Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Best OST game) 『I got no problem buying items on this website. Final Fantasy VII is one of my favorite video game because of its soundtrack. You should buy one if you like it!』
(Just as good as the game itself) 『I purchased this soundtrack after playing the game and was more than satisfied. As it's title says, all the music is original, and the length of every track is perfect. They're not too long, but not too short either.
This soundtrack is made up of 4 discs, which have around 20 tracks. The only thing I don't like about it is that the track listings aren't in english. Other than that, I think it's a spectacular soundtrack. I reccomend this for all Final Fantasy fans. 』
(Great souvenir of a fantastic game) 『I love this album, in fact the only problem with the Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack is undoubtedly it's primitive synthesized production values. Well, they are primitive compared to the soundtracks to FF8 onwards, but still a lot better than many other PSX game soundtracks out there. I need to get this in perspective though, as FF7 came out quite early in the PSX's history, and at that time, it was impossible to fit too much data on the discs, so the music had to be produced to rather lower specifications than may have been preferred.
This is not to say, however that it is not COMPOSED well, because in this department, it excels. More than any other Final Fantasy game since, you will hear fans continually praising the unforgettable themes that appeared in this adventure. Covering 4 discs, a lot of the emphasis is on industrial reactors, pollution, and war. Most of the music on disc one has a gritty, "battle alert" feel to it, with the actual random battle music itself being the best of all, a terrific rollercoaster of fanfares and urgent sounding riffs that make it still my favourite battle theme of the whole series. The music of the slums and the decaying towns continues for most of discs 1 and 2, although disc 2 begins with the famous world map theme, sometimes also listed as the "FF7 Main Theme". This is a great, airy, reflective track that really puts you right back in the game no matter how long it's been since you played it.
But when I play this album, I'm always in a hurry to get to disc 3 because it opens with one of my favourite tracks of all, which is "Valley of the Fallen Star". I think this slow moving, tribal beat-lead tune is the most evocative of all the game's location themes, it so aptly matches the setting that it accompanies, plus the reprise (used in the game when Red XIII discovers the truth about his father) underscores such an intensely emotional moment that it gives me goosebumps every time I play it. However, most fans of the game have been united in their vote for the most emotional track of all, and that is, of course, "Aeris' Theme" . Composer Nobuo Uematsu can surely be proud of himself in creating a piece of music that is imprinted on so many people minds. Of course, it accompanies the part of the game that EVERYONE always speaks about when they reminisce over it's impact, so that's of little surprise! This achingly sad composition has taken on almost legendary status now among fans, which threatens to swamp it's humble simplicity, but once you hear it you'll know why.
On to disc 4 then, and by the time you've battled your way up to the hardest parts of the game you'll have heard plenty of contrasting music, including the casino style "Gold Saucer" theme, the sunny calypso lilt of "Costa Del Sol" and the cartoonish cuteness of the Chocobo themes. Disc 4 contains the tracks that accompany the most challenging battles of all, and the final "point of no return" in the game leads you into a fantastic clutch of musical themes. There's only really one that has gone down in history though, and that's "One Winged Angel", the music to the last battle of all. Almost shocking in intensity when heard in the setting of playing the game, this doom-laden track has but one message in it's strident chords..."You are SOOOOOO Dead!". A demonic sounding theme for an apocalypse is how I would describe it...once heard never forgotten.
I only hope buyers of this CD have first heard the music it contains while playing the game. To experience "Aeris' Theme" or "One Winged Angel" on a CD player without knowing first what they mean as part of the game experience would be a tragedy. Although that said, they both do stand up as impressive compositions in their own right. Final Fantasy 7 fans are so fortunate to have a soundtrack of this quality available...it means revisiting the game can be done at any moment just by playing the music, and the excellence of Nobuo Uematsu's vision means this CD has been a firm favourite with fans around the world ever since.』
(Might be worse if you haven't played the game) 『If you haven't played the game, then the music might not be as enjoyable, making a 3.8/5. It all depends, but it's good no matter what. At the time the game came out, this was Nobuo Uematsu's best work (now it is defeated by multiple other soundtracks of his). However, its impressive quality and sound remain excellent. All the tracks are midi-style (thus reducing their score), but are still very good. One problem with this soundtrack is that only half of the tracks are actually something you would want to actively listen to. The rest are boring or poorly written fillers. The good half, however, range from good to awesome. These are some of the best pieces of the soundtrack: "One-Winged Angel": AWESOME! This is easily one of the greatest video-game pieces ever written (defeated mainly by its future variations), and one of the greatest pieces in general. Despite being synthesized, the instruments sound almost real, giving this orchestral/choral song much more impact than the others. Speaking of the choir, it sounds awesome and powerful. They proclaim the villain's name between the lines of latin; "Sephiroth!" they proclaim, "Sephiroth!" My heart started pounding and I could feel the power billowing up in me the first few times of hearing it (it was on surround-sound speakers at a pretty decent volume, but still. That's a queue for you to do the same!). "Cid's Theme": It's the theme of a spitting, hairy, redneck; his good, emotional side, that is! It sounds cool, powerful, and emotional. Sort of orchestral and military-sounding. "J-E-N-O-V-A": This piece is hard to fit into any category, but it sounds electronic, and sort of dramatic and desparate (sort of). It's just cool, trust me. "Special Battle/Still More Fighting": Also hard to categorize, this piece has some VERY fast keyboard work, and an interesting upbeat, jazzy (a little) sound. A great, though different, battle piece. "Credits": This wannabe orchestral piece combines multiple themes from the game to make a very epic and dramatic piece. Very well-written, and an excellent close to the game. Though midis, this soundtrack is still cool, tearful, and powerful. Nobuo Uematsu proved himself as a professional musician with this work. Definitely worth the buy (though there are better things for less. "FFVII: Advent Children" soundtrack, "FFX Original Soundtrack," to name a couple)』

(If I could only have one soundtrack.) 『This is the only soundtrack that matters when it comes to final fantasy, the best hands down!』
(Great VG soundtrack then, still great now...) 『I own this soundtrack (albeit with a different cover) for Final Fantasy VIII. Nobuo Uematsu shows his greatness with the variety of tracks. "Liberi Fatali" shows magnificence with both a full orchestra and a chorus singing in Latin. "Ami" shows a sentimental side when the game's characters reflect on their childhood. "Silence and Motion" is simply electronic music at its best when the characters visit Esther.
Songs from this soundtrack are always played whenever a symphony does "Final Fantasy." Listen to the tracks and you will understand why.』

BATTLE SCENE (FF1): Has some okay guitar parts, but strays too much from the source material.
CLASH ON THE BIG BRIDGE (FF2): Overall, I liked this one better than the previous track--except for the awful "Pseudo-Sax" that plays a little more than halfway through the song.
FORCE YOUR WAY (FF8): There was a part during this song where I simply couldn't help but wonder, "What on earth are they doing to those keyboards?" It sounded like they were just randomly banging keys. Stays pretty faithful to the original.
BATTLE, SCENE II (FF2): Has nice use of bass for the intro. Pseudo-sax makes an appearance again, but not as bad as on Battle Scene.
DECISIVE BATTLE (FF6): Argh! Pseudo-Sax ruins the song . . . again!
BATTLE THEME (FF6): Slower than the original. Okay.
J-E-N-O-V-A (FF7): Has an odd Drum&Bass/Jungle intro. Same as original in terms of pacing and sound, with few embellishments. Spacey-ending. Best song so far, but still not great.
THOSE WHO FIGHT FURTHER (FF7): Starts off with . . . a COWBELL! You can almost see Will Ferrell banging on his cowbell to this one. Faithful to the original, good speed, few embellishments. No pseudo-sax to ruin it.
DANCING MAD (FF6): My favorite song from Final Fantasy 6. Very similar to the original--at times I don't think they changed anything at all. They could have used real choirs instead of synthesized ones.
FIGHT WITH SEYMOUR (FF10): Very close to original, which is a good thing, because the original was really good to begin with. Even the short keyboard part towards the end that was pretty good.
OVERALL IMPRESSION: This could have been a great album--they had some great source material to work with. Where I think they went wrong was in deciding how they wanted the songs to sound. Evidently, they were trying for a heavy metal sound for the songs, which begs the following question: When's the last time you heard a Heavy Metal band use a saxophone in their gig?! In all the years I've listened to Metal I've heard accordions, flutes, organs, keyboards, synthesizers, bagpipes and other obscure and traditional instruments--but never a saxophone. For the love of hamsters, leave the Pseudo-Sax OUT! I would have been content with this album if they had only left out the jazz and played a little more COWBELL!』
(A little too awesome.) 『Get your gaming blood boiling with epic final fantasy rock. This album is not for everyone; lesser gamers might suffer severe injury at the awesomeness that is the black mages. If you love final fantasy you also love the black mages and this cd.』
(Ordered and Never got) 『I ordered this fully knowing what it was. Thought hey good price and it will be here fairly soon. Great for the FF fan. But the seller I ordered it from NEVER sent it to me!! Even after a email asking where the heck it was at! DO NOT order from "Brown Bag Productions" they suck.』
(Overall, a great album) 『If you're a fan of old school final fantasy then you will love this album. Better than the second black mages album in my opinion, but there are a few tracks I was disappointed with. I really enjoyed hearing the tracks from the older games in the series (1, 2, 6,) since those were the games that originally got me hooked on final fantasy. Dancing mad was awesome, as was the other battle themes from six. Those three tracks alone make this album worthy of my collection. The only two tracks I was somewhat disappointed with were tracks seven (JENOVA) and ten (Fight With Seymour). I think they should have dropped those two tracks and picked some tracks from final fantasy 4 instead. But overall, it's an awesome album and I recommend it to any final fantasy fan!』
(two cents) 『I bought this and their second album one day by chance and absolutely fell in love with it. Being a fan of the Final fantasy games helps a lot and I have some of the game sound tracks and hearing them do it was really good I couldn't believe that no one told me about them sooner! if you like the Final fantasy games and the music to them i highly recommend you get this!
And that's my two cents!』 『Japanese game soundtrack featuring Battle Music from Final Fantasies I-X. The tracks were all arranged hard-rock style by Nobuo Uematsu himself. 2003.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Cropped version!) 『It doesn't seem so long ago that when movies on VHS were cropped on the left and right to fit 4:3 screens, people were indignant over losing a third or more of the original image. Producers responded with letterbox format, which then consisted of adding black bars at the top and bottom to preserve the entire original image.
Now for DVD release, older TV shows are cropped at the top and bottom so the original 4:3 image will fit 16:9 screens. Sometimes they now call this letterboxing! Where is the indignation? Why are there so many five-star ratings on Amazon for the V miniseries without mention of how the image was mutilated?
In fact when the first season of Route 66 was released with the top and bottom cropped, there was much indignation, and the producers responded by re-releasing the season in its original format.
