(Great stuff in here.)
(*Whistles*)
(Awesome book! A must read for all women.) This book is exactly what the title says, a collection of short stories about first time lesbian experiences. The stories are written by women, usually in the first person, and are filled with flowery imagery. This title takes a deep look, mostly through repetition, at the sensual and emotional sides of lesbianism.
Each story left me with a sense of admiration and respect for the virgins at the leaps of faith they made in order to live out their first experience. Certainly in light of the social taboo and potential rejection a journey into homosexuality has the potential to be a devastating occurrence. The women all know this but follow their hearts into relationships to intensely rewarding ends.
This book allowed me a window into my own wife's past as an experimental teenager. I thought it was amazing how closely her story mirrored some of the stories in this book. I would recommend this collection to anyone who thinks they are a lesbian or anyone who is in a relationship with a lesbian/past lesbian.
One last note of warning, this is not a hardcore/pornographic novel; if you are looking for something like that I would recommend "Penthouse Forum" magazines.
I found this collection to be standard. Like most erotica, this compilation has a few shining stars as well as a few stinkers, with most everything else falling in the middle. One of the stories was mediocre in its editing: There were a few times where the author's repeated use of the same word distracted from the reading (After reading only 2 pages, I wanted to ring up the author and yell, "Buy a thesaurus!") Another story was poorly paced: I wanted to sink my teeth into erotica and instead I got three pages of fruit salad recipes. That said, I must give credit for a few good choices by the editor. One nod goes to the fact that she tried to create a balance of romance themes and hard core sexual stories. A second nod goes to her attempts to cater to a wide variety of sexual tastes and fetishes, from vanilla to S&M. If you're in the mood for a decent collection of varied erotica to have on your bookshelf, this is a nice choice. If you're just looking for some reading to whack with, I suggest you save your money and surf up nifty dot org or some other web source. Whether you're a woman and are"bi curious"or you're a guy--there's no need to explain why men would like this book--Awakening the Virgin is a mind blowing and satisfying read about women and women. I've only read one other book that comes close to this one,"The Other Woman"by Kim Corum. I hope to find more becuase these stories are HOT. I don't even know what to say about this book but its great. Ever since reading the book it reminded me of the things that I thought were forgotten.Anywayz this is a must in have in your collection since all the stories are real. All in all a great read. This book was the most awesome book on lesbian relationships I have ever read. The stories are emotional and erotic! I loved every story and highly recommend this book to all women, whether you are straight, bi, or lesbian. This book shows how women relate on all levels, especially sexually. A real eye-opener for the novice or curious. Rerations < Awakening the Virgin >

(It just keeps getting better!)
(Wolf Tales V)
(Kate Douglas does it again...)
(heart warming and hot !!!!!) Anton decides enough is enough for Ulrich not having a mate. He sends Ulrich to meet Millie at the wolf sanctuary. Anton already knows she is Chanku but she doesn't. He sends him to give both of them love. Yet Ulrich gives her more than what she can handle. Her children.
Out shopping for food, Anton, Stefan, Xandi&Keisha hear a mental cry for help. They go to her rescue and take Eve home with them. Eventually her turning to wolf.
Adam is found by the side of the road. Oliver notices immediately that he is the Adam they've been looking for. Of course Oliver brings him home to start him on the pills for his transition to Chanku. He then learns that later on, he finds out that the pack has found his sister and mother. Who eventually meets up. Adam also finds love with Eve but yet he helps Oliver who has been stuck not being able to have any love.
This book was one great read. Bringing the whole family together with the help of all of the packs. I could not wait to get to the next book. These two stories had to be the most heartwarming yet! I love that Ulrich found love again, and that Bay finally has a mate of his own. Manda turned out to be the best heroine yet. Her story is so sad, and for her to find her true destiny is just amazing. One thing, however, that bugs me is the fact that so many of the characters stories aren't told in the Wolf Tales books. They're in the Sexy Beast anthologies. I wasn't aware of that fact until recently, with the mention of Bay's sister Tala. Her story, along with Mik and AJ, is told in Sexy Beast II, which I have yet to read. And Adam, who we're given a glimps in the epilogue of WTV, is introduced in Sexy Beast IV, which I've also yet to read. This time not just one male from the Chanku pack is sent to find a missing female, but two of them are. Double the fur, double the fun?
