Unlike most FF games, there was no tear-jerkingly emotional story in this game. Also unlike most FF games, the music here is played with ACTUAL INSTRUMENTS by an ACTUALLY TALENTED composer, Kumi Tanioka. So, while nobody is going to have an irrationally strong attachment to someone tinny-sounding MIDI song just because it was played when ____ died, this is also the only Final Fantasy soundtrack that people who don't like videogames "Actually Like". In short, it's good stuff.
All tracks are very sweet, medieval-sounding and evocative, with soem very unusual instruments. The flute used here, in particular, is super beautiful. My faves are "Moving Clouds on the River's Surface", and "Amidatti and Elenor Too", and "Goblin's Lair", as well as "Sleeping Treasure in the Sand". The two vocal songs are also quite wonderful. "Kazenone" is an excellent and catchy pop song, while "Starry Moonlight Night" is a wonderfully peaceful lullaby that has a very cool Rusted Root-esque jam towards the end.
In short, well worth the cost.』
(Gold) 『Nobuo Uematsu, who has been the leading Final Fantasy composer, is nowhere to be seen in this OST. Instead, Kumi Tanioka takes all the credit. While her work on FFXI wasn't too inspiring, Crystal Chronicles seems to unleash her full potential. The soundtrack in general has a festive, Celtic feel that carries throughout. That said, every song has a familiar ring, which can get annoying if kazoos and whistles and strings aren't your thing. But all in all, a great piece of work that is a bit more upbeat and fantasy-laden than previous Final Fantasy tracks, though it is not nearly as compelling or moving.』
(A Crystal Masterpiece) 『Simply said and spoken, this is one of the best Final Fantasy OSTs I have ever heard』 『Full title - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle. Japanese soundtrack (Regular Edition) to the Nintendo Game Cube game. Double-CD set containing all 51-tracks used in the game. Also includes the theme song by Yae. All music composed, arranged&produced by Kumi Tanioka. Leafage. 2003.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Not the perfect Final Fantasy VI arranged soundtrack, but a worthy one.) 『Final Fantasy VI Grand Finale holds the distinctions of being based on the greatest video game soundtrack ever and of being my first arranged game soundtrack. So this disc has high expectations to live up to. About half of its tracks I am totally satisfied with the way they were done. A few follow their original game versions rather closely and sound terrific performed by real instruments. In others the arrangements vary slightly from the originals, but the changes follow the spirit of the OSV closely. I'm especially happy with the excellent version of the game's opening theme.
However, there's a slightly different story to other tracks on the CD. In some arrangements there are small changes that hurt an entire piece. For example, an otherwise perfect rendition of Relm's theme is ruined for me by blaring bagpipes. Others have changes that make them considerably different from the original versions. One example would be "Gau", which although a nice arrangement in its own right, doesn't posess the eye-watering quality of the original.
Most Final Fantasy fans will probably feel that this CD doesn't live up to the original soundtrack it is based on. Of course, many Final Fantasy fans - myself included - feel that the original soundtrack is one of the greatest musical achievements ever. A hard label to live up to. I must credit the arrangers for having a cinematic vision when they went about embellishing these compositions. I remember when I first got the CD, listening intently and envisioning the characters moving through my own little Final Fantasy movie as the music progressed. Fond memories, to be sure. So while this CD may not be the dream Final Fantasy VI arranged collection, it is nonetheless an interesting and entertaining one which fans should be hesitant to miss. 』
(Hanuting) 『As a youngster when the original game came out, the music playing in the background of the game influenced me to an impressive degree. Since this was one of the first games I really played through several times, it was really ingrained into my psyche. At times I would even play through the game just to hear the music. When I heard there was a CD of it done by a full orchestra, needless to say, I was excited. The renditions are very well done, and feature some exotic instrumentation (bagpipes for Relm... rather unusual, but very effective). I was particularly captured by the Aria (the opera house song/Celes's theme). I've played it for people who had never even heard of the game, and they's remarked at how beautiful it is. For those who have an emotional attachment to the game, it's an intense experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone, but particularly those who have played the game and loved it.』
(Incredible arrangement) 『Like many fans of game music, the Final Fantasy VI soundtrack originally got me interested in the genre. As a fan of classical music, I have always eagerly awaited official symphonic arrangements of my favorite game tunes, and Grande Finale is probably the best of said arrangements.
The music of FFVI is always emotional: sometimes brooding, sometimes hopeful, sometimes exciting. This arrangement showcases Uematsu's versatility as a composer and his cognizance of classical instruments. There are no synthesizers on this CD: only real performances with real instruments. The arrangement of the Aria is the best that has ever been done, and this CD is worth having just for that track. No track disappoints, and all should bring the nostalgic gamer back to the fun days of Super Nintendo gaming.
Not all video game lovers will appreciate this; even true Final Fantasy fans may be turned off by the soft style and lack of exciting battle themes. However, the music is well arranged, well performed, and breaks down the lines between game music and neoclassical composition. People who do not like the synthesized game sounds may appreciate Grande Finale for its imagination and simple charm. While this CD is not a must-buy for everyone, I recommend it to anyone who loved FFVI and anyone who appreciates good symphonic music.』
(An orchestral reiteration of Uematsu's finest work) 『For all of those who didn't like this soundtrack or who didn't give it a full five stars for its quality, I'm writing this review. Let me just say that a true lover of "classical" or movie music should truly enjoy this soundtrack all by itself; and for those who are not only among that order but who've had these tunes running in their head for years ever since they first played the game itself, this is a must-have item. Upon first hearing the orchestral versions of these songs via Napster MP3, I was blown away: Those beautiful layers of mellow strings and dazzling piano and every other orchestral instrument make it all worthwhile. It's simply a more refined and mature interpretation of the music that's just fantastic to hear. One might say it's almost like turning your favorite pop into a beautifully blended wine. My one favorite song had originally been the Aria, but sadly, the reworked "Kefka" was just plain gorgeous; the two are now in close competition. I only wish the lot of you could preview the music on the website through RealAudio to judge for yourself more precisely. Apparently, it's not popular enough for that! Needless to say, get this soundtrack if you don't have it already: it's worth it.』
(A Little Different, But Amazing Nevertheless...) 『Reading the other reviews, I can understand some of their complaints. Yes, some of the selections are not the most exciting from the OSV, and some of the songs have undergone "surgery", so to speak. However, if one can just dig a little deeper into the music, they will discover how truly amazing this CD is. Nobuo Uematsu's simple yet fantastic melodies are blended with a mature orchestra sound to achieve a high level of greatness.
Track Listing:
Opening Theme: This is beyond words. Very similar to the OSV version, only now the song has that rich texture that only a live orchestra can provide.
Cefca: Good. I do agree that some of the darker tone the OSV version had has been removed, but this arrangement is still enjoyable.
The Mystic Forest: Hauntingly beautiful with a very surreal, mysterious tone.
Gau: Excellently orchestrated, nice use of cello.
Milan de Chocobo: Personally being a fan of the fast-paced, jovial qualities of the Chocobo themes from the games, I was initially put off by this track, but as I have heard it more and more I have come to appreciate the tonal qualities; very modern.
Troops March On: Very rousing piece; you can see the soldiers marching in formation. Really the only rousing peace on the whole album, in terms of style.
Kids Run Through The City Corner: I agree that the introduction to this track is a little bland and long, but once the piece enters the original theme, all is forgiven. Excellent use of strings.
Blackjack: Very pastoral. While listening you can see the hills and mountains moving by as though you were on the Blackjack itself. Doesn't quite have the pulse of the OSV version though.
Relm: Very well done. This is one of the better pieces on the album. The bagpipes are obtrusive but the rest of the arrangement more than makes up for it. If you liked it on the OSV then you'll like it here.
Mistery Train: This piece received the most "surgery" of any of these on the disc. Whereas the OSV version suggested the use of a full orchestra with brass, this version is merely a piano and violin. It is still very enjoyable and the arrangement gives it even more of a "blues" feel.
Aria Di Mezzo Carattere: What can I say? This track is wonderful as well. While not my favorite--I'm not an opera fan, so sue me--I still find this enjoyable. The melody of Celes's Theme is amazing no matter how it is performed. And unlike the simple notes of the OSV version, this arranged adaptation of the aria has lyrics in Italian.
