(Don't go to iTunes!)
『I first went to iTunes because they had the soundtrack. Oops, they didn't have the first track of the first disc! I didn't want to buy the whole thing with-out the first track, so I got the original soundtrack. It's just like the game, except that the vocal tracks are in Japanese, which would be great for anyone who's learning Japanese. The one thing that I wish Square-Enix would do is make the english tracks of Real Emotion, 1000 Words mix, and the 1000 Words orchestra tracks available for their non-japanese speaking fans. I don't want to spend 3 dollars and have restrictions from iTunes, so please take us into consideration next time.』

(Really, really great)
『It's a distinct diversion from the typical Nobuo Uematsu FF soundtracks of the past games (which I also love). The style is completely different, poppy but not too much so. As strange as this sounds, it's almost like a modern soundtrack for life, with different tracks applying to different feelings and situations. The feel and instrumentation of each track is varied and interesting, with a lot of synth work mixed with live instruments. Very much reccomended.』

(Could have been better)
『Ok, I know this has been said NUMEROUS times, yet here it is again: its not Nobou Uematsu, but its good. Actually, to me it was just OK. For what its worth, I did like the music enough to buy the CD, but I only really like about half of the CD. The music isnt BAD, its just that its the type of score that doesnt sound as good outside the game as it would when you are playing it. I think this can be attributed to the fact that this guy is a newbie to the FF music production, and obviously he has sizable shoes to fill in Uematsu's absence. Truth be told, this is pretty good for a first effort, but in the end, the music just didnt live up to the legacy left behind by Uematsu. There are definaly some good, stand out tracks on this CD, theres no question about that. I especially like listening to the newly composed scores to Guadosalam, Mt. Gagazet, Besaid, and a good few of the action tacks.

Obviously, you should buy this CD at your own discretion. If you are a true and faithful Final Fantasy fan, and a lover of its music, then you should have this in your collection just for the hell of it. There is enough here to keep you at least mildly satisfied. However, if your a super hardcore Nobou Uematsu fan (meaning you wont like it unless its him) then i wouldnt suggest you buying this one, because you might end up being mad that you did.』

(The True Essence of A Final Fantasy Soundtrack)
『Personally, I have nothing against ANY of the reviews I read but I don't think anyone really has a very consistent opinion about this soundtrack. Basically, it is what it is. A video game soundtrack. Which means, that every song will be entirely related to the events presented throughout the song. We cannot even begin to compare this soundtrack to the one from the previous Final Fantasy because the composers are different. We cannot compare Uematsu's work to these newcomers, who by the way, did an excellent job in delivering a new fresh sound, and took a big risk evolving the sound us gamers of Final Fantasy are used to. It was a bold move, a solid effort and a big sucess. It is a jewel to add to your collection of soundtracks if you wish. You would not regret, but truth be told, it is music that is solely different to anything you have ever heard before.』

(Not Uematsu (tired line, I know), and just not that great)
『Matsueda and Eguchi give the untraditional sequel an untraditional sound, which was nice in a way. However, the new sound isn't usually as good or well-written as Nobuo Uematsu's sound. Something I HATED about the music is that it doesn't use any of the themes from FFX! Even the tune of "Suteki Da Ne" just a few times would make me much happier. And it's not just the failed use of themes from X, it's no traditional themes from any of the Final Fantasy games. The music was a little too different.
Aside from that, the music is actually fairly good for the most part. The songs performed by Kumi Koda, 1,000 Words (Sen no Kotoba) and real Emotion (Kanjo Genjitsu), are by far the best. Her voice sounds very American, but she is still a great Japanese (Nihonjin) singer. These tracks get five out of five. There are far too many boring fillers, however, and the genre doesn't change enough; most of the filler tracks are upbeat Jazzy/70s sounding.
There are some more great pieces, such as the orchestral "Epilogue - A Reunion" and "FFX-2 Ending Theme," as well as several good background songs that give this soundtrack three out of five. It's not necessarily that the music isn't Uematsu, but that the music just isn't as good as his. Still good though, and worth the Import King's low price.』

(A must have!)
『I bought this as a christmas present for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it! He still listens to it every day. I'm not as big of a final fantasy fan as he is but I enjoy the music as much as he does. This cd is a must have for any final fantasy fan. Nobuo Uematsu is a genius.』

(Some of My Favorites of Final Fantasy)
『This is a good cd to have since you don't have to go and buy individual soundtracks to get the some of the more popular songs. I was happy it had the old version which is my favorite of One Winged Angel, Liberi Fatali and Fragments of Memories are great as well and are more well known. Though I am not the biggest fan of the piano tracks they were very nice since I had never heard them. Some of the music was new to me so I liked that I got to hear more music than what I was familiar with. Overall all the tracks are not my greatest favorites but it still has a good amount of them on the disc. If you are a big fan of Final Fantasy music I would say this is a must have. I also enjoy the music from a musicians stand point since I have recently taken up the violin this soundtrack is even more enjoyable.』

(The Best Final Fantasy CD I've Listened to!)
『I made this review a few years ago under a different account (my username now, but it has quotes around it. Have no idea how that works.) That hasn't changed my opinion of this CD, though, and even after two or three years I still listen to it over and over again.

I originally bought this CD for the FFVII songs, which are the World Theme (track 3), One-Winged Angel (track 8), and Aeris's Theme (track 13). My brother owned this CD before I went out and bought it and when I heard these three songs, I was instantly hooked. The songs are orchestrated, and there is a lot of life put into each of them. I've listened to the World Theme enough times that I practically have it down to memory, and Aeris's Theme evokes a tide of tearful emotions from just remembering her final scene in the game.

As I continued to listen to the CD, a few others quickly became my favorites as well. Most, if not all, of the piano pieces are absolutlely beautiful and extremely well-executed. I'm not usually big on piano pieces, but this person is an expert and plays it wonderfully and smoothly. Track 2 is a definite favorite.

The rest of the tracks are really well done, as well, and I'll point out the last one as I close. It's sung in the original Japanese, and I loved the song so much that I had to buy the FFIX soundtrack so I could get the English translation. The song is beautiful and the CDs were definitely worth the money for everything I've gotten out of them

The only beef I have with this game is that they didn't add "Prelude". I believe that is a major Final Fantasy staple, but other than that, I absolutely enjoyed the CD and I believe you will, too.』

(Great CD)
『For those who have played FF, you'll remember a lot of melodies in this CD, now with a full Orchesta arrangement, which makes them sound much better, and which makes this CD totally worth your money. Some of them are piano arrangements which sound really good too. The sheet music can be found on the net, and there are really nice melodies to play for those of us who play the piano. It is defenetely a must have for FF fans.』

(Check for availability when ordering!)
『I want to encourage anyone who's interested in this CD to make sure it's in stock first. I had it on order for 4 months without hearing so much as a peep about it. Whenever I would write to inquire about it, Amazon informed me that the supplier is out -- starting in October, and continuing on to this month (Jan. of '06). Finally today, I canceled it and will be purchasing another FF soundtrack. So, if you want this CD (and I'm confident from owning "N Generation" that it is good, hence why I can rate it confidently), more power to you -- simply make Amazon promise you it's available first. The listing of "Ships within 4-6 weeks" is simply false information.』

(Pretty good slasher sequel)
『Urban Legends 2 - Final Cut is about a group of students at a film college who are competing for an award called The Shakespear Award which will pretty much guarantee them a place in Hollywood with their movie. The main charactor is played by Jennifer Morrison (STIR OF ECHOS) and she has an idea of making a horror movie about a serial killer who's murders are based on Urban Legends . . . but someone is killing off her cast and crew. In this movie nobody is safe and everybody is a suspect. This is an above average slasher movie with a reasonably good cast. The only problem I had with this movie was that, with the exception of the first death (which was also the best and the only gory in one in the movie), I hadn't actually heard of any of the "urban legends" before. This didnt't really spoil the movie but I just thought I'd warn people in case you were dissapointed by this. As well as horror this movie also managed some humour which I usually like in a horror movie. The DVD has:>Directors Commentary>Making-of and Behind-the-Scenes Featurette>Theatrical Trailer>Deleted Scenes Overall an enjoyable movie which I recommend for fans of horror.』

(A Perfect Sequel)
『i loved this movie
it is the entry in the urban legend series
i love every single urban legend so much
i recommended this movie highly!』

(Urban Legend 2)
『The scene on the bathtub alone makes the movie worth a look. The lead is great (Jennifer Morrison, from 'House M.D.'); cinematography and music are also appropriate. Not very original and the killer's revelation at the end is kinda dumb, though. Still, worthy sequel. Too bad UL3 (Bloody Mary) was awful beyound words and has nothing to do with either UL or UL2.』

(Good, But Definitetly Far From Great!!)
『I was excited to see "Urban Legends: Final Cut" because I remember seeing a commercial for it on television, yet never remembering its name. I found it here on Amazon, and I remembered instantly the commercial.

