(Good and Bad)
『I won't repeat stuff about the content that many others have said before.
My recommendation is to buy Trust and Betrayal seperately and skip Reflections completely.
Trust and Betrayal (the first two OVAs) are a must-have for every fan of the Manga or the TV series.
Reflection is a jumble of flashbacks and a barely comprehensible story to hold it all together. I wish I had never seen it!』

(Awesome)
『This is without a doub one of the best pieces of anime ever. I would recommend reading the manga first (all 28 volumes). You can watch the TV series, but it's not true to the spirit of the series. The music is excelent and the story is wonderful. Trust/Betrayal are pre-Meiji; they are an in depth look at Battousai's period as a hitokiri and generally sty true to the manga. Reflections, on the other hand, is like fanfiction, except you have to pay for it. It doesn't follow the manga. And the characters are not themselves at times. Kenshin never moves forward, Kaoru is more of a Meiji Tomoe and she is almost never shown with a wooden sword, and the other characters just seem off occaisionally. That dosn't mean it's not a thing of beauty. I recommend to any open-mnded fan who doesn't mind a depressing-ish ending.
The visuals have their stange moments (the real-time shots in particular are odd), and the english dub is not that bad. It is better in Japanese, though.
If you love Rurouni Kenshin, you'll love Samurai X (what an asinine name that is!) OVAs.

(Excellent movie but beware the HONK GONG knock offs!)
『HONK GONG...hilarious.

Ok but seriously, these are excellent movies. One of my favorite anime stories of all time. Be warned! The opening few minutes are EXTREMELY AND DISTURBINGLY VIOLENT!! Other than that, the movie is great. I think it really helped that I had already seen the entire Rurouni Kenshin series. I would recommend watching the series first but not the whole series. Stop after episode 62.

Be careful though when buying this dvd set. I bought this box set and ended up getting a Hong Kong version with completely different packaging. I was very upset. Finally an anime I wanted to support and I inadvertently bought the pirated copy!』

(moments)
『Received product fast. Good condition. I enjoyed all three very much. I like the mature storyline and brief history of the time period. I would recommend』

(One beauty, one bane)
『Well, Tsuiokuhen (the proper Japanese title for Trust and Betrayal) is simply the most gorgeous piece of anime I've ever seen. It is very elemental in the way it tells the story. I just love all the symbolism laced throughout the movie like Kenshin's little top and all the pretty nature shots.

Yes, it is very grim compared to the TV series. Since it's set during a bloody war, one can understand this. You can't really expect Kenshin as an assassin to walk around saying, "Oro". Rather, this is the story of how he embarked on the journey to become the rurouni of the TV series.

Tomoe is captured pretty well, though I do prefer her portrayal in the manga. However, as the mystery around her unfolds, we see her sadness and her humanity. We see that she is torn between her feelings for Kenshin and her feelings for her fiance.

I also love how Hiko is portrayed in this OVA and think he's even better in this than in the manga and anime. He seems wiser and more humane somehow, I think because of his expanded speeches.

I also really liked Kenshin's clan master, Katsura Kogoro. Even though he is ruthless enough to take advantage of a naive 14-year-old, we can see Katsura's plight and see that he really isn't an evil person. Like Kenshin, he's simply doing the best he can in an adverse situation.

Seisouhen (the Japanese title for "Reflection") on the other hand is just pure garbage. I've read the original manga and it shares nothing with this train wreck of an OVA.

Seisouhen, which is set in the relatively peaceful Meiji Era, tries too hard to recapture the dark beauty of Tsuiokuhen, which takes place during the violent Bakumatsu.

The end result of this is characters who aren't themselves. The Kenshin of Seisouhen isn't the man who went through the character growth of the Kyoto and Jinchuu Arcs. Rather he is Battousai all over again; still grief-stricken and angst driven.

Kaoru isn't Kaoru, but a Meiji Era version of Tomoe; quiet, submissive and self-sacrificing to a fault.

In order to try and recreate the tragic beauty of the culmination of Tsuiokuhen, the makers of Seisouhen invent a disease that slowly eats away at Kenshin's mind and body and then have Kaoru deliberately take it to "share his pain".

The only characters in this OVA who really seemed alright were Yahiko and Kenji. Kenji is understandably bitter at his parents' continued neglect of him in favor of their little angst/romance. Eventually, he splits for Kyoto and seeks out Kenshin's old master Hiko Seijuro XIII to learn Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu so he can understand his father's past strength.

Enter Yahiko, armed with the Sakabatou. Yahiko fights Kenji in a duel that is unfortunately the highlight of this slow-paced and boring OVA in an attempt to get the teenager to return to Kaoru with him so she won't be alone.