All in all, this is an excellent CD. None of the tracks are bad if you have a sophisticated enough taste in music. If you like any of Final Fantasy VI's music--or any of Nobuo Uematsu's, for that matter--no matter what form, you will probably like this album.』

The first time i heard it in Final Fantasy 9, it brought tears to my eyes (i didnt cry though) And also, the japanese version's Lyrics has a better impact on you than the english version (read a translation). listen to it first. Secone, the song "Galway Sky" really put me down the first time i heard it (it only went through 30 seconds) It starts really slow in the beginning and it really doesnt sound good. but if u listen 4 1 minute or so, it turns into an upbeat irish jig. i loved it....』
(une cay-day) 『the CD is great but u know what 4 songs or whatever is NOT worth 18$! aren't all these songs on the other CD? if so, wouldn't you rather get 110 songs more for 3 times that price?』
(An interesting gem.) 『I am an avid video game music collector and listener. I am especially fond of the Final Fantasy series in general, and I hold Nobuo Uematsu in the highest esteem. His recent trend for a pop-style theme song is intriguing, and has its good and bad qualities. Melodies of Life is no exception.
The Japanese version of this song is breathtaking in its clarity and movement. It reaches into your soul unlike most other video game music themes. The sweeping melodies and layered harmonies blend to form a near-perfect track. The English version fares not so well. Though the tune and the voice are the same, the lyrics throw off the delicate balance of the song. If there was a better translation of the lyrics that fit the rhythms and beat of the song, it would have been much more complete.
The instrumental version of Melodies of Life is very nice, but having already heard the song twice through, it seemed a bit redundant.
Galway is a neat song, employing the tactics of many different genres. At first, it strikes me as similar to Montage, from Final Fantasy III Eternal Legend of Wind. As it plays through, though, it carries a subtleness of tone and a clarity of voice that pierces, even though I don't understand the words. A very nice track.
Overall, I don't think this CD is worth the price you end up paying. It is touching, but your money would be better invested in the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack itself, or one of the vocal albums.』
(Emiko Shiratori's voice is going to waste) 『You don't become a proffessional vocalist unless your voice is only a few steps removed from divine, or you're going on some weird Broadway show where they need bad accents and such. Therefore, I cannot blame the horror that is Melodies of Life on Emiko Shiratori, though it pains me greatly to blame Nobuo Uematsu, whom I hold in the highest regard. But this music is absolutely terrible. Ms. Shiratori's English coach was likely drunk, which is why her english is half the time slang, yet still rings with the perfection that only foreigners can achieve. Furthermore, the melody goes nowhere: no climaxes, no variation, nothing, not so much as a crescendo. Rather it adorns itself with meaningless and poorly placed ornamentation. For the love of god buy FF Pray instead.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Not The Best But....) 『I always wondered what they would come out with after the Voyage Home and I wasn't too surprised by what came up. Some of the insight into the main characters backgrounds was nice but the movie really just didn't make it. I liked OK, but not one of the best Star Treks.』
(Why does Amazon.com put all these positive reviews on here?) 『This movie was considered by most people to be horrible. Why does Amazon.com put these fanboys reviews over even serious critics Ebert, denounced it as the worst. So somebody will buy this B-movie?
』
(Give it a break!) 『I've read a lot of criticizm toward this movie on here. It's not THAT bad! Come on, it's got action, philosophy and comedy, the ingredients to a proper Star Trek movie! No it wasn't the best. Yes the plot was a bit weak, but I personally think it was a half-decent movie. The effects are decent for the time it was made, the acting was good, maybe could have been a bit better. I suppose the plot could have been used in a one-hour episode rather than a movie, but I think that everyone would agree with me when I say that this movie is NOT the worst compared to The Motion Picture, which is the only Star Trek movie I don't like because NOTHING happens in it! In this one they fight Spock's long lost half brother and find an evil alien claiming to be God (and the part where Spock gives the neck-pinch to a horse is priceless). In the Motion Picture, what did they do? Fly through a cloud. Oooooh, how exciting!
No, it's not the best Star Trek movie out there, but I say it was a fun, entertaining installment to the adventure.』
(It wasn't HORRIBLE) 『In my quest to view all the Star Trek movies, I had the somewhat misfortune of seeing them in this order: First Contact, Insurrection, Nemesis, The Voyage Home, Star Trek (2009), The Voyage Home (in full this time), Wrath of Khan
So then I restarted again with the first to last.
What was so horrible about "The Final Frontier"?
Standing on its own, I thought it was a pleasant enough movie, but it suffered from a severe lack of real drama. It seemed like there was no real immediate danger for some of the film, and then Sybock comes and starts using some sort of mystic powers to "brainwash" people to his cause, including members of the Enterprise crew.
Probably the only high point of the film involved him showing the greatest fears to Spock and McCoy, and in particular, the one involving Spock was disgustingly brutal, and treated properly as such.
But where was the rest of this movie? Kirk, Spock, and McCoy resist Sybock's manipulation, but go along with him to the center of the galaxy (what?) to some barrier where supposedly the center of all the major species' religions lie (I'm not naming the garbled fake names of the others, but the humans call it Eden) to find GOD HIMSELF!
Right away this flies in the face of about 1/3 of the Star Trek episodes in SEASON ONE ALONE of the Original Series.
How many times have the crew of the Enterprise encountered some godlike creature that could easily be considered any God, or even THE God worshipped by the Christians, Jews, Muslims, only to discover it's just a hyper-advanced alien creature of some sort or another?
I can name so many of them, Trelane, the things whose names I forgot that brought Kirk and the Gorn captain to fight, Charlie Evans and his overseers, the beings from that planet that Kirk and Spock were stranded on when the Klingons occupied it, the Archons, the Gatekeeper, etcetera.
And so just because it's this time around, they think it really could be God?
To be fair, it would seem that Kirk and Spock and McCoy are probably fully aware of the fact that there is a 99% chance it's NOT God, which is only confirmed by the being's not only failure to answer, but even necessitating the question be asked repeatedly by Kirk
"What does God need with a spaceship?"
But in the end, there's no big conflict, no big stand-off or showdown or great philosophical debate of profound proportions, Sybock is vindicated of being a villain, and is immediately removed from the picture as no longer essential to the film's momentum.
And then that's it. Every instance that there may be a conflict, either physically or verbally, either turns out to be a red herring or a SHOCKING SWERVE! revealing it to be something less than it could have been.
And that's really what this movie is. Less than it could have been. But that's not the fault of the actors or the director or anyone---it's a fault of the script. The movie's overall plot is one that could and should be a 50 minute rapid-paced single episode rather than a feature length movie.』
(Heading Off to Eden? Oh Brother!) 『Shatner co-wrote the story and directed Star Trek V, which changes a lot of what we fans know of Trek and is very derivative of earlier episodes without the humor and grace of what we expect.
As in the Eden episode from the Sixties, an alien takes over the Enterprise and forces the crew to go to a planet that most say contains God. OK, not bad, except the alien is Spock's brother! Say what? And he laughs out loud and belongs to a faction of Vulcans that have emotion.
After this film, I don't think any writer has referred to this faction, nor to Spock having a brother, ever again. And with good reason. Just does not play as good Trek.
Yeah, there are some interesting moments like Kirk climbing El Capitan and almost dying in a fall and teaching Spock campfire songs, but the overall film does not have the passion and the grace of the earlier films.
The desert scenes seemed fake and the dancing/prancing Uhura was done over by another actress! Nichelle Nichols is an accomplished singer/dancer, yet this was not to be.
However, decent music by Jerry Goldsmith! The weakest of the Original Trek films.