Ulrich Mason is one of the oldest of the pack and lost his mate long ago. When asked to check out a possible female Chanku at the wolf sanctuary, Ulrich decides to go and see. All he knows is that she is the new manager of the sanctuary and that her name is Mille; oh, and she is in her fifties. Millie West has had a tough life, but she is where she is most comfortable. With her wolves and running the Sanctuary. That is until Ulrich shows up and opens her world in a way she never imagined. The attraction quickly turns into love and passion, but Millie has another secret that she is scared will make Ulrich turn away from her. When the truth comes out, Millie just might end up with much more than just a lifetime with Ulrich.
Baylor Quinn is one of the newer members of the pack. He loves his pack mates, but wonders if he will ever have what they do. When Baylor is asked to go and check out a story that just might be a lead to another female Chanku, he leaves quickly. Just the chance that he might discover not only another Chanku but maybe even his mate has Baylor heading to a small town in the hills. Manda Smith is positive she is suffering from a curse because of her natural instincts. She has had to hide from everyone for the majority of her life but that didn't stop people she trusted from abusing her horribly. Now Baylor and Manda not only have to get her through all the hurts and pain of Manda's past, but also have to try and see if she can ever be part of a normal relationship and a member of her new pack. If that isn't enough for one confused young woman, Manda and her new pack mates discover there is more in Manda's history then anyone could have guessed.
Wolf Tales V at first seemed like two storylines going on at the same time, but I was happy to discover that there was a wonderful reason for the dual focuses. Baylor and Ulrich have been sent by their pack to search out two women that just might be part of the Chanku. They agree for reasons of their own and discover just what being a Chanku can truly mean. Millie and Manda have both lived difficult lives, although in very different circumstances. However, when they are confronted with the hot and sexy man sent to them, neither Millie nor Manda even think to refuse to follow them. I absolutely loved that Ms. Douglas brought in the joining of Ulrich and Millie, who will certainly be one of the older matings in the pack, with as much passion and sensitivity as she does with the younger members. I was also relieved when Baylor used compassion, understanding and even rage when dealing with Manda and what had happened to her. I will say that some of the sexual encounters might be uncomfortable for some readers, but I was okay as they were part of the stories that were being told. Wolf Tales V has all the hot passion, compassionate understanding and sexy couples that has come to be expected with the Chanku, and it has an ending that is superb. If you have been following the story of the Chanku, then Wolf Tales V is not to be missed.
Jo reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed I enjoyed this book alot!!!!The plot was simple but very well done. And I fell in love with Bay during the last book, lol!!!I recommend this book to anyone looking for a book that is hot, erotic, and still filled with love and tenderness. i was so proud of kate for this chapter of wolf tales. it really was not only wet your seat erotic, it had a sweet heart warming love story on 2 different levels. well done kate douglas!!!!!! Two Couples, One Wicked Passion. Welcome To The Wild Side Of Love...Life hasn't always been easy for strong-willed Millie West, but it's been a hell of a lot simpler without romantic entanglements. Millie finds her pleasure when and where she wants it, although what she's gotten from regular guys has never been quite enough. When she meets Ulrich Mason, she finally learns why. Imbued with the sexual prowess of the Chanku pack, Ulrich is the perfect partner to help Millie embrace the birthright that has been denied her for too long. But will the very ritual that binds them in ultimate pleasure reveal secrets that could destroy them both...? Like his pack brother, Taylor Quinn is on a mission to bring a Chanku female into the fold--but his quarry is far wilder than any he has yet encountered. Caught in a feral limbo between woman and wolf, Manda is scarred by the cruelty of a world that has never understood her. It will take patience, compassion, and the healing hand of a master lover to help Manda embrace her own sensual powers--and the mate who loves her beyond measure... Tark Classic Fiction

(Classic text with richly illustrated ideals and a complex plot, although not explicitly realized. Recommended)
(Very different from what I expected)
(love it)
