(A very good example of Ranma, both good and bad)
『Ranma 1/2 is very well-known among the community of anime fans, particularly in North America. Its manga has sold very well, and the TV Series adheres to much of that. The story centers around Ranma Saotome, a hot-tempered martial artist who finds himself cursed after falling into a hot spring in China. His curse is that whenever cold water touches him, he turns into a girl equivalent of himself (and returns to normal with hot water contact). As if that weren't troublesome enough, he finds himself engaged to Akane Tendo of the Tendo Dojo, where he makes his new home for the entire run of the series. And to top it all off, his unscrupulous father has engaged him to multiple families, usually for mundane reasons like short-term food and money. Hijinks ensue.

The First Season really sets the tone for Ranma 1/2 as a whole, although not all the characters have been introduced by the time of its completion. First, there is the tension between Ranma and Akane. Ranma is hot-tempered, with a macho-sexist view of women due to his lack of experience with them (he spent most of his childhood with his father on a martial arts training trip), and Akane is both hot-tempered, extremely violent, and yet extremely jealous after a certain point in the series. This leads to a succession of misunderstandings and "foot-in-mouth" situations, and the dynamic continues right up to the end of the series.

Second, there is the "other fiancee" situation. One of Ranma's many fiancees shows up in Disc Four, and Ranma quickly develops several rivals that dog him for the entire season. Much of the story is often centered around the attempts by these rivals to find a new way to defeat Ranma.

Third, there is a great deal of soft-core female nudity in the anime. No genitalia, but you get frequent shots of teenage girls' breasts, particularly those of female Ranma, as well as occasionally buttocks shots. This did not bother me, but it might be more problematic for some younger viewers whose parents disapprove of this.

Fourth, and very importantly, Ranma is a HIGHLY episodic show and series. This means that most of the show consists of "one-time" plots that end with the episode, and there is little indication of progression in time within the series other than the appearance of some new characters, and Ranma's acquisition of some new techniques. There are four larger story arcs that appear in the series, but none of these constitute even a significant fraction of the overall series, and none of them are in the first volume.

If you find this humorous (and the series often is quite amusing), I strongly suggest you buy this.』

(What the heck!?!?!)
『I would have given the show more stars, as it is indeed excellent and deserving of praise. BUT, the dvd set of this from Amazon came with a bad disc. My fourth disc is just color bar test patterns. NO EPISODES AT ALL. What a crock and a waste of money. Now i gotta go find the last couple of episodes elsewhere. I hope no one else had this problem. I hope the rest of the seasons dont have this issue.』

(Ranma 1/2 Series Opener!)
『In my opinion this and season 2 are the best seasons of Ranma 1/2. I first watched this series when I was much younger and its still something I can put in the DVD player and watch some 10 years later. Nostalgia for once hasn't failed me.』

(The Season That Started Me Off On The Ranma Universe)
『Before This set I usually had only gotten mecha animes or more serious dramatic anime like Gundam Wing or Hellsing but no funny animes. I got this at almost the same time as the Full Metal Panic box set and was surprised at how entertaining and hilarious this show really was. I think it really helped my anime collection a lot after getting the first season of Ranma since after that I started going after both my previous animes as well as the more funny and light-hearted animes like Azumanga Daioh and Galaxy Angels an the like. Like my previous reviews of the other Ranma Seasons the video is good but not as great as you get with the newer anime shows like Bleach or Full Metal Alchemist the video is full screen with stereo English audio or Japanese audio both voice actors
for both the Japanese or English audio are very good though and most of the episodes are very funny though I liked it when the creators for the show brought in Happosai the very lecherous character in season two. So if your like me and are buying just the serious,dramatic,hard-core animes
I say give this series a try you will not be disappointed...』

(A very entertaining series)
『This box set contains the first eighteen episodes of the classic anime series, Ranma 1/2. There's very little in the way of special features in the set (there's textless versions of the opening and the three ending sequences, and there's also the English credits).

Although this is a rather "no-frills" DVD set, the series itself is quite enjoyable. Normally, I would say the price of this set is a bit high for such a "no-frills" set, but the episodes in and of themselves are worth the cost of the set, especially when you factor in how old the property is now.』

『THE HISTORIC FIRST SEASON!

Now you can own the complete collection of Ranma 1/2, Season 1 for one low price with the Ranma 1/2 Digital Dojo DVD Boxset!

A compilation of the entire first season of Rumiko Takahashi's wildly hilarious martial arts romance comedy! Now you can own the entire historic first season on four disks for one low price!

Romance, comedy, martial arts mayhem, multiple personality changes, devilish dolls, haunted caves, magical phoenixes, evil ogres, legendary monsters and more!

It's not easy being teenage martial artist Ranma Saotome, but it's even worse when your martial-artist father Genma takes you from home at an early age to go on a decade-long training mission. He doesn't speak a word of Chinese, and yet he insists upon bringing you to the cursed training ground known as Jusenkyo, where falling into one of the many springs there instantly turns you into whoever-or whatever-drowned there last. And then, the two of you have this little accident...

From now on, a splash of cold water will turn your father into a giant panda, while you...well, you turn into a red-haired (and problematically well-built) female version of yourself. Hot water will reverse the effect, but only until the next time. What's a half-guy, half-girl to do?

