(Great but NOT available!)
『I would like to second the reviewer who wrote in 2005 that this CD was not available. I bought this CD in a store some time ago, hence why I can attest that it is great. But due to some snookery on the part of a supplier, this CD never actually ships -- I suspect it's out of print and no one wants to tell us. Trust me, if you really want to order it (and it *is* a wonderful summary of the sounds of FF1-FF6), FIRST talk to the good folks at Amazon and make them PROMISE you that it's available. If they can't do that, then don't waste your time ordering it! Take my advice on this.』

(WARNING: Don't buy this here (great album though))
『Don't buy this from Amazon! I've had this on order since June of 2005 and I have still not received it (October 18th at time of writing). It's a great album and I think it's worth the money but get it somewhere else.』

(This was a very well done CD, but...)
『This was a great CD. The music flowed great. The title selections were very thought out. The opera song from FF III was done unbelievably well. The only problem I saw with it was that almost half the CD had vocals in it in one way or another. I prefer instrumentals rather than vocals, and even though I do like the vocals done in FF S Gen and even a couple in this CD, I do believe there were a couple too many. I can't say much about them because about half-way through I would just skip over them. At the time I was more interested in finding out how many there were in the CD. I have listened to the whole CD at least once and I will attest that this CD is well worth the money spent. True FF die-hards will not be disappointed.』

(More Beutiful scores from Final Fantasy)
『Just like Final Fantasy S: Generation, this cd is a compelation of remixes to music from the previouse games. In this case the music is from the games 1-6. While there are not as many memorable tracks from this one as in the case of S Generation (Where was FFV Gilgemesh THeme) there is enough here to satisfy Final Fantasy Nuts, like myself, or even fans of orchestra and opera.

the CD starts of the very memorible theme from Final Fantasy 1 (The first Bridge that the heroes cross and the credits start) which would evolve throughout the variouse games. It also features such memorible tracks as the opera scene from FFVI, teh CHocobo theme from FFV, as well as Rydia theme and the Moogle Theme.

OVerall this is more great music that should not be missed.』

(Awesome album, IDENTICAL to"Final Fantasy 1987-1994"CD)
『This is a great album. It's made up of some of the best themes from the games.
All are very nicely performed.
I especialled loved the 'Songo de Chocobo'.

Something you should be aware of, if you already own the Japanese import CD:"Final Fantasy 1987-1994"then there is no need to buy this CD.
The two CD's are 100% TOTALLY IDENTICAL. Even the CRC codes on the CD matches. So if you already own"Final Fantasy 1987-1994"then don't get this CD.』

(wasn't that impressed...)
『yes ive seen all the episodes and played through two of the games, infection and mutation, and i found this anime series obnoxiously flat with a very slow moving plot. the soundtrack to the series is wonderful along with the artwork but i found the story to be non-gratifying in any way shape or form for me.

granted i watched the horribly translated sub version from japan it probably wouldnt be fair for me to really recommend .hack// or not, but to take caution and rent a few of the volumes before investing money on purchasing them, unless of course your a die hard .hack// fan :P』

(If you like Neon Genesis get prepared for their newest work!)
『I've watched A LOT of anime way before it became mainstream, so I have had a sample of all the good stuff that made it here before the crappy kids shows. Neon Genesis is a supurd anime, you can't call yourself an anime lover before you watch that, however as much as I liked that anime, I LOVE .hack//SIGN. This sotry is slower moving, you see mostly character development and none of that bloody violence that is prevolent in most anime and other media. If you love getting involved with the characters you'll love this. Every person alive can relate to at least one of the characters in .hack, it's amazing to watch it and see how their lives play out. Even better, if you like this anime enough, there are four games to play that take place 6 months after this story. They pick up where it left off and solve the riddles that are left unsolved at the end of this series. Now I have to say that to be an true anime fan you have to have watched 2 series, Neon Genesis Evangelion and of course, .hack//SIGN! ^_^ \/』

(Once more unto the breach, dear friends...)
『The party gets assists from Helba and, in a brief cameo, Subaru's powerful friend Balmung - who we haven't met yet but has previously been mentioned as helping out offscreen - as the final conflict draws near.

Of all the people he's come to care for, Tsukasa's closest tie is to Subaru, and he now trusts her enough to share Aura, the sleeping girl with her. This does not go over well with The Voice, however, and once Subaru leaves she punishes him severely - a serious setback, as Tsukasa is left traumatized and shell shocked.

In other developments, the whole party is now on the same page, with Bear and Mimiru working in concert with Subaru and Crim for the first time. With the appearance of unkillable boss monsters hearalding the fact that they're running out of time, they try to bring their lost sheep back into the fold.

Previous comments from Crim have suggested that the Silver Knight isn't really a bad guy if given a nudge in the right direction, and indeed we find him taking the fallout of the Knights' dismantling - which was certainly never his intention - even harder than Subaru. B.T. - who's been seesawing through the whole series - wants back in, but doesn't see how that's possible considering her recent behavior and the messy way she's left things - until she finds to her surprise that Bear still maintains an almost childlike faith in her. For that matter, the"old man"hasn't entirely given up on Sora either.

There's always one problem case, however, and it looks like he might be wrong on that count. Until now, Sora hasn't really done anything more dire than play The World rather unscrupulously. However, it should be starting to register that a real child is in trouble and this is no longer just a game, and his antics are starting to wear thin. Finally even threatening Mimiru - who he had seemed to like if he liked anyone - he seems to be a lost cause. And like the young boy it's been implied he is in the real world, he starts playing with fire...

