Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (If you're new to the Lodoss mythos, this box set likely won't convert you.) 『Record of Lodoss War / 1586640046
I'm given to understand that this box set builds off of a long-standing mythos, and since I'm new to the Lodoss world, please take this review as such: the perspective of someone who picked this up at a used film store because it looked interesting and I have a growing appreciation for anime as a genre. If, on the other hand, you're a long-standing fan of the Lodoss universe, then this review isn't going to be very useful in evaluating whether or not you want to buy this box set and I refer you to the several other wonderful reviews here that review this box set from that perspective, as opposed to an outsider's perspective.
Having said all that, if you are new to the Lodoss mythos, I think it's safe to say that this boxed series isn't going to convert you into a fan. Without mincing words, the series is just plain dull, and that's not an accusation I level lightly. There's a *massive* amount of "filler" here - the starting credits and ending credits alone seem to take up more screen time than the actual 'episodes' (and you can't skip past them because each episode is a single DVD chapter, so you have to fast forward each time which, believe me, gets old fast). Once you get into the actual episode, there's a beginning recap each time, an ending teaser, and a bizarre "second half of the show" that features cartoonish, child-like versions of the main characters making silly puns in voices so shrieky and high-pitched I was afraid our windows would shatter. I usually prefer English dubbing, but we had to switch to the original Japanese for these "second half" sections, because the voices were slightly more bearable. And the jokes aren't even funny or amusing - they're just puns in Japanese that no longer make any sense in English.
So having established that the *actual* episode is, in fact, criminally short, is it at least good? No. The storyline over the entire four discs is always a derivative, D&D-style "travel here and kill bad guys". The bad guys are *never* complex or interesting in any way - with the exception of Ashram, they are all cartoonishly evil jerks who slaughter the innocent for fun and oppress their own troops. (Ashram, the one 'complex' villain is 'complex' by virtue of being moody and indecisive.) The good guys, by contrast, are all good, all the time. King Kashue of Flaime, for example, could have been an interesting personality - he's a 'good' king, but he still desires power and 'a unified Lodoss' at least as much as Ashram does, and some interesting points could have been explored there, but they never are because good guys are all perfect gods in human form and whatever decisions they make are for our own good. Ergo, Ashram's unified Lodoss idea is bad because he's evil and Kashue's unified Lodoss idea is good because he's virtuous. Brand new characters teleport mysteriously into the action, often when cannon fodder is needed, and character motivation will change radically whenever the plotline calls for it, so ultimately all the characters feel like interchangeable pawns in an extremely dull chess game.
Storylines are often simplified in order to make room for other things, but Lodoss' utterly derivative story seems to have been simplified and cut in order to make way for dull voice-overs. Despite the subject matter, there is a dearth of actual action, and what action is here is dull and badly animated. Battles are fought by stringent D&D-style rules (one group of sorcerers laments that they can't go into battle without at least one warrior to protect them while they cast spells), but the animators couldn't be bothered, so "battles" consist of close-up shots of a magic user casting a spell ("Manna of all creation..."), with a follow-up shot of their victim grimacing. Sword battles are rendered by drawing two fighters facing each other, and every five or six seconds they raise their swords and bring them back down again jerkily - I've seen animation by amateur Photoshop users that was more detailed than this.
If you can forgive the simplistic storyline and the battles being too few, too short, and too amateurish, you'll probably find that the characters are equally simple and poorly fleshed out. Aside from the 100% good / 100% evil dilemma, characters are frustratingly stupid at times (like when everyone fails to savvy up to the fact that if there is only ONE sacrificial virgin that is acceptable as a sacrifice to bring about the apocalypse and if it's crucial that she MUST remain a virgin, then maybe the best answer to avoiding the apocalypse is less 'traipse all over creation avoiding capture' and more 'spend some quiet time with that young knight she keeps mooning over') and are more often than not saved - for no reason - by ridiculous deus ex machina conventions ('The king dragon saved us! You remember - *the* king dragon! The one we've never mentioned before and will never mention again? That one!'). Even the voice acting is terribly done, with several characters sounding flat and the dialogue so badly inflected that I began to wonder if the "English" dubs were performed by people who didn't understand what they were reading - it's cringe worthily bad.
