(A Celtic Touch to Final Fantasy's Bliss) 『Don't be confused. I hand out 5-star ratings only to what I consider ground-breaking in every aspect of an product's existence. But this is really a 4.5+ item.
Being a little Irish myself, I like to dabble in celtic sounds and celtic renditions of other songs. This album gives you a quality instrumental feel of some of Final Fantasy IV's compositions, but it still remains loyal to the emotion behind the notes.
If you're a die-hard FF fan, you shouldn't be afraid to own this, as it's both a good album and "alternative-soundtrack" that will add originality and variation to your collection.
If you prefer a more original-sounding soundtrack, this probably won't meet you with full force, but it is still a quality compilation that will break away (if only slightly) from a more strict fan's collection.
To a non FF-fan, the name Nobuo Uetmatsu might not resonate as well as it does within some of us in the deepest circles of Final Fantasy conosseiurs, however if you enjoy any bit of celtic feel, or if you're curious as to how this album stacks up as an alternative-soundtrack, I definately encourage you to purchase this.
Overall I rate it a 4.7. For me that's a pretty high score. Sound quality is perfect and selection is above the norm for a soundtrack album. I felt like it could have had a few more tracks listed, but that may be more of an inclination to the celtic theme than to the album itself.』
(Unique, Yet Beautiful Approach to Embolding a Classic) 『I'll admit, I am a sucker for instrumental music especially when used to do remakes for classics. Final Fantasy IV is a classic and it's music was unique for it's time that it focused more on emotional responses rather than happy-go-lucky themes that dominated games and RPGS alike during the late 80s and early 90s. To take things to the next level, musician Máire Breatnach remixed several key songs in traditional Celtic. Songs such as the Prologue and Rydia's Theme were transformed with the bouzouki, the harp and I think I heard traces of uilleann pipes.
The excellent mixture of Celtic and classic gaming music is amazing. Edward's Lute music is one of my personal favorites as is the prologue. Purists will be wooed by the amazing flow and flawless execution of this soundtrack. My only small criticism is that Breatnach probably should've had less pipes and more acoustic guitar sounds as it sometimes seems unnecessary but that could be a personal bias since I am a big fan of Paganini.
All in all, I recommend this soundtrack to all hard-core Final Fantasy fans, music lovers and anyone interested in Celtic; you don't have to be a video game fan to enjoy this selection!』

(very interesting!) 『The Final Fantasy videogames without a doubt deserve their place in the videogame hall of fame. They have some of the best stories, gameplay, and challenge since the early days of epic gaming. But one important feature that is often overlooked is the music. Now, a lot of games have above-decent soundtracks, however very few have the power to move you the way a great piece of"regular"music would. This soundtrack, and the other Final Fantasy soundtracks, are just that, and that just goes to show that (most) videogame designers are artists who take their work very seriously.
From the opening track, with its harp scales, to the epic finale, the majority of the tracks on here are beautifully composed and mixed. True, it's all done on a synthesizer, but who cares!? The best tracks are Dancing Calbrena, Tower of Zot, Battle 1, Battle 2, Prologue, Golbez Clad in Darkness, Kingdom of Dwarfs, and Mount Ordeals, to name a few. If the album has a weak point, aside from the occasional hohum track, it would probably be the length of the tracks. With the exception of the finale and a few others, most of the tracks are under a minute long. It's not too much of a drawback, after all, these tracks repeat themselves over and over as you play the game, but it can still be a little bothersome.
All in all, this is a great album to listen to, so don't feel guilty just because it's not"real"music. This is good stuff.』

