(The Help)
『It is rare to find such a beautifully written novel. I paced myself while reading it, just to be able to enjoy it a while longer.』

(Interesting Plot, Excellent Characters, Great writing)
『The Help is set in Jackson, MS at the beginning of the civil rights movement. It is told from three points-of-view, starting with Aibileen, who speaks in the dialogue of an undereducated black housekeeper. It's a little off-putting at first to read Aibileens's chapters, but worth getting used to because she is a great narrator. Another narrator is Minny, the outspoken, younger best friend of Aibileen and a housekeeper who has a hard time staying employed due to her outspokenness, but who needs to work to support her large family. Skeeter is a white college graduate, unmarried and unable to find love or happiness or even a place to fit in. The three let us glimpse into their worlds as they work together to write a book about the world of black maids and their white bosses, a venture filled with danger for all of them.

Stockett does a great job of creating plausible characters for this story. There are pretty clear lines drawn around the oppressed and the oppressors, but very few of the characters are one-dimensional. Most are quite developed and believable. She fills the plot with enough drama and suspense to keep it interesting and moving along.

This is an excellent read and I highly recommend it. I hated for it to end and would love to find out what came next for the heroines in this story.

(Great work of fiction)
『The author writes with such familiarity with the times and Mississippi itself that you feel like you are inside the novel. I felt that I could see, hear, and feel Mississippi (although I have never been there). The novel takes place in a time before I was even born, 1963-1964. It was a blast from the pre-me past.

I loved all of the characters and they were so well developed that I cried, laughed, and felt fear with them. I was proud of their strengths and was astonished at the cruelty of some.

I absolutely loved how the maids helped to write the book. Help, that showed the plight of the maids in Jackson, MS in 1963. When a story of hardship exists it needs to be told and shown to everyone.

I am the author of Summer Born: A Life With Cerebellar Ataxia and Dreams in August: Life, Love, and Cerebellar Ataxia』

(The Help)
『The Help was one of the better books that I've read in the last several years. (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was the Best) I grew up in the 60's and lived in the North, so I didn't witness the treatment of black women housekeepers. I did witness and protest the quota system for blacks in the LCMS University in Northern Indiana. I was shocked by that system in a christian college. Ms Hilly got her just desserts in this book twice. Its a good thought provoking read.』

(The Help, an excellent book depicting the treatment of Black maids during the '60's as the civil rights movement was emerging.)
『Though this is a fiction book written by a non-Black, the author skillfully depicts what life was like for Black women and men in the years before, during, and after they gained their civil rights. Those prejudices still exist in many circles and this book is an excellent reminder that the pursuit for equality is not over.』

『This was a hidden gem!Was very impressed with author's ability to keep story flowing and interest peaked.I am glad I read the sample based off the reader reviews as they were correct with the high rating. Thanks Kindle readers.』

(Should be an Oprah book club book, but...)
『I have found that Oprah tends to pick very depressing stories, and this one actually had semi-happy ending, so Oprah probably wouldn't pick it. (Maybe she can make it into a made-for-tv movie when she starts that network of hers.) All kidding aside, I loved this book and highly recommend it. Just make sure you Kindle readers grab it while it is still free, but even if you missed that boat, consider shelling out some dollars for it. It would be worth it.』

(Great book!)
『I loved this boook! The author's grasp on characterization is very authentic!!! I also appreciated that it did not contain unnecessary violence or profanity.』

(Fantastic Read)
『I discovered this book when it came up free on the Kindle, and boy I'm glad I did. Fireflies in December is an amazing first novel, told in a memorable voice with imagery so vivid, I felt like I was experiencing the hot, sticky summer myself. Jessie was a great protagonist-- clever, funny and stubborn. She really grows up over the course of the novel. All the characters were well drawn, and the plot was fast paced and exciting from start to finish. I especially loved how engaging the southern dialect was, and I can still hear Jessie's smart mouthed drawl bouncing around in my head.

Definitely recommended, and though the edition I read was free, there's no doubt I'll be spending money on the sequel.』

(Well written, touching story)
『This is a very well written book. I loved the entire story. It was rich with character development and details. I think the subject matter is also very important. I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it.』

Violence springs up as a ragtag band of Ku Klux Klan members unite and decide to take matters into their own hands. (not Clancy, Grisham, etc.)
『Certainly Treason's plot is timely and for those of us who like shows like JAG and NCIS it has its interesting points. I can believe that the author is very familiar with how the military and JAG works. However, the characters don't have the the depth that some other successful writers of the genre provide. Although most of the reviews and descriptions don't reveal it, there is a definite "Christian romance" angle to this story that will not appeal to all. The villains (Muslims) are stereotyped: if you like your good guys and bad guys as clearcut this book provides that. I "bought" this as a freebie on Kindle along with 3 others by Brown, but probably won't bother to read the remaining books.』

(Entertaining and Scary)
『Treason is highly entertaining but also scary and prophetic. The storyline predicts current events in a way that is almost prophetic. A must read.』

(Couldn't Finish it)
『I ended up having to put this book down, unfinished. Even though it was a freebie, I just couldn't force myself to keep grinding through it. So, take this review with a grain of salt... It's always possible that, halfway through the book, the author made an abrupt about-face and everything got better.