The chess pieces are on the board, and zero hour is approaching.』

(Things are starting to tie together...)
『I can't get enough of .hack. I continue to be surprised by this series. Our heroes are starting to get closer to solving the mystery of the Key of the Twilight. You must get this.』

(Loving This Series...)
『Okay, so I'm a huge fan of both the anime series and the game, so I may be a bit biased... I started with the game, and was worried that I wouldn't like the series, or that it wouldn't compare to or measure up to the game. However, the series parallels the game, and there are some nice tie-ins between the series and game now. The characters in the series are nicely developed, and the storyline is very involved without being over-developed or entangled. The story has taken some good twists, and I love it! I'm also a fan of the music that's in the series. It nicely accompanies the story, and is something that I can listen to anytime. I highly recommend this series for anyone who's ever played the game, or for someone who happens to love anime. Thumbs-up from me!!!』
『Studio: Infinity Resources Inc Release Date: 11/18/2003 Run time: 100 minutes』
『The quest for the Key of the Twilight continues as the appearance of undefeatable monsters and mythic heroes shakes the online Game World. As the relationship between Tsukasa and Subaru grows closer, he takes her to the hidden forest of the sleeping girl--and is severely punished. The voice that once promised to accompany Tsubasa abandons him, taking the sleeping Aura and the Puss-in-Boots-like Macha to a weird, aqueous realm. While the odious Sora and BT connive, Crim joins Bear and Mimiru in the search for clues about the mysterious Key. With the help of the seeress Helba, they discover that the aged failure of the upside-down dungeon is a manifestation of Harald Hoerwick, the creator of the prototype game world. Director Koichi Mashimo uses tantalizing but ambiguous clues to build the suspense as this intriguing series moves toward its climax. (Rated 13 and older: violence)--Charles Solomon

(final fantasy)
『if you see that i gave it only a 4 stars, it's because i feel it's just a next step up. remember vhs to dvd.

don't get me wrong i love the movie, but when you have a home collection with more then 1,000 dvd, and now you have to replace them with blu-ray. and it has taken me about 12 yrs to collect. i just hope they don't come out with another format, then i have to start all over again lol.』

(Convoluted story with an ambiguous ending)
『This is a very dark animated film, in which a remnant of humans are fighting aliens - and each other - to survive. On the one hand, you have a band of idealists, who believe that the Earth has a spirit that can be used to fight the invaders (whose true nature remains a mystery). They seek spirit essences of some sort, which when united might save humanity. On the other hand, there are militarists who see no reason to believe any of this; their ultimate weapon threatens to destroy the Earth's spirit, Gaia.

From this somewhat promising premise, the story becomes both a confusing shootout (it is unclear if the enemy aliens die and how to fight them) and a political struggle that becomes extremely deadly. At least for me, I could not quite forget that I was watching something made up - I never suspended my disbelief and gave myself over to it. The risks and ambitions just get bigger and bigger, the scenarios more outlandish and desperate and ultimate. By the end, it had nearly completely lost me.

One thing that is good, in my view, is that the outcome remains unexplained and ambiguous. The viewer is not told what happened and what it means, which is nice in that it leaves a lot to the imagination, which is the mark of all quality sci-fi. However, I found the characters boringly two-dimensional and the plot unoriginal, in spite of the good special effects. I assume that the product shoudl stand on its own, as I am not a gamer, and for me it barely did.

I would not recommend this except to those who like this world because of their familiarity with the game or because they want a simple adventure. It is not for hard sci-fi fans.』

(CGI Animation Done Right!)
『Long before James Cameron started pimping his Avatar epic, Square Pictures pioneered the world's first full-length photorealistic CGI animated movie. This was based on the hit video game franchise of the same name, although the movie took a more sci-fi approach as apposed to the more high fantasy that most of the earlier games.

Taking place on a post-apocalyptic Earth(that's right, not Ivalice!)in the mid-21st Century, Aki Ross is a scientist who is trying to collect eight seperate spirits, which when combined will create an energy field that will rid the planet of an alien force. The invaders are creatures referred to as Phantoms, which are ghostlike monsters that literally suck the souls out of people. This happened after a meteor crashed on Earth decades earlier, and the Phantoms spread throughout the world and killed off most of the humans. The survivors live in specially shielded cities, who have built a giant oribiting cannon to blast the alien meteorite and save the planet. But Sid, the scientist who created the special Phantom-proof shields, realizes that this might cause the aliens' spirit to take over the Earth's spirit known as Gaia, which would destroy all life. Sid along with Aki are enlisted the help of the special military squad of Deep Eyes, the commander of which is Aki's old boyfriend, Gray. They try to find the remaining spirits, however the vengeful General Hein is plotting to destroy the Phantoms at any cost.

The Spirits Within was the precursor to several other computer animated films that attempted to have the characters(human or otherwise)appear as real as possible, such as Beowulf, Kaena: The Prophecy, Resident Evil: Degeneration, and Negadon. The animation was virtually years ahead of its time, which might have worked towards its disadvantage as some people were possibly just not ready for that kind of advancement in cinema. Granted, it might seem pretty common by today's standards, but when this came out in 2001 it was groundbreaking, and even busts the chops of some of the more recent digital animation.