As a piano player, I only used to practice classical music but since I have bought these I have expanded my repertoire. They are very lovely to hear and enjoyable to practice. Each time I play them I develop more and more attachments towards the characters and appreciate the people who made them possible.』
(Better than Original...) 『Ever since I played Final Fantasy IX, I've wanted to buy a soundtrack of it. I thought of buying the Original Soundtrack, but it cost more than $25, and i didn't have that much money. So I decided on this CD and it was worth it. Most of the songs on this CD are even better than the originals, and I wasn't going to listen to most of the songs on the original so... It's worth every penny.』
(Best Piano Soundtrack Uematsu's written) 『I almost wonder if I've been listening to the same album as 'elwen'.
You're Not Alone was one of the highlights of this album in my opinion. I understand the comments of "sounds like two songs being played at the same time: a simple melody line, and a bunch of staccato notes and chords..." but I thought they added to the musical experience, and that only plays in that manner for the first minute or so, before becoming a much more complicated and sophisticated song. Though it does return to that first section of melody a little later, it doesn't dwell on it before coming the fuller, louder melody that is what sticks in my head when I think of this song.
... Also Vama Alla Flamenco is AKA Chocobo Hot&Cold, and was only played during that mini-game, not during a sword fight.
I loved this album to death. In my opinion it's the very best piano soundtrack Uematsu has written. FFIV&FFVI's piano soundtracks sound very amaturish compared to the compilations included in the piano soundtracks for Final Fantasy 7&9.
While Uematsu has yet to write anything to the degree of say, Beethoven's third movement of Moonlight Sonata, this CD contains a number of quite powerful piano arrangements.
Melodies of Life is one such example. It is by far the most beautiful piano song (aside from FF7's Aerith's Theme) Uematsu has released.
Other noteworthy songs on this CD include: Place I'll Return to Someday, Sleepless City Treno, and Loss of Me.
I would recomend this album to anyone who likes listening to piano music, and I can promise you that this music will stick in your head, if not by technical merrit, then certainly on it's beauty.』
(A Must Have For Music Fans!) 『This piano collection is great! All of the songs sound just as good or better, then on original soundtrack. I ordered the Final Fantasy IX original soundtrack a year or so ago, and it took me a while to get used to all the music. But now I love every track! So when I learned that there was a piano collection, I knew I had to get it. It may cost a lot of cash for only 14 tracks, believe me, it's worth it. There is almost an honor of music on this great cd!』
(Only because Final Fantasy is always the best...) 『...can I justify giving this CD four stars instead of five. The problem is that it simply doesn't live up to the previous piano collections like FFVI and FFVIII. And believe me, I know these songs inside and out: I listen to them and then I learn them from the sheet music.
The first problem with these songs is the simplicity. There are a lot more sections when you are just hearing one or two notes played together and rather disjointedly at that. There aren't as many blocked and broken chords that add depth to the songs beyond their melodies. Of course, there are exceptions. Eternal Harvest in particular is complex and even more exciting than the original.
That leads us to the second problem I found in this CD. Usually the piano arrangements of songs are comparable to the original, or they provide some different perspective to the song. In my opinion, the original soundtrack of Final Fantasy IX is one of the best of any video game out there, so I had high expectations for the piano collection as well. Unfortunately, in many cases the original songs are plainly better. Again, there are exceptions. Vamo' Alla Flamenco is amazing at capturing the mood of the lively sword fight to which it was played in the game.
The last complaint I have is that there are so many dischordant and jarring places in the pieces. One song, You're Not Alone, sounds like two songs being played at the same time: a simple melody line, and a bunch of staccato notes and chords that do nothing to add to the music.
All considered, I suppose it's still somewhat unfair for me to rate this CD a four. The key here is relativity. While I would probably recommend this collection more than I might recommend some CDs I would give fives, I would even more highly recommend the previous piano collections from the Final Fantasy series. All the same, if you're looking for the nostalgic, distinctive mood of Final Fantasy IX, this CD still fits the bill.』

(Interesting beginning, get more interesting moving forward, disappointing ending) 『I have been a Final Fantasy fan since version 1 of the game came out for the NES. I played through all the other FF games and loved each and one of them. Just because they are amazing developing games, it does not mean that they would do well developing movies or anime.
I got the movies through Netflix so I can watch them with my kids when I get home from work and relax. In the beginning of the story, it gave some scenes of war and destruction. The startoff was slow and have some mysteries like who is the adult woman hanging around with the two kids and who is the man with tha ma gun that always seems to show up when they are in trouble. It is very interesting to see what kind of summon comes out of the ma gun on pretty much every single episode, but the summoning takes like 10 minutes. Most of the creatures seems to be from FF7.
As the series go on, it reveal more information about some of the main characters. Toward the end, the plot is revealed but yet the end is disappointing because the watchers are wondered "what happened". It is like going to a roller coaster ride where right toward the end, it just stop and everybody get off.
I originally got the first DVD from the Block Buster bargain bin, and that should have been a flag that this is not really that good. Watch it if you have time to kill, otherwise you might be better off watching other anime like Full Metal Alchemists, Kenshin, etc.

