Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(The most underrated game of all time)
『Personally, I can't understand what drives people to rate and review this game based solely on its intention to "bring the series back to its roots". Does no one have it in them to judge it on its own merits? It boggles my mind why VIII and IX are essentially ignored by fans of the series. Out of all the games, this one receives the littlest attention, being passed off only as "the last game with deformed characters". Okay, why is it not remembered as "the magnificent entry in the series featuring Zidane, Garnet, Steiner, Vivi, Eiko, Amarant, Freya, and Quina", in the same node as we place games like FFVI and FFVII? Let's be honest; if this had been released in VII's place, no one would have a clue who Cloud or Tifa were. It all has to do with the placement in the series. Had this been the game to change the face of Final Fantasy forever, it would be remembered far more fondly. Final Fantasy games are typically released in threes for their respective platforms; I - III for NES, IV - VI for SNES, VII - IX for PS, then X - XII for PS2 (even though XI basically doesn't count for anything but an online game that should never have been included in the numbered series). As a result, IX becomes completely lost in the thick shadow of its two primary predecessors, VII and VIII. While VII is fondly remembered by all as the game that changed RPGs forever, and VIII is given far more negative views, how is IX remembered? As "a nod to the series' roots before X". That's it. No special remembrance of the characters, no references to the story in other games, nothing. But how could anyone in their right mind not love it? It's the most definitive game of the series. With the largest soundtrack, the greatest music, the best characters, and some of the most fun gameplay, anyone who shrugs it off for the likes of VII or X or something of the like can't possibly be playing the same game I did. Never once throughout the series, save for VI, was I as entranced by a game. Sure, Kuja may not be the most memorable villain, and sure he's a little overtly feminine, but he's also not a deranged lunatic bent on "returning to the planet" like Sephiroth, either. When you compare Kuja's motives to Sephiroth's, who's the more vile? It's impossible to top the insurmountable craziness of Kefka (VI), but Kuja still comes in as a close second. There are a few gripes I have regarding this game, however, but only a select few. First, the "trance" system. Whoever's idea it was to have the trance meter simply reset after battle no matter how much of it was used or not should be fired. When you're leveling and trying to get your characters' trance bars filled, and suddenly you finish the battle just as it does so, you're looking at a bunch of time wasted! This flaw is one of the most frustrating things about this game. Also, quite notable, is the end of Disc 3, specifically the Shimmering Island chapter. Once you're in, there's no escape. Plus, there's no leveling up either. You're faced with battle after battle there and if you haven't leveled high enough for this particular stage of the game, kiss those 40+ hours of playing goodbye! Unless, of course, you saved just before entering, but some of us aren't that lucky. All in all, an amazing game. Those two flaws don't nearly come close to knocking down a star of my rating. In fact, now that I've warned you of the second one, that's one less flaw you have to worry about. All I can say is, pay no attention to all these idiot reviews across the world raving about FFVII for being "the best of the series". Sure, that game is amazing in its own way, as is every FF, but let's face it; there is nothing visually appealing about it when you break it down. Sure, it may be a PS game, but I found myself glossing over the much larger amount of detail put into its SNES predecessors far more often than its blocky, textureless characters and horribly plotholed story (which this Compilation of FFVII is doing nothing to mend, but rather hinder even further). At any rate, buy this game, along with FFIV and FFVI for the best experience the FF series can offer, along with X and XII. But to be honest, this game is no less great than any of the others. It just takes adapting to new things and pretty soon you'll be as engrossed in this game's plot and gameplay as I was. The only reason I can see someone disliking this game is if their feng shui swings more toward actions games and shooters to begin with. Simply put: if you have ever considered giving the FF series a try, DO NOT PASS THIS UP. Pay no attention to the naysayers; this is the game to own.』

(It kept my kid borther happy now I can work peacefully!)
『Not much to say except this, if this is a final fantasy game it's gotta be good except the online and 12, buy this game if you feel nostalgic.』

(Great game)
『I bought this for my boyfriend and he loves it and stayed up all night playing!』

(Not Amazingly Awesome But Recommended)
『So far this game has been fun. This game is not for the type that can't sit down for more then one hour, because this game is a long one. The graphics are good for when it was made but sometimes it is hard to tell where something is like the weapon shop or item shop. The story in the game is interesting but you need to read almost everything to completely understand what is going on or you will get lost. The one thing I really like about this game a lot is that it still has the traditional final fantasy fighting sequence unlike FFXII (which is still a good game). If I could rate this one out of ten I would give it a eight out of ten. I hope who ever gets this game will enjoy it.』

(The last of the great Final Fantasy titles)
『I am of the opinion that this is the last of the great Final Fantasy titles (newly released anyway, not including the re-makes of some of the older installments). As much as I thought that FF8 was an awesome game, I wasn't too crazy about the overly-complicated battle system at the time. So I thought it was great that they streamlined it for FF9. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical at first when they revealed the plot was going to take place in a midevil setting because they risked losing some of the originality. But this game was still very original nonetheless.

While this game overall is not extremely easy, I thought the final boss in the game was fairly easy - especially compared with Sephiroth and Ultimecia.』

『Dark times have spread over the world of Gaia. Four separate governing nations, some blinded by their short-sighted greed, some persevering in the name of justice, are battling on and off in a deadly game for power. One kingdom, that of Lindblum, headed by the honorable and trustworthy Regent Cid, finally decides to take a stand against the unspeakable massacres by the troops of Alexandria. Enl』

(play on)
『If you played all the other final fantasy games you will also love this one
I just got into it and I can't quick . So you will love this game too』

(Always a pain)
『I am a huge fan of final fantasy and after 6 years I decided to break down and buy ffxi. The main reason I did not previously is due to not having a 360 or pc capible of handing the game. When I first started the game was great and I found a group of other newbs to hang out with and do the early missions and quests with. The big problem I have is that after level 20 you need a party to do nearly everything, including level your job.

Finding a party can sometimes be difficult and frustrating. After a year of playing I still could not find anyone who would run the Chains of Promathia missions with me. Either the other players had done them and did not want to do them again or they just didnt want to do them at all. I at one time had 10 linkshells and still had a hard time finding anyone who wanted to do anything other than A: level or B: do dynamis (after level 65).

And dont even start me on the leveling. Its PAAAAAINFUL. It takes forever to level up a job. I have 2 jobs above level 60 (ninja and red mage) and when I found a party to work on leveling each party had a different idea of how you should play your job in that party. Then if you didnt play it exactly as they thought you should it caused inner party conflict (usually with someone who has a level 75 job and thinks they are the mmo god, you know "those types")

Anyways after about a year of frustration I finally quit the game and now look back on it with a sigh and wonder of why I wasted so much time.

Unless you have a group just starting together or willing to run missions and quests this game is not with the time. Try a non-mmo final fantasy for better game play and less frustration. Sure there is not as much to do, but u can level faster and at least you can do everything the game has to offer.』

(Best MMoRPG!)
『FFXI is for the ADVANCED MMoRPG gamer. A very difficult game for younger generations. A game made in Japan...where no detail is too small...a world where everything can affect you and you can affect everything. From the type of day, to the type of weather in your area, to who is in control of your region, to who you are invading- can affect the way you grow things, your craft, your mount raising, your magical attributes, what equipment/items are available to you. There is no way you can run out of things to do in this game. Tired of leveling? Start a craft, raise a mount(s), gain fame in your home country, fight against other players from opposing countries, work missions from your government to gain rank, join a guild, create a guild, run quests, defend outposts, invade enemy lands, expand your countries borders, gather with fellow adventurers to prevent cities from being overrun by beastmen(in a war-like battlefront) and even more!!! You will never find yourself in a position where there is nothing left to accomplish.

People interaction: There are no French servers; german servers; japanese servers; american servers. Everyone is all thrown in together from all over the world in several servers(servers for population control only). Communicate with people on the other side of the globe using in-game automatic translation dictionaries.

Lots of holiday events! Watch your home country decorated in lights and colors during christmas holidays or chase spooky ghosts huanting your town during halloween, or join in an easter hunt!

You will need help if you are barely starting this game as it is very different from other MMoRPGs(i.e. World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Everquest) Everything is original in this game. Be sure to make friends, join a guild/linkshell, or have friends join you as it can be EXTREMEMLY difficult to play on your own. Like I said, this is a game for the advanced MMoRPG gamer. *your game will start out in low quality, be sure to adjust your settings to your satisfaction*』

(Very bad online support)
『Bad support! I called them 4 times and waited for about an hour. They need some sort of 3D credit card verification. Bank of America MasterCard is not supported. I had several level 75 jobs. You can tell how much time I invested :(
I canceled my 3 accounts. I don't feel I missed it. I feel I enjoy my evening more after I quit.』

(Requires patience)
『This game can be slow through certain levels as you have to struggle through a lot of questing to obtain simple basic nessesities. Later in the game as you unlock new jobs and areas it begins to get interesting again. Unfortunately, this game has a slower pace than most games of its type and frequently is plodding or boring as it forces you into inactivity or semi-inactivity for extended periods of time.
Sadly, the one thing that used to make this game the most interesting, lots of interaction with other players, is severely deminished as FAR fewer people are playing this game so there is minimal interaction. Gone, it seems, are the 200+ member link groups and the support they offered.』

『Lose yourself inside the legendary Final Fantasy saga with this massive collection. The Final Fantasy XI: The Vana'diel Collection 2008 is a stunning assortment that includes the original Final Fantasy XI game, plus four expansion packs: Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan and Wings of the Goddess. Start with Final Fantasy XI, where you'll be able to assume the role of a variety of unique characters. Customize your character's appearance and decide which abilities you find most important. Then develop your in-game persona to become more effective in battle. In the four expansion packs you'll encounter new personalities, take on new jobs and explore new areas. As you continue to master weapons, skills and magics, you'll become a bigger part of this amazing world. In Chains of Promathia, learn more about the fabled God of Twilight as well as the Emptiness, a sinister force that is gnawing away at the world. In Rise of the Zilart, assume the role of Samurai, Ninja or Dragoon and trek through 40 new areas. In Treasures of Aht Urhgan, test your skill as a Blue Mage, Corsair or Puppetmaster, and embark on new missions that will reveal the secrets of this mysterious land. Wings of the Goddess takes you to Vana'diel's rewritten history, where you'll participate in three intense campaigns. In the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion pack, become a Blue Mage, Corsair or Puppetmaster, and explore 40 new areas』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(PC version is not up to par)
『Be careful if you decide to buy the PC version of this game. I've owned both this version and the playstation version. I can say with conviction that if you purchase the game for the PC, then you will likely be setting yourself up for frustration.
The first problem is that it will likely crash if you try to play this on a newer computer. You've also got to be aware that because this game was originally designed for the playstation, it generally won't run quite right on the computer. This means choppy or slow animation throughout the game (both cinematic and the gameplay portion). Sometimes the cinemas won't actually play, either.』

(Does not run on Windows Vista)
『If you have Windows Vista or later, this game is going to be extremely difficult to play. I recommend playing it on an older system. Eidos hasn't bothered with supporting this game anymore, and I cannot play it on my Vista PC.
If you have XP or earlier, there is support for it if you search online.