Okay. The storyline was good, but it was pretty badly played out. I mean, the deaths were good, but started to deteriorate throughout the entire movie. The first death was incredible, but then it just got boring and unoriginal.

The acting was good, I thought, and the killer was VERY mysterious and VERY creepy and original. I don't think a killer actually SCARED me before, but the costume in this movie was actually very mysterious and kind of freaky.

It was cool to see some of the most infamous urban legends played out in this movie, like the "people can lick too" story. No wonder the movie is called Urban Legends!!

Overall, this was an okay movie, which was good, but it was cheesy and very unoriginal and kind of boring at some parts. But it is definitely worth a try!』

(A Very Good Sequel)
『This movie is an excellent follow-up to the original "Urban Legend".

The story centers around several film production students who attend the prestigious Alpine University film school; called "the best film school in the world" by one of the school's professors. Travis, the school's top student, has just turned in a sub-par thesis film for which he receives a low grade. Amy Mayfield (Jennifer Morrison) has decided to do her thesis film about a fictional campus serial killer who kills his victims by using urban legends. She brings her idea before her film professor and he seems to think that its an excellent idea. Both Amy and Travis are vying for the all-important Hitchcock film award, which carries a $15,000 prize and a virtual guarantee of a Hollywood film career.

Amy begins working on her project, and all seems to be going well initially until, mysteriously, students begin to turn up missing and, eventually, dead. The students have been killed by using urban legends, just as Amy has in her film. Additionally, Travis has killed himself in despair over his low grade, but someone stole Travis' original film and took credit for themselves.

Meanwhile, Trevor, Travis' twin brother, has come to Alpine to help solve Travis' death. Trevor doesn't believe that Travis killed himself, so, with Amy's help, the two begin searching for answers. Meanwhile, more students have been killed by the serial killer. Will Travis and Amy solve the murders before the killer reaches them?

This is a surprisingly good movie. The plot is excellent and it keeps you guessing right up to the end as to who the killer is. There are several suspects revealed throughout the film, but the killer's identity isn't revealed until the end. It was fun for me trying to figure out who the killer was. Of course, no horror movie would be complete without blood and guts, and this movie has plenty of both.

I recommend this movie very highly. No one is safe and everyone is a suspect. The story is well-conceived and the viewer will be kept guessing until the shocking conclusion.』

『WhileUrban Legends: Final Cutis not nearly as terrifying or inventive as some of its predecessors, the film does offer up a fairly suspenseful whodunit that fans of the teen horror genre will likely appreciate. Amy Mayfield, the film's heroine (played by fresh-faced Jennifer Morrison), is the daughter of an Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker trying to make a name for herself at Alpine University, "the greatest film school that ever existed." Along with several other students she is competing for the coveted Hitchcock award, which virtually guarantees the winner a successful career in Hollywood. When the film school's resident genius and likely winner of the award is found dead, suspicions arise. As other film students are killed off one by one, everyone becomes a suspect. Would someone kill to win the prestigious award?

While striving to be Hitchcockian in theme (as evidenced by its multiple references to the director himself), the film never quite moves beyond cliché. Many scenes are a little too reminiscent of other popular teen horror flicks likeScream(the anonymous masked killer, though not nearly as frightening),The Blair Witch Project(Amy is chased through desolate woods by her stalker), andFriday the 13th(Amy hides from the killer in a lake setting eerily similar to the one where Jason died so many years ago). These elements seem just a little worn out. Morrison gives a serviceable performance, and Loretta Devine, from the originalUrban Legend, adds humor as a Foxy Brown-worshiping security guard. The film manages to keep you guessing until its conclusion, and a sequence set in an abandoned amusement park is truly creepy. But ultimatelyUrban Legends: Final Cutlacks the originality to make a name for itself among the many films of its genre.--Mindy Ruehmann

(It looks like an overlong episode of The outer limits)
『Cheap production, weird story, good atmosphere and two competent actorsin a film wich should last no more than 70 minutes. A man who wakes up in a strange place not knowingwho and where he is surely is a cliche, but here the cliche becomes intriguing. The movie has three distinct parts. the first one, when the viewer, probably a sci-fi fan like me, thinks he has just made a mistake watching it, because really it does not look a scifi movie. The second part, where the viewer gets caught in a mysterious situation(is the guy really in the future? Is this really a worls devastated by a plague? Are the guys in the hospitalsome kind of survivors?)and knows this IS a good scifi plot. The third partwith the surreal ending confuses the viewer...is it or is not a scifi movie? Watch it and decide...It should have been made in black and white, in less than 70 minutes. It would be a very good episode of the original The outer limits...』

(Save the best for last)
『I didn't really know what to expect from this movie, as I hadn't read much of the reviews. The beginning is kind of slow and boring, but one feels intrigued to see what is going to happen. It is an interesting movie, although a bit sad. The 4 stars are because , as I said, the beginning could be a little more enticing. All in all, would recommend it.』

(Slow but interesting)
『After discovering Denis Leary's awesome acting in Rescue Me, i decided i should try and find a few more.

I was pleasantly surprised with Final. Where other films have been completely panned, this one, thought the same might be critically said, i thought this film was quite interesting.

Though it can be confusing in places, there are some great moments in the movie. Denis Leary is quite good in this movie, i would say that it is one of my favorites. A highly underrated actor, Leary pulls off the frustration that would come with people told that the world as he knows it, no longer exists.

A slow moving film, but quite engaging.』

(More like a play than a movie)
『Maybe I was mislead by some of the raving reviews here, but after watching the movie I was somewhat disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I don't need the typical Hollywood "FX loaded but no story" kind of movies to feel entertained. But this one was a bit too minimal or "independent" for me. Especially, since I didn't expect that after reading the amazon description and the reviews for the movie.

Since the whole movie just took place in maybe four or five different locations (in the same building), it reminded me more of a theater play than a movie. Which isn't bad per se, but again not what I expected when reading something about a "great SciFi movie".

Last but not least I found the ending kind of disappointing. Although Denis Leary had his hero moment, to me it was left too unclear, if his sacrifice had lead to a success for human mankind or not. The sister of his doctor had died, before they could help her. Ok, bad for the doctor, but what did that mean exactly for the rest of the world??? No help for nobody? Or just bad luck for the doctor?

Anyhow, if you don't hang your expectations too high, are a big fan of Denis Leary or like the minimal SciFi approach, you might have a nice time watching this movie.

(Denis Leary is good)
『Coincidentally, I watched Resolution #9 a few days prior to watching this one. That movie showed a man descending into paranoia-- believing everyone is out to get him and conspiring against him for some type of experiment. This one also has a hero in a similar situation. However, here, there is doubt as to whom to believe.

Denis Leary is great in this role and the movie is interesting, although it's not a perfect film by any means.

He wakes up one morning in a mental hospital believing it is 400 years in the future. He believes he went into the hospital to do a cryogenic experiment on his finger 400 years ago and that he was put into a cryogenic sleep against his will. He believes that he overhears the hospital staff talking about giving him his "final" injection that will kill him.

He tries to enlist the aid of his doctor (played without emotion by Hope Davis) who he begins to trust. As he begins to trust her, he starts doubting his own beliefs.

This movie has a great premise and almost delivers in its execution. Actually, it does, but it's not too satisfying. It's a good movie, but could have been a bit better had Hope Davis' character been a bit more emotional. The movie would have been better served had her character just been a bit less flat.

Recommended with some reservations. If you like the genre, you'll like the movie.』

(Joining in with the "this one was too cartoonish" chorus.)
『**Possible spoiler warning, proceed at your own risk**

Full disclosure: I only became a Nightmare On Elm Street fan recently, and I come to it from the Hellraiser fandom; a franchise that has had its own problems during its twenty-year run. And while other people score the second Nightmare On Elm Street film as the weakest in the series, I feel that description unfortunately applies to this one.

Believe me, it's not the fault of the actors here. Robert Englund is always awesome, Lisa Zane acquits herself well here as Maggie, veteran actor Yaphet Kotto turns in a likable performance, and the teen actors are all up to snuff. No, this film is a great example of what can happen when you have great-to-decent actors, and a director and screenwriter who seem to be trying to add to the mythology without taking it or their audience seriously at all. This is especially sad, because this movie could have been so much more than it was, considering what the director and screenwriter had to work with.

Let me clarify: In my experience, any horror movie franchise succeeds or fails on the basis of its mythology. There was already plenty of stuff in Freddy's past to work with, but this storyline could have been a lot more palatable in the right hands. I can see Freddy Kreuger having shown evidence of psychopathic behavior in childhood considering how he was conceived, and it certainly looks as if his origin story as the "Springwood Slasher" presents itself as the "perfect storm" of nature vs nurture (or lacktherof.) But Rachel Talalay camps it up so broadly that the impact of it is lost.

