantinople, where he prevents Department of the Inquisition agents from interfering in delicate negotiations between the Vatican and the Empire. This overwrought fantasy eventually reaches a baroque finale that includes murder victims returning from the dead; aerial battles; CGmecha; creatures who are angelic, demonic, or possibly both dueling in the skies; and a veritable blizzard of symbolic feathers. The combination of gothic fantasy and potentially offensive pseudo-Catholic mumbo-jumbo recallsHellsing(2001), on which the series was obviously modeled. Although it's relentlessly silly and over the top,Trinity Bloodremains popular with fans of vampire anime who prefer flashy visuals to coherent narratives. (The Game of Life) 『This set of Honey and Clover maintains the tone of the first set.
As it begins, Shinobu's departure sends both Yuta and Hagu reeling, their reactions as complicated as money-hungry, generous Shinobu himself. Meanwhile, Takumi finds that he can't have his cake and eat it too when Ayumi starts dating and his decision not to be part of her love life means that he doesn't get to have a say in it.
As those following the series already know, anyone wanting a fast-paced, action-packed story will be disappointed. What Honey and Clover excels at is depicting the pace of everyday life and the interweaving of the Yuta/Hagu/Shinobu and Ayumi/Takumi plots, perhaps on best display in a wonderful little scene between Shinobu and Ayumi. With the exception of some of Shinobu's wilder antics (his reappearance is a comedic classic), much of the series is strikingly realistic; from the job hunts of the older members of the gang to Ayumi's reaction to her Takumi dilemma and Takumi's tightrope walking attempt at turning Ayumi down while still trying to remain close friends with her - all with Yuta remaining the heart and soul of the series as it's narrator as well as a participant.
Although it may not get the attention of flashier series, Honey and Clover continues to deserve notice as one of the best slice-of-life anime.』 『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 12/15/2009 Run time: 300 minutes』

From what I've seen so far, the series sort of just starts in the middle of something so it was a bit hard to understand what is going on until an hour or two into the series. As far as comparrison, I 've only seen the Gundam Wing and the newer series such as Gundam Seed. The sound and picture quality is not as good as the newer series, but not bad either given that it was made 20 yers ago. So far so good. 』
(Don't see what's so great about it) 『Let me start by saying that I'm a huge gundam fan who got into the meta series during the time of Gundam Wing. I was so excited about Gundam that I started looking into every gundam series. After I finished watching Gundam SEED, I saw great reviews about this series so I had to give it a shot. To be honest, I can't see why so many fan regards Zeta Gundam as being the best in the series. I couldn't even finish watching it. I found it to be a complete waste of money. I've heard of many fans putting down other series and praising this one. I'm very disappointed in this series. I found it boring as well as too unbelieveable. Yeah I know it's fiction and all, but still, at least there was more of a scientific basis in SEED. Not someone getting a kick to the forehead and all of a sudden is an almighty newtype. Maybe back in the days this was hot. But I think it either needs modernization or just plainly isn't my cup of tea. I hope Unicorm Gundam is good. Anyway, my opinion is rent the series before you buy it.』

Overall, the series is pretty good. A few 'meh' things are present but overall pretty stable.
The good news is what gundam fans typically want is here, IN SPADES. Lots of new designs for mobile suits, gandams, mobile armors and everything else. It's frankly a huge amount of new stuff for the gundam universe. Solid mech design, check.
The characters are not exactly easy to sympathize with, but that said, they are realistically flawed and interesting to see work, if awkwardly portrayed sometimes. The intercharacter relationships are also, fascinating to see played out but again, a little awkward when put to the motions. ((On side note, just about he whole crew of the white base makes a cameo at some point.))
Even if the series does take itself too seriously sometimes, you, the viewer can just sit back relax and remember 'OMG, did the kid with the girl's name just suckerpunch a dude with and '80's haircut?!'
Oh, a did I mention this was the gundam series that began exploring the human-advanced human relationships that would be the conerstone of Seed and S. Destiny?
The bad: Three words 'nineteen eighties fashion' Sometimes the hair and clothes made me want to slam my head into a computer a laugh, but hey, I probably shouldn't knock the '80s, I didn't have to survive it.
Like I might have mentioned earlier, sometimes it's hard to really get behind the characters motivation, that sometimes drags things down.
The final word: With more plot twists over it's 50 episodes than an M. Night movie, more deep human themes than the original and lots, and I mean lot's more giant fighting robots, Zeta gundam does the good work of any mecha series.
Over all, it feels like a first tentative step after the original gundam into somthing bigger. Something more profound, something... perhaps.... more human than teenagers piloting big metal men.
Regardless of how you slice it, the Zeta complete collection one is the first half a a good, no great, series. And you can tell Shinn Asuka where he got his angsty disposition from.
