Yet it lacked the emiotional stife of the other two series. I recomended it but you should get both Full Metal Panic! and Full Metal Panic! The Second Riad collections as well to get the whole story.』
(Not the Full Metal Panic you're used to but still good stuff) 『If you have watched the first full metal panic and are craving for more action, this probably won't satisfy your appetite (check out FMP The Second Raid). If you saw the first season of full metal panic, and you enjoyed the antics of Souske and Chidori in the class room, then you'll enjoy the Fumoffu series very much.
This series for the most part is pretty light hearted and mostly just school boy antics(kind of like the "School Rumble" anime). It's mostly about Souske adapting to the normal life of a highschooler while still palying the role of a mercenary. It's good for a couple laughs but if your a Tessa and Melissa fan like I am, then you'll be in for a let down as they only appear in a few episodes. The Fumoffu series is only 12 episodes long so it comes and goes very quickly. It actually fills more or less like your watching "filler" episodes that should have been mixed in with the main series, but was kicked out and just turned into a seperate series all together. Nonetheless it is still great to watch.
There are only a few problems I had with the series. The first problem is that it is short, so there really is no main story to follow. It's more or less a collection of mini stories. This is ok, but it doesn't really advance Souske's relationship with Tessa or Kaname, so your still left hanging on that one. The second problem is that some of the scenarios are just typical anime scenes that you've seen 100 times before. Like the infamous "Hot Springs" episode where the boys try to take a peek at the girls and end up in a world of pain. How about the "secret admirer" when someone unkown likes a main character and it doesn't work out well in the end. Oh and how can I forget the "under dog story" where a sorry school team has to toughen up to defeat their rivals? Yeah, it's all pretty much there in Fumoffu. It's probably what doesn't make it stick out so much like it should, but it is Full Metal Panic, and it does put that Souske spin on things which makes it worth watching.
Overall If your a fan of Full Metal Panic it's worth buying for your collection. If not I'd look for it onsale. It's good, but can be skipped if highschool comedies are not your thing.』
(hilarious) 『I personally enjoy the school comedy aspect of FMP more than the mech/battle part so Fumoffu was a blessing. Gut busting comedy in every episode, a couple episodes later on get a bit too fanservice-oriented for what I wanted from this series, but it doesnt detract too much, and in one episode in particular, the hotsprings, is crucial to some of the bigger laughs.』
(Extremely funny!) 『My friends and I, all over 30 (age), really loved this anime. There are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments in all episodes. We are somewhat picky and mostly watch anime comedies, and this is still one of our all-time favourites! The other FMP series, on the other hand, are really dull by comparison. (And yes, I realise that they are no comedies and yes, I *do* enjoy other genres besides comedy!) So, if you love anime comedies, get this one, don't waste your money on the other two Full Metal Panic series!』
(Seriously funny and a great comedy...) 『For all you be known. This series is a parody to hold fans off while the continuation to the first season was finished (i.e. FMP: The Second Raid). On that note this series was a great little distraction while waiting for the second season to release! Full of laughs and fan service (not extreme though). If your a fan or the series BUY IT! Even if not a fan u might actually like this it's along the lines of Excel Saga but u can follow the story not just off the wall antics.』 『Otaku lvoe Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU Whereas the first Full Metal Panic! Series was a sci-fi drama with flashes of comedy, FUMOFFU doesn't even pretend to be serieous! Action-packed and full of laughs, FUMOFFU is a must-have for any anime fan!』 『The popular broadcast seriesFull Metal Panic(2002) began as a rambunctious mixture ofmecha, magical girl and high school romance genres.Student council vice-president Kaname Chidori was a "Whispered," an individual whose untapped psi powers made her a target for sinister organizations. To protect her, the anti-terrorist mercenary corps Mithril sent Sergeant Sousuke Sagara to Jindai High, where his military bearing, hair-trigger reflexes, and extreme literal-mindedness always got him into trouble. For the second season,Fumoffu, the filmmakers dropped themechaand magical girl elements to focus on the mismatched romance between Kaname and Sosuke, with hilarious results. When a girl leaves him a love note, Sosuke notices his locker has been tampered with and blows up the bank of lockers; when he gets stuck in line at the cafeteria, he fires off a pistol and shouts out his order. Sousuke infiltrates a local amusement park by disguising himself in a plush walk-around suit of their mascot Bonta-kun, who looks like a giant hamster. The martial arts attacks make a wonderful foil for the character's super-cuteness, and the result is like watching Hamtaro go postal. Kaname, who temper makes Yosemite Sam look serene, screams at Sousuke and belts him with an outsized paper fan. Voice actors Chris Patton and Luci Christian make Sousuke and Kaname the funniest anime couple since Ranma Saotome met Akane Tendo. The character-driven slapstick and take-no-prisoners silliness may remind American viewers of old Hollywood cartoons. (Rated TV PG V: comic violence, nudity, alcohol and tobacco use, risqué humor, including real and fake profanity)--Charles Solomon』

(Relaxing) 『It is nice to watch an anime without attacking aliens or evil syndicates [Haruhi]; this anime ponders those quiet "wonderful" moments in life. This can easily be mistaken as 'escapism' but maybe the more "sensational" anime are the ones that should carry that label. Breath ...relax ...enjoy.』
(Relaxing on a gondola in Neo-Venezia) 『"Aria" is one of those series that drifts along without much of a plotline, but it's so beautiful that it doesn't need one.