The end result of this OVA left a bitter taste in my mouth. I cannot recommend this OVA to any fan with a good conscience.』

Trust
The four-episodeSamurai X: Trustoriginal animation video captures the mixture of swordplay and poetry that makes Japanese warrior culture so intriguing to viewers on both sides of the Pacific. The OAV series serves as a prequel to bothSamurai X: The Movieand the more lighthearted TV series. The action unfolds in 1864, when a few clans began the revolt that would overthrow the military dictatorship of the Tokugawa Shogunate and return power to the Emperor in the Meiji Restoration of 1868. Shinta, a lonely orphan, is transformed by master swordsman Hiko into Kenshin Himura, an assassin in the service of Katsura, one of the revolutionary leaders. Kenshin kills whomever Katsura orders with consummate skill and unshatterable calm. He believes he is using his sword to bring about a better world, even as the intrigues and counter-intrigues escalate. But he becomes aware of unspoken doubts when he meets Tomoe, a mysterious girl whose beauty, like the iris, is seen to best advantage in cloudy weather. Director Kazuhiro Furuhashi choreographs the sword fights with a grace that infuses even scenes of extreme violence with an elegant sensuality: in one striking image, he focuses on the rain washing a spatter of blood from Tomoe's cheek. The dialogue in the English translation often sounds stilted, but the words are usually superfluous.

Betrayal
The peace that reigns over the remote mountain village of Otsu contrasts sharply with the rapid-fire violence of the previous episodes set in Kyoto. Working as a farmer, growing crops and savoring the passage of the seasons, Kenshin comes to terms with the discontent festering in his soul. He regrets the death and suffering he has caused, and hopes to find a better life--with the mysterious Tomoe. A conventional story would end on this note of self-discovery and moral growth. ButSamurai Xunfolds like a Kabuki tragedy: the desire for revenge remains strong, especially among the agents of the last Tokugawa Shogun, who are anxious to crush the nascent rebellion led by the Choshu clan. Kenshin was an important agent for the Choshu; Tomoe is just a pawn, but the outcome of a game may hinge on a strategically positioned pawn. Kenshin finally grasps the lessons his master, Hiko, attempted to teach him: the need for inner peace and the possibility of defending the weak without resorting to violence. The exquisitely detailed artwork evokes 19th century Japan, and director Kazuhiro Furuhashi depicts these understated inner conflicts as skillfully as the epic sword fights in the first episodes.Samurai Xdemonstrates the power of animation to present stories of great emotional depth, earning it a rightful place among the top anime series.

Reflection
The final OAV brings the long-running saga of master swordsman and assassin Kenshin Himura to its conclusion. The story is set in 1893, long after the bloody conflicts of the Meiji Restoration--and the events in the previous OAVs that culminated in the death of Kenshin's wife, Tomoe. With his devoted second wife, Kaoru, Kenshin seeks peace in trying to aid the helpless. But he cannot escape the karmic burden of the many deaths he caused: there is no peace for Kenshin in this world. The Japanese concept of the transitory nature of beauty permeates the two-part adventure. Director Kazuhiro Furuhashi ushers the narrative along at a deliberate pace, deftly inserting the many flashback sequences. The result is a properly elegiac farewell to one of most popular anime characters on both sides of the Pacific. (Rated 17 and older: violence, alcohol use, mature themes)--Charles Solomon

(p.s.: your mother is a dirty whore......)
『when I was recommended this series from a friend. I dodnt know what to exspect. but I must say it was highly enjoyable. the characters were well written, the action scenes kicked ass, and it had one of the most interesting plot twists out there. If ya like post apocolyptic series like Trigun, this is your bag.』

『I own a lot of anime and desert punk is in my top five.Very very funny plus a lot of guns, babes and the it facter!the it facter is a anime that makes you want more no matter the cost for the price it is now dont let this one on pass you by.』

(Funniest damn anime I've ever seem)
『I can't remember the last time I've laughed at an anime so much. FUNimation did a fantastic job dubbing this in English with a very mature, crud, and witty dialog. From the cover I thought it was going to be a drama, and I'm happy it wasn't. Too many anime's are heavy and dark, and don't get me wrong I love those, but this was like a breath of fresh air. I'd recommend it to anyone, not just anime fans. This may now be my favorite anime.
*The dialog is similar in crudeness to Shin-chan so if that offended you (grow some balls), you'll probably want to avoid this, as well.*』

(Has this happened to anyone else?)
『Okay... so recently I bought this product, and it's a GREAT series, I'll give it that, it's got comedy, fanservice, action, everything really.

But inside my box when I opened it up, I noticed I have disc 1, 4, 3, 4, 5, and 6... no disc 2, but two disc 4s, and unfortunately there's no real way to like... correct this so I'll prolly just have to buy a seperate disc 2 and swap it out for the extra disc 4(and hopefully the individual dvds are the same as the ones that come in the box set), unfortunately the individual discs no matter where I've gone cost more than I paid for the boxset itself. And it was factory sealed, so it's not like someone swapped it, it is just an anomally that occured and I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else?』

(FUNNY AS HELL.)

    (Transformers G1 S3 pt1)
『For a used product, it came in the shape as was promised and arrived sooner than expected! I can't begin to tell you how great it was to watch the REAL and original Transformers again! If anybody liked the transformers movie by Michael Bay, Then you ought to purchase this! THis series of Transformers is where it all began!』

    (in their darkness hour)
『as a kid I hated season 3 but I was a fan of the transformers anyway now I like season 3 more thaN EVER THESE WERE DARK TIMES.

prime's dead and most of the original cast was killed off in the movie.

but the positive side starscream's ghost haunted the hell out of galvatron.

prime came back during the end good relief.