Should you be able to play this game, you will enjoy it tremendously. My whole family played the game on Playstation years ago, and we all loved it. It's a damn shame it doesn't play on Vista.

Good luck.

PS- The vendor I bought the game from sent brand new discs and I was very impressed with the purchase.
I just have to play it on an older PC.』

(Final Fantasy VII experienced)
『I had been looking for final fantasy VII for about 3 years.
Awesome game. A++』

(Legendary)
『This game is fantastic, and you wont be able to put it down for a long long time. I have over 120+ hours played on my game save. Final Fantasy VII Platinum Edition features a revamped old soundtrack...that I find 2x better than the PSone version's soundtrack. Although it takes a while to adjust to the numpad controls, after playing for a while, you'll wonder how you would have done it any other way. The on-screen controls are bizarre and during scenes such as the timed puzzle in the rocket ship, you'll have a hard time typing in key combos. Materia allows you to use different magics on different characters, allowing for different characters to use Summons, Magic, and Cure. My tip: dont give up solely because of the controls---this game is FANTASTIC and although I found the console experience more enthralling and easier to jump into, the PC version was much more cinematic and was totally worth it. FF7 is by far the best game I have ever played, and you do not want to miss out on this adventure. My only tip: dont save over the same file, especially before you enter the Northern Crater--you wont be able to exit it if you do.

Replayability: ***** (Tons of extra caves, quests, missions, mini-games to find, extra materia, weapons, limit-breaks, and bosses to fight well after the game is over.)
Gameplay: ***** (Amazing boss fights, you will be on the edge of your seat during battles, incredibly fun)
Story: ***** (The plot twists, the depth in the story, the emotions...its AMAZING)
Graphics: ***** (You can view on a big resolution, better textures and stuff. More crisp than the PSone version)
Controls: **** (Takes a while to get used to, you wont want to try another control setup once you do)
Sound: ***** (Sound effects are recycled from the PSone game, BUT, the music was totally redone, and that is one of the biggest parts of this game)
Addictiveness: ***** (I stopped playing my other games for almost 4 months when I got into this game)

The best part of this game is that it is so easy to pick up and play. The Ruby and Emerald Weapons provide you with more challenge than the last boss of the game. Raising chocobos and minigames at the Golden Saucer couldnt be more fun, and this remains the only game besides World of Warcraft that I havent uninstalled from my computer. Final Fantasy VII is a keeper, and dont be discouraged by the prices on Amazon, by the time you're done with the game, you will believe it to be the best $50 you have spent on a game. I would know, because I said the same thing.』

(Simply one of the best rpg ive ever played)
『well 1st let me say that this game has a very good replay value. ive played the psx ver of this game. and let me say getting the pc ver. is well worth getting.. say if your psx brakes (like mines did) you got the pc ver witch will last much longer.. (and you need no memory cards on top of that) but for a price.. its price is kinda high but its for a reason. replay value ;-)&depending on what ver. of the game you get.. as far as i know there 3 diffrent ver. of this game for the pc. 1st there's the original triangle box set thats made by eidos the usa ver. 2nd theres the eidos platinum ver. witch is usa&asia vers. and last theres the EA asia pacific ver. of ff7 (witch is the one i own and yes its in english) all game patchs&mods works for all vers. of this game so there no need for worries on that part. theres only 2 probs that this game does has. the music&the gfx (graphics) well let me start with the music. if you have the psx ver of this game the music is slightly beter then the pc ver. you can get a midi synthesizer like a Yamaha XG SoftSynthesizer S-YXG50 4.0 for download on google. or a diffrent midi synthesizer of your choice.. i wouldnt use the one that comes with the game sence its kinda old.. that will make it close to the psx ver. now for the graphics is tricky if you have a newer gfx card the res for the game will look pixeled. en older gfx gard will look better then the psx ver of the game.. all i have to say is that if you love the FF games this one in my opinion is the best one ever made. parts 8, 9 and 10 comes no way near to ff7 (same go's for parts 3, 4, 5, and 6 compared to part 2 for the snes ver.) buy this game at any cost. trust me youll love this game.......』
『This software is BRAND NEW. Packaging may differ slightly from the stock photo above. Please click on our logo above to see over 15,000 titles in stock.』
『The enormous Playstation console smash hitFinal Fantasy VIImakes a successful debut on the personal computer, converted beautifully by designers Squaresoft and Eidos Interactive. Gamers familiar with Squaresoft's popularFinal Fantasyseries should have little trouble grasping the seventh title's action-packed, role-playing game play. However,Final Fantasy VII's excellent documentation and intuitive controls ensure that beginners won't feel overwhelmed.

Players assume the role of Cloud Strife, a defector of Shinra, the evil corporation maintaining control over the planet. As the game opens, Cloud joins "Avalanche," a resistance group determined to foil the corporation's diabolical plans.Final Fantasy VIIfeatures an extremely complex story line, offering many hours of game play (over 60 minutes of impressive cinematic sequences are also included).

Final Fantasy VII's game play involves exploration, puzzle solving, and real-time combat. Players control Cloud during exploration and take on additional party members for battle sequences, which include both fantastic weaponry and dazzling spells. While the graphics are top-notch--and support 3-D hardware accelerators to sharpen the character models--the sound effects won't impress many; Squaresoft made little effort to utilize a personal computer's sophisticated sound card to its potential.

Although deeply rooted in the limitations of the Playstation console (limited menu system, weak music, no voice-overs),Final Fantasy VII's highly addictive, easy-to-learn game play should provide adventure and role-playing fans many hours of enjoyment. --Doug Radcliffe

(wrong one)
『for people who wants to get this sword you need to know this first.

when i ordered this sword they sent me the wrong sword instead of sending me the one in the description they sent me a wooden one that was no where near the one in the description.

this description:
440 stainless steel
leather seath
41 inches long

the one i got:
wooden
52 inches long
no seath

so if you want to get this sword you need to take a risk of getting a wooden one or a steel one im now trying to see if they will send me the steel one for the wooden one the sent me.』

(Great purchase!)
『This sword was of an amazing quality. Heavy, strong, and beautifully crafted. The fabric for the handle was soft enough that would chap the hands, but strong enough to grip both your and and the sword. It came with a sheath and a great display stand. It made a GREAT birthday present, and above all I would highly recommend some like this for any Bleach anime fan.』

(Nice)
『This sword went really well with my collection. It is really hard to find a sword like this for the price.』

(Distant Worlds)
『I follow FFDistantWorlds on twitter and found out about this great deal. I jumped on Amazon.com and bought it, and have not regrets whatsoever. This CD is amazing, I have been a fan of Final Fantasy for several years and this CD brings back memories of the first memories I have of Final Fantasy. If you are a fan of the series this is a must buy.』

(FREAKING AWESOME)
『The english female speaking voice that they use in one of the songs is absolutely delightful. The whole CD is a very nice translation of the final fantasy music world. I would highly recommend this CD and the final fantasy VOICES DVD.』

(A really wonderful collection)
『Having seem the orchestral show back in July, I immediately rushed out and picked this up. Needless to say it didn't dissapoint and brought back some great memories of that evening.Personally I don't really mind the song selection as I don't own any other Final Fantasy somg collections.
I find myself listening to the album quite frequently on my commute home and the sheer beauty of most of the tracks never fails to raise goosebumps or give me a lump in my throat.
Definately highly recomended. I only hope that with the addition of so many new pieces to the live concert that there's a Vol 2 in the works.』

(Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds)
『The music is fabulous! And some of the new arrangements are equally so. The only reason I didn't give this a five-star rating, is that it doesn't include all of the arrangements for the entire tour, and some of the arrangements are a throw-back to an album I've already bought (Aerith's Theme, One-Winged Angel, The Man With the Machine Gun, Liberi Fatali, and The FFVII Main Theme are all on the Final Fantasy S Generation Best Collection--as are some piano arrangements of Vamo' alla Flamenco, Fisherman's Horizon, and Eyes on Me). If you weren't able to catch the concert (I was lucky enough to snag a ticket, and I live in Dallas), then by all means buy this. However, you might want to hold out and see if they release a special version after the tour is over that has more music (each concert for each venue had a slightly different playlist). It's a stretch, but it could happen. It's still very nice if you don't have any of the soundtracks lying around like I do. ^_^』

(Distant Worlds was a wonderful concert with a wonderful album that needs a second part)
『This album is comprised of wonderful recordings from the Distant Worlds concert arrangements for Nobuo Uematsu's Final Fantasy compositions. All pieces on this soundtrack are excellent. However, not all of the compositions used in the Distant Worlds tour are found on this album so I think that they need to release a second album eventually. It's one of my favorite Final Fantasy albums as none of the music is synthesized so it sounds great with my headphones. Moreover, I bought two copies and had one of them signed by Mr. Nobuo Uematsu and Mr. Arnie Roth so it added extra nostalgia value to the album for me.』
『The release of Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY CD coincides with the start of the world-tour on December 4, 2007 in Sweden. Recorded by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the choir Allmänna Sången, produced and conducted by Arnie Roth. All music composed by Nobuo Uematsu. 1) Opening - Bombing Mission (FINAL FANTASY VII)2) Liberi Fatali (FINAL FANTASY VIII) 3) Aerith's Theme (FINAL FANTASY VII) 4) Fisherman's Horizon (FINAL FANTASY VIII) 5) Don't be Afraid (FINAL FANTASY VIII) 6) Memoro de la Stono - Distant Worlds (FINAL FANTASY XI) 7) Medley 2002 (FINAL FANTASY I-III) 8) Theme of Love (FINAL FANTASY IV) 9) Vamo' alla Flamenco (FINAL FANTASY IX)10) Love Grows (FINAL FANTASY VIII) 11) Opera "Maria and Draco" (FINAL FANTASY VI) 12) Swing de Chocobo (FINAL FANTASY series) 13) One-Winged Angel (FINAL FANTASY VII)』

(Well worth the wait)
『Ordered this CD several months ago and I had to wait for it to be in stock for it to be shipped but it was well worth the wait. As a Final Fantasy VII fan, especially for the movie, this was a must have for me. The remix version of One Winged Angel was incredible but the two Destiny tracks as well as the Promised land were amazing as well. Its very easy to relive the movie through this CD.