』 『Movie critic Roger Ebert summed it up very succinctly: "Of all of theStar Trekmovies, this is the worst." Subsequent films in the popular series have done nothing to disprove this opinion; we can be grateful that they've all been significantly better since this film was released in 1989. After Leonard Nimoy scored hits withStar Trek IIIandIV, William Shatner used his contractual clout (and bruised ego) to assume directorial duties on this mission, in which a rebellious Vulcan (Laurence Luckinbill) kidnaps Federation officials in his overzealous quest for the supreme source of creation. That's right, you heard it correctly:Star Trek Vis about a crazy Vulcan's search for God. By the time Kirk, Spock, and their Federation cohorts are taken to the Great Barrier of the galaxy, this journey to "the final future" has gone from an embarrassing prologue to an absurd conclusion, with a lot of creaky plotting in between. Of course, die-hard Trekkies will still allow this movie into their video collections; but they'll only watch it when nobody else is looking. After this humbling experience, Shatner wisely relinquished the director's chair toStar Trek II's Nicholas Meyer.--Jeff Shannon』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Final Approach) 『This was purchased for my 28-yr.-old son. It held significant meaning to him and as he put it, "It went DEEP in its message". When we viewed the movie, I enjoyed watching his reaction. It was a special wish come true.』
(Not what you think) 『This movie is NOT at all what you may be thinking it is about. It isn't about fast planes( the digital sound does not enhance the story, this is not a story about SR-71s!) and it isn't about war or secret missions, or cool spy stuff. This movie is a philosophical movie(and not even that!), but I won't tell you more or I'll give it away. Its a fairly good movie - not too deep, but it will stay in your mind. Elizondo is excellent in this piece, a very likable guy. That's about it.』
(Behind the Scenes) 『I worked on this movie and it truly was ahead of it's time. It was shot in 1991 with anamorphic (widscreen) 35mm cameras. The sound design was different than any movie up till that time and probably since, in that surround sound is almost always the 'gravy' of the audio meaning it has a part in the audio, but isn't as important. Well this movie dared to make the distinct digital surround channels as important as the front channels. The problem we ran into is 99% of the theaters couldn't handle the powerful surround channels that this movie had! They would crackle and distort. But when we found a theater that could handle the sound, wow, watch out. 90db of pure digital power especially with the afterburners in the SR-71.
Unfortunately, only a DVD with it's discrete digital channels could show you how it's supposed to really sound. I'd like to see this release in Blue-Ray or similar. Who knows, maybe this movie will have a resurgence.』
(What the H***) 『After reading all the great reviews I purchased this film. All I can think of is this the same film the reviewers saw?? I was tempted many times to hit the stop button but because of the reviews, thought, "it's got to get better soon". It didn't. It simply ended with everone watching saying "what happened?" It seems to simply be a vehicle to try out some special effects. Go back and watch 2001: A Space Odyssey if you want FX.』
(Great Little-Known Experimental Film) 『This is the first all digital sound film ever made, originally developed as just a test bed for new digital sampling, editing, and ADR technologies; it developed into a psychological film with surprisingly good acting. Everything about it actually gets better and better the further in you get. By the time we're at the scenes with his wife and the bathtub, the directing of the actors is spot-on realistic. The radio chatter is probably the most authentic of its type you'll ever hear, including references to the Tonopah Test Site where stealth tests have actually taken place. There's probably more high quality SR-71 stock footage in this than any other tapeyou'll find. My only complaint is that some of the ADR cockpit stuff is for a pilot who obviously doesn't look like the actor. But that's something that can be overlooked on an experimental film with such a small budget. There have since been other films that have used the same general story concept, but with a different framework, including a non-scifi French film that came out the year after this one did. While some have said that one is a bit subtler, I'd still have to say Final Approach is even more of the art house picture. The recent big budget incarnations of this concept, in my opinion, have just been horrible. It's too bad this film might never get released on nonrental DVD...』 タイトル『 Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within [VHS] >

(Convoluted story with an ambiguous ending) 『This is a very dark animated film, in which a remnant of humans are fighting aliens - and each other - to survive. On the one hand, you have a band of idealists, who believe that the Earth has a spirit that can be used to fight the invaders (whose true nature remains a mystery). They seek spirit essences of some sort, which when united might save humanity. On the other hand, there are militarists who see no reason to believe any of this; their ultimate weapon threatens to destroy the Earth's spirit, Gaia.
From this somewhat promising premise, the story becomes both a confusing shootout (it is unclear if the enemy aliens die and how to fight them) and a political struggle that becomes extremely deadly. At least for me, I could not quite forget that I was watching something made up - I never suspended my disbelief and gave myself over to it. The risks and ambitions just get bigger and bigger, the scenarios more outlandish and desperate and ultimate. By the end, it had nearly completely lost me.
One thing that is good, in my view, is that the outcome remains unexplained and ambiguous. The viewer is not told what happened and what it means, which is nice in that it leaves a lot to the imagination, which is the mark of all quality sci-fi. However, I found the characters boringly two-dimensional and the plot unoriginal, in spite of the good special effects. I assume that the product shoudl stand on its own, as I am not a gamer, and for me it barely did.
I would not recommend this except to those who like this world because of their familiarity with the game or because they want a simple adventure. It is not for hard sci-fi fans.』
(CGI Animation Done Right!) 『Long before James Cameron started pimping his Avatar epic, Square Pictures pioneered the world's first full-length photorealistic CGI animated movie. This was based on the hit video game franchise of the same name, although the movie took a more sci-fi approach as apposed to the more high fantasy that most of the earlier games.
Taking place on a post-apocalyptic Earth(that's right, not Ivalice!)in the mid-21st Century, Aki Ross is a scientist who is trying to collect eight seperate spirits, which when combined will create an energy field that will rid the planet of an alien force. The invaders are creatures referred to as Phantoms, which are ghostlike monsters that literally suck the souls out of people. This happened after a meteor crashed on Earth decades earlier, and the Phantoms spread throughout the world and killed off most of the humans. The survivors live in specially shielded cities, who have built a giant oribiting cannon to blast the alien meteorite and save the planet. But Sid, the scientist who created the special Phantom-proof shields, realizes that this might cause the aliens' spirit to take over the Earth's spirit known as Gaia, which would destroy all life. Sid along with Aki are enlisted the help of the special military squad of Deep Eyes, the commander of which is Aki's old boyfriend, Gray. They try to find the remaining spirits, however the vengeful General Hein is plotting to destroy the Phantoms at any cost.
The Spirits Within was the precursor to several other computer animated films that attempted to have the characters(human or otherwise)appear as real as possible, such as Beowulf, Kaena: The Prophecy, Resident Evil: Degeneration, and Negadon. The animation was virtually years ahead of its time, which might have worked towards its disadvantage as some people were possibly just not ready for that kind of advancement in cinema. Granted, it might seem pretty common by today's standards, but when this came out in 2001 it was groundbreaking, and even busts the chops of some of the more recent digital animation.
Of course the biggest gripe most people had was that it had very little to do with any of the actual Final Fantasy games. Most fans of the series expected guys with gravity-defying hair riding on Chocobos and swinging colossally huge swords around. However, the movie offered a compelling sci-fi/action/drama which managed to incorporate most of the better attributes that the games had, mainly brilliant character development and a compelling plot. It truly is an exceptionally great film, and worth a second look for those who are willing to see past the fanboy hatred.』
(MAGNIFICENT AND BREATH-TAKING 9.5 OUT OF 10) 『It's a shame that this film didn't do as well as it should have. It didn't do very well in terms of critical response (44% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and a 49 out of 100 on Metacritic), it was a box office bomb to the point of where Square Enix kicked the film's director and producer Hironobu Sakaguchi (The creator of the Final Fantasy game franchise) to the curb, and some people have been popping up who proclaim it to be "the worst video game movie ever!" Surprisingly, one of the biggest defenders of the film was film critic Roger Ebert who I hate greatly for a number of reasons. Roger Ebert handed the film a 3.5 out of 4-star rating and didn't believe people would understand the film. I believe Square Enix reacted a little too quickly to fire the creator of Final Fantasy, which I believe was a big mistake. And to those of you who think this is the worst video game film ever, clearly you've never sat through an Uwe Boll travesty, have you? Not to mention, most scores on different sites that I've researched, beg to differ on such a proclamation. I loved this film, it was an amazing cinematic accomplishment in terms of CGI and sci-fi action films. It may not have the most original storyline, but it does pull you in to a certain extent. WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Year: 2065, thirty-four years previously, a mysterious alien forced called Phantoms invaded the Earth and destroyed most of the life on Earth by stealing the spirits of their victims. Now the planet is overrun with the Phantoms. Dr. Aki Ross is a woman struggling with a Phantom parasite inside of her body and suffers from strange dreams she cannot explain. She goes around the planet trying to find eight spirits which, when all eight are collected, will destroy the Phantoms. With the help of the Deep Eyes Squadron and her mentor, Dr. Sid they search the planet to find the seventh and the most important eight spirit. But they face troubles with the military, and the military unknowingly is about to destroy Gaia (Earth's spirit) and let the planet become overrun with the Phantoms. Now Aki and the team must stop this from happening and destroy the Phantoms at their source. MUSIC: This music is simply amazing. It fit the mood well and was extremely well-written and composed. I have absolutely no gripes with this area at all, the music is stunning to put it bluntly. ACTION: This film a feast for the eye. The CGI is staggering and beautiful in every way... and this film came out eight years ago! Nothing competes with this film's CGI, not even Pixar films! The action scenes are wonderful and totally awesome in every regard. The film starts off slow, but then the film goes off with a bang and doesn't stop till the end. It gets the blood and adrenaline pumping and refuses to let go. This is how a Star Wars animated flick should be, not the disastrous Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Widescreen Edition) (Let's just try and pretend that never happened). Quite simply, this sci-fi flick is kickass. ACTING: Although not all these actors are recognizable, their performances are really good, even though there are some moments of questionable dialogue. This film may not have the most compelling characters, but they do their job well and they do move the storyline along quite well. Overall, this area is really good. OVERALL: If you love sci-fi flicks, CGI films, or just love awesome films in general, you must see this film because it will blow you away in just about every way. THE GOOD: Stunning CGI animation, awesome action scenes, good acting, and great music. THE BAD: The storyline doesn't quite live up to the potential and there are moments of awkward dialogue.』
(Definitely a gamers' movie) 『Beautiful colors and brilliant animation with excellent voicings.