I do think that there is a good story buried somewhere in there. But the author's incredibly simplistic opinions of religion (Islam: bad, Christianity: good), and politics (Democrats: bad, Republicans: good), and his willingness to beat the reader over the head with those ideologies masked what might have been a moderately entertaining, (if predictable), military law novel.

I tried to treat the book as simple fluff, ignoring the political and religious bias, but it was so intrusive as to be impossible.

This might very well be a good book for readers who consider themselves Christians and are okay with a black and white world, wherein the author espouses his belief that Islam has always been a religion of violence, and that Democrats are all corrupt individuals standing in the way of justice. For myself, it was unreadable.』

(Fabulous Read)
『I agree with some of the other reviews that the book starts a little slow, but then, suddenly it takes off like a rocket and you're roped in. Touches on politically sensitive issues like Radical Islam. I could not put the book down. Zack Brewer is a great protagonist. Highly recommended.』

(Notably bad)
『I bought this book because the reviews were so positive and I kept reading it for the same reason. The plot is predictable, the religious views are simplistic and mean spirited (even compared to AM radio), the hero is self righteous, the author's treatment of the woman characters is belittling, and I suspect the biggest problem with this book is that it is boring.』
『When Muslim terrorists infiltrate the Navy Chaplain Corps, Lieutenant Zack Brewer, just three years out of law school, is pitted against the world’s greatest defense attorney in the court-martial of the century. Book One in a series.』

(One of the BEST Alex Cross books yet!)
『I own every Alex Cross books and this one ranks right up there with the best of them! As many of James Patterson fans know he has co-writers on many of his books, but except for Alex Cross' Trial he always writes the Alex Cross books by himself which is a GOOD thing! Highly recommend this books!』

(FINALLY!!! Patterson and Cross Are Back and True to Form :))
『Well I must admit that I was initially apprehensive about paying so much money for a James Patterson book after the horrible Cross Country (Alex Cross) where Alex Cross goes to Africa. In fact, not only did I write a scathing review of that book, but I seriously spent about 10 minutes trying to decide if I wanted to risk my money on this latest Alex Cross novel.

However, I decide I would go ahead and risk it. Surprisingly, or perhaps not so surprisingly, I was absolutely delighted with the story and thrilled that Patterson was back in form with good fast paced writing that kept the pages turning with nary a single thought of putting the book down. Although admittedly I did a time or two in order to try and get some sleep, but it didn't work so I finished the book in one sitting.

I especially liked the cameo appearance (so to speak) of another Patterson character in the Alex Cross novels and I am hoping that he will be a major player in an upcoming Alex Cross novel. Every Superman needs their Lex Luthor and this character is definitely that. And no, I am not going to give away the suprise ending.

The basic plot of the story is that a loose family member (no pun intended, which you will understand within the first 30 pages or so) is found murdered and Alex Cross begins a perilous journey to find the family members killer or killers. Quite an interesting background of characters that I thought was rather well done, although I wondered just how realistic a couple of them really would have been.

I am not going to give away any more than that, but it should be sufficient for me to say that being a HUGE Alex Cross/Patterson fan has me believing once again in the writing of this terrific author who needs to stick to solo projects and an already proven recipe for great stories and characters.

Please, no more books like Cross Country (Alex Cross)!

Shawn Kovacich
Author of the Achieving Kicking Excellence series.』

(Hated For It To End!!)
『Great novel of suspense. I was really surprised with the ending. No red herrings and no real clue in to the murderer. Can't wait until the next Alex Cross story!!』

(Disappointing)
『I'm a James Patterson junkie. BUT, I was so disappointed in this book. There was no real sense of where the plot was going. Don't get me wrong, I love to be surprised but I like to be teased to the end. There was no tease, just a bunch of filler (sorry Nana) about Alex's personal life. No suspense at all. Just OK, he did it, The End. I sorry I popped $'s for the hardback.』

(Patterson is back)
『James Patterson is such a great writer and I so enjoy his books. He should never co-author with anyone. What a waste of talent. This book will not let you down. This is James Patterson all the way. Alex Cross' niece is murdered and during his investigation, he finds out she is a call girl. I won't give away the story because you will want to follow his twist and turns that he writes so well. Book arrived promptly.』
『Alex Cross's niece is found brutally murdered. Overcome with grief, Alex vows to take down her killer before he strikes again. But shortly after he begins the investigation, Alex discovers that his niece had gotten mixed up with some very important, very dangerous people. And she's not the only one who has disappeared.