(I recommend this product)
『Super recomiendo este DVD es una de las mejores series que he visto; lastima que sea un poco corta pero la historia es muy interesante y divertida.』

(Cartoon Network should put this on there line up !!!)
『Patlabor is one of the classic anime shows. Its right up there with the other mecha series Gundam and Dai Gaurd but Patlabor has that comedy and drama blended together. Its kinda like if director John Hughes was writing these lol ! No really, this show has it all. A strong storyline and it drifts back and forth changing topics on each episode with the main characters Noa Izumi, and her teammates Asuma and Ota. The less than give a rats ass Captain Goto is a whoot to watch as he deals with his team. I highly suggest this show !』

(Wonderful)
『I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed this anime. I've been trying to open myself up to watching anime that haven't been created recently and Patlabor was one of the older series I decided to watch. I did not expect the animation to be as solid and appealing as it turned out to be. I think it was the opening sequence that really sold me on the character designs. None of the designs are over the top, so you get a sense of a down to earth type of storyline. The opening and closing songs are catchy enough and actually quite enjoyable once you get used to them. If you are expecting flashy looking mecha designs and some kind of deep meaningful storyline you're going to be disappointed. Patlabor's main focus is on the character development and how the different personalities bounce off each other. Patlabor is what Dai-Guard tried to be but failed miserably. If you don't need philosophical ramblings, elaborate mecha battles and colorful character designs to feel entertained you will enjoy this show.』

(Good 1980's anime that stands the test of time)
『The Patlabor series, produced in the late 1980's, is a series about a division of the police force in what was then the future (the late 1990's - early 2000's) that used large mechs/robots (called "labors") to deal with crime involving other mechs. The division, however, is filled with all sorts of oddball characters. The main character is a very cheerful, very willful young policewoman named Noa who loves her mech. The other characters include an overzealous, gun-happy yet somewhat incompetent career policeman; a placid but overly tall policeman who grows tomatoes; a mild, hen-pecked husband who occassionally reveals an explosive temper; an incredibly serious, hard-driven policewoman; and a laid-back yet cunning and mysterious captain.

The series is generally comedy mixed with some mech battles and other action scenes. The first three episodes introduce all of the principle characters; subsequent episodes place the characters in various situations, including playing host to dignitaries, saving a whale, saving people from burning buildings, and investigating monster stories. Many of the episodes focus on humorous personal stories, such as an arraigned marriage or a team trip to go drink sake, that are sometimes more entertaining than the mech battles themselves. Other stories, however, can become more serious; for example, episodes 10 and 11 focus on a mysterious military mech called "Phantom" that black-market arms dealers decide to test in Tokyo.

Since the series is relatively old by anime standards, the animation is not as smooth or as stylized as many newer series. Nonetheless, the animation is still reasonably good. A few of the details in some of the storylines are out-of-date; for example, one story discusses a defector from the now-defunct Soviet Union, and another story refers to mechs made in "West Germany". Despite this, the anime series is still very entertaining.

The subtitled version of this series is fine. The dubbed version, however, sounds awful; the English-speaking voice actors are poorly matched to their characters, and some of the background music is altered.

So, in conclusion, this is a great series even for casual fans of Japanese animation. Everyone will find this series funny. However, people who watch anime dubbed rather than subtitled should not watch this version of the series!』

(Excellent content, but so-so DVD transfer)
『Patlabor is certainly one of the best series of its time. You'll find some great characters here, along with memorable episodes of both drama and comedy. Don't go into this expecting a lot of giant robot battles and explosions, though. Patlabor has a few of those, but this series is mostly about the people, not the robots. If you like character-driven anime, this is the series for you.

The first few episodes of this DVD set aren't quite the best Patlabor has to offer, but the series finds its feet very quickly, so much so that this set has some of the best of the 47 episode run of this series. The two-part plot of "Eve's Trap" and "Eve's Shudder" will please action fans, and "Ota's Afternoon of Puzzlement", "You Win!", and "Captain Goto is the Target" are some of the funniest episodes of Patlabor. The rest of the episodes on the disc are also great.

The DVD transfer is just about average, though. There aren't many obvious video or audio errors, but the menus are a bit lacking, and the extras are weak. The subtitles are also slightly off. They miss almost all of the onscreen text, making a few scenes hard to understand if you can't read Japanese. Unfortunately, this DVD version is also saddled with a terrible English dub. As if overacting and cheesy delivery weren't enough, most of the actors can't seem to properly pronounce the characters' names. A real shame, especially considering the sterling quality of the original Japanese voice acting. Be sure to watch this one with subtitles!

All in all, I give this DVD set 5 stars for content, and three for presentation. It's too bad that Central Park Media didn't spend more time on the production for these DVDs... but this set is still the best way by far to see this classic series, so don't hesitate to buy.』
『The adventure begins! In the not-too-distant future, girl-next-door Noa Izumi begins her job as a pilot for the police force's famous giant robots. Within days, she's faced with a pack of crazy crewmates and the adventure of a lifetime! Boxed set contains the first four volumes of this groundbreaking series.』
『Masami Yuuki's serial mangaMobile Police Patlaborwas set in a not-too-distant future when heavy physical work is performed by giant robots calledLabors. As the robots also get involved in accidents and crimes, the Tokyo police force needsPatlabors("Patrol Labors" elided) to handle them. The 47-episode broadcast series (actually the follow-up to a 7-part OVA) retains its freshness and good humor. Determined to succeed as a robot pilot, perky Noa Izumi joins the crew of oddballs who make up Special Vehicles Division 2: thoughtful Asuma Shinohara, no-nonsense New York Police officer Clancy Kanuka, loud-mouth Isao Ota, and understated Captain Goto. Less heroic thanGundampilots but more serious than theDai-Guardcrew, these misfits interact in ways that suggest a comic version ofHill Street Blues.