(The Final Fatasy Games Maybe Great Bud Sadly This Anime Isn't) 『I bought this set during the X-mas sale online and for $20 dollars I felt it was an o.k. price but after seeing the series through I feel I'm now going to sale this to a movie store. I know the series focused mostly on the two children trying to find their parents but I also thought there would either be some cameos from characters of the games are have some references to the game worlds, sadly there was neither and the animation while not horrible wasn't anything to be proud of either. The voice actors for the Japanese cast did do a great job for their character roles sadly the dubbed English voice cast while not the worst of the lot leave a lot to be desired. Also again with some anime you just don't really feel any empathy for most of these characters, if one was killed or hurt so what? The storyline itself isn't to bad and if you've never played the games and are looking for a unique anime here's a decent one, but if you have played the game and are looking for some kid of reference to the games or game characters you'll be sadly disappointed. So at the end is this series worth getting will that's up to the person themselves, if you're looking for a fantasy anime with magical battles this might pique your interest, but if you're a longtime Fina Fantasy gamer you most likely want to just pass this series over....』

This book provides a nice look into how Final Fantasy The Spirits Within was created.
The concept art included are mainly designs of vehicles, sets, props and storyboards. Since this is a "Making of" book, it talks extensively about how the art is related back to the story. Among them are subjects like creating flames, flares, using motion capture for acting, composition and other general production techniques.
Character design is lacking in the book. Even though several pages are devoted to each character, there wasn't any concept art on how they come up with the characters. All that is included are the bio stats, film stills, and 3D rendered posed models.
This is a great book companion to the movie.

This one I can NOT pan. It is good!!! Well written, flows and counterflows with interesting twists, secrets and shows an good knowledge of history, people, military "machinery" and geography. Well, in fact it is believable, and (I'm sorry) probably could'a been written by Harry Turtledove.
While not giving away the plot, we've seen the "escapes" to South America before; We've seen the use of purloined gold before; We've seen the second and third party arms buying. BUT, we (to my knowledge) have not seen this particular twist on Hitler et. al., before. As much as I hate him and everything that he stood for (and its ideological continuation in this book) ...all I can say is what a good novel - "that ends well." Oh I know that I haven't said too much about the story with all its twists and turns. But if I get into it and its characters (and characterizations), I've thrown away the plot and story line - (or at least revealed too much - and probably did already). This one is worth the read...

That aside, the game is amazing, with an amazingly deep plot for the time period and plenty of options to customize your weapons and armor, four character traits that you can level up, and eight spells you pick up automatically through the game. (FFA) 『I remember a few years ago playing this game. This was my introduction to the Secret of Mana series even though I believed this to be part of the Final Fantasy series. Maybe they called it this because they didn't know that they were going to make more games with the Mana tree, so no sense in saying FFAII and FFAIII. But the story line is definatly great. You start out as [your name for charecter here] in a forteress where the Dark Lord uses people to play in gladiator like fights. This seems like some of the Final Fantasy games where you start off with normal life for the charecter and then you delve into a rich story line. When you escape the castle, you meet up with a man who was freshly slain by monsters and a girl crying at his side. After talking to her, she tells you that she is looking for an old man. I forget his name since the time it's been, and from there, the story line becomes increasingly better. It was way ahead of it's time where it has plot twists and can bring out emotion in you. I was sad after fighting Medusa (won't say what happened) and at the tree of mana (my lips are still sealed) I don't have this game anymore so I am planning on buying it to beat it again -it's that great! There is also a remake of this game called Sword of Mana for the GBA but has minor changes that are enough for me to shun it because it will ruin my thoughts on one of the most gripping original Game Boy games ever. Buy it now!』
(Simple graphics and yet lots of fun.) 『I have really enjoyed playing a series beginnings and this game is no exception. I first thought years ago that this was a Final Fantasy game but instead it is a Mana game like Secret of Mana. I remember playing this game and really liking it. It has a story and the graphics are not so sparse that you do not have to pretend the blue is water and the green is land, but rather when you go onto land, there is texture like trees drawn and a cave opening. If you need color graphics then this and other games of this age will not be your cup of tea. I on the other hand had a great time playing it.』
(a lot of fun, the first entry in the Mana series) 『The first thing to mention is that Final Fantasy Adventure is really part of the Mana series (Secret of Mana, Legend of Mana). This is, I believe, the first game in the series with the sequel being the excellent Secret of Mana for the SNES. I suspect that the reason for the name change is simply that Square thought that the Final Fantasy name would sell more copies when released in America. This is an adventure RPG.
Final Fantasy Adventure is similar to a Zelda game in that you control a character from the top down and wander around whacking enemies with your weapon (you get different weapons throughout the game). You must get clues to find where the next place to go is and what the next piece of the storyline is. It is as simple as finding and rescuing the princess, but is deeper than that with side story and the Mana Tree. Like other Mana games you do end up at the tree of Mana after a long adventure. When I first played this for the Gameboy I was about 12 years old (or so) and I loved it. This game was a lot of fun and exploring that world was at times a small challenge but overall was just a blast. It really isn't part of the Final Fantasy series (though you will see chocobos), but this is worth playing for fans of the Mana series as well as any who like old school games.』