Same with most of the deaths - we get one serious, brutal, oldschool Freddy-style killing with the character Carlos. But then there is the incident with the NES power glove, which I think has gone down as the weakest killing in the entire series. It makes sense; back in 1989/1990, video games were not seen as the valid medium and potential art form as they are today. But it just seems as if the director is mocking Freddy, his victim, and the film's primary viewing audience (teens) all at the same time. Hellraiser had its lowest moment in the fifth installment with the infamous "Kung Fu Cowboys" scene; the Power Glove killing is Nightmare on Elm Street's equivalent.

Freddy has always cracked jokes and twisted teen pop culture into something he can wield back at his chosen victims. This is one of his attractions as a character, going back to the first film. But one of the reasons why this has worked so much better in other films in the series and not in this one is because Freddy's antics are only supposed to be funny to Freddy. I think part of the shock and horror factor of his murderous acts comes from the sheer sadistic amusement that he derives from committing them. In the first five films, we as the audience were able wince at the horrific and ironic nature of the killings (custom-tailored as they were to his individual victims) even as we appreciated Freddy's wit. But the killings in and of themselves are not supposed to be funny, or resemble something out of a Warner Bros. cartoon.

Also not supposed to be funny: an entire town suffering from the loss of its children, to the point of mass catatonia. Yet it was also played for laughs. And don't even get me started on the Dream Demons. As someone who is more used to Clive Barker's mythology and universe, I was expecting something more like the Iad Uroboros, the Big Bads of the from Barker's "Book of Art" series; H.P. Lovecraft-style horrors who thrive on human nightmares and are the reflections of the worst in humanity, who are just waiting to break through from the dream world so that they can consume all of waking creation. Instead, we got cartoonish tapeworm-creatures with adorably high-pitched voices that resembled refugees from a Jim Henson picture. These are supposed to be the things behind Freddy's gory and nightmarish rise to power?

In the late 1990s/early 2000s, Joss Whedon reminded us that it is possible to be clever, witty, and fun with a horror franchise while still respecting both the subject matter and one's target audience, and he did it for seven seasons with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. (Come to think of it - I'd suffer almost any privation for a Nightmare On Elm Street movie directed by Joss Whedon.) Wes Craven not only managed it with the first film in the Nightmare franchise, he did it again with the seventh film "New Nightmare," before scoring another hit with the Scream films. Ronnie Yu did it with Freddy vs Jason.

I had to go pop the fourth and fifth Nightmare on Elm Street films (Dream Master and Dream Child) back into the DVD player just to get over the disappointment of this one - which is regrettable, because the mythology of Freddy's daughter and origin deserved so much better than treatment it got in this film.』

『I was pleased with the product I purchased but was completely dissatisfied with the charges that amazon added onto my purchase after I had bought the item』

(The Worst is Saved for Last)
『I recently re-watched this again, and I have to agree, this was definately the worst of the bunch that I've seen (I haven't yet seen Freddy vs. Jason, so don't know how it would compare). I wouldn't give it 1 star, as I was somewhat entertained, but this was definately below average for so many reasons. One of the reasons I pick on the original was it's idiotic dialogue, (for example, Nancy asking her dad to "arrest" Freddy when she pulls him out of her nightmares), but the dialogue added humor to an otherwise very disturbing tale. Part 6, however, was lacking the chills that made all the other movies that much scarier. The stoner in the video game was interesting, until it showed his "real" body running around the house like a cartoon with those awful sound effects. But what I really found annoying about this movie was the story. Nancy had connections in the first 3 movies (as a character in 1 and 3, and her diary that served as a background in 2). The characters in 3 overlapped into 4, and the characters in 4 overlapped into 5. Amanda became a known character in 3-5. So in a way the stories were all connected. Then comes 6, where the only real connection to the other movies was Freddy. We learn Freddy was married and had a child, none of which was disclosed in any of the other films, that he needs his child to escape the boundaries of Springfield without knowing why, and that one child remains who may or may not be blood-related to Freddy, but where are his parents/adoptive parents? It felt as if they forced a story in order to finish Freddy off, and they didn't bother with trying to find connections to the first movie. Forget all of that, though, what about pulling Freddy out of the dreamworld into reality? What a plot twist!... Oh wait, wasn't that what Nancy tried to do in the first movie? Why didn't it work then? That's the question a lot of people have, and the only thing I can think is that it didn't work for Nancy because it was all a dream (which would seemingly mean she pulled Freddy from one dream into another?). In part 6, we do learn more of Freddy's past, but unless you've watched the other previous movies you don't know why he is what he is, and what led up to his birth in the first place. And the dream demons, while an interesting idea, seemed out of place and not handled very well. I know they are planning to remake the original, and from what I can tell they plan to relaunch it as a franchise. If the directors are listening, my opinion is to make it a trilogy (nothing more than that as it seems that movies tend to die after the 2nd or 3rd installment), and use part 1 as the basis of part 1 remake, part 3 as the basis for the remake sequel, and parts 4 and 5 as the basis for the remake's finale.』

(FREDDY'S DEAD!?? IF ONLY IT WERE TRUE!)
『I am reviewing the entire Nightmare on Elm Street series, but not this DVD release. I own the box set and I wanted to do individual reviews for each film.

OK, sometimes during a long run of horror franchises, the train derails! This is the case with Freddy's Dead The Final Nightmare. The 3-D gimmick for the last 10 minutes are pretty cool, but not enough to save this so-so entry in the series. The DVD transfer looks good and the 3-D sequence is pretty good for old school 3-D!』

(The best 3D movie experience for me (the only one to, LOL))
『In 1991 i would have been only been 8 years old and my older brothers still managed to sneak me in the cinemas, i will never forget this movie experience the staff gave me and everyone 3-D glasses when we sat down.

Fans let me be honest with you about freddy's dead, "ON THE BIG SCREEN THIS MOVIE ROCKS" i thought this was a good sequel it was a better movie then freddy vs jason which i also saw at the cinema's, i didn't like ANOEST.5: the dream child, only because of the fact that i had to always adjust my tv set this movie was to dark and to gothic like for me.

Im a big fan of the original 1984 film. I liked part 2, i thought part 3 was better then part 2, part 4 was ok, part 5 i didn't like and mentioned why, part 6 was good.

However wes craven's new nightmare was pretty ordinary in my eyes, i couldn't work out WHAT WAS REALITY (when nancy was nancy, or when she was acting as a real life person) AND WHAT WAS FANTASY (ie: a dream). This is ANOTHER movie i had to study a few times to get what's going on.

(An enjoyable guilty pleasure.)
『I really do not know how to rate this movie. At first I really did not care for the movie but recently it has begun to grow on me and it has become a guilty pleasure to enjoy. Therefore, I can see both sides of the issue of whether this was either a spectacular and extravagant way to end the Godzilla series or was it a catastrophic dud and cinematic train wreck?

This is basically a remake of the late 60s Godzilla classic "Destroy All Monsters" with hyped up special effects and nods to such modern day popular movies as The Matrix and X-Men. This movie has the flavor of the late 60s Godzilla movies which tended to be campy and way over the top while still being enjoyable. This tone marks a departure from the manner in which more recent Godzilla movies were made which tended to have the level of camp toned down to at least a digestible level.

This movie does play like a Saturday morning episode of Power Rangers hyped up on cough syrup with Godzilla and all of his friends thrown into the mix along with Law of Physics defying Ninja mutants and Matrix style aliens all vying to destroy the world and each other. So if that sounds like an enjoyable way to spend 2 hours then you may like this movie. If that doesn't sound like fun, then I suggest staying away.

Yes, this movie is silly, over the top with pretty good special effects, bad acting and cheesy corny dialog with an implausible story and many monsters fighting and trying to out maneuver one another with professional wrestling tactics which would make Hulk Hogan proud. As I said this movie has grown on me and falls under the category that it is "so bad it is good." This movie appeals to my inner nerdiness and I can accept it for what it is: a 50th Anniversary all-star campy Godzilla extravaganza.

(Oh, No! They say he's got to go, go, go - Godzilla!)
『This is one of the best Godzilla movies of all-time, in my opinion. It's got everything including a surprise visit from GINO (Godzilla In Name Only), the American version of Godzilla. It also has Kung-Fu Fighting aliens, Super-Powered Mutant Humans, Star Wars inspired space battles, Giant Monsters galore, and even a cute little baby Godzilla. Any movie that packs all of that into one package is okay in my book. This movie is just one big zany, fun-filled, action-packed giant monster slug-fest perfect for a Saturday Night monster movie marathon!