The main story focuses on Akari Mizunashi, who is training to become an Undine, a professional gondolier and tour guide for Aqua. She works for the Aria gondola company in Neo-Venezia. However, she spends most of her time chatting and relaxing with her friends, the hard-working Aika and the shy, reserved high school student Alice.
However, Aqua itself is one of the most scenic planets, due to the wide expanse of water surrounding the entire planet. Believe or not, the planet actually becomes a character in this series, with plenty of mysterious spirits.
Because of the gorgeous backgrounds, the detailed character designs and the incredible voice actors, "Aria" is a masterpiece of art--it's the most wonderful oceanic utopia in an anime.
And Akari, her friends and her mentors make for excellent characters. One especially touching episode centers on the three gondolier mentors telling Akari, Aika and Alice how they became close friends when they were young. It's a nostalgic and impressive character analysis of the laid back gondolier Alicia, the perfectionist Alicia and the clumsy diva Athena.
With a lovable cast of characters and one of the most relaxing landscapes, it's no surprise that "Aria" is one of the best anime of 2008. I look forward to watching season two of "Aria" as well.
The season set is packed with great special features as well, such as interviews with the Japanese voice actors, clean opening and ending sequences and a special set of episodes called "Venice, I'm sorry!" These episodes document director Sato's trip to Venice, and how he integrated these shots into the anime. Also keep in mind that there are no dubs--the entire series is in Japanese.』
(It's not shoujo, lol...) 『This Solomon Amazon reviewer is an idiot. First off, Aria is not a shoujo series. I can't say exactly what it is... it's not exactly seinen, but it is most definitely not shoujo. (I've read/watched hundreds of shoujo manga/anime... I know shoujo when I see it) This guy name-throws in Azumanga Daioh (is it the one other anime he's seen?) even though it has absolutely nothing in common with Aria. Azumanga isn't even slice-of-life. Yes, there is a genre name for this kind of show. It's "slice-of-life." There is no overarching plot or intense drama. It's a subtler form of escapism, and it's only boring for "older viewers" with zero attention span and no appreciation for this kind of anime. This isn't really a kids anime, either. I'd think most kids would be bored to death by Aria. Like Kokoro Toshokan (another slice-of-life anime--not as good as Aria, but worth a look nonetheless), it takes you to a very romanticized version of the world, and eases you into its pace for a while.
That said, I was not so -very- impressed when watching the first season for the first time. I thought it merely a fairly good show. It was during the second season that I really fell in love with Neo-Venezia and its characters. By the third season it was one of my favorite anime of all time. 』
(nice little anime) 『It's rather hard to explain this anime. If you are a fan of Azumanga Daioh, you will appreciate the rather slow moving, meandering story line. It's nice to see the beautiful animation and the characters and music all flow nicely. My only complaint is that it does border a little bit on a little too much simplicity. There were a few times where my attention started to waver. Also, having been to Venice a few times, I did like the concept of recreating that city on another planet, but at times the buildings and background seemed a little too bland. I did enjoy this anime, but I don't think many people would do the extreme slow pace. However I am looking forward to season 2, to see if they up the ante a little with some more complex stories and character developement.』 『In the early 24th century, Mars has been terraformed by mankind into a sparkling planet covered in water. Akari Mizunashi, at the age of 15, has left everything behind to travel to that reborn world, now known as Aqua. More than anything, Akari wants to be an "undine" - a female gondolier who navigates the canals of the Aquan city of Neo-Venezia. As she begins her training with the prestigious Aria Company, will she be up to the challenges that await her on the path to achieve her dream? Contains the complete 13-episode first season. DVD Features: Scene access, Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo audio for Japanese dialogue, English subtitles and English on-screen translations. PLUS: More features to be announced.』 『Theshojo(girl's) fantasyAria(2005) takes places 150 years after Mars was "terraformed" into the watery planet Aqua. Fifteen-year-old Akari Mizunashi has come to Aqua to become an "Undine," a woman who steers a gondola through the canals of Neo Venezia, offering information about its landmarks to tourists. She and her friends Aika and Alice study with the three most celebrated Undines in the city. Although Akari can be a bit of a klutz at times, her existence is so tame and wholesome, it makes "The Bobsey Twins" feel like life in the fast lane. Some critics complained that the popularAzumanga Daioh, likeSeinfeld, wasn't about anything. But the girls in that high school cast acted like real individuals; Akari and her friends behave so well they suggest throwbacks to a '50s juvenile novel. The idea of building a perfect replica of the city of Venice as a tourist attraction fits in with the Japanese predilection for creating theme restaurants and parks of all sizes. A pastel-colored Neverland inhabited exclusively by cute teenagers and cute (if strange-looking) cats may appeal to adolescent girls, but it will quickly bore their brothers and older viewers. Kozue Amano'sAriamanga scored a big hit in Japan, and the animated series spawned two sequels and an OVA. In Japanese only, with English subtitles. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A Guilty Pleasure In My Eyes) 『This is basically a lighthearted action fanservice anime about how a busty blond senshi (gun expert) Rushuna Tendo is traveling around the world spreading love and peace to the world without resorting to violence--at least tries to, anyway. And along the way she accompanies a bumbling mercenary swordsman Yajiro, and an obnoxious balloon maker Mikan to join with her along the ride.