When it comes to anime and D&D, I have ridiculously low standards, because I enjoy the genres enough that pretty much anything will please me. There are a lot of things Lodoss could have done to draw me in, despite it's faults - if the character had been more complex, I could have forgiven the terrible battles; if the battles had been rendered better, I could have ignored the simplistic storyline; if the storyline had been longer and better characterized, I could have forgiven the terrible, flat voice acting and the shrill "second half" insanity. All together, though, I simply could not enjoy Lodoss War and was extremely relieved when we finally finished it. If you're a huge fan of Lodoss, this will probably feel like a decent tribute to a great mythos that you enjoy, but if there's no nostalgia here to lighten the faults a bit, you likely won't enjoy this at all.』
(I unbiasedly liked this one.) 『I actually watched this one (Heroic Knight) "out-of-order" (having bought it BEFORE the original Record of Lodoss War). I genuinely liked it, and feel it stands well on its own two feet.
I partly wanted to watch it on its own because I didn't want to prejudice or bias my review by having seen the "prequel" first (some folks had griped that it was different from or not as good as the original). IE, I didn't want to have anything to compare it to, or for it to have to "best in mortal combat."
If taken on its own, and under its own power, it appears to be internally consistent, has decent animation. Though I like the opening credits animation BETTER than the animation of the series itself. If they'd used animation similar to opening credits throughout the series I'd have LOVED the series. Honestly the opening credit artwork is pretty cool. But just on its own merits I liked the series. It looks and feels like a fantasy epic. Perhaps not AS sweeping as some others out there. There were a few bad voice acting moments in the opening episodes (episode2, especially, with Parn, if I recall right), but that clears up by the time the series really gets going. So I won't dock them for it. Call it opening night jitters.
I'd say that if you like "fantasy anime," this one's decent. Haven't seen many to compare it to yet. But as I said, on its own merits it's pretty good, for what it is. I'd have no qualms recommending buying it.』
(The Lodoss War Series...(Spoliers)) 『Their are spoilers in this review, so don't read if you want to look at the series with "fresh eyes", as it were.
This review will be simple, and to-the-point.
First the good, then the bad.
The good:
This arrived in GREAT SHAPE, and arrived early!
The series comes on 4 DVDs, and the packaging presentation is very professional.
The price, at $34.95, was a GREAT value (And even BETTER VALUE when you get the OVA boxed set of 13 episodes in the same order, for under $80!).
Deedlit and Parn, they are great charachters to watch, with great voice actors, they are always good...
The bad:
Not ENOUGH Deedlit and Parn...what a shame...this series should have been about D and P with more adventures, until the very end...
ALl of a sudden, on Disc B, all the charachters voices are changed! And their actors are terrible to the originals!
Also, all of a sudden, the main cast completes their quest all too early, then switches to a new rag tag group you have never met before (except seeing Spark as a child earlier on...)
Deedlit and Parn never kiss, after going through all of that together, not even one kiss...this is a serious lack of closure for me, as a big fan of Lodoss War.
The new crew that takes over after Parn and the others is pretty annoying at first, especially that punk Spark. Man, I hate his charachter...
Compared to the OVA, the animation, while not terrible, suffers in the quality department.
I hated the ending, it should have been about Deedlit and Parn, not Spark and his group!
In spite of the faults, the incredible value elevates this to FOUR stars out of FIVE. To think, fo years, they sold this same set for nearly $130!
Take my advice, wait for the series to lose popularity before buying it, that is what I am doing with Wolf's Rain...once it is $50 or below, I will get my copy of it!
In the end, the OVA is much better, but the series is still worth a watch.
』
(Just buy the cheaper import...) 『I bought the $129.99 original US release of the series and it was costly. I watched and compared it to the original Record of Lodoss War, and I was just surprised how off the series is in a way. Personally, I should have bought the imported version of the series, since they're much cheaper and the US release isn't even worth it much. In a way, I regret buying the US release, but don't get me wrong, I still liked the series, although the Remastered Edition of the original Record of Lodoss is much better in detail and animation. The only things wrong with this series and the previous one are some of the bad english dubbing (Man, if you listen to Prince Reonna or whatever his name was in this series, you'll get a good laugh on how pathetic, and mismatched his voice-over really is; picture a large, broad blonde man speaking like as if he was a short or rather weak man).』
(re: Avoid entirely) 『I just watched this with friend and family, and we're all very confused. None of us are constant anime followers, but we aren't novices either.
