Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Outstanding cast in superb chiller.) 『John Saxon teams up with talented beauty Lynda Day George to create a top class horror thriller full of atmosphere, plot twists and entertainment. Director Herb Freed was clearly aiming at a drive in/horror fan audience and he succeeds in delivering a quality film rich in plot and characters. Strongly recommended as a BUY NOW DVD , ignore the ignorant bias comments.』
(Beyond stupid.) 『Beyond Evil (Herb Freed, 1980) Wow-- what a thoroughly awful movie this is. It's got some interesting ideas, but they are completely buried under an awful script, bad acting, and some of the worst special effects imaginable-- this is another of those no-budget Z-grade pics where green beams actually shoot out of the bad guy's eyes. Yes, literally. It should be some sort of rule that green beams shooting out of the bad guy's eyes means you're guaranteed an awful movie. On top of that, you can pile bad new age-y philosophical crap, some really bad stuntwork, and, oh, did I mention the bad acting and awful script already? * 』
(Beyond boring - way, way beyond boring) 『The only thing scary about Beyond Evil is the fact that one professional reviewer called it"shamelessly bloodthirsty"at the time of its release. The film was reportedly a big hit at drive-ins in 1980; this does a lot to explain why the drive-in movie business crashed and burned in the early 1980s, I think. The plot summary sounds unoriginal but promising: newlyweds move into a haunted house and have to fight to stay alive. Writer and director Herb Freed throws in a dash of witchcraft on the side, but this cinematic concoction turns out as thin and bland as tap water. Awful special effects don't help, nor does the ridiculous darkness of the print. Freed apparently believed that the secret of making a good horror/suspense movie was to keep the audience in the dark at all times - literally; if the audience can't actually see anything that is going on, perhaps this will frighten them. Let me tell you - staring at a black screen for about two-thirds of a movie is nothing but annoying. Every so often, you can almost make something out, but on these occasions the director seems to be switching between blue and green filters. There is some actual light during a few daytime scenes, but even the sunshine has a dark quality to it here.
Beyond Evil is set on some island somewhere, apparently in the South Pacific. Larry (John Saxon) and his new wife Barbara (Lynda Day George) have just arrived for an extended stay. Larry has come to oversee a big building project, working for this guy Del that Barbara apparently used to date. There is some kind of subplot about under-the-table deals among a couple of businessmen at play here, but just forget about that - the writer certainly did. Anyway, good old Del gets Larry and Barbara set up in a wonderful old house; no one has lived in the house for a century because it is said to be haunted, but of course John Saxon has fought Bruce Lee and thus finds nothing to fear in the ghost department. It goes without saying that the house is, indeed, haunted. Barbara is annoying enough as it is, but when the ghost starts trying to get into her head she becomes painfully unbearable.
I might have given this movie two stars, but the special effects made sure that didn't happen. Let's just say that Beyond Evil boasts some of the cheesiest, most pathetic special effects I've ever seen. If you like watching a black screen, jump at the chance to see awful special effects, and have a neurotic craving for weak plots involving completely unlikable characters, Beyond Evil is calling your name. If not, you'll find this movie utterly annoying and tiresome.』

(Return to your Easter Bloc childhood) 『My wife had told me of this film she had seen on TV as a little girl in Cuba. Apparently it was played quite often because many Cubans I spoke to were familiar with it and had fond memories associated with it. A friend said she had seen it here and was disappointed because it was campier than she had recalled, but she did remember the title and so I was able to find it for my wife. We watched it together, and sure, it was dated, but she enjoyed it just as much as I enjoyed seeing again Mighty Joe Young after thirty years, recognizing its flaws, yet still able to appreciate and recall the experience of seeing it as a child. The film is frequently dark and grainy and difficult to see. The villain is stock - an oyster boat captain who forces his worker's beautiful daughter to marry him and wants to capture in the amphibian man the ultimate oyster diver. The hero, a young man whose scientist father had performed the operation that allowed him to breathe under water, has that wide-eyed innocent yet self-assured look of Terence Hill in My Name is Nobody. The story is actually familiar to anyone who's ever seen Splash or The Little Mermaid - your typical fish-out-of-water story, but more a drama than a comedy with mild socialist overtones. Not a great movie, but worth seeing, I think.』
(The Amphibian Man) 『I saw this movie long time ago in the movie theater. I know I liked it then. Some thing must have changed. May be it is my age. When I saw the movie in DVD, I was totally disappointed. The DVD quality was very poor. The story was average. I regret buying this movie.

(Praise RUSCICO!) 『A 1928 science-fiction/fairy-tale, dear to generations of Russians, was brought with loving care to their cinemas in 1961 and attracted lines of adoring fans, which spanned blocks at the box offices.