Their assignments range from rescuing a government minister and saving an ancient tree to thwarting terrorists and guarding a winter carnival. Captain Goto observes dryly that the robots "have been called everything from jokes to money pits to piles of useless waste." But when a military experiment runs amok or a mutant monster gets loose in a forest, Division 2 is there to save the day--even if others get the credit for their work. The 18 episodes in this collection offer the combination ofmechaadventure and ensemble comedy that have madePatlaborsuch a popular franchise. (great buy)
『i love this series. my disc 1 works fine, all works well actually. the quality is good, but the intro is for the japanesse version. could have included the english in at least one of the episodes. an excellent buy regardless.』

(Great Price, decent Anime)
『Saw this show on TV back when I was 10. As far as I remember it never completed an entire U.S. run so I was blown away to find out it was on DVD.

The show is great, the animation has areas where it drops in quality (as in because of the animators not the DVD encoding)and there was an episode where the dialogue got too quiet but it's an early 90's anime to DVD so not a big deal in my opinion. Just a note, this is the International English dub, not the TV dub, so those like me who saw it when they were kids may notice some dialogue changes.

All in all, an entire 6 Disc anime series plus nostalgia for 18$? You can't beat that.』

(Great Value!)
『For [...] bucks (from Amazon's Marketplace), the 6 DVD (43 episode) set was well worth it. I only had a video hiccup at the end of disc 1, but after 30 seconds, the DVD resumed its normal operation and I was able to finish the last episode.

If you enjoyed the series as a kid in the 90's - you will enjoy the series again. And plus, if you are like me, you forgot most of the plot lines anyway :-) Enjoy!』

(Teknoman with a Tekkaman touch)
『Ok, what we get here is a new edition of Teknoman. It has the Japanese intro, but the episodes are Saban's Teknoman english dub. Also, this version is uncensored, and there are some scenes from Tekkaman wich are included, for example the final fight with Sabre is an extended version, just like Tekkaman Blade is.

I grew up with the Spanish versión, which aired in Latin America. That's why Teknoman is one of my favorite anime. This collection is highly recommended to anyone who watched Teknoman years ago. Enjoy!』

(One of the most underrated series.)
『Well, actually I bought it on another store, but I must say that, without a doubt, this is one of the most underrated series I've ever seen.

The release here is really good, and I found no problems with the show (despite other warnings to skip some episodes over).

Performances in the dub are pretty good too. Bauman and a young, future GHer Parsons are good in their roles. Same goes for the supporting cast.

It was a good series all in all! 5/5』

(Extremely likable but uneven and terribly flawed sci-fi fan favorite series.)
『In the mid 1970's, prior to obtaining his well-deserved status as Japan's greatest animator ever, a young Hayao Miyazaki was hired by Japanese movie giant Toho to develop ideas for TV series. One of these concepts was "Around the World Under the Sea", based on Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," in which two orphan children pursued by villains team up with Captain Nemo and his mighty submarine, the Nautilus. Although it was never produced, Toho nonetheless kept the rights to the story outline. Miyazaki would reuse elements from his original concept in later projects of his, most notably a terrific 1986 action-adventure feature called CASTLE IN THE SKY. Ten years later, in the mid-1980's, animation studio Gainax was commissioned to produce an original Anime series to be broadcast on television network NHK. Under the direction of a brilliant but angst-ridden artist known as Hideaki Anno, the studio selected Miyazaki's concept, and crafted an engaging story set in a steampunk 1889 France, with interesting characters, amazing animation (for its time), and a mixture of comedy, romance, mystery, and drama. The result was NADIA: THE SECRET OF BLUE WATER, which has since become a worldwide fan favorite.

The story begins at a Paris World Exposition Fair where Jean, a nerdy but charming and instantly loveable inventor boy of fourteen, becomes smitten with a pretty, dark-skinned girl his own age. The girl, known as Nadia, is an unhappy circus acrobat with no clue about her past other than a jeweled necklace she wears. After rescuing her from a trio of comic bandits (the Grandis Gang) Jean earns Nadia's trust. The two set off on an even bigger adventure to find Nadia's birthplace, which supposedly lies in Africa. Along the way, they have run-ins with a supercharged submarine commanded by the mysterious Captain Nemo and his pretty but overprotective first officer Electra as well as a shadowy cult of Nazi-like masked soldiers known as Neo-Atlanteans led by the misanthropic, sinister Gargoyle, who wants Nadia's pendant at any cost. In the course of their around-the-world adventure, Jean and Nadia adopt an orphaned little girl, Marie, who senses that her new guardians will become more than just close friends. Although Nadia's explosive temper poses problems, Jean's patience and loyalty keeps their relationship afloat, and her growing love for the boy gradually transforms her as a person.

NADIA has all the makings of a classic series: a well-rounded cast of characters, unforgettable sequences, and a long, involving action adventure. There is a distinctive "Miyazaki-esque" style to the visual designs of the leads, yet only Jean seems to emerge as a Miyazaki creation. Which is arguably what makes him the most lovable character in the whole show. It's easy to see why Nadia finds herself falling for him--who wouldn't want to be with a boy as intelligent, genuinely compassionate, and impossibly generous as Jean? While he does display clumsiness in terms of social graces around the opposite sex, it only makes him all the more appealing as a character. Nadia herself, by contrast, is not always loveable. In addition to having serious anger management issues, she also has unbending and irrational principles about killing, eating meat, or trusting grown-ups. She does, however, display courage and, as mentioned, finds herself growing to care for Jean. Actually, Anno has said that he created Jean and Nadia based on his "light" and "dark" sides.

