(Panasonic NN-H965BF Reviewed)
『Outstanding Microwave for the Price. It has met and exceeded all expectation's. Very much impressed with the Reheat Sensor system, it really works. I have no cons as of this posting.』

(panasonic nn-h965bf)
『works very well only when it's been constantly used for several hours does it seem to take a little longer to work. i would buy another』

(Large&Powerful, The Inverter has changed microwaves.)
『I bought this 1250 watt oven to replace 1000 watt panasonic model that was 14 years old. It still worked, but had taken some abuse. This new oven was much larger. It's huge inside. It has the same rotating circlet under a heavy glass tray inside. This unit is much lighter than the smaller unit it replaced. It is unusually light for it's size.

Features new to me :

Single button reheat: Stick in your old covered plate and press it, then start. It monitors the steam released by the food, and cooks it hot and done every time. Maybe a hair hotter than my tastes, but probably exactly as hot as it should be really. I use a hot pad to remove the plate and it's fine. I was sceptical about this but it really works.

Inverter : It says it was supposed to even the heat distribution, and it actually does. I've never seen a microwave heat food like that. You know, you put a piece of chicken, corn and stuffing on a plate, the chicken is radioactive, the stuffing is done and the corn is cold. It is much better than that. Not totally perfect but a lot better than I have ever managed without adding food incrementally.

For the price (about what I paid 14 years ago for a panasonic oven) I think this is a good bargain. It comes in a big box too, so getting it shipped free saved a lot of hassle.』

(Very Good Over-all)
『A big Microwave - which was what I was lookinig for. Teh construction is good and the quality seems excellent so far. It is a bit louder than what I had thought it would be. However, the features are great - just be sure to adjust your cooking time as the power is higher than what you maybe used to.』

(WOW!!!!!)
『When they say "luxury full size" they mean luxury FULL size! This oven is HUGE and I LOVE it! Very user friendly, with all the options you can think of. This is my second Panasonic and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this brand. Just a word of warning, this piece is not for limited counter space. I have a separate microwave stand, which I'd recommend for a unit this large.』
『Luxury Full Size Microwave Oven: 2.2 cu ft, 1250 watts' cooking power, easy to use button control, one-touch sensor cooking (9 categories), one-touch sensor reheat, Inverter Turbo Defrost, multi-lingual menu-action screen, black』
『This gigantic microwave oven services the family that is constantly eating on the run but has gourmet tastes that go beyond packaged frozen dinners. It is true that the oven takes up a great deal of counter space (measurements are 23-7/8 by 14 by 19-7/16 inches) but much of that space can be attributed to the large interior capacity of 2.2 cubic feet, which can fit an entire meal. The oven operates on a powerful 1,250 watts for quicker cooking and defrosting and has a sleek black exterior that looks well in most kitchens.

Most home chefs will find new and innovative features on this microwave that blow away the offerings on their previous models. To figure out the best way to cook a particular food, cooks can access step-by-step instructions on the Menu Action screen. The multi-lingual screen displays information in English, Spanish, or French on how to perform a function. Panasonic's One-Touch Sensor Cooking feature takes the guesswork out of microwave cooking by calculating cooking and reheating times automatically based on the amount of steam released. As part of Panasonic's Inverter Technology, the oven also incorporates a linear power control for even heat distribution so frozen macaroni and cheese doesn't get hot around the perimeter and remain cold in the center during cooking and frozen chicken breasts don't cook around the edges during defrosting. Another major innovation in microwave technology is a warming and simmering feature that delivers low-temperature heat to keep food such as pies, casseroles, or gravy warm without overcooking them. For cooks who are looking for a shortcut but don't want to sacrifice gourmet cooking, this microwave is an excellent option. This luxury microwave oven is covered by Panasonic under a one-year limited warranty while the Magnetron tube has an extended warranty of up to five years.--Cristina Vaamonde

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(My two cents worth)
『I got this machine in the mail last week. My previous Mr. Coffee steam driven espresso maker died after about six months use. I decided to get a better machine since the less expensive steam driven units use aluminum for boiler construction. I took apart the Mr. Coffee and I could see that there was a little corrosion in the bottom of the boiler, meaning that I am drinking aluminum tainted coffee. No thanks.