(Godzilla Evolutions)
『I write this review as warning and because I spent two
hours of my life viewing a film that I hoped would improve.

It evolved from Godzilla into the fifth unofficial Matrix
sequel. Someone should have reminded the director of exactly
what he was directing.

So, who's mocking who? Apparently, the U.S. was mocking
Japan's revered creature with their weak-fest, CGI version
starring Mathew Broderick and some terrified giant iguana.
Now, supposedly, Japan has ended their cash cow with this
sporadic mess, in which the director was possibly seeking
revenge by mocking the Matrix? We'll do to Neo what you did
to Godzilla? I don't think this is the case. I would say
the director reveres The Matrix series and sought to outdo
the Wachowski Bros. with a lesser budget of course.

All of the essential, aesthetic ingredients are here: black
attire, emotionless acting and gravity-defying martial
arts. Instead of the Japanese Neo stopping primitive bullets,
the director had him freeze lazers in mid-air... I was waiting
for him to grasp one and stare at it dumbfounded. These
things make up about an hour and a half of "Godzilla
Evolutions", and it is done ineffectively. The remaining 30
minutes is spent on what we paid for: monsters. The cameos
they have are rushed and comical to the point of cringing.
The only highlight being the climactic end battle between
Godzilla and King Ghidorah, the scenes that the director
probably did grudgingly.

Every once in awhile I enjoy a good campy Godzilla flick,
watching model buildings being destroyed and people running
around frantically is good quality entertainment...
unfortunately this movie isn't it.』

(Wasted opprotunity)
『Ryûhei Kitamura (Versus (Director's Cut)) drops the ball with this, the 50th anniversary Godzilla film. First - and I hate to say this because I love a good monster mash as much as the next monster geek - there are way too many monsters in this film. With so many creatures battling for screen time, things get cluttered very quickly. It reminded me of the "monster rally" films that Universal made at the end of their monster series. While I loved seeing Hedorah for the 3.1 seconds that he was onscreen, I have to question whether he even needed to be there in the first place (Yes, I know thatI am in the minority for my love of Godzilla Vs Hedorah but that's another story!). I also have to question why Ebirah (Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster) gets a big scene when he was never a big player in the Godzilla universe. Also, Kitamura works hard to "update" the Godzilla formula by adding slickHollywood-style visuals and employing MTV-ish editing that just doesn't work. While the Godzilla films have taken elements from American films in the past (Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah / Godzilla&Mothra: The Battle for Earth), they seem a bit more prevalent here and, as such, are all the more irritating. The story also lifts elements from numerous Japanese sci-fi films of the past (Gorath, Destroy All Monsters&Invasion of Astro-Monster (aka Monster Zero)to name a few) but adds virtually nothing new to the mix. The music is also sub-par. I am a big fan of Keith Emerson's soundtrack work (see Inferno) but his style does not mesh with the kaiju eiga (monster film) genre at all. I am not familiar with the other composers but the same goes for their contributions to this soundtrack. The Sum 41 song that plays over the battle with the American G&the Japanese one seems out of place as well. The acting&dialogue are nothing to write home about (the whole Matrix-y "chosen one" thing is wearing a bit thin). This includes Akira Takarada (Gojira / Godzilla Deluxe Collector's Edition (Gojira/Godzilla [1954] / Godzilla, King of the Monsters [1956])) and Kumi Mizuno (Frankenstein Conquers the World / Frankenstein Vs. Baragon). On the plus side, Godzilla looks good as does Monster X. The new Ghidorah at the end of the film is decent but not as impressive as his past incarnations. Some of the all-too-brief battle scenes are staged well but having Godzilla beat the enemy monsters in a matter of minutes gets tiresome after a while. All in all, this is a wasted opportunity&a sad goodbye for an old friend. In my own opinion, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack would have made an infinitely better 50th anniversary G film. Note: the two stars that I gave this film include a half of a star for the scene of the American G getting pummelled by the real thing.』

(It's OK for what it is)
『This movie is OK for what it is. If you want action packed popcorn entertainment and some monster fights get it. Personally, I would have liked to see the movie take itself a little bit more seriously, but really, the only serious godzilla movie I've seen in the first. It is true there could have been more monster fighting, but I think part of the problem if the movie length. If we had the same amount of monster fighting in a 90 minute movie I don't think there would so much complaining, but this film is 2 hours. Another issue is that the movie rips off the Matrix and Star Wars, and is full of cliche...(if they took that out and made it more dramatic). Don Frye is as badass as as anyone could be, otherwise the other characters didn't interest me too much...they were too cliche.
Look, it's a fun action movie, if you are going to enjoy it on that level you'll be happy.』

(Had to have these...)
『I watched these as a teenager and had to have them - great low budget horror series with a unique idea.』

(the final season)
『i got it when it came out and i have been watching the whole series. i just started watching season 3 last night and i can,t believe how awful the opening title looks and the credits look awful. after watching seasons 1 and 2 where everything looked great, i was shocked at how bad the credits looks, seeing how good they looked for seasons 1 and 2. i hope they remaster season 3 sometime after how good the other seasons looked. as far as extras go, i have come to expect no extras for these older shows. I,m happy to have the previews for each episode but i would rather see more then that. how about new interviews with the cast or mybe some out takes. I,m just happy to finally have season 3 on dvd and to finally own the whole series on dvd. This has been one of my fave shows since i was a kid. i remember watching it right from the shows start in 1987. After watching all the episodes, i wish someone would do a tv movie to finally give us fans a ending to friday the 13th the series.』

(The FRIDAY set I've been waiting for since season 1's failure.)
『I'm happy to announce that today, I received my copy of FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE SERIES - THE FINAL SEASON on DVD. (The box states there are 19 episodes, but not to fear: "The Prophecies," often seen as a 2-parter, originally aired as a 2-hour episode, and is included uncut in the set.) I looked at the back cover for evidence of bonus features, and it said, and I quote: "Special Features: Promos on Selected Episodes"!

I've been pretty vocal about my dislike for the previous two season sets, with their near-total lack of extras and, most noticeably, the glaring omissions of the pre-titles sequence from every episode, and for the hardcore fans, the lack of the 30-second promos for the next week's episode. Leave it to me, a fan of the show from 1988 (not quite the beginning) to notice and be bugged by these things. So the "Special Features" note on this set was something I was too curious about.

So far, I've only gone through disc 1, but it appears MY prayers, at least, were answered--to a degree. Not only does "The Prophecies" have the opening pre-title sequence ("Lewis Vendredi made a deal with the devil...") intact, but also, all episodes on the disc have the original 30-second episode promos, very nearly as they appeared during the original airings, complete with the red band across the screen denoting an "All-New Episode."

Why are they "very nearly" as they appeared? Well, do you remember at the very end of the promos, when they showed the tombstone with the F13 logo, the announcer said something like, "Next week, drive like the devil!"? (Bonus points to the fan who can identify that particular episode!) Well, they edited out that part of the audio from the promo. CBS/Paramount has them, master and all! (If they didn't have the masters of the promos, then they would have been unable to separate any audio, as music and dialogue would be on the same "tracks.")

I'm afraid we don't have all the promos--six are missing from this season ("Mightier Than The Sword," "Epitaph For a Lonely Soul," "My Wife as a Dog," and "Jack-in-the-Box," as well as those for the component halves of "The Prophecies"), and definitely we won't see the promos from seasons 1 and 2 on these discs. I have to at least give CBS/Paramount kudos for restoring the promos in this set, and giving us the 30-second opener for the first time in the sets!

What about the episodes themselves? Well, Johnny (introduced in 2 episodes from season 2) is no Ryan (who departs after the first episode in this set), but aside from him, we do have an exciting season where the writers experimented with different types of curses. If the show hadn't been shut down by parents' groups, we would have likely seen even more of a departure from the previous seasons like in this collection of episodes.

Rating: 4 stars. Not perfect, but this is the set I wish we'd received for seasons 1 and 2, and I'm very happy.』

(No hockey mask, just spooky fun!)
『Although this series has a dark theme (and is darkly shot as well) if you enjoy dark drama then this series has a lot to offer. I have read many criticisms of this series and have to admit they are all TRUE! Of course that is like listing the faults in your favorite aunt Marge's complexion (wrinkles, warts etc) and not mentioning her sugar cookies that were your favorites or the way she held you close and comforted you during the scary lightning storm. I have very fond memories of this series and seeing it again just brought them all back. I enjoyed the characters. They were easy to understand and empathize with. The concept was simple in principle but convoluted in execution. I enjoyed when staying up late enough to watch a scary show like this (days of broadcast tv) was a guilty pleasure, an indulgence. I am delighted to see the series come to DVD finally after all these years. I would have bought bootleg but I wanted to see the actors and writers get some cut for the work that brought me many hours of enjoyment.