I'll keep it short and sweet: I seem to have an unhealthy love for this show, mainly because of how laughably stupid it truly is. The team I mentioned above is one the oddest pairings I've seen in a long time, and the action has a dumb campy charm to it, showcasing the most illogical reloading technique imaginable provided by Rushuna. And did I mention this show provides some light fanservice? (Rushuna has a strange addiction to taking baths, so the minute you hear her say "Oh, I'm all sweaty.", you'll sense a bath scene coming along.)
Goofy elements aside, it also has some positive elements as well. Rushuna and Yajiro, despite their problems, are still likable characters (Just don't expect a love story between the two.), the theme song is so darn catchy, and the animation is pretty decent for a TV show. Also at times when an action scene is not goofy, it's a decent one.
Of the 12 episodes, if I have to choose a personal favorite, it'd definitely be Episode 8's "An Enemy From The Past: Teppa Eizen", mainly because of the title character himself. The closet pervert Teppa's reaction to when he accidentally squeezes Rushuna's boob always sends me dying in laughter every time, making this character rank high on my list of favorite anime perverts.
Bottom line: If you're in the mood for some dumb, stupid entertainment, this anime's worth checking out. I know it's a goofy show, but then again, denying my enjoyment for this series would be like criticizing the sheer stupidity with "Snakes On A Plane"; It's one of shows where you just accept it for what it is.』
(Horribly Lame Anime, Only For Pervs Really) 『Yes I'm a perv that's why I continued watching it but I originally watched it without knowing what it really was about.
To the reviewer that said its like trigun but with breasts. This is no Trigun, don't insult trigun by comparing this to it. Trigun is by no manner a flawless, top of the line anime but it had a lot more quality in it. The humor and gun battle was much better. This anime is only for people that have nothing to do but watch animated women. Anime like this, btw, insult women in general. No natural woman is built like that, but that's what most animes are. Just wanted to clarify that.
The action scenes are very lame and even their pervy scenes are lame. Nothing great. This anime actually deserves a 2 or maybe 2.5 but I'm trying to balance the score out. I'm sorry, but this anime doesn't excite, either for the pervy minded or even if you just want to watch it for the gun battles. Trigun gets you connected to the character, this is just blah.
』
(Grenadier 2 thumbs Up) 『Grenadier is a really nice series and is funny and fast enough to keep my attention. I love sexy comedies and this is one of my top favorites with Love Hina and Tenchi Muyo. Not everyones cup of tea I'm afraid though. But if you need something with a sexy heroine and a clutsy guy who likes her this should be a good addition to your collection.』
(a fun series) 『I recieved this series from a friend as a birthday present. I'd been meaning to get it for awhile but was pleasently surprised to get it as a gift. My friends have to check with me when purchasing anime for me or themselves. My personal anime collection is REALLY LARGE, so they need to know if a series is good or if I have it. As for the series the opening music really took hold of me. I really like the opening song, and I like the opening song it's a good bet bet I'll like the series. Past examples are please teacher, loved the song and got the soundtrack. And the bubblegum crisis ova. Konya wa hurricane is my favorite japanes rock song and I have BOTH soundtracks for the bubblegum crisis ova. Back to the actual review, the cast of characters involve a smiling blonde woman with a gun and a very cynical swordsman that travel together after achance encounter. It's a classic story lead duo encounter evil, pick up a child sidekick. Go on a jorney to clear their names encounter friends turned enemies fromm their pasts etc. Iloved the voice acting and thought the main villian is trully great with his goals and his old european otfit with the ceramic mask. This a fun light hearted series with drama, comedy, and suspense. And like a lot of people say it's trigun with a female lead. I really enjoyed this series and would recomend it to anyone.』
(Charming Tale of a Smiling Warrior) 『Grenadier is a great 12 episode series. Recommended for those who like action, a good story, and a decent ending resolution.』 『During the age of Japanese Civil War, the faithful samurai Yajiro Torajima is surrounded by an enemy army. At the last moment, the bountiful Rushuna appears and saves him with a smile... and a high -caliber revolver. She is traveling across Japan in search of a way to bring an end to war. If you like tired pop culture references which are quickly outdated, or pathetic ad-libs by voice actors, you will enjoy the ADV dub.
If you are not a connoisseur of pop culture or an avid watcher of television many of the jokes will mean nothing, which detracts from the viewing experience.
Fortunately, the original Japanese audio and subtitles are on the discs.