Now, back to the Delonghi. The first few days that I used it, I hated it. I was going to send it back, but didn't get around to it right away. The coffee was anemic and the steamer didn't quite cut it. I make two mugs of cappuccino in the morning, and had to keep closing the steam knob and wait for the OK light to go back on. I learned to just keep the steam on and to open the knob more than the 1/4 turn that is recommended. It steams the milk just fine that way. I also didn't like having to dump the grounds and refill the filter basket in order to get a full carafe of strong espresso. ( I have switched to a french roast and espresso beans and use bottled flavoring. That seems to make the best coffee if I want flavored coffee). I do like the fact that I can make a mug of decaf for my wife, and then a cup of leaded for myself in short order. It just took some experimentation to get it right, since the instructions don't cover the nuances of the machine. I am really glad that I gave the Delonghi a chance. Every time I use it, I like it more. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is that the filter basket really should be a little larger. Then I could make enough espresso for two mugs of cappuccino without having to refill the basket. The steamer is also a tad too low to be able to steam milk in any decent sized container. I like to use the mug that I drink the coffee from, and it just doesn't fit. I can tilt the mug to get it under the nozzle, but can't do that once the milk is frothed without spilling some of it. The machine has to be lifted a little to get the mug out. But I can live with that. I would definitely recommend this espresso maker. It works great once you get the hang of it.』

(DeLonghi machines are great)
『I love this machine. In fact, I needed a second machine for my office so I bought a second one exactly the same. It's a great price and it makes a good coffee. After reading some of the other reviews I do have to admit that maybe the foamed milk isn't really piping hot.』

(Great Value!!!)
『This is a great machine for the price. Produces a nice espresso and the frother works great. Super easy to use and keep clean.』

(Great machine Great price)
『I have had this machine for about 2 months and am very happy with the mochas I can make at home. The espresso has that beautiful crema consistency, and the steamer for the milk produces great foam. I find the machine easy to use and clean. I am able to make mochas equivalent to the best coffee bars. This is a great machine and a great value.』

(The one to buy!!!)
『Like many of you, I pored over the Amazon customer reviews of many espresso makers before making my purchase. I was replacing a cheap Mr. Coffee device that was a lemon. I have been making espresso and cappuccino for many years using the department store-grade articles that come with a four (espresso)-cup carafe and controls consisting of an on-off switch and a steam valve and I was very satisfied with the flavor of the product. However, I was never able to reproduce the lovely crema of the espresso I enjoyed in Italy or of our better baristas in the U.S. but that was just an aesthetic compromise. Other customers' comments encouraged me to consider a pump-driven espresso maker, so I took a chance with this one: it seemed to be in the middle of the price range and most customers were pleased with the results they got, although some unhappy folks obviously bought defective devices and were dissatisfied with DeLonghi's customer service. For me, so far, so good and I am delighted with the results. Although making espresso with the DeLonghi requires a bit more attention than the less expensive basic models I'd grown used to, it is a minor compromise. This machine makes superb and beautiful espresso. Because the water is drawn from a 35-oz. reservoir, you cannot just wait until all the water you've poured into the machine runs through (like you can with the machines that hold only a cup of water in their reservoir) but you have to stand by to shut off the water flowing through the grounds when you've made enough. Therefore, you can make your espresso as strong or as weak (that defies logic!) as you prefer. Don't worry; your "wait" will amount to less than a minute.
The controls are simple, yet efficient. The silver knob on the front has four positions, left to right: preheating water for steam - off - preheating water for coffee - water flowing through the coffee. A red light indicates that the heating element is energized. A green light indicates that the water has reached its desired temperature for steaming or coffee, depending on the mode you've selected. The valve/knob on the top of the machine regulates the flow of steam through the nozzle to froth your milk.
The milk frothing nozzle is superior to any I have ever used. The frothing starts almost immediately and is a very efficient process. When the milk is frothed, click the control knob over two positions and you will probably find that the water temperature is ready to make coffee immediately. Less than a minute later, you're done.
The DeLonghi does not come with a milk frothing pitcher. It does have an attached grounds-tamper which is a convenient perk. My only complaint is that when making espresso, a few drops of water tend to drip out of the milk frothing nozzle, as if there is minor leak-by the valve. Also, before frothing milk, I drain the steam line into a separate cup to purge a teaspoon to a tablespoon of water from the line before the steam is expressed.
I am delighted with this DeLonghi Espresso Maker and recommend it highly.』