For all its assets, however, NADIA suffers from one fatal flaw that prevents it from being the classic it aims to be--it does not always stay afloat. The first twenty-two episodes are old-fashioned adventure at its best, with humor, young love, traumatic situations which involve death, and compelling, engrossing mysteries as we learn about Nadia, the Nautilus, and the Atlanteans. Midway through, it devolves into a painfully dull, unengaging, haphazard, incoherent Saturday morning cartoon, with warped characterizations, sloppy animation, and even worse concepts for episodes totally devoid of imagination or credibility. (In all fairness, these dreadful episodes weren't supposed to have existed; distributor NHK requested that they be made after the show became a smash hit in Japan.) The final five episodes return the show to its roots of appeal and deliver a satisfying finale, but it's hard to compensate for the damage that has been done.

For their part, however, ADV Films deserves a shout-out for their work on bringing this series to American audiences. The visual and aural transfers are competently done, but it's their translation that really shines. The English dub, a wonderful achievement for the now defunct Austin-based Monster Island studios, is notable for casting three actual children in the roles of Jean, Nadia, and Marie--Nathan Parsons (12), Meg Bauman (14), and Margaret Cassidy (11), respectively. For inexperienced youngsters, all three do exceptional jobs, and are amply supported by an excellent cast of adults, particularly Sarah Richardson, Corey Gagne, Martin Blacker (as the Grandis Gang) as well as Jennifer Stuart (Electra), and Ev Lunning Jr. (Nemo). All show liveliness and enthusiasm for the characters and give the performances of their careers. Ditto for the use of genuinely believable accents--it adds a national flavor to the characters (although Jean's sometimes shaky French dialect takes some getting used to).

Is NADIA a complete waste of time? Not at all; as mentioned, the characters are fully-realized, and for twenty-two episodes and the final five, the show does indeed deliver an entertaining, consistently engaging adventure story with just the right amount of heart, humor, and drama. It's just too bad that it goes downhill in the second half (despite delivering a phenomenal conclusion). Otherwise, this series would truly be worthy of the praise it receives as one of the greats. The best way to appreciate NADIA is to view episodes 1-22, then 31 (the only "filler" episode to have any genuine plot development), and finally 35-39. It'll surely provide a more pleasing experience.』

『The World's Fair, Paris 1889: Young inventor Jean crosses paths with an enigmatic girl named Nadia and her pet lion, King, on the run from a trio of villains attempting to stealing the Blue Water - a mysterious jewel Nadia wears around her neck. So begins a quest that will take them around the world and through many, many adventures.』
『Based loosely on Jules Verne's20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the sci-fi-fantasyNadia, Secret of Blue Water(1990) opens at the Paris Exposition of 1889. Jean Ratlique, a young inventor and aspiring aviator, rescues Nadia, a circus acrobat, and her lion cub King from three robbers after her mysterious blue necklace. This exciting introduction leads to adventures in exotic settings, including the South Pole, Oceana, and Africa. In addition to encountering Captain Nemo and theNautilus, Nadia, King, and Jean visit the 12,000-year-old remains of the Atlantean Empire.Secret of Blue Waterboasts an impressive pedigree: Hayao Miyazaki proposed the idea as a young animation artist, and the first 22 episodes were directed by Hideaki Anno, the creator ofNeon Genesis Evangelion. It's interesting to see how Miyazaki developed the combination of a heroine of unknown origin, a mysterious gem, a young aviator, and a lost civilization more fully inCastle in the Sky, and how some of the Atlanteans' science prefigures themes inEvangelion. But the story stalls when Nadia, Jean, and their friends are shipwrecked on a tropical island: the filmmakers just mark time until the villains reappear and main plot picks up. Nadia is a rare example of a heroine of color in anime, and her fervent defense of animal rights demonstrates her unusual strength of character. But she can also seem priggish and self-righteous when she bullies Jean and berates people who've saved her life.Secret of Blue Waterremains a fan favorite almost two decades after its release, as its adventurous storyline appeals to audiences of both sexes. Anyways this anime is really about nothing more than a bunch of girls in school who have a young teacher. It's full of little random things that pop up and overall is one of those animes that you don't have to worry about following.

Sorry for the short post.....』

(If you've watched everything else...)
『This isn't a horrible series, but there really isn't anything special about it either. It's an anime comedy and if it differs from other anime comedies in any way it's only in how spastic the series is. If they made an anime for people can't pay attention this would be it! It's like Family Guy (which I love) in that the scene changes every thirty second, except here there are no cool clips with jokes to go along with the changes. But to be fair this anime is probably intended for 12 to 17 year olds (regardless of the rating) so I can't be to mad that the show misses with someone in there late twenties (me). I was hoping for "School Rumble" and got stiffed, but if you enjoy comedies with no overall story or plot this is for you. You could honestly start watching the series beginning with any episode at random and you'd be good to go. Paniponi Dash is a good buy if your just looking to get an anime fix, but if you want substance look elsewhere. P.S. If you do buy, by the end of the show you'll never want to here the word Maho again.』