Don't expect the world from this series... and you will not be disappointed. Accept it for what it is, and measure it against the standards of it's day. What a perfect thing to watch on an october evening!』

(if you actually enjoyed fri13th, then you'll love...)
『Even as a kid I remember laughing at the UNintentionally funny series. I recall the lame attempts to generate any kind tension or spookiness.... The actors to their credit, gave it their all. Sadly, every episode follows the same formula. No mystery, no changes to characters. No consequences or carryover at all. Of course episodic TV was norm back then.

The 'haunted' articles had nothing to do with the Friday 13th movies. So forget about any real horror elements. This series might've worked better as a written anthology... Nah!

If you actually enjoyed fri 13th, then you'll love Warehouse 13. Engaging stories. Weird artifacts. Real Actors.
Conspiracy. Get this, the characters actually evolve! Thats right folks, real character developement.』

(does not age well)
『7.9 THE FILM ITSELF
6.9 VISUALS
7.5 SOUND
7.0 PACKAGING
8.4 EXTRAS

Remembering that Final destination came out in 2000, it's easy to see how old the film looks - especially on blu-ray. But even more so, the dialogue, the some what hammy / cheesy acting and just how young the cast is makes you understand you are not watching an Oscar award winning film.

Final Destination is an above average thriller / horror flick that deals with a young man who has visions of death. When he escapes the "death" that was imminent, the count down is on until death "catches up" to those who escaped. It's an interesting premise and it's handled decently. But after 9 years, it's certainly not the most engaging of stories, it sometimes doesn't really hold your attention and the characters feel cookie-cutter at best. But if you're looking for something different and slightly entertaining, you can do a lot worse than Final Destination.

VISUALS 6.9
There's no reason this should be bought on blu-ray. It looks okay at best, but for visual nuts they will certainly call this "horrible". From the bad haircuts that are really shown well here to the blotchy skin / makeup, some movies just should be left on DVD. Of course, being 9 years old doesn't help, but I've seen movies had 20 years ago that look stunning compared to this. It seems like no remastering has been done here at all.

SOUND 7.5
It's good, but nothing special. And after listening to the entire "isolated score" feature, I'm even more less impressed with this than I originally was. The rest of the sound - dialogue and explosions - are better, but still, nothing that makes you crank up the surround sound or anything.

PACKAGING 7.0
No main menu, the movie just starts with a menu bar that pops up on the bottom. The cover kind of resembles a cheesy teen-horror / action flick, and that's exactly what the film is.

EXTRAS 8.4
Two commentary tracks, one of which is really good (the one with the crew) while the other is average at best (the one with some of the cast members). There is a feature that is commentary by the composer as the entire score is presented over the dialogue. I never listened to one of these before, and this was not a good first selection for a film to do so on. The score just isn't that interesting here and the dialogue is "blah" at best.

"The Perfect Souffle: Testing Final Destination" is an inyteretsing feature I have never seen again. The creators talk about what a testing piece does for the film and what changes after it. Kind of interesting, but glad more films don't have this as it won't be watched by many fans.

"Premonitions" is an obnoxiously cheesy piece about a woman who believes she has the power to see when people are dead or in danger, and that she can see the future. Maybe if she didn't try to force her kids to believe it (that's how it seems anyway) it wouldn't be so bad, but this just seems like a family that will be in the news one day for joining a cult or something.

Then there are 3 deleted scenes that show a radically different ending. These are good because it shows just how far off the ending was, but they're bad because this ending is a horrible decision. So I'm glad they changed it and this is a very interesting original ending.

FINAL VERDICT
Final Destination is a decent film that offers something new to a tired genre, but it certainly hasn't aged well in the 9 years since it was released. The special features are impressive, but aside from the crew commentary and the shocking alternate ending there isn't much substance here.

8.1/10 "IMPRESSIVE"』

(great horror that deserves the many positive ratings and reviews)
『The first Final Destination is actually a really good horror film. It's significantly better than the third Final Destination movie (that's the one with the carnival and roller-coaster ride segment, right? I like this one a LOT more).

The only flaw with this film is that the first 20 minutes start off rather predictable, but give the story some time to develop and I believe you'll find yourself really getting into it.

Maybe it's just me, but I found it kind of disrespectful that they'd keep playing John Denver's classic "Rocky Mountain High" throughout the film. The song plays whenever something bad is about to happen.

It's disrespectful because, as you probably know, John Denver lost his life in an airplane accident a few years before this movie was created and released. The writers should have honestly picked a different song.

Now about the storyline. Are you the kind of person that believes you can cheat death? If so, do you believe if you happen to cheat death that death will rear its head shortly after in ANOTHER attempt to take your life? These are the kind of serious and curious questions that many of us probably ask ourselves, and these same questions are the reason this kind of horror is a few steps above the generic slasher kind (and honestly, slasher flicks are the kind of horror stories have been done to the point of exhaustion by this point).

I often wonder about these questions personally, though obviously it's important not to let these questions interfere with enjoying your life. But it makes you wonder exactly what your destiny is and when it will happen, doesn't it?

Anyway, great horror suspense.』

(Extremely Underrated Sci-Fi Movie)
『Final Destination has an interesting concept. Death hunts people who overcame his plan for them. A script originally written for X-Files, it is intelligent, cerebral, and witty. It is not your average "kill-teens" flick. Each teen has their own personality and you can actually tell the difference between all of them. You sympathize with the teens and hope they don't die; instead of rooting for the killer (in this case Death itself). The teens have actual intelligence and are not idiots. The cliffhanger ending is truly excellent.
Among the Final Destination series, this is the best. Final Destination 2 (second best) suffered (in my opinion) from a relatively happy, hopeful ending compared to this cliffhanger ending; the new life concept seemed too hopeful. The Final Destination (third best) was relatively good but suffered from "show everybody die and not leave mystery" syndrome. Final Destination 3 suffered from stupid characters who no one cares about syndrome.』

(Useless, dumb POS movie)
『As they are, horror movies are for the most part useless and have no cultural value at all unless you're some kind of sadist. Final Destinations 1, 2 and 3 aren't so much horror as they are safety films that show what happen if you don't put safety first. People are decapitated, suffocated, immolated, defenestrated, and the only lesson we learn from this movie is... they shouldn't make a sequel... but they did anyway, 2 of them! Then they're making this new dumb Final Destination movie, with the word "The" in front of it as though they are trying to have more respect for the English language somehow by making the title a complete sentence on its own.

Don't watch Final Destination. You'll only destroy your mind and your dignity.』

(No Cheating The Reaper)
『The "Final Destination" series started off with this low-key and middle-budget suspense film. Cast with a bunch of young actors in a twist on the old slasher formula, except this time, the mad killer is old Grimm himself. It makes this movie a minor classic, in that there's never anyone chasing these kids through the woods (so to speak). You don't need to set up a story about the killer that got killed by the angry mob or tormented by nasty classmates. Death doesn't need that kind of contraption, Death just is.

Of the actors, only Sean William Scott (aka "Stifler") and Heroes' Ari Larter have moved up from this series starter. Then one of the kids - Devon Sawa - has a premonition that gets him and six classmates plus one teacher booted from the flight. Said plane then explodes upon take-off. This team of cast-offs realize they've cheated death...or did they? Seems Death's Design isn't to crazy about being disrupted, and comes back for the stragglers. This is where "Final Destination" slips back into formula, and became more inventive in the way the teens get killed off. This does sort of make FD a precursor to the Saw series, in that the kills had to be elaborately set up and executed (har har).