The hunt for the murderer leads Alex and his girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, toWashington's most infamous club--a place where every fantasy is possible, ifyou have the credentials to get in. The killer could be one of their patrons, one ofWashington's elite who will do anything to keep their secrets buried.

With astonishing plot twists and electrifying revelations that will keep readers on the edge of their seat, I, ALEX CROSS is James Patterson's most suspenseful Alex Cross novel yet.』

James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell: Author One-on-One
In this Amazon exclusive, we brought together blockbuster authors James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell and asked them to interview each other. Find out what two of the top authors of their genres have to say about their characters, writing process, and more.

Patricia Cornwell is the former Director of Applied Forensic Science at the National Forensic Academy, and a member of the Harvard-affiliated McLean Hospital's National Council, where she is an advocate for psychiatric research. She is the author of sixteen previous Kay Scarpetta mysteries, five non-Scarpetta novels (includingAt Risk), andPortrait of a Killer. Read on to see Patricia Cornwell's questions for James Patterson, or turn the tables to see what Patterson asked Cornwell.

Patricia CornwellCornwell: James, your questions were so good, I'm going to ask you similar ones. Let's start with why you write? Do you love it or love having done it? What motivates you?

Patterson: I truly love writing. I sometimes think about my grandfather when I reflect on this. When I was a boy, I lived in a town on the Hudson River. During the summers, my grandfather would take me once a week on his frozen food and ice cream delivery route. We'd be up at four in the morning packing up the truck, and by five we'd be on our way. Driving a delivery truck isn't the most glamorous job in the world, but every morning, my grandfather would drive over the Storm King Mountain toward West Point, and he'd be singing at the top of his voice. And he told me this: "Jim," he said, "when you grow up, I don't care if you're a truck driver or a famous surgeon—just remember that when you go over the mountain to work in the morning, you've got to be singing." Writing stories keeps me singing. Writing to me isn't work, and I like that a ton.

Cornwell: What is your routine when you're facing your next novel? What is the process like for you, and what is your favorite part of it? Least favorite?

Patterson: I like to have a lot of ideas in the air at one time. I've got around 20 manuscripts sitting in my office right now, in some degree of completion. It's a lot of material, a lot of stories. My least favorite part? Hmm. Maybe sharpening pencils? Actually, I’ve always kind of liked sharpening pencils. I don’t mean to seem too over the top about this, but I really wouldn’t change any of it.

Cornwell: What do you and Alex Cross have in common? How are you different?

Patterson: We're both family-oriented guys. I think it's a real treat to be able to get along with your wife every day, which I do; my wife and I really have trouble being apart for very long. And I think readers will agree Alex is generally doing better in the romance department. One difference between us would be that I'm much more content to sit around and write. I think Alex would get a little bored on a "ride-along" with me.

Cornwell: What inspired you to create Alex Cross?

Patterson: Hardly anyone knows it but when I started the first Alex Cross novel, Alex was a woman named Alexis. After 100 pages or so, I changed the character to Alex. When I was a kid growing up, my grandparents had a small restaurant and the cook was an African-American woman who eventually moved into our house. All through my growing up period I spent a lot of time with this woman's family. They were funny, wise, the food was great, so was the music, and the family is at least part of the inspiration for the Crosses.

Cornwell: What's the one thing a reader has said that you've never forgotten and perhaps found startling?

Patterson: I'm sure you've had this, too, Patricia, but the one comment that gets me every time is hearing people say my books have them reading again. I know sometimes you and I get some heat for being as popular as we are, and are saddled with that old equation that says if you're a bestseller, you must be lowbrow. But I frankly don't think there’s anything more meaningful than hearing that I've turned a person back into a reader (or in the case of younger readers, got them started).

Cornwell: How about you? You're the one with all the movies! Good experience or not?

Patterson: Sounds like we're on the same page there, Patricia. I definitely feel like some past projects didn't quite live up to their potential. And I likewise have hopes for a couple of movies in the works: the third Alex Cross movie, and the very firstMaximum Ridemovie, which has Avi Arad (producer ofSpider Man), Catherine Hardwicke (director ofTwilight), and Don Payne (writer forThe Simpsons) on board. There's also a very promising TV series based on a new book I've written that's being developed with CBS and Imagine.