If anyone reading this is a Final Fantasy fan or just loves great music, GET THIS CD!!! You will not be disappointed.』

(Fantastic Soundtrack for Final Fantasy Fans)
『This soundtrack was the very first of the Final Fantasy soundtracks I have listened to. Although I was hoping for more of a classical sound this soundtrack got me into listening to more stuff from the series. I played Final Fantasy 7 about ten or so years ago and never thought about finding the soundtrack. I recently watched Advent Children and it reminded me of how great the music was and is. The music for the movie is more upbeat and the new version of One Winged Angel has a lot of energy to it but fits the movie perfectly at the scene when its played. I have had this soundtrack for about a year or so and I still have my favorites off of it. The composer is very talented and his work is always good and I find myself looking for more of his stuff. This is a great soundtrack for fans of Final Fantasy and is far by one of my favorites of all time from the series. I don't know how people who aren't fans will like the soundtrack but overall its fantastic for those of us who love the series.』

(I absolutely love it!!!!!)
『An absolute must have!!!! Another reviewer was better than accurate when saying you can play this soundtrack, close your eyes and actually visualize Advent Children. it is unbeievable. I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!』

(A PHENOMENAL SOUNDTRACK 9.75 OUT OF 10)
『The movie was absolutely amazing, and this soundtrack proves to be no different. The musical compositions you loved about the movie are all here in this soundtrack. It feels like a mix of an orchestral scores and rock music. The music you loved from the Playstation game is here, but vastly improved. The music was done by Nobuo Uematsu; the guy who did the music for many Final Fantasy titles, the Chrono series, Blue Dragon, and Lost Odyssey so you know it's going to be damn good. The music compositions can be very beautiful and melodic, and then simultaneously change to a great hard rock type of music without ruining the overall feel to it. The music can be very soft, very loud, very fast, and its just flatout awesome as any soundtrack should be. This music has a very high quality to it, to the point of where it could be done for a big-budget Hollywood movie it's so damn good. But I think its rightful place is in games. I can't help but question how Square Enix is making quality music for its game without Nobuo Uematsu, because he left the company with the creator of Final Fantasy and the Chrono series. If you dislike most soundtracks to movies this one will definitely change your mind when you listen to it because it's fantastic. Hell, I've even burned the entire soundtrack onto my Xbox 360 it's so good.』

(Can't get any better than FFVII ADVENT CHILDREN)
『This is an amazing product. The tracks were just what I was looking for. It is simply amazing; I cannot stop listening to it.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(Race to Old New York)
『-I'm not big on RPG's so I don't know much about the "Final Fantasy" games, but I do hear that the scores are largely excellent so I was a bit surprised when the game composer wasn't used and the great Elliot Goldenthal was brought in instead. Unlike the movie which is a beautiful disappointment, the score is fantastic and definitely one of the best from this very underrated composer that does not get the respect he deserves.

-The best piece of music on the album and one of the best musical cues I've heard in my life is "Race to Old New York" which starts off with this fast moving strings that plays this simple melody, then shortly after the brass comes in and picks up the melody which keeps going to the short cue comes to it's natural resolution. I don't seem to remember hearing that cue in the movie which was a shame because it's so wonderful.

-Other tracks that should make glad that you have ears are "The Phantom Plains", "Dead Rain", "Code Red", "Music for Dialogues", "Winged Serpent", "Zeus Cannon", and "Adagio and Transfiguration". I love how he blends the techno stuff with the orchestral elements in "Dead Rain" and "Winged Serpent" is just creepy as hell. "Zeus Cannon" is a majestic piece that sounds like the music that should accompany a Greek god. "Music for Dialogues" is a great piece that should be familiar territory for all Goldenthal fans.

-There is an isolated track on the DVD which is great, but Goldenthal seems to have the same problem that great composer Marco Beltrami has, which is to talk over the music. Most of the cues he does talk over are on the album so it's not that big of a problem, although I do wish he would have actually talked for the scenes when there was no music. 10 minutes would pass by and we won't hear a peep from him, but he is a brilliant composer so I guess we can forgive his lack of great DVD commentaries.

-Even if you find the movie to be a little disappointing, the score should keep you interested. It's fresh, it's great and gives birth to "Race to Old New York" which should be included in any filmmusic geek's top 50 of great musical cues of all time

(Masterpiece.)
『I cannot express how finely crafted this score is. Goldenthal is one of my favorite composers (not just for film) and this is definitely one of his highlights. I believe that where this score really shines is Elliot's way of making really simple musical ideas sound extremely intense and grand. For example, Race to Old New York, one of my favorite cues, has an extremely powerful opening that is nothing but a string ensemble racing up and down a g minor chord. Yet it instantly exposes many raw emotions that other composers would need a few movements of a symphony to convey. Most of Goldenthal's trademarks can be found in this score. Horn tone clusters, near-atonal trills on brass, and HUGE, no, EPIC orchestrations that we fell in love with in Titus. The glass harmonica (and the way Elliot employs it) found its way into this film from the score for Interview with the Vampire. I could go on, but I won't. This is a remarkable CD by one of the best living composers (now that Ligeti is no longer with us).』

(Fantastic!)
『This has to be Goldenthal's best score to date! It's an orchestral masterpiece performed by none other than the London Symphony Orchestra.

Let me explain a few awesome tracks before giving the downside to this release.

The album opens with ambient noise and dark choir, much like Horner's Aliens. The second track, "Race to Old New York", doesn't appear on the film, or as this cue version does on the album. It's played by racing strings and low brass. Very good track and one of my favorites.

"The Kiss" proves to Hollywood and Goldenthal skeptics that he is able to pull of romantic, soothing themes. "The Kiss" is a romantic theme played by piano with some strings.

"Toccata and Dreamscapes" is the longest and most difficult track to perform. Goldenthal employs 40 French horns (!) to blast, grunt and shrill away every once in a while during the percussion and interrupted string action. One of the best tracks!

"Adagio and Transfiguration" closes the score album with a sad, sweeping reprise of the romantic theme and finishes on a solo trumpet.

Between all of these reviewed tracks are mixtures of sweeping cues, rolling strings, tense moments and dark choir. All this makes for a very diverse range of music on about 50 minutes of score for this release.

The album ends with two songs. Lara Fabian's rendition of the love theme in pop form is nice but is ruined by the last song on the album not worth mentioning. The rock song ruins the entire listening experience.

The Complaints:
One I've already mentioned: the stupid rock song at the end of the CD; two, the music is not in chronological order, but I guess it makes for a better listening experience; and three, much good music is missing! "Dead Rain" is almost 8 minutes long on the film and we only get about 2 minutes on the album cut. The good thing about the special edition DVD is that we get the option of an isolated track and commentary by Elliot Goldenthal. Goldenthal is smart leaving the music cues that didn't appear on the album uncommented.

Get this soundtrack and the special edition DVD. They're worth every penny!』

("Where's my second disc?" (sarcasm))
『If you've seen Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within DVD, you've probably listened to the isolated score with commentary by Elliot Goldenthal, during which you will notice that he talks over certain bits of score but leaves other chunks of score alone, un-interrupted.

It more or less translates to this: The sections of score he talks over seem to all be here on the soundtrack and well covered. The several chunks of score he doesn't talk over some over eight minutes in length: completely axed and not used for this soundtrack.

"Dead Rain" is missing about seven minutes of great scoring which blend into it seemlessly in the film. Why do those responsible for cutting the score for a film's soundtrack axe some of the better parts (in my mind) in exchange for one or two tracks that don't seem to tell as much of a story? I've experienced this with so many scores I've bought. Exceptional pieces used in films getting axed.. and for what? The expense of a second disc? I'd gladly pay for a second disc or for a third folks. I really would, especially with scores like this.

Which is why I'm giving this soundtrack 3 stars. Not because the music sucks, it's great and I enjoyed every minute of it. Just remember to own the film on DVD as well as this soundtrack so you can get a little extra from Elliot.』

(Goldenthal at his peak performance)
『Elliot Goldenthal wrote a grand, majestic score for the computer-animated science-fiction spectacle "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within." The music bursts with roaring brass under climactic string arpeggios, carrying the listener high on a violent tidal wave, when suddenly the wave is broken and settles down with a soft female voice humming over an elusive and beautiful melody played on the piano. There's a sparse use of the synthesizer, apart from some choir effects in the background and echoing ambient sounds. The accent is very much on music played by a big orchestra.
This film doubtlessly features one of Goldenthal's best film scores. It's rich and inspired in every scene and every take. It keeps your attention, down to the last minute on the album. The music for the dream sequences is the most complex and grand, with a complex combination of percussion, string arpeggios and brass - often culminating like a thunderstorm, but always leaving a calm resuscitation behind. Buy this if you like modern, complex, grand music and lush sweeping "dreamscape" music.