『DeLonghi is proud to present this unique and popular BAR32 Retro Pump-Driven 35 ounce Espresso Maker. Just a few of it's features include pump driven, makes coffee in mug-size or smaller cup-sizes, brews standard or with pods. With ESE (Easy Serving Expresso) espresso making has never been easier. The Sempre Crema filter produces a rich, creamy froth and the swivel jet frother makes frothy milk for cappuccino, latte and other beverages. The easy cleaning 35 ounce water tank is removable and fills easily right at the faucet. This model features an exclusive anti-drip design』

(Excellent purchase!)
『This is a great product if you are a Ravi Shankar or even a Raga fan!!』

(less than impressive)
『having seen the genius of ravi shankar unleashed upon a spell ridden crowd, (see Monterey pop, and others), the ensuing energy released causes an instant sense of unity, and a feeling of having witnessed/participated in something altogether extraordinary. I once saw him recieve a standing ovation after spending six or seven minutes tuning his instrument. he seems to have abandoned his focus on this outing. at one point he actually seems to be briefly running sitar blues riffs...eh???』

(Ravi Rocks)
『This DVD is excellent. I have played it over and over. The music on this everyone will enjoy if you like Shankar at all. I have used it when meditating as well. You will not regret purchasing this one.』

(highly recommended)
『this is a great dvd . the overall performance is outstanding . if you like east indian music i highly recommend . the sound recording is extra good also . there are 2 long ragas performed . the first around 35 minutes . the 2nd around 50 minutes . the 50 minute raga is extra cool because , as ravi explains, the raga is set up to improvise a little more than usual and introduce "new" ragas within . the tabla player has an amazing solo towards the end of the 2nd raga . ravi of course is simply put, a true master . the sarod player has a nice complementary voice to shankar . he plays allot of counter rhythms to the tabla during solos which contrasts ravi well . 2 tamboura players accompany for added drones. also a great bonus interview and comments with explanations of indian music by ravi and other musicians and people .』

(I LOVE ALI A. KHAN....BUT..............................)
『......I do not love this cd......as I am sure I should....the quality simply [...]......I do not know if it's just my copy, or what....but it seems as if this was recorded in a cardboard box using vintage Radio Shack dynamic microphones, circa 1959.

The digital remastering did little to enhance my copy...........』

(Sublime)
『This early recording is a classic in Indian raga recordings. Ustad Khan proves himself to be a master. Each piece shows the beauty of the ragas, and as all true masters of music, finds new truths within each unfolding melody.

One thing I should point out. Raga Chandranandan, as I understand it, was the creation of Ustad Khan's father, the great Ustad Baba Allahudin Khan. He synthesized four different ragas to create this one.

(Beautiful sounds)
『Wanting an excellent CD of traditional Indian music, but being a novice, I chose this based on the hope that the title didn't lie. It didn't, this is a wonderful and expressive CD, each song starts slow and simple then builds to an exuberant ending. It is relaxing and playful to the ear and mind.』

(Music for your soul)
『I simply cannot recommend this album enough.

The Sarod is an eight-stringed short-necked, unfretted, waisted lute carved from a block of teak and covered with a skin belly. The music is an ancient form of north Indian classical music. Khan is the 81 year old master musican who, performing on the Sarod and accompianied by tamboura and tabla, creates soundscapes of beauty.

Listening to this CD will calm you and educate you. It will transplant your soul to places located in your distant memory and to places found only in your imagination.

Ali Akbar Khan's many awards and achievments throughout his long career are not unfounded. His performance on this CD and others could be described as a mixture of Ornette Coleman, Shostokovich, Bach and Beethoven.