And, oh yeah, one final note. Those who haven't seen the original gundam should at least take a crash course in the events of the one year war. Zeta is a direct sequel to mobile suit Gundam, so be prepared to hear 'Newtype' and other such terms thrown at you with no explanation. 』
(great) 『this series, like most, doesn't engage you immediately. overall i'd give the series a 4.5/5. by the second box set (which isn't out yet) it gets amazing. i saw seed destiny before zeta and it's so clear now how gsd is an adaptation of this. just this is way better than gsd, because first of all, the story is about kamille, not amuro ray. unlike gsd where kira comes back and nobody gives a crap about shinn. kamille is selfish at first, but there's actually good character development with him throughout the story, and his actions make sense. also people aren't god mode throughout this series. it's old, but the animation is still great and the plot is well worth the watch.』 『In Zeta Gundam, we see the future world of the Universal Century through a dark mirror. Having defeated the Zeon menace, the Earth Federation has itself become cruel and oppressive. A new generation of Gundam mobile suits is created not to fight for peace, but to punish the enemies of the state, and yesterdays villains must become todays heroes in order to balance the scales of justice. And when a young civilian named Kamille Bidan is caught up in the rebellion, he little suspects the price he will pay in the fight for freedom.』 『The initial run ofMobile Suit Gundamflopped in 1979, but the success of the threeGundamfeatures (1981-82) created an audience for Yoshiyuki Tomino’s sprawlingmechaadventure.Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam(1985) was the first broadcast sequel. The story takes place in year 79 of the Universal Century, not long after the One Year War. Like Amuro Ray, the hero of the initial series, Kamille Bidan is a Newtype, a human with exceptional mental powers, including the ability to pilot sophisticated robot suits with no formal training. But Amuro became a pilot by accident when his satellite-home was invaded; Kamille steals the prototype Gundam MK II, throwing his lot in with the rebels of the A.E.U.G. (Anti-Earth Union Group).Zeta Gundamoccupies an interesting place in the history of this long-running continuity: In it, Tomino and his artists began to explore the conflicts between the Newtypes and ordinary humans in greater depth. But the filmmakers were still learning how to create sympathetic characters and a sustained narrative. Kamille isn't a particularly likable hero. He joins the A.E.U.G. struggle against the brutal military cadre the Titans, not because he opposes their plan to subjugate the Earth, but because he got into a fist fight with a Titan officer who made fun of his name. The story rambles as characters appear, disappear and reappear. Menacing new Titan officers arrive, get killed in battle and are replaced with new menacing officers. The Western-looking characters have small heads and misproportioned bodies. Despite these weaknesses,Zeta Gundamremains a significant series. Full of laughs, fights, and the sort of logic that can only exist in anime, this is a must-have for any true fan. Easy watching, and with chapters set up for easy skipping of title sequences.』
(Delightful Space Opera Spoof) 『Irresponsible Captain Tylor captures the best elements of classic science fiction humor with some unusual twists. The traditional elements include the crew of misfits in a battered old destroyer, who (in spite of the odds) survive and frequently triumph over the alien forces and their own somewhat unscrupulous military high command. Irresponsible Captain Tylor provides its unique spin on this sub-genre in the form of Captain Tylor -- young (age 20) with his entire military background consisting of a short stint in the military pension office. The surprisingly well developed and generally sympathetic elf-like aliens wonder whether Tylor is a genius or an idiot. Tylor's crew of misfits in the destroyer Soyokaze decide that while he doesn't embody many (or any) military virtues, he is fun to have around. Tylor is warm-hearted but also magnificently irresponsible.
The series of 26 episodes has a well connected trajectory. Only a few episodes contain pointless filer. Fortunately, the writers left the question "Is Tylor a hidden genius, a lucky idiot, or (perhaps) a bit of both?" unresolved. The result is a surprisingly satifying conclusion.
In the finest tradition of space opera, the laws of phyics are cheerfully ignored. My personal favorite is the flag waiving on the bows of the destroyer Soyokaze in deep space. (The emblem on the flag appears to be a tomato.)
The music is pleasing, with a mix of cheery pop and light jazz. One later episode contains a lengthy space battle choreographed to classical music that is a tour de force.』
(Great anime series!) 『Short review: This is a really, really fun show. The misfit crew of the Soyokaze are among the most memorable characters ever to grace Japanese animation. One of those shows that you just don't want to see come to an end.』 『Justy Ueki Tylor had his life all planned out: join the military, get a cushy desk job, and then retire with a big fat pension check. The perfect plan...until he wandered into a hostage situation and somehow managed to save an Admiral! Now Tylor a man who wouldn t know what discipline was if it bit him in the backside has been made Captain of the space cruiser Soyokaze. The crew of this run-down ship is the craziest, rag-tag team of misfits you re ever likely to see, and they re not too fond of their complacent new leader. But they better learn to work together, because they re about to go head to head with the mighty Raalgon Empire. For better or for worse, the Earth s fate has been placed in the hands of a man who s either a total idiot or an absolute genius!