This one gets 4 stars.』

『This film adaptation of the popular video game series attempts a technological breakthrough: computer-generated, photo-realistic renditions of human characters. But while critics and audiences gave mixed marks to game creator and film producer-director Hironobu Sakaguchi's ambitious technical efforts, it was ironically the film's most obviously human elements--its veteran actors' voice performances and, crucially, the masterful score by Elliot Goldenthal--that really brought it to life. Goldenthal's work is a sweeping orchestral masterpiece that covers vast musical territory, from the action-adventure of Korngold to the fantasy strains of Herrmann, florid Russian romanticism to touches of late-20th-century modernism. With the London Symphony in full voice and then some, Goldenthal's music is treated to a performance of rare dynamic range and dramatic power; the edgy, modern brass flourishes and thunderous percussion of "Toccata and Dreamscapes" alone may have listeners groping for their seatbelts. The album also features a pair of obligatory pop tracks, Lara Fabian's "The Dream Within" (which makes good use of Goldenthal's romantic themes) and L'Arc-en-Ciel's "Spirit Dreams Inside" (which doesn't).--Jerry McCulley

(Not The Best But....)
『I always wondered what they would come out with after the Voyage Home and I wasn't too surprised by what came up. Some of the insight into the main characters backgrounds was nice but the movie really just didn't make it. I liked OK, but not one of the best Star Treks.』

(Why does Amazon.com put all these positive reviews on here?)
『This movie was considered by most people to be horrible.
Why does Amazon.com put these fanboys reviews over even serious critics
Ebert, denounced it as the worst. So somebody will buy this B-movie?

(Give it a break!)
『I've read a lot of criticizm toward this movie on here. It's not THAT bad! Come on, it's got action, philosophy and comedy, the ingredients to a proper Star Trek movie! No it wasn't the best. Yes the plot was a bit weak, but I personally think it was a half-decent movie. The effects are decent for the time it was made, the acting was good, maybe could have been a bit better. I suppose the plot could have been used in a one-hour episode rather than a movie, but I think that everyone would agree with me when I say that this movie is NOT the worst compared to The Motion Picture, which is the only Star Trek movie I don't like because NOTHING happens in it! In this one they fight Spock's long lost half brother and find an evil alien claiming to be God (and the part where Spock gives the neck-pinch to a horse is priceless). In the Motion Picture, what did they do? Fly through a cloud. Oooooh, how exciting!

No, it's not the best Star Trek movie out there, but I say it was a fun, entertaining installment to the adventure.』

(It wasn't HORRIBLE)
『In my quest to view all the Star Trek movies, I had the somewhat misfortune of seeing them in this order: First Contact, Insurrection, Nemesis, The Voyage Home, Star Trek (2009), The Voyage Home (in full this time), Wrath of Khan

So then I restarted again with the first to last.

What was so horrible about "The Final Frontier"?

Standing on its own, I thought it was a pleasant enough movie, but it suffered from a severe lack of real drama. It seemed like there was no real immediate danger for some of the film, and then Sybock comes and starts using some sort of mystic powers to "brainwash" people to his cause, including members of the Enterprise crew.

Probably the only high point of the film involved him showing the greatest fears to Spock and McCoy, and in particular, the one involving Spock was disgustingly brutal, and treated properly as such.

But where was the rest of this movie? Kirk, Spock, and McCoy resist Sybock's manipulation, but go along with him to the center of the galaxy (what?) to some barrier where supposedly the center of all the major species' religions lie (I'm not naming the garbled fake names of the others, but the humans call it Eden) to find GOD HIMSELF!

Right away this flies in the face of about 1/3 of the Star Trek episodes in SEASON ONE ALONE of the Original Series.

How many times have the crew of the Enterprise encountered some godlike creature that could easily be considered any God, or even THE God worshipped by the Christians, Jews, Muslims, only to discover it's just a hyper-advanced alien creature of some sort or another?

I can name so many of them, Trelane, the things whose names I forgot that brought Kirk and the Gorn captain to fight, Charlie Evans and his overseers, the beings from that planet that Kirk and Spock were stranded on when the Klingons occupied it, the Archons, the Gatekeeper, etcetera.

And so just because it's this time around, they think it really could be God?

To be fair, it would seem that Kirk and Spock and McCoy are probably fully aware of the fact that there is a 99% chance it's NOT God, which is only confirmed by the being's not only failure to answer, but even necessitating the question be asked repeatedly by Kirk

"What does God need with a spaceship?"

But in the end, there's no big conflict, no big stand-off or showdown or great philosophical debate of profound proportions, Sybock is vindicated of being a villain, and is immediately removed from the picture as no longer essential to the film's momentum.

And then that's it. Every instance that there may be a conflict, either physically or verbally, either turns out to be a red herring or a SHOCKING SWERVE! revealing it to be something less than it could have been.

And that's really what this movie is. Less than it could have been. But that's not the fault of the actors or the director or anyone---it's a fault of the script. The movie's overall plot is one that could and should be a 50 minute rapid-paced single episode rather than a feature length movie.』

(Heading Off to Eden? Oh Brother!)
『Shatner co-wrote the story and directed Star Trek V, which changes a lot of what we fans know of Trek and is very derivative of earlier episodes without the humor and grace of what we expect.

As in the Eden episode from the Sixties, an alien takes over the Enterprise and forces the crew to go to a planet that most say contains God. OK, not bad, except the alien is Spock's brother! Say what? And he laughs out loud and belongs to a faction of Vulcans that have emotion.

After this film, I don't think any writer has referred to this faction, nor to Spock having a brother, ever again. And with good reason. Just does not play as good Trek.

Yeah, there are some interesting moments like Kirk climbing El Capitan and almost dying in a fall and teaching Spock campfire songs, but the overall film does not have the passion and the grace of the earlier films.

The desert scenes seemed fake and the dancing/prancing Uhura was done over by another actress! Nichelle Nichols is an accomplished singer/dancer, yet this was not to be.

However, decent music by Jerry Goldsmith! The weakest of the Original Trek films.

『Movie critic Roger Ebert summed it up very succinctly: "Of all of theStar Trekmovies, this is the worst." Subsequent films in the popular series have done nothing to disprove this opinion; we can be grateful that they've all been significantly better since this film was released in 1989. After Leonard Nimoy scored hits withStar Trek IIIandIV, William Shatner used his contractual clout (and bruised ego) to assume directorial duties on this mission, in which a rebellious Vulcan (Laurence Luckinbill) kidnaps Federation officials in his overzealous quest for the supreme source of creation. That's right, you heard it correctly:Star Trek Vis about a crazy Vulcan's search for God. By the time Kirk, Spock, and their Federation cohorts are taken to the Great Barrier of the galaxy, this journey to "the final future" has gone from an embarrassing prologue to an absurd conclusion, with a lot of creaky plotting in between. Of course, die-hard Trekkies will still allow this movie into their video collections; but they'll only watch it when nobody else is looking. After this humbling experience, Shatner wisely relinquished the director's chair toStar Trek II's Nicholas Meyer.--Jeff Shannon

(Cropped version!)
『It doesn't seem so long ago that when movies on VHS were cropped on the left and right to fit 4:3 screens, people were indignant over losing a third or more of the original image. Producers responded with letterbox format, which then consisted of adding black bars at the top and bottom to preserve the entire original image.

Now for DVD release, older TV shows are cropped at the top and bottom so the original 4:3 image will fit 16:9 screens. Sometimes they now call this letterboxing! Where is the indignation? Why are there so many five-star ratings on Amazon for the V miniseries without mention of how the image was mutilated?

In fact when the first season of Route 66 was released with the top and bottom cropped, there was much indignation, and the producers responded by re-releasing the season in its original format.

I hope fans of V and other great shows will think about this when posting reviews and ratings. The more people give these versions low ratings and state why, the more likely that producers will do the right thing and stop cropping these shows.』

『this DVD brought back so many memories for me! i remember watching the original mini-series and tv show back in the 80s and being obsessed with them. i remembered so many details while watching these DVDs, it was like i had just seen the episodes a few weeks ago - not 25 years ago!

a MUST BUY for anyone who was a fan of tv in the 80s. :)』

『I love the series, but there is nothing final in this battle. You still have to purchase yet another video to make the series end. I did not like how the case is cupboard and not plastic like the rest of the normal dvd movies.』

(V _ Final Battle)
『Fun jolt to the past. The 80's version of high tech is sure to give you a chuckle. Great and memorable characters including the creepy Robert Englund as a goofy lovable alien. The plots are predictable but still fun to watch. The lingo and wardrobe is definitely 80's. The cast is huge so you are almost guaranteed to find a favorite.
With the new series getting made now is a great time to get re-familiar with the show.』

(Once you walk out that door, there's no turning back.)
『In "V: The Miniseries" we see a band of unlikely brothers forge together to stop an indestructible group of aliens determined to rid the world of water and subsequently transform the human race into a combo meal at McDonald's. The aliens eat fuzzy creatures, they like to copulate with humans, and their voices cannot be trusted, yet this group of rebels continues forward. Half homage to past science fiction films, and half an allegory of the events surrounding WWII, "V: The Miniseries" wasn't perfect, but it provided hours of nostalgic entertainment. Now, with "V: The Final Battle", the gloves are thrown off, the symbolic references are destroyed, and the game is transformed into merely a battle between human and alien. It is about resistance, standing up for beliefs, and plenty of fictitious science all rolled into three hours. Our band of outsiders is down, but not finished. They deliver several swift blows to the alien objective and finally one "final battle" that leaves doors unopened and plot holes uncovered. "V: The Final Battle" was a swift ending, but where it built onto action, it lacked that panache that the original episodes did. "The Final Battle" assumed that characters were already developed, and instead of taking a humanistic direction, director Richard Heffron placed his bets on the special effects. This was a completely different ending to a decently sharp beginning.

Heffron isn't Kenneth Johnson, and it is obvious that this is a second part to an idea, not a continuation. Not only have the overall themes changed, but the influx of special effects has lead us down the path of horrid dialogue, randomly placed action scenes (i.e. the fistfight over the powder), and the lack of developed storylines. Johnson may have taken longer to get to the point, but at least there was a point. Heffron went in a completely, some may say bold, direction - but it didn't work. Investing over five hours, one could easily demand a conclusion, but none could be found here. The introduction of Elizabeth (the child of an alien and human) was exciting, but nothing happened. The idea of quick growth was introduced, but then easily forgotten - same as Mike's son being changed as a spy. Again, another strong and vexing idea that was mentioned, and then forgotten. It was these smaller nuances that seemed to be clearer in "The Final Battle" than in the original.