Even with the beach-blanket-bingo of the FD plotline, the suspense is real. Who goes next and who beats the reaper? The concept was so successful that the Big D came back for two more sets of teens (Final Destination 2 and Final Destination 3) with a 4th in the works with little variance in the formula.』

『While hardly a spiritual upgrade of the slasher film, this high-concept teen body-count thriller drops hints ofThe Sixth Senseinto the smart-aleck sensibility ofScream. Helmed byX-Filesveteran James Wong, who cowrote the screenplay with longtime creative partner Glen Morgan,Final Destinationis an often entertaining thriller marked by an unsettling sense of unease and scenes of eerie imagery. It suffers, however, from a schizophrenic tone and a frankly ludicrous premise. A high school Cassandra, Alex Browning (Devon Sawa ofIdle Hands), wakes from a preflight nightmare and panics when he's convinced the plane is doomed. His ruckus bumps seven passengers from the Paris-bound plane, which immediately explodes into a fireball on takeoff, but fate hasn't finished with these lucky few and, one by one, death claims them. Wong brings such a funereal tone to these early scenes of survivor's guilt and inevitable doom that the already far-fetched film threatens to veer into unplanned absurdity. Thankfully, the tale loosens up with a playful morgue humor: one of the victims winds up the splattered punch line to a grim joke and elaborate Rube Goldbergesque chains of cause and effect become inspired spectacles of destruction.Final Destinationis a pretty silly thriller when it takes itself seriously, and the filmmakers play fast and loose with their own rules of fate, but once they stick their tongues firmly in cheek, the film takes off with a screwy interpretation of the domino effect of doom.--Sean Axmaker

『Very, very durable. You can bend it and pose it to do pretty much whatever you want. It looks very much like the Reno in Advent Children and is a really good size. Although their plastic, his shirt and coat are flexible and bend to how you pose it, making it look super cool no matter what he does.』

(This toy radiates cool.)
『While Reno was a bad guy in the FF series, you must like him at least a little because his attitude and the way he dresses. This figure captures perfectly and personifies Reno as he was meant to be captured. The figure looks great alongside my other FF figures. But Reno stands out because out of the rest of them, he's not trying to be a hero, he's just doing his job. The figure comes with other hand attachments for posing, which I think is great. Figure is very poseable, he has joints in everything but his fingers. Great for fans of the series that can appreciate Reno for the villian he plays, but also the style and attitude he has.』

(Looks great alongside the other figures in the movie that I have.)
『I wanted a couple more figures besides Cloud on his Fennir Motorcycle. So I picked Reno and I wanted him to be sitting on Kadaj's motorcycle; which I realized would be impossible since the said motorcycle was too small.
I think Reno looks terrific and very solid and sturdy; love the face too, it is very smooth and clear.

(Artwork I never seen before)
『I own the Final Fantasy 3 or 6 in Japan imported book but this book has alot of drawings I never seen. Done in his Pencil or Ink Marker pencil style.
Only complaint is the length of the book =)』

(Excellent Purchase!!)
『This book is proof that the final fantasy series have lost it's magic. (There is nothing magical about Tetsuya Nomura's belt and zipper fetish.) I own all of Amano's art books that have been released in the US, so I was overjoyed that there were pictures in this book that I haven't seen before. Get this if your a fan of Amano's work!!』

(Nice character design book in the style of Yoshitaka Amano)
『Dawn: The Worlds of Final Fantasy contains the development sketches of the first four Final Fantasy games, I to IV. All the characters in this book are foreign to me since my first acquaintance with the game was Final Fantasy VII. All with the exception of the monsters and summons which are also used in later series. An index of titles is provided to identify the characters.

This is a character design book. Right at the start are a few foldout pages that unfold into larger illustrations. Most of the illustrations are done in pencil and watercolour. The designs are filled with detail although they are really sketches with furry pencil lines. A few black and white designs towards the end of the book.

If you're played the games before, you'll see familiar characters like Cecil Harvey, Rosa Farrell and Cid, just to name a few. There are of course lots of creatures -- high level ones -- like dragons, Leviathan, Ifrit, Odin, Bahamut, Chocobo, etc. It's interesting to see how the designs of these traditional legendary creatures have evolved since the first game, which was released in dot matrix. I'm really glad to see that Chocobo is now cuter in the later versions (original Chocobo in the pictures below).

There are no game screenshots or highly polished splash pages in this book. All are concept art by Yoshitaka Amano.

This book is recommended to character designers and game artists with reservations. Whether you like the book will depend on how much you like the style of Yoshitaka Amano.

There are more pictures of the book on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.』

『There is only one Final Fantasy. Through more than a dozen wildly diverse adventures, from the release of the first game in 1987 to the most recent expansion on the story, the international influence of the game is legendary both inside the video-game industry and throughout popular culture. It is a tale of bold heroes and heroines, breathtaking landscapes and terrifying creatures. Through Final Fantasy, names like Luneth, Refia, Rosa Farrell, Cecil Harvey, and many others have become household names to millions of players across the globe. With two feature films, a host of action figures and apparel, posters, soundtracks, and more, the vast landscape, defined by the Final Fantasy storylines have all begun with the games, and for the first six games those worlds grew from the remarkable vision of one man: Yoshitaka Amano. Now, for the first time outside Japan, Amano and Square Enix, Inc. have permitted the artwork that inspired the designs of the Final Fantasy games to be published. In Dawn you will see the development of the first four games through Amano's paintings, detailed line art, and preliminary sketches. Plus, in a special afterward, you'll learn the genesis of this history-making collaboration.』

『"Okay....now what the heck do I do"? - a common question by those of us who are not "naturals" at games such as this. The graphics are fantastic - clear and detailed and the game play (though a little challenging) is relatively smooth but you are left with questions; as in "How the heck did that happen"? "Now what"? this guide will help you over those spots where you think you are going to be stuck forever. A wee bit technical at times but packed full with good information and tips, this guide will usually dig you out of the hole you have buried yourself into when you are on the play game level that I am.』

(Just the thing for the new SeeD Member)
『As a long-time fan of the Final Fantasy series, it was with great joy that I intended to give a copy of Final Fantasy VIII to my niece. Given the intermittent access that she has to the PS2 at home, the strategy guide was a needed piece for the gift, else she completely lose her place between sessions. Imagine my horror when, a week before her birthday, the copy I had was destroyed in a terrible coffee accident...

As guides go it's thorough and detailed; the included bestiary becomes of great use in the later game, when elemental weaknesses can be the key to victory. The maps are solid and clear and the step-by-step nature of the book makes it ideal for session-based play. She was thrilled with the gift, and I was thrilled with the promptness of its arrival.』

(A great FF8 companion)
『I found this book to be an improvement on the FF7 book. The directions are easier to follow, and it includes a lot of important information. I would have liked the names of the Cards to be easier to read - dark font on a dark background is too hard to reference for anything - and the beastialityairy was too hard to decipher. But that's a small point when you compare it to the failure to continue with the total coverage in the FF9 book. This book told me what I needed to know about the little things that I missed - the weapons, the GFs, the magazines (not enough room), and locations like the Islands or the Deep Sea Research Center. It was tremendously helpful. Still is.』

『fast shipping, perfect condition, all around great, happy with my purchase. I know generic comment but I can't think of any other way to describe it』

(Good in some areas, bad in others)
『I have mixed feelings on this strategy guide.

It has the usual layout of information on the game, explains the classes and their abilities, and gives general advice on game play. It then lists the story line quests, the side quests, and the extras like the auctions and bazaar.

It has a list of every quest in the game, along with an index so you can find the page you need quickly. Each quest shows the map you play on and nicely points out where any traps are. It will also give a list of the enemies you'll face and the level ranges they can appear at.

What I was highly dissapointed in was how little it says about each quest. The vast majority do not give any advice at all on how to beat the quest, which is kind of the point of a strategy guide.

In addition, their are typos and errors that while not major, can be an annoyance. For example there is a quest where you are asked to give a response (most popular new years resolutions). The answer is random (you have to actually talk to every NPC and tally up the results) but the guide doesn't say this, it tells you to pick a certain answer. It's only right 33% of the time (there are three choices). It really gave me the impression that the author only played through it once and assumed it would always have the same answer...

1 star is bad, 2 is below average, 3 is average, 4 is above average, and 5 is perfect. I would consider this guide to be below average due to it laking strategies for most quests and the number of typos/errors in the information presented. The only advantage this guide has over using free ones avalible on the internet is the color maps showing trap locations.』

(Final Fantasy III = Great Game)
『Final Fantasy III's first release in America, and an awesome one as well. I've played some of the original games and it follows the map design very well. One of the differences is that you can run in eight directions instead of four. The other big difference is that the map is in 3D. Those are all that I found though. Menu design is the same as well, you can only save when in the world map, and quicksave is available anywhere. When in a city or a dungeon, you're not limited to four directions again, but all directions are available. The touch screen is available for movement as well as the D-pad. I would highly suggest this game.』

(FF III Not for the faint of heart)
『This game is incredibly difficult. I only recommend it for serious strategy players with lots of patience. While it can be totally frustrating it is also very addictive. An online guide is a must have to find hidden idems, LIKE SWORDS IN A CLUMP OF GRASS. Pretty good music and graphics, cool job system. Totally random attack powers, will die a lot, and have no idea where you are going or what your doing at points. story is not well developed, you are saving the world imagine that. As I said I have become addicted to the game despite its flaws. A must have for FF Fans.』

(Great Old School RPG)
『Let me start off by saying I've played a ton of games on my DS over the past 3+ years and this is by far one of the best looking games on the system. You may hate the gameplay, but you'll agree this is one of the top 5 graphically impressive games you can get on a handheld.

CONTROLS: You can use either the stylus or the buttons. Both schemes work well and I find myself using a combination of the two.

GAMEPLAY: Like every other Final Fantasy adventure (especially the older ones), you'll be spending the vast majority of your time leveling up, searching for items, and talking. If you try to fly through the game without leveling up your characters or equipping them with better stuff, you're going to be at the start screen before you know what hit you. That's a core theme in every FF game. Love it or hate it.