    (The fallout)
『While no one can deny the greatness of characters like Optimus Prime, Megatron, Star Scream, Iron Hide, Soundwave, and the Dinobots, I do think that people have misunderstood and therefore unfairly underestimated this odd but very interesting season. Yes there were some unwatchable episodes (Surprise Party and Carnage in C Minor come to mind), terrible animation gaffes with the Sweeps for instance, and a Myriad of pointless new characters with no intelligable origins. But considering the circumstances surrounding the series, this season is great example of people doing what they could in the face of mass confusion and unpredictable chaotic events.

By the time season 3 came along, Hasbro had given up the pretention of trying to entertain and just demanded the all out advertisement of their new toys in the episodes. Plots didn't matter and the writers were rushed into creating these promotions before the fervor of the movie (Perhaps the best animated action film of all time) died down. Yet given all this, no one can truthfully deny the fact that the five faces of darkness episodes that opened the season and directly followed the movie were among the best episodes to come out of the series. Who reading this can say that the Sky Lynx/ Predaking battle didn't get their adreneline flowing. Or that they weren't amazed at the depth of the Quintessons and the meticulous investigation of their methods and personalities. The stuff novels are made from.

But by far the biggest crime critics of this series commit is in the their disregard of the third greatest character ever created for the show. The combination of Galvetron's awesome might and undeniable insanity gave his character a depth never before seen in any kids cartoon. The idea that Megatron was somewhere in there and the identity issues that brought up (underscored perfectly by a conversation between two decepticons in one of the Faces of Darkness episodes)was disturbing and comforting at the same time. He was so charismatic that you couldn't help but root for him most of the time. The "Jack Sparrow" of the show if you will, or one of those troubled eighties music and sports stars we used to read about in the tabloids around the time these episodes were written. His exchanges with Cyclonis throughout the season steal the show and almost made you feel disappointed when the symbol on the screen told you an autobot scene was coming up.

Not coincidentally, you find the autobots and decepticons uniting to save themselves from other evils many times throughout this season. The mixing and matching of certain autobots and decepticons provide some very interesting moments throughout these episodes. The autobots are admittedly boring througout most of the season, but in the end the writers seem to channel their pain through them. No time, no direction, just trying to keep thier noses above water. And that describes this season in a nutshell.

This season deserves an honest view without the biased memories of the great Optimus Prime years getting in the way. We know those seasons were great. But one of the things that made the movie great was the fact that it took away our innocence. I and surely many others cried following Optimus Prime's death and was shocked by the death of all those characters that had in a way become a part of my life. With that, our generation knew things would never be the same.

This season was the perfect continuation of that loss of innocence. Of the dissolution of our black and white perceptions of the world and of the thought that things could last forever. The gray area had expanded and season 3 would envelope us in it whether we liked it or not. No absolutes. Just a shattered version of all we'd taken for granted. An irrelevant soundwave. One Dinobot. Unicron's mangled head with no body. Optimus Prime, the representation of all that was good to us, coming back to us in a creepy, almost possessed, state. And in that particular episode there is the microcosm of what season 3 meant to us. Optimus Prime, in a spaceship, heading to the sun to burn himself up for the good of his fellow autobots. Leaving that same empty feeling we always seemed to feel at the end of these episodes; not because of their shortcomings, but because we were unknowingly beginning to learn how to mourn and how life went on even after our heroes died and the structure of our lives slowly but surely began to resemble Springer after that Junkyon machine was thorugh with him.

    (it was okay)
『Being perfectly honest I'm almost sorry I bought it. Fading into the final seasons. Transformers lost its spark, the writers were trying too hard to be like the first two seasons. The plots got away from the storylines more often than not. And as for as specific autobots and decepticons the just mysteriously disappeard are the ones that made the cartoon what it was, nearly every single episode and autobot or decepticon was there and no one knew why where they were how they got there or anything.

Ironhide died in the movie we all knew he was shot in the Deception ambush in the second war. But what happened to Gears, Mirage, and the other dinobots Swoop, Slag, Sludge and Snarl. (those are the names I'm not kidding) you'd see Grimlock here and there but rarely with the dinobots.

No one truly knows if they stayed on earth when Optimus went back to Cybertron or did they die in the war like IronHide. I like Hot Rod the second Trans Am in the series. (Traks was blue with the flame on his hood and the accent in New York from season two I believe.) They should have killed off BumbleBee instead he was so pointless.

Rodimus Prime was not a bad leader like he thought he was his heart wasn't in it and that was kind of frustrating he complained too much. And there specific humans that blamed him for things that weren't his fault after he saved their butts really. He did whine a lot now that I think about it.

After the death of Optimus the never should have tried to bring him back.』

    (I am with dlgood. . . .)
『Remeber when you ran home from the bus stop to catch the next episode of the Transformers? You watched and were moved by Optimus Prime's honor and sense of committment? You looked to see what maniacal devilry Megatron was going to get into? You looked forward to the melees that Prime and Megatron would get into and how the Autobots would topple the Decepticons?