(Crabs, Maho, Gigantic Foreheads, and more in this Hilarious Series)
『There is not really much to say about the series. If you ever want a Artificial Hilarious High watch this show. It is very hilarious from episode one and thats what kept me hooked throughout the whole series. The series ending is kinda meh but it's humor doesn't slow down. Basically the Story is around this 10 year old girl who managed to Graduate from MIT and decided to Teach in A Japanese high school as a teacher. she also has this weird bunny, thing, That keeps getting Abused 24/7 in the whole show. The Girls in the class are mainly the generic smart girl but has a gigantic forehead, Mentally Derranged woman who can't stop thinking about King Crab and keeps spewing out the word "Mahou" or something like that while loving on the teacher too much. Normal kid who gets picked on for being normal. A girl conviently named 6 for some reason who is quite generous. Green haired girl who works at some chineese resturant and loves to scare The teacher to death, and last but not least, the Class President Ichijo. Ichijo is about the most random person you can ever think up. Along with her sister she instantly becomes my favorite charater of the whole show.

There's also aliens that Watch over The whole thing and they have pretty good skits.

Side charaters are also well written to like God AKA that Weird cat in the Vending machine, The other teachers, Etc.

Watch it. You will love it if your Into random hilariousness or if your inner child never dies for some reason.

(The smartest choice to see entire TV series...without extras and the new OVA)
『Buying this set is the smartest choice to see entire "Paniponi Dash!" TV series, absolutely.
The price you have to pay par one episode is only $2.42, and I strongly think you'll enjoy seeing!

But, this set has no extras such as clean-close OP/ED, and, I guess it is the most important thing, it lacks the new OVA episode released as the bonus of the Japanese edition of this set on April 15, 2009.

Amazon.co.jp says the Japanese edition costs you JPY 21,756, about $220.00, excluding the shipping fee.
Well, which do you think is better?』

(Very enjoyable)
『This series is a favorite of mine. One warning, though, don't bother watching the final 4 episodes, they are the worst of the collection. That's what kept me from giving it 5 stars instead of 4. But it's worth buying and watching, Go Pani Poni Dash!』
『The girls of Momotsuki Academy's Class 1-C are starting their tenth grade year with a brand-new teacher. The good news? The teacher is an MIT grad. The bad news? She's only 11 years old! So, while Becky Miyamoto may be an intellectual titan, this child prodigy is painfully ill-equipped to deal with a group of tempermental teens, especially THIS group. There's the bitchy heather, the ADD spazz, the angry nerd, the identical twins, the invisible girl, the freaky class president, the drama geek, the Nancy Drew™, the gamer, and the princess! Whew! As if that weren't enough mayhemic potential, add a pathetic, perpetually abused stuffed bunny and idiotic aliens watching her every move. It's no wonder Becky's prone to crying fits, tirades, and flipping the class the bird. Now all 26 episodes of this classroom comedy that sets a new high score for zaniness and laugh-out-loud wackiness have been brougth together in one complete collection. Paniponi Dash!』

(Great series! -- 4.5 stars!)
『I totally agree with the reviewer "Kayuga;" Peach Girl was horrific, but tolerable. Nana is much better, but I wish more music scenes were incorporated into this series. I mean, it's great for reminiscing, but Nana is a great rock star (which we don't see much of today in the music scene!) and I want to really hear her sing more songs! Volume 3 comes out February 2nd, so maybe I'll get my wish!

This anime series DVD set is great for those who are 20-something, or girlfriends who want to get together and reminiscence about their college days gone by...』

(I am loving this series!!!)
『This is a very awesome series!!! I just love it!!! If I could choose which Nana I would be... it has to be the one who's the rock star! I can't wait until the next boxset comes out!!!!』

(A great Josei anime)
『For any of you who may have suffered through the ridiculous train wreck that was the Peach Girl anime, Nana is a fresh breath of air. Yes there's pretty clueless girls, and plenty of hot guys, and yes there's lots of drama. but it's all done better. The animation is better. The voice acting is better, the characters are more developed and real. It is kind of paced slow, it starts at the present time and then spends 6 episodes giving u their back story of the year before they all moved to Tokyo. The only bad episode is where u see basically the entire first episode all over again, but with smaller new parts added. that was kind of cheap, but its off to a great start. It follows the manga pretty faithfully, and so everything is gone into detail..maybe a little bit too much. and sadly at episode 11 things are really starting to take off, but that's where this dvd collection cuts off. My ouran host club collections have at least 13 episodes and i think they could have at least given us two more episodes for the price they are asking. Nana is a great story, and it is a rollercoaster, things don't always work out they way u think they will. If u like, drama, love, sex and lots of rock'n roll then Nana is for u!
also, i got a sweet guitar pick with Nana O.'s tattoo on it. very cool. check this one out ladies!!』

『Two girls with the same name leave their old lives behind and come to Tokyo to start fresh--what adventures await these two hopeful young women under the bright lights of the big city? Nana Osaki wants nothing more than to make it big as the singer of a rock 'n' roll band, while Nana Komatsu wants to put her life in motion and get her new relationship off to a good start. When the two Nanas fall in love with the same apartment, they become roommates and then best friends, and the party has just begun!』

(I'm satisfied with this series.)
『This finally completes my Tenchi collections. I like the tie together in the end of the series very much. Of course, like other Tenchis the story seems to reset itself while keeping the same characters for the most part. Anyway, I'm glad to have all the Tenchi sets xD.』