I wish the Animax dub was available on DVD, since their English dub is true to the original script.』
(Ghost Stories) 『A wonderful story though unlike some critics I would hardly say that the English version is better than the Japanese original version. The English version deal with adult jokes on religion and sexuality that alters the concept of the series more and more as the episodes move alone. Either in original language or in English though it still great. Its about a group of kids who make the spirits in the old school on the property next to their new school and their attempts to put the ghosts back to sleep when they stat haunting the whole town.』
(Your head may hurt from the laughter.......) 『OMG! This has to be the funniest anime of all time! I have seen this on Anime network about 3 times. I am now buying the complete DVD set. If you like your humor racy, don't mind the F-Bomb being blasted out from time to time and listening to every ethnic group or stereotype being made fun of, then this DVD set is for you. You will laugh your freaking head off. I still cannot stop suggesting this to my friends. I am buying this DVD set so I can have a viewing party over some brewskies. It is great watching the reaction of 1st time viewers of this series. I am chuckling inside just thinking about the reactions. LMAO LMAO LMAO and some more LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!』
(Pee Your Pants, Too.) 『The year was 2005. It was the year of Batman Begin-ning, Resident Evil returning for the fourth time, and Stephen Colbert taking the nation by storm. At the ADV offices, the guys in charge of buying licenses were getting pissed-drunk in celebration of the 6th re-release of the Platinum Evangelion edition DVDs. In their inebriated states, they somehow purchased the rights to release a God-awful, cheesey, cliched kids show about ghosts. After the rays of morning (and the passing of their massive hangovers) had brought their folly to light, these intrepid office workers desperately sought to find some way of saving their all too doomed jobs and keeping their 401k's.
Thankfully, desperation often breeds genius, and this is the case with Ghost Stories. With the dub, they decided to get rid of the original script's dialogue and transform the somewhat morbid children's genre drama and turn it into an over the top and hilarious comedy. Make no mistake, this is not kid's stuff. This is adult humor at its bawdiest. If the idea of elementary school kids trash talking about sex, the mentally handicapped, homosexuals, religion, sex, beastiality, sex, the nation's broken health care system, sex, and old people offends you greatly, then this is not the show for you. Go watch some high-brow anime like Kino's Journey or some Miyazaki. This is low-brow gutter humor at its gourmet finest.
THINGS THAT MAY OFFEND: Kids cursing; numerous pre-teen panty shots, dead animals; dead people; dead animals having sex with dead people (kidding, maybe); anti-Christian rhetoric; anti-Jewish rhetoric; anti-Muslim rhetoric; anti-EVERYBODY rhetoric; gay retarded little brothers; dead lesbian mothers; evil talking cats; a fifth-grade boy who sounds like a 30 year old but retains the horniness of said fifth-grade boy; disturbingly hot female ghosts (don't judge me); more pop culture references than Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a new Doctor Who episode penned by Russel T. Davies COMBINED.』
(Totally halarious un-political correct commedy anime) 『Anyone who doesn't think this is funny has absolutely zero sense of humor and should be watching soap operas or reading a historical novel. This is not a heart warming story about a family whose wife died. Its the funniest anime I have ever watched. More than all the 300 Anime movies I have in my collection put together. It really pokes fun at nerds and straight laced political correct snobs. It made me realize how brainwashed Americans are that we can't even poke fun at ourselves. This is NOT about a family trying to adjust after a mother dies. The family is perfectly adjusted to the mother being dead and have moved on even joking about the dead mother --which has nothing to do with the theme. A group of kids go into the old haunted school house looking for their lost cat and the adventure starts. I have 600 movies and 300 anime in my collection and this is the first movie that has made me laugh out loud. Ghost stories describes itself as wicked fun. A reluctant ghost hunter. Her babbling baby brother. A horny pre-teen. Its 5 discs not 1 and contains 1-20 episodes--each a separate ghost adventure -- 550 minutes long. This anime is so funny I am watching it twice and may even watch it 3 times. I recommend it for anyone who is sick and tired of political correct authoritarians ruling their lives. No holds barred comedy. English dubbed voices and translations are great. Totally funny!!!』 『ADV did the unthinkable: We took a perfectly fine kids show about supernatural sleuths… and threw away the script! A top director teamed with A-list actors to produce something completely different. And hilarious! This is the anime event of the year!』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Wonderful and Touching) 『This is a masterpiece. A deep and touching story. It's about love, mythology and symbolism included. Also with some fun and clever silliness. 5 starts.』
(Emotional&melodramatic love story with some old-school undertones) 『If you are a fan of melodramatic, romantic yuri and anime in general, there is a good chance you will love this series. I have been watching anime since I was a young teenager and this series gave me a bit of warm nostalgia on top of a tragic tale of forbidden love with a tiny glint of hope that if strong enough, love may be eternally defiant of any power on the planet, in the universe, and in the relentless face of time itself. The series packs in about as much love, drama, action and character development as you could expect in a mere 12 episodes, though the characters themselves are a bit derivative. Also, if you turn up a cynical sneer to anything that approaches emotional, tissue-box melodrama, you will want to steer clear as the scale is tipped more towards that and you may find the pacing to be uneven in this aspect. Drama first, everything else (including action sequences) second. I for one fully embrace this motif, but it isn't for everyone. The yuri content is not heavy. There is some light humor to liven things up on occasion, but it is sprinkled in sparingly and won't detract from the drama or the romance. There is no slapstick to be found.
The plot is rather easy to follow, but it is not likely you will be able to predict anything in the later half of the series. In a nutshell it tells the tale of two priestesses who's cruel destinies are eternally intertwined in a battle against the Orochi, an evil force out to destroy humanity aided by their ancient soul-bound mecha. The maidens love for one another is boundlessly deep-seeded, but they need one another much more than could ever be imagined and the course they must take to ensure the survival of humanity is further complicated when such pure and unrelenting love is involved... The perfectly tragic, infinitely heart wrenching story is full of twists&turns and just might keep you guessing throughout, right up until the absolutely beautiful and moving final episodes. This series has a very poignant, effective, emotional conclusion that not only ties everything up perfectly, but has the potential to leave you in tears. Don't expect a fairy tale, here...