Of course the biggest gripe most people had was that it had very little to do with any of the actual Final Fantasy games. Most fans of the series expected guys with gravity-defying hair riding on Chocobos and swinging colossally huge swords around. However, the movie offered a compelling sci-fi/action/drama which managed to incorporate most of the better attributes that the games had, mainly brilliant character development and a compelling plot. It truly is an exceptionally great film, and worth a second look for those who are willing to see past the fanboy hatred.』

(MAGNIFICENT AND BREATH-TAKING 9.5 OUT OF 10)
『It's a shame that this film didn't do as well as it should have. It didn't do very well in terms of critical response (44% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and a 49 out of 100 on Metacritic), it was a box office bomb to the point of where Square Enix kicked the film's director and producer Hironobu Sakaguchi (The creator of the Final Fantasy game franchise) to the curb, and some people have been popping up who proclaim it to be "the worst video game movie ever!" Surprisingly, one of the biggest defenders of the film was film critic Roger Ebert who I hate greatly for a number of reasons. Roger Ebert handed the film a 3.5 out of 4-star rating and didn't believe people would understand the film. I believe Square Enix reacted a little too quickly to fire the creator of Final Fantasy, which I believe was a big mistake. And to those of you who think this is the worst video game film ever, clearly you've never sat through an Uwe Boll travesty, have you? Not to mention, most scores on different sites that I've researched, beg to differ on such a proclamation. I loved this film, it was an amazing cinematic accomplishment in terms of CGI and sci-fi action films. It may not have the most original storyline, but it does pull you in to a certain extent.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Year: 2065, thirty-four years previously, a mysterious alien forced called Phantoms invaded the Earth and destroyed most of the life on Earth by stealing the spirits of their victims. Now the planet is overrun with the Phantoms. Dr. Aki Ross is a woman struggling with a Phantom parasite inside of her body and suffers from strange dreams she cannot explain. She goes around the planet trying to find eight spirits which, when all eight are collected, will destroy the Phantoms. With the help of the Deep Eyes Squadron and her mentor, Dr. Sid they search the planet to find the seventh and the most important eight spirit. But they face troubles with the military, and the military unknowingly is about to destroy Gaia (Earth's spirit) and let the planet become overrun with the Phantoms. Now Aki and the team must stop this from happening and destroy the Phantoms at their source.
MUSIC: This music is simply amazing. It fit the mood well and was extremely well-written and composed. I have absolutely no gripes with this area at all, the music is stunning to put it bluntly.
ACTION: This film a feast for the eye. The CGI is staggering and beautiful in every way... and this film came out eight years ago! Nothing competes with this film's CGI, not even Pixar films! The action scenes are wonderful and totally awesome in every regard. The film starts off slow, but then the film goes off with a bang and doesn't stop till the end. It gets the blood and adrenaline pumping and refuses to let go. This is how a Star Wars animated flick should be, not the disastrous Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Widescreen Edition) (Let's just try and pretend that never happened). Quite simply, this sci-fi flick is kickass.
ACTING: Although not all these actors are recognizable, their performances are really good, even though there are some moments of questionable dialogue. This film may not have the most compelling characters, but they do their job well and they do move the storyline along quite well. Overall, this area is really good.
OVERALL: If you love sci-fi flicks, CGI films, or just love awesome films in general, you must see this film because it will blow you away in just about every way.
THE GOOD: Stunning CGI animation, awesome action scenes, good acting, and great music.
THE BAD: The storyline doesn't quite live up to the potential and there are moments of awkward dialogue.』

(Definitely a gamers' movie)
『Beautiful colors and brilliant animation with excellent voicings.

That's it. That's about all you can say about this rewarmed pot-boiler. Hackneyed plot, nonexistent character development, unsatisfying conclusion.

This is a film that will appeal to gamers and fans of anime. Everyone else can find better use for their ticket money.』

『Earth is a desolate wasteland inFinal Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Humanity has been decimated by an invasion of Phantoms, insubstantial aliens that extract and devour the spirits of living things. The few remaining humans have retreated to a handful of cities that are protected by massive bio-energy shields. The beautiful Dr. Aki Ross (voiced by Ming-Na) and her mentor Dr. Sid (Donald Sutherland) have discovered that the energy signatures of eight key Earth spirits can cancel out and destroy the Phantoms. With the help of Captain Edwards (Alec Baldwin) and his band of marines, they must scour the globe for the last two remaining spirits before General Hein (James Woods) manipulates the refugee government into attacking the aliens with an orbital laser that may also destroy the Earth.

Hironobu Sakaguchi's film is taken from the popularFinal Fantasyvideo game franchise, which is particularly well suited to film adaptation with its series of original stories, but the movie features entirely new characters and settings. And likeToy StoryandShrek,Final Fantasy: The Spirits Withinis completely computer generated. Unlike those cartoon comedies, though,The Spirits Withinis a serious science fiction drama with astonishingly human digital actors. Aki, the female lead, appeared in a full-page spread inMaximmagazine's Hot 100 list--and was indistinguishable from the real-life models. The setting and conflict make for incredible action, but it's the larger issues, character interaction, and human elements that really make the movie shine. The Spirits Withinis not simply a science fiction movie, in the same way thatCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragonis not simply a kung fu flick. The result is a fantastic summer movie with better action and more emotion thanPearl Harbor, and actors more lifelike than those in that other video game movie,Tomb Raider.--Mike Fehlauer

(SUCKS BIG TIME)
『Jeff Burton directed the film he also edited it, produced it, screen wrote it, he was the camera man, he did the sound design, he did the blood and physical effects, and at the end he sent special thanks to the Burton family "his family" who seem to make the movie from A-Z no wonder why this movie sucks.