(my favorite)
『This is not the second or the last, its the third. Apparently the other people haven't watched all of them. I really enjoyed this series it's not the same but i think that was a good thing watching the same storyline over and over would just get old i think the first 3 series (Tenchi muyo, Tenchi universe, and Tenchi in tokyo) are all worth buying tho im not sure about GXP they seemed to go way out there replacing characters.』

(New face of the Tenchi Muyo Series)
『This is the second version of Tenchi Muyo TV series. Different from the original OVA collections and the first TV version, this anime seems like a face lift. By using the theme and background of the characters of the original OVA collections, a new type of production in introducing Tenchi Muyo anime can be seen. It is more funny. There is a little change in each of the characters as well. The strong point is you can have a new experience in viewing Tenchi Muyo. Tenchi Muyo series has been exisiting for a very long period; from the original OVA collections, the first TV series and movies, no one is not familiar with this anime. If identical theme, stories etc continue, it might have become tasteless and clumsy. This anime is worth of viewing.』

(Great series.)
『This is the last part of the Tenchi series. The animation has changed a bit but it still has all the laughs of the last 2 series.』

(Better than i thought)
『I got this set knowing that everyone said it suck really bad so i wasent exspecting much so a watched it its pretty good its pretty funny its not like the other tenchi's but its a pretty good series adn if your a hardcore tenchi i would get it』
『Tenchi is moving to Tokyo! A new life for Tenchi means the end-of-the-world to the alien girls!
Tenchi Masaki leaves the country to go to Tokyo and to train to be his grandfather's successor as a shrine master. Of course, the girls can't be quiet about their abandonment! Thanks to Washu's new invention, the Inter-dimensional tunnel, a long distance family life starts. Meanwhile in Tokyo, Tenchi is approached by a cute classmate, Sakuya, who doesn't know the risks of being Tenchi's girlfriend.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(Average yet fun and engaging...)
『Kyo Kara Maoh! I won't summarize the story because, chances are, you've probably read the other reviews. So, let's talk about the product.

Kyo Kara Maoh is the kind of anime that you watch during your early teen years. It is like anime shows that comes out on tv during Saturday mornings. Not too complex, but not overly simplistic. It has a variety of genres but it is mainly comprised of fantasy and humour.

The packaging is great. It contains 5 nice thin packs (however thin pack #3-4 are ugly because they won't close) housing the 9 discs containing the 39 episodes of the first season.

The story is average - boy travels to another world and saves it - but it has a little twist added to it. It develops very slowly but the humour helps you get by. However, the humour gets annoying at times and ruins good serious moments. Nevertheless, it is engaging and is quite fun to watch. So, if you are looking for a deep anime, this anime will not satisfy your tastes.

The animation is okay/average/bland. It doesn't give you much "______" to your eyes. Sometimes, the mouth is the only thing moving in a frame. It's not on par with the other animes when it comes to animation. As I've said earlier, it is just like an anime made for saturday mornings. However, it is passable and gets better over time.

The music varies from boring, good, and average. But it doesn't get irritating. You'll get accustomed to it.

Overall, if you prefer an anime with a great story/animation/music, this anime is defenitely not for you. But if you want an anime for the sake of watching an anime, Kyo kara moah! is for you because it is fun and engaging. I usually buy animes for their story (i.e. Death note, samurai 7), but I gave this anime a chance and I'm glad I did because I quite enjoyed it.

3 1/2 stars.』

(As Fun as it is Strange)
『You could certainly be forgiven if you were initially suspicious of any title that opens with the premise of a schoolboy getting a "swirly". In case you aren't familiar with the technique, it is one in which a bully or group of bullies take a weaker individual, flip them upside down, dip their face into the toilet and flush. In normal circumstances, aside from being terribly unhygienic, the only long-term affect to the victim is a bit of a tall, twisted hairdo. Believe it or not, Kyo kara Maoh! Opens with our lead character on the receiving end of one such tactic only rather than simply twisting his do, this toilet happens to be a transporter to a magical realm. We don't even want to know if it worked on the same principle for countless not-so-pleasant flushes, but either way...

Released in full season collections, Funimation is once again bringing the Geneon classic title to the masses. At the time of this review's writing both the first and second volume have been released. The first box set (Season 1) contains 39 episodes across nine discs (thin packs within a very attractive cardboard slipcase). The second box set consists of the 37 episodes that constitute the complete second season but since this review if of the first release, let's stick to those specs for now.

The collection comes in at a whopping 975-minute runtime and packs a nice host of special features. Among these are a conceptual art and image gallery, textless themes, memory slideshow, promos, and previews for upcoming Funimation releases.

Language options are of the sub&dub variety; original Japanese dialog and English dub each presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 and the choice of English subtitles below either.

The show wears an appropriate13&Up rating. Appropriate because while there's nothing extremely offensive for the youngsters, it's quite possible that children around the age of 13 will get the most entertainment out of the multitude of gags presented here (after all, its doubtful they would have needed my above definition of a swirly).

The story goes something like this: Yuri Shibuya happens upon a new and wild world once bullies stick his head in the toilet. After encountering some nobles and discovering that the world as he knew it was no more, our hero discovers that he's the long-awaited Demon King (and here you thought he had it bad enough just surviving high school).

It turns out that in this new world (called the "Great Demon Kingdom"), humans are the enemy and though considered a human in our world, Yuri is classified as a demon there. Not just any demon at that; but rather the one who could balance out the tension between the humans and the demos.