The music is delicate and soothing. Aside from the exciting techno music during the opening&ending themes (which I actually enjoyed very much) as well as during some action scenes, it is almost entirely elegant and blissful piano, violin&cello melodies. The artwork&animation is quite nice, it is pleasant, bright and colorful. However, there were times when I noticed a lack of some attention to quality and detail.
The package itself is worthy of enthusiastic praise. The 3 discs come in a very sturdy cardboard box covered in colorful artwork. Sliding the 3 full sized dvd cases out you are greeted with even more colorful artwork on each high quality case, and within each clear case is a full color insert that when unfolded reveals yet more beautiful artwork in the form of a full page picture unique to each foldout! In the background of each case on the inside is also... yes, more colorful artwork and more unique scenes of our heroines lovingly embracing one another. There is even a glossy plastic card with colorful scenes on both sides within the first dvd case. There are absolutely no special features to speak of, however.
If you collect anime you should seriously consider a purchase, and soon. This lovely release won't be in print forever and is already ~$70 on other sites...』
(A title for yuri lovers) 『If you're into yuri, this title is for you. (A classic Macross series) 『Being a Macross fan, this is one of the series that I would never get bored no matter how many times I watch. Keep in mind that this movie edition came after the 4 OVAS. So some of the scenes are removed to accommodate movie time. Actually I like the new cut, because it makes the story move faster and there are couple of new scenes (in my opinon) makes the story more smoother and dramatic. So get this DVD before it goes out of print. This is more than 10 years old!』
(Macross Plus) 『I saw the first video many years ago, so when I had the opportunity to buy it I did, and so far I have no regrets. This is an awesome little part of the bigger puzzle that is the macross saga. These episodes have such amazing animation sequences, that they made my head spin. I encourage others to buy these videos (or DVD's) and enjoy their quality and storyline, not to mention the amazing transforming veritech fighters.』
(Truely to all future pioneers) 『Macross Plus really is one of the best installments in the Macross franchise. Coming from someone who has seen mostly everything of Macross (yes, including Macross 7) I can easily say this is one of the best purchases I have ever made.
As has been said this is the movie version of the original 4 part OVA that was edited, cut, and tied together into a 2 hour presentation. This movie is Japanese with English subtitles as the movie version was never dubbed into English like the OVA but don't let that sour you on this buy. Sometimes the best way to see anime is in its original format.
This movie has it all, a great story, high flying mecha action, and of course the trademark of Macross: music plays an important role. Whether you are a long time Macross fan or just like mecha anime in general you can enjoy this movie. Highly Recommended.』
(This is not Macross Plus! This is Macross II!) 『Every review I have read here is talking about Macross Plus - an entirely different series produced several years after this. Macross II is the first sequal series to Macross. The first half is an intriguing set-up for a series, but the second half is lackluster and delivers no real pay-off. PLUSES: The character designs by original Macross designer Haruhiko Mikimoto are fantastic. The animation and space battles for the first half of the story is great. The universe feels like a natural extension of the original series. MINUSES: Poor second half, both in terms of animation quality and storytelling. Overall, a worthwhile diversion for Macross fans, and any fan of Mikimoto or Kawamori's designs. And still light years better than Macross Zero or the infantile Macross 7 which inexplicably ran for many years. Enjoy.』 『In 2040, on the colonial planet Eden, the Ministry of Defense is developing a transforming super-stealth aircraft, a new advanced defense vehicle to counter alien attacks. An extrovert jet fighter maverick is assigned as the new test pilot on the project but competition heats up when he discovers that his old rival is a test pilot for a competing aircraft. The arrival of a mutal ex-girlfriend adds more tension to their conflict. This dramatic, visuallly superb and critically acclaimed 4 part anime series is now available in one complete box set and specially priced for its 10th Anniversary re-release.』 『A recut version of the four-part OAV (1994), theMacross Plusmovie plays like a mixture ofTop Gun,Gundam Wing, andKey the Metal Idol. It's 2040 on the planet Eden: former high school rivals Isamu Dyson and half-human/half-Zentraedi Guld Goa Bowman have become rival mecha test pilots. They're also still competing for the affection of Myung Lone, the producer for cybernetic singing sensation Sharon Apple. When an illegal "bio-neural" chip is implanted into the computer that generates Sharon, she becomes sentient, attacking Myung and attempting to lure Isamu to his death. Wild and crazy Isamu and serious Guld defeat the plot with their hotshot piloting. This has to be one of the funniest Animes I've ever had the pleasure of watching! Great voice acting! Great Storyline! I felt like I was reliving High School all over again!』
(Good Times) 『This is one of the most hilarious animes ever. There are moments that you just want to choke some of the characters who are almost willfully oblivious, but overall it is a fun relaxing anime. Great for vegging out.』
(Ready to Rumble!!!) 『"School Rumble" is probably my favorite modern comic from Japan. Equal parts straight comedy, bizarre strangeness and hilarious romance hijinks, it manages to get the mix just right and have me cracking up in a way I haven't done since Love Hina.
