Keith Richards

price:$14.99
Little, Brown and Company(2010-10-26)
customer 's reviewAs lead guitarist of the Rolling Stones, Keith Richards created the riffs, the lyrics, and the songs that roused the world. A true and towering original, he has always walked his own path, spoken his mind, and done things his own way.
Now at last Richards pauses to tell his story in the most anticipated autobiography in decades. And what a story! Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records in a coldwater flat with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones, building a sound and a band out of music they loved. Finding fame and success as a bad-boy band, only to find themselves challenged by authorities everywhere. Dropping his guitar's sixth string to create a new sound that allowed him to create immortal riffs like those in "Honky Tonk Woman" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash." Falling in love with Anita Pallenberg, Brian Jones's girlfriend. Arrested and imprisoned for drug possession. Tax exile in France and recordingExile on Main Street. Ever-increasing fame, isolation, and addiction making life an ever faster frenzy. Through it all, Richards remained devoted to the music of the band, until even that was challenged by Mick Jagger's attempt at a solo career, leading to a decade of conflicts and ultimately the biggest reunion tour in history.
In a voice that is uniquely and unmistakablyhim--part growl, part laugh--Keith Richards brings us the truest rock-and-roll life of our times, unfettered and fearless and true. Richards' rich voice introduces the audiobook edition of LIFE and leads us into Johnny Depp's performance, while fellow artist Joe Hurley bridges the long road traveled before Richards closes with the final chapter of this incredible 23-hour production, which includes a bonus PDF of photos. Amazon Best Books of the Month, November 2010: It's hard to imagine a celebrity memoir--or any memoir for that matter--that is as easy to drink in (so to speak) as Keith Richards'sLife. Die-hard Stones fans will love tales of the band's ascension from the "interval" band at the Marquee to the headliners at Super Bowl XL; guitar gearheads will scramble to sample the one lick that has eluded Richards for 49 years; and historians and romantics alike will swoon over the raspy, rambling, raucous detail of this portrait of the artistin situ. Yes, some tales are told, butLifeis refreshingly not gossipy, mean-spirited, or sordid--or at least not more than the truth demands. Richards is as comfortable in his bones as a worn pair of boots, andLifecaptures the rhythm of his voice so effortlessly that reading his tale is like sharing a pint with an old friend--one who happens to be one of the most iconic guitarists of all time.--Daphne Durham

Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's reviewSince Lightroom first launched, Scott Kelby'sThe Lightroom Book for Digital Photographershas been the world's #1 best-selling Lightroom book. In this latest version for Lightroom 4, Scott uses his same step-by-step, plain-English style and layout to make learning Lightroom easy and fun. Scott doesn't just show you which sliders do what, and he doesn't just cover the newest features of Lightroom (though, of course, he does that, too, with discussions of the improved Clarity feature, White Balance adjustment brush, photo book capabilities, and much more). Instead, by using the following three simple, yet brilliant, techniques that make it just an incredible learning tool, this book shows you how to create your own photography workflow using Lightroom:
1) Scott shares his own personal settings and studio-tested techniques. He trains thousands of Lightroom users every year, and knows first hand what really works and what doesn't.
2) The entire book is laid out in a real workflow order with everything step by step, so you can begin using Lightroom like a pro from the start.
3) What really sets this book apart is the last chapter. This is where Scott dramatically answers his #1 most-asked Lightroom question, which is: "Exactly what order am I supposed to do things in, and where does Photoshop fit in?"
The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 Book for Digital Photographersis the first and only book to bring the whole process together in such a clear, concise, and visual way. Rerations < The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 Book for Digital Photographers >

Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's reviewGeorge Washington's Mount Vernonbrings together--for the first time--the details of Washington's 45-year endeavor to build and perfect Mount Vernon. In doing so it introduces us to a Washington few of his contemporaries knew, and one little noticed by historians since. Here we meet the planter/patriot who also genuinely loved building, a man passionately human in his desire to impress on his physical surroundings the stamp of his character and personal beliefs. As chief architect and planner of the countless changes made at Mount Vernon over the years, Washington began by imitating accepted models of fashionable taste, but as time passed he increasingly followed his own ideas. Hence, architecturally, as the authors show, Mount Vernon blends the orthodox and the innovative in surprising ways, just as the new American nation would. Equally interesting is the light the book sheds on the process of building at Mount Vernon, and on the people--slave and free--who did the work. Washington was a demanding master, and in their determination to preserve their own independence his workers often clashed with him. Yet, as the Dalzells argue, that experience played a vital role in shaping his hopes for the future of American society--hope that embraced in full measure the promise of the revolution in which he had led his fellow citizens. George Washington's Mount Vernonthus compellingly combines the two sides of Washington's life--the public and the private--and uses the combination to enrich our understanding of both. Gracefully written, with more than 80 photographs, maps, and engravings, the book tells a fascinating story with memorable insight. MindPower Design Books(2012-03-07)
customer 's reviewWith all of the great geniuses of our time, it can be difficult to find a single one that really stands out but apparently, Apple CEO Steve Jobs was one of those who really stood out. Why? Well, for one he was well known for all of his accomplishments in the world of computers. He developed technology that was so advanced for his time that some of the things he built were too advanced to be appreciated during its release. Eventually, the world was able to catch up with all the innovations that he created.
We all know the successful and well-established CEO of Apple. He seems to have it all but does anybody even wonder how he was even able to get to this point? Does anybody really know all the struggles and efforts that he put into his work just so he could get to the top?
Aside from all the tech savvy gadgets and consumer electronics that he created for people around the world, there was still another thing that Steve was well known for. He was an eccentric man with unusual taste and an unconventional belief system. He chose not to follow the norms of the society that he existed in since he practiced several beliefs that most or majority of the people found unusual and even sometimes dangerous. In his early years, he was known as the unhygienic and offensive individual in the office. Quite far from the popular Steve Jobs that you saw through the years, introducing cool gadgets on expos right? At some point in his career, he was even moved to the night shift so that he came into contact with fewer people.
In his later years, he was known to be a firm leader. He had a unique way of showing support and unusual methods of training and motivating his team. He could be hot headed at one moment and turn completely euphoric on the next. It was these types of behaviour and mannerisms that branded him as an eccentric genius. But despite all of these unusual behaviours, he still managed to establish himself in the industry amidst all of the failed attempts that he went through.
He had his fair share of ups and downs riding on that roller coaster we all call life. He was not a perfect man since he did have several confrontations and ruined relationships during his career. He could sometimes be mean to employees by making them see that what they did was not enough. Although when credit was due, he knew how to reward his people for it. Somehow, despite all the weirdness and quirks that made Steve who he was, he still had a knack of making people do what others thought impossible.
Inside that genius of a brain, he had the ability to convince people that they could do anything. That the options were limitless¡V he had the ability to skew one¡¦s perception or outlook but in a positive manner. Let us face it, not all leaders are that effective. He may have been mean to some, but at the end of the day, he knew what the goals of the company were and he knew the most effective way to achieve it.
The living proof of Apple CEO Steve Jobs¡¦ effectiveness as a leader would be in each and every gadget ever sold by the company he created, Apple Computers. From the very first apple computer he created in the 1970¡¦s to the most recent Apple macbook today, the late Steve Paul Jobs left these legacies for the world. These remain as apermanent reminder that man can do great things. Appearances, and sometimes character can be deceiving because the ability to create something great lies within all of us. For some, it took a man like Steve Jobs to unleash that ability.
Within the pages of this book you will discover the different quirks, methods, beliefs and how Steve Jobs saw the world from the days that he was still starting out up to the time when he returned to Apple computers. As you read every page, you will discover that he truly was just a man but with different tastes than the usual. Although some brand his methods as unconventional or sometimes even questionable. Steven Tyler

Ecco(2012-01-03)
Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's reviewThe son of a classical pianist straight out of the Bronx of old Archie comics, Steven Tyler was born to be a rock star. Weaned on Cole Porter, Nat King Cole, Mick—and his beloved Janis Joplin—Tyler began tearing up the streets and the stage as a teenager before finally meeting his "mutant twin" and legendary partner Joe Perry. In this addictively readable memoir, told in the playful, poetic voice that is uniquely his own, Tyler unabashedly recounts the meteoric rise, fall, and rise of Aerosmith over the last three decades and riffs on the music that gives it all meaning. Tyler tells what it's like to be a living legend and the frontman of one of the world's most revered and infamous bands—the debauchery, the money, the notoriety, the fights, the motels and hotels, the elevators, limos, buses and jets, the rehab. He reveals the spiritual side that "gets lost behind the stereotype of the Sex Guy, the Drug Guy, the Demon of Screamin', the Terror of the Tropicana." And he talks abouthis epic romantic life and his relationship with his four children. As dazzling, bold, and out-on-the-edge as the man himself,Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?is an all-access backstage pass into this extraordinary showman's life.