(One of the Worst supernatural romances ever written)
『I can't even express into words how strong my distaste for the entire Twilight Saga truly is. In my personal opinion Twilight is prefabricated, poorly written, shallow, demographic-forcing tripe. When I was a fourteen-year-old girl I was very obsessed with the vampire anti-hero Lestat from Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles. And though Lestat had many relationship issues he was still a better defined and more well conceived character than that of Edward Cullen.

Edward and Bella are poorly thought out, two dimensional shells. This was a deliberate effort by the author so that every young reader could imagine themselves as the main characters but in the process she made them so superficial that the characters lacked any quality of definition. They did not feel like real people.

Not only is Twilight poorly written but it also hinders upon actual mythology. The notion of vampires glittering in the sun is laughable at best. It brings to mind the recollection of such toys as the My Little Pony dolls. The logic behind vampires sparkling in the sunlight is non-existent. A vampire burning in the sun has been a staple of Gothic fiction for many years. There are real diseases and disorders in the world that make sunlight harmful to certain individuals. Scientifically it's more plausible to be harmed by sunlight than to 'naturally' sparkle in it.

Another flaw in the mythos of Twilight is the definition of werewolf. I cannot tell you how many times I have come across Twilight fans who insist the characters who can turn into wolves are not werewolves. They say that these characters are shape-shifters. A shape shifter by traditional definition can take on multiple forms, not just one. Many Twilight fans also argue that within the mythos of the books a true werewolf only changes on the full moon and that's why Jacob and company are not actually werewolves. The parapsychology student in me winces at this. In many traditional werewolf folklore out of Germany and France there are werewolves that most certainly can change at will, are aware in their wolf form, and are not bound by the phase of the moon. The very word werewolf means man-wolf. It does not mean part man and part wolf. It comes from the notion of a man INTO a wolf. Most classic werewolf stories (before The Wolf-Man movie) had the werewolf changing from a person into an actual wolf.

The very first werewolf legend can be traced back to the Greek myth of King Lycaon. According to legend King Lycaon served human flesh at a feast for Zeus (the king of the Gods). Zeus was so offended that he punished Lycaon by turning him into a wolf. Only his eyes remained human. This myth is where the terms Lycanthrope, Lycanthropy and the more modern Lycan come from. I guess it's safe to say Stephenie Meyer does not do her research in regard to the occult before writing these stories.

Not only is Twilight poorly written and intellectually insulting to occultists (amateur and professional alike) but it also promotes very unhealthy relationships. Edward Cullen is abusive, stalkerish and obsessive. Edward has also had moments of physically harming Bella. Bella is equally so but that does not make it okay, nor does it make the relationship healthy. At one point Edward disables Bella's mode of transportation and has her kidnapped as a means to 'protect' her. If he was not a vampire this would be viewed as highly abusive of the character. There is a fine line between being chivalrous and sexist. Edward Cullen crossed that line miles ago. This sets a very unhealthy ideal of what defines romantic relationship for the young readers of Twilight. I am not saying not to read Twilight nor am I saying to burn the books. I am simply saying that it needs to be looked at in context for what it truly is and that there are far higher quality reads out there. If you want a chivalrous character who is NOT sexist, seek The Dresden Files novels by Jim Butcher. The hero, a wizard named Harry Dresden, is very chivalrous without being sexist.

Bella is what modern writers call A Mary Sue. In fiction writing and role playing games Mary Sue characters are strongly frowned upon. A Mary Sue is a character of shallow quality who is nearly flawless. The character is so perfect that even her so-called flaws are endearing.

I have run online text based role playing games since 1999 and I can tell you there are plot points in Twilight I would not have allowed in my game. A major one would be when Bella and Edward finally had their daughter toward the end of the book series the child aged extremely fast and by age seven or so she was involved with her mother's werewolf ex-boyfriend. To me this is disgusting. I would never have allowed this in my online role playing game. She might have developed with supernatural speed but she still has only had only seven-years-life experience and I feel that is certainly not enough time to be in a romantic relationship with a grown man. That was disturbing to me. Supernatural speed aging does not give her enough life experience for that sort of relationship. That was simply not right.

In short Twilight is not what I would consider a good read even for those who truly love supernatural romances. See out the likes of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Twilight is not worth the time. There are higher quality works of fiction out there.』

(I usually get why girly things are attractive to the American female. . .)
『I get the gluttonous desire for shoes. I get the unwise attraction to blue eye shadow. I get American Girl dolls and Justin Timberlake and Josh Groban. I get the girly affection for cosmopolitans, crying, and peppermint foot scrub. I get Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters. Hell, I even get white zinfandel and the Jonas Brothers!

But what is the charm in a pathetic, co-dependent teenage girl and her sulky, whiney Vampire boyfriend? Reading `Twilight' was more work than reading Thomas Friedman or Paul Krugman (and far less edifying).