The basic premise is nothing unique. Boy likes girl who likes different boy who likes other girl who likes different boy who likes an entirely different girl who is in love with the original boy who liked the original girl. I remember when I first picked up the comic book in Japan, the display had a giant flowchart detailing all the romantic entanglements.
"School Rumble" has a great ensemble cast without any throwaway characters. Tsukamoto Tenma is the naïve cute girl desperately in love with Karasuma Oji. Why she loves Karasuma is a mystery, as he is a stone-faced oddball with no particular interests outside of curry, and who wears a kappa costume whenever it is raining. Tenma is loved by the delinquent Harima Kenji, who tries to balance his wild nature with his feelings for Tenma. Tenma has a supporting cast of girlfriends, Eri (the rich princess), Mikoto (the brawny and busty kenpo athlete) and Akira (the cool calculator) who each have their romantic entanglements.
What is unique is how the series is handled. The first few episodes are pretty straight forward, but then the whole storyline takes a quick turn to left field, almost as if the writer got bored with his original plan. I always tell people looking to check out "School Rumble" that they need to stick with it for a couple of episodes when the pace and quality really pick up. Out of nowhere, Tenma's little sister comes in, with the ability to read the mind of any guy who finds her attractive, which is everyone but Harima Kenji. Kenji suddenly becomes a long-haired fortune teller with the ability to talk to animals. Ichijyo Karen makes an entrance, a small girl with tremendous strength who can lift a piano single-handedly. Slowly, the Harima/Tenma/Karasuma triangle heads backstage, and the crazy fun begins.
The animated series follows the comic almost exactly, with the same story arcs and situations. They did a phenomenal job capturing the look and feel of the comic. Tenma is even cuter here, and Harima is even cooler. The way they handled Tsukamoto Yakuma's (Tenma's sister) ability to read minds was quite clever. The animators obviously knew that the comic worked just as it was, and did a direct translation to screen.
This DVD collection by Funimation is equally fantastic. It has the entire first season, 26 episodes, in four slim cases. I love getting a whole season on DVD that doesn't take up a lot of space on my shelf. I'm not a big fan of dubbing, so I can't comment on that, but the subtitles are excellent and do a great job of capturing the original dialog. There is also a bonus disk with cast interviews that was a nice surprise. Altogether a perfect package for a great series.』
(One of the Best Anime Out There) 『School Rumble is a "Romantic Comedy" about a group of girls and boys that go to, you guessed it, school. I contend that it is more comedy than romance, as well as a good portion of "slice of life" in the mix.
The main love triangle of the series is between Tenma Tsukamoto's crush on Oji Karasuma while Kenji Harima loves Tenma. While that may not sound too interesting, trust me when I say that they stretch and test the boundaries of this triangle more than any I have seen in media, but in a very entertaining way.
One other thing I can appreciate is that this series, unlike several different anime shows out there, never gets vulgar to the point where it gets a mature rating. In fact, I'd say it's milder than most prime time shows, but twice as entertaining, and that is something I fully appreciate.
In short, please consider this worthy series to be with the rest of your DVD collections. You do not need to know much of anything about anime or Japanese culture in order to understand the series, as myself and several others have discovered.』
(Fluff mixed with hilarity) 『So, I've watched the first 5 episodes of this anime so far and I must say, if you are looking for an anime where the heroine is a silly school girl who isn't too bright and has a major crush on the oblivious sweet guy while she herself has a suitor who's the bad boy in school but is just as silly and not too bright, then this is your anime.
Also, if you love Marmalade Boy, Kare Kano, or Mermaid Melody, you'll enjoy this too.
The fluff is perfectly mixed with the lovely artwork and silly plots. If you don't enjoy fluff and are looking for a more... intense school anime, you should check out an anime like Beck.』 『While there is a decided lack of rumble in School Rumble, there’s more hilarious humdingers than any single dinger can hum… Look that one up! And while there is a truck full of pigs, a giraffe, flying saucers and crazy dream sequences, none of that’s even close to what this show’s about. (Though I would probably watch that show, too!)
Here’s what you need to know: Sophomore cutie Tenma is completely crushed on classmate Karasuma past the point of freakin’ out. Tough guy Harima, with his own delinquent style of freak, has a long-standing crush on Tenma… And Karasuma? Can you say clueless? He’s pretty much all about the curry.Mmm… Curry!
With enough tangled triangles for an entire semester of geometry, just keep in mind… School Rumble – The absolutely funniest show you’ll ever see that’s not about anything that rumbles… Ever!