Well that is all missing in these episodes so don't worry about being engaged.

Dlgood is right when he critiques this season as it was more of a menagerie of ideas and a commercial for the toyline than a well written continuation of a series with epic beginnings.

Although I am a TransFan and love them still (in my 30s) I really never loved these episodes when I was a kid. So much so that I had written the entirely different plotline and explanation with companion RPG to boot (at age 10 nonetheless), but alas I digress. I just really looked at them for the artistic qualities. Thus the best drawn episodes are the ones that I like to this day. To me, WebWorld, Call of the Primitives, The Killing Jar, Madman Paradise, some parts of Money is Everything and Dweller in the Depths are my favorites. If you are looking to compare the orignal 3 disc series to this then don't because these episodes are very poorly written.

It seems that budding writers who needed work got the job on these and dlgood is right we he/she speaks of the bad animation, poor plots, and other issues, but I got these because of the aforementioned episodes and because I am a completist.

If you are looking for a good storyline then skip these and go for the originals from Maverick (UK) and the second season from Rhino.

    Consider this a warning.』

(You heard it too, didn't you....The Voice of the Wind.)
『Four years have passed since the battle of Sekigahra. On that day a legend was born....Demon Eyes Kyo.."The Thousand Man Slayer"
Since then he has lain dormant inside the body of a medicine man..a healer named Kyoshiro Mibu but now Demon Eyes Kyo has awakened and the future as it was meant to be will now be forever changed.<--Intro
As for myself this was a good series 3 1/2 or 4 stars. This series comes in a "Lite Box" which is all 6 discs inside a normal sized DVD case and a single divider, each disc overlaps the other. The format is an anamorphic W/S transfer&the voices are well done except for Benetora who reminds me of a bad George Bush impersonation. The outakes are somewhat comical just do not watch them before watching that disc as they are clips from what is about to come.
You will not be blown away by the animation as it is several years old but still it is very well done...deep blues..rich greens. I did not notice any CGI to speak of I would classify them more as "Special Effects".
The story itself is nicely done..to start with Kyoshiro is being hunted by a bounty hunter because he ate and ran leaving behind the bill. Just as the bounty hunter catches up with Kyoshiro so does a warrior whom begins to beat on Kyoshiro and not until severly beaten does Kyo's personality come to the surface. That is when you find out that Kyo has his own body to which he must find in order to return to it. While on that journey others join him and they learn that there are 5 legendary weapons, weapons so perfect that a Master can only produce one in his lifetime. Only when all 5 are joined together can history be restored to its true path.
I will not break down the whole story for you but having the name "The Thousand Man Slayer" you have made alot of enemies.
There is a lot of action but not tons of gore. This has a dark feel to it and while you are solving one problem it leads to another...who is pulling who's strings yet all the time it is part of the underlying plot. Characters are well developed and almost everyone you meet plays and important part.
As I said I found this a very entertaining Samurai tale set in the 1600's. There are monsters...magical weapons. Kind of Fantasy/Samurai. The story moves forward and does not get bogged down at any point and the sound is nicely done...you do Not hear the sound of a gong (thankgod) when someone gets hits on the head only once or twice did I see the "Noodle Arms" effect.
I have seen it twice and for me the replay was good..I still found myself interested all the way through on the second viewing.
This is something I would suggest if you are interested in a serious story. This is not slapstick nor stand alone episodes it requires a persons attention. So if you get bored because there is not 20 minutes of action out of a 22 minute episode then this is not for you.』

『During the epic battle of Sekigahara, two samurai face off outside of history. The heated duel between Kyoshiro and Demon Eyes Kyo is interrupted when a falling star slams into the plains, shattering the ground and engulfing both of them. Years later, Kyoshiro, now a medicine man, wanders the land with a forgotten past. Hidden deep inside him is the soul of his old opponent, Kyo, slayer of a thousand men. When the bounty hunter Yuga and Kyoshiro are thrown into battle, the medicine man s friendly personality retreats, and the world learns why Kyo is called a demon.』

(Easily one of the best child romance, school life, and slice-of-life anime ever!!!)
『I've heard of certain Funimation flops that do well in Japan and are well-recieved critically, but... are financially a flop because not enough people in the U.S. are aware, appreciative, or just flat-out care about this type of show.

Kodocha (anagramical summaration for Kodomo-no-Omocha/a.k.a. A Child's Toy) is a story about a SUPER-hyperactive girl and her everyday life through life at it's highest and lowest moments.

Sana is, by far, one of the most energetic anime heroines EVERRR! So energetic that the word: "energetic" probably can't even describe it!
She is an aspiring child actor who is egoless as much as she is energetic, making her one of the VERY FEW hyper anime characters that's not annoying, but rather endearing.

She has a quarrel with one of the bad apples, Akito, and tries to best him, and ends up helping him in a way that forever affects him... She treats it like it's no big deal, but for him... he can't express how grateful and happy he is to her.

Sana thinks of Akito in a dual manner: One side of her thinks of him as a mortal enemy (and I say this in the most humorous of intentions), and the other side of her thinks of him as an eternal best friend.