In addition to the lackluster plot, the acting seemed to be progressively getting worse. Our original characters were not the same as in this final set - the excitement seemed to have dissipated and with too many small story arch's never being fully developed, it was no wonder our characters seemed to be lacking that pioneering gumption. Marc Singer's Mike was more a meathead than a leader, the annoying child who gave birth to the spawn seemed more annoying than helpful - and Ham seemed to be unreasonably angrier. This wasn't the same set we stopped with on the miniseries. The resistance was going to win; it was inevitable, so why did it have to be so mismatched to get there.

What was kept? What worked? It was somewhat like that feeling of seeing "Star Wars" for the first time. When the villains finally get it, one cannot help but feel that moment of excitement swell in the throat, but there needed to be more. The alien baby is worth the price of the DVD alone, a cross between originality and a "Ghoulie", it provided at least an hour of laughter. The fist fight between Ham and Mike seemed reminiscent of the film "They Live", so it received some points for that, but overall it just felt cheap. The sets were bigger, the acting was weaker, and the money was tighter. While you should watch this after "The Miniseries", don't expect the same quality.

Grade: **½ out of *****

『Though followers of current science fiction television series may dismissV: The Final Battleas a quaint relic from the pre-computer animation days, the six-hour miniseries about an alien invasion of Earth was a ratings juggernaut for NBC in 1984 and should still provide some entertainment for hard-bitten devotees and fans of '50s-style sci-fi.The Final Battlepicks up four months after the shock conclusion of the 1983 prequel miniseries, with a small group of humans known as the Resistance struggling to convince their fellow humans that a fleet of seemingly friendly visitors from space are in fact bent on world domination.

Executive producer Kenneth Johnson (who oversaw most aspects of the first series) only supervised the sequel's script (which underwent several changes before its airing), and the writing occasionally suffers due to the lack of his attention. But the series still delivers its share of action and intrigue, as well as one showstopping gruesome moment involving the birth of interspecies twins. Acting is again a stumbling block, with leads Marc Singer and Faye Grant as bland as any performers from the American International Pictures stable; character actor Michael Ironside makes the strongest impression as a tough Resistance member, and a pre-Freddy Krueger Robert Englund is amusing asa kind-hearted alien. The miniseries was followed by an inevitable weekly series featuring most of the same cast, which was demolished in the ratings byDallas, but a faithful Resistance-like following remains to this day.--Paul Gaita

(So far, so OK)
『I just got this and haven't finished ST 1 yet but this is what I have noticed. Some scenes look great while others not so great. In the beginning where the Enterprise is leaving spacedock there are a few big black spots that appear on the enterprise and I mean BIG. I can't beleive that these were allowed in the transfer. Also, when the Entperise has entered V'Ger and Kirk tells Sulu to take them 500 meters above and 200 meters out there are three smaller black spots on all the outside shots of the enterprise in the scene. When they go to interior shots they look ok. The other thing I have noticed is that when a character is the main focus visually for a scene, almost everything outside of the focus is highly blurry. Not sure if this is the same on the VHS and DVD releases. I'm gonna check this but it is kind of annoying.

As for the movie itself, by not including a lot of the extra scenes the movie seems to jump and not make sense at some points. Also, the deleted scenes are included as extras but not all the extra scenes from the directors cut made it to the deleted scenes section.

Once I see more, I'll review more.』

(Great movies with great bonus features)
『I'm just now upgrading to the big flat panel TV and blu-ray player. And I'm using this box set to introduce a new generation to the original Kirk and Spock (now that they've been hooked by the JJ Abrams version). I haven't watched all the discs in the set yet, but those I've used play great on my Samsung blu-ray player. How can you beat watching the famous Kirk line, "Get ready Kahn... Here it comes!" in high quality on a big screen at home?

I've also enjoyed the bonus features on these discs. It's fun to watch cast interviews and learn behind-the-scenes facts about the production. I wish I had time to go through them all.

(Great box set)
『Just a few words: a must for all trekkies! Great picture quality and pretty good sound. Long live the original series!

(OK, we all love these films, with all their flaws, but could this release have been better? A big YES!)
『All of the films should have been expertly restored, possibly with some special effects re-created (to look just like the original only with flaws fixed, see some of the technical issues others reviewers have pointed out), visible make-up could possibly be improved with colour alteration on selected scenes, and much more. The bottom line is Paramount just don't want to spend the money required to do this, so that they can maximise their profits. Just take a look at the excellent restoration job done on Blade Runner, Original film cleaned, scanned at highest possible resolution, each scene carefully looked at and restored, for example one shots shows a hovering police car that previously you could see the wires supporting it, now carefully painted out. Had the same care and attention (and money) been spent on restoring each of the Star Trek films, they would no doubt look a lot better. At least KHAN was restored, but not to the same degree that Blade Runner was.

The Studio may do a restoration at a later date so they can sell it to us all again. Look at the way Paramount has consistantly milked fans of their money with so many different releases of the Star Trek Series and Films, what a contrast to Star Wars, yes there have been a few versions over the years as improvements were made, but on DVD, basically one quality release of each film with plenty of extras at a fair price. Respect to George Lucas for not over milking us of our money. Shame on you Paramount, you are charging enough for the Blu-Rays and you have made huge profits from Star Trek over the years, give a little back by spending the required ammount to do the best possible restorations, you owe it to the film makers and the fans!

『The Return of the King arrived in perfect condition, exactly as described. It was shipped from Canada but it was no different from the American version, except for one insert. I did not mind this. I would recommend using this seller. The ship time was pretty fast.』

(One Ring To Bring Them All And In The Darkness Bind Them)
『So here it is, the crown jewel of the three films. While the third film was already a tiring (for some) 3 hour 20 minute venture, this extended edition of 50 new minutes of footage extends it to an impressive 4 hours and 10 minutes. Again the cast delivers and thanks to this extended version, Christopher Lee and the actors who played the Witch King and Mouth of Sauron (its been awhile since I've watched the documentaries); as I was anticipating to find out what happened to Saruman )Christopher Lee being one of my favorite actors) and was expecting a little more from the Witch King, how threatening Gandalf made him feel then all we see of him is in the big battle, fight Mirando Otto and then get defeated. I find it hard to critique this one as I find no faults with it at all, until we get to the end, where it does drag a little but that's an otherwise small complaint for an otherwise flawless film. Action sequences are the best of the three; the Battle of Pelennor Fields being the highlight and Sam's moment of fighting Shelob as a brilliant moment of the character showing his loyalty to his friend. Howard Shore again provides an excellent score and Into The West is a great, melancholy song to end the trilogy.』

(Lord Of The Rings (Platinum Extended series))
『All I can say is Great! Great! Great!
We especially love the actor interviews.』

(AWESOME!)

It's a wonderful thing that the makers of this DVD decided to trust the public and incorporate the "deleted scenes" into the movie, where they belong. It's also very fine that they chose to add so many scenes that help us know and understand the characters and the depth of the story, instead of just more action scenes. Not that I don't like the action, but this is a story of great human interest, of courage, compassion, amazing strength of character. This comes through with much greater impact than in the "cinema" version. The relationships between the characters are much more filled out and their depth is easier to comprehend. The trust they have in each other and the support they give one another is more representative of what is found in the books. I'm glad they did these extended versions, and I appreciate their length. After all, if you need a bathroom break, there is always a pause button.

(Stellar service from sender, steller product.)
『The product was in TIP-TOP shape. NEVER before opened, everything was brand-spankin'-new, no dings, no corners bent and the extended edition of this film is the ONLY way to see this movie. There's a Blu-Ray edition coming out of these movies&I knew that before purchasing this Extended edition of the 3rd installment of the series. However, the blu-rays are the theatrical releases only&the extended edition blu-ray comes out way later, so I opted to purchase this in DVD. This Extended Edition is more thrilling, 50 minutes (almost an entire HOUR)of extra film added to the viewing experience seamlessly integrated into the whole film.....a gazillion hours of extras-bonuses-goodies. An Extended Edition on DVD is far superior than a stinkin' Blu-Ray THEATRICAL release, hands down. Get this extended on DVD to hold you over 'til Blu-Ray Extended Edition packaged with better stuff, then it'll be PERFECT. If you play the DVD on a Blu-Ray anyway...like my PS3...the quality of the DVD gets upscaled, so you're still getting a win-win deal. Trust me...don't think...just buy this. End of story!

『IN THE FINAL FILM OF THE TRILOGY, FRODO MAKES HIS WAY THROUGH THE DARKNESS TO MOUNT DOOM TO DESTROY THE ONE RING, WHOLE ARAGON LEARNS OF HIS DESTINY&THE OTHERS PREPARE FOR A BATTLE THAT WILL DECIDE THE FATE OF ALL.』
『WithThe Return of the King, the greatest fantasy epic in film history draws to a grand and glorious conclusion. Director Peter Jackson's awe-inspiring adaptation of the Tolkien classicThe Lord of the Ringscould never fully satisfy those who remain exclusively loyal to Tolkien's expansive literature, but as a showcase for physical and technical craftsmanship it is unsurpassed in pure scale and ambition, setting milestone after cinematic milestone as the brave yet charmingly innocent Hobbit Frodo (Elijah Wood) continues his mission to Mordor, where he is destined to destroy the soul-corrupting One Ring of Power in the molten lava of Mount Doom. While the heir to the kingdom of Men, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), endures the massive battle at Minas Tirith with the allegiance of the elf Legolas (Orlando Bloom), dwarf Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) and the great wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Frodo and stalwart companion Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin) must survive the schizoid deceptions of Gollum, who remains utterly convincing as a hybrid of performance (by Andy Serkis) and subtly nuanced computer animation.