(SERIOUSLY???)
『I'd seen my friend walking around with the series a few times at school, so, naturally, of course, I being an advent reader, I asked her what it was about. She had the first one at that time, so she explained the summary, you know, girl falls in love with vampire boy. Bella...Edward...Hooblah. Then, whilst in the middle of walking down the hall to another class later that day, she said something about somebody coming through somebody else's window in the middle of the night? Hm. Curious. Once she'd finished, I borrowed it from her, and, was able to finish it within one or two sittings. The following three in the series, as well. (Just to let you know, before you judge me as one who didn't read the books. I've read all four. So there. Anyhow...) Not good. I've noticed that any GOOD book that I've read usually takes me at least a week or so to finish. Most of the time, even longer. There're actually things in the text of those books that make the reader want to fully understand what the author is trying to convey. Besides, I'm way too ADD to sit and read in one sitting while trying to elucidate all of the elements. Twilight? Er, no. It was one of the most NON-COMPLEX books I've ever read in my life. And that's saying something. I've been reading since I was three. The writing looked as if it had been done by a horny teenager who wrote fanfiction as a hobby in their spare time (and yes, I do read fanfiction, so I would know.) The characters, though I failed to notice it at first since I sped through the books, were, as others have said, indeed, quite flat. Edward was cold, hard, and marble-like, but gorgeous, and Bella was an outcast. Uh. Not. Last time I checked, outcasts don't have people flocking behind them like male dogs chasing after a pheromone leaking female with their tails in between their little legs. A lot of the pages were 'Edward, this, Edward, that,', which, if all of that unnecessary stuff had been taken out, might have thinned down the novel by a good 75%. And might have made it somewhat interesting, if it had a plot other than a problem that was solved in like, twenty pages. While the narrator was passed out. WHO DOES A FIGHT SCENE AND HAS THE NARRATOR PASSED OUT ON THE FLOOR???? WHAT??? Another thing that really bothered me, SPARKLY VAMPIRES? ARE YOU BEING SERIOUS, RIGHT NOW? Since when did a vampire ever friggin' sparkle?! I know you were trying to be novel and innovative, Meyer, but perhaps you should have tried that with your plain, flat, yet oh so perfect characters. Sparkly vampires don't do anything but piss us vampire lovers off.(And kill us on the inside, but you wouldn't know about that, now then, would you?)Whoever said that the Twilight series was better than Harry Potter should be hunted down in their sleep and shot point blank in the face. It's that serious. Freakin' sparkling vampires, my behind.』

(I know what the big deal about this book is!)
『A really hot guy who wants to take care of you and doesn't constantly pester you for sex ... hello!

It's not Shakespeare, but I give it 4 stars for 'sucking' me in completely by page twenty. And I'm pushing forty, plus the friend who loaned it to me is in her fifties!』

(If I could give it less than 1 star, I would)
『The fact that this...piece of garbage disguised as literature is so popular simply blows my mind. I pride myself on having read some of the best (though certainly not all) that fantasy has to offer (J.R.R. Tolkien, Anne McCaffrey, George R.R. Martin, Mercedes Lackey, etc) and the fact that Meyer is touted as the new J.K. Rowling just depresses me. The characters have no depth, Bella Swan is a spineless, scarily obsessive, constantly whining teenager who makes Anakin look pleasant and Edward Cullen is beyond ridiculous. Supposedly the most beautiful man alive, who just can't stay away and is the best at everything. Bella CONSTANTLY has to be saved by Edward, supposedly because she is clumsy but more likely because she is extremely stupid. There's no reason for them to love each other, they're just intensely sexually attracted to each other. Great basis for a romance, Stephanie! And honestly, sparkly vampires? Why wouldn't Bella want to be one? Let's see, pros are that you're now immortal, you can do everything better and you're beautiful...and the cons are that you're sparkly in the sunlight? How is this acceptable fantasy? How did this even get published?!』
About three things I was absolutely positive:
First, Edward was a vampire.
Second, there was a part of him–and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be–that thirsted for my blood.
And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

“I’D NEVER GIVEN MUCH THOUGHT TO HOW I WOULD DIE– I’d had reason enough in the last few months –but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this. . . . Surely it was a good way to die, in the place of something else, someone I loved. Noble, even. That ought to count for something.”
When Isabella Swan moves to the gloomy town of Forks and meets the mysterious, alluring Edward Cullen, her life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. With his porcelain skin, golden eyes, mesmerizing voice, and supernatural gifts, Edward is both irresistible and impenetrable. Up until now, he has managed to keep his true identity hidden, but Bella is determined to uncover his dark secret.
What Bella doesn’t realize is the closer she gets to him, the more she is putting herself and those around her at risk. And, it might be too late to turn back. . . .
Deeply seductive and extraordinarily suspenseful,Twilightwill have readers riveted right until the very last page is turned.』

『The book that started the phenomenon is now available in a deluxe collector's edition! Featuring a ribbon bookmark, cloth cover, ragged edges, new chapter opener designs, and a beautiful protective slipcase, this edition is perfect for fans and collectors alike.