With this as the initial premise of the story, we go through life in the eyes of kids. Rarely sappy, always fun(ny), sometimes confusing, and emotionally affecting.

(For spoiler reasons I've subtracted, to the best of my abilities, all of the details leading the events I've specified.)

As for the product itself: It contains the first 6 DVDs of the original releases, spanning from eps 1-24, handling the first 2 story arcs, and adding a fun recap episode, and some great slice-of-lifers.

The audio options are English 5.1, Stereo, and Japanese Stereo. You might think that a 5.1 seems unnecessary for this type of show, but believe me! IT IS A HUGE BONUS!
Dubbing is handled by Funimation. Funimation is widely known for their adaptable reversioning on Dragon Ball Z, their legendary voice work for Fullmetal Alchemist, and for their super accurate adapation of the life affecting Mushi-Shi.
Here we see more of an interpretation than an accurate dub effort. That doesn't mean, by a long shot, that it's on of their inferior works!

Laura Bailey shows some of the best talents an English VA can do. Her fast paced speech is PERFECTION for Sana's character. COMPLETE PERFECTION!!! Need further proof? Watch the 1st episode!
Jerry Jewell initially disturbed viewers with his low-pitched tone, that some thought was too deep to pass as a kid. If you continue though, you'll find that his voice connects quite... pleasingly... It's an (extremely fast) acquired taste, so no worries with that issue.

Extra's include textless opener, interviews with the director, and commentaries with Collen Clinkenbeard, and Laura Bailey. The commentaries were especially interesting, since you see how much fun they had with the series, in both dubbing and in actually watching it!

Kodocha is an overlooked anime that NEEDS much more attention than it already has.
Buying this is a no-brainer, and, while it may seem like a Saturday morning cartoon, it has some of the best insights of child life that NO cartoon, American or Japan, has!』

    (Worth having)
『I enjoyed this Anime collection very much. You can find other reviews that will tell you all you could want to know about the story and content. So in summation it was amusing, some thought provoking content and enjoyable.』

(Hyperactive comedy that's worth a look)
『Kodocha is likely one of the best anime I've seen. Everything is very inspired, and you'll always look forward to what's going to happen next. Contrary to what the beginning of the first episode may lead you to believe, there are some genuine serious moments, but they're very well-done. Of course, funny moments break things up for the better.

Kodocha succeeds with over-the-top humor, likeable characters and a heart of gold. Give it a look.』

(Kodocha a.k.a. Marmalade Boy on crack!)
『To be fair to this wonderful early 90's anime series, I will give it 5 stars to counter the other harsh 1 star review. (I would have honestly given it 4 stars, otherwise.) The series itself should be given 5 stars, but this review is also for the Funimation DVD translation and contents, therefore, 4 stars.

I'll start with the series itself:

I am a huge fan of Kodocha and it's possibly one of my favorite anime series of all time. That's no easy task as I have seen many, many anime series and am quite selective about quality; not popularity. Kodocha is one of few anime capable to make me cry so hard. It can also effectively make me laugh as hard. Sometimes, both, simultaneously! I can say with confidence that not many anime can (and will) match Kodocha when it comes to the department of wackiness and variety. It covers various topics ranging anywhere from love, pregnancy, friendship, child abuse, homelessness to relationship with parents. I would like to go on and on about how wonderful and brilliant this series is but I also don't want to write an essay.

Now on with the Funimation DVD contents:

Regarding the gripe about the missing first season opening, Funimation apparently couldn't get the rights to use Tokio (performer of the opening song). Also, in the first episode, the reason some dialog was bleeped out is because one of the members of Tokio was mentioned. No big deal.

The dub and translation is where this release struggles the most. I'll be honest and say I'm no dub fan. Regardless, I understand the purpose of dub and can appreciate a good dub when I hear it. Laura Bailey is probably one of the most talented female voice actress out there for anime. She does a wonderful job filling the role of the main character, Sana Kurata. It's unfortunate to say that other characters are simply tragic. I'll just leave it at that. And the translation itself have some flaws mentioned by the other reviewer.

Regardless of some of the flaws, giving this wonderful series "1-star" is unwarranted since these flaws are easily avoided if watched in it's original language. This Funimation release isn't perfect by any means, but the quality of the series itself is definitely worth the price of this box set. Twenty-seven hyperactive, engaging, humorous, wacky, emotional roller coaster episodes for $40-something? Honestly, what are you waiting for?

    (Pass on Kodocha)
『Even though the storyline is cute, I cannot recommend this title. Funimation advertises Kodocha (properly, Kodomo no Omocha, which translates as Child's Toy) as being uncut. However, the original opening animation and music has been completely removed and replaced with the animation and music from the second season. In addition, about 25 seconds of Japanese dialogue is silenced in the first episode. I mean exactly that. There is no audio, and several words in the subtitles are replaced with Xs. Funimation stipulates contract necessities, but has never elaborated further, and refuses to do so.