(An Interesting Foray into Relationship Ideas) The term "Masochism" was named for the author of Venus in Furs, Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, who wrote his own personal fantasies in a semi-autobiographical novella. I read this book in one night and could not put it down. The beginning and middle were entirely gripping as a young man, who has always feared women, is enveloped in his love and obsession for a woman he feels embodies Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. A sickly erotic relationship develops as the couple fall in love where the young man begs his Venus in furs to be his master and treat him like her slave. As the novella continues, the masochistic relationship develops to a point where I felt a little disinterested and somewhat turned off and frustrated by the loss of passion and affection in the name of self destruction. However, this tale tells of love in a way that many are curious about yet never glimpse. I study Art History, especially Symbolism, and having done a lot of research about Gustav Klimt, I have noticed many interested and fascinating parallels between Klimt and the narrator on their view of women as being a dangerous siren and overpowering being. "Venus in Furs" captured me with its type of twisted erotica meshed into deep love and powerful emotions. At the end I understood in a very impressing way the story behind the painting introduced at the beginning of the novella that subsequently was its close, the painting of a semi-nude Venus in furs with a whip standing over her pathetically devoted lover. Severin von Kusiemski is a European nobleman who has always fantasized about and found pleasure in pain and submission, a condition that he terms suprasensuality. In his memoir he recounts an affair with Wanda von Dunajew, a woman of voluptuous, cruel sexuality. He asks to become her slave and submits to increasingly degrading treatment--until Wanda meet a man to whom she wishes to submit. A classic text, Venus in Furs has a writing style that may not appeal to all readers: the narratives delves deeper into desires and relationships than action and sexual acts and has an airy, self-indulgent tone. This narrative voice, however, creates an intimate view of "suprasensuality"--a sort of masochism that predates (and originates) the term, and the ethereal style allows Sacher-Masoch to build up and break down the ideal of the cruel mistress. Worth reading for concept and significance alone, the text is softly seductive and swiftly readable. I recommend it.
To describe the sexual desire to receive pain, Krafft-Ebbing created the word "masochism" from Sacher-Masoch's name. Krafft-Ebbing's research is now out of date, but the word is still in use. Likewise a lot has changed since the book's publishing, but Venus in Furs remains an early exploration of masochistic desires and a sadomasochistic relationship, and is in some ways foundational and in some still relevant. Severin idealizes Wanda: replacing the statue of Venus, iconographed in a painting, she becomes the archetype of the merciless woman. Naming and describing his own suprasensuality, Severin creates an ideal also for the submissive man, who fetishizes the paraphernalia of powerful women, who falls in thrall at a women's feet, who submits to degradation and abuse--and finds pleasure in it all. The lovers often discuss the causes and boundaries of their relationship, and Severin's narrative pauses frequently for introspection and artistic descriptions. All told, Venus in Furs is both portrait and exploration of a sadomasochistic relationship. Some of these aspects are outdated and some may not ring true to the reader, but in Sacher-Masoch's text they are both archetypal and real, a strong fictional entrance into the topic which still readable, relevant, and thought-provoking today.
Two aspects, however, alter this view of the novel. First, the writing style sometimes glosses over the essential content of the relationship. Sacher-Masoch spends plenty of time on motivation and lead up, but little on actual action--sexual aspects, both intercourse and sadistic/masochistic scenes, are brief or absent. Although hardly surprising (especially given the content and publishing date), this deficiency restricts the text to the theoretical. The characters and desires--although well crafted--are rendered somewhat insubstantial. The writing becomes dreamlike, detouring often and only ghosting over action, and this style is somewhat inaccessible. Secondly, Wanda and Severin's relationship takes a dramatic turn in the second half of the book, changing the characters and also the sadomasochistic relationship. This change is more of a complication than a drawback. It muddies the idealized view of the characters and desires, but also creates a plot--granting the book a direction and purpose greater than simply illustrating ideals.
All of this in barely more than 100 pages: Venus in Furs moves swiftly through even its languorous introspection, and packs a lot into a very small space. The book is worth reading both for the early concept of masochism and a sadomasochistic relationship and for its characters, plot, and unusual narrative voice. The novel does read like a classic, but remains accessible to a modern audience. Personally, I wasn't blown away by this book but I was generally impressed and glad to return to one of the literary "sources," as it were, of the topic. On that basis I was pleased, and I recommend the book. I wanted to read this book for years, and when it finally crossed my radar here at Amazon, I snapped it up with very high expectations. However, my reading experience was very different from my expectations of it.
Considering that Sacher-Masoch's name ended up being a synonym for an entire branch of sexuality, I was disappointed to discover that Venus in Furs is *not* a story about a masochistic relationship (except in a more dysfunctional meaning of the word).