That's it. That's about all you can say about this rewarmed pot-boiler. Hackneyed plot, nonexistent character development, unsatisfying conclusion.
This is a film that will appeal to gamers and fans of anime. Everyone else can find better use for their ticket money.』 『Earth is a desolate wasteland inFinal Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Humanity has been decimated by an invasion of Phantoms, insubstantial aliens that extract and devour the spirits of living things. The few remaining humans have retreated to a handful of cities that are protected by massive bio-energy shields. The beautiful Dr. Aki Ross (voiced by Ming-Na) and her mentor Dr. Sid (Donald Sutherland) have discovered that the energy signatures of eight key Earth spirits can cancel out and destroy the Phantoms. With the help of Captain Edwards (Alec Baldwin) and his band of marines, they must scour the globe for the last two remaining spirits before General Hein (James Woods) manipulates the refugee government into attacking the aliens with an orbital laser that may also destroy the Earth.
Hironobu Sakaguchi's film is taken from the popularFinal Fantasyvideo game franchise, which is particularly well suited to film adaptation with its series of original stories, but the movie features entirely new characters and settings. And likeToy StoryandShrek,Final Fantasy: The Spirits Withinis completely computer generated. Unlike those cartoon comedies, though,The Spirits Withinis a serious science fiction drama with astonishingly human digital actors. Aki, the female lead, appeared in a full-page spread inMaximmagazine's Hot 100 list--and was indistinguishable from the real-life models. The setting and conflict make for incredible action, but it's the larger issues, character interaction, and human elements that really make the movie shine. The Spirits Withinis not simply a science fiction movie, in the same way thatCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragonis not simply a kung fu flick. The result is a fantastic summer movie with better action and more emotion thanPearl Harbor, and actors more lifelike than those in that other video game movie,Tomb Raider.--Mike Fehlauer』

Blade is based on the Marvel comic book. This is a fine action film which reintroduces Dracula who was evidently entombed in a pyramid in Syria. Dracula (Dominic Purcell), though, is portrayed in this film unlike any Dracula we have seen in the past. When not in his human form he appears like the alien Predator. Everything leads up to the confrontation between Blade and this version of Dracula. Given all of the action in this film there isn't really much suspense. After recently watching films like "Basic Instinct", or "Seven", one realizes that what this film is perhaps missing is some mystery. The dark, brooding atmosphere is great, but we rarely feel any real tension, since there is little actual suspense, or expectation about what might or might not happen, and most of the characters themselves are largely two dimensional. Blade seems oddly distant for the duration of the film, but I did enjoy the Danica Talos character, who is portrayed in a wonderfully campy manner by Parker Posey.
One of my favourite scenes though is when Dracula/Drake enters a gothic gift shop that is full of Dracula paraphernalia, toys, garmets, et cetera. It is a witty statement about the commercialization of an iconic figure. I was also pleasantly surprised by the image quality of the film. This is a well produced and photographed movie that looks very good. All in all there was enough here to keep me interested throughout the film. So if one likes action for action sake, then this film definitely fits the bill, even if the scenes are sometimes choppy in the extended version.』
(underated...) 『Marvel Comics didnt support this series like the others. matter of fact, Stan Lee didnt have the decency to appear in any of the movies, yet Wesley Snipes still created a Blade that no one else couldve pulled off. and this particular movie had the comedic Ryan Reynolds in it with his incredible one-liners. i rated this a 5 star because despite all the odds Blade still did it!』
(Blade Trinity... All right Marvel; No more movies I mean it.) 『Blade Trinity: 1/10: Press reports at the time of Blade: Trinity's release claimed that star Wesley Snipes went off the deep end and tried to kill the director David S. Goyer. Lord knows he could have gotten away with it. Show the jury this movie and let the acquittals fly.
After two better than we deserved films the third Blade is a mess. For one thing the casting director is insane. The good guys consist of Snipes, Gabby Hayes (Kris Kristofferson), Elektra (Jessica Biel), Van Wilder (Ryan Reynolds), a retarded guy, a blind woman and Newt from Aliens.
The good guys have a "club" called the Nightstalkers. (What no Darren McGavin). Biel fights with an overtly plugged iPod playing horrible techno. (I would think being able to hear would be important in hand-to-hand combat) Reynolds's character spouts off endless one liners (most of them remarkably lame) and is saddled with the name Hannibal King. (Also needless to say remarkably lame) and fights with a light saber bow. (Please see above).
Speaking of lame we have the bad guys. We have wrestler triple H (who cannot act), Parker Posey (who cannot speak with the fangs in her mouth) and best of all Dracula (Who calls himself Drake. Thinks he is in a Highlander movie. He is also a pacifist piece of Euro trash that looks like he fell of a Harlequin romance book cover. And is easily the least convincing screen Dracula I have ever scene (I'm including both George Hamilton and Mel Brooks in this equation).
The script is awful (even if you remove Reynolds's one-liners), the film was edited in a Cuisinart, the continuity was done by the blind girl, and the plot consists of bad guys finding good guys headquarters, then good guys finding bad guys headquarters.
If your still not convinced a contribution to Mr. Snipes potential legal defense fund is in order let me remind you. Parker Posey is the head vampire and has a climatic battle with Van Wilder. You can make the check out to cash.

The law of diminishing returns is in full effect here, and the franchise is wearing out its welcome, but let's face it: any movie that features Jessica Biel as an ass-kicking vampire slayer and Parker Posey--yes, Parker Posey!--as a vamping vampire villainess can't be all bad, right? Those lovely ladies bring equal measures of relief and grief to Blade, the half-human, half-vampire once again played, with tongue more firmly in stone-cold cheek, by Wesley Snipes. With series writer David S. Goyer in the director's chair, the film is calculated for mainstream appeal, trading suspenseful horror for campy humor and choppy, nonsensical action. The franchise still offers some intriguing ideas, however, including Drake (Dominic Purcell), the original vampire, whose blood contains the secret that could destroy all blood-suckers in a plot that incorporates a sinister "blood farm" where humans are held--and drained--in suspended animation. And Biel's wise-cracking sidekick (Ryan Reynolds) in her cadre of "Nightstalkers" provides comic relief in a series that's grown increasingly dour. All of which makesBlade: Trinitya love-it-or-hate-it sequel... supposedly the last in a trilogy, but the ending suggests otherwise.--Jeff Shannon』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Joining in with the "this one was too cartoonish" chorus.) 『**Possible spoiler warning, proceed at your own risk**
Full disclosure: I only became a Nightmare On Elm Street fan recently, and I come to it from the Hellraiser fandom; a franchise that has had its own problems during its twenty-year run. And while other people score the second Nightmare On Elm Street film as the weakest in the series, I feel that description unfortunately applies to this one.