I hope fans of V and other great shows will think about this when posting reviews and ratings. The more people give these versions low ratings and state why, the more likely that producers will do the right thing and stop cropping these shows.』
(V) 『this DVD brought back so many memories for me! i remember watching the original mini-series and tv show back in the 80s and being obsessed with them. i remembered so many details while watching these DVDs, it was like i had just seen the episodes a few weeks ago - not 25 years ago!
a MUST BUY for anyone who was a fan of tv in the 80s. :)』
(cardboard case) 『I love the series, but there is nothing final in this battle. You still have to purchase yet another video to make the series end. I did not like how the case is cupboard and not plastic like the rest of the normal dvd movies.』
(V _ Final Battle) 『Fun jolt to the past. The 80's version of high tech is sure to give you a chuckle. Great and memorable characters including the creepy Robert Englund as a goofy lovable alien. The plots are predictable but still fun to watch. The lingo and wardrobe is definitely 80's. The cast is huge so you are almost guaranteed to find a favorite. With the new series getting made now is a great time to get re-familiar with the show.』
(Once you walk out that door, there's no turning back.) 『In "V: The Miniseries" we see a band of unlikely brothers forge together to stop an indestructible group of aliens determined to rid the world of water and subsequently transform the human race into a combo meal at McDonald's. The aliens eat fuzzy creatures, they like to copulate with humans, and their voices cannot be trusted, yet this group of rebels continues forward. Half homage to past science fiction films, and half an allegory of the events surrounding WWII, "V: The Miniseries" wasn't perfect, but it provided hours of nostalgic entertainment. Now, with "V: The Final Battle", the gloves are thrown off, the symbolic references are destroyed, and the game is transformed into merely a battle between human and alien. It is about resistance, standing up for beliefs, and plenty of fictitious science all rolled into three hours. Our band of outsiders is down, but not finished. They deliver several swift blows to the alien objective and finally one "final battle" that leaves doors unopened and plot holes uncovered. "V: The Final Battle" was a swift ending, but where it built onto action, it lacked that panache that the original episodes did. "The Final Battle" assumed that characters were already developed, and instead of taking a humanistic direction, director Richard Heffron placed his bets on the special effects. This was a completely different ending to a decently sharp beginning.
Heffron isn't Kenneth Johnson, and it is obvious that this is a second part to an idea, not a continuation. Not only have the overall themes changed, but the influx of special effects has lead us down the path of horrid dialogue, randomly placed action scenes (i.e. the fistfight over the powder), and the lack of developed storylines. Johnson may have taken longer to get to the point, but at least there was a point. Heffron went in a completely, some may say bold, direction - but it didn't work. Investing over five hours, one could easily demand a conclusion, but none could be found here. The introduction of Elizabeth (the child of an alien and human) was exciting, but nothing happened. The idea of quick growth was introduced, but then easily forgotten - same as Mike's son being changed as a spy. Again, another strong and vexing idea that was mentioned, and then forgotten. It was these smaller nuances that seemed to be clearer in "The Final Battle" than in the original.
In addition to the lackluster plot, the acting seemed to be progressively getting worse. Our original characters were not the same as in this final set - the excitement seemed to have dissipated and with too many small story arch's never being fully developed, it was no wonder our characters seemed to be lacking that pioneering gumption. Marc Singer's Mike was more a meathead than a leader, the annoying child who gave birth to the spawn seemed more annoying than helpful - and Ham seemed to be unreasonably angrier. This wasn't the same set we stopped with on the miniseries. The resistance was going to win; it was inevitable, so why did it have to be so mismatched to get there.
What was kept? What worked? It was somewhat like that feeling of seeing "Star Wars" for the first time. When the villains finally get it, one cannot help but feel that moment of excitement swell in the throat, but there needed to be more. The alien baby is worth the price of the DVD alone, a cross between originality and a "Ghoulie", it provided at least an hour of laughter. The fist fight between Ham and Mike seemed reminiscent of the film "They Live", so it received some points for that, but overall it just felt cheap. The sets were bigger, the acting was weaker, and the money was tighter. While you should watch this after "The Miniseries", don't expect the same quality.
Grade: **½ out of ***** 』 『Though followers of current science fiction television series may dismissV: The Final Battleas a quaint relic from the pre-computer animation days, the six-hour miniseries about an alien invasion of Earth was a ratings juggernaut for NBC in 1984 and should still provide some entertainment for hard-bitten devotees and fans of '50s-style sci-fi.The Final Battlepicks up four months after the shock conclusion of the 1983 prequel miniseries, with a small group of humans known as the Resistance struggling to convince their fellow humans that a fleet of seemingly friendly visitors from space are in fact bent on world domination.
Executive producer Kenneth Johnson (who oversaw most aspects of the first series) only supervised the sequel's script (which underwent several changes before its airing), and the writing occasionally suffers due to the lack of his attention. But the series still delivers its share of action and intrigue, as well as one showstopping gruesome moment involving the birth of interspecies twins. Acting is again a stumbling block, with leads Marc Singer and Faye Grant as bland as any performers from the American International Pictures stable; character actor Michael Ironside makes the strongest impression as a tough Resistance member, and a pre-Freddy Krueger Robert Englund is amusing as a kind-hearted alien. The miniseries was followed by an inevitable weekly series featuring most of the same cast, which was demolished in the ratings byDallas, but a faithful Resistance-like following remains to this day.--Paul Gaita』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (does not age well) 『7.9 THE FILM ITSELF 6.9 VISUALS 7.5 SOUND 7.0 PACKAGING 8.4 EXTRAS
Remembering that Final destination came out in 2000, it's easy to see how old the film looks - especially on blu-ray. But even more so, the dialogue, the some what hammy / cheesy acting and just how young the cast is makes you understand you are not watching an Oscar award winning film.
Final Destination is an above average thriller / horror flick that deals with a young man who has visions of death. When he escapes the "death" that was imminent, the count down is on until death "catches up" to those who escaped. It's an interesting premise and it's handled decently. But after 9 years, it's certainly not the most engaging of stories, it sometimes doesn't really hold your attention and the characters feel cookie-cutter at best. But if you're looking for something different and slightly entertaining, you can do a lot worse than Final Destination.
VISUALS 6.9 There's no reason this should be bought on blu-ray. It looks okay at best, but for visual nuts they will certainly call this "horrible". From the bad haircuts that are really shown well here to the blotchy skin / makeup, some movies just should be left on DVD. Of course, being 9 years old doesn't help, but I've seen movies had 20 years ago that look stunning compared to this. It seems like no remastering has been done here at all.
SOUND 7.5 It's good, but nothing special. And after listening to the entire "isolated score" feature, I'm even more less impressed with this than I originally was. The rest of the sound - dialogue and explosions - are better, but still, nothing that makes you crank up the surround sound or anything.
PACKAGING 7.0 No main menu, the movie just starts with a menu bar that pops up on the bottom. The cover kind of resembles a cheesy teen-horror / action flick, and that's exactly what the film is.
EXTRAS 8.4 Two commentary tracks, one of which is really good (the one with the crew) while the other is average at best (the one with some of the cast members). There is a feature that is commentary by the composer as the entire score is presented over the dialogue. I never listened to one of these before, and this was not a good first selection for a film to do so on. The score just isn't that interesting here and the dialogue is "blah" at best.
"The Perfect Souffle: Testing Final Destination" is an inyteretsing feature I have never seen again. The creators talk about what a testing piece does for the film and what changes after it. Kind of interesting, but glad more films don't have this as it won't be watched by many fans.
"Premonitions" is an obnoxiously cheesy piece about a woman who believes she has the power to see when people are dead or in danger, and that she can see the future. Maybe if she didn't try to force her kids to believe it (that's how it seems anyway) it wouldn't be so bad, but this just seems like a family that will be in the news one day for joining a cult or something.
Then there are 3 deleted scenes that show a radically different ending. These are good because it shows just how far off the ending was, but they're bad because this ending is a horrible decision. So I'm glad they changed it and this is a very interesting original ending.
FINAL VERDICT Final Destination is a decent film that offers something new to a tired genre, but it certainly hasn't aged well in the 9 years since it was released. The special features are impressive, but aside from the crew commentary and the shocking alternate ending there isn't much substance here.
8.1/10 "IMPRESSIVE"』
(great horror that deserves the many positive ratings and reviews) 『The first Final Destination is actually a really good horror film. It's significantly better than the third Final Destination movie (that's the one with the carnival and roller-coaster ride segment, right? I like this one a LOT more).
The only flaw with this film is that the first 20 minutes start off rather predictable, but give the story some time to develop and I believe you'll find yourself really getting into it.
Maybe it's just me, but I found it kind of disrespectful that they'd keep playing John Denver's classic "Rocky Mountain High" throughout the film. The song plays whenever something bad is about to happen.
It's disrespectful because, as you probably know, John Denver lost his life in an airplane accident a few years before this movie was created and released. The writers should have honestly picked a different song.
Now about the storyline. Are you the kind of person that believes you can cheat death? If so, do you believe if you happen to cheat death that death will rear its head shortly after in ANOTHER attempt to take your life? These are the kind of serious and curious questions that many of us probably ask ourselves, and these same questions are the reason this kind of horror is a few steps above the generic slasher kind (and honestly, slasher flicks are the kind of horror stories have been done to the point of exhaustion by this point).
I often wonder about these questions personally, though obviously it's important not to let these questions interfere with enjoying your life. But it makes you wonder exactly what your destiny is and when it will happen, doesn't it?
Anyway, great horror suspense.』
(Extremely Underrated Sci-Fi Movie) 『Final Destination has an interesting concept. Death hunts people who overcame his plan for them. A script originally written for X-Files, it is intelligent, cerebral, and witty. It is not your average "kill-teens" flick. Each teen has their own personality and you can actually tell the difference between all of them. You sympathize with the teens and hope they don't die; instead of rooting for the killer (in this case Death itself). The teens have actual intelligence and are not idiots. The cliffhanger ending is truly excellent. Among the Final Destination series, this is the best. Final Destination 2 (second best) suffered (in my opinion) from a relatively happy, hopeful ending compared to this cliffhanger ending; the new life concept seemed too hopeful. The Final Destination (third best) was relatively good but suffered from "show everybody die and not leave mystery" syndrome. Final Destination 3 suffered from stupid characters who no one cares about syndrome.』
(Useless, dumb POS movie) 『As they are, horror movies are for the most part useless and have no cultural value at all unless you're some kind of sadist. Final Destinations 1, 2 and 3 aren't so much horror as they are safety films that show what happen if you don't put safety first. People are decapitated, suffocated, immolated, defenestrated, and the only lesson we learn from this movie is... they shouldn't make a sequel... but they did anyway, 2 of them! Then they're making this new dumb Final Destination movie, with the word "The" in front of it as though they are trying to have more respect for the English language somehow by making the title a complete sentence on its own.
Don't watch Final Destination. You'll only destroy your mind and your dignity.』
(No Cheating The Reaper) 『The "Final Destination" series started off with this low-key and middle-budget suspense film. Cast with a bunch of young actors in a twist on the old slasher formula, except this time, the mad killer is old Grimm himself. It makes this movie a minor classic, in that there's never anyone chasing these kids through the woods (so to speak). You don't need to set up a story about the killer that got killed by the angry mob or tormented by nasty classmates. Death doesn't need that kind of contraption, Death just is.