Regarding the dub version, there is at least one word that has been purposely mistranslated. When Sana is talking with her hairdresser, she refers to Rei, her manager, in Japanese, as her boyfriend and her pimp. In the dub, Rei becomes her boyfriend and a very taken man. Earlier in the episode, Sana refers to Rei as her pimp, in Japanese, and "agent" is substituted for the word "pimp" in the English. When I brought up this discrepancy on the Funimation boards, a representative of Funimation protested that the studio translated everything accurately, in the subtitles and the dub. Naturally, concerning the evidence, this assertion is an impossibility.

Watching the dub with the subtitles activated was illuminating and served as convincing evidence why subtitles, in general, are preferable to dubbing. Not only was the English dialogue far different (especially when you consider the dropping of Sana's pimp reference, a classic bit of the show's humor) than the subtitles, English dialogue was introduced even when nothing was being said in the Japanese, and sometimes when something in Japanese was spoken, it was not represented in the English language dialogue at all. This has the effect of drastically altering the tone of several scenes. Another pimp reference in the English dialogue is simply omitted, and a string of "I love you" is substituted in its place, thus effectively neutering Sana's idiosyncratic introduction of Rei to the audience. These are only a few examples. I can only conclude that the original script was treated as a mere list of suggestions and not even a guide, because the English dialogue sometimes in no way represented what was communicated in Japanese (and what was communicated in Japanese was, in nearly all circumstances, more artfully rendered than the bastardized English language dub interpretation).

I'd avoid this title. Had I known all that had been altered, I never would have picked it up.

『Sana Kurata may be a famous TV star, yet her life is anything but perfect! And it seems as if the only time this 11-year-old superstar isn't causing trouble is when she s trying to fix it. But even then, there is bound to be some sort of chaos! From feuding friends and neighborhood nuisances to tabloid reporters, classroom battles and scripted kisses, Sana has got her hands full. And just as her career takes an unexpected nose dive, the book she has worked so hard to publish looks to do more harm than good.

But life's hardest lesson lies just around the corner, and Sana is gonna have to realize there are some problems that just can t be fixed. Will the distraught diva come to her senses before it s too late? Or will tragedy breed tragedy? Find out on Kodocha!』

    (Chrono Crusade Review)
『Well a brief summary of Chrono Crusade is thT it is the 1920's and along with all the prosperity of the time immorality comes along with it and satanism is on the rise. Their is a special task force for this job, the Magdalen Order, who are are a trained group of exorcist that operate under the Catholic Church. The main characters are Sister Rosette, a little bit clumsy elite exorcist, with her soul bound demon, Chrono, and a girl Azmaria. They travel around and fight and vanquish these demons and evil creatures all while they are searching for Rosette's brother Joshua.

This is a pretty good show although it takes a little while to get started and explain itself, but definitely worth watching. *****』

    (Chrono Crusade)
『Not nearly as good as the manga. Thanks to their loss of funding, Ayres and Carsrud rushed through the middle and end of the anime, losing sight of the manga's story. Despite adoring the manga and its story, I also enjoyed this anime and its story. If you're picky about what animes you watch, give this one a shot. I am very picky, and this one touched me in a way most animes have never done. I wish there was more of this brilliant series.』

    (WOW!!! Get this one!)
『This is a great anime. Religious viewers may find this a bit of a stretch. I too am religious and I just took the story for what it was. It is a story of true love between a devil (Chrono) and a human (Rosette) and their search for her brother (Joshua). In the end I believe the devil and human end up discovering that nothing matters accept how they feel about one another.
I will not take the time to go into the full details of this story; there are other reviews that let you know what this anime is all about. I definitely recommend this anime to anyone that loves a fun in your face kind of anime. Just a warning, you will definitely shed a tear toward the end of this anime. Please do yourself a favor and get this one.

(If your looking at this, than buy it!!)
『First, there is no reason to pass this Anime up. If you liked Hellsing, than you will like this. I can't say enough about this Anime. I bought all the books, while I was deployed to Iraq, and I bought one DVD to see if I would like the show. After that, I couldn't stop buying it, until I owned the whole set. This box set is wonderful, I own it. It's good art work, of course you lose the extras, but I never really watch them anyway, so no big deal. The story is awesome, and the action is really good. If you like Hellsing, or even Cowboy Bebop, than you will like this show.』

    (Just Okay... Not wicked good)
『When I started watching it, I didn't get into it at all. The story is a little bit too slow and boring. So I stopped watching it for like 2 months then I decided to give it another chance. It got a lot better in the later episodes. But still...It's not the best anime out there, not the best story-line either.』
『Studio: Adv Films Release Date: 11/01/2005 Run time: 650 minutes』
『The offbeat supernatural adventureChrono Crusadetakes place in 1928, when the hedonistic culture of Prohibition-era New York has fueled a rise in Satanism. Sister Rosette of the Magdalene Order is a klutzy, gun-toting exorcist-cum-devil-hunter who wrecks her period cars, blows up the wrong buildings, and generally adds to the headaches of her superiors. Her level-headed partner Chrono tries to rein her in and minimize the damage. He's a devil (literally), but he's bound to Rosette by psychological and magical ties. The supporting cast includes a lecherous inventor who peeks up Rosette's habit; handsome Father Remington; Azmaria, a mysteriously powerful girl who adores Rosette; and the formidable head of the Magdalene Order, Sister Kate (who doesn't shimmy).

