customer 's reviewSir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was a Scottish physician and writer known around the world for his stories about detective Sherlock Holmes, which all but created the literary field of crime fiction and made the name Sherlock Holmes synonymous with detectives. Aside from the Sherlock Holmes stories, he was a prolific writer whose other works include science fiction stories, historical novels, plays and romances, poetry, and non-fiction.
Conan Doyle wrote four full length Sherlock Holmes novels: A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and The Valley of Death. But the famous detective was so popular that Conan Doyle also wrote dozens of short stories. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is one of the most popular collections of short stories, consisting of a dozen stories featuring the detective. These were the first of the Sherlock Holmes short stories, originally published as single stories in the Strand Magazine from July 1891 to June 1892. The book was published in England on 14 October 1892 by George Newnes Ltd and in a US Edition on 15 October by Harper.
The 12 stories in this collection are: • "A Scandal in Bohemia" • "The Adventure of the Red-Headed League" • "A Case of Identity" • "The Boscombe Valley Mystery" • "The Five Orange Pips" • "The Man with the Twisted Lip" • "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle" • "The Adventure of the Speckled Band" • "The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb" • "The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor" • "The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet" • "The Adventure of the Copper Beeches"
This edition of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is specially formatted with a Table of Contents and includes images of Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes, and scenes from the stories.

customer 's reviewBeloved classic describes a little girl's adventures in a topsy-turvy land underground and her encounters with such improbable characters as the White Rabbit, March Hare and Mad Hatter, the sleepy Dormouse, grinning Cheshire Cat, Mock Turtle, and the dreadful Queen of Hearts. Includes all 42 of Sir John Tenniel's original illustrations. Source of legend and lyric, reference and conjecture,Alice's Adventures in Wonderlandis for most children pure pleasure in prose. While adults try to decipher Lewis Carroll's putative use of complex mathematical codes in the text, or debate his alleged use of opium, young readers simply dive with Alice through the rabbit hole, pursuing "The dream-child moving through a land / Of wonders wild and new." There they encounter the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts, the Mock Turtle, and the Mad Hatter, among a multitude of other characters--extinct, fantastical, and commonplace creatures. Alice journeys through this Wonderland, trying to fathom the meaning of her strange experiences. But they turn out to be "curiouser and curiouser," seemingly without moral or sense. For more than 130 years, children have reveled in the delightfullynon-moralistic,non-educational virtues of this classic. In fact, at every turn, Alice's new companions scoff at her traditional education. The Mock Turtle, for example, remarks that he took the "regular course" in school: Reeling, Writhing, and branches of Arithmetic-Ambition, Distraction, Uglification, and Derision. Carroll believed John Tenniel's illustrations were as important as his text. Naturally, Carroll's instincts were good; the masterful drawings are inextricably tied to the well-loved story. customer 's reviewWhen her parents die, teenager Gail Dorjee retreats into an angry, sarcastic shell. She hopes it will ease her pain, but all it gets her is a one-way trip from Kansas to a Seattle boarding school, the elite Osland Academy.
As soon as she arrives, Gail clashes with Diana, the leader of the school's most powerful clique. The Winged make Gail's life hell until she find allies: her airhead roommate; a cowardly fellow victim of the Winged; and, bit by bit, Diana's boyfriend--the seemingly heartless Nick.
Gail soon has bigger problems than Diana. One of her teachers hates her. Glasses shatter and fountains erupt around her. She can't swear no matter how hard she tries. An unseen force is keeping her on campus. And worst of all, she uncovers a plot that will give one person a precious gift at the cost of thousands of lives. Now Gail and her friends must stop the plot--not just to save lives, but to win a brain, the nerve, a heart and a home in this modern urban fantasy take on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Now Apophis is threatening to plunge the world into eternal darkness, and the Kanes are faced with the impossible task of having to destroy him once and for all. Unfortunately, the magicians of the Houseof Life are on the brink of civil war, the gods are divided, and the young initiates of Brooklyn House stand almost alone against the forces of chaos. The Kanes' only hope is an ancient spell that might turn the serpent's own shadow into a weapon, but the magic has been lost for a millennia. To find the answer they need, the Kanes must rely on the murderous ghost of a powerful magician who might be able to lead them to the serpent's shadow . . . or might lead them to their deaths in the depths of the underworld. Nothing less than the mortal world is at stake when the Kane family fulfills its destiny in this thrilling conclusion to the Kane Chronicles. Amazon Exclusive: What are Sadie and Carter Kane Reading? customer 's review"Molly And The Chocolate Cookie Crumb Race" is about three field mice who risk entering the country church during Sunday services. Molly, Purcey and Charlie race each other every Sunday to the chocolate cookie crumbs that are usually always under the third pew on the right. Molly loves chocolate cookie crumbs very much and she really likes to win the race. Molly also enjoys listening to the children's messages about God and his love. She wonders if God loves her, since most people don't seem to like mice.

customer 's reviewChildren love to find hidden pictures. This little book has 10 activity pages with over 100 things for children to search for. The pictures are full color, but they work on the black and white Kindle too.
There are pictures of what to find, so young children who can't read can search. I put the pictures to look for on the same page, so you don't have to turn the page to find your things, with the exception of the last page that has pictures to go back through the book to find.
Amy the Alien is hiding on each page. (She's on the cover too! Can you find her?) Finding Amy was my 7 year old's favorite part.
This is not a large book. If you're going on a long trip and need something to entertain your child for hours, this is not it. But this is a great little book to help pass the time while waiting at the doctor's office.
**Please note: This is not an interactive game. It is a book, like a paper book, only for the Kindle. Kids look and try to find the pictures, much like finding Waldo or the I Spy books.**

Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's reviewSummer vacation sucks when 12-year-old Buzz Collins shares his room and emotional space with his grandfather, who has Alzheimer's disease, and his parents forbid him to associate with his best friend, Mitch. The thought of giving up his friendship is bad enough. But how can he relate to someone who forgets his grandson's name, wears adult diapers, and thinks dog biscuits are people cookies-someone who could die in the night and scare Buzz right out of puberty. Buzz thinks Alzheimer's is caused by a traumatic event, such as the train accident that killed Grandpa's brother Barkley in childhood. The situation turns deadly when Buzz and Mitch attempt to cure Grandpa of Alzheimer's disease by recreating the train accident on a hot summer day. People who enjoyed the movie "Stand by Me" will enjoy Down the Memory Hole. (Ages 12&up)