While the main characters do enjoy some aspects of masochism/sadism, they mainly use it as a weapon against each other in an intense gender power struggle. People in the fetish community will recognize the term "topping from the bottom", (and others will be more familiar with "passive-aggressive"), where the submissive/masochistic partner tries to use his/her "sacrifice" to gain covert control over the relationship and the dominant partner, while avoiding actually taking responsibility for what happens. If you're looking for a genuine story about the sadistic/masochistic aspect of human sexuality, you will be disappointed by Venus in Furs.
On the other hand, this book is an intense historical document about the Western view of gender and relationships a hundred years ago, which is still very much present in today's Western countries. It's fascinating, funny, sad and horrifying at the same time, to be for a while steeped into an idea of the world in which relationships are a brute power struggle in which one side must always lose, and the only way a person can hope to keep both his/her self and his/her beloved is to "win" by deception, intimidation, domination, violence and mind-games. It's a story about wounded, neurotic, fearful and repressed love in a culture which applied Nitsche and Darwin very literally and simplistically to every aspect of human life. well done the story line kept my attention the entire time i read it.you really start to understand why he was the way that he was. Leopold von Sacher-Masoch is the root for the term masochism and he portrays this in his novel 'Venus in Furs' by depicting the personal discovery of a young man whose relationship takes a turn when he realizes he wants to stay with his "venus" no matter the consequences. This devolves into his own urge to be treated badly by his lover, and results in his ultimately getting exactly what he wished for.
Told from the point of view of the man when he is older, he tells the story to another young man as a lesson to avoid suffering the pains he has suffered. Told with fascinating language and imagery, it is a book that offers an understanding of the source of the term "masochism" and provides a nice short story in and of itself. Please visit www.ArcManor.com for other great books. Leopold von Sacher-Masoch was born in Lemberg, Austrian Galicia, on January 27, 1836. He studied jurisprudence at Prague and Graz, and in 1857 became a teacher at the latter university. He published several historical works, but soon gave up his academic career to devote himself wholly to literature. For a number of years he edited the international review, Auf der Hohe, at Leipzig, but later removed to Paris, for he was always strongly Francophile. His last years he spent at Lindheim in Hesse, Germany, where he died on March 9, 1895. In 1873 he married Aurora von Rumelin, who wrote a number of novels under the pseudonym of Wanda von Dunajew, which it is interesting to note is the name of the heroine of Venus in Furs. Her sensational memoirs which have been the cause of considerable controversy were published in 1906. During his career as writer an endless number of works poured from Sacher-Masoch's pen. Many of these were works of ephemeral journalism, and some of them unfortunately pure sensationalism, for economic necessity forced him to turn his pen to unworthy ends. There is, however, a residue among his works which has a distinct literary and even greater psychological value. His principal literary ambition was never completely fulfilled. It was a somewhat programmatic plan to give a picture of contemporary life in all its various aspects and interrelations under the general title of the Heritage of Cain. This idea was probably derived from Balzac's Comedie Humaine. The whole was to be divided into six subdivisions with the general titles Love, Property, Money, The State, War, and Death. Each of these divisions in its turn consisted of six novels, of which the last was intended to summarize the author's conclusions and to present his solution for the problems set in the others. This extensive plan remained unachieved, and only the first two parts, Love_ and _Property, were completed. Of the other sections only fragments remain. The present novel, Venus in Furs, forms the fifth in the series, Love. The best of Sacher-Masoch's work is characterized by a swift narration and a graphic representation of character and scene and a rich humor. The latter has made many of his shorter stories dealing with his native Galicia little masterpieces of local color. Rerations < Venus in Furs >

(Good storyline....)
(Great passion but slightly forced sexual tension)
(I'd Fall for him too!)
(Fall Fury is Fantastic) Max is a werewolf and his family is branching out to become top alpha's in the country, and he is ready for a mate. Shannon is part of a family with abilities to manipulate weather, and its her season. They have been brought together by Shannon's family wanting to expand their hotel business in New Orlean's, Max was going to help with public relations which is what Shannon was handling by herself. Shannon does not need or want Max's interference with her job (or her life), she is in control and she is going to make that clear from the start...but she doesn't know that Max is an alpha werewolf. As their passions rise Max tries to find a way to let Shannon know what he is, after all her mother has already figured it out, and Shannon tries to cope with his dominating personality. What will happen when Shannon realizes that Max is a werewolf? Will Shannon be able to give up some control over her life for Max? Read this book and find out how Jaci brings this all together.