Believe me, it's not the fault of the actors here. Robert Englund is always awesome, Lisa Zane acquits herself well here as Maggie, veteran actor Yaphet Kotto turns in a likable performance, and the teen actors are all up to snuff. No, this film is a great example of what can happen when you have great-to-decent actors, and a director and screenwriter who seem to be trying to add to the mythology without taking it or their audience seriously at all. This is especially sad, because this movie could have been so much more than it was, considering what the director and screenwriter had to work with.
Let me clarify: In my experience, any horror movie franchise succeeds or fails on the basis of its mythology. There was already plenty of stuff in Freddy's past to work with, but this storyline could have been a lot more palatable in the right hands. I can see Freddy Kreuger having shown evidence of psychopathic behavior in childhood considering how he was conceived, and it certainly looks as if his origin story as the "Springwood Slasher" presents itself as the "perfect storm" of nature vs nurture (or lacktherof.) But Rachel Talalay camps it up so broadly that the impact of it is lost.
Same with most of the deaths - we get one serious, brutal, oldschool Freddy-style killing with the character Carlos. But then there is the incident with the NES power glove, which I think has gone down as the weakest killing in the entire series. It makes sense; back in 1989/1990, video games were not seen as the valid medium and potential art form as they are today. But it just seems as if the director is mocking Freddy, his victim, and the film's primary viewing audience (teens) all at the same time. Hellraiser had its lowest moment in the fifth installment with the infamous "Kung Fu Cowboys" scene; the Power Glove killing is Nightmare on Elm Street's equivalent.
Freddy has always cracked jokes and twisted teen pop culture into something he can wield back at his chosen victims. This is one of his attractions as a character, going back to the first film. But one of the reasons why this has worked so much better in other films in the series and not in this one is because Freddy's antics are only supposed to be funny to Freddy. I think part of the shock and horror factor of his murderous acts comes from the sheer sadistic amusement that he derives from committing them. In the first five films, we as the audience were able wince at the horrific and ironic nature of the killings (custom-tailored as they were to his individual victims) even as we appreciated Freddy's wit. But the killings in and of themselves are not supposed to be funny, or resemble something out of a Warner Bros. cartoon.
Also not supposed to be funny: an entire town suffering from the loss of its children, to the point of mass catatonia. Yet it was also played for laughs. And don't even get me started on the Dream Demons. As someone who is more used to Clive Barker's mythology and universe, I was expecting something more like the Iad Uroboros, the Big Bads of the from Barker's "Book of Art" series; H.P. Lovecraft-style horrors who thrive on human nightmares and are the reflections of the worst in humanity, who are just waiting to break through from the dream world so that they can consume all of waking creation. Instead, we got cartoonish tapeworm-creatures with adorably high-pitched voices that resembled refugees from a Jim Henson picture. These are supposed to be the things behind Freddy's gory and nightmarish rise to power?
In the late 1990s/early 2000s, Joss Whedon reminded us that it is possible to be clever, witty, and fun with a horror franchise while still respecting both the subject matter and one's target audience, and he did it for seven seasons with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. (Come to think of it - I'd suffer almost any privation for a Nightmare On Elm Street movie directed by Joss Whedon.) Wes Craven not only managed it with the first film in the Nightmare franchise, he did it again with the seventh film "New Nightmare," before scoring another hit with the Scream films. Ronnie Yu did it with Freddy vs Jason.
I had to go pop the fourth and fifth Nightmare on Elm Street films (Dream Master and Dream Child) back into the DVD player just to get over the disappointment of this one - which is regrettable, because the mythology of Freddy's daughter and origin deserved so much better than treatment it got in this film.』
(product review) 『I was pleased with the product I purchased but was completely dissatisfied with the charges that amazon added onto my purchase after I had bought the item』
(The Worst is Saved for Last) 『I recently re-watched this again, and I have to agree, this was definately the worst of the bunch that I've seen (I haven't yet seen Freddy vs. Jason, so don't know how it would compare). I wouldn't give it 1 star, as I was somewhat entertained, but this was definately below average for so many reasons. One of the reasons I pick on the original was it's idiotic dialogue, (for example, Nancy asking her dad to "arrest" Freddy when she pulls him out of her nightmares), but the dialogue added humor to an otherwise very disturbing tale. Part 6, however, was lacking the chills that made all the other movies that much scarier. The stoner in the video game was interesting, until it showed his "real" body running around the house like a cartoon with those awful sound effects. But what I really found annoying about this movie was the story. Nancy had connections in the first 3 movies (as a character in 1 and 3, and her diary that served as a background in 2). The characters in 3 overlapped into 4, and the characters in 4 overlapped into 5. Amanda became a known character in 3-5. So in a way the stories were all connected. Then comes 6, where the only real connection to the other movies was Freddy. We learn Freddy was married and had a child, none of which was disclosed in any of the other films, that he needs his child to escape the boundaries of Springfield without knowing why, and that one child remains who may or may not be blood-related to Freddy, but where are his parents/adoptive parents? It felt as if they forced a story in order to finish Freddy off, and they didn't bother with trying to find connections to the first movie. Forget all of that, though, what about pulling Freddy out of the dreamworld into reality? What a plot twist!... Oh wait, wasn't that what Nancy tried to do in the first movie? Why didn't it work then? That's the question a lot of people have, and the only thing I can think is that it didn't work for Nancy because it was all a dream (which would seemingly mean she pulled Freddy from one dream into another?). In part 6, we do learn more of Freddy's past, but unless you've watched the other previous movies you don't know why he is what he is, and what led up to his birth in the first place. And the dream demons, while an interesting idea, seemed out of place and not handled very well. I know they are planning to remake the original, and from what I can tell they plan to relaunch it as a franchise. If the directors are listening, my opinion is to make it a trilogy (nothing more than that as it seems that movies tend to die after the 2nd or 3rd installment), and use part 1 as the basis of part 1 remake, part 3 as the basis for the remake sequel, and parts 4 and 5 as the basis for the remake's finale.』
(FREDDY'S DEAD!?? IF ONLY IT WERE TRUE!) 『I am reviewing the entire Nightmare on Elm Street series, but not this DVD release. I own the box set and I wanted to do individual reviews for each film.
OK, sometimes during a long run of horror franchises, the train derails! This is the case with Freddy's Dead The Final Nightmare. The 3-D gimmick for the last 10 minutes are pretty cool, but not enough to save this so-so entry in the series. The DVD transfer looks good and the 3-D sequence is pretty good for old school 3-D!』
(The best 3D movie experience for me (the only one to, LOL)) 『In 1991 i would have been only been 8 years old and my older brothers still managed to sneak me in the cinemas, i will never forget this movie experience the staff gave me and everyone 3-D glasses when we sat down.
Fans let me be honest with you about freddy's dead, "ON THE BIG SCREEN THIS MOVIE ROCKS" i thought this was a good sequel it was a better movie then freddy vs jason which i also saw at the cinema's, i didn't like ANOEST.5: the dream child, only because of the fact that i had to always adjust my tv set this movie was to dark and to gothic like for me.
Im a big fan of the original 1984 film. I liked part 2, i thought part 3 was better then part 2, part 4 was ok, part 5 i didn't like and mentioned why, part 6 was good.
However wes craven's new nightmare was pretty ordinary in my eyes, i couldn't work out WHAT WAS REALITY (when nancy was nancy, or when she was acting as a real life person) AND WHAT WAS FANTASY (ie: a dream). This is ANOTHER movie i had to study a few times to get what's going on.
』 『Just when you thought it was safe to go to sleep, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) is back to haunt your dreams and freeze your blood! (MORE JASON MAYHEM 2 1/2 STARS!) 『I am writing reviews for each of the Friday the 13th, but I own the box set and the older releases of the later two. The reviews are for those editions not the newer deluxe editions.
With a bigger budget, this "Friday" installment has a better cast and FX. This film also marks the first time we get a good look at the adult Jason without his mask! The ending is memorable in this one, but the title is misleading.....the final chapter?....I think not!