GRAPHICS: Like I said before, this is a very beautiful game. Colors are vibrant and look better then most N64 games did. Only complaint is most the time the top screen is blank. When it is used though it is very nice.

REPLAYABLILITY: It's going to take you a long time to beat it if you even can. If you do manage to finish, you'll probably be ready to play something else for a while.

CONCLUSION: I picked this up for under $10. If you can do the same and know what kind of game you're getting yourself into, you should be happy.』

(strait foreward storyline to start a more complexly developoed series)
『FF3 is one of three games telling how the crystals came into being and how they are threatened. IV is the first to move away from this direct storytelling, i say direct as in not "a joke" or "stupid" as some have pointed which bothers most real gamers who played in the 1980' 1990's and are not so spoiled as kids now. The main plots are strait foreward, but a good start to more grandiose stories later on, as in 4 or 6 and the sucessors to them. As with anything you -start- with a simple plot and work up to the big stuff. The "3D" graphics are spectaular for a gameboy anything but the characters are cutzy dolls and look girlish though i ignor this and play the game for it's dialogue and gameplay element. Even if animea is compelled to draw thier male leads as girlie, they could at least make them less so than these(particularly "Luneth" who I call "Lameth") In the case of these "paperdolls' I would have just kept the original way. The "Avatars' (portraits you never see) are good, just the "figurines" are lame. This game is like FF5, you use "Jobs" to distinguish one PC from another. Yet in FF5 you can (sometimes, not all) compliment one job while taking another, not here, a warrior who was once a thief, for instance, cannot steal, no matter what level a thief he was until he returns to that profession. Thier is no use in switching jobs for a unique ability otheer than doing the task at hand, as in shrinking yeilds nothing unless you are a mage, not a fighter. Fighters can't do well at 2" tall magic works the same at any height. This is good, though for some odd reason changes during Cecil's rein in FF4 where "toads" and "Pigs" fight pretty well against "giant flame lizards" or what. though this is a recap, plotwise, of FF1,and 2 it is still interesting in how you carry this out via quests, and subplotts, a good game element not in storybooks. It's not what you do that is interesting it is HOW you do it! FF1 was merely wondering around a huge ridiculously laid out map for citys to find quests in about the crystals, ff2 was a bit more complicated in these quests, now you have most characters having agendas, not just "Larry Darrel/Darrel(an old joke from us 1980's gamers). Each of the four adventurers as well as most key NPC's have a big agenda(teaching the value of live and let live), they are not just there for the player. That, more than the main plot is what makes FF3 a good game and set apart from FF1/2. RPG's don't need a particular plot just good way of telling it. the graphics i won't go into, as that is not what truely makes a game, though they are nice, it is odvious they are very good and better than the original even better than the original ff4/2 which for 1990 was spectacular!』

(Crap re-make)
『The origional was awesome, this is not the origional. They should call these remakes Final Fantasy III (Remakes) or something different so people don't waste their money thinking they are buying their classic favorites.』

(Failure.)
『First off, I want to say that I have been a fan of Final Fantasy for many years, and love the varying direction of the different games. I love the organic aspects of Final Fantasy and even the hyper-modern, slick metal themes of some of the games. I could not, however, understand or get into this game. I tried. I really, really tried. I put hours into this game, and simply stopped before reaching the end, here's why;

1. The first indication that the game is going in the wrong direction is the absolutely ridiculous opening scene. Pink, frilly bubblegum love pop concert nonsense. Yuna used to be a deep character, battling her own inner demons and choices. Now she has been reduced to short shorts, lace, duel guns and catch-phrases with NOTHING to show for it.

2. The story-line sucks. The game functions as one mass of mini side-quests that the majority of which are REQUIRED to do to receive a "perfect score". I am the type of gamer that likes completing nearly all side-quests and getting most all items to give the game a "complete" feel. But this is absolutely ridiculous. You can fail to get a perfect ending by missing the chance to talk to ONE NPC character and executing one small action. And since the game works in "chapters", once you miss it, THERE IS NO GOING BACK. This proved to be the biggest, most frustrating flaw of this sucky game. I literally slaved away, with guide in hand to follow every small sub-plot-line and action to get the perfect ending, only to find, four chapters in, that I had missed a small "0.2%" completion action. Thus, the rest of the game is ruined and rendered "incomplete". I hate this game. I really....really hate this game.

3. By starting on an airship and having access to EVERY major place, it strips the ability to feel like you're moving through a story, or being drawn into a story. Not that the game has much of a story-line. Chapter 4 is spent WITHOUT the ability to choose where you want to go, and you have to watch these tedious, vapid "commsphere" movies to get small completion points. I really can't even mention everything that I hate about this game, because it's almost everything except the combat and graphics. If you enjoyed FFX, DO NOT play this game, it will ruin your vision of Yuna, and Spira.』

(Mysogynistic Grindfest)
『FFX-2 picks up years after FFX ends with Yuna flying around the world with Rikku, some Al Bhed and new character Paine. I'm going to pause here a moment because if you don't know who or what any of those characters are I suggest you stop reading now and play Final Fantasy X (a GOOD JRPG game) because you will not understand anything that is happening without that. I give the game 2 stars because the dressphere concept was a unique and imaginative idea although it could have used a little polish. The story is interesting even though I have to credit that almost entirely to its predecessor since X-2 is so determined to steal everything it can from it. Also the pre rendered videos are very nice to look at... that's about it really.

The characters are amplified versions of femininity, if to be feminine is to wear as little clothing as possible and break into random cheers and clumsy high-fiving like a bunch of blonds who just completed a 2-piece puzzle. At one point, while attempting to level up a singing and dancing dressphere (I am not making this up) Yuna quipped "This is a little embarrassing." It's comforting to know that the developers realized they were making this entirely for the fans and nobody else. For some of the dress-spheres I really felt like they might as well have just animated Rikku as completely naked since she's 9/10ths there.

As for the game design, it's clear that they were in some kind of hurry because elements of this game are completely unoriginal when compared to the first. The environments are directly copy pasted from FFX except for a few dungeons and the final boss area. Many of the characters from X are also shamelessly copy pasted; anything from the enemy spawns to legions of blue aliens.

Leveling is a grindtastic grind fest where you pretty much fly your party to an area and run back and forth over pathways picking up random encounters on the way. Occasionally, aside from the normal cannon-fodder, you'll encounter an uber fiend that can only be defeated by a specific dresssphere which you may or may not have at this point because you are TRYING TO LEVEL UP. Changing between dresspheres takes 2 turns and if you don't have the sphere you NEED next to the sphere you have currently equipped it can take 4 turns or more to make a character useful. There is an option to get super powerful dressspheres (which aren't super powerful) that act much like the Aeons from FFX but you have to move through an entire grid of dresspheres to access it and by the time you've done so your other characters have either defeated the fiend or been killed so WHAT'S THE POINT. The game seems to think that receiving these grids is some kind of reward and by the end of the game I had 30 different grids of various bonuses and sizes of which I only ever used the smallest 3.

The mini games (of which there are MANY) are unskippable if you wish to get the most out of the game as well as repetitive, difficult and time consuming. There was one point where I had to catch Chocobos for a breeder so he could send them out looking for additional dungeons for me to explore. None of the birds came back because it turns out I was supposed to level them up before I sent them out (a fact that was never mentioned). Birds that don't come back have to be recaught which can only be accomplished by flying to an area and going through random encounters until a chocobo appears. This chocobo must then be fed greens but only AFTER all other enemies have been defeated. At this point the overbred chicken has the choice to run away which they frequently USE. After I recaught a bunch of birds and leveled them up by feeding them ANOTHER type of greens I still got no returns because it turns out I hadn't leveled them up ENOUGH. "Don't worry" the helpful online guide said "Just keep catching ones to refill the ones he's lost and keep sending them out and after several hours you should get a return." "No." I replied. "Your secret happy ending is not enough of a reward for me to spend the next several hours of my life flying about looking for giant chickens and watching hours of short sphere vignettes where dogs come and sniff the screen."

This game is for hardcore fans and people who believe grinding is a fun and pleasurable experience ONLY. If you do not fit in either of these categories, please don't waste your money.