Jackson and cowriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens have much ground to cover; that they do so with intense pacing and epic sweep is impressive enough, but by investing greater depth and consequence in the actions of fellow Hobbits Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd), they ensure thatReturn of the Kingmaintains the trilogy's emphasis on intimate fellowship. While several major characters appear only briefly, and one (Christopher Lee's evil wizard, Saruman) relegated entirely to the extended version on DVD, Jackson is to be commended for his editorial acumen; like Legolas the archer, his aim as a filmmaker is consistently true, and he remains faithful to Tolkien's overall vision. IfReturnsuffers from too many endings, as some critic suggested, it's only because the epic's conclusion is so loyally inclusive of the actors--most notably Astin--who gave it such strength to begin with. By ending theLOTRtrilogy with noble integrity and faith in the power of imaginative storytelling,The Return of the King, like its predecessors, will stand as an adventure for the ages.--Jeff Shannon

(Too much!)
『Jordan did, and Sanderson does, suffer from redundancy. At least I enjoyed Jordan's style even though I had to skim a lot in the last few books. Sanderson's style is also superfluous, boring, repetitive.... (careful, redundancy may be contagious). It's hard to care about these characters anymore because this has been so disappointing. I'm done with this series. Try Patricia McKillip, Greg Keyes, or Guy Gavriel-Kay for some great reads.』

(At Last We're Out Of Soap Opera Mode!)
『It's about time we got out of the boring soap opera. Back and forth and not really going anywhere. But, now it's all action. Sure you go here and you go there, but it's all action. I tell you, I was about to give up reading this series, but now I couldn't put the book down. It feels like it did when I first started this series. Hurry up with the next one.』

(A Solid Effort (but it's not quite the same))
『We're getting there. Tarmon Gai'don looms close, and the Wheel of Time series has reached the beginning of the end. Of course, there are no beginnings to the Wheel of Time... The biggest issue with The Gathering Storm is, of course, the untimely death of the series' author, Robert Jordan. I'll be blunt. It stinks that Mr. Jordan is dead. For those of us who have been with him since book one, we'll never know how the series would have turned out had he wrote it from start to finish. Instead, Tor has brought in author Brandon Sanderson to finish the series with the help of Mr. Jordan's notes and some half-finished writing.

The result is, predictably, a mixed bag. It's a surprisingly good mixed bag though. Jordan and Sanderson do a good job getting the series back on track after a lot of meandering done in previous books. The end is near, and loads of plots and sub-plots get tied up this time around. Unfortunately, some are more interesting than others. It was also pretty clear to me which chapters Sanderson wrote, and which ones Jordan managed to get down before he died. That isn't a bad thing, and style is always going to be a matter of taste. Sanderson seems to do politics very well. Egwene's quest to reunite the White Tower gets a lot of time in The Gathering Storm, and Sanderson sails her through in fine form. He also does well with Rand, and the disturbing change in the Dragon Reborn's personality. Jordan set this up in previous books, but I love where it's heading. Rand's confrontation with Grendael was a high point of the book for me. In fact, Sanderson offers up some interesting observations of the nature of the Forsaken that I enjoyed. Cadsuane is a bit less annoying this time around. So is Nynaeve and her braid.

Not every character comes off so well, however. Brandon Sanderson has just as much trouble as Jordan did making Perrin's adventures very interesting. He's wasted here-he doesn't want to be a noble, he wishes everyone would stop calling him Lord Perrin, and he can't quite understand his wife. So it's pretty much Perrin from the last 5 books without much new going on. The real disappointment for me was the Matt and Tuon chapters. Maybe it's because Matt has always been my favorite character, but Sanderson's (and it very much feels like he wrote these entire chapters) portrayal feels off the entire time. Matt's phrasing, his internal monologue, his Matt-ness all seem muted and/or absent. His chapters are kind of a mess, and not much of interest happens. Jordan got Matt Cauthon, I'm not sure Sanderson does. Even the dice in Matt's head, harbingers of a forthcoming dramatic event, seem ordinary and unexciting in The Gathering Storm. Tuon also suffers from the same fate. The complicated hierarchical nature of the Seachan Empire is fun to read about, but this time around Sanderson makes them feel like just another bunch of nobles. Yawn.

Given the nature of how this book was written, I'm trying not to be overly-picky. Sanderson did a great job with what Jordan left for him, and I'm hoping he finds the voice for my favorite characters before the series ends. He does a good job here of getting us closer to that end, and loads of supporting characters are killed off, or have their plots resolved. I'm eager to see where we go from here, and I'll be very much looking forward to the next book.

(A triumphant return to the series (with a hint of shame))
『Does anyone else feel a bit of shame for saying this? This book made me love the series all over again because the last few novels were absolute dreck and to say so in some ways is a maligning of the dearly departed?

I was ready to give up on this series. While the first few novels changed the way I looked at fantasy fiction, the store become unmanageable. The number of diverging storylines became so large I couldn't remember who the characters were nor what they were doing when the story returned to that thread? it go to the point where i just didn't care anymore.

Sanderson corrects this and while Perrin's story is touched on for only the briefest of moments, the remaining threads had enough closure and repetition that you actually understood what was going on and more importantly had a sense of movement. Finally!

It may be that the joy I have in this book is a bit tainted as I feel I am in some ways glad that the reigns for this incredible piece of literature is under new hands?

(Very Simply)
『I will do for you what many others did not. I will sum this book up succinctly:

It made me love the whole series again.

It filled holes. It moved just quickly enough. It had a sense of purpose. It made me read and re-read.

I don't care whose voice told this story, it was very simply magnificent.』

Tarmon Gai’don, the Last Battle, looms. And mankind is not ready.

The final volume of the Wheel of Time,A Memory of Light, was partially written by Robert Jordan before his untimely passing in 2007. Brandon Sanderson,New York Timesbestselling author of the Mistborn books, was chosen by Jordan’s editor---his wife, Harriet McDougal---to complete the final book. The scope and size of the volume was such that it could not be contained in a single book, and so Tor proudly presentsThe Gathering Stormas the first of three novels that will make upA Memory of Light. This short sequence will complete the struggle against the Shadow, bringing to a close a journey begun almost twenty years ago and marking the conclusion of the Wheel of Time, the preeminent fantasy epic of our era.

In this epic novel, Robert Jordan’s international bestselling series begins its dramatic conclusion. Rand al’Thor, the Dragon Reborn, struggles to unite a fractured network of kingdoms and alliances in preparation for the Last Battle. As he attempts to halt the Seanchan encroachment northward---wishing he could form at least a temporary truce with the invaders---his allies watch in terror the shadow that seems to be growing within the heart of the Dragon Reborn himself.

Egwene al’Vere, the Amyrlin Seat of the rebel Aes Sedai, is a captive of the White Tower and subject to the whims of their tyrannical leader. As days tick toward the Seanchan attack she knows is imminent, Egwene works to hold together the disparate factions of Aes Sedai while providing leadership in theface of increasing uncertainty and despair. Her fight will prove the mettle of the Aes Sedai, and her conflict will decide the future of the White Tower---and possibly the world itself.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

(Honk! Honk! Get on the Bandwagon)
『Just finished this book and I went right to the sale barn and picked up two horses to pull my bandwagon to the local book stores and pick up idle fantasy readers. This book and Brandon are the real deal. This is not Fiest or Jordan this is a new player in fantasy. Now I know that Sanderson is finishing the Wheel of Time series and while reading this book I tried to compare his and Jordan's writing styles and I believe that Robert Jordan's wife choose the right author to finish the Wheel of Time.

Mistborn is just as detailed and all encompassing as WOT. Actually I feel like Sanderson being younger than Jordan has taken a hold of the reigns for Epic Fantasy. He seems to have done what all great writers do, he has read and learned from his peers and created something new to add to the pyramid of Fantasy Novels. Nothing about this book is rehashed old Lord of the Rings or WOT material. Brandon has created a fresh world based on a magic system that is unique to the genre. Metal is the basis to the magic in The Final Empire and the depth of how it relates and works within the world of this novel is perfect for us closet MENSA members (Ha!,yeah I wish)

I hear this author is planning a 10 book series based on a new world unrelated to Mistborn......Guess I will need a bigger wagon, Huh ?

(Interesting magic)
『Mistborn has several strengths.

First it's solidly in the fantasy genre (I'm not a fan of those novels that stray too far from the high road).
Second, the magic, called Allomancy, which is based on the ingestion and use of metals, is unique, highly interesting, and serves the story well. It gives the main characters unusual but believable powers.
Third, the secondary, or underlying plotline is dark and evocative enough to make me want to continue with this series.

There are weaknesses also, the main one being that the characters talk too much, and explain things that I'd rather be shown in a way that I can discern for myself.
The other weakness worth mentioning is that Sanderson's world-building skills, so essential in fantasy, are either under-displayed here, or are lacking.

Still, it's a good read, barely four stars, but four stars nenetheless.』

(very entertaining, exciting, and fast paced!!!!!)
『I was very weary about reading this book as I had just finished the Assassin's Apprentice by Hobb and I was afraid no book that I ever read would add up to that series. I was surprised with this book. It had constant action, constant plot development, strong and unique characters, a well shaped and thought out world, and a great story line. I really couldn't put this book down. It as very action packed and I loved the different type of magic that the author came up with. I loved this book.』

(Deeply Satisfying Read)
『Brandon Sanderson knocked it out of the park with this book. Riveting and compelling from the first page, we have a layered and complex action adventure tale that will captivate any reader. I particularly appreciate how much of the story was advanced via balls and social interaction; the intrigue nicely balanced out the battle scenes. Sanderson's magic system is intriguing, his characterizations are complex, and overall, it was a completely enjoyable book. Strongly recommended!』

(Evil won. Now what?)
『The Final Empire is the first volume of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy.

The land has been controlled by the sinister Ruler for a thousand years. And for a thousand years, it has suffered. A cruel noble class enslaves and tortures the broader population. An evil church oppresses the hearts and souls of the people. The landscape itself suffers - ash raining from the sky all day and eerie mists filling the streets at night.

However, this charming realm is not without champions. A handful of Skaa (essentially the common folk) have access to Allomancy, the metal-based magic that is generally the plaything of the upper classes. Lead by Kelsier, a talented Mistborn (that is, one that can use all sorts of types of Allomancy), a crew of thieves and rebels plot the overthrow of the Final Empire.

The majority of the story is told from the perspective of Vin, a sixteen year old girl and another Skaa Mistborn. She's 'discovered' by Kelsier and brought into the plot, wherein she soon plays a critical role.