Bella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. (Great Read!)
『This novel is brilliantly written, even better than Mr. Brown's breakout novel, TREASON. Just the perfect blend of action, intrigue, legal drama, military stuff, and romance. Different twist with an unexpected ending! Great job by the author!』

(Starts with a Bang and Goes from There)
『Hostage starts out with a big bang and goes from there. Great love story, military story and legal story all in one. Better even than Brown's TREASON. Interesting twist at the end. Highly recommended!』

(Hostage)
『I enjoyed it and did not want to put it down but it was a little unrealistic.』

(Compelling and Emotional)
『Hostage is brilliantly written! It's a love story within the confines of action and courtroom drama. The ending ripped my heart out. I am not going to say more.』

(Great Follow Up To Treason!)
『This novel was a very powerful follow up to Brown's first novel, Treason. Perhaps the writing was even stronger. Left me crying at the end!』
『When terrorists attack, JAG officer Zach Brewer faces a deadly choice. Save the woman he loves– or the lives of millions.』

(Falls down on the job)
『I've been tiring of Baldacci thru his last two books. This one was my limit. Too many loose ends, new happenings not lined to story line very well, too much time spent on irrelevant details, etc. Could have been better if more foreshadowings had been used earlier.』

(Not Typical Baldacci)
『I am a Baldacci fan that has read all his work and eagerly await his latest. True Blue was a total disappointment. The story line is contrived and the characters are developed about as much as a Garfield cartoon episode. I can't actually find one thing I would recommend about this book.』

(I thought "simple genius" was the worst, but this one surpassed it!)
『after "simple genius", i've pushed d.b. into "declining writers" category, but still, i picked up his new ones automatically. "the whole truth" and the last camel club series seemed to be okay, but alas, here comes another coffin nail from this author again. i now absolutely believe that d.b. has totally lost it! this is the final mistake i've made on d.b. but never again. adios, d.b.』

(not good)
『This was a real disappointment. I have always enjoyed Baldacci books, but this plot is too contrived and he characters unbelievable. I would not buy any follow u if he is plannng a series.』

(True Blue)
『Great Book, Love all his books, it arrived on time and already have read it』
『A mysterious high-profile homicide in the nation's capital collides with the dark side of national security in David Baldacci's new, heart-stopping thriller.

TRUE BLUE

Mason "Mace" Perry was a firebrand cop on the D.C. police force until she was kidnapped and framed for a crime. She lost everything-her badge, her career, her freedom-and spent two years in prison. Now she's back on the outside and focused on one mission: to be a cop once more. Her only shot to be a true blue again is to solve a major case on her own, and prove she has the right to wear the uniform. But even with her police chief sister on her side, she has to work in the shadows: A vindictive U.S. attorney is looking for any reason to send Mace back behind bars. Then Roy Kingman enters her life.

Roy is a young lawyer who aided the poor until he took a high-paying job at a law firm in Washington. Mace and Roy meet after he discovers the dead body of a female partner at the firm. As they investigate the death, they start uncovering surprising secrets from both the private and public world of the nation's capital.

Soon, what began as a fairly routine homicide takes a terrifying and unexpected turn-into something complex, diabolical, and possibly lethal.』

(Lost Symbol)
『Great book, It was not as good as Angels and Demons, or the Danvi Code but a good read』

(Entertaining Read)
『The book follows his previous work in that it provides interesting factual information weaved into the story. The result is a book that is a page turner and you are rewarded with a few bits of knowledge that you get to keep. The only criticism I would have is that the story ended about 100 pages before the book did. The last part could have been left out of the story entirely or included in an epilogue for those who would be interested in a few more interesting factoids and philosophical ideas. So far Dan has used the his knowledge and imagination about the masons and the templars to write two wonderful books, I look forward to any future books... maybe involving the Sumarian's? or other ancient civilization as a natural progression to his writing style and interest.』

(sorry, but this is not a good book in any way at all)
『i loved da vinci code, but this is an attempt to rekindle that fire, and what it ends up with is a bunch of smoke and mirrors. once that part clears up you're at the end of the book, praying for some sense of recovery, but noooooo. it ends just as bad. i'm a very positive person, and usually find the good in most things. there's very little of that here.』

(The Lost Symbol is a great read.)
『Wow. Dan Brown just keeps getting better. There were a couple of times I was absolutely shocked with what he had written. I couldn't imagine where he would go next, but he pulled it off brilliantly.