Of the actors, only Sean William Scott (aka "Stifler") and Heroes' Ari Larter have moved up from this series starter. Then one of the kids - Devon Sawa - has a premonition that gets him and six classmates plus one teacher booted from the flight. Said plane then explodes upon take-off. This team of cast-offs realize they've cheated death...or did they? Seems Death's Design isn't to crazy about being disrupted, and comes back for the stragglers. This is where "Final Destination" slips back into formula, and became more inventive in the way the teens get killed off. This does sort of make FD a precursor to the Saw series, in that the kills had to be elaborately set up and executed (har har).
Even with the beach-blanket-bingo of the FD plotline, the suspense is real. Who goes next and who beats the reaper? The concept was so successful that the Big D came back for two more sets of teens (Final Destination 2 and Final Destination 3) with a 4th in the works with little variance in the formula.』 『While hardly a spiritual upgrade of the slasher film, this high-concept teen body-count thriller drops hints ofThe Sixth Senseinto the smart-aleck sensibility ofScream. Helmed byX-Filesveteran James Wong, who cowrote the screenplay with longtime creative partner Glen Morgan,Final Destinationis an often entertaining thriller marked by an unsettling sense of unease and scenes of eerie imagery. It suffers, however, from a schizophrenic tone and a frankly ludicrous premise. A high school Cassandra, Alex Browning (Devon Sawa ofIdle Hands), wakes from a preflight nightmare and panics when he's convinced the plane is doomed. His ruckus bumps seven passengers from the Paris-bound plane, which immediately explodes into a fireball on takeoff, but fate hasn't finished with these lucky few and, one by one, death claims them. Wong brings such a funereal tone to these early scenes of survivor's guilt and inevitable doom that the already far-fetched film threatens to veer into unplanned absurdity. Thankfully, the tale loosens up with a playful morgue humor: one of the victims winds up the splattered punch line to a grim joke and elaborate Rube Goldbergesque chains of cause and effect become inspired spectacles of destruction.Final Destinationis a pretty silly thriller when it takes itself seriously, and the filmmakers play fast and loose with their own rules of fate, but once they stick their tongues firmly in cheek, the film takes off with a screwy interpretation of the domino effect of doom.--Sean Axmaker』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Great SciFi) 『A modern aircraft carrier is somehow transported back to December 7, 1941, the day the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Very well done film. A family oriented film.』
(Time warp) 『This is a very interesting film and it deals with time travel. Imagine this..you're on one of the most powerful aircraft carriers of present day and you get whooshed back in time to just before the attack on Pearl Harbor. I won't spoil it for future viewers, I'll just say I really enjoyed it! Kirk Douglas and Michael Sheen are excellent and add their own quirks to the film. A must see. What would you do??』
(Great Sci Fi) 『This has traditionally been on of my favorites. An older film this boasts a very good cast and a what if scenario, if history could be changed. If you like military films and Sci Fi you may well enjoy this film.』
(One for a remake) 『The Final Countdown has always been one of my favourite what if movies. I purchased it on Blue Ray and was surprised at how well it turned out. Most of the time when they take an older movie like this and put them on BR and you watch them on a large screen TV 50 inches or better it is still like watching a VHS tape on a big screen. The BR Copy I bought was like a VHS upgrade to DVD. By no means as clear as BR should be but much much better than I expected to get. Hats off to the remastering team that did the work on these disks. BR and DVD.
Lastly. Would it not be cool for a good director and production team to remake this movie. And not ruin it with PC garbage or turning it in to a global warming commercial, or turning it in to a liberal anti war propaganda reel. Wouldn't it be cool if it was done right with today's effects?

(Modern Classic) 『This movie has always been a favorite of mine. The special effects were good enough for the time and still do not take away from a very entertaining movie. The Blu-ray clarity has added a wonderful aspect to all the flight operations. This movie was made the cooperation of the Navy and everything is actual footage and not computer generated. The F-14s and the Confererate Air Force Zeros performed amazing maneuvers together. The cast is first rate and made the movie work. As an added enjoyment, watch the interviews with the "Jolly Rogers". Naval Aviators always have something fun to say and don't worry about being politically correct.』 『With a tantalizing "what-if?" scenario and a respectable cast of Hollywood veterans,The Final Countdownplays like a grand-scale episode ofThe Twilight Zone. It's really no more than that, and time-travel movies have grown far more sophisticated since this popular 1980 release, but there's still some life remaining in the movie's basic premise: What if a modern-era Navy aircraft carrier--in this case the real-life nuclear-poweredU.S.S. Nimitz--was caught in an anomalous storm and thrust 40 years backwards in time to the eve of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor? Will the ship's commander (Kirk Douglas) interfere with history? Will the visiting systems analyst (Martin Sheen) convince him not to? Will a rescued senator from 1941 (Charles Durning) play an unexpected role in the future of American politics? Veteran TV director Don Taylor doesn't do much with the ideas posed by this potentially intriguing plot; he seems more interested in satisfying aviation buffs with loving footage of F-14 "Jolly Roger" fighter jets, made possible by the Navy's generous cooperation. That makesThe Final Countdowna better Navy film than a full-fledged time-travel fantasy, but there's a nice little twist at the end, and the plot holes are easy to ignore. James Cameron would've done it better, but this popcorn thriller makes an enjoyable double-bill withThe Philadelphia Experiment.--Jeff Shannon』

(NO ZACK ANIMATED FILM!) 『I have seen this movie like a 1000 times, it is beautifully made, if not a bit confusing plot wise (I have played the game like 1000 times too, so my confusion is not for lack of understanding of the FFVII universe)
But this is not what this review is about. I am reviewing the BluRay and lack of respect to us fans. I got the BluRay today and was VERY disappointed to find out the Zack animated short is not included AGAIN! I thought this thing would have EVERYTHING. If Transformers' 2 BluRay can have 6 hours of special features... well. Instead we only get the new Danzel short and a disappointingly short list of the same stuff we got on the DVD... no Zack short though, to me this feels like an excuse to squeeze more money out of us.
I previously bough the two disc DVD, in which of course, since there was a SPECIAL "Limited Edition Collector Set" whatever they call it, edition coming out at some point (which sold/sales for $49.99) wasn't included either. It was only reserved for those who forked out the cash. I thought, that by now, SquareEnix know that they got just about all they can from the DVD sales, so they should have included BOTH shorts in the BluRay plus whatever other incredible footage and revised scenes they claim to have, is not lack of space (neither was on the DVD) is just pure disregard for the fans who follow them even though they are the KINGS of delays and overrated hype. It disappoints me to see whoever decides what was to be included in the special features (or not), holding out on us fans like this. What, are they going to release a BluRay special edition with some fancy cover and charge $100 bucks for it just to get a 20 minute short film!? Do they really expect us to buy every release they put out there? I Guess I should just buy the most expensive one and shut up, but that is not the point.
I rate this a 3 because the movie is enjoyable and you do get the 1080p HD experience, but that's it. If you have the DVD, save your money, or buy another BluRay you don't have...like Transformers 2 lol.

(Now It's a Movie) 『I kept track of the evolution of this movie. At first it was just going to be some 45 minute OAV, then what i call a Disney-length movie (about 72 minutes), and I never took it seriously as a movie. I thought it was just a sad attempt at making money off the fans. Then they extended it out to a full-length movie, and i got excited. I saw it. It was a fun ride, but it kinda left me dazed and confused. I knew the story of FF7 (though i had never finished the game), at least enough to know what was going on in general, but this story seemed like an excuse for the action that took up more than half the movie. It was rushed, the whole movie looked very gray and depressing, the transitions were very rough, and a bunch of other small nitpicky things annoyed me. I think i gave the original cut 5 stars at the time, but in retrospect, it was more of a 4. High marks for the animation being far beyond what we get in America for direct-to-DVD, and for the action being so wonderfully insane that it made my eyes tired.
This release deals with the big issue that kept the original cut from being a real movie and not just a movie for FF7 fans. The story. They really fleshed it out, and instead of trying to pick up where the game left off and continue that story, the additions have served to finally give this its own story (and one that fits the title much better). And like any decent movie based on a story told in another media (Serenity), you don't have to know what happened before, but there are obviously things that will be more significant to those that do, but mostly in a nostalgic sense. The pacing is also a lot better, so it doesn't feel so rushed.
They've added more than just talking though. Many of the action sequences have been extended and revamped, including the final duel (which definitely pushes this above the PG-13 rating of the original cut). There are a few more location shots here and there which are easy to miss, but help with the pacing. And this cut seemed more colorful. It's still pretty gray, but things like Cloud's shirt looking blue, and Vincent's cape now being bright red seemed to pop out at me. It also seems like the characters actually look beaten, bruised, and dirty during the fights, and i don't remember it being done quite so obviously before.
The only thing that bugged me about this is that it's only on Blu-Ray (i just got a PS3, so i finally got to see this) and that you can tell how old some of the sequences are (early in the movie's development, after they decided to do a full-length movie, new footage for Complete). But that's because they've been working on this for so long. I noticed that in the original cut. But unless you're as visually picky as me, it won't bug you too much.