The story is simple enough, but there are considerable loopholes and bad characters.
Despite what the editorial reviewer from Amazon says, King Kashue does NOT idolize Parn, it's PARN who "idolizes" Kashue. Kashue is fond of Parn, but does not idolize.
Here's the lowdown: the first DVD chapters 1-14 tries to focus on Parn, who is a simplistic village boy, son of a Heroic Knight of some distant war. Parn grew up in the same village with Etoh, the cleric. Meets up with the High Elf Deedlit, and the Enchanter Slayn and Ghim the dwarf.
They almost save the village from random total annhilation by possess goblins and Parn barely wins his first experience one-on one melee with the lead goblin. From there, this groupgoes on a series of seemingly random adventures. They have a loose collective idea to go meet an Archmage named Wort.
Viewers are introduced to the uber-bad guys, the Black Knight (who's name we don't learn until episode 12, Ashram) his little gang that includes a powerful mage and some powerful fighter that we learn in episode 17 is Emperor Beld and the mage ended up being the central player named Wagnard. We learn HIS name in episode 24. The "Hero", Parn, ends up saving the elf girl from some nonsensical plot that I won't reveal in any "spoiler".
Main complaints: it's slow and boring. Too much talk. For example: the hero group (Parn, etc), spends three frames and two episodes talking about the Forest of No Return; and they "return in less than ten minutes?" It also didn't make sense how they returned. They just fell out of the forest into another more normal forest (!) The prologue did not connect with the rest of the story and they kept injecting it in the story. They didn't' have a map, so the viewers had no sense of the kingdoms or alliances. They built the story of Wort and getting to him up and then used the Heroes' adventure there in a flashback? the whole thing with Karla and Wort didn't play for me; it took Wort too long to intervene. Karla switching to the last body didn't make sense either. They took too long to introduce character names and added two new characters in the middle of the story (the Beserker and his companion) for no rhyme or reason. Deedlit's voice was annoying, and it seemed weird that the enemies always picked on her; is she the only High Elf? Who knew? No explanation? Who is Prince Jester? Which group did he belong to? What happened to him after the battles? They focused way too much story time on the two swords, and the dragons. The dragons they built up to, and then they dropped the storyline for three episodes?
The names, by the way, is too funny, it's sad. Couldn't they have come up with better names? They're awful!! Deedlit???[what are those things coming out of her head, ears, or carrots?] Parn? Wort? Wagnard? Sheesh. Woodchuck? Is Etoh a female or male? oh well.
the music was good, the dark elf woman was good looking. Ashram was cool
Avoid, though kids may like this....and TRUE anime fans may also. If you can put up with how slow it is.』 『Five years past, a band of six adventurers defeated the conquering armies of Marmo, the dark island, and saved the accused island, LODOSS. Since that day, the survivors have been honored as heroes, and their deeds have become legends. But the darkness never perished... Now, a mad wizard threatens to raise an ancient evil— the goddess of destruction. Old heroes must heed the call to defend their homeland and new heroes are forged as the battle for LODOSS begins anew.』 『Record of Lodoss Warbegan as a serialized role-playing game inComptiquemagazine in 1986. The story was adapted to novelizations, audio books, and video games, followed by a 13-part OAV (original animation video) series, which was released in two parts in 1990 and 1991. Five years later, the 27-part broadcast series was completed. Although some characters, settings, and incidents appear in both continuities, the OAV and broadcast versions ofLodoss Warwere made independently, and the discrepancies in their sword-and-sorcery narratives can't be reconciled.