What I especially liked about this book was the fact it was based in D.C. So when I visit there I can actually go see some of the artwork and statuary he was refereing to. Although the Da Vinci code was great, I don't expect to ever get to those landmarks in France that he talked about.

The background on the Mason's was fascinating too. Don't know how accurate his explanations are, but I'll bet the basics are pretty close, although I imagine the biggest secrets are not quite as he explained it.

Great read though. I sure enjoyed it.』

(What the heck just happened?)
『The book started off and read through as what I expected from Brown's two most recent novels, but the ending... such a cop out. I wouldn't recommend it as it was not worth the effort when all is said and done. Brown rode on the coat tails of his earlier work. I felt tricked and played.』
『In this stunning follow-up to the global phenomenonThe Da Vinci Code,Dan Brown demonstrates once again why he is the world's most popular thriller writer. The Lost Symbolis a masterstroke of storytelling—a deadly race through a real-world labyrinth of codes, secrets, and unseen truths . . . all under the watchful eye of Brown's most terrifying villain to date. Set within the hidden chambers, tunnels, and temples of Washington, D.C.,The Lost Symbolaccelerates through a startling landscape toward an unthinkable finale.

As the story opens, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned unexpectedly to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol Building. Within minutes of his arrival, however, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object—artfully encoded with five symbols—is discovered in the Capitol Building. Langdon recognizes the object as an ancient invitation . . . one meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of esoteric wisdom.

When Langdon's beloved mentor, Peter Solomon—a prominent Mason and philanthropist —is brutally kidnapped, Langdon realizes his only hope of saving Peter is to accept this mystical invitation and follow wherever it leads him. Langdon is instantly plunged into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and never-before-seen locations—all of which seem to be dragging him toward a single, inconceivable truth.

As the world discovered inThe Da Vinci CodeandAngels&Demons, Dan Brown's novels are brilliant tapestries of veiled histories, arcane symbols, and enigmatic codes. In this new novel, he again challenges readers with an intelligent, lightning-paced story that offers surprises at every turn. The LostSymbol is exactly what Brown's fans have been waiting for . . . his most thrilling novel yet.

From the Hardcover edition.

『Let's start with the question every Dan Brown fan wants answered: IsThe Lost Symbolas good asThe Da Vinci Code? Simply put, yes. Brown has mastered the art of blending nail-biting suspense with random arcana (from pop science to religion), andThe Lost Symbolis an enthralling mix. And what a dazzling accomplishment that is, considering that rabid fans and skeptics alike are scrutinizing every word.

The Lost Symbol
begins with an ancient ritual, a shadowy enclave, and of course, a secret. Readers know they are in Dan Brown territory when, by the end of the first chapter, a secret within a secret is revealed. To tell too much would ruin the fun of reading this delicious thriller, so you will find no spoilers here. Suffice it to say that as with many series featuring a recurring character, there is a bit of a formula at work (one that fans will love). Again, brilliant Harvard professor Robert Langdon finds himself in a predicament that requires his vast knowledge of symbology and superior problem-solving skills to save the day. The setting, unlike other Robert Langdon novels, is stateside, and in Brown's hands Washington D.C. is as fascinating as Paris or Vatican City (note to the D.C. tourism board: get your "Lost Symbol" tour in order). And, as with other Dan Brown books, the pace is relentless, the revelations many, and there is an endless parade of intriguing factoids that will make you feel like you are spending the afternoon with Robert Langdon and the guys fromMythbusters.

Nothing is as it seems in a Robert Langdon novel, andThe Lost Symbolitself is no exception--a page-turner to be sure, but Brown also challenges his fans to open their minds to new information. Skeptical? Imagine how many other thrillers would spawn millions of Google searches for noetic science, superstring theory, andApotheosis of Washington. The Lost Symbolis brain candy of the best sort--just make sure to set aside time to enjoy your meal.--Daphne Durham

(I pulled a Palin and quit, quit reading this book...)
『I'm a republican who regretfully gave Palin, her book, a chance. Bad idea, I'll never get those moments back. After about 30 minutes, it just dawned on me: Why am I reading this book? Palin's not particularly intelligent-she's not a theologian, philosopher, professor, lawyer, doctor, or any other sort of professional that may have something worthwhile to share-and she hasn't really accomplished much. She obviously can't manage her own family much less a state, heck she even quit as governor! Why? It's clear: to make money writing poorly written books. (I know, I know, she left Alaska for Alaska, but if she was truly interested in Alaska's best interests, don't you think that she'd be serving Alaska's causes instead of writing books and traveling around America and around the world giving speeches behind closed doors?). This book is boring reality t.v. on paper and it's amazing that it appeals to so many (scary world we live in).』

(A well written book that will let you get to know Sarah Palin)
『The invective abuse directed at Sarah Palin says much about her progressive detractors and their fear of her, but very little about who she really is. This book is a well written autobiography. It serves its purpose in letting the reader get to know the author. There is no overwrought creation myth as there is with Obama. Sarah's is a very normal small town American story. Her values are quite mainstream. What is extraordinary is her willingness to take on the progressive elite that has come to dominate the so called mainstream media, our elite universities, most non-profit institutions and now our Federal government. I respect her for that.