The premise of the book is, if not unique, still sadly quite rare. Whereas most high fantasy follows a 'good land, bad threat, good prevails' structure, the idea of starting in a world where the bad guys already won is too rarely explored. And Sanderson spends a lot of time in the exploration. Kelsier's crew of rebels infiltrate every aspect of society - from the military to the mines, from the church to the nobility. They discover undeniable corruption and faint glimmers of hope, and, in a credit to the author, the characters spend their time articulately debating everything. The revolution against the Ruler is a meticulously-plotted scheme, and we're let into every detail.

If the scheming is the real protagonist of the book, Allomancy takes a close second. Sanderson has invented a unique system of magic based on the consumption and 'burning' of metals. Pewter gives strength, while Brass allows emotional 'soothing', etc. It is an elaborate and intricate system that the author takes no small pride in explaining.

However, underneath the complex plotting and the magical world-building, there's not a lot of character development. When push comes to shove, Vin is the same magical stableboy that we see in every high fantasy novel. She's found on the streets, parentage unknown, heir to an unprecedented magical power, etc. etc. She's more likable than most, but, when everything else is stripped away, her plot arc is pedestrian and clear (down to the predictable romantic interest). This is, needless to say, a disappointment.

The Final Empire has an elaborate premise, an intriguing plot and meticulous world-building. But without strong character development, it comes dangerously close to being just another high fantasy, if better written than most. Sanderson has come up with new ways to dot the i's and cross the t's - but is still ultimately writing the same sentence.』

Brandon Sanderson, fantasy’s newest master tale spinner, author of the acclaimed debutElantris, dares to turn a genre on its head by asking a simple question: What if the hero of prophecy fails? What kind of world results when the Dark Lord is in charge? The answer will be found in the Mistborn Trilogy, a saga of surprises and magical martial-arts action that begins inMistborn.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the“Sliver of Infinity,” reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler’s most hellish prison. Kelsier “snapped” and found in himself the powers of a Mistborn. A brilliant thief and natural leader, he turned his talents to the ultimate caper, with the Lord Ruler himself as the mark.
Kelsier recruited the underworld’s elite, the smartest and most trustworthy allomancers, each of whom shares one of his many powers, and all of whom relish a high-stakes challenge. Only then does he reveal his ultimate dream, not just the greatest heist in history, but the downfall of the divine despot.
But even with the best criminal crew ever assembled, Kel’s plan looks more like the ultimate long shot, until luck brings a ragged girl named Vin into his life. Like him, she’s a half-Skaa orphan, but she’s lived a much harsher life. Vin has learned to expect betrayal from everyone she meets, and gotten it. She will have to learn to trust,if Kel is to help her master powers of which she never dreamed.

Readers ofElantristhought they'd discovered someone special in Brandon Sanderson.Mistbornproves they were right.

(An epic failure)
『The Legion of Super-Heroes has always been a hard comic to get into. Set 1000 years in the future and with a cast of over two dozen Legionnaires plus supporting characters, villains and alien worlds being a Legion fan combines the worst elements of being an X-Men fan and a Trekie. To make matters worse the series was rebooted in 1994 with a new continuity and then again 2004 with another new one, and then in 2008 the Legion's 80s version came back, but with several differences.

So now we have Geoff Johns (creator of the 2008 reboot) and master artist George Perez trying to reconcile the many different versions of the Legion and relaunch it yet again.

The result is a confusing mess full of shouting and fighting but lacking any charm.

The plot (such as it is) is Superboy Prime (an insane, evil, and boring alternate version of Superman) arrives in the 31st century and starts killing people. For no real reason. Because he's evil. He soon frees all of the Legion's foes (adding another several dozen characters to the story). So the Legion brings in Superman from the 21st Century, the Green Lantern Corps and the 1994 and 2004 Legions to help them.

The scene when 3 Legions unite is almost funny as we see different attempts to make the characters look cool. Once the fighting starts several characters are killed but deaths have no impact when there are two carbon copies of the same character are standing right there. The simple fact is all 3 versions of the Legion are much too similar to make for interesting contrasts.

In the end more characters are dragged in, two minor characters from 90s are resurrected (after Geoff Johns killed them in a pervious crossover), a Legionnaire turns evil and Superboy Prime is temporarily defeated.

The worst thing is that this books uses several themes from the 90s Legion books like Legionnaires growing up, Earth turning xenophobic, even the adult Legion meeting their younger counterparts. But it lacks the subtly of that age and replaced it with cheap shock value.

Perez's art is as good as ever, but that's part of the problem. His futuristic designs have not changed since the 80s. It's hard to imagine what the world might look like 1000 years from now but Perez's designs do not even measure up to the futuristic visions of Keith Giffin in the 80s or Jeff Moy in the 90s.

Honestly I was a big Legion fan, I'm familiar with all 3 versions, I can identify every character in this book, I have long boxes full of Legion comics and... I was bored. There is no story here, no characters, just lots of noise without meaning. Stay away.

(The Entire LOSH Roster... Times Three)
『Things are looking bleak for the Legion of Super Heroes. A hatred of non-humans is sweeping across the Earth led by a bigot named Human-Man and the multi-planet roster of the Legion has left it an undesirable element on the verge of disbanding. The real problem, however, is the arrival of Superboy-Prime who, after being pulled to the 31st century by the Time Trapper, visits the Superman museum only to discover that he is considered a minor nuisance in the Superman pantheon of villains. This sends Superboy-Prime over the edge and he proceeds to free all the members of the Legion of Super Villains from prison and even hooks up with Mordru. His ultimate goal is to... um... kill everyone he can?

After the first twenty or so pages I was prepared to declare Legion of Three Worlds a rousing success. George Perez always gives a project like this that big event feel and he is in top form here. With Geoff Jones at the helm I was hoping they could recapture the magic of Infinite Crisis and The Sinestro Corps Wars. On the other hand everything tied in with Final Crisis has disappointed me so I was a little leery but in reality despite having Final Crisis prominently displayed on the cover there is actually nothing that I can think of that ties this series to Grant Morrison's train wreck. My all time favorite LOSH storyline was `Here's a Villain, There's a Villain' by Keith Giffen from way back in 1984. Three Worlds features an even larger gathering of villains but their release seems pointless since they have almost no real impact on the story. If Superboy-Prime had never released the Legion of Super Villains it would hardly have made a difference.

Another problem is the size of the Legion's roster. It's always been humongous and that's one of the fun features of the Legion but after contacting two Legions from alternate dimensions to help fight Superboy-Prime they literally triple the size of the Legion. Was there really a reason to have this many characters and why do the three Brainiac 5's fight like school children. This leads into my next issue. I am a big fan of Superboy-Prime but I'm worried the Geoff Jones is killing the character. I understand that Prime is emotionally stunted thanks to his universe being destroyed and being locked away for two decades but you can be emotionally immature without speaking like an impudent little brat. And when Prime was locked away he looked to be about 14 or 15 not 6 as his dialogue might imply here. Superboy-Prime has been reduced to one long childish tantrum and I'm sorry to say that he's become a very one dimensional character. I also have to wonder just how powerful he is. My understanding is that he is as strong as the Silver Age Superman but lacks his weaknesses to Kryptonite and magic. But is he really strong enough to defeat an endless wave of Legionnaires including the heavy hitters like Ultraboy (in triplicate) and the Daxamite Lantern Sadam Yat and of course Superman himself? Almost the entire series is devoted to one long battle against Superboy-Prime who now seems even more powerful than when he kicked the hell out of Sadam Yat in Sinestro Wars. I hate to see Prime used so poorly because he really is a character with huge potential.

The final problem I'll mention (although it is not the only other problem) is the return of two major characters who were quite clearly dead. I just think it really cheapens the death of any character when you know that a writer might just bring them back. Their resurrections didn't even make sense and the reaction of their friends seemed more akin to what one might give after seeing a good friend return from a five year trip not someone literally returning from the dead. I guess in the DCU characters come back so often that it's become business as usual. In the end the story is just too cumbersome and filled with plot holes. So why am I giving it four stars? It still managed to be a lot more fun than any other Final Crisis tie-in I've read although you may have to set your brain on neutral. I did like the eventual fate for Superboy-Prime although I think Johns could have executed it a bit better. This is a book I recommend despite its huge flaws although I wouldn't argue hard with someone who gives it a lower score.』

(Superboy-Prime: "The robot. The buildings. Yeah. I'm in the stupid future.")
『To me, one of the best things to ever come out of the landmark Crisis on Infinite Earths was the debut of Superboy-Prime (DC COMICS PRESENTS #87). I was a kid back then in the '80s and this was before all the dime-a-dozen reboots and Elseworlds, and I remember that electrifying feeling of wish-fulfillment when I first read about this ordinary kid inhabiting our real world, whose unfortunate name was Clark Kent (his parents had a warped sense of humor), and who then suddenly developed the powers of the Boy of Steel. I don't recall his impact on that first Crisis, but he survived the death of the multiverse, safe in a reality bubble shared with the Earth-2 Superman and Lois Lane and young Alexander Luthor. At that time, we thought we'd seen the last of them.

52, Vol. 4 brought back the multiverse, and Infinite Crisis is when we meet Superboy-Prime again, but a twisted version of him. All those years of exile had embittered young Clark, his sanity compromised by the loss of his own world, Earth-Prime, and all that he's ever known and loved. From then on, it's a short step to hating all things Superman, that older alternate-world counterpart who's managed to keep intact his own reality and loved ones and it really grates on Superboy-Prime that this Superman is so universally revered. So imagine how cheesed off he gets when he's flung to the far future, to the 31st Century, and looks around and sees the Man of Steel's imprint everywhere and most specially on the Legion of Super-Heroes. Worse, he learns that a statue of him in the Superman museum has been relegated to a service closet, his legacy having pretty much amounted to diddly-squat. An enraged Superboy-Prime makes a vow: "Ill destroy everything Superman has ever inspired!". And that most definitely includes the Legion.