The DVD transfer is very good and there are some cool extras on the box set.』
(Friday the 13th..Always a Great Choice!) 『This is another Friday the 13th movie for horror fans. It doesn't disappoint. My son is collecting all of these movies and by far this is his favorite!』
(One of the best) 『Just like part 3 this is a really good sequel in the Friday the 13th series. And actually not just another exact copy of part 1. Jason terrorises a group of teenage friends staying near the now closed down Camp Crystal Lake as well as a family living across the street from the unlucky teens. Corey Feldman stars in an early role as the 12 year old son of the family who is eventually left to defend himself against Jason, along with the traditional Last Girl (called so becuase these movies tend to start with a group of living teenagers and end with a group of dead teenagers and one living teenager, usually female) by the end. Like part 3 there is a pretty suspencefull chase scene in near the end. I think Jason looks really freaky in this one when he is unmasked.
Probably the best of the sequels so far.』
(Final Chapter My A@#) 『So it's more than obvious that this is not the last installment in the long running slasher series. "So if it isn't the last...Why did they say it was?" simple, to make more profit. After part 3's success (which was primarily due to the 3-D effects) the creator decided to find other means to gather audience to watch one more Jason movie. Even if this movie was meant to be the last, there really isn't anything new...This is literally the same exact thing as part 1-3. The same stupid kids come to have a good time, they have premarital sex, smoke weed, and of course how can we forget our beloved Jason who finds the best time to kill them.
Like the previous this sequel takes place the following day after the events of part 3. The bodies of the unlucky ones are being sent to a morgue. Along with the bodies is Jason, who as you thought right, is not dead. The movie is surprisingly more violent than the previous ones, especially the ending where they kill Jason for good...of course until they re-vive him in part 6. The sequel has one or two important moments; such as the brother of Sondra (character from part 2) he is hunting Jason, and he knows everything there is to know about him. Second important scene is a little background on Jason...Nothing we didn't know, but still interesting to see.
Body Count: 13 Violent Level: 4-Very Gory MY PERSONAL RATING: 2½ OUT OF 5

Can a plucky young boy stop the madness before Camp Crystal Lake's population report takes yet another machete-aided dip? The stalk-and-slash formula was pretty narcoleptic by this point, but this otherwise humdrum entry is distinguished by some unusual casting choices (Crispin Glover as a stud in training? Corey Feldman as a genius?) and the splattery return of makeup master Tom Savini. The fact that this installment was titledThe Final Chaptermay seem to contradict the existence of the numerous sequels that followed, but it's not as if logic was ever this series' strong point to begin with.--Andrew Wright』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The Final Showdown) 『Another great book. I am a new fan of the star wars books, expecially Jude Watson's series. I enjoyed this book, because it gave me a glimpse of what Anakin was like as a teenager, and his relationship to his friends. Even as a teen, it was obvious that Anakin was arrogant, but he was ahead of his peers in so many ways. This story focuses on a group of masters and their padawans being sent on a mission. The Jedi were stretched thin. The Jedi council decide to try an experimental accelerated Jedi Knight program. Of the padawans involved, Ferus Olin is chosen to be promoted first. This of course, sends Anakin into a rage. From that point on Anakin will harass and compete with Ferus on everything. Anakins friends will see how selfish he truly is. The ending is very sad. You feel sorry for all the padawans including Anakin.』
(The Force is once again with Jude Watson.) 『Wow! I LOVE this book! I liked how on Korriban you learn a little more about the sith and how it shows the power of "him". (the sith) I felt really bad for Anakin in the end, but I won't tell you what happens. Great book, I recomend it to everyone!』
(a sad book) 『it is a good book, but very sad. anakin loses his friend, tru.』
(I really enjoyed the book, but the end was incredibly sad.) 『The entire book I was tense and on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next, I was surprised around every corner on Korriban. Jude Watson must have researched alot for this one, because it went well with what I saw in Knights of the Old Republic, and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. The tu'kata beats, sounded exactly like those in Kotor. The book starts out with Anakin working on Tru's lightsaber, and then they start talking about how much they hope they are on the team together to find Granta Omega. Darra walks in and says that their masters and Ferus are in with the Council, when they are called to join them. It turns out Ferus was chosen to be the first to test out a "Knight acceleration" program. Anakin is furious, of course, because he thinks he is better than Ferus. They are than told they are to capture Omega and Jenna Zan Arbor on the Sith world of Korriban. He becomes angry at Obi-Wan when they start talking and Anakin finds out that, in Anakin's words, Obi-Wan "voted" for Ferus. Once on Korriban, Anakin starts taunting Ferus and they turn the mission into a contest of which one of them acan capture Omega first.
Since it is a showdown, it has to leave to death. But unfortunately, towards the end one of the Padawans dies. In my opinion, this was probably the book with the sadest death, that Jude Watson has writen. The deaths of Tahl and Yaddle, were very sad also, but this one sorta tops those, partially because Anakin keeps repeating things that they said in past books. It was also one of the sadest because they were one of my favorite characters in the entire Star Wars saga. The thing that was really bothersome, was the fact that Anakin but a petty contest, before friendship, and lost everything and yet after a pang of guilt and sadness he didn't care, and was completely power hungery, Korriban had effected him greatly. Many things that caused what he lost was because of his arrogance, and his anger. The book was very well written, and really got into the Sith world. There was brief forshadowing in the beginning of who would die, but its hard to catch, especially when it appears later another will die, because of more forshadowing. It was a very good book to end the series with, though it leaves you wanting another one.』
(One of the best in the series.) 『I enjoyed this book a lot. When I heard about a Padawan dying, I had my suspecions, boy was I surprised. It does not turn out to be who you think it will be. In this book we get to see how Anakin becomes influnced by the dark side. But you can't help feeling sorry for him when his world falls apart at the end.』 『
Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker are closer than ever to capturing their fiercest rival, the mysterious Granta Omega. But in order to do it, Anakin will have to betray one of his fellow apprentices . . . and Obi-Wan will be pushed farther than he's ever gone before in his search for justice - and revenge. This is a book every Star Wars fan will have to own.
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Good) 『Good product. Thorough strategy guide, and has a good art book that comes with it. Plus both of the books are put together in a nice decorated cardboard covering.』
(A Must Have for FF Fans) 『Ok, I have had this book for a long while now and am still working with it. Granted, there is not much difference between the regular and collector's edition strategy guides, but the art book makes it worth it. I bought it specifically for the art book. The guide is great, but I just love the art book. Because I loved this one so much, I bought the Limited Edition Strategy guide for Final Fantasy XII, and I love it just as much, the artwork is just as amazing. It may be pricey, if you can still find it, but it is well worth it if you are a true fan. I just wish they would do this treatment with a re-release of Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, and X strategy guides. We need to get on Bradygames about that.』
(Art is gorgeous, but...) 『The art part of the book is outstanding. Beautiful. Can't say enough good things about it.
The hint book half leaves a good bit to be desired. The print it tiny. The clues are confusing. The information is incomplete. You'd be better off just using the first part (about the dress-sphere and garment grids) and the last part (about the mini-games) and forgetting the middle part.』
(it's really good!) 『I rated the guide by itself 3 stars, because it's mediocre. The art book is fantasic though! I would buy it solely for that. A poster comes with it too, one side of the 3 girls in their mascot dresssphere, and the other side has information about 3 dressspheres. I would have preferred something better for the poster...it's kind of bland.』
(A little pricy, but well worth it) 『First of all, it is well worth it to buy this package if only for the artbook. It has artwork from both Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, including pictures from the FMV sequences in both games and all of the dressphere costumes for Yuna, Rikku, and Paine. You get one out of three covers on the strategy guide, but a good thing about that is that all three pictures are in the artbook, so if you didn't get the character you wanted on the cover you still get to have their picture. The package also comes with a 2-sided poster. The strategy guide itself includes a guide to getting the secret perfect (complete) ending to the game, which you will not be able to get on your own. Everything you get comes packaged in a folder that has the picture of Yuna on it from the game disk. This collector's guide is a must for any final fantasy fan, it is really really pretty and the guide is very helpful for unlocking the full story of Final Fantasy X-2.』

The book I read consisted of a lot of self-congratulatory essays on Asimov's creation of the Three Laws of Robotics (which aren't really laws, but that's a topic for a different rant) punctuated by a bunch of shaggy-dog stories (MAYBE they were funny in 1955) and a couple of lame science-fiction stories. I know Dr. Asimov was a brilliant man, but this book in no way offers him tribute to his genius. For fans only. Maybe.』
(Good Collection of Asimov's Work) 『If you're a diehard Asimov fan like I am, you'll probably like this book. The main story,"Gold,"details a filmmaker realizing the second part of ...And the Gods Themselves. For that alone, it's worth a look.