So with all the additions, big and small, and even with it's shortcomings, Advent Children is finally a real movie to me. And it now earns a full 5 stars from me beyond all doubt.』

And the answer is: it certainly helps. But even complete novices (i.e., most parents) in theFinal Fantasyworld will find some entertainment in its wealth of fantasy-based action, and the animation never fails to astonish. Picking up two years after an epic battle between the forces of good (represented by brooding soldier Cloud) and evil (Cloud's former general, Sephiroth),FFVIIopens in the devastated city of Midgard, whose youthful occupants suffer from a ghastly disease known as Geostigma. A trio of brothers arrives with what appears to be a cure for the plague, but their gesture conceals a more sinister purpose: to revive Sephiroth and bring about the end of the world. Cloud and his companions must once again rise to the occasion to stop the siblings and the revived Sephiroth from unleashing total destruction. Complex and self-referential to the point of occasional incomprehension,Final Fantasy VIIwill definitely be most appreciated by fans of the game series, but if others can look past the numbing dialogue and frenetic action (which is a bit too intense for very young children), the film offers a carefree and action-packed viewing experience. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The Greatest Superhero Film Of Our Time.) 『When is a movie more than a movie? When it can transcend the very genre it's in and becomes an event, something that can cause people to think, to talk, to debate, to embrace it so much you feel you need to see it again and again because you feel you missed something the other ten times you saw it. "Gone with the Wind", "The Wizard of Oz", "Star Wars", "The Lord of the Rings" films....all great event films. Add Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" to this list. As a lifelong fan of comic book superheroes, there are quite a few that i've taken to my heart: Superman, Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, X-Men,the Hulk, etc, etc. I've always loved Batman. Even through the numerous comics, which i still read to this day, the cartoons, even the campy 60s tv series, as well Tim Burton's great, dark reimagining of the mythos in the late 80s, Batman remains one of my all-time favorites. What Nolan has created with "The Dark Knight" cant truly be put into a few, simple sentences. Impossible. This film is one of the few true definitions of a masterpiece. It's intelligent, cold, unrelenting, extremely dark and at times disturbing and it's these adjectives that, for me, make it perfect. In the brilliant "Batman Begins", Nolan dissected and broke down the origin of The DC Comics vigilante, giving us a glimpse of the very twisted, emotional elements that drove one man to assume the identity of a creature of the night. He presented this as a character study of a man, seemingly normal on the outside, with wealth, power, and influence, yet tortured, driven, disturbed, trying to find a way to unleash his demons upon those who live to choose to break the law and destroy the moral fabric of "society". In "The Dark Knight", we go a few levels further....into the very bowels of HELL. This time, Batman struggles not just with the questionable choices he has made to protect Gotham City, with many people divided over how they feel about his presence, he also must face a new criminal who spreads anarchy and uncontrolled chaos all over town, the Joker. Now, we all know much has been written and said about the late Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker....BUT HE'S SOOOO GODDAMN BRILLIANT!!!! This is the Joker the way he should be portrayed. As much as i loved Jack Nicholson's Joker from Burton's '89 film, hes a punk compared to what Ledger created. Ledger's Joker is cold, calculating evil in its purest form....a man so unfeeling, so depraved, so demonic...he doesnt commit crimes for reward, notoriety, or what we'd consider intimate pleasure; he does because he simply wants to, plain and simple. He sees the world as a place to be broken and manipulated, consequences be damned. Scary, aint it? Think of the killers of Columbine, or V-Tech, even the Unabomber. Even Satan. No conscience. Evil for evil. Ledger won a very deserved posthumous Oscar for his work. The great Christian Bale is the ultimate Batman for our time. Driven, dark, cold-blooded but not without a sense of honor. He digs deeper into the psychology of Bruce Wayne, creating a portrait of someone fighting a war he might never win, a war that creates more demons and more pain than he can stop, yet doesnt give in to the monsters he opposes. Bale and Ledger are magnificent together. As great as they are, its the supporting performances that help them shine. Overall, theres not a bad performance from anyone, AT ALL. Only the best caliber of actors dominate this film. Gary Oldman's Detective James Gordon is a picture of powerful moral conviction and simple passion as he stands by Batman in the fight against crime; Michael Caine's Alfred is the deep, fatherly, yet caring voice of no-nonsense reason to Wayne/Batman; Maggie Gyllenhall makes a more intense Rachel Dawes than Katie Holmes; Morgan Freeman is dignity personified as Lucius Fox. Special mention should be made, though, for Aaron Eckhart, who plays D.A. Harvey Dent/Two Face. Like Batman and Gordon, he wants to wipe out crime in Gotham City, yet he suffers from a fatal flaw: he's idealistic. Its this flaw that the Joker will exploit and twist and ultimately damage, and it leads to Dent becoming Two Face, a scarred, deranged, hopeless man broken and twisted almost as much the Joker himself. There are no easy answers in this film, with its nihilistic view of good and evil and how sometimes, even good men can be pushed to their moral limits. Thats what i loved about this film. Nothing is simple, nothing is easy, and isnt that the way life is? Films about superheroes are a mixed breed: some are great, some not. I love the original Superman w/Christopher Reeve, and Spiderman, and Bryan Singer's X-Men, yet "Dark Knight" is, to me, the epic for our troubled times. Intelligent, huge, well written and acted. Director Christopher Nolan takes his place among the newest generation of filmmakers who dont treat their audiences like simple-minded children. A powerful film from a powerful visionary.』
(Brilliance) 『I cannot say enough about the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan. The combination of the acting, mise-en-scen, and cinematography all amalgamate to provide the viewer with spectacular artistic images, excellent portrayals of characteristic ideologies, and as well as a thrilling psychological plot. The acting led by Christian Bale and Heath Ledger is only to be followed by an outstanding all star cast including Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and Aaron Eckhart. Bale continues his role as Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman for the second time after his initial success in Batman Begins. No matter how great of a performance Christian Bale put out there for the audience, his acting will forever be overshadowed by that of Heath Ledger who died shortly after the making of the film, and thus this movie will forever be known as "the role that killed Heath." Christopher Nolan and Heath worked tremendously together capturing the essence of the half serial killer, half chaotic sociopath adding tremendous depth and complexity to the Joker not seen in the original comics. The only weak point in this cast in my opinion was Maggie Gyllenhaal who replaced Katie Holmes from the previous film. She looked old and out of touch with the whole Bruce Wayne and Rachael Dawes typical comic love affair, but simply their chemistry on stage did not coincide. The Mise-en-scen of The Dark Knight refers to everything on stage (the props, sets, costumes, and acting), and was mainly the brainchild of Nolan's brilliant thinking. Combined with the cinematography or how the movie was filmed (lighting, camera angles, camera movement, etc.) Nolan creates stunning visuals for the two and a half hour saga of good against evil. The film itself contains many long shots and astonishing background and inversion camera clippings creating stunning visuals on the big screen. The set seems to be jammed packed with props and intricate details that the viewer can really appreciate. Many resent the fact that it is over one hundred and fifty minutes long, but actually on the contrary I believe it adds to the overall suspense and to be frank any shorter of the movie would undoubtedly fail to do justice to the actors and plot of the film. In conclusion the viewer should buy this movie for the action scenes, excellent examples of great directing, an all -star cast, not to mention the fact that it was Heath Ledger's last film ever.』
(Beyond what I expected) 『Knowning all the hype that was put out about this movie had me very very concerned. Due to, from past experience, the lack of substance that a movie will have once completed and in theaters. More times than not a movie with such over hype usually is just a way for studios to try to gain money from the audeince who doesn't know any better and once it is seen it falls away into oblivian. That was my concern about this movie. That it would suck so bad that it completely destory Batman as a comic book character that has been around since the early 20th century. Just because studios think that the masses are just dumb sheep who will make a hit out of a movie just because of a lot of advertising was put behind it.
However, I was pleasantly proven wrong about this movie. What Christpher Nolan did with Batman Begins he built upon in this one. We see a city still in dispair to the point of breaking. Yet there is hope on the streets and fear starting emerge in the hearts of criminals, all because of Batman. Along comes the Joker. He is a sucidal maniac who wants to prove to the world that it sits on a thin thread between chaos and order. Thinking that most of society, at its heart, is chaotic is oout to take down the only thing standing between him and complete anarchy, Batman. To take down the Joker and his diabolical plans Batman, LT. Gordon, and newly appointed D.A. Harvey Dent team up. Although, the heroes of this story try to take down the Joker through moral ways he makes it very difficult for them to make the right decision and become a symbol of hope for the city of Gotham.
In the end the movie blew me away and then some. The script was well written. The movie was well acted by everyone included. And the moral choices that the characters had to make pushed comic book heroes into the real life that everyone can identify with.』
(Bats in the belfry) 『 A botched ending ruins an otherwise fine film that was shaping up to be even better than Batman Begins and one of the best action films of recent years. So how come 2 and not 4 stars? Unfortunately the botch-up hits the movie like an iceberg to the Titanic and substantially undoes all the brilliant build-up work that precedes it.
The movie is filled with the good guys making one tough choice after another, in the face of a terrifying new evil, as one excellent set-piece and set-up follows another in a complex, logical and satisfying manner. The movies length is more than justified by the unfolding of the whole complex series of moral dilemmas and their interesting resolutions. All that is, until the extremely clumsy and laughable resolution at the very end. The grand climax, the big payola is an execrable damp squib. If the people of Gotham, and even her criminals, can pass their moral tests on the boats, how come Gordon and Batman make such a ham's fist of something so simple as telling the people the truth? The Joker's has been captured, but sadly Dent was sent over the edge by the Joker's mad schemes. Surely the truth was the best fortification for Gotham's soul against future attacks by the Joker? What on earth are Gordon and Batman thinking when they hastily arrange a cover-up? Is Dent's reputation more important than the truth that he cracked under the demented pressure of the Joker?
This is not a minor mis-step, a 'dark', 'bad' or 'mistaken' choice by Batman and Gordon. It is an absolute howler by the scriptwriters. After 150 minutes of brilliant mayhem Gotham has the Joker by the balls. Gordon and Batman simply have to the pull the trigger. Instead they contrive to lie to the public, magnify the Joker's evil persona and make a complete mockery of all the brilliant moral posturing that has preceded them. A potentially great film, has been reduced to a pile of dreary and incoherent mush, by a few moments of madness. Listening to Gordon spew great wads of philosophical drivel to try to justify the botched ending is a minor masterpiece-of-disaster in itself.
Comics are never heavy on philosophy, although they are usually heavy on the posturing. What was so giddyingly exciting about this movie was that it threatened to raise the level of intelligence and wit of a comic-book adaptation several notches higher than most adaptations, not on the stylistic front, where thay nearly all score heavily, but on the thinking front, in this case with a brilliant series of moral dilemma traps set by the nutty Joker for his protagonists to solve and resolve. Dent fails, the people win, Caine and Freeman ain't playing so they can afford to look on knowingly, Dent's girl gets at least a pass for her efforts, so how come the two most important guys are so completely let-down by the script?
Make no mistake - this is not a 'dark' ending, it is an extremely poor one, one that completely flattens the whole point of the exercise. Which is extremely sad and horribly anti-climactic, because nearly everything else is zingingly on-point. Bale, Caine, Eckhart, of course Ledger - everyone does a fine job, the plot is both intricate and interesting, the action is just fine and once again, director Nolan does a grand job of bringing the comic-book Batman to life on the big-screen.
I think everyone was so desperate for this to be a great film, that they have allowed themselves to get all confused about the meaning and motive of the characters, plot and details, and so have contributed to the excessive hype - nearly all of it justified with respect to the first two hours of the movie, nearly all of it coompletely missing the point with respect to the ending and resolution of the movie. It is a sad day, when bamboozled by media hype and enormously loud special effects, the majority of the public are no longer able to accurately judge what does and does not constitue a great film.
』
(A Nearly Three Hour Speech) 『Mention character study as a reason to watch a movie to me, and you have just counterproducted yourself. When you say character study, I often say people study. Unlike some movie fans, I try my best to say grounded with reality, trying very hard not get impressed by every character on the screen as much as possible, getting to know (or observing) interesting people, getting into interesting experiences situations by myself, basically, all things real life. That doesn't mean I dislike a character study. Even though plot, film making, characters are crucial in making a movie complete. Interesting characters really can make a movie all that better. Oh who am I kidding? Bland characters can kill a movie. Just ask Roland Emmerich, as his characters are so bland that all the special effects in the world can't make a great movie (although, surprise surprise, his later).
Characters in movies are a peculiar thing. Some of them can be memorable, easy to love, identify, and let you watch and believe it, feeling everything the character is, loving or hating the person on screen. Even sometimes, the actors can make a character that isn't totally unique fall into this catergory. On the flip side, so many characters in movies are so "real" that watching them makes you wonder why the hell your even watching these personalities on the screen. So much that you realize that you aren't living a life of your own at all. Chances are, they don't have much plot revolving around them either.
The Dark Knight is being touted as the most realistic and intelligent comic book movie ever, a label that has so much laughable baggage in it. Basically, I see the whole Batman and DC comic label a gimmick. The story is not that interesting underneath, there is no atmosphere, the characters are not that interesting, the themes are't that original, and everything is ANALYZED to death (Nostalgia Critic hit the nail on what he meant about that). The Nostalgia Critic was right about what he said about analyzed, as everything is talked about at length. And many of the speeches aren't even that original. When the Joker is talking about how civiled people turn into animals, DOES THAT SOUND FAMILIAR? It something that was told in Lord of the Flies, nay, Freud's concept of the id, ego, and supergo already. And Freud's concept says a lot more in less tedious ways.