The Season One Box Set contains episodes 1 - 26 with over 600 minutes of side splitting fun!』
『The course of true love seldom runs smoothly, but at Yagami High, where the teen comedySchool Rumble(2004) is set,the road to romance is littered with potholes. Perky sophomore Tenma Tsukamoto nurtures a gritty crush on classmate Oji Karasuma. But Karasuma is so oblivious, he wouldn't look up if Tenma set off firecrackers under his desk. Her general klutziness doesn't help the campaign to his win his heart: she leaves a novel-length love letter in his locker, then forgets to sign it. Johnny Depp-esque bad boy Kenji Harima is smitten with Tenma, but he's even more maladroit than she is. Class representative Haruki Hanai ("he's like a walking encyclopedia, only more boring") falls for Tenma's younger sister, Yakumo, the only sane member of the cast. Surveying the situation, one of Tenma's friends presciently observes, "This doesn't bode well for the rest of the school year." The filmmakers keep the characters appealing although they remain terminally clueless teenagers. For all his bad boy posturing,Harima shows talent and discipline as he works to become a manga artist. But when an editor suggests having a friend review his story, Harima sulks, "A delinquent like me doesn't have any friends--not any who can read, anyway!" Director Shinji Takamatsu provides lots of laughs by turning everyday mishaps into outrageous spoofs ofInu-Yasha,Dragon Ball Z,Night on the Galactic Railroad,Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and theMatrixmovies.School Rumblewas followed by a second broadcast season and the OVASchool Rumble: Extra Class. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Appreciate The B-Day gift But Truly Wish For Something Else) 『AS I said an a earlier review this is probably one of the few animes I truly disliked. I got this on my b-day and I appreciate my friend for getting me a gift but when I saw what it was I knew I had to put it somewhere I couldn't see it. My friends after a few days decided they wanted to see some of the show so I brought it out and played the set if I disliked it with just the two dvds I bought earlier I truly despised it now. The main reason is during the show there is a relationship between brother and sister that borders on incest while I never bothered to check the rest of the series out to see if they did anything more on that just seeing that little piece of it was enough to exchange this set for something else. The voice actors aren't bad or anything but it's just again I felt that there was way to much fan-service and near hentai scenes that I was wondering if this wasn't an anime porno series. The fight scenes are pretty good I give you that but I will tell viewers if you are looking for anything else in a anime series check out something else.』
(Tenjho Tenge) 『This is a great Animated, Box set. This is not for the young but older kids 13 and up will love it. Great fighting action and plot. Very pleased to add this to my collection.』
(Rebuttal re the 1 star reviews) 『There is a bit of anger among viewers regarding the utter failure of TT to have a satifying ending. Or ANY ending. I was there, I was in the same boat, right at the most climactic moment...nothing. Wtf!1
Geneon has since gone out of business; unless the lic goes to another co, thats it. Solution ? MANGA! Want to find out the end ? TT is really involved and continues! (not a del rey review, no comment on the sanitized vers.).
The anime is one of my faves still. Animation is crisp and with great colour, want a female voice to sound half-way normal ? TT. Deep involved story thats part Mystic, part Feudal Japan yet part now Japan ? TT.
TT is not perfect, the fan service is minimal imo, but after the first ep. I didnt really notice it; it can get a bit long in some spots and the "flashbacks" may cause some lack of focus, but over all the story and quality far out weigh and failures.
Do I wish TT had actually had a conclusion ? YES!. Do I think the manga had issues ? yes.
Do I regret finding TT ? NO. 』
(Looking for a mindblowing philosophy? Forget it, it is all about style!) 『Have you ever read Oh! Great mangas? They all possess a very unique air about them and you cannot describe it as 'fighting', or 'fanservice', or 'comedy', or 'school life' or label it with any other genre. It is all about it but from the stylish, sexual point point of view (no hentai though!). Personaly, I prefer plot-tight, questioning anime which leaves your head full of thoughts. But once in a while anyone wants to see something juicy, eye-catching, impossible-to-turn-away because its so damn good looking. Tenjho Tenge is 100% from this league. It has so much blood-girls-boys-fights-fists to be almost overwhelming and unbearble, but it never crosses the final line and gets back to its gag-comedy side to settle things down for a bit. And in the same time I cannot say it has no plot. Yes, it is close to its basics but here it is: there are groups of high schoolers who fight each other at Todo Academy's grounds which has been entirely dedicated to martial arts for more than 100 years. Familiar? But among all fight-them-all series I do not recall one where: - so complicated characters relationships including love dreadful triangles, quadros, etc. exist; - characters almost never cry, scream or crawl with pittiful faces (lets forget a girl with a broken heart, ok?); - characters never say 20-minutes monologues with pathetic voices but fight, unrealisticly tough, but with clear reasoning, clear at least to themselves; - even flashbacks about past (which are actually one of the two main storylines in the series) are so full of action and passion that to me the characters from 2 years back became more dear than the newly came cast. And all of these is packed in such a wonderful character design, such juicy girls and macho boys than this modest hetero girl honestly felt bisexual influence from the visuals :-P And by the end of the day, recalling the entire series I can tell that it had more emotional and mindful impact on me with all those really-hard-trying people than many so called clever shows whose heroes are boring scums.』
(Good but, do you know what fan service is?) 『This anime is quite good in the respects that it is action packed has a good premise and the characters all have a pretty good back story. Sadly this is forgotten sometimes and replaced with fan service (panty shots, things of this sort). All they ever really needed to do was focus on the action and character drama and this would have been a great anime.』

Strawberry Panic is One of the best Yuris around. An exciting story that will have you laughing and crying through the events that surround Nagisa, Shizuma, and friends as they go through high school. For ANYONE browsing for something to watch I Highly recommend this series. Don't just simply watch this series, feel it. Let your emotions follow along, I promise you, you will not regret it.』
(Strawberry Panic is a delight!) 『I own all the available anime, manga, and lite novels for this series. If you're like me, you will enjoy many sweet moments and be left wanting more.
For flaws: There are some awkward transitions; there are story threads that should have seen greater development; and this is a series that ends too soon because these young girls are characters you want to know more about. There are even parts that some may think bear a (too) strong similarity to other anime story plots, but I'll call it homage.