More than 4 decades later, the Russian Cinema Council through Image Entertainment, presents a DVD so stunning in color, clarity and crisp stereophonic sound that you can't help but beileve this is what it was like on the big screen!
I recommend this very highly for what it is; a sensitive love story with many twists and complex characters. Don't be misled by the title, this is not a Russian Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Praise RUSCICO for a dvd (great extras included) made with the same great care that was used in the making of the film.』
『There is panic in a small seaside town as reports of a "sea devil" are terrifying the local fishermen. No one has seen him up close, but a beautiful girl named Gutiere meets and falls in love with the so-called devil, who turns out to be an amphibian man whose element is the sea. By falling in love with Gutiere, who is forced to marry the treacherous Zurita, he is subjecting his life to a deadly risk. This romantic melodrama, based on Alexander Belyaev's novel, was a box-office smash in the USSR in 1961.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (FF play arts X) 『Auron has super stiff joints which is good but there is a drawback. It's easy to pose him without worrying about him toppling over but it's extremely hard to switch out his left arms. The first time I changed his arms it took over 10 minutes and my thumb was sore the next day.
Pros: good articulation for what he is. Excellent sword sculpt cons: hard to change out his arms』
(Looks great but not as durable as the other Play Arts.) 『I bought this figure at a toy fair and the right arm was already broken but did stay in place and was movable without gluing so I decided to get him. As I was seeing how well his legs bend his left leg came off at the knee, but same deal, it will stay and still articulate for the most part. No I didn't force it. I tried to get him into an action pose but the upper part of his legs (the part joined at the hip) do not bend backward at all, just forward so about all he can do is just stand upright. I have to say I'm kind of disappointed in this one.
I'm not sure why this one doesn't seem as durable as the other Play Arts figures. I have three others and some drunken friends gave a couple of them quite a work out and they came through intact.』
(Beautifully crafted but not durable at all) 『I was delighted when my Auron finally came in the mail. I was so excited to have him on display. At first glance, it didn't disappoint. It captures the essence of one of the FF series' most memorable characters. The figure is very detailed with all of Auron's cloak's tassels, clasps, and colors. It features an extra arm for when his arm is in his cloak and when it's not, which I think is very cool for the different poses you may want him in. Lastly, BEWARE!!! This toy will BREAK very easily. I was posing his arm for display on my shelf and his arm snapped. I was crushed... All in all, it's like talking to a super model...it's got all the eye-pleasing features, but after much handling it'll become damaged goods.』
(Awesome Action Figure!) 『This is a great product for any Final Fantasy X fan! It made for a great Birthday gift for my boyfriend!』
(He has some problems) 『My friend has this guy and after time this figure's legs just collapsed and his arm that holds the sword fell apart as well. Now this figure is metal bolted together and back on his featOne more thing this figure looks much older than the character.』 『Imported from Japan! Square Enix brings you the Lead characters from the popular Playstation RPG, Final Fantasy X! These deluxe, highly detailed figures feature superb styling and decoration and are faithful to their in-game representation. Choose from: Auron (8.25" tall, 18 points of articulation), Tidus (7.5" tall, 20 points of articulation), and Yuna (7.25" tall, 20 points of articulation). Each figure ships in a collector's edition window box and comes with a trademark weapon.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Final Fantasy Aerith) 『I purchased this iteam as a collectibles iteam and thus i havent really opened the action figure out of its compartment, it looks durable and it even has its own stand. I don't regret it being my first purchance in Amazon. 5/5』
(ABCTOYS should say directly that they don't take debit cards) 『I ordered this item and another action figure Zack Fair, from this seller, and I kept getting emails that my order couldn't be completed. The weird thing is, I ordered a Cloud action figure from another seller and the order went through.』
(Very Detailed Figure since the Mario Family figures) 『This figure is very detailed, and almost realistic, I have not played around with the figure and still in it's packaging, so I don't know about the poseability, but I take it from the other reviews here, that it is indeed poseable. This figure is the most detailed figure that I have seen since the "Mario Family" figures, except the "Mario Family" figures are not poseable. This figure is also pretty good size as well, unlike most figures which are usually like 1/2" to maybe 2" in size, this one makes all them looks incredibly small.』
(Aerith) 『This figure is very posable with optional hands and her trademark staff. This is a very well done representation of the character from FF VII. The detail is excellent.』
(The Best Figure I've ever had) 『This was a very well made figure. It was beautifully made and I liked how I posed it.