I remember when the Legion's far-flung future gleamed with shiny bright optimism and prosperity. But this is a 31st Century that's gotten dirtied up, bleak and bereft of that retro 1950's innocence and this is an Earth festering with xenophobia. We find the original Legion already under siege, already demoralized and with most of the United Planets Council proclaiming that "This galaxy has no more use for the Legion of Super-heroes." and calling for the team to disband. More, the Legion's roster is reduced, a significant number of its membership missing in action. Sun Boy now spends all his time alone and drinking and wallowing in self-pity. Superboy-Prime's arrival couldn't have come at a worse time.

LEGION OF 3 WORLDS is hellaciously epic, pulse-pounding stuff. The first issue does open with heaps of exposition as Superboy-Prime rages about in the Superman museum, and it's not helping that the tour guide is this endlessly cheery holographic Jimmy Olsen. Superboy-Prime had already made up his mind to tear $#!% up in the 31st Century. That the holo ends up filling him in on the Legion of Super-Villains just makes things that much easier. Soon the Legion finds itself facing a massive assault from the deranged Boy of Steel and from just about all the heavy hitters on the Legion's rogue gallery (Mordru, Universo, the Fatal Five, etc.). And, of course, the Time Trapper, perhaps the Legion's most implacable, most enigmatic adversary, is pulling the strings from behind the curtain.

Some time ago, one of Dream Girl's visions had warned Brainiac 5 of the possibility of Superboy-Prime's coming, and this has bought the arrogant Coluan enough time to apply his 12th level intellect and implement a desperate contingency plan. And the first stage of that plan is to recruit Legions from two other realities. Me, I'm old-school so I prefer the original Legionnaires (who, to clarify, are the key protagonists here, along with Superman). But for those who fancy the post-Zero Hour (cool!) or the Threeboot (ugh!) incarnations of the Legion, then here's a chance to catch up with them. Me, I'm pretty stoked that Ferro and Gates are back in action.

So, yeah, it's a huge, huge cast, and you can't really blame Johns for focusing mostly on Superboy-Prime and selected Legionnaires, specifically Superman, the three original Legion founders, and the original Brainiac 5. But also solidly featured are the original versions of Sun Boy, the White Witch, Dawnstar and Wildfire (and I'm glad we get a sort of resolution to their relationship), and my favorite Legionnaire Brek Bannin, a.k.a. Polar Boy.

Speaking of, there's a sequence in which Polar Boy makes a last-ditch stand against Superboy-Prime and this constitutes possibly the most awesome Polar Boy moment ever (okay, with the possible exception of when he was elected leader of the Legion). If Superman embodies the ideals upheld by the Legion, then Polar Boy is the one who most fervently embraces these ideals. Dude is unflagging, and when you factor in his underdog status and that he had to apply for membership in the Legion over and over and over before being accepted, and that for years he languished, uncomplainingly, in the Legion of Substitute Heroes, then you may see why this guy is so easy to root for. To me, Polar Boy is THE man.

Fifty years of dense, broken continuity and three iterations of the Legion (and that's not even counting L.E.G.I.O.N.). It's crazy convoluted, and it's a lot to take in. Somehow writer Geoff Johns makes the story accessible enough and lends enough clarity that even newbies to the mythos can sort of follow along. But there's no denying that even longtime fans may have to occasionally look hard twice to figure out just who is who and from which Legion. Having said that, there's a lot of fun in seeing three Ultra Boys getting on so famously, with three Phantom Girls mooning over them. And one outstanding little moment (out of many memorable ones) which really resonates is when the three original founders show up (I guess plucked from when they'd just founded the Legion - Cosmic Boy still sports that bubble helmet). The fresh-faced kids gaze in wonder at all the future and otherdimensional Legionnaires, and each has something to say to their counterparts:

- Young Cosmic Boy: "The dream! It all comes true, doesn't it?"
- Young Saturn Girl: "Mr. Brande is right. We actually help unite the universe."
- Young Lightning Lad: "I look awesome." (Hah!)

FINAL CRISIS: LEGION OF 3 WORLDS (and, by the way, the FINAL CRISIS ties are tenuous, at best) collects the five issues of the mini-series, and features George Perez's stunning, lavishly detailed pencils. And, frankly, in reading this trade format, I'm almost convinced to give a pass to DC for being so late in putting out some of the issues (But I'm still cheesed). Geoff Johns is doing massive work in this series as he finally gives the lowdown on several plot threads that have been dangling for the past few years in the DC Universe. For those who've been wondering just what's up with that lightning rod from The Lightning Saga arc (chronicled in Justice League of America: Lightning Saga (Volume 2)), you find out here. We also learn who (or what) has been hiding beneath the Time Trapper's purply hood, and it actually makes sense. Back in the 21st Century, we finally learn Starman's mysterious mission. We get to see the last Green Lantern in action (and then, later, the really last Green Lantern). Also, deaths and resurrections. And, heck, Geoff Johns even delves into meta-fiction.

I'm still a bit put out that DC turned Superboy-Prime into a villain but, after seeing him be the featured Big Bad in INFINITE CRISIS and THE SINESTRO CORPS WAR, I guess I've come to terms. Evil Superboy touts this ridiculous combo of bratty entitlement, homicidal rage, and an enormous case of the wiggy, and yet his comments, so petulant and filtered thru a teenager's vocabulary, keep cracking me up. Johns must have a blast writing this crazy cat.

All along, Johns's storytelling gives us great character moments to go with the epic scale and the big crackling action. If you're a fan with any sort of expectations regarding this mini-series, then chances are that Geoff Johns will meet them. The guy loves the Legion of Super-Heroes and it shows in the care he puts in, in the attention to detail and the little fanboy treats he throws our way. It's titled LEGION OF 3 WORLDS, but I think that just about everyone who's ever been a Legionnaire pops up in this one. I think I even saw Proty somewhere. And I definitely glimpsed a headband-wearing, pre-CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS Supergirl. If nothing else, how could you pass up three Brainiac 5s squabbling with each other?

At the end of the day, Geoff Johns has also managed to introduce several new open-ended plot threads to entice you and me to pick up the spanking new ADVENTURE COMICS, which co-features the Legion of Super-Heroes. Now if only one of those future stories could somehow include a few panels of Reed Richards and Brainiac 5 competing in a Sudoku match, how cool would that be?』

『Superstar writer Geoff Johns and legendary artist George Perez deliver the Crisis of the 31st century as the Legion of Super-Heroes reaches out for help against a powerful foe they can't beat alone!
From the moment Superman landed on Earth until the end of time, the Time Trapper has sought to erase Superman's impact on the universe. But the Legion of Super-Heroes have always been there to stop the relentless villain. Now, one Legion isn't enough as the Time Trapper taps a twisted mirror image of The Boy of Steel from a parallel Earth long dead: Superboy-Prime! Who will answer the Legion's call for help? With ties to INFINITE CRISIS, FINAL CRISIS and the history of the DCU, this tremendous miniseries is not to be missed!』

(Good for new Final Fantasy fans)
『Except for Final Fantasy Tactics (psp) and Tactics advanced, both of which are spin offs of the series, I hadn't played a single Final Fantasy title until after I played a month's worth of this game. Initially I thought the game was okay; I enjoyed the music and graphics, but the levels weren't really that interesting looking to me except for a few, and the dialogue annoyed me greatly (and the voice over for Cosmos especially). The Tidus/Jecht storyline, however, really interested me in playing FFX (I wanted to know why Tidus hated his father), even though I didn't like how Dissidia tied their story (and the other characters) to Dissidia's own storyline. I do realize there's only so much content you can put in one game especially when the characters are all from different game, thus, the game is, in my opinion, a good way to familiarize yourself with some of the characters if you haven't played any of the Final Fantasy games of the main series.

I personally would grade this game between a C- and D.』

(A great game!!!!)
『This game is a great addition to anyone's collections. The fighting and graphics are the best yet』

(Great game)
『I bought the PSP system just for this game. As a final fantasy fan, this game is a must. All the major heroes and villains from FF!-10 are in this game. Also in the North american release we get an exclusive Arcade mode that plays like a standard fighter.』

(Best game for the PSP!)
『Dissidia is a complex game with a seperate story mode(you play as each character through a long story), and a battle mode,(playing as your fav character against comps or other people). There are other applications like, arcade mode... etc.

GOOD:
- great graphics
- great controls
- thousands of accessories, materials and weapons
- amazing characters(personally love Onion Knight)
- battles get more fun each time
- classic FF system
- online battling

BAD:
- story is ecsessive
- difficult to play at first
- sometimes slow on online battles

overall, BUY THIS GAME!!!』

(AWESOME)
『The product came on schedule, it was boxed wonderfully. The person who I gave it to for Christmas loves it. Even my dog loves it but the human won't let the dog have it. The pillow is very soft.』

(Very cute but not big enough for me. ^^)
『I'm a new but very zealous Fullmetal Alchemist fan. I love collecting things just like music CD, DVD and toys of Fullmetal Alchemist. I collected this too of course. It's fluffy and with vivid color just like Edward's hair. The face of this pillow is so cute. In the TV series, sometimes, Edward's face appears just like this. When I first saw this pillow, it made me laugh and I decided to buy it right away! I love not only Fullmetal Alchemist but also toys and dolls, "I wouldn't miss this wonderful thing for my collection." I thought.
However, I still think this pillow is not big enough to me. It's only 11.0x5.0x11.0 inches, I love fluffy toys and dolls as big as my teddy bear which is about 20x10x18 inches.
Generally speaking, this pillow is really cute and very fluffy. I often nestle it while I'm sleeping, it feels wonderful! Take it home and let it gives you good emotion and a nice dream!^^』

(Fluffy ^0^)
『It's fluffy and fuzzyish, and fairly durable looking... (I really haven't tried to tear it apart to test how durable it is...) Plus, it's a good conversation starter about Fullmetal Alchemist. People are bound to ask you what the heck that funny looking pillow is that's over there, or they'll stare at it, and then you at least ^_^
It really is a nice pillow thing, although, because of the yellowish shade of it's pillowiness I wouldn't recommend that you sleep on it with especially espcially oily, muddy, or the whatnot hair.』

『Fans of Fullmetal Alchemist will want to equip their living quarters or bedroom with these super deformed pillows of the Edward Elric. Approx. 16" in diameter.』