The broadcast series is divided into two linked adventures involving the supernatural treasures hidden by the last rulers of the Kingdom of Sorcerers 500 years earlier. The first tale (eight chapters) centers on Parn, the honorable Free Knight, and his High Elf companion Deedlit, the heroes of the OAV series. With some help from an assortment of allies that includes King Kashue of Flaim, an annoying grass sprite, and a berserker mercenary, Parn defeats the megalomaniacal knight Ashram, who seeks to rule a united Lodoss with the Scepter of Domination. The second adventure takes place 10 years later and focuses on Spark, a young Knight-in-Training at the court of King Kashue, who idolizes Parn. Spark and a veritable army of secondary characters battle the evil sorcerer Wagnard, who plots to resurrect the destroyer-goddess Kardis. Kardis will destroy every other living thing in Lodoss, leaving Wagnard to rule an eternal Kingdom of the Dead. From these adventures and Parn's counsel, Spark learns what it means to be a true knight; he wins the respect of his men and the love of his lady. Unfortunately, the story line breaks down in the later episodes, when writer Katsumi Hasegawa seems to lose track of the plot and many of the characters. Ashram returns--despite having fallen into a lava pit in episode 8--but as a noble and prudent ruler. Karla, the ancient gray witch, opposes Wagnard, then allies with him. Several "dei ex machinae" appear at the last minute to save situations. The lapses in the storytelling may help to explain why many fans prefer the shorter OAV series, although both versions offer plenty of ancient prophecies, spells, dragons, duels, star-crossed romances, and apocalyptic threats. The individual episodes are separated by "Trailers," odd little segments in which child versions of the main characters make fun of each other and the story. Unrated. Suitable for ages 13 and up: minor nudity and profanity, considerable violence and grotesque imagery.--Charles Solomon』

This series deals more favorable with the Shinsengumi giving them a more humanized appeal to the viewers and their personal reasons or feelings for which they joined up for. The series also seems to focus more on Tetsu an idealistic young man who feels that if he joins the Shinsengumi group he'll become strong enough to avenge the deaths of his parents and protect his love ones. His older brother Tatsunosuke sees the more realistic points for trying to stop his brother from joining the Shinsengumi as the way he feels now. In the group you will also have some who will either encourage or try to dissuade Tetsu from the path he's on. The animation is great as well as the voice actors they got for this series the video is full-screen with 5.1 English or Japanese audio. The extras aren't much pretty much the usual trailers and intro/ending songs but for the price this great series is well worth it. I will say like some other anime series this is not really a family anime as there is a great deal of violence, bloody deaths, and mature themes some younger family members or friends should see. After you're done with this series I say try watching the Samurai X box set or the Rurouni Kenshin series to see the opposing sides view of the Shinsengumi both these series sets are also very good though with the Samurai X box set I'd advise watching it subbed unfortunately the English voice actors for that set weren't as good as the actors for the Rurouni Kenshin series set.. 』
(Tear jerking) 『This story was great! I laughed. I cried. I hated and loved the bad guy. Sumumu has to be my favortie character next Okita. I have actually watched the whole this twice.』
(Another perspective) 『A large number of anime fans are familiar with Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X, a fictionalized account of the Meiji Revolution from the Loyalist point of view. In Peacemaker Kurogane, we get essentially the same story, only this time from the point of view of the Pro-Tokugawa forces - in particular the Shinsengumi guard, several of whom were supporting characters in the Kenshin franchise - and this rather underated historical actioner is an excellent companion piece to it's more famous counterpart.
It follows the story of the real-life Tetsunosuke Ichimora, age 15. After the brutal murder of his parents at the hands of Loyalists, Tetsu vows to join the Shinsengumi over the objections of his frantic big brother Tatsunosuke. His life becomes entwined with that of other characters both real and fictional, most notably becoming page to the strict Vice Commander Toshizo Hijikata - who doubts Tetsu will have what it takes when the time for battle arrives; and taken under the wing by painfully young Captain Soji Okita, historically documented to have loved children - who is already beginning to show signs of the Tuberculosis which would eventually kill him and perhaps sensing that he doesn't have much time before becoming incapacitated tries to help Tetsu maintain the moral and spiritual innocence that he himself can never get back.
Can Tetsu find his place in the world and strike a balance between Tatsu's potentially emotionally cripling overprotectiveness and the weight on his soul that joining the fight against the Loyalists might entail? Will vengeance rule his heart, or will he become a peacemaker as his parents would have wanted him to be?
An anime that any fan of historical fiction should enjoy.