Critics have complained that the book has petty criticism aimed at her detractors. First, that is a fairly minor part of the book that appears in context as the story is told. Second, her need to tell her side of the story is perfectly legitimate. Third, the fact that her detractors have so little to go on that they focus on petty criticism is what creates the need to respond in the first place. I don't see that she inappropriately dwells on things like "Troopergate" in the book.

The 11 AP reporters assigned to fact check this book are another reflection on her detractors. Eleven reporters basically came up with nothing of substance, yet wrote news articles about it. In contrast there is virtually no press criticism/analysis of Obama's "Dreams" autobiography. Joseph Farah has convincingly documented a long list of misrepresentations and outright falsehoods in Obama's book. Christopher Anderson and Jack Cashill have produced considerable evidence that the terrorist Bill Ayers actually ghost wrote much of the "Dreams" book. Yet the AP and other news organizations uncritically fawn over Obama's book, some going so far as to claim he is one of the best writers to ever occupy the oval office. This despite no evidence before or since the book that Obama is anything more than a mediocre writer.

This book is really only the beginning of a story. I hope to hear much more in the future.』

(Credit where credit is due)
『Sarah Palin has at least one thing in common with Hilary Clinton besides gender. Neither of them is willing to credit their ghostwriter. I am certain that Sarah Palin herself had a great deal of hands on imput as to the structure as well as the content of this book, but the actual author is a woman named Lynn Vincent. Politicians are busy people, and I quite understand that they may need help in order to bring a book to fruition. But I distrust anyone who will not acknowledge that they have not produced a piece of work that they sign their name to.
That said, the writing is better than many bios that are produced quickly in the 'as told to' tradition. I dock it two stars for not having an index, another major point of annoyance.』

(Horrific on every level)
『The paper upon which this drivel is printed is worth more than the words themselves. What you'll find here is a self-promoting narcissist with no understanding of how government actually works. Save yourself precious time and money and stay away!! There's nothing to be gained by indulging this woman.』

(Excellent Read)
『From a very real person. A fantastic read from an extra ordinary human being. Will make an excellent world leader.』

One year ago, Sarah Palin burst onto the national political stage like a comet. Yet even now, few Americans know who this remarkable woman really is.

On September 3, 2008 Alaska Governor and vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin delivered a speech at the Republican National Convention that electrified the nation and instantly made her one of the most recognizable women in the world.

As chief executive of America's largest state, she had built a record as a reformer who cast aside politics-as-usual and pushed through changes other politicians only talked about: Energy independence. Ethics reform. And the biggest private sector infrastructure project in U.S. history. And while revitalizing public school funding and ensuring the state met its responsibilities to seniors and Alaska Native populations, Palin also beat the political "good ol' boys club" at their own game and brought Big Oil to heel.

Like her GOP running mate, John McCain, Palin wasn't a packaged and over-produced candidate. She was a Main Street American woman: a working mom, wife of a blue collar union man, and mother of five children, the eldest of whom was serving his country in a yearlong deployment in Iraq and the youngest, an infant with special needs. Palin's hometown story touched a populist nerve, rallying hundreds of thousands of ordinary Americans to the GOP ticket.

But as the campaign unfolded, Palin became a lightning rod for both praise and criticism. Supporters called her "refreshing" and "honest," a kitchen-table public servant they felt would fight for their interests. Opponents derided her as a wide-eyed Pollyanna unprepared for national leadership. But none of them knew the real Sarah Palin.

In this eagerly anticipated memoir, Palin paints an intimate portrait of growing up in the wilds of Alaska; meeting her lifelong love; her decision to enter politics; the importance of faith and family; and the unique joys and trials of life as a high-profile working mother. She also opens up for the first time about the 2008 presidential race, providing a rare, mom's-eye view of high-stakes national politics—from patriots dedicated to "Country First" to slick politicos bent on winning at any cost.

Going Roguetraces one ordinary citizen's extraordinary journey and imparts Palin's vision of a way forward for America and her unfailing hope in the greatest nation on earth.