DON'T WATCH IT』

(No bad actor is safe in this disappointing slasher film)
『Two stars may be one star too many for this veritable showcase of poor acting, but I'm giving the film a couple of props for gore and a somewhat unpredictable ending. Make no mistake, though - Acts of Death (also known as The Final Curtain) is an amazingly bad movie. For the first hour or so, it's a movie in search of a plot, full of characters so annoying that you can hardly blame the unknown killer for wanting to kill them all, and then it shifts into standard slasher mode the rest of the way.

The film opens with a group of students sneaking into the theatre building at night in order to initiate one or more freshmen into some kind of theatre group. The group turns out to be more of a fan club for resident loverboy and actor Chase Masterson (Nathaniel Nose), who has his own huge yet supposedly secret Party Room inside the building. This is where Chase and his groupies meet to get drunk and pass out. The initiation itself seems to consist of Chase slipping the young coed a mickey and then essentially raping her - it's hard to be completely sure because Angela (Erin Scheiner) ruins all of the fun by going into convulsions and dying before Chase has the chance to get his groove on. Don't feel too bad for Chase, though, as he ends up sleeping with another girl in order to keep her from talking - this, by the way, doesn't make Chase's girlfriend Sabrina (Niki Huey) very happy. The aftermath of the Angela thing opens up a seemingly important subplot with Gus (Reggie Bannister), the building's live-in security guy, but it's best to just forget all about that because the writers apparently did.

With Angela now missing, the decision is made to lock up all of the campus buildings (and electrify the windows, as well) at 8:30 each night. This delights Campus Security Chief Liberace - I mean Jack Strong (Glenn Shadix), but it sort of puts a crimp in the whole nightly theatre rehearsal schedule, which greatly displeases the director, Yanni - I mean Eamon (Jason Carter). It begs the question of why Chase and his groupies snuck in a window the night before when the doors weren't even locked, but that's only one of many unanswered questions this film raises. Anyhoo, members of our little theatrical group ignore the rules and hang around for practice the next night - and so it is that they find themselves trapped in the building while a mystery killer begins taking them out one by one - and in pretty grisly fashion.

There's not one decent actor in this entire film. Worst of all, you have to suffer through the equivalent of bad acting squared when these bad actors rehearse their parts - badly - for their upcoming theatre production of Macbeth. Shakespeare is all but forgotten, however, by the film's mid-way point when it becomes pretty clear to one and all that someone is trying to kill them. Acts of Death basically just turns into a standard slasher at this point, but the murders themselves are rather impressively original and gory. The writers also do a good job hiding the killer's identity, throwing in at least one good red herring that threw me off-track. Maybe it does deserve those two stars after all - but certainly no more than two.』

(Ugghhh)
『Yes, this is made by Lionsgate, I love Lionsgate because of SAW. My friend's dad (Donnie Wahlberg) *He was in SAWs II-IV as detective eric matthews and in Dead Silence as the detective) said he saw a little clip from Acts of
Death and that the clip was good. I found out what clip it was, the only good clip on the movie. This movie is boring and has boring deaths, don't bother with this one!!!』

(Yawn)
『This movie was not very good.

The deaths weren't very violent at all, and the ending was so confusing I felt like watching it over to make sure I didn't miss something, but I didn't because it was just so unbearable to watch again.

Don't buy this movie due to the fact that it is horrible. I have again been the victim of "judging a book by it's cover." Boy, did this cover make the movie look good!! Haha.

WRONG! =)』

(Worth your time)
『This is the third book and follows Tenth Planet and Tenth Planet Oblivion. I gave this one four stars instead of the five I gave the first two books because I was led to believe that this story was a trilogy not an open ended series. Don't get me wrong, I like long stories, but I wasn't expecting it here. I was expecting a satisfying conclusion to the Tenth Planet trilogy, but instead I got an exciting ending to book three and an open invitation for a sequel.

So, where is book four? It doesn't seem to have been written and I want it! Anyone know if Smith will/has written book four?

Mark E. Cooper
Warrior Within (ISBN:0-9545122-0-0)』

(An easy and fun read)
『The third and final book in the Tenth Planet series. Somebody earlier said it was pure escapism and they were correct. I read this strictly for fun and I enjoyed it.』

(Fast-paced adventure novel)
『In the third and final book of the series, Smith describes Earth and Malmuria (our solar system's tenth planet) locked again in mortal struggle. Both worlds have gained experience from their previous encounter six months before and are now prepared to confront each other with new resources and knowledge. The war is a fierce one, for only one species can win.

This is the type of book that would make a perfect movie. Much action, many dialogues, places which are described but would much better be seen on screen, planes, spaceships which would make the special effects people happy. This is how you must think of this book: an adventure/SF movie. You should not look for philosophy or character development, monologues, any"serios literature"stuff. This book does not intend to do that.

It is easy-reading, but pleasant nevertheless, the action is fast-paced, it keeps you on your toes all the time, the suspense is mastered beautifully.

The book gets a minus (hence 4/5 stars) because of the human characters. The book pictures the entire human race as prejudiced. The aliens are more human than the humans.
The aliens explain the reasons for their actions all the time and are considerate towards the human race - before the war had started, every time they had"harvested"the Earth they had tried to do minimal damage to the population. Their violence, which shocks so much Earth's people, is never unjustified, it is dictated only by their will to survive - and we all can understand that.
On the other hand, humans always refer to the aliens as"those bastards", they only want to"blast them off", think only of killing them. Never once did they try to find a way to solve the conflict other than by completely exterminating the Malmuria. Kind of like Will Smith in"Independence Day":"Take that, you bastard". If that sums up the human attitude towards an alien species, I'm disappointed.

