I’ve got no choice but to warn you. Read further, the truth will be revealed and it will enslave you. You don’t want to know how the Universe works. I know I didn’t.
I don’t care who you are or what you believe—Christian, Muslim, Hindi, Wiccan, Atheist, anything and everything. You’re all wrong.
The following is a story of my life after I got drafted by God to fight the minions of darkness. Jehovah of the Holy Bible exists and holy warriors are needed to defend us.
If you’re wise, you’ll set this book down now and walk away. Keep your illusions; they won’t hurt you. Learn too much, open the door that is better left closed, and you’ll be fighting by my side.

Usually ships in 24 hours Dust from the demolished Berlin Wall has barely settled, the East German police state is teetering on the edge of collapse, and Stasi General Holger Frantz will stop at nothing to save it. Caught in his intrigue are two unlikely heroes: American lawyer Rolf Keller, recently divorced, fresh off the bottle, and mysteriously dispatched by his senior partner to coordinate document drops by a defecting Stasi agent, and aspiring opera diva Sylvia Mazzoni, Rolf's former lover who has been coerced into acting as courier. When the document drop goes fatally awry, the reluctant recruits flee into the East German countryside. They manage to unearth the defector's secret document cache and uncover a covert assassination plot. Stalked by a Stasi killer, they struggle to decipher the plan, but when he marches them into the Bavarian woods, all seems lost-their effort to foil the assassins, German unification, and their very lives. The air of mystery is evident from the beginning. No reader would be left guessing at its genre. The actions moves along perfectly and there is danger in the air. Very strong writing and perfect pacing. I certainly wanted to read more. The strongest aspect of this excerpt is definitely the suspense factor. When I finished reading, I just knew this was on the way to being a good suspense/thriller. Fantastic writing. This is a well polished piece of work and I think is on the way to being a great book. Timothy Garton Ash

Usually ships in 24 hours "Eloquent, aware and scrupulous . . . a rich and instructive examination of the Cold War past." --The New York Times
In 1978 a romantic young Englishman took up residence in Berlin to see what that divided city could teach him about tyranny and freedom. Fifteen years later Timothy Garton Ash--who was by then famous for his reportage of the downfall of communism in Central Europe--returned. This time he had come to look at a file that bore the code-name "Romeo." The file had been compiled by the Stasi, the East German secret police, with the assistance of dozens of informers. And it contained a meticulous record of Garton Ash's earlier life in Berlin.
In this memoir, Garton Ash describes what it was like to rediscover his younger self through the eyes of the Stasi, and then to go on to confront those who actually informed against him to the secret police. Moving from document to remembrance, from the offices of British intelligence to the living rooms of retired Stasi officers, The File is a personal narrative as gripping, as disquieting, and as morally provocative as any fiction by George Orwell or Graham Greene. And it is all true.
"In this painstaking, powerful unmasking of evil, the wretched face of tyranny is revealed." --Philadelphia Inquirer When Timothy Garton Ash graduated from Oxford in 1978, he went to live in Berlin, ostensibly to research and write about Nazism. But once there, he gradually immersed himself in a study of the repressive political culture of East Germany. As if to return the favor, that culture--in the form of the dreaded East German secret police, the "Stasi"--secretly began studying him. As was Stasi's practice, over the years its study produced a considerable paper trail. After the fall of the East German communist regime, a government apparatus was established to allow those targeted to see their Stasi files, and Garton Ash discovered and pored over his. He then set about to interview the people who made this gross intrusion possible, the several case officers, and the numerous regular-citizen informers. The result is nothing short of a journey into the darkest recesses of the totalitarian mind, taking its place honorably alongside1984andDarkness at Noon. Rerations < The File: A Personal History >

Atheneum Books for Young Readers(2007-09-25)
Usually ships in 24 hours When suburban Claudia Kincaid decides to run away, she knows she doesn't just want to runfromsomewhere she wants to runtosomewhere--to a place that is comfortable, beautiful, and preferably elegant. She chooses the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Knowing that her younger brother, Jamie, has money and thus can help her with the serious cash flow problem she invites him along.Once settled into the museum, Claudia and Jamie, find themselves caught up in the mystery of an angel statue that the museum purchased at an auction for a bargain price of $250. The statue is possibly an early work of the Renaissance master Michelangelo, and therefore worth millions. Is it? Or isn't it? Claudia is determined to find out. This quest leads Claudia to Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, the remarkable old woman who sold the statue and to some equally remarkable discoveries about herself. After reading this book, I guarantee that you will never visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art (or any wonderful, old cavern of a museum) without sneaking into the bathrooms to look for Claudia and her brother Jamie. They're standing on the toilets, still, hiding until the museum closes and their adventure begins. Such is the impact of timeless novels . . . they never leave us. E. L. Konigsburg won the 1967 Newbery Medal for this tale of how Claudia and her brother run away to the museum in order to teach their parents a lesson. Little do they know that mystery awaits!