After a brief return to Earth, Yuri is forced to contemplate which world is more to his liking. Long story short, thus begins young Yuri's reign as Demon King. Did I mention that magic is a fact of life in the Demon Kingdom but the catch is it only works in the thralls of battle? Yuri will learn these things just as the viewer does and more often than not: it's too little, too late.

If your still with me after all of this, let me just say that it was all be completely and hopelessly ridiculous except for one redeeming quality; It's pretty darn funny at times.

Kyo kara Maoh! has the distinction of combining fantasy elements with comedic charm to such accord that it harkens back to some of Monty Python's earlier works. Each episode is driven along by a fantasy inspired plot structure (find the magic sword, figure out a way to get back home, learn how to cast spells, etc.) but actually consists of dozens of silly humorous moments to connect the grander dots. Need examples? Well Yuri ends up accidentally getting himself engaged to be married (to another man) by the second episode, encounters some jiggly sumo wrestlers, pirates in schoolgirl uniforms, and gets up close and personal to a g-string by the fifth episode!

The offbeat and prevalent humor presented here depends heavily on its cast of characters. Luckily it works, much to the credit of the show's writers. Wolfram's snappish attitude makes a great counterpoint to Yuri's easygoing nature. The women aren't forgotten either, take Celi (the former Demon Queen) and her forceful personality and the eccentric inventor Anissina who has more tricks up her sleeve than a Vegas poker pro.

The music works really well with upbeat rock beats in the lighter moments that switch subtly to orchestral scores when the tension goes to red alert phase. Geneon's dub, though pale to the efforts of Funimation's more recent stuff, maintains the comedic intentions of the program. The script, however, does take a few ugly twists in effort to "Americanize" some of the jokes and puns. It is serviceable if you've only experienced the show in English but starts to lose ground once you compare it to the original Japanese script.

In all, this is a show that could be considered an instant classic or a blend of sheer strangeness depending entirely upon your mood going in. The fantasy elements work really well in both languages and the humor is equally addicting (especially in the Japanese version). However, if you were seeking a well plotted, fantasy adventure, you would probably better off looking into the much-less gimmicked One Piece series.

I came in not knowing what to expect and came out quite amused. It's silly for sure, but sometimes that's exactly what you were looking for, even if you didn't know it.』

(An interesting start to a good show)
『Kyo Kara Maoh is the story of Yuri Shibuya (or Shibuya Yuri if you're watching in Japanese) a 15 year old high school student who gets sucked into an alternate world. And yes, he gets there through a toilet the first time. But stay with me here. Yuri awakens in a medieval type village and is informed shortly thereafter that he is the new Demon King (the Maoh of the title). It seems that Yuri, with his black hair and black eyes, is an extremely rare type in this world. He also has incredible magical abilities that he never knew about. Included in the story are conflicts between the humans and demons, unusual creatures (flying skeletons anyone?), swordfighting, a reluctant king, and a healthy dose of humor. Actually some of the side stories are downright silly. But despite it all Kyo Kara Maoh is a really great show.
Season one starts off well and treads water for a while in the middle but it ends on a high note. A few filler episodes are to be expected when one season has 39 episodes so it's forgiveable. Filler aside, it's really grown on me. The main plot that's begun in season 1 carries over through all of season 2. It works out in a very interesting way too despite a slightly slow start. I can't recommend it enough. I'm also biding my time until the Season 2 set is available and holding out hope that Season 3 will be released for the English speakers eventually too.
Kyo Kara Maoh has a great cast of characters and has a fun sense of humor. It's also suprisingly little kid friendly. With a bit of editing, even younger kids can enjoy it which is nice. Most anime is really not child friendly so it's always good to find one that is.
Now for the details of the set: Season one is 39 episodes which are split into 9 different discs. The discs are packed into slim line cases, two to a case (except for the 9th which is by itself). As with all slim line cases, the discs are liable to pop out of the cases but the packaging is otherwise pretty nice. The cases include the original cover art from the previous set (this is a rerelease) and list the episode names with a few screenshots. All of this fits into a box which is a little on the thin side but keeps them together and neat all the same. And all 9 discs have both Japanese and English audio along with subtitles. They also include a few extras like slide shows and trailers for other shows. So the pricetag might be a little high but you get a lot of show for your money. You hardly even need any extras.
Oh and I have to say, the Japanese audio is way better than the English dub for this show. I watched most of season 1 in English the first time around and couldn't stand Wolfram (Yuri's accidental fiance. Yes, a man. In the Great Demon Kingdom they do that). Many of the voices are better in Japanese so I recommend watching it that way. Plus if you're a fan of the Gravitation anime, Gunther shares a voice with Yuki Eiri.』

『Yuri is an average baseball-loving high school student. One day, Yuri tries to save his former classmate froma group of hoodlums. Turning on him, they drag Yuri into the bathroom and push his face into the toilet. When they flush the toilet, he is transported to another world. Yuri is taken to a castle and crowned King of the Demon World! Is he going to end up as the leader of the land, surrounded by his extraordinarily handsome lieges or will he make his way back home?

(The Brak Show, Vol. 1)
『Basically, if you like any part of Space Ghost, Brak Show, or the ATHF group, you will get a kick out of this. Its a good dvd to have with friends, especially one to pop in when looking for a good laugh.』

(The Brak Show)
『Bought 1&2 together, and couldn't stop watching until I had seen every episode. I only wish there were more!!』

(Very enjoyable Adult Swim offering!)
『Space Ghost has become quite the cult icon, almost a subculture within a subculture, so much so that one of the characters, Brak, has his own spinoff series with another SG icon, Zorak. The result is a mixture of 'Leave it to Beaver' meets 'I Love Lucy' (thanks primarily to Brak's father) meets 'The Flintstones' meets a blender, some cartoon violence and sub-standard humor, plus a constant barrage of musical interludes. The end result is not only an homage to both Space Ghost and the family-friendly sitcoms of the 1950's, but a unique and sometimes cerebral show that stands up on its own.