Chrono Crusadewas adapted from a long-running manga by Daisuke Moriyama, and its biggest weakness is the central character. Rosette is a screechy, clumsy comic heroine, but she and the Magdalene Order are all that's keeping the devil Aion from realizing his nefarious plot to remake the universe.Chrono Crusadefeels like someone dropped Lina Inverse fromSlayersintoHellsing: it's too dark to be funny, but too silly to take seriously. Although many anime series depict battles against devils and demons, the constant references to holy water, God, the Vatican, etc. inChrono Crusademay offend religious viewers, especially Catholics. (Crowmartie High School)
『Crowmartie is hilarious. I wish there were more anime as offbeat, quirky, abstract brand of comedy as this. I loved Excell Saga when it came out but in the years since, there has been few and far between with Crowmartie's flavor. This definately satisfied that need.』

    (Great overall)
『While the shipping did take some time, it did come within the expected time. The DVD itself is hilarious.』

    (funnist)
『the funny anime ever just funny nonsence. if you like sealab and havent seen this check it out.』

    (A hilarious anime.)
『This anime is one of my favorites and cracks me up all the time. It is the mini-pack edition, so it doesn't come with much extra stuff, but I don't mind it. While I understand it is certainly not for everyone, this one has great humor.』

    (not for everyone)
『I bought this set based on the other glowing reviews so perhaps I had an overly high expectation. As I didn't find this that funny, I wanted to write this dissenting review. Overall, I found this anime to be boring and I almost fell asleep several times.

The type of humor consists of:
    1. a long setup followed up by a sudden incongruity. For example, the straight character will describe how he expects to see a great tough guy, who is super tough, and everyone is scared and he is scared, and how this guy must be incredible, etc... he slides open the door, and it is... a Gorilla. wha???? (Gorilla can be replaced by Freddie, from Queen, look-alike, or a robot, or an alien, a horse, et. al.)
    2. repetition of something really inane. For example, as described in another review, a song that is being hummed... and everyone, I mean Everyone is caught up in trying to identify the song.
    3. inability to get something done - for example, to say one's name, to practice baseball, to not throw up, to go to the bathroom, etc.
    4. over-analysis of humor and the inability to appreciate humor... (um, does this review count?)

Well, that's the basic type of humor - absurd but, in my opinion, too shallow. Most of the action is a talking head type of shot (like 80%) - hence my qualification that this is barely an anime (as self-referenced in the beginning of the show). To be fair, I did laugh a few times, but it was rare. And you may very well enjoy this anime, but it is not for everyone.

Also, note that the episodes are about 12-15 minutes long. The actual show is like 8-10 minutes long with the rest being credits and a short preview of the next episode.』

『Japan's smartest comedy is totally stupid --- and maybe that's why we love it so! Based on Eiji Nanaka's award-winning manga, CROMARTIE HIGH SCHOOL is an absurdist romp through Japan's toughest, most notorious reform school. Populated by a motley crew of thugs, misfits, and the occasional gorilla, it won over legions of Japanese late night TV viewers. Now through this super affordable thin-pack, Japan's #1 comedy is soon to become North America's favorite funny anime. "A+" (Anime on DVD)』

    (Action packed Anime!)
『Alright, I'll admit it, I like action movies. I also like giant fighting robots like in Battletech and Mechwarrior. Based on what others have said, I'm more than likely going to enjoy watching this. Yes, my foray into Anime continues and I greatly enjoyed this action packed series. The series began on fairly loose footing, but by the end I was sucked into it. I won't pretend that Burst Angel is going to revolutionize the industry or even has a wildly new kind of story line, I won't even say it's worth the full five stars, but I think it's a strong 4/4.5 (so I'm rounding up since Amazon doesn't let me rate something in halves). If you're looking for a really fun anime to watch that's action packed, I would definitely recommend this. It's not the kind that makes you sit down and question existence or anything profound, although towards the end they do have a bit of that, but for the most part it's pretty straightforward.

Welcome to a future Tokyo that is mostly in shambles. Citizens can legally carry guns to defend themselves and society has simply degenerated. The organization RAPT has been called in to "police" the city, but their motives are almost anything but dealing out justice. Instead they look upon the populace as their little area to conduct strange biological/technical experiments. It feels like there are only four people ready to stand against RAPT and they make up the main team for Burst Angel. Granted some new friends step into the ring from Osaka as things escalate.

