LED's are economical, super bright, highly efficient, draw less power, and have a much longer life than incandescent lamps. LED's typically have a useful life between 30,000 to 50,000 hours, and degrade very slowly over time.
Powered by a single AAA battery, the Fenix E01 utilizes a single high output LED as its light source. It produces a pretty bright white light, with a nice even spread, that is not adjustable. The flashlight provides good general illumination for short distances. Total length is just 2.8 inches. The housing is weather resistant anodized aircraft aluminum, and is available in different colored finishes. There are a couple of flat areas on the sides that are convenient for gripping. There is no switch. The light is turned on and off, by rotating the screw on top that holds the LED. This design, allows for the compact size.
This tiny flashlight is very convenient to carry most anywhere. Performance is quite good. There is no lens over the lamp, which means dirt and dust can collect on the polished reflector. If carried in a pocket with other objects, it is possible the LED lamp could be damaged or broken. The flashlight has a serial number engraved on the housing, and comes with a small ring which can be attached to a tiny hole on the bottom of the flashlight, permitting attachment to a keyring or lanyard. A spare rubber seal ring is included, but a AAA battery is not.
On the subject of batteries, conventional alkaline batteries usually hold their charge for a long time, and so they are a good choice for a flashlight that is mainly used for emergencies. The downside is that alkaline batteries can leak, and the acid can damage, or destroy the flashlight's contacts or switch. The throw of the light is amazing, with a bright central region (yellowish-blue, I think, as my colour perception is not good), and a slightly dimmer area around it. At 4 feet, it illuminated an area of approximately 2-1/2 feet, which I though was very good for a flashlight this size.
The construction and finish is great too, in some ways better than the (rather overrated) equivalent Maglite. There is no glass window in the front. That may be good... or not. I can't make out if the whole thing is waterproof, despite the lack of the glass window.
Can't say anything yet about the battery life, as I just started using it.』

The Nano has it's own issues, but brightness isn't one of them. I think the E0 will probably have good run time vs the smaller lights, but I don't think it's a big factor for a low duty cycle keychain style flashlight.
If you can swing the extra bucks, the Fenix LD01 is maybe only 5mmm longer than the E01, but a far brighter light. 』

(OLD SCHOOL w/ a twist) 『Back when I was a kid, if you had a Swiss Army Knife&a Maglite, you were on top of the world. There wasn't anything in the outdoors, or your dad's garage, that you couldn't handle. I sawed twigs, built a birdhouse, cut bait, cut twine, cut fishing line, opened cans, opened bottles, sliced salami, cut PB&J into quarters for sharing, took out splinters with the tweezers, changed batteries, and took apart everything around the house that had fasteners that the knife could turn. It was a glorious time. The envy of all the other 8 year olds in the 3rd grade. That first knife followed me to school all the way to college. Back in those days, teachers didn't freak out about a kid with a weapon if you had a Swiss Army or a Buck Knife.
My Buck Knife was always on my hip, in a leather holster, for all the other kids in Middle School to be jealous of. As a little boy, I was able to split sandwiches in half for sharing, slice apples for the teacher, and every little boy loved it when the pretty teacher asked to borrow his Buck Knife to open envelopes and packages with.
Back in those days, the world was simpler. We didn't have crack cocaine, gang violence, or Oprah. A comparable light is the mag-lite 3-AA LED flashlight, but the flashlight alone cost $23 at wal-mart. And IMO, it isn't as good - I have both. However, The mag-light is brighter, but its not quite the quality of the victorinox.

(Very Warm and Soft) 『The material is different from the waffle-type material that you usually see on a thermal shirt. It is very soft cotton. It is mostly smooth, with tiny indentations every inch or so. It could almost be worn as an every day shirt. Sizes run a bit small. I usually get a large, but I had read on a previous review about the small size. I got an XL, and it fits perfectly. All in all this is a very good value for money. It is about 1 and 1/2 times thicker than a standard thermal, and provides more warmth. It seems like 2 layers of soft cotton bonded together. I am very happy with my purchase.』