Perhaps we have grown tired of the Simpsons, or their emulators, and the numerous soapy situation comedies that seems to infect the airwaves like a virus. True, there are some winners (including, I think, the Simpsons), but it is always refreshing to take a step back from time to time to mock our media output with slight biting sarcasm, a touch of tribute, and mostly blatant mockery. The Brak Show offers this quite nicely.

A fifth star might have been added were the show to take a few more chances with itself and its subject matter. It seems to leave the viewer always wanting just a little bit more in terms of its tributes to classic TV favorites (and some not-so-favorite). I think the show's creators have done a wonderful job with this offering, and I thoroughly enjoy watching it over and over (it does have great replay value). Still, I just feel that they stopped right at the edge of doing something a little better. Bravo for what they did come up with, though!

The special features are somewhat extensive, and rather enjoyable to watch. I also like that Adult Swim did not slap their branding all over this DVD or the materials therein. There is hardly and advertising for other works of theirs, which I did appreciate. While I am an avid AS fan, I still believe that excessive marketing is a turn-off, especially in regards to a counter-culture experiment! This DVD is a refreshing offering, in those regards.

I would not recommend this for the youngest of kids, but there is little profanity (and nothing severe when harsher words are used; none of the 4-letter words that turn off some parents). There is a good deal of cartoon violence (Zorak tends to get blown up a lot), but no bloodshed and nothing that is realistially mimicable by today's children. I would feel comfortable letting those aged 8 and up watch this collection freely, though. Parents should get a great kick out of the obscure 'adult humor' as well (nothing overt, have no fear).

Bottom line, this is a great addition to any AS fan's collection, as well as lovers of animated comedy, fans of 50's primetime comedies, those who are looking for something different, and also a fairly family-friendly experience.』

(Delightfully stupid)
『If you like what I call "stupid humor", you'll love Brak! If Adult Swim's comedy appeals to you, check this set out.』

(The last time I was this happy, I was face down in a pizza pie, eating my way to freedom!)
『Ok, it's very simple, I'm going to assume that you liked The Brak Show and that is why you are interested in buying the DVD. If you have never been introduced to that very special boy, then you have some catching up to do. That is if you enjoyed the other Adult Swim "Random-Comedy-That-Doesn't-Make-A-Lick-Of-Sense" line-up, then Brak might just be the funniest thing you will ever see.
It's very simple, I understand why alot of people are not interested in this type of comedy, and thats cool. But for some of us it's the funniest stuff on TV.
Anyway the DVD is awesome, Brak sings every menu to you and sometimes I think its funnier then the actual show. You get a bunch of Cartoon Planet and Space Ghost Coast to Coast extras...and theres even commentary! (The commentary is actually very lame and a waste of time.)
But all the rest is awesomeness. I haven't watched all of season two but I think this one might have been when Brak was at his best. And its a great DVD so, I'd recommend it.』

『What happens when two adults get together and have children? And what if those children grow up and go to school? That's the just-crazy-enough-to-work premise behind "The Brak Show." Also, Brak is in it.

『Long before his stint as an intergalactic pirate, and later, as an addled sidekick to Space Ghost onCartoon PlanetandSpace Ghost: Coast to Coast, Brak was just a naïve, feline-esque kid living with his parents, his pal/nemesis, the evil mantis Zorak, and a massive warrior robot neighbor in the suburb of Spacetown. Fourteen of his misadventures have been compiled on this weird and frequently hilarious two-disc set, which also features a bundle of extras, all highlighted by Brak’s irrepressible need for song. Written and produced bySG: CTCwriters Jim Fortier and Pete Smith, and featuring several performers from that series as well (including Andy Merrill as Brak, C. Martin Croker as Zorak, and George Lowe as Brak’s Dad),The Brak Showechoes its predecessor’s penchant for absurd, stream-of-consciousness comedy; episodes hinge around Brak putting on a musicial ("Psychoklahoma," featuring Charo!), rescuing his mom from a lovesick alien blob ("Mobab"), a staring contest ("The Eye"), and using a time machine to finish his homework ("Time Machine").If the premises seem too silly for words, the writing and performances (especially Merrill and Croker) are both giddy and clever, and in a very odd way, accurately evoke the anything-goes imagination of pre-teens. The show’s credit sequences, which spoof popular sitcoms from the past (Laverne and Shirley,Petticoat Junction), add another layer of quirky charm.

Volume 1 compiles the entire first season ofThe Brak Show, and tosses in three episodes from Season 2 for good measure (the episodes are presented out of their broadcast order); commentaries by Smith, Fortier, Merrill and Brak himself are featured on three episodes, while an odd audio-only radio play of an unaired pilot is heard over a fourth. Clips from his short-lived variety show,Brak Presents The Brak Show Starring Brak, and a terrific 20-minute barrage of his best moments fromCartoon PlanetandSG: CTC, round out the extras. So much Brak in a single package may be too much for the casual fan, but for the Brak obsessive in your life, this will be comedy nirvana.--Paul Gaita