I thought this book was much better than Aidan's story, but I am huge werewolf fan so I am partial. I thought the chemistry between Shannon and Max was sizzling. I recommend this book and I will be checking out more books from this author. I liked this book fine, it's not going to go on my keeper shelf or anything, but all in all a good quick read. Shannon is likeable enough though a bit too stubborn. Max is a great character with an abundance of patience when dealing with Shannon. The meet, sparks fly, she is in denial because she's afraid of loosing who she is. Hence ensues the wooing and winning of Shannon by Max. Good installment in the series. I do love Ms. Burton's writing and all the wonderful heat she generates between her main characters, but this one seemed a bit forced with the whole need for Max to "find his mate." Although I've liked the "weather magic" in the Storm family stories, I'm not a huge fan of the werewolf theme. And yes, while the "passionate" scenes are truly great, there aren't many in the book overall. Fall Fury is the continuation of two other books Jaci Burton has written - A Storm For All Seasons : Summer Heat ( chronicalling the elementally magical Storm family ) and Devlin Dynasty ( werewolves).
This time Max Devlin, werewolf of Boston, is in search of a mate. He knows exactly who he wants: Shannon Storm, fiery daughter of New Orleans's Storm family. And since he's been sent to help them with their P. R. campaign extolling their new casino its time to make his move. They'll be working together every day in the sultry southern heat and fall hasn't gotten chilly yet...
Shannon can't believe her family thinks she needs help with public relations and she doesn't want anything to do with the northerner they've brought in. And if her mother and sister don't shut up about her "destiny" soon she may just have to conjure a storm to do it for them. And why does a wolf suddenly show up in her neighborhood stalking her?!
For those who loved the previose novels the love scenes in this book are few but far more explicit ( if possible) than previousely. Seriousely, even if you've been a romance reader for years, you are still going to blush over this one! The story is also better, I thought, in this book than the others. I only wish Ms. Burton would finallly get around to chilly Logan's story! Book 2 of the Devlin Dynasty series and Book 2 of the Storm For All Seasons series, this book successfully merges the two. Shannon Storm is an independent woman with a successful career within her family's New Orleans based business. Max Devlin is a PR hot shot working with Shannon on her family's latest business venture. Max isn't just in town for business but to establish himself in his recent move from Boston and to find a mate.
I loved this book! The sexual tension between Max and Shannon is intense. The plot creative! If you like your romance red-hot, pick up a copy of this book. I've loved every Jaci Burton novel and this one was no exception. Her imagination is fertile and her narrative well written. I highly recommend this author. Book 2 in the Devlin Dynasty series This book features Shannon Storm from the "Storm For All Seasons" series. Fall Fury is also Book 2 of that series. Shannon Storm is the feisty, independent director of Public Relations for her family-run hotel, The Rising Storm. She's less than thrilled at the arrival of Max Devlin, hotshot PR guru from Boston, but has no choice other than work with him on the new casino venture. Like the magical elements of fall that she possesses, Shannon's emotions run hot and cold where Max is concerned. She guards her heart under leaves of indifference, but beneath she's boiling with need for what only Max can give her. Max Devlin is on more than just a PR mission on his trek to New Orleans. Not only is he there to work on the casino project, but he's setting down roots in Louisiana. And the first step is to find a mate. The trouble is, Max harbors a secret that he's going to have to very carefully reveal to the woman he's chosen. That woman is the cool on the surface, hot within Shannon Storm. He wonders if Shannon's feelings are powerful enough to accept who and what he is. By the light of a full New Orleans moon, their magic will merge, and two people with secrets to hide must learn to trust in their love before their destinies can unfold. However an outsider Carl Burns has learned the ecstatic truth about them and seeks proof by stalking Xandi, threatening to expose her and her clan unless the quartet can find a means to stop him.
"Tiger, Tiger" by Noelle Mack. In the Tibetan Himalayas, were-snow tiger Jack wants the courageous female climber Dani that he rescues as his. However, though the beast "lures" the beauty into his lair, he wonders how to persuade her that he is the only man for her.
"Night of the Jaguar" by Vivi Anna. Ecstatic about her journey, Myra travels to the Amazon, but her dream turns nightmarish when she is hurt with no one around for miles to help her. In her fever dreams she sees a were-jaguar rescue her. When Myra regains consciousness she finds herself safe and craving to claw every inch of the body and soul of her rescuer Xalvador.
These three exhilaratingly heated supernatural romances star were-hunks coming to the rescue of females in trouble.