So who are the characters? Yes, the Joker is all about anarchy and chaos, but so are many other people. Sure, none have been close to taking over a city, but I think that most can figure out that anarchy can get out of hand. Frankly, seeing it really isn't that interesting. The Joker also really doesn't resemble the comic books as much as he should. When drawn, the Joker looks INSANE, crazy, and loony. I remember how much I used to shake at the sight of such pictures as Batman: The Man Who Laughs. Heath Ledger's joker look still doesn't do that much for me. And forget his . Jack Nicholson's is a litte more fun, and since Heath doesn't scare me that much, Nicholson's cartoony edge makes him more fun to watch.
The Dark Knight, however, is not a bad movie. Christopher Nolan is a great director, the acting is stellar, the music is great, basically, the technical aspects are excellent. The action scenes are exciting, as well as some great scenes that I liked scattered about. I also loved the Batmobile and the batbike, watching his costumes, and Heath Ledger's brillaint scene with his hostage. It wasn't exactly scary, but I could only imagine the silence that followed in the theater after it. Also, Two-Face was the best incarnation of the villian, considering that the first incarnation of the villian, well nevermind. Gary Oldman also was a much better Detective Gordon, simply because how well he sinks into the role. Oldman can sink into anything.
Yes, I do like Tim Burton's Batman series better, but that's not why I am rating this as an average movie. Rather everything else above makes it average. While this is miles better than the Joel Schumacher movies (Ya think?), it's touted "realism" is third person, which really hampers the movie since it has absolutely nothing to really offer besides that, a character study. Did I enjoy it? Sure. However, I expected a whole lot more, and The Dark Knight would probably not even got if it wasn't bagged as a comic book movie (ugh), no less known as a Batman movie.』 『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 12/09/2008 Run time: 151 minutes Rating: Pg13』 『The Dark Knightarrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralyzed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.
In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director-cowriter Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimedBatman Beginswith an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies likeSpider-Man 2andIron Manbecause of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knightis a film for the ages.--David Horiuchi

I was excited to see the release of the standard DVD remastered versions and they do not dissapoint for the most part. The recreations are very good and fit nicely in to the episodes. They episodes still have a "modern" feel, but do retain almost all of the original charm. I think the planet and ship digitizations are right on the mark. I do have an up converting DVD player and the quality of the remastering most definately is noticed. Some people have complained about the new theme music and/or the new digital additions, but I have no issues. I really think EVERY Star Trek fan needs to have these versions. Also, they are in 1:33 format as the original productions and while some have criticized that as well, I also see no issues. The Uniforms and all scenes are sharper and the sound is fantastic. I do have two criticisms that prevent 5 stars. There is NO english subtitles and MOST OF ALL, there is NO printing of the disks, just left alone with no data except for season and disk information. It would have been excellent had Paramount/CBS spend a few more cents per disk to print logos, episode information etc. I did end up printing my own labels, and is the only way to view the episodes on each disk. This is incredible thatthey were so cheap! But other than that, I am pleased and feel the blank printing is not enough to prevent anybody from buying this set (or the other seasons).』
(Awesome Show! Great Quality! Nice Effects!) 『Although I was born in the early 80's, I prefer TOS (The Original Series) over TNG (The Next Generation). I have watched the show time and time again, seen every incarnation, and have never seen anything like the remastering they've done here. I own this box set mainly because I took the HD-DVD plunge and bought the first season (Yellow Case) for HD-DVD/DVD combo. It retailed then for over $200. So then before the newest JJ Abrams flick began to emerge, I bought this set to further my collection. Little did I know that Paramount, after severing ties with failing HD-DVD manufacturer, TOSHIBA, was going through some changes with Star Trek and Licensing. With the success of the newest incarnation of the TREK franchise, Paramount has gone crazy releasing Blu-Ray versions of TOS Era Movies, (I-VI) TNG Era movies (VII-X), and TOS Television series. These are all a must buy for me! So, on to the review...
The shows are unaltered in their plots and basically any scene involving 60's SFX was altered or replaced with new CGI. Now... Don't get freaked out on me hard core Trekkies, because the CGI is done with TOS Era in mind. There are multicolored stars in the starfield, and the ships have not been overdone with hull-plating and bulkhead details. The ships are still smooth gray Navy looking ships with the nice black lettering. What they have done is take these models and replace the planets (Blobs of colors in spherical shape) and replaced them with 3d models that resemble something like a High Res google earth model. There are very photographic weather patterns and mountain ranges which can be seen even better in Season 1 HD-DVD. The ships move more naturally and have a more TNG feel to their maneuvering. Romulan Birds of Prey still have red wings painted on the hull and are very authentic. There is absolutely no remnant of Star Trek: Enterprise (Scott Bakula, Jolene Blalock) CGI in these DVDs. It is very Original Trek complete with Uhura's short skirt and Sulu's perfectly parted hair.
The film itself has been cleaned up, brightened, and restored to a quality that most new sitcoms can't achieve even with new equipment. This is the Trek that will keep new and old fans interested in a legacy franchise.
NOTE: I own this set, but if you have a Blu-Ray / HD Television set up, put down your cash and buy Season 2 on Blu-Ray! I will double dip as well just to have both versions (DVD/BD) to enjoy on any TV in the house. The blu-ray is packed with most of the DVD set features, but also lets you view Original vs. Restored in the same Frame! I would love to see that myself so I will be buying Season 1 (yep even though it's on HD-DVD in my shelf) and season 2 on Blu-Ray!
Being an A/V phile, I have a 1080p BenQ Projector and a 10' (Yes, 10 feet) Diagonal Electric Rolldown Screen with a Pioneer 7.2 DD/DTS DD True-HD/DTS-HD receiver and JBL Speakers/Subs to match. This is the way TREK needs to be seen, so please consider the Blu-Ray version of this!』
(Great second season/remastering!) 『A great second season (I like all 3), but this may very well be the best, and the remastered shots/audio look great (as with all 3 seasons), the stains, cuts, and so forth has all been cleaned up, and I can compare, I have 38 of the episodes on VHS that Paramount released back in the 80s.
Now, the first season is in HD/DVD format, this season is not, nor is season 3, but oh well, I just love that I can watch any episode, any time I want, and that's what it's all about!
Standout episodes...all are great to me, but these are the best to me.
Mirror, Mirror
Patterns of Force
A Piece of the Action
Bread and Circuses
The Gamesters of Triskelion
Obsession
The Deadly Years.
Great season, great remastering job, if you are a Trek fan, I do not think you will be dissapointed, if you are a purist, you may be, but I am not.
Thanks Paramount/CBS!』
(Amazing) 『A must have if you're a trekkie. The added CG breathes new life into the original series. Watch one new remastered episode and you'll be hooked...again!』
(Improving on perfection) 『As a fan of the original Star Trek since it first aired, I've always been honest enough with myself to admit that the effects back then were not the greatest. Also, given the fact that Gene Roddenberry had only a shoestring budget, he could never quite realize his dream to perfection. In spite of that, the stories always carried Star Trek where no science fiction story had gone before. These new remastered episodes go back and neatly bring the look of the show into the 21st Century of television effects. I still have my DVD's of the shows as originally aired, but having this is a nice supplement to any Star Trek collection.』 『" Space...The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its 5-year mission: to explore strange new worlds to seek out new life and new civilizations to boldly go where no man has gone before !" A deserved classic, the humorous story centers on an ever-expanding mass of furry creatures that memorably rain themselves down on top of Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and into the middle of a Federation-Klingon showdown. It inspired one of the most memorable episodes in the spin-off seriesDeep Space Nine, "Trial and Tribble-ations." Also in the second season, the Vulcan culture of Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) is fleshed out in "Amok Time" (in which Spock is faced with the possibility of killing his captain and friend) and "Journey to Babel" (introducing Spock's father, played by Mark Sarek, in what would turn out to be a long-recurring role). A new character, navigator Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig), was introduced; his Monkees haircut was intended to appeal to the younger audience, but he was also a Russian, which at the height of the cold war reflected Gene Roddenberry's optimistic vision of a more enlightened future. Other social-commentary opportunities presented themselves in "The Omega Glory," "The Doomsday Machine," and "Assignment: Earth," the last also one of those periodic opportunities to scrimp on the budget by time-traveling to an earlier version of Earth. Another example was "A Piece of the Action," a comic episode set in the Roaring Twenties and memorable for, among other things, Kirk's teaching a made-up card game called Fizzbin. In other significant episodes, "I, Mudd" saw the return of the bounder from season 1, "The Changeling" was the original inspiration for the firstTrekfeature film a decade later, "Wolf in the Fold" (penned by the author ofPsycho) provides an example of the series' great writing, and "Mirror, Mirror" introduced the concept of the parallel universe inhabited by vicious, amoral counterparts of the regular crew, another theme later borrowed (more than once, and to good emotional effect) byDS9.
On the DVD The remastered episodes are the highlight of the 2008 second-season release; like in season one, the reworked visual effects might irk purists but are an improvement overall, and some of the space exteriors are very exciting. It's not in high definition, however; season one was released in 2007 on two-sided combination HD DVD and standard DVD discs, which are now obsolete. Season two mimics the packaging, but is only standard-definition DVD, not Blu-ray. The picture, while obviously not high-definition quality, is still much improved over the 2004 DVD release. Special features here mostly mirror that 2004 set: 80 minutes of featurettes ("To Boldly Go" season recap, " Kirk, Spock&Bones: The Great Trio," "Star Trek's Divine Diva," "Designing the Final Frontier," and "Writer's Notebook: D.C. Fontana"), though missing from this set are the text commentaries on two episodes, the Red Shirt Logs, the production art, and the photo gallery. There are two new featurettes: "Star Trek's Favorite Moments," in which cast members of laterTrekfranchises and fans recall certain episodes, and "Billy Blackburn's Treasure Chest, part 2," in which aTrekextra tells stories and shows some of his on-set home movies. And because season 2 includes "The Trouble with Tribbles," the set includes two bonus episodes: "More Tribbles, More Troubles" from theAnimated Seriesand "Trials and Tribble-ations" fromDeep Space Nine. Conveniently, all three Tribble-centric episodes are on the same disc, and include the bonus features from the earlier DVD releases (the commentary by writer David Gerrold on "More Troubles" and the two featurettes--"Uniting Two Legends" and "An Historic Endeavor"--from "Tribble-ations"). The bonus episodes were not remastered, and you can tell the difference when comparing the original Tribble episode on this set with the grainier footage that was used in theDS9episode. A minor annoyance is that the discs are one-sided but appear to be two-sided, as if they had been designed for combo HD DVD again before a late change. That means the info on the disc is restricted to a ring around the middle, rather than a full label that could have listed the episodes on each disc; as is, they're only listed on the glossy "collector's data cards." And once again, the plastic shell is clunky and the disc spindles are way too tight. All in all, it's a nice package, especially if one doesn't already have the other Tribble episodes, but it feels like it's floating in a standard-definition limbo, stuck in the transition between HD DVD and Blu-ray.--David Horiuchi』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Bad for play, Great for DISplay) 『This figure is a great reproduction of Zack Fair in Crisis Core. As with all of the Playarts line, it has plenty of well-hidden articulation capable of reproducing plenty of Zack's poses from the game. The figure comes with an additional hand for better holding the buster sword as well as a peg for attaching it to his back. The paint application on the clothes and hair is exceptional, but the face isn't great and the light color of the flesh tone looks a little sickly. The arms can be a little flimsy, especially holding the sword's weight, so this one's really more for looking good in a single pose rather than rough play.』
(Crisis Core Zack) 『What can i say, it's an action figure....thats it. It does have some nice details to the figure, making it seem like it was taken from a real subject, i don't play with mine, i tend to set up any figures i buy, his wrist did get loose after a very short time, but thats nothing major. Cool toy, looks great posed with my Sephiroth, Rinoa and FF8 Guradian Force Odin』 『Zack is a young "SOLDIER" working for the Shinra Company. Following in the footsteps of his mentor Angeal, his dream is to become the greatest SOLDIER ever known. While he is ambitious, he is also known to be impatient and rash, traits which have gotten him into trouble on many occasions.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Looks great but not as durable as the other Play Arts.) 『I bought this figure at a toy fair and the right arm was already broken but did stay in place and was movable without gluing so I decided to get him. As I was seeing how well his legs bend his left leg came off at the knee, but same deal, it will stay and still articulate for the most part. No I didn't force it. I tried to get him into an action pose but the upper part of his legs (the part joined at the hip) do not bend backward at all, just forward so about all he can do is just stand upright. I have to say I'm kind of disappointed in this one.