And another thing: I had expected the nano-stuff Portia designed to be more used. All that work... for nothing. This was quite a let-down.

Still, a pleasant reading. And I appreciated the quite unexpected ending... read it to see what I mean.』

(Pure escapism)
『Although published as three separate books, the Tenth Planet trilogy should really have been released as a single compilation. None of the three books are able to stand on their own. As a set, they are a light but engaging read. These books are pure escapist fun, with stereotypical characters, some plausible pseudo science and a fast paced plot. As long as you are not expecting great literature like Gene Wolfe and are prepared for sci fi that is more in the spirit of Edgar Rice Burroughs, you will enjoy this series.

In the third and final book in this series, Earth and the Tenth Planet are locked in a battle for survival. Badly damaged and knowing that they are faced with extinction unless they can harvest most of Earth's resources, the Malmurians turn to their distant past and the spirits of their Elders to find weapons to subdue Earth. Meanwhile, the elite of Earth's scientists work frantically to develop new weapons in their fight against the alien menace.

If you enjoyed this series then you will probably like the Heritage Trilogy by Ian Douglas, which is far better written.』

(The whole novel is one climax)
『I must admit after the second novel of this trilogy I was slightly disappointed because it did not have an ending and it was too obvious that the editors wanted to make money because they knew readers had been hooked by the story so far. I still think that books two and three should be one book really. But the editors do not get stars (they would not get any star for their lousy selling policy!) But what a recompense! This book is one of the most exciting reads of science fiction I have ever read. It is breathtaking, full of nerveracking suspense, and you do not lay it down once you have started reading. The characters are well chosen, their motivations and actions very credible. Even the aliens do no longer appear as technically superior but a little stupid nevertheless. The authors give them a soul and more"humanity". In this way a kind of tragedy can develop. The two races will never be able to be on friendly terms with each other, for technical reasons and because of their conflicting struggles for survival. So the ending is not the common and triumphant"We have won!", but"What will be?"with a reflective sadness. A perfect book!

One piece of advice: If you want to read this book, make sure you read it after the two first ones. You will lose a lot if you do not read them in their numeric order.』
『2018: COUNTDOWN TO APOCALYPSE

Two worlds are locked in mortal conflict. The aliens of the Tenth Planet must harvest Earth's vast resources soon--before their world's elliptical orbit hurls them back into deep space for another 2000 years. If they fail, their species cannot survive the long journey into the void. This is their last chance to avoid extinction.

On Earth, scientists work frantically to stop the huge alien fleet, but even nuclear weapons have only slowed the attackers' dreadful onslaught. Now the ultimate battle for the fate of Earth--and all human life--draws near. And as more powerful weapons are brought to bear, winning the war may be more devastating than the invasion.

A thrilling science fiction saga of epic proportions, THE TENTH PLANET: FINAL ASSAULT delivers high-tech action and pulse-pounding drama that culminate in the explosive finale to a rousing trilogy.

(One of the best FFX Guides out there)
『Piggyback Interactive, a guide company in the UK, is known for making some high quality guides. Their extraordinary guide to FFX is just one of several great guides to be produced by them. This guide is jam-packed with tons of secrets not found in the BradyGAMES guide, and an in depth walkthrough that's not just for beginners, but for experts as well.

The game begins with the basics entitled "How to Play". Here they detail the battle system, the menu and everything you need to know to get started in FFX. They also point out a few basic tips that any soul gamer probably wouldn't have tried out.

The section about the sphere grid is nifty, but this brings me to my first thing to point out. This FFX guide, is for the INTERNATIONAL version, as well as the standard version. America got the Standard Version and Europe got both versions. So there is also detail on the Expert Sphere Grid. It isn't as BIG as the one in the BradyGAMES guide, but you can still use it.

Each character section is also detailed with how that character should act in combat. I would've really liked to have seen what they're section of the sphere grid looks like though, but I could do without.

The walkthrough is VERY detailed, helping you to get everything. The maps, for those who are curious, are about the same as they were in the BradyGAMES guide. But the walkthrough brings details to your attention that you would've never known. The walkthrough does tend to digress though, and they always feel the need to bring you up to speed. What does that mean? Plot spoilers. Quite a few of them too, but seeing as how I've already been through the game, I don't care. The boss strategies are very helpful, but again, there were some things BradyGAMES did that this guide didn't. BradyGAMES told me how much damage I had to do to get an overkill in the walkthrough, this guide forces you to flip to the back of the book. BradyGAMES also showed overkill AP you'd receive. With this, you have to flip to the back of the book.

The Bestiary in this guide is more complex than any other guide. Easy to use, but the info is all over the place. The most basic of basic info points itself out, but some of the other things you might want to know (AP you'll receive, etc.) is somewhat tucked away at the bottom of each monster.

The Blitzball section is about the only major problem I had with the guide. It goes so into the game it isn't even funny. You should be able to survive a pop quiz on blitzball after reading this book. The problem is, they don't say anything about the characters. Who can I recruit? What benefits come from recruiting them? In the BradyGAMES guide they told me the stats for EVERY player.

Lastly, the secrets. There are actually quite a few secrets pointed out here that the BradyGAMES guide didn't tell us. For example, if you want to know how to unlock all the monsters in the monster arena, and what their stats look like, then this guide is the one you want! You'll go into every battle prepared, and they give strategies for some of the harder monsters. They also give you a nice little AP trick that'll help your characters gain sphere levels faster than you ever thought possible.