I'd say if you're a Final Fantasy VII fan who collects these kind of things, they you should buy this.』 『For the first time ever, the characters based on the Playstation game likeness of Final Fantasy VII have been made into highly articulated Play Arts Action Figures! Collect all three characters: CLOUD STRIFE comes equipped with his famous BUSTER SWORD. TIFA LOCKHART is attired in a mini-skirt, with all details accurate right down to her dolphin tail hairstyle. AERITH GAINSBOROUGH is in a soft pvc dress, to allow for poseability, and comes with her trademark Staff. Sculpted under the supervision of original character designer Tetsuya Nomura, all three figures are highly poseable, with at least 20 points of articulation, and stand approximately 8 tall.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (tifa lockhart) 『THis figure was a great replica of tifa. It has many points of articulation and is detaled perfectly. I would say that the only problem is that her legs dont lift in a kicking pose and are a little to stiff.
I recomend this figure for any final fantasy fan』
(A great deal of fantasy) 『This is truly a great product if your a fan of Final Fantasy VII or of Final Fantasy in general. The figure is detailed and well articulated and surprisingly durable. The image of Tifa is captured perfectly, from her distinct "dolphin tail" hairstyle to her top-heavy proportions. All of her joints move smoothly and stay in place. Her legs tend to slide out of the sockets if raised to high as in a kicking pose, but easily snap back into place. Her hands are interghangeable to make an open hand or a fist. My only complaint is that she lacks the up and down joint on her ankles that the other play arts have, which is unusual since her feet are her weapons. Aside from that, this figure achieves perfection in Tifa's image.』 『For the first time ever, the characters based on the Playstation game likeness of Final Fantasy VII have been made into highly articulated Play Arts Action Figures! This book exactly captures the wonderful spirit that I remember so well. And, it contains a huge amount of information. And is beautifully drawn and produced. As it says: "By the otaku, for the otaku."』
(An excellent resource that features an informative and fun manga storyline and more!) 『There are plenty of books in English for those interested in traveling to Japan but for people who are interested in visiting the city of Akihabara (the electric city in Tokyo known for its otaku-driven stores from maid cafes, anime figurines, dojinshi, cosplay, video games, etc.), finding a resource in English with detailed information is not that easy.
Also, for many travel books, there is always your standard mention of the city but what about a book on Akihabara written by otaku for otaku's?
Well, "THE AKIBA: A Manga Guide to Akihabara" is not only an excellent resource, it's one of the most enjoyable books from Japan distributed in the US courtesy of Kodansha America, that I really just am impressed by it's information but also how it's written in a way to not only keep the reader interested, intrigued but definitely a book that can encourage travel to the city. It's that fun!
The book is broken into two parts. The first part is the manga and the second part is the actual guide to Akihabara.
The manga is a very enjoyable storyline about a couple in Tokyo. Hiroshi and Yoko. One day, Hiroshi said that he will be stopping in Akiba (short for Akihabara) after work. The next morning, Yoko starts to worry because not only has her boyfriend not come back from work, she finds out that he stopped working over a month ago. This is not like him and she starts to worry.
She notices that he left behind his cell phone and also received a text message from a person named Okada who said that he will meet him at Raji-kan in front of Ayanami. Who is Okada? What is Raji-kan? Why is he going to Akihabara?
This leads the trendy Yoko to the city of Akihabara. A person who really never looked at the city all that much but has heard about the culture from newspapers and magazines.
This leads Yoko to the Raji-kan (or Radio Hall) building. The interesting part of this manga is that it also shows actual pictures (in grayscale) of various things from Akihabara. The magazines that are passed out by women in cosplay to the stores in buildings that Yoko is visiting. Also, some maps as well of where things are located.
So, while searching for her boyfriend, she runs into Okada-san, a rental display case manager (for figurines) at a hobby shop but is also a hardcore otaku (and cosplayer) who loves the way of life in Akihabara.
Okada gives her information of why he was to meet Hiroshi but Yoko through running around Akihabara for the day, really doesn't understand Akihabara all that much and asks Okada for his help. The two go on a journey to find Hiroshi and Yoko begins to understand that her boyfriend is not what she thought he would be. That despite his cool look, he is an otaku that frequents Akihabara quite a bit.
Through their adventures, will Yoko accept the otaku lifestyle and the way things are in Akihabara? Will she find Hiroshi? Also, does Okada start to have feelings for Yoko (or the sense of having a woman by his side in Akihabara). You'll have to read to find out!
The manga was just so fun to read and I just found it so informative of the various shops featured, that I was very happy to see manga used as a educational book (even explaining a little of the history of how Akihabara became the way it is) to an informative reference book with maps and information on shops featured in the actual manga storyline.