(An embarrasment for the FF series)
『Alright, so here's how the game starts. The smart, beautiful, actually talented Yuna who was one of the more kickass characters due to her awesome powers in the LAST game, is first seen strutting around on a flashing stage, shaking her whorish booty to some Britney Spears-like song.
Now, I've played many a JRPG in my day, and am not naive when it comes to fanservice. Heck, I like a bit of fanservice! But the fact that they took the most respectable, actually talented woman who was genuinely a good character with awesome powers and turned her into Miley Cyrus pisses me off. NOT to mention she can't do anything. She has about three little fashionable outifts she can pick out, and sometimes she can shoot little hand guns, and that's about as far as her powers go. She dances too. OHH YESS! That's one of her powers. I still am not really sure what it's supposed to do, but she thrusts her hips on demand, so maybe the enemy is stunned by her lack of coordination?
Now, onto the other two main characters. Rikku is more of a slut than ever, but I don't really mind that. She was always kind of useless anyway. But she's MORE useful than Yuna in this one, so go figure. Paine, a new character, is a sexy emo child. I have a thing for her, she's the most kick ass character on here! Again, she wears tight clothes with lots of skin, and has the look of a dominatrix, so if that's what you're into...
Ah, and in the trend of making almost every woman useless on this game, you DO see Lulu. Oh, beautiful, sexy Lulu, whom we all had a major crush on in X and who was easily one of the most powerful characters. What's this? Oh, she's now pregnant and being told to not do anything by her husband, Wakka! Oh the glorious, adventurous life of a house wife. I guess FFX really was her final fantasy.

PLOT:
No spoilers here, but I will give a sum up of at least the beginning
The game starts with freaking 'Team Rocket' trying to steal Yuna's identity so that they can "Catch 'em all"... these orbs that is. The rag tag group, lead by a cliche demanding female character who is prone to bitchiness is trying to collect all these orbs that Yuna is trying to find because they are recordings that can help her find her lost lover Tidus. Why do these other guys want them? WHO KNOWS! Just another unexplained half-plot point in the game, hooray! That's about as far as I can explain without giving away anything, but this game seems to have been pieced together by someone who THOUGHT they had a lot of really good ideas, but had no way of actually making them connect.

Fighting system:
Exactly the same as FFX, which I personally like.

For those of you new to the FF world, play FFX first. DON'T PLAY THIS GAME. Just skip straight to FFXII. For those of you not new. DON'T PLAY THIS GAME. It's horrible, badly plotted, badly put together. Characters were not thought through, and there was NO character development. LAMELAMELAME. That's all I can say.』

(An abomination in sheep's clothing)
『I'll tell anyone with an ear what I think about this game... or 2 eyes to read my review. It is absolutely awful. Not only does it attempt to throw mud on everything that was great and original about FFX, but the scariest part is it almost succeeds!

For those who seem to love this game (preteens and anime geeks, I imagine), let's break it down the same way you all did, only this is strictly for those who like QUALITY game play, QUALITY characters, and above all, NO JAPANESE POP SONGS OR POP PRINCESSES!

Plot: Like being trapped in the worst anime and having to play as the characters in one excruciating scenario after another. Yuna, Rikku (most annoying character from the previous game makes a new appearance! Yay!), and emo girl Paine are now singing sensations in Spira! Nefarious villains seem to dislike your newfound pop success, and in a pointless quest for mundane spheres, cackle and plot in such over-dramatic form it would make the Wicked Witch of the West melt in embarrassment.

Characters: The aforementioned Yuna and Rikku have all their most annoying traits laid bare in this game. While you could forgive the sometimes weak dialog and annoying vocal talents of them in FFX, they don't have such sweet characters as Auron or Lulu to balance them. Emo girl Paine is hardly a good enough replacement. "Oh, I'm sulky and beautiful and the world doesn't understand me. I'm going to funnel my angst into my songs."

Gameplay: The biggest difference between FFX and its sequel is the reintroduction of classes, a much-beloved ability that allows characters to assume the roles of mages, gunslingers, swordsmen, and other useful roles. Not so in this game. You switch between them in battle, meaning you don't stick with one class for longer than a few monsters, meaning you never associate any character with any one class, meaning they become frivolous fast. And who the hell wants to be a "singer" in the middle of a battle? Oh, right, preteens and anime geeks.

Music: *gag*

Overall: The darkest hour in Final Fantasy history was when this game was released. It's a discredit to other games such as the masterful FFVIII that are given the same rating on Amazon as this one. If you buy it, I very much hope you are only buying it to melt it into unrecognizable plastic so it can be recycled. Otherwise you are encouraging this scatter-brained drivel to be reproduced in the future.』

(Great Gameplay. Lame Story.)
『Being a huge fan of Final Fantasy X from way back when it first came out, I finally decided to give it's sequel a try. I actually forgot this game even existed for a long time but found it in a bargain bin and figured what the heck. I'm not disappointed with it considering I paid under $10. The turn based combat is quicker then any other FF game I've played. And it never gets too too tough as long as you're using the right strategy and have spent the time to level up. Graphics are also impressive...looking just as good if not a little better then FFX did. The biggest turn off is the light hearted story. FFX started out with a city being blow up. FFX-2 starts out with a pop concert. :/ I'm willing to put up with this because the game play is solid enough to make up for it.

Final Verdict: If you've never played Final Fantasy X before don't jump into this one first. Get both used and play them in order.』

(Even better than the film)
『Alberto Iglesias did it again, a wonderful soundtrack!

His last collaboration with Pedro Almodovar, "Talk to her", is one of the best scores I've heard in recent years. In that movie, the scenes of the country villa, accompanying with the touching song of "Cucurrucucu Paloma" by Caetano Veloso, easily became one of the most beautiful five minuets I ever had in a theatre.

Before I went to see "Bad education", I can't help wondering, Could I have another enjoyable moment like "Cucurrucucu Paloma"? Luckily, I did have one, sort of. The Spanish rendition of "Moon River" is such a beautiful and haunting piece. But unluckily, the way the music delivered in the film is so disturbing. It started as a beautiful and innocent singing by a boy standing by the river while ended up with an innuendo of the ugly fact of sexual violations. However, if you didn't see the movie, the "moon river" will be a pure pleasant enjoyment.

Compared to the slightly weak movie, the music itself is powerful and flawless. From the beginning to the end, it doesn't have a single dull moment. In a word, buy this awesome CD!

(The Starving Crocodiles...)
『The Starving Crocodiles

Almodovar's latest movie is undoubtedly his best, and a very inventive film-noir that absorbs and electrifies you from the very beginning. Alberto Iglesias' score serves "as a cradle where the movie rests" as the auteur himself said.

La Mala Educacion (Bad Education) is one of -if not- the best soundtrack composed this year, and its style is absolutely magnificent. Following the film-noir trend, Iglesias' score is a mixture of tunes a la Herrman ("Juan y el Sr. Berenguer", "Por mi grandisima culpa", "Escena Familiar"), poignant waltzes ("Foulard en seda", "La Carta", "Valsetto"), and vocalized cues that reflect the theme of the movie, and illustrate it fittingly ("Kyrie", "La piscina", "El cine como espejo"). "Cine Olympo", an exquisite theme for the movie-within-the-movie manifests itself disguisedly many times, in variations, as Iglesias' has done in previous scores where a parallel story is narrated - The Flower of my Secret, Live Flesh, Talk to Her, and All About my Mother- however the best track in the score is the "Overture". Other superb tracks are "Carta del mas alla", "Plato", and "Adagietto"... melodies that crave lust, but "Puerta Final" -the MAIN theme- is absolutely grand; probably the best potpourri of songs written in the last decade, that will grab you by the horns from the moment it opens to the last saxophone refrain, in an orgasm of eight minutes that you will want to experience over and over again.

The soundtrack also consists of key songs that in one way or another relate to the main characters and the story: "Maniqui Parisien", "Cuore Matto", "Moon River" (a very avant-garde arrangement), and "Jardinero".

Alberto Iglesias has composed a score so dark, rich, hunting, powerful, and mysterious... that proves to be irresistible.

Experience the Bad Education!!!

『Informed by a vintage Hollywood production sheen and flashback-fueled, identity-questioning melodramatics worthy of Hitchcock, Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar's sexually-charged film was quickly hailed as a mature masterpiece. The film's classic Hollywood conceits are deep-rooted, and Iberian composer Alberto Iglesias reinforces the film's often retro mood via a brooding, classically oriented score with an ear towards history. It may briefly excerpt Rossini's "Kyrie" to haunting effect, but the touchstone here is the Bernard Herrmann of Hitchcock's prime, with an emphasis on their epochalVertigoand especially the tense, dark strings ofPsycho(which "Escena Familiar" and "Cine Olimpo" echo with haunting grace). But while Iglesias capably evokes the color and spirit of those iconic touchstones, he crucially does it without sacrificing his own identity. Evocations of Spanish culture come mostly via vintage performances of "Quiza, Quiza, Quiza," "Cuoro Matta" and others, but on the expansive "Puerta Finale" the composer skillfully interweaves his Herrmann influences with touches of mournful jazz, flamenco and "Kyrie"'s choral echoes, creating a compelling, oft chilling post-modern new whole.-- Jerry McCulley