(Peacemaker - Complete Collection Review) 『If Rurouni Kenshin left you wanting more feudal-era themed anime, then Peacemaker just might scratch that itch. It's got a good plot, memorable characters, and was beautifully animated by Gonzo. You can't go wrong with the animation studio that also worked on Last Exile, Chrono Crusade, and Samurai 7, among others.』
(Really Good) 『After previous reveiws it seems I will have to say this again (and I might as well say it for every review)
BOX SETS NEVER EVER CONTAIN ALL THE FEATURES OF THE INDIVIDUAL DVDS
Box sets are an economical way of seeing the whole series so they aren't supposed to give the extra features that you see in the individual DVDs because you are paying less. I would only suggest that you buy the individual DVDs if you are rich, or on a series that you really, really, really like.
Overall I really liked this series. It's a nice little samurai tale in favor of the Shinsengumi. The characters are solid and don't go over that stupid character dominance thing and they stay true to who they are and everything plays out on a realistic basis (which to me is the best thing an anime can do).
To start you out with the first episode, you see Tetsunosuke Ichicmura running through Mibu (I believe) with a sign advetising the Shinsengumi. As he gets to the clan hall he is not accepted by the guards because he is too short. Later, after being mauled by a little pig, Tetsu meets the famuous Soji Okita (to which Tetsu was unaware of). Tetsu said he wanted to join the Shinsengumi to slice and dice his way through the Choshu and send Soji Okita sprawling. As an apology for the rudeness of the pic (still doesn't know who he is), Soji offers to pull some strings with the Shinsengumi so Tetsu could join. They soon get to the dojo and Soji talks to the commander (I'm not sure what he says there). Some stuff happens and Tetsu finds out that who he met earily was none other than Soji Okita as the commence in a dojo battle. Tetsu gets knocked down a little bit but before they could finish the fight, vice commander Higikata steps in, stops the fight and says that Tetsu can't join the Shinsengumi. Later on Soji and Tetsu have a talk and Soji gives him some information about an ambush on Higikata later on in the night. Tetsu goes, views from afar, and the episode ends at Tetsu seing what it means to be a Shinsengumi.』 『For 15 year-old Tetsunosuke Ichimura, childhood innocence has given way to a blinding thirst for revenge. Haunted by the vicious slaying of his parents, Tetsu joins a group of elite swordsmen to hunt down the rebels who murdered his parents.』 『Set during the troubled times between the arrival of Admiral Perry in 1853 and the Meiji Restoration of 1868,Peacemaker(2003) often feels like a prequel toRurouni Kenshin, but from the politically opposite side. Tetsunosuke "Tetsu" Ichimura initially seems like an anime stereotype: the irrepressible half-pint who wins out through sheer determination. At 15, Tetsu is stubborn and impetuous, but he's wrestling with personal demons. When his older brother Tatsu becomes a bookkeeper for theShinsengumi, a group of samurai the Shogun organized to protect the capital, Tetsu decides to join the quasi-military corps. His resolute spirit charms fey swordsman Souji Okita, who coaxes iron-willed vice-commander Hijikata into accepting the boy as a page. Tetsu becomes the unofficial mascot of the goofy but deadlyroninof theShinsengumi: they call him "Puppy Boy," tease him about being cute, and even speculate that Hijitaka keeps him around for sexual favors. As the series progresses and the conflict with the anti-Shogun forces nears, Tetsu must decide whether to avenge his parents, who were murdered by Imperialist agents, or become a "Peacemaker," as his father desired. The spectacularly choreographed battle scenes show just how grueling a trial Tetsu faces.
Many of the characters and incidents inPeacemakerare based in fact, although the filmmakers take considerable liberties and the story rambles. But it's the interaction of the characters that gives the series its appeal: Even the minor samurai feel like credible individuals. Writer Hiroshi Yamaguchi and director Tomohiro Hirata refuse to offer facile solutions to Tetsu's inner conflict, which givesPeacemakera satisfying depth. The boxed set lacks the many extras--both on video and in print--that were included with the individual discs. The animation is decent and for the series fitting as the show is very dark and supernatural but there is a little graininess in some scenes, also while the Japanese cast did great with their roles sadly with the exception of about four voice actors/actresses the English dub cast were terrible, saying their lines with so little emotional feelings you wonder why they tried for these roles in the first place if they were just going to do a atrocious job of it. The live action movie is pretty decent to but they didn't do any dubbing for the live action movie and I truly appreciate that especially if they were going to use the same actors and actresses from the series. At the end is this box set worth getting for any anime collectors collection, and if you like dark supernatural animes than yes it is but I say wait until the price goes down to around $30 dollars as this set doesn't seem to be worth more than that it seems....』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The world is not beautiful, therefore, it is...) 『Firstly, Kino's Journey would probably best be suited for those who enjoyed other titles such as Gunslinger Girl Box Set - Viridian Collection or Serial Experiments Lain - Boxed Set (Signature Series). It has that "philosophical" feel to it, and there isn't much of a central plot; each episode could stand on its own.