Without spoiling the storyline, all I can say is that the adventures of Yoko and Okada in their search for Hiroshi was very enjoyable and I have no doubt in my mind, those who are interested in Akihabara will learn from this manga, and of course, this book in general.
The second part of the book features the "Shop&Restaurant Guide to Akiba" and this section is in full color. Not only do you get the history of the Akiba but nearly 30-pages of detailed information on maid cafes, large retail stores, restaurants, PC stores, figures, games, dojin-shi, audio equipment, cosplay, arcades and other stores.
With the book arranged by Otaba (Otaba is a social networking service community of the otaku, by the otaku and for the otaku), I would imagine that the shops selected are the best in Akiba and what is recommended. So, you get a photo, information and also the address, phone number and store or shop hours as well.
The book is about 8.5 x 10, so the book is large and not small. The manga art was pretty cool and the whole "Genshiken"-like (title of a popular anime series about otaku, some who are cool otaku and a girlfriend who is more trendy but loves her boyfriend even though he is an otaku) storyline definitely made me interested.
But it's just the overall concept and how well it was executed in order for a reader not to be just drawn in by the storyline but to see photos and maps incorporated to the manga storyline that made it even better.
And of course, the shop and restaurant guide is just the icing in the cake when it comes to this book. Very informative and it truly is a well-done reference book for the type of shops and restaurants that would attract otaku.
I've owned many Japanese travel books and even have interactive CD's and audio books that are educational but "THE AKIBA: A Manga Guide to Akihabara" is definitely one of the best out there! Granted, it focuses primarily on Akihabara but for many otaku, that's the only city that they probably want to focus on and spend their hard earned money on.
I wouldn't be surprised if people bought two copies, one to keep at home as a reference and one to keep with themselves while visiting the various shops and restaurants in Akihabara.
All in all, an excellent reference with an enjoyable manga storyline that I highly recommend!』 『The Akihabara district (Akiba) in Tokyo, once known as the spot for discount electronics stores, has become a veritable theme park of Japanese pop culture. With shops of all kinds, gaming centers, clubs, bars, and restaurants packed into an area of just 700 square meters, the Akiba can be a daunting place to navigate. Now, however, this clever new guidebook presents the wonderfully eccentric appeal of the district in an easy-to-understand and entertaining format--a fusion of manga and practical travel information that will prove invaluable to the foreign visitor. Two-thirds ofThe Akibais made up of a manga story in which 20-year-old Yoko searches for her boyfriend, who has gone missing in Akihabara. As Yoko winds her way through the Akiba looking for clues to Hiroshi's whereabouts, she meets up with his friend, Okada-san, and discovers the truth about Hiroshi: he is actually anotaku(an obsessed manga and anime fan). The remaining portion of the volume is a complete guide offering full-color photographs, detailed maps and travel information and listings of the stores and other locations mentioned in the story. Throughout the book, the reader learns about the development of Akihabara, which evolved from Tokyo's electronics center to the place to go for personal computers, video games, animation and manga--into its most recent incarnation as the hub of street music. The book also highlights the role that Akihabara has played in the internationalization of Japanese pop culture.』

The authors compare and contrast the United States with two high-achieving countries Japan and Australia that have implemented very different approaches to improving teacher quality. Drawing on both large international data sets and ethnographic and small-scale studies, the book addresses critical questions:
* How do teacher quality and teacher recruitment and hiring policies in the United States differ from those in other countries? * How do the working conditions of U.S. teachers differ from those of teachers in other countries? * How do U.S. teachers opportunities for professional learning differ from those of teachers in other countries? * How do the characteristics of the national teaching force influence student achievement? * What U.S. policies offer promise for improving teacher quality?』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (superseded) 『Go to the Kaplan version for the best translation and commentary. The Kaplan version also has alternative versions of both the Sepher and the 32 paths that was originally an adjunct of the Book of Formation.』
(Does not contain A.E. Waite introduction) 『
This is a photocopied saddle-bound reprint pamphlet, and does not contain the A.E. Waite introduction originally included in 1920s source edition used here. One side affect of this is that the page numbers referenced throughout the text do not match the printed page numbers (which seem to have been modified by the publisher to mask the deletion of the introduction.) I suspect that the loss of the introduction may be due to copyright issues.
The translator presents a number of interesting and useful interpretations of the Sepher Yetzirah text. However, the Hebrew text itself is not included - only the translation. This has some disadvantages for a document that exists in so many different versions. Stenring does cite which text he is using as his source (Mantua, I believe).
Overall, a worthwhile translation of this early Hebrew Kabbalistic text』