I must remind you again, this guide also covers the INTERNATIONAL version, which had more secrets and goodies than the standard version. This guide talks about all the "Dark" aeons, and a hidden boss named Penance. In the standard American Version the Dark Aeons and Penance DON'T EXIST! So the guide isn't "giving out wrong info", it's just for a different version of the game.

Is it better than the BradyGAMES guide? Yes, for the sake of the monster arena alone. If you truly want to find everything FFX has to offer, then pick up this guide instead. You'll have to import it though, and that'll cost you a hefty amount. Still an awesome guide.』

(A True FF Title, But Not As Legendary)
『Final Fantasy VIII defintely has the look and feel of a true Final Fantasy title. The game plays well and tells a great story. It is worth the purchase for the PC version even though the graphics were not upgraded from the Playstation version. I was personally happy when the game came to PC - I don't buy game consoles anymore.

FF8 is not the best Final Fantasy title out there. In my opinion, FF7 is the best, with FF6 and FF4 (3 and 2 in the U.S., respectively) tying each other for second. Then FF5 (not released in the U.S.), then good ol' FF8. (That's my list and I'm stickin' to it.)

I am going to assume that you are reading this review as an avid RPG gamer or a diehard Final Fantasy fan. With that assumption, I will leave out all the great details of the game since, as I said before, FF8 is a true Final Fantasy title. Therefore, you know it rocks. But I'd like to focus on the drawbacks if I may be so bold, and explain why it ranks below the Super Nintendo versions and its PC predecessor. All in my humble opinion, of course.

First, the magic system for FF8 is the greatest drawback in my opinion. It removed the idea of magic points (MP). In the old titles, if you had 350 MP, and you used a Cure 2 spell, it would decrement to 325/350. You'd have to replenish eventually or simply run out. In FF8, however, the magic you use depends on two factors: (1) you have to "Draw" the spell out of enemies (the amount you draw determines how many times you can use the spell), and (2) the strength of the magic you use is determined by the amount you drew (up to 100 effectiveness/capacity).

If that all sounds confusing to you, it is. It still doesn't make any sense to me, and I think it almost killed a great game. But Squaresoft is reknowned for altering each release with something totally different. Too bad the magic system in FF8 was such a flop.

Second, the funnest part of the other titles, I thought, was the coordination of items (like weapons and relics) to progressing skills. (Which FF7 nailed perfectly.) FF8 only allows a milder version of this coordination. Character development isn't such a focus in FF8, I think.

Lastly, to be quite honest, the most fun part about the entire game of FF8 for me was the card playing - not the actual game itself or the storyline. In fact, exploring the FF8 was actually dull for me! (I was surprised to learn this, too!) But when I found places to play that wonderful little numbered card game, I found myself spending hours doing just that. I was hoping Squaresoft offered a side version of the card game that I could trade FF8 in for.

The card game for FF8 was supposed to be like the Chocobo development offered in FF7. However, like I said, the card game turned out to be the best part of FF8.

To give some slight pros, I would say that the creatures with which you do battle were rendered quite nicely in FF8. I also appreciate a lot of the bosses (especially the Twins). The graphics are also good enough for the RPG genre - I don't complain about that stuff when playing RPGs.

To close, if you never bought FF8 and stuck with only FF7 and your Nintendo titles, you'd be alright, in my opinion. But if you want it all, FF8 is not a total waste.』

(Time never ages this game)
『I played this game for the first time on the Playstation console. It was my starting point to the FF series. I had alot of fun with this game and I was impressed with the large story that unveils over 40+ hours of game play. Now 5 years after I played the game on playstation I have started the series again on the PC. Just as it was 5 years ago the game is still just as fun as I remembered. The story draws a personality with the characters that you can lose yourself in. Excitement and, sadness to action and, drama, this game is number 1 in my heart. Most people, as said in previous reviews, love this game 100% or, hate it 100%. most who hate this game love FF7. I have not played FF7 all the way through (only first 5 minutes) but, this game is still my favorite. However, I would like to see FFX and FFX-2 on PC.』

(A Titular Entry in the Final Fantasy Series)
『I got started on the RPG video game trail when I was a young lad playing Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars on my Super Nintendo (also from Squaresoft/Square Enix.) Since then I've played many, from Final Fantasy VII to Shadow Hearts: Covenant to Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose. But the one game out of all of the RPGs that I played never affected me in the way that Final Fantasy VIII did.

At first I found it a bit confusing. The Junction system baffled my mind until about six hours into the game, and occasionally I was given a lot of overworld freedom without enough of a description of where I should be going, leading to frustrating games of Trial and Error.

But I remember seeing the graphics at the time and being floored. I thought they looked photorealistic, and while they look slightly dated today, they haven't aged badly.

The real meat of the game comes from its story though. At first it seems fairly cliched. Quiet mercenary hero, stirrings of an oppressive military regime, damsel in distress, etc.....But soon I was shown the most complex, diverse world I've seen in a game other than The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

The characters all felt truly human; I was attached to them like no other characters in a game. I felt their pain, I felt their happiness. Even the seemingly stereotypical evil rival of the main character, Seifer, inspired sympathy from me.

In an effort to make the all the characters seem tied to each other, though, Squaresoft made some things feel a bit convoluted during the middle.

But all in all, the game captivated me. The story felt real and right to me, and I couldn't have been more satisfied with the ending.』

『With its tremendous success, it's not surprising that Squaresoft and Electronic Arts have ported the mammoth Sony PlayStation role-playing game,Final Fantasy 8,to the personal computer. However, current personal-computer hardware obliterates the PlayStation's capabilities; althoughFinal Fantasy 8offers hours and hours of addictive role playing, its game-play graphics and sound effects aren't up to par with the PC's best.