I'm not sure why this one doesn't seem as durable as the other Play Arts figures. I have three others and some drunken friends gave a couple of them quite a work out and they came through intact.』
(Beautifully crafted but not durable at all) 『I was delighted when my Auron finally came in the mail. I was so excited to have him on display. At first glance, it didn't disappoint. It captures the essence of one of the FF series' most memorable characters. The figure is very detailed with all of Auron's cloak's tassels, clasps, and colors. It features an extra arm for when his arm is in his cloak and when it's not, which I think is very cool for the different poses you may want him in. Lastly, BEWARE!!! This toy will BREAK very easily. I was posing his arm for display on my shelf and his arm snapped. I was crushed... All in all, it's like talking to a super model...it's got all the eye-pleasing features, but after much handling it'll become damaged goods.』
(Awesome Action Figure!) 『This is a great product for any Final Fantasy X fan! It made for a great Birthday gift for my boyfriend!』
(He has some problems) 『My friend has this guy and after time this figure's legs just collapsed and his arm that holds the sword fell apart as well. Now this figure is metal bolted together and back on his featOne more thing this figure looks much older than the character.』
(Auron Action Figure) 『Final Fantasy X>Auron Action FigureThis item was purchased for a fan of Final Fantasy. Needless to say he was very estatic when he opened the box it was in for shipping. Great detail and great workmanship, very life like as well.』 『Imported from Japan! Square Enix brings you the Lead characters from the popular Playstation RPG, Final Fantasy X! These deluxe, highly detailed figures feature superb styling and decoration and are faithful to their in-game representation. Choose from: Auron (8.25" tall, 18 points of articulation), Tidus (7.5" tall, 20 points of articulation), and Yuna (7.25" tall, 20 points of articulation). Each figure ships in a collector's edition window box and comes with a trademark weapon.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (VERY MISLEADING!) 『This item is NOT from Final Fantasy X! No one wears this in FFX, nor does it relate to anything from FFX! This is a SAVE POINT CRYSTAL from FINAL FANTASY XII (FF12!)』
(Great Product) 『This item entered my home within two days of my ordering it. That has to be the fastest shipping I have ever seen in my entire life. The necklace itself was in absolute perfect condition; minus one itsy bitsy scratch on the inside of the stone. Overall, it was well worth it. 』
(To quote 'Suteki Da Ne': Isn't it wonderful?) 『This necklace is truly gorgeous, easily bringing to mind the beautiful Macalania spring scene between Tidus and Yuna roughly two-thirds through the game. The pendant is both beautiful and light while still remaining durable, and though the chain is not entirely break-proof it IS strong enough to support the pendant's weight without snapping suddenly and unexpectently. Although it will probably appeal more to FFX/FFX-2 fans, and maybe mainly with 'Tidus and Yuna' fans, it's still wonderful enough for non-FFX/FFx-2 fans to consider it.』
(Final fantasy X Necklace) 『my girl friend loves it and it really is a good quality neckless very dirable and looks great i highly recomend this to anyone enjoy ^-^』
(Value) 『The product is surprisingly nice. I expected some cheap and broken but other than a small chip on the side of the stone, the item was completely perfect. Though for those who like big gaudy jewelery I don't suggest this, along with people who like hearing their necklaces jingle as they walk. The necklace is a reasonable size and is completely silent as you walk』

Usually ships in 3 to 5 weeks Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (cannot compare with other strategy guides) 『I've gone through each FF game with the companion strategy guide. This one is by far the worst strategy guide. Simply too many errors, too many mislabeling of entrance/exit and items in each area, missing labels, wrong information, etc. Language is also at times unclear, as if the author was only writing with Middle school level English. It is adequate to help you get through the game easily, but not worth the price. You might as well look for the online FAQ.』
(I wish amazon had a 3.5 star option) 『though the game helped me immensely is boss battles, allowing me to properly equip my characters before boss battles and in chocobo breeding, it was rather lacking in several respects. The bestiary being the main thing.
Though most all monsters were organized and present some of the information was not there. Some monsters can be morphed into items such as ribbons, and though it was noted on online FAQs and walkthroughs they were absent in the guide as well as their weaknesses not being listed, unless all the monsters really don't have any elemental weaknesses and everyone's immune to gravity spells.
There was no table of contents but the whole book was organized chronologically with each town labeled properly and references to optional things in the back of the book. however, I wish the book mentioned when CD changes were.
By the end of the second disk, the maps began to be inadequate. They failed to properly show all the necessary paths and some locations were not labeled, such as the around icicle inn and the mountain, when the book could have been MUCH more descriptive. Though each level page had some information on a few on the monsters present, it does not state exactly which monsters will be present in the level and the bestiary states location not as the town where you can find them, but where in the town they are. something we all can't exactly remember when we've flown everywhere and can't figure out where in almost 26 places something is.
There are also a few inaccuracies, such as the ancient forest can only be gotten to with the golden chocobo, when in reality it can be accessed with a green chocobo and the earlier the items in this optional level are obtained, the more valuable they are.
Over all though, the book is useful and I derived more benefits from it than annoyances.』
(still did not get the balance owed to me from the mispriced book.) 『was listed as one price and when i got the product it was cheeper. okay but my checking account was not reimbursed the 15.00 difference.』
(Slight deviation from description provided) 『The description said I was to receive the Playstation version of the strategy guide. I received the PC version instead. While the versions may be identical or only vary slightly (i am still unsure), the description should have stated that it was the PC version. The transaction otherwise went very smoothly and I would transact with this sellet again.』
(Extremely helpful) 『This has to be one of the best strategy guides I have ever purchased. But since it was assembled by Brady Games, I can't say that I'm surprised. It has just about everything you need to know. It gives you information about the heros and their limit breaks to start out. The walkthroughs are written out quite well with maps of each room along with every item you can find.
This is also true for towns, such as Kalm. Not only will you see a list of every item, weapon, and materia available, but you will also see the prices for them as well! Talk about saving time. It also lists every enemy in the game (including Bosses!) as well as what item you can steal and/or morph the monster into if it's possible. Other enemy info includes how much money, gil, and AP you get from each one. You will also be able to see their locations as well.
Other things you will see are: Level 4 limit breaks and where to find them, ultimate weapons, where to find Yuffie and Vincent. This guide even tells you how to fight against the Ruby, Emerald and Secret Weapon!
The only thing I don't like about this guide, is that it doesn't give you a direct list of Enemy Skills for the Enemy Skill materia, you'll have to look at the enemy list for those. Don't worry, it tells you which enemy uses them. Other than that, it has everything you need to know.
I recommend this guide for anyone who needs help with this game for any reason.』 『 The Final Fantasy VII official strategy guide is by David Cassady. The book contains 223 fully colored pages.
A complete detailed walkthrough for the entire game. Ultimate weapons, extreme limit breaks, complete monster bestiary, character bios, boss strategies, materia combinations, master all bonus games, and find all hidden areas.
Beat both American monsters in the desert and under water. Find hidden characters Yuffie and Vincent. Train and raise a gold chocobo and get the knights of the round materia and much more. 』 『This Squaresoft-sanctioned book on one of the most highly anticipated console games ever does not disappoint. Those who have managed to obtain a copy of the game (descriptions of rioting and fighting upon the retail release of Final Fantasy IIV sound like sheer hyperbole, but probably aren't) will find plenty of helpful clues, maps, and general game play advice. Those less fortunate can at least take solace in--or further whet their appetites with--the hundreds of beautiful glossy screen shots that fill each chapter.』

Bottom line is I didn't receive what I ordered and then received a wrong book for which I had to go to the post office and refuse delivery of, although refund was received I had to do unneccesary steps for a transaction that never occurred.』
(Kingdom Come) 『The Book was in great shape when I got it, like new.
I had the opportunity to read the whole series over a two week period of time while recovering from surgery before going back to my 14 hour work days. I purchased the first ten books at a garage sale to have something to do during recovery time and was very pleasantly surprised. The later books tend to be a little more preachy than the earlier editions, that is why the five instead of six star rating. All in all, a great set of books. I did run out of time waiting for the last three editions to be delivered in time for my two week period to read these, and it seemed delivery was slightly slow in coming, and came in exactly reverse order receiving the last book before receiving the Armageddon book so I could not do anything but wait for it to arrive and now I am struggling with available time to be able to complete this series. That is not a complaint by any means because I received these three books from three different sellers and in all three cases I would buy from any one of them again.』
(its ok) 『Lots of build up through out the book and then they quickly tie all loose ends and it seems a little abrupt.』
(Kingdom Come) 『Not one of Tim LaHaye/Jerry Jenkins best works. I loved the rest of the series but this one I found a little anti-climatic.』
(Too Much Information to Pack into One Book) 『I had very high expectations for this book to be as great as the rest of the series, but I was a bit disappointed. The authors try to cram the Millennial Reign of Jesus into one book, and it shows.
At the beginning of the book, Tim LaHaye explains what the Bible says about the Millennial Reign. I did appreciate this because it helped answer a lot of my own questions. But when the actual story begins, it is just plain lacking. (I feel like I'm being so negative about one of the greatest moments mentioned in the Bible!!!) There are so many characters in the series, and the authors are trying to follow several storylines taking place in at least 4 different locations (which is something that all of the books in the series have in common). The beginning of the story starts at, of course, the beginning of the Millennial Reign. Then, at about chapter 5 or 6, they fast forward to year 95 and carry 95% of the story from that point. With about 10 pages left, they wrap up the end of the 1000 years.