Asimov's more famous collections are a little more fun. If you're becoming an Asimov fan, it's best to start with his early science-fiction and then move through his career.』
(An author's gamble) 『"Gold"is an interesting piece of fiction. Clearly turning autobiographical at times, Isaac Asimov tells the story of an author determined to see one of his more famous works turned into something greater -- a"compu-drama", the brand-new visual medium of the future. It's an engaging story that uses its science fiction trappings to tell a tale about authors, stories, and the place the both of them hold in history. It is this theme along with the ways that different characters interpret the same piece of fiction that give this work its bite.
The fictional author would appear to be based, at least somewhat, on Asimov himself. The biggest clue to this is the book that the writer is looking to have produced bears a striking resemblance to one of Isaac Asimov's more celebrated novels. In fact,"resemblance"probably isn't going far enough -- for all intents and purposes, the book being discussed in"Gold"categorically is one of Asimov's more famous stories, at least, in most important respects (there is one section that is hinted to be different, but it seems clear that the bulk of the stories are identical in theme, plot, and characters). Readers who have already read that book will no doubt enjoy picking up some of the references. I had personally greatly enjoyed that book, and I found it quite interesting to get another interpretation of some of the more abstract concepts presented there. Not to say that Asimov explains them away; he merely presents an interpretation of the facts in a way that would be natural to someone trying to produce something so intangible in a visual context.
"Gold"isn't the best piece of fiction that Asimov wrote during his long and celebrated career, but it should definitely be considered worth reading. The science fiction portions are engaging, but that is really just the backdrop to a more fundamental story. The fictional author's comments on his own work were particularly interesting, especially as one attempts to figure out when he was talking from his own character, and when he was voicing the thoughts of Asimov contemplating his own place in literary history. As I wrote this review, my mind went over the events and I found myself appreciating the story even more. That is always a good sign, and"Gold"is definitely a story worth thinking about.』
『
Goldis the final and crowning achievement of the fifty-year career of science fiction's transcendent genius, the world-famous author who defined the field of science fiction for its practitioners, its millions of readers, and the world at large.
The first section contains stories that range from the humorous to the profound, at the heart of which is the title story, "Gold," a moving and revealing drama about a writer who gambles everything on a chance at immortality: a gamble Asimov himself made -- and won. The second section contains the grand master's ruminations on the SF genre itself. And the final section is comprised of Asimov's thoughts on the craft and writing of science fiction.
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Quality of the games) 『The final fantasy 8 copy was perfect, although a few minor scratches it was as i expected. The final fantasy 9 copy was not as expected. The disks were scratched, especially the first disk. It was not worth the price paid.』
(Mismatched version...) 『Got the correct game... but the version wasn't as displayed on the amazon page... i ordered for a normal version but it turned out to be a 'greatest hits' version...』
(Rightious) 『This collection brings back a lot of good memories. I forgot how much I had really loved them(and still do). Very, very satisfied.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (IN MY OPINION BEST FINAL FANTASY EVER) 『Im old school like that. I like old school Rpgs. I dont own new systems. I like NES SNES and sega genisis. I also like n64 that is the newist system i own. I love the old games. Dont play as much as I used to. though. But I love this game. I like the music. It brings me back to a simpler time.』
(awesome) 『the game that started it all is still one of the best around. even with the fancy graphic of today, you just can't replace good gameplay.』
(Legendary for it's time and still good today) 『A solid game all around, for it's time this game ruled the world so to speak today it's still got respect. For those who haven't play yes this is actually the first Final Fantasy in the seris and it is a Final Fantasy! If you don't want the classic verision try the Gameboy Advance verision it's good!』
(Don't Let the Primitive Technology Fool You...) 『Whether you've never played an 8 bit game before or you consider yourself an expert on the subject, it's very easy to underestimate the original Final Fantasy. Sure, the music, graphics, game design and battle interface were all cutting edge at the time, but the first thirty minutes of this game may not win you over right away.
I clearly recall beginning the game and finding it amusing, but somewhat dated and unimpressive. I started out on my mission, fighting enemies, building experience, purchasing better weapons, magic, and equipment, following suggestions from local villagers and, eventually, I got to Garland: the first big boss. After an impressive battle, he was defeated, and I smiled smugly, satisfied that I had overcome a major obstacle and gotten pretty far into this primitive adventure so quickly.
Then I crossed the bridge, and the opening credits rolled.
That experience defined FF1 for me. Every time you think you understand the structure, parameters, and limits of the game, from modes of travel to impassable land masses and dead end oceans, the rules change in the most fun ways possible. Canoes, ships, airships, undersea and above land levels, an ever expanding world map, robots and future technology (from the past), a gypsy market in the desert, a waterfall guarding a hidden entrance, a circle of wise men in a hidden clearing, and additional problems and challenges that pop up after you think you've done EVERYTHING you were supposed to do keep the game fresh and exciting throughout.
Finally, to those that have criticized FF1 for being too difficult, I must disagree. I have very little console RPG experience, yet my party never died, and I never spent time just trying to build experience before moving on to the next challenge. I beat the game while at Level 29 without a problem. Sometimes, it just takes a little strategy -- when to use heal spells versus heal potions, when to cure all hit points or just some, and when to let one character die so that the others may continue to live. I actually respect that the game requires you to plan like that. It makes the final victory more rewarding. My only advice would be to consult an online walk-through tutorial at certain points as there are a few confusing moments where you'll have no idea where to go next without a helpful clue. Also, stock up on those heal potions!
FF1 is an amazingly innovative game. It combines great design with an adventure that slowly and purposely unfolds in the most fun and exciting of ways. When you finally slap in that cartridge and give this old dinosaur a try, don't judge too quickly. You can be sure that it won't be long before the game starts shaking things up!』
(The start of it all) 『Final Fantasy is a true classic among RPG's. It is simplistic enough for anyone to pick up and enjoy, yet challenging enough to keep you coming back for multiple play-throughs.
The story for Final Fantasy is pretty run of the mill 4 warriors appear out of nowhere and are given the task of saving the world. That is about it. There are many non-playable characters to converse with throughout the and visiting towns is enjoyable.
The gameplay mechanics are a bit archaic but this adds to the challenge. For instance if two of your party memebers are swinging at the same enemy and the first player kills that enemy, the second player will swing at the blank space where the enemy was. This forces the player to really map out their moves.
You have many characters to choose from to fill up your party of four heroes, the combinations are practically limitless, make for some great replay value.
This is a great game that i would recommend to anyone who enjoys old school RPG's』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Cute and Fun, but Ultimately Mediocre.) 『First, let me explain why I bought this game. A long time ago, I played Chocobo Racing and really enjoyed the short story mode. I'd only wished it had been longer. So, I bought Chocobo's Dungeon 2, thinking it would have a better developed story and be a true RPG. Wrong! It was a hideously boring dungeon crawler that had even less story in it than the racing game. So, when I heard that Chocobo Tales was coming out, I hoped that this would be a true RPG with an excellent story revolving around the cute protagonist, Chocobo. Well, I was half right, it gets the cute (if overly simple) story down, but the gameplay just isn't up to par. Sigh, maybe someday Squeenix will get it just right...
Graphics (score 10/10): The graphics look very nice. Characters and backgrounds are bright and crisp. Plus, the characters are fully 3-D and still look good.
Music (score 8/10): Most of the music is remixed chocobo themes from the final fantasy games. They all sound quite catchy and upbeat, but there's only so much of it you can stand to listen to before you hit that volume button on your DS. Overall, however, music was handled very well and is pleasant enough.
Characters (score 8/10): Given the type of game this is, I didn't expect much character depth. Even so, the characters are handled pretty well given the simplicity of the story. Your main character, Choco, never says anything (the stereotypical silent protagonist, I suppose). However, everyone else is imbued with sufficient personality to make them likeable and even humorous despite their somewhat one-dimensional personalities. Normally, character personalities that are this simplistic (for example, Chubby chocobo likes food--end of character development) would merit a bad score from me, but given the overall simple, light-hearted feel of the game, it seems appropriate.