Kino is a female traveler on a journey across the world, accompanied by her talking motorcycle, Hermes. How or why he possesses the power of speech is never revealed, but it doesn't distract from the series. Kino vows to never spend longer than three days in any one country, as she does not want to become attached to or involved with its inhabitants. This is the basic set-up of the entire series, yet each episode, as well as the country its attentions are focused on, is radically different.
This anime contains literally no fan-service whatsoever, except for one episode where a young woman is working on building a plane in her undergarments, but she is alone and the scene is completely tame. This is one of the series' great qualities; Kino herself appears almost androgynous, assuring that the viewers are focusing on nothing but what they should be; the words that she speaks and the sights that she sees. The series also contains not a single hint of romance, and I believe that the most "foul" language to be heard is "damn it", once.
The series doesn't necessarily touch on anything new; one country is dealing with the aftermath of a war, one possesses androids that serve humans, one causes Kino to wonder whether or not she is merely a character in a story written by someone else, etc. However, the way that Kino deals with the situations she encounters is what makes this anime truly remarkable. She is compassionate toward those who are kind and lacks sympathy when dealing with those who are not, yet also retains an air of detachment no matter what the circumstance. Kino's Journey never becomes overly emotional or sentimental, with the exception of the final scenes of episode thirteen. That may tug at the heartstrings a bit. The series is incredibly mature, with tidbits of humor thrown into the conversations between Kino and Hermes. Action-sequences are scarce.
The series' soundtrack is superb, with an uplifting opening theme and beautiful closing theme. However, there are instances where the mood of the end of an episode doesn't quite fit with the more positive tone of the closing theme, but that can be overlooked. The background music is great as well, at times even haunting.
The art of Kino's Journey is refreshingly different, but the background art can be a bit lackluster at times. It is easy to tell characters apart, and you'll always know which of them is Kino.
In conclusion, Kino's Journey is an overlooked gem that deserves more recognition than it has received. It's a pleasant change from some of the more intensely philosophical and intellectual anime out there, in that you can watch an episode or two without having to overthink anything. You aren't left wondering about plot points or a character's outcome; the only thing that this series really makes you think about, in my opinion, is your own role in the world. The series is not trying to depress you, it is not trying to confuse you, it is merely trying to make you think.
Highly recommended.』

Excuse my English, I'll try to do my best. Story line is 99% same as the book. nothing new or indepth story line. Some of the still shots are exactly the same as the manga. But it contains so much empty stares and still moments (reminds me of Dragon Ball series) it is really annoying. Even the characters movement sometimes is unrealistically slow (ie, standing up from a chair or reaching for something) When it "finally" gets to action sequences, movements gets little better, but not much. And again, empty stares while groaning and yelling, (charaters just stands there and groans and makes mean faces when they should move on to the next sequence) It really cuts the flow of the movie and makes me yell "What the fvck are they doing!!!!!" Like I said before, 2 books worth of storyline stretched into freaking SIX DVDs..
Next complaint is the Illustration Quality. It just SUCKS. Not much effort went into the drawing of this animation. Characters sometimes appear cross-eyed and out of proportion. Their shapes constantly change. Eventhough some CG's were used for background, they aren't that good. This animation reminds me of poorly funded TV anime series from 90's.
Oh, by the way, Comicbook Season 1 (which is known as Phase 1) does not correspond with Animation Season 1. Animation Season 1 and 2 contains about 2/3 of the Phase 1 storyline. Again, not much effot went into this anime. or the producer decided not to spent much effort on this project. I guess they figured that the name "Gantz" was enough to return the revenue.