While the book is very informative about this period of time that is yet to come, it must have been so very difficult to put in a fictional format. Obviously, our human minds cannot comprehend what God has in store for us when we get to this point in time. I do applaud both authors for bringing a greater understanding to me about the entire book of Revelation through this series. After reading The Rapture and Glorious Appearing, which were both AMAZING, I was just expecting more from this last book.』 『The horrors of the Tribulation are over, and Jesus Christ has set up his perfect kingdom on earth. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Phenomenal) 『A phenomenal game that is still great 10 years later.
First, the logistics. The price that Amazon offers is competitive and shipping was very quick. The only reason this game got 4/5 stars is that Disc 4 for some reason is not recognized by my PS3. Now this is a known issue with FF8 but some have reported that with the original 60GB PS3 (which I have), this isn't an issue. Oh well.
Back to the game, the story is amazing. Gameplay is great. I know there are plenty of critics of the junction system out there but I feel it's a very innovative system. More than that, it provides incredible flexibility. Just go to any of the numerous FF8 boards which are still active a decade after the game came out and people are coming up with ever-inventive ways to play the game: normally, no junction, no level, power-up style, etc.. etc...
Triple Triad also has to be one of the greatest side games implemented into a RPG. Fun by itself and by linking it up with Card Mod, Square has provided significant incentive to partake in this game.
Extremely happy with my purchase. I fully intend to pick up the PSN version when it comes out as well (2 months and counting.....) so I can finish Disc 4.』
(FFVIII) 『This game is great. I love the music and the battles. My fav. part about this game is the leveling up. It only takes 1000 exp to gain a level. no more 25,574 exp to get to level 70. The magic in this game is cool too. you draw it from the monsters and can use it off of them as well. The plot is interesting and there's a lot of cool extra stuff as well.』
(amazing) 『its a older game but i have just as much fun now as i did when it first came out』
(Love it) 『Love the style of the game and if your a final fantasy fan, this had better be in your collection or your not a fan. :p
』
(Must-play rpg) 『if you missed out on this game back in 1999 then you gotta buy this game. fantastic story, unique junction system and Squall the badass! what more could you want? if you like rpg's or final fantasy in general, buy it.』 『Pending』 『SquareSoft has always had a sure-fire hit when releasing any of theirFinal Fantasytitles, andFinal Fantasy VIIIshould be no exception. The basis of a good RPG (role-playing game) has always been the story; spectacular graphics are secondary.Final Fantasy VIII's involved and interesting story line is filled with great twists, well-developed characters, suspense, and romance. As an added bonus, the graphics are beautiful. Everything--from the low-lit jazz club to the steam-filled railroad tunnels--is gorgeous and perfectly sets the mood and tone of a scene.
The game mechanics are standard fare for an RPG: acquisition of items and spells, turn-based combat, experience points earned in combat allowing advances in levels. From exploration to battles to dialogue,Final Fantasy VIIIhas it all. However,Final Fantasy VIIIfalls to that great weakness of RPGs: random battles. While necessary for advancing in levels, the battles occur with such frequency that they can grow annoying, making for a tedious game experience.
The epic storyline spans four discs--over 40 hours of gameplay--and is based around a mercenary cadet who finds himself caught up with an underground rebel faction. He winds up in a plot to assassinate the sorceress who has just seized power from the president.
You could complain of limited replay value, but this gripe is of no consequence: the game is such a satisfying experience, it doesn't require replay.Final Fantasy VIIIis easily worth both the hype and the wait. You can't buy a much better game.--John Cocking
Pros:
A story to beat all stories
Characters worth caring about
Hey--it's from SquareSoft
Stunning animations
Cons:
Too many random battles
Combat is, as always, turn-based and offers minimal excitement
Weak souls might give up after two or three discs of play

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Crisis Resolved?) 『Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
The PSP hasn't had too many notable breakthroughs in the past few years and has clearly been in a fight for its life as the Nintendo DS continues to flourish. However, as the Xbox has shown us with the phenomenal success of Halo: Combat Evolved, one game can be the ticket to victory or just another limp paddle stroke along the slowly moving river. Does Crisis Core prove to be the PSP's bread and butter or another nameless title to be left in the dust?
Crisis Core offers the same tickles and thrills of a fan fiction story line. It incorporates most of the cast from Final Fantasy VII and adds a few forgettable new ones. Following the exploits of Zack Fair, the game sets the scene for those of you who have or are about to play the original Final Fantasy VII. It's interesting to see Cloud out of the limelight for once, and have the focus redirected on a more energetic, optimistic and let's face it, overall better protagonist. Aside from the fan favorite characters, Crisis Core experiments with adding some new faces to the legendary title. The first unmemorable face is Zack's mentor, Angeal. Angeal is a wise, reserved soldier who tries to impart his wisdom onto Zack and as a result ends up frustrating the vibrant youth and forcing the player to continue pressing the "skip scene" button. Cissnei, a Shinra turk, is yet another among the forgotten, acting as a secondary and painfully unnecessary love interest. Most of Cissnei's dialogue is like butchered Shakespeare, out of breath, rushed and no where near poetic. Honestly, if Cissnei as a romance was that important to Square Enix the writers should have invested more thought into her or not had her in the plot at all. Of course not all of fresh characters go by the wayside, in fact one sprite in particular contributes a brilliant performance and the cornerstone conflict of the story. Genesis, is arguably the main antagonist of Crisis Core, and gives the original Final Fantasy VII villain, Sephiroth, a run for his money. Misunderstood, bitter, and a man of artistic words, Genesis steals the show as a truly complex, mysterious and intriguing character who leaves the player to speculate if his motives are really right or wrong. But, if you are like most veterans of the series, you are purchasing this game for one and only one reason, to have another show down with the menacing First Class Soldier, Sephiroth. Sephiroth takes second fiddle this time around and acts more as a morally conflicted partner than an actual "villain". I often found myself waiting and watching for Sephiroth's epic fall to the dark side, much like anticipating Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader in the Star Wars series. However, I felt somewhat cheated. Sephiroth's fall was portrayed way too fast and resulted in an uninspiring, yet expected, show down with Zack at the foot of Jenova.
While the story may be a hot/cold experience for most, the one solid thing about Crisis Core is the gameplay. Mirroring similar traits from Final Fantasy XII, Crisis Core has the protagonist roaming around the battle field selecting attacks from a menu located in the bottom right corner. While this gameplay was not well received by the gaming community, I personally think it is a huge feat for a portable game. All the traditional aspects of an RPG are here. Magic can be quickly selected and thrown at enemies and heavy physical attacks, though time consuming, result in a rewarding blow. Overall, the game is merely a fast fingered traditional RPG that allows the player more freedom in dodging enemy attacks (Finally!).
Crisis Core doesn't only succeed in gameplay, but in the visual field as well. The environments in the game are astounding, delivering the nostalgic and beautiful ambience of the original title, revamped spectacularly taking advantage of the PSP's impressive graphics. From character models to high-action battle effects, the visuals in Crisis Core put PS2 graphics to shame. In particular, Square Enix's mastery of the CG rendered clips are well worth the price of admission alone.
Lastly, the audio in the game can be viewed as a mixed experience. While the music is extraordinarily composed and adds unparalleled intensity to battle sequences and complete despair in those unexpected plot twists, the voice acting just can keep up with the pace. It isn't always the voice actors' fault, but downright ridiculous and often embarrassing dialogue. The actors did the best the could with what they were given, but most times it seems like all the good lines were given to Genesis. Don't get me wrong, the story still isn't that bad, but just beware. You'll have to suppress some of those corny scenes from your memory to enjoy the plot thoroughly.
Altogether, Crisis Core is one of the best portable experiences on the market today and is well worth those twenty some hours it takes to complete. The story is interesting, the gameplay innovative, visuals breathtaking and the sound up to par with other titles in circulation, make Crisis Core a definite success for the PSP and another compelling chapter in Final Fantasy VII mythology.』
(Crisis Core FF7: PSP's greatest experience) 『Crisis Core is hands down the most fun I've had on the PSP since Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories came out years ago! I had put down my PSP for the last 3 years because of the lack of games. Now that Crisis Core finally has the "Greatest Hits" packaging, I jumped on the bandwagon and picked up the game. I was extremely happy!
FF7 is one of the greatest games I had ever played from my childhood, and Crisis Core stays faithful to the overall feel of the original game which inspired this prequel.
The Battle System is very fun and deviates from the traditional RPG games but definitely does not sell the title short. If anything, Crisis Core will only help you fall in love with the Final Fantasy VII series all over again.
I just finished the game and am playing the original now. I'm going to go back and load the "game cleared" saved file in CC after I beat FF7.
Good luck, and don't hesitate picking up this game.』
(A very awesome game) 『This game is awesome. i was surprised by not only how long the game is but how awesome the game looks and plays. it is definitly a gud game. i was a little reluctant to buy it but after awhile i did and i was blown away by how awesome this game is.

(fun, but repetative) 『If you're a fan of FF7, and want to find out how many of the characters met, this is the game for you. If these things don't matter to you, go ahead and skip it. The game play is repetitive, and the missions do get boring, but if you can trudge through, you will be rewarded with an ending that is one of the most touching in FF history』
(Crisis Core is an RPG Masterpiece!) 『Crisis Core is one of the greatest RPGs on any system. From the moment you start this game till the final cutscene, it is obvious how much love and effort (and big bucks!) went into making this gem. The story and character development is some of the best you'll ever experience, is is truly impossible to put this game down if you get into the story. Characters show real emotion and development, and their relationships and struggles feel very real (something most games can't accomplish, even on next-gen consoles!). If you're a fan of FF7, this game is an absolute must, it adds so much to the story and makes you question whether you really knew your favorite characters (Sephiroth is one example, you finally get to know him before he became a monster and find out what exactly drove him to madness). Overall, story, graphics, music, controls, everything is brought together perfectly to create a truly cinematic experience from start to finish. Moving on to the technical aspects of the game...
Although some reviewers criticized the nontraditional battle system, it actually suits the game very well; however, you need to play this game on the most difficult setting to get the most out of it (otherwise it's too easy). Also, I would recommend not doing missions unless it is necessary to gain strength for bosses, otherwise you might become too powerful and breeze through them. The later missions are truly challenging and rewarding, I recommend you give them a try after finishing the the main story, there are more than a few surprises to be found! I've spend over 50 hours on this game and only completed about 60% of the missions! Finally, if you liked this game, you will probably also enjoy these PSP games: Jeanne D'Arc, Brave Story: New Traveler, Star Ocean 1 and 2, and Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth.』 『You are a young SOLDIER 2nd Class who aspires to become a 1st, those who are strong enough and who are respected and idolized by the citizens. The game has held up surprisingly well over ten years, and some of the scripted graphics are still impressive. If you have never played this game before, I highly recommend it. It's best for players who like turn-based strategy games, such as Final Fantasy Tactics, Pokemon, or Worms Armageddon, although it is vastly different from all of these games. I almost forgot to mention that this game has an incredible storyline that rivals most movies these days. Five stars, an absolute must-play for strategy fans.』
(I love the entire game of this) 『i've had this game since it came out long ago but writin a review about it now seen some rude people writin bad about the game, i love this game even the blizball was a great side game if u want to take a break from the levelin up or side quest. it takes a bite to learn but like they say practice practice, thats how all games r u need to get use to it, the endin was sad but they made 10-2 which wasnt all that great to me i really didnt like that game but i got to see the happy endin i wanted in final fantasy 10 ^_^ so they had some cool ablitys but i didnt need all them most of the time , final fantasy has some great graphics even now they r still beautiful and breath takin. people that give bad reviews on this game dont seem to be real RPG gamers if u was u would now its all about the levelin in a game on a scale 1-10 i give this a game a 10 it was extremely fun and i've played it over many times and i rarely do it i loved playin the blizball it was so fun ^_^ well thats it really i love the story of this game it was beautiful』
(effin awesome) 『this game has everything and is effing awesome totally get it :)
of course if you still love your ps2』
(Best of the FF games, great combat system) 『I particularly love the cinematic presentation, and the turn-based combat system. The story was also very interesting, if slightly nonsensical toward the end.