Story (score 8/10): Like the rest of this game, the storyline is pretty simple. An evil entity called Bebuzzu has been trapped in a book. After he is unintentionally released, he starts trying to take over the world, and Chocobo must stop him. Pretty simple stuff. Even so, this story is still better than the non-existent crap found in Chocobo's Dungeon 2, so I'm pleased. The story gets the job done, and even adds in a few small twists to keep things interesting, so I'm satisfied with it.
Battle System (score 6/10): I really wish there had been regular combat. Instead, the player is forced to take part in "card battles" with opponents. This wouldn't be so bad if the games weren't based largely on luck. You basically have a deck of cards, which you use in battle. You choose what cards go into the deck, but that's where control ends. When in battle, three cards randomly pop up from your deck, and you must choose one of the three to put into play. There's four sides on a card, and each one has either a sword, shield or empty icon on it. The sides on your card matches up with the opponent's , and if you have a sword icon matched to their nothing icon, then you do full damage. If the sword is against another sword, then you do half damage, if it's against a shield, you do no damage. This also works the other way around with the opponent's sword icons up against your shield, sword, etc. Anyway, my main complaint is that it's random which three cards goes into your hand, so it removes a great deal of strategy. It would've been better if you could choose which card to use and when to use it. In fact, I would've preferred regular turn-based combat with an attack, defend, item, etc. commands. I find the card games much more tedious than regular combat, and I'd really wish they hadn't used that system.
Gameplay (score 5/10): This is a bit of a catch-all category for me. Well, remember those card battles? The way you get cards is by winning numerous mini-games all over this game. If I didn't know any better, I would say this game's story was a flimsy excuse to release a game composed entirely of minigames. The vast majority of your time is spent playing mini-games that range from fun to irritating. I'm the sort of person who feels mini-games are better taking a back seat to the action (hence the name "mini" which implies that it should be a smaller part of the game). Unfortunately, 80% of Chocobo Tales is mini-games, which really gets old after awhile. I really wished they'd fleshed out the story with regular RPG conventions like dungeons, battles, leveling-up, etc. instead of mini-game after mini-game. Of course, the way the story is set up, you really can't get away from these mini-games as they are integral to the story. I guess what I'm trying to say is that playing endless mini-games gets really annoying after awhile. Other than that issue, the controls are very nicely done. You can move either with the stylus or D-pad, and the mini-games all controlled nicely. Good thing too, since you'll be playing alot of them (did I say that already?).
Overall (score 6/10): NOTE this score is not an average; it's my subjective overall score. This game really is very cute, and can be enjoyable on the first play-through. The major drawback, though, is that you may never make it through a second play-through since the game becomes rather boring after the first time. Trust me, I tried and just lost interest half-way through. Too bad, I was hoping this would be an awesome RPG starring my favorite Chocobo, but I guess I'll have to keep waiting for that (maybe Squeenix will release a good Chocobo RPG someday!). Anyway, if you can find this game for a good price (less than $20, I'd say), then it might be worth your time since it really is quite enjoyable on the first play-through. Just don't expect any replay value out of this one.』
(Fables you say? The only tall-tale here is this game being rated as good.) 『First thing I'll say about this title is don't purchase it for more than $10. There is charm in the game, but overall it doesn't make up for the overall recycled gameplay and just pure repetitiveness.
I am a huge fan of RPGs, I've played almost all the main series, and ventured into the more underground ones (Like Atelier Iris, Etrian Odyssey,&Atelier Iris.) Therefore, I am one mildly educated on the subject of RPGs and the Final Fantasy World.
Receiving this game, I thought it'd be a typical RPG with mini-game elements here and there. My god I was wrong, more like a collection of repeating uncreative mini-games. Think of this game as WarioWare boss battles that you repeat over&over to receive the best medal.
Yup, all the game is basically is mini-games mixed in with a horribly unrewarding battle system that just seems forced. 50% through the game I had experienced 4 battles. The battles seemed like they were thrown into the game just so they could please Final Fantasy fanatics. First complaint about the battles is they take seemingly forever, and are very unbalanced. The card concept of battles is awesome, but the way it was executed is just poor in this game, especially because animations consume 75% of the time in battle.
If you want a good card-based battle game pick up Baten Kaitos, 100 times the fun, 100 times the content. Anyways, back on topic to the mini-games. Basically, they're all boring games uncreative games that you've played before without cute chocobos.
The most creative one is ironically the first mini-game, where you race up the mountain as a turtle. The rest are "collect small sprite, avoid boss." or other very common games used in RPGs.
Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy this game. It's just not all that good. It's cliche mini-games mixed in with battles ruined by overanimation, the plot is good though, and the "I want to complete this mini-game and get the best medal on it so I get some battle card I'll never use" is also pretty fun.
Replayability? Zero in my opinion. I have yet to beat this game (or pick it up again to consider beating it.) but I am about 75% through. This counts for about 9 hours of gameplay, therefore if you pick this game up I'm guessing you'll get an easy 12-18 hours of gameplay depending on how much of a completionist you are.
Like I said, it's a good game, but there are many better others on the DS.
Plot 7/10: Seems pretty solid. Makes sense, typical "collect 4 crystals of various elements to save world and friends."
Gameplay 5/10: Mini-games are recycled from other games for sure, but they're not horrible, nor are they extremely boring. They'll entertain you. Receives a 5/10 because of the bad animations that make battles take FOREVER. No skip-animation in options either
Difficulty 7/10: Once again, it's extremely easy to progress the story. Literally anyone could do it. But why I give it a 7/10 is it does allow for "challanges" on mini-games. Silver which you can get after 3-4 playthroughs, and golds which have taken me 20-30 on some occasions.
Length 8/10: Pretty good length, doesn't seem overly long, and hasn't gotten boring really.
Graphics: 9/10 Another redeeming factor. Basically Final Fantasy III: DS graphics mixed with Paper Mario I graphics. 2D&3D mix in battles is nice.
36/50 = 72%
Buy, but dont pay more than 10 bucks.』
(review) 『this game was a bit boring and did not hold my attention. i ended up taking it in to a game exchange store very shortly after getting it.』
(Final Fantasy Games:) 『Rene` and I both have a DS. Him, black, and I a pink one. I had some unatural obsession with any game that has the wifi symbol on it and buying two coppies.. SO I would, and we would. Rene` really loved this game. He finished it as quickly as possible while I was struggling with the final boss in FF3. hah.. We wanted to card duel eachother.. :) fun times, good memories.
It is based on a book that was evil and sucked all the other books into some dark portal along with all of chocobos friends, and you have to save them by figuring out all the mysteries in the books.
This game consists of micro and minigames. Every time you make first place in a game of some sort (usually a race) you win either a silver or gold playing card so you can duel a boss. (if it's not a race, it's a timed game. Pretty fun though! )』
(Amazing game for any age) 『Being a young adult, when I first saw this game I thought it looked really cute but maybe a little more geared for kids. Wow was I ever wrong, and I'm really glad I chose to get it. Hands down this is my favorite DS game so far, and I haven't even finished it yet.
You play as a chocobo and can name yourself whatever you want. A friend of yours has you open this book he got, and it ends up stealing the souls of all your friends. You are then sent on a mission to go defeat this book/evil spirit and get all your friends back. More storyline develops afterwards that I won't spoil.
The thing I just LOVE about Chocobo tales is all the mini games. Most of the time I don't like mini games because they're annoying and not well made, but the ones in this game are very enjoyable. That's also pretty much the main focus of the game: jumping into pop-up story books and beating the mini game inside. Then the story proceeds and you learn more about the plot and what not. There's also a card game worked into the system, and normally I hate that because they make it too complex. But this one is very simple and fun!
There's nothing about this game that needs to be improved, and I can't really think of any cons at all, so I give it 5 stars for sure. A must have for anyone.』 『In Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales, you'll enter a fun and enchanting game world, from the Final Fantasy franchise. When a black magician brings a picture book onto the Chocobo farm, it unleashes the great devil Bebuzu. The farm gets sucked into its pages, where white&black magicians must stop Bebezu from reviving himself to full form.』