For such an amazingly original manga, this anime was a huge disapointment. If Evangelion scored 8/10 in my book, Gantz would score 3/10. 』
(Very Pleased) 『This Dvd set came on time and in exactly the condition stated. It was also a good price. Thanks seller!!』
(Are People Blind?!?!) 『Let me start by saying I have not even finished this anime, nor will I. I stopped around episode 16, with the giant statues. I also won't go into further detail on plot because I do not want to give anything away to those poor souls who are actually looking forward to this garbage. I heard great things about this series in my scouting of new shows to watch so I decided to give this one a shot. Boy was I wrong to even consider this. It's not the asinine plot that goes nowhere episode after episode that disappoints me. Or the "state of the art" animation which blends CG and hand drawn about as well as scat and ice cream. Its the ridiculously slow pacing. In some cases, the character spend half the episode (no joke) debating whether or not to shoot an alien that is threating their lives. In the show, the characters are granted these amazing weapons that appear to have unlimited ammo, no recoil, really no faults. So what do our awesome heroes do? Nothing. Thats right, nothing! The creators are obviously trying to build suspense, but ultimately fail and, instead, create a very boring and uninteresting cartoon. Despite what most say, the animation is horrible. The CG is primarily used for scrolling backgrounds when the characters run. Its more of a lazy trick than an actual attempt to do something worthwhile. If you have morals or a weak stomach (both of which I lack) than steer clear of this train wreck regardless. It has everything from rape, to gory deaths, to very questionable ethics. If these things disturb you, don't say I did not warn you. It doesn't bother more so than infuriate me with the way they use these shock tools. An example is the main character. All he thinks about is getting laid. Its entertaining once or twice to throw that in there. Its funny! But the protagonist literally eats sleeps and breaths this obsession. Its sad to watch. No one, I mean no one acts like that. Nice try to spice it up team Gantz. I'm not buying it. Speaking of which, neither should you. I give this the lowest rating I have ever given anything. At least the opening song is catchy...』
(Better than the manga, IMO) 『I really liked this anime. As mentioned, there's a huge difference between this short anime series and the manga. I've read up to volume 22 of the manga and while they toss in a lot of cool new weapons and bad guys and details that aren't in the anime... they direction is totally opposite after (SPOILER ALERT) everyone but kurono dies. In the manga he pretty much forgets about everyone until he get his hundred points 6 months later, at which point he ditches them immediately anyway... which I found pretty lame. The manga is just too busy for the character development and attachments you make in the anime. All in all, both an awesome series and an awesome manga. Very disturbing, however, at points, I'd only rank it second to Berserk.』
(Good Entertainment) 『Season 2 of Gantz all in all was good entertainment. A lot of fantastic action, full of blood and gore. What I didn't care for about this is that the first couple minutes of each episode replays the ending of the previous episode and the scenes are a bit drawn out. It reminds me of the Dragonball series. Also the ending is a bit disappointing as I was watching it I had high anticipation to see what happens. Otherwise I found this anime to be very entertaining and very colorful characters.』 『Gantz was the most notorious Anime series of 2005 but it s the second season where they really upped the ante! Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (a great outlaw star spin off) 『angel links is a spinoff show from outlaw star. this was a great show wioth plenty of action, a great story line, and an amazing ending. this is one of thos few shows tjhat can make you sit on the enge of youre seat then make you cry. i highly recomend this show.』
(A Well done anime series.) 『This Anime series is very well done, It has a very good story line as well as animation.』
(Surprisingly good...) 『When I started watching Angel Links, I was on the verge of dismissing it as just another shoot up the enemy-of-the-day type of show. The first few eps feature Meifon and company's exploits fighting pirates, poachers, and other baddies in space... and I get to thinking, what's so special about that? Do I have to sit through the same drill every time?
Fortunately, Angel Links develops into something more. Amidst fighting pirates, Meifon is unexpectedly haunted by various visions and flashbacks of past events -- a man aiming a gun at her, her grandfather screaming, her mother shot dead, etc. and all of it seems to be tied to one name: Goryu. As the series progressed, I found myself getting more and more drawn into Meifon's tortured soul. Her grandfather had not only left her with a great fortune, but also with a legacy of vengeance and death. Meifon later discovers that she is not just his heiress, she is his assassin. She is subsequently torn between carrying out her grandfather's wishes, fighting her own inner turmoil, and living a normal life the way a normal girl her age is supposed to. Angel Links picks up considerably after its mundane start. After the real plot concerning Meifon is uncovered, the pace continues to escalate up until the climactic final battle with the elusive Goryu and the poignant conclusion.