The turn-based combat system is great, allowing for a leisurely pace, and strategic play. Being able to see the turn order lets you make strategic decisions regarding the use of abilities, much like in FF Tactics.
I also find FFX to be most beautiful FF game. FF13 may have "better", more realistic, graphics, but FF13 also looks like it's played through a blur filter to smooth out the appearance, and the camera angles make it hard to appreciate the beauty of the game. FFX, by comparison, looks sharp and clear, if a bit lower-res, and has beautiful and creative locations and monsters that you can fully see and appreciate.
The negatives to FFX are the very end-game, and how the game content is structured. If you head into the final dungeon as soon as you're able to, you'll find a challenging experience that will be ruined by a monster that detonates upon death, hitting your party for 8k damage. The most any single character had was 6k HP, so I had to have an Aeon make the finishing blow each time. It was very frustrating when I forgot to do so, or had an un-lucky crit kill the monster early, wiping out my party and forcing a re-load. It would have been perfect if not for this very annoying monster.
Going to buff up my party prior to the last dungeon, such that they could survive an 8k hit, let me experience a lot of the game content that's hidden, or not encountered during the main story, such as being able to get the ultimate-weapons for each character. However, coming back to the last dungeon after doing so made the end-game a complete joke, with bosses dying in 4 hits. Much of the game's content is thus found outside the story, if you ignore the last dungeon. And, in fact, all the most powerful bosses are found outside the main story arc.』
(Worst of the Series) 『I've played several Final Fantasy games since the first was released on the NES, and FF10 is easily the worst of the bunch.
As many other reviewers have stated, the game is extremely linear; it's a Japanese RPG, so linearity isn't unexpected, but this game takes it to the extreme. The majority of the time, the player is literally walking along a path; you fight your way along the path, until you get to the next path. Only at the very end of the game, when you receive the airship, do you get any degree of freedom, and even then it is rather limited.
Another gripe is that there are way to many cut scenes and they are all far to long while not actually saying anything worthwhile. Square doesn't allow you to skip past the scenes, so you are stuck watching 5-10 minutes of crap that you don't care about. On that note, the characters aren't very likable; the main character specifically. Tidus (the hero) is a crybaby and an overall pain; in no RPG have I been so apathetic as to the story and hero.
The various mini-games scattered around are also no fun, and it seems like Square just randomly put junk into the game to keep the player busy. Blitzball is to time consuming and tedious, as is the monster arena. There is also a ridiculous lightning dodging and butterfly catching "game" that the player needs to complete in order to get some late game items. Why are these tasks in the game? I bought a Final Fantasy, not a sports game or FPS where I need twitch skills.
The only good points for the game are that the graphics are very nice, and the new battle system is pretty good. It pains me to say it, but this Final Fantasy is garbage. At the half way point I just played to get it over with. Overall, if you are an actual Final Fantasy fan, and have played more than the most recent three games, I would skip this. Hopefully Square will put more than just pretty graphics in their future iterations.』 『Final Fantasy X takes you into the world of Zamarkand, where you must face down the dark force called Sin to save the world!』 『Each installment of the Final Fantasy series has featured strong storytelling, characterization, and strategic combat, fun minigames, and hours upon hours of captivating gameplay. The 10th title in the series is no exception. This is the first time a Final Fantasy game has appeared on the PlayStation2, and it takes full advantage of the increased technical capabilities.
The story this time concerns Tidus, a blond-haired star of a sport called Blitzball. While he is playing in a match, Tidus's city is attacked by an evil force called Sin, and everything is destroyed save Tidus and his guardian Auran. The adventure begins as the pair are somehow transported to another world. From here on, it's standard Final Fantasy gameplay: fight battles, manage experience points, learn new powers, and recruit a motley crew of nonplayer characters to join your quest.
The graphics, however, take things to a new level. They are amazing not only for their realism, but also for their imaginative art design. The world these heroes inhabit is breathtakingly beautiful, flowing, and full of inventive surprises. You haven't lived until you've surfed cables high in the air, or ridden a graceful airship through the clouds. The stunning effects are on display when you use magic in combat, summon gigantic monsters, and use fire columns to devastate your foes.
One new element is voice acting. The innovation yields predictably mixed results: it's wonderful to hear spoken dialogue rather than read subtitles, but as with most games translated from Japanese, the acting is mediocre and sometimes unintentionally hilarious.
Still, the game's new graphics engine and solid gameplay are sure to please fans of the series waiting to see what Square has in store for them. WhileFinal Fantasy Xdoesn't offer much innovation, it also doesn't disappoint. And fortunately, withFinal Fantasy XIalready in development, the title is still a misnomer.--Andrew S. Bub
Pros:
Gorgeous graphics
Epic story line
Voice acting
Cons:
Little innovation
The voice acting is sometimes laughable
』 『Final Fantasy Xis the first title in this landmark RPG series to be released for the PlayStation2. The main characters are Tidus, a star of blitzball (a hugely popular sport in the Final Fantasy universe), and Yuna, who has learned the art of summoning and controlling aeons, powerful spirits of yore. These two people of different backgrounds must work together as they journey through the world of Spira. This installment of Final Fantasy has a distinctly Asian influence, bringing a fresh feel to the characters, music, settings, and story.
Features include voice-overs for the first time in the series (utilizing the Facial Motion System), high-polygon, motion-captured player characters designed by Tetsuya Nomura, and a camera that automatically adjusts its perspective to correspond with the movements of the characters--a feature now possible because the game is largely polygonal.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Oldie but goodie.) 『The game is still going on. Its a fun time sink. People get serious about the game, their money, their armor.
What I've found is a lot of ex-con's hang out in this game (not joking). I have no idea what the attraction is. Maybe it is all the crude language, or the ability to con others out of their stuff and sell it to others. Yes, there are college kids playing and a few casual players, but mostly the gamers here and unemployed, unmotivated and predatorial.
You have to go online to play and could play alone online, but to get the most out of what the game offers you need the help of others.
Children should not be allowed to play this game.』
(Words Of Warning) 『No one seems to be mentioning the major problem I have with this game. So I guess I will.
I bought this game when it first came out two or three years ago. Spent 50 bucks on it at EbGames. I was so excited, I started downloading right away. After 4 or 5 solid hours (at least), I finally got to start playing.
It's a good game, don't get me wrong, but being only 15 and not wanting to plunk down a week of my allowance a month for a game I could only play for an hour or so at a time (it was on the family computer, plus I had school work). I thought, "Well I'll probably play it again someday." So I deleted my account, so my mom's card wouldn't be charged anymore and I wouldn't have to fork over the money to play each month.
Fast forward 2 years. I have my own computer and my own credit card, so I break the game out again. I have more time, I'm out of school, not yet in college. So what the hell? I'll give it another shot. But first, I read the first few pages of the hefty 144 page instruction booklet.
On page 11, I believe, these words are written under the section "CAUTION! About Your Member Information": "Your member information is retained on the server for three months after your access to PlayOnline is disabled. ... After this three-month period has elapsed, you can no longer use your previous account information. You must create a new account to use PlayOnline again. Please note that this means you must purchase A NEW COPY of the software from a retailer and reregister for PlayOnline".
Maybe you skimmed over that part, so I'll say it again. "YOU MUST PURCHASE A NEW COPY OF THE SOFTWARE FROM A RETAILER".
This means that if you, for any reason, have to unsubscribe from PlayOnline for a while (say you're not playing the game and you don't want to pay for something you're not going to use for a while), you have to shell out the bucks to buy the game again!
I read this and I thought, "Huh. What a bunch of BS." I tried installing it anyway, and wouldn't you know it? My registration codes that worked 2 or 3 years ago do not work now. I can't sell it, the registration codes don't work and I don't want to pawn off my bogus copy. (ANOTHER WARNING: Nobody buy this game used! It might not work for this exact reason!). I paid fifty dollars for the game and those registration code and now the only thing the game is good for now is as a paper weight. And you know how useless those are.
If I were to buy this game again, I'd have to pay about half the price I paid for a game that I already did buy AND I have to play at least every three months. I don't know about anybody else, but I got through game phases. I play a lot of games for a few months, then I stop for a while, then I get back into it.
For me, I'm not sure if I want to waste anymore money and time on this one. Which is a shame, because it's not a bad game.
YOU HAVE TO HAVE COMMITMENT TO BUY THIS. Weigh the PROs and CONs before purchasing. Make sure it's worth it.
If you can handle it, more power to you.』
(Bag... of ...) 『I had, unfortunately, very high expectations of this game. I mean, Final Fantasy... MMORPG? Whoa! The best of two worlds collide!
Unfortunately, the result of the collision is a horrid mess. Square smashed this game out of the park graphically, and the sounds effects and music are decent too. Unfortunately as well, that's where the positives stop.
- The UI is awful and unintuitive. - Play control is ruthlessly cumbersome. - Players are (mostly) unhelpful to new players. - Race/Class combination is pretty boring. Each race has a "best" class and most people go that route. - Did I mention play control is horrible? - The combat system is, also, unintuitive. I *highly* recommend playing a melee character as a first. Any casting class will be killed over, and over, and over. And apparently this is just blindly accepted. - The chat system is pesky. - Oh yeah... the play control? Don't even get me started on it.
Now, the reason I weighed Play Control so heavily is because, in ANY MMORPG, you're going to spend a LOT of time traveling around. A *lot*. That, mixed with the horrible UI and combat system just make for a very frustrating experience. If you want a game with any sort of substance? Do yourself a favor and check out World of Warcraft. Or even Dark Age of Camelot.』
(short and sweet...don't waste your money) 『I can't begin to describe how boring this game was. After sitting at home for 3 hours for all the install and updates I finally was able to play. I couldn't believe how dumb the controls were on the XBOX controller. We have microphones...and if you play games like call of duty 2 you can talk to different people, but not in this game. You have to scroll through a picture of a keyboard on the screen...it takes 1 minute to write your name. Just don't get it if you are not into games that have a really really deep storyline...100's of foreign names for everything, lots of walking and way too many controls. I played FF9 and absolutely loved it. Can't say that about this one. I am pretty bitter about spending the money on this game. Hope this review was helpful. I read a lot of positive reviews on this site and I am assuming those ones are from people who really are into intense, never-ending role playing games.』