Gamers dive into the role of Squall, a scruffy cadet of SeeD, which is an elite military unit formed to fight the war brought on by a nefarious sorceress. The game opens in The Garden, a collection of training communities for SeeD members, where Squall must perform several tasks before completing his enrollment. Squall encounters dozens of unique nonplayer characters during his journey (some of whom join Squall in combat), and while the dialogue sequences are mostly brief, the characters exude personality through posture and animation.

DespiteFinal Fantasy 8's inconsistent game-play graphics--spell and combat effects explode with color, but background art and character models lack detail--its cinematic movie sequences are nothing short of breathtaking. Game play consists of completing missions and exploring new places to advance the story line. Along the way, you'll battle a diverse bestiary of enemies using weaponry, magic, or Guardian Forces (immense creatures summoned to assist during combat). If you're looking for a massive, story-oriented role-playing game with the best cinematic sequences you've ever seen,Final Fantasy 8won't disappoint. --Doug Radcliffe

Pros:

  • Addictive game play
  • Gorgeous movie sequences
  • Epic-sized game world
  • Dazzling spell and combat effects
Cons:
  • Game-play graphics and sound appear slightly dated
  • A console-game feel (no mouse support, etc.)

『More than a sequel to the top-sellingFinal Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8is an entirely new story, following the adventures of Squall, a young military cadet. Aided by an unusual group of allies, Squall must deal with a desperate rival, a powerful sorceress, and his strange dreams.

Set in a world where magic and technology coexist,Final Fantasy 8provides players with a variety of weapon, magic, and transportation options as they explore the vast game world. Maintaining the best features of its predecessor,Final Fantasy 8allows those familiar with previous games to easily adapt to the battle, menu, and exploration controls, while providing unique story-line elements, features, and minigames to make for a breathtaking new experience. Characters and backgrounds take on a much more detailed, realistic look through enhanced 3-D graphics and are seamlessly combined with nearly an hour of stunning computer-generated cinemas.』

(5 in 1 Start-up)
『Buying this release of FFXI for the PS2 allowed me to get everything in order on a newly formatted HDD. The price is a little steep since the other versions of this exact release are much cheaper on other systems. Overall it's nice to be back in Vana'diel.』

(Easy to get lost in another world)
『Final Fantasy XI online is an MMORPG worth investing in. The graphics are beautiful, the jobs are diverse, and you can choose from four different races of inhabitants. The cities are fully functioning with Mog Houses for the players, where you are assisted by a Moogle, auction houses from which you can buy practally anything or sell any unneeded gear, and many NPC inhabitants from whom you can gather information or take on missions.

It is easy to get lost in this world of Vana'diel in your efforts to escape daily stress or just immerse yourself in the game play. I play a mithra (cat person) with my main job being thief. The game play is fun and the developers have made it easy for incoming players to level quickly on their own. There are still many fights that take an alliance of 18 or more people to take down, and there is the possability of getting better pieces of eqipment from these fights. I would highly reccomend finding a linkshell (an ingame community of players who have similar interests and goals in the game) to get help with learning the ropes and eventually getting through the missions and higher level fights as you progress.

My only complaint (and the only reason I didn't give this a 5 star rating) is that many of the higher level fights take soooooo long. For example, as a thief there is an item highly desired called a swift belt. To get this, you have to fight in one area for an item to spawn the enemy that will drop the belt. You then have to go to the other area where you trade this item to ??? to get the mob to spawn. Through out all of this, you are also fighting other mobs in the area, due to agro or just to clear the area. You cannot solo a swift belt run and so many of the alliance may also have/need the item to pop the mob. Then there is the possable disappointment, as this is not a 100% drop. I was on the computer for eight hours, (I know, insane.) And no, I did not get the drop. It was that moment of revelation (that my life off the computer is much more fulling) that decided for me. I play the game as I want to but I refuse to spend more than four hours at a time/ ten hours a week on the game.

So, enjoy it. I do, really. Just take it all in moderation, it is after all, just a game.』

(Terrible UI; not user-friendly; horrible overall...)
『Ok, I have spent the last couple of hours trying to figure out the UI of this game. Perhaps I am not a computer freak, but I have played quite a few online games and have never seen anything less user-friendly. It should NOT be difficult to attack, run, adjust camera angle, etc. The map feature is ridiculous as well. Overall, this has been the worst game I have ever played (and that is saying something). Unless you are looking for an old-school MUD experience, I'd advise playing something more worthwhile. There has been incredible progress in the world of gaming and FFXI missed out somehow. Incredible, considering the wonderful experience FF games usually bring to the player.

I'm only writing this to save someone the hassle and frustration of attempting this disaster. Solitaire is more entertaining.』

(Great Buy)
『Great buy! Great Online game. I have been playing since 2003 and I have not been everywhere in the game yet. One of the best MMO's on the market to date. Thousnads upon thousands of players play. You will have no problem finding someone to play with on FFXI. The in game mentors are very friendly&they help you learn the game. This game haves more depth than World of Warcraft. I recommend this game to anyone that wants to get into a solid, stable, and developed MMO.』

(Great game if your going to start ff on ps2.)
『This is a great way to start the ff saga on the internet, and if your about to start the game its great. Its also really cool if you just want it for all the 4 expansions for the price of one.』
『Join in on the popular, long-running massively-multiplayer-online adventure! The Crystal War has ravaged the land of Vana'diel. Three solitary nations are now all that remain in the desperate fight for survival against the forces of the relentless beastmen. A call is put forth for new heroes to join the fight - heroes like you. How you play is entirely up to you - you've got the ability to customize every aspect of your character, a range of skills to discover and master, the choice to travel solely or as part of a team, and limitless possibilities for adventure! This epic collection contains the original game, as well as the Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urghan and Wings of the Goddess expansion packs.