The primary fighter is Jo and her Cybot Jango. She has a mysterious past, but has a huge purpose and destiny to fulfill. The series mainly focuses around her character, especially since she basically does all the fighting... and this is an action Anime of course. Then we have Meg, who was a character I really didn't like at first, and granted she is kind of useless, but I really did end up enjoying her in the end. Basically she's more there for comic relief and it seems like she's always getting captured. I really did wish she had some serious fighting skills, like martial arts of something to go with Jo's intense gun wielding prowess. I smiled with pleasure during the episode when the old guy enhanced her warrior chi; I was hoping she would stay in that mode! Alas, my wish was not granted, however, she does seem to have a bit of a purpose in performing a lot of reconnaissance missions for the team. She's also one of the main characters that adds the "sexiness" into the show with her practically "bursting" out of her clothes, if you will, for an animated person at least. I did really like the comic relief she provided when interacting between the other characters though. I tend to like this humor a lot more because it's based around wit rather than solely on slap-stick humor where characters are falling all over the place or what have you. Although, I have to point out I really didn't get her outfit. I know she was American, but what's with the cowboy styled outfit? In her background story she's from New York. (Yes I know people from New York can dress like that if they choose, but it's hardly a defining element of that region.) That's really the primary thing that made no sense to me. The youngest member of the team is Amy. She's certainly not to be underestimated, because she's actually the computer hacker genius of the group and in a technological charged world of this Tokyo, she's absolutely essential. She was really funny to watch interact with the others, especially when she gives Meg a hard time! The final member of this four angel team is Sei, heir to the Bai-Lan organization and basically the source of all their funding. She's basically the voluptuous organizer behind all their missions that get directed through Bai-Lan. Now the stage is set for action to start!

The opening episode was sort of loosely put together and I thought the show was going to focus more on the misadventures of Kiyohei, the aspiring pastry chef. But that was more of a random chance meeting between him and Jo to preface the fact he would be hired as a cook for the girls. The bizarre thing is he ends up going on a few missions here and there with them. Considering he's usually afraid of most of those intense situations, I always wondered why... I assume it's for the general comedic factor. Anyway, there isn't a huge amount of character development, but this is an action film. You do get into the characters a little more and their backgrounds do get explained for the most part, which I thought was really awesome and interesting. For example, Jo likes to spend her free time watching a lot of grotesque horror movies, but is otherwise very unemotional about almost everything except when fighting. Other than that there isn't a huge amount of depth to the characters until you really get to the end with the tragic ending, but it really is a blockbuster ending for sure! There are a lot of story arcs based on government intrigue and what seems like average missions turns into so much more throughout the series.

I have to say I did enjoy the animation in this. I really appreciated the character designs a lot, because it didn't rely on overly busty females being put in provocative situations. Rather Jo is average sized and should be for her role! I think this was a smart move because you're not going to have a single audience group watching it for that reason. The Mech's were awesomely designed though, and Jango was one of the coolest. Granted it's completely unrealistic for robots of that size to pull off some of the martial arts maneuvers Jo does with Jango... but this is animated after all. All the monsters had a really cool and strange design, at least different from most of the monsters I'm used to viewing.

If you like an action packed anime then I definitely have to recommend this. It has just enough comic relief throughout the show to make you laugh when it comes up, which made me glad because sometimes these shows can be overly saturated with such things. The writing does take a serious tone most of the time as the characters try to overcome new obstacles and new missions. I was also surprised at the low levels of gore, there were some parts that were pretty violent and bloody, but nothing compared to something like Elfen Lied. The box set is wonderfully designed and comes with six booklets of character overviews. These include sketches of the characters, some backgrounds, weapons detail or common items the character has. It was a really awesome addition to the box set and I'm really glad they included that. So, are you ready to fight with the Angels now?』

    (Locked, loaded, and amazingly cool!)
『It's not often that there's truth in advertising these days...but when it comes to "Burst Angel" the reviews hit home. This anime is excellent on all fronts. Visual effects, story, drama, comedy, action, and most importantly...hot chicks in skimpy outfits and big guns. Studio Gonzo really outdid themselves on this series.

Admittedly I was a bit put off to buy this one when I first heard about it but I got the first two discs of the series and was hooked in. However I didn't have the time or money for a long time to purchase the rest of the series. Finally the boxed set came out and I said, "Ah, why not." and picked it up. It was WELL worth it.

The box is really nice looking with a metallic sheen that really sells the whole imagery, which is equally complimented by the amazing artwork of Ugetsu Hakua. Inside the box are two smaller boxes, all decorated with more of Hakua's stunning art. One box has all the guide books for each disc that you normally get with the single discs. This is unlike usual boxed sets, in a good way. The discs come in a special 6 disc case which is pretty well designed to not take up the massive space the whole collection would if you just bought the single discs. Each disc has loads of extras and everything you'd expect from a series of its caliber.

My vote: BUY IT! For any fan of giant robots, sci-fi, westerns, gun slinging on a matrix-esque playing field, and did I mention the hot chicks in skimpy outfits and big guns?』

『How I wanted to love this show, but I just couldn't, there was something missing from it, and I think the fanservice was tame, too tame, like, there was none to speak of, I gave this show some chances, but I am done with it, I wouldn't buy it, and I stopped renting it, its too bad』

    (Good anime)
『It's a good series with light stories, there were one or two episodes where there are a little more 'fan service' than you'll expect from this series and it actually threw off one of the characters out of well.. 'character'. The animation is good and the 3d robots blend well with the 2d backgrounds and characters.』

    (good anime)
『Yeah, this is pretty good animation. All the classic scenarios ... mutants, mecha and mayhem! Alot of action, some great fun and a descent story. Well worth the price for a complete box set. However, I haven't finished watching the whole set, so keep that in mind.』