Bottom line: The joys and angst of girls in love is dealt with in a natural and direct way that includes the bitter with the sweet and the shy with the bold. This is a story of charming young school girls in their first (second, third?) blush of love and shares their desire to connect as friends and as more-than-friends. It was a pleasure that ended too soon.

(An absolute essential for yuri fans) 『Let's face it, if you are a yuri fan in the west, pickings are slim to say the least. Even if a series happens to have yuri content, it is likely to be very subtle and merely implied, and even if so, masked by some mystical happenings or overshadowed by some other plot device. There simply isn't any straight up yuri romance anime available to those of us in the west, which is very sad. Anime can be seen as a niche market, and yuri is essentially a niche within a niche.
Strawberry Panic is a gift to those of us with a passion for yuri. It is a simple story of high school romances involving many of the common, yet complex themes explored with young relationships that one would see in just about any other drama: love/friendship, jealousy, confusion, self-doubt, longing, loneliness; only with a 100% female cast of very likable, attractive and well-designed characters. It is beautiful, touching, moving, and absolutely adorable. It's like digital candy: a bit light-weight, but very indulgent. The cuteness and sweetness is literally off the charts. Presentation in general is gorgeous, with seasons passing by in the serene wilderness surrounding the schools. There is an aura of mystery throughout the show that will keep you watching. If the yuri content in other anime is implied, then that in Strawberry Panic is executed without restraint nor apology to the maximum extent a 13 and up rating could possibly allow. A truly refreshing series, and we should all be thankful it has been re-released. It is great to see a serious drama with no slapstick, science fiction, or mysticism in yuri form, and I only hope there is more to come.
The plot moves very slowly at first. For the most part, season one relies on some mystery and the charm of it's characters to keep you watching until the much more rewarding 2nd volume. The first volume exists almost entirely to introduce characters and their elements rather than explaining the 5 W's. Your patience will pay off, though.
Unfortunately, there are those who look down upon this show critically; yuri fans and reviewers, who see only it's flaws. No, the show is not perfect. However, we should ask ourselves: if you live in a town which only has one grocery store, what is the best grocery store in town? We should be grateful and appreciate the fact that it's there whenever it may be needed, not complaining. Without it, many of us would go hungry. Could it be improved upon? Of course, but it's so much better than nothing at all.
Please buy this unique gem. Until something better comes along, this is as close to sublime as yuri gets as far as pure drama/romance is concerned, and if you are a fan of such anime, you owe it to yourself to see it. It starts off somewhat slow, getting by on sweetness alone, but picks up later and in the end does not disappoint. Even though one of the main relationships sort of loses some steam towards the end, the romantic story delivers as the very engaging final volume unfolds. As an anime, it is pretty good; as an anime for a yuri fan, it easily scores extra stars.』
(While It Doesn't Have Hard-core Fighting This Heart-Warming Series Is Worth A Look) 『I had gotten this on order the same time of another series Simoun, and while it doesn't deal with supernatural beings or mecha battles the series still is entertaining enough to be justified on getting for someones collection. The small part of the story has to do with a new young girl's transfer to a luxurious looking school for young ladies, and while trying to find her niche in the school stumbles on a mixture of romantic liaisons, troublesome jealous feelings against her, and her own growing feelings for one the schools most respected and honored students. The series is one gender(female)romances and while some might find that offensive they've no right to complain if they read the amazon sites editorial about the series in the first place. My two complaints are that one is the series is only subbed and while the cast were fantastic in their roles for the series it's sometimes nice not having to read the subtitles all the time, though if they couldn't find a decent group of voice actors for the series than I truly am greatly relived that they just left it subbed because nothing is worse than an awful dubbing. The second is that the series slim-pack is a dvd case that holds all five dvds inside it, I would rather of had them put the dvds in individual slim-packs but like almost all anime or business companies in the United States their trying to make cost-saving choices on their products, and for the price I guess we can forgive them for this one little annoyance....』
(Almost Overwhelmingly Sweet) 『For all those who find the subtle hints at lesbianism in such shows as Revolutionary Girl Utena and Maria Watches Over Us annoyingly vague, look no further. Strawberry Panic pulls no punches, calling a spade a spade... without ever once using the word or being judgemental. Essentially a high school romance, or rather a set of them, SP takes place at three linked all-girl's academies that share a common dorm. With casual aplomb, the show deals with all aspects of high-school dating: jealousy, love triangles, shyness, and inevitable seperation. The characters are well designed, rich with nuance, and - if lacking in depth and background at times - engaging as all get out. While essentially character driven, this show does have more of a coherent plot and story arc than Marmite... plus each of the three schools has its own set of uniforms, all of them significantly more attractive than those found in Marmite or Utena.』 『Nagisa Aoi has just transferred to a prestigious all-girls' school that happens to share dormitory facilities with two other academies for young ladies. The new surroundings are a lot to take in, but she quickly adapts to life in Strawberry Hall with the help of newfound friends. However, when Nagisa catches the eye of Shizuma Hanazono, the respected representative of all three schools known as theÉtoile, both their lives are forever changed. Bonds beyond mere friendship develop between the two and those around them amidst a school year of heated conflicts, petty jealousies, and crossed boundaries.』