(Unlimited stories from Final Fantasy)
『The music you find on this soundtrack is the music used in the background for the episodes of "Final Fantasy: Unlimited".

If you enjoy the FF series of videogames, you'll enjoy the anime. Unfortunately it was cut short towards the end of the season, so they hurried through the story in the last few episodes.

Here's a synopsis of the ANIME series:

The show is about Ai and Yu, two twelve year-old twins who travel into Wonderland, a mysterious parallel dimension, in search of their missing parents. Along the way they meet many strange new characters and travel to exotic lands in pursuit of their quest. All the while, the evil Earl Tyrant is holding the twins' parents hostage, and has had them brainwashed into working on his side to help him become more powerful. Tyrant desires to consume every world outside Wonderland, other worlds like our own, to become the ultimate power in the universe.

Can the twins and their friends, Lisa, Kaze and the forces of the Comodeen, stop the Earl and save their parents and the rest of the universe? Only time, and the next twenty-five action-packed episodes of FF:U, will tell...』

(It's not worth it.)
『I was quickly bored by both the arrangement and the quality of the performers, I didn't get it so expensive (over 60 bucks as of this writing) but still, it is already gathering dust on the unused cds box.

If you love final fantasy IV music, there are better offerings out there, including the music from the original cart.

If you love celtic music, there are loads of offerings out there that will not burn a hole in your pocket.

If you are a total fan that has to own all things FF...or totally deaf for quality celtic music, go ahead an get this.』

(A Celtic Touch to Final Fantasy's Bliss)
『Don't be confused. I hand out 5-star ratings only to what I consider ground-breaking in every aspect of an product's existence. But this is really a 4.5+ item.

Being a little Irish myself, I like to dabble in celtic sounds and celtic renditions of other songs. This album gives you a quality instrumental feel of some of Final Fantasy IV's compositions, but it still remains loyal to the emotion behind the notes.

If you're a die-hard FF fan, you shouldn't be afraid to own this, as it's both a good album and "alternative-soundtrack" that will add originality and variation to your collection.

If you prefer a more original-sounding soundtrack, this probably won't meet you with full force, but it is still a quality compilation that will break away (if only slightly) from a more strict fan's collection.

To a non FF-fan, the name Nobuo Uetmatsu might not resonate as well as it does within some of us in the deepest circles of Final Fantasy conosseiurs, however if you enjoy any bit of celtic feel, or if you're curious as to how this album stacks up as an alternative-soundtrack, I definately encourage you to purchase this.

Overall I rate it a 4.7. For me that's a pretty high score. Sound quality is perfect and selection is above the norm for a soundtrack album. I felt like it could have had a few more tracks listed, but that may be more of an inclination to the celtic theme than to the album itself.』

(Unique, Yet Beautiful Approach to Embolding a Classic)
『I'll admit, I am a sucker for instrumental music especially when used to do remakes for classics. Final Fantasy IV is a classic and it's music was unique for it's time that it focused more on emotional responses rather than happy-go-lucky themes that dominated games and RPGS alike during the late 80s and early 90s. To take things to the next level, musician Máire Breatnach remixed several key songs in traditional Celtic. Songs such as the Prologue and Rydia's Theme were transformed with the bouzouki, the harp and I think I heard traces of uilleann pipes.

The excellent mixture of Celtic and classic gaming music is amazing. Edward's Lute music is one of my personal favorites as is the prologue. Purists will be wooed by the amazing flow and flawless execution of this soundtrack. My only small criticism is that Breatnach probably should've had less pipes and more acoustic guitar sounds as it sometimes seems unnecessary but that could be a personal bias since I am a big fan of Paganini.

All in all, I recommend this soundtrack to all hard-core Final Fantasy fans, music lovers and anyone interested in Celtic; you don't have to be a video game fan to enjoy this selection!』

(I Love this CD.)
『From all Final Fantasy series, I am sure this CD is One of Nobuo`s best albums. Especially, Theme of Love is great song.
Whenever, I listen to this song, it makes me think about the great talent of Nobuo.』

(very interesting!)
『The Final Fantasy videogames without a doubt deserve their place in the videogame hall of fame. They have some of the best stories, gameplay, and challenge since the early days of epic gaming. But one important feature that is often overlooked is the music. Now, a lot of games have above-decent soundtracks, however very few have the power to move you the way a great piece of"regular"music would. This soundtrack, and the other Final Fantasy soundtracks, are just that, and that just goes to show that (most) videogame designers are artists who take their work very seriously.

From the opening track, with its harp scales, to the epic finale, the majority of the tracks on here are beautifully composed and mixed. True, it's all done on a synthesizer, but who cares!? The best tracks are Dancing Calbrena, Tower of Zot, Battle 1, Battle 2, Prologue, Golbez Clad in Darkness, Kingdom of Dwarfs, and Mount Ordeals, to name a few. If the album has a weak point, aside from the occasional hohum track, it would probably be the length of the tracks. With the exception of the finale and a few others, most of the tracks are under a minute long. It's not too much of a drawback, after all, these tracks repeat themselves over and over as you play the game, but it can still be a little bothersome.

All in all, this is a great album to listen to, so don't feel guilty just because it's not"real"music. This is good stuff.』