The art and animation are spectacular for most part (I say most part because some of the in-betweening jobs aren't so great). Distinctive character designs and impressive space battle as well as melee action sequences comprise the whole series. There is also a bit of fan service, mostly close-ups of Meifon's big and bouncy boobs -- which are also the hiding place of her winged cat / weapon Taffei. Taffei flies out of Meifon's cleavage whenever she's in danger, or whenever she calls him. He can transform into a powerful sword that can slice almost anything in half.
Angel Links is a surprisingly good series. I'm glad I took the time to check it out despite the lukewarm reviews I had encountered prior to watching.
』 『Set within the Outlaw Star Universe..Meifon is quite an overachiever for a sixteen-year-old girl. She's the head of a major corporation, and the captain of a state-of-the-art ship which provides a free pirate fighting service. And her crew is just as extraordinary. Join the Angel Links as they fight pirates, right wrongs, and discover the hidden secrets behind Meifon's mysterious past. Spin off to the Hit TV Series Outlaw Star. Genre: Action/Sci-Fi.』

(Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes) 『Season two of "Maria Watches Over Us" handles tough changes, including senior graduation, new sisters and heart-wrenching relationships.
It starts off slowly in the first episode, in which the Yamayuri Council has a New Year's Party at Sachiko Ogasawara's humongous mansion. However, drama picks up as a series of photos leave student council members wondering whether Eriko Torii is a prostitute, dating multiple men at once.
In the next episodes, the seniors prepare for their graduation. Yumi has a tearful farewell with Sei Sato, also known as Rosa Gigantea, before she goes to college. Sachiko also breaks down in tears in the middle of her farewell speech to her superiors, Eriko Torii, Sei Satou and Yoko Mizuno. Admittedly, these are some of the emotional episodes in the series.
But the final story arcs are some of the most dramatic in the series. In Shimako Todo's story arc, Shimako starts a lovely relationship with Noriko Nijo, a first-year student. Noriko shares Shimako's fondness of Buddhism, as well as quiet meditation. However, Shimako is shy and nervous as heck, leading to Shimako's own difficult confessions of her love for Buddhism and her feelings towards Noriko.
Yoshino Shimazu has more difficult romantic troubles with her grande seour, Rei Hasekura, also known as Rosa Foetida. This involves Yoshino joining the kendo club, the same club as Rei. Unforunately, Rei is unnerved--she really doesn't want Yoshino to get hurt, among other things.
Finally, Yumi is suspecting that Sachiko Ogasawara is spending an inordinate amount of time with Toko Matsudaira, Sachiko's distant cousin and biggest fan. Yumi has some heavy emotional moments trying to ask Shimako what is wrong, and almost indefinitely rejects attending the Yamayuri Council's meetings. But Yumi discovers that Sachiko is just afraid to express her depressed feelings in regards to a different kind of loss.
Yumi and Sachiko have a wonderful make-up moment together, as do all the other girls in the series. Indeed, season two of "Maria Watches Over Us" covers some of the most trying moments and ever-changing relationships in season two. This is one of the most touching series, and season two proves that "Maria Watches Over Us" is one of the best anime romance series I have ever seen. Think of the series as "His or Her Circumstances" (also known as "Kare Kano"), if director Hideaki Anno had ever finished his work. Only with girl and girl romances.
By the way, the "Don't Tell Mother Maria" extras return in season two, making for even more funny bloopers of the series. Also, the subtitles got the title of season two wrong--this series is supposed to be called "Maria Watches Over Us: Spring," not "Maria Watches Over Us: Printemps." I wish the subbers had fixed this problem before releasing season two.』
(Days Well Spent At Lillian) 『The second volume of "Maria Watches Over Us" covers the last days of Yumi's first year at Lillian Jogakuen, and the early part of her second year.
This box set begins with flashbacks to the New Year's break, and continues through the graduation of the former Rosas, the changes in the Student Council and the trials and tribulations all of the second-year students face during a turbulent spring. Old characters leave, new ones arrive.
This volume ends with what is quite possibly the single most important arc in the entire series, as Yumi's relationship with Sachiko faces a nearly insumountable crisis.
The box set comes with video extras and excellent liner notes. An excellent value for your money, for more hours spent with the lovely ladies of Lillian.