The CD contains a lot of groove and melodic beauty. It will also bring into your life a sense of peace that will withstand the overwhelming stress from the geopolitical wrangling of today. What more could you want?』

(The genius of Ali Akbar Khan)
『To those not very familiar with Hindustani Classical music, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan is the Son of the legendary Ustad Allauddin Khan (also the Guru of Ravi Shankar). Raga Chandranandan is his own creation and among his performances of this Raga, this is the most brilliant. This is one of those recordings that I can not tire of repeated listening. (Superstars 2 as Good as 1)
『I enjoyed this disc as much a volume 1...I know some disagree, but I liked it very much. A little different from Volume 1, but very nice in its own way.』

(Pretty good)
『I am belly dancer and have been for almost two years. I recently bought this cd and it is really good. I feel like there is a lot of variety, though I still have to say, I like number one a little better. It's still good. I have to point out, at the Utah Belly Dance Festival, I heard a number of these songs a gazillion songs. Remember, if you are doing a performance, and want something really unique, these songs are commonly used. Some more so than others, I admit, but still.』

(Very Different But Just As Great As Volume 1)
『I listened to this CD just a few times before it grew on me, and it did so quickly. My first impression was that it is completely different than the compilation of Volume 1, so if you own the first CD, keep an open mind and let go of your expectations. Where Volume 1 contains mostly bellydance and middle eastern classics, Volume 2 is made up of more modern, pop and techno tracks, such as "Entrance Of The Stars," a song that was composed specifically for the Superstars and Desert Roses. This one has several shorter tracks suitable for solo performances and I like that! I found the perfect song for my sword dance in this compilation! I think that it's important for a dancer to be willing to try a variety of music and dance styles, and this is a great addition to your library.

To learn more about the history of bellydance and the Bellydance Superstars' role in educating the public about this art form, check out the "American Bellydancer" DVD.

(Another good compilation!)
『I enjoyed this one very much as well. Not as much as the first one but hey.....greatness of music is in the ears of the listener. Again the variety of music is great and there is plenty in both Superstars albums to bring out the choreographer in us Raks Sharquiteurs.

(This is the most awesome bellydance compilation!!!)
『Wow, what a great selection of songs! Each song is a pleasure to listen and to dance to. I have a wonderful time dancing to this CD for my dance shows and my students love it as well.
This is the best bellydance compilation I've heard in years, and it's also better than the first Bellydance Superstars. Highly recommended to avid listeners of amazing Middle-Eastern beats and dancers who can't get enough of shake shake shake!』

『For decades, war in Vietnam was the central drama on the stage of Southeast Asia. The Vietnamese had fought the Japanese and French Colonial troops to a standstill. The North Vietnamese and Viet Cong were prepared to fight a war for total liberation. The United States had become involved to save the Government of South Vietnam from destruction by what was seen as part of a monolithic communist plot to take over the world. Yet American actions and policies failed to win the hearts and minds of the Vietnamese people. This was an intensely publicized war, the first television war that came roaring into the living rooms of America every night. Eventually, the negative side of the war spilled over into America, touching off a wave of protest and provoking a crisis of social upheaval that rocked the foundation of American society. Few Americans who lived through these times will ever forget this period of drastic change, especially the veterans of this long and brutal conflict whose stories are featured in this series.Their stories will give you an inside view of everyday life and death on the battlefields of war torn Vietnam. This is a story of personal heroism and sacrifice, set against the backdrop of one of the most controversial wars of our time. This is Vietnam Combat.』

『Perhaps no other region of the world has played so many different roles in culture, religion, and politics, for so long a period of time, as the peninsula of Asian Turkey, known to the Greeks as Anatolia and to the Romans as Asia Minor. Though today we call it Turkey, that name dates back only to the Middle Ages. From 7000 B.C., when Neolithic hunters began the transition to a pastoral and agricultural lifestyle, to the founding of modern Turkey in the 20th century, this varied geographical area about the size of Texas has been a crossroads of history. Homer composed the Iliad and Odyssey on the shores of Asia Minor. All seven of the great ecumenical councils that defined Christian theology in the centuries after the conversion of Constantine took place within the boundaries of modern Turkey. To study the region is to study a land that has nurtured successive civilizations that have defined the Western and Muslim traditions that embrace so many of the modern worlds inhabitants.Professor Kenneth W. Harl bases these lectures on both a lifetime of academic study and decades of his own firsthand fieldwork at sites throughout Turkey. He is Professor of History at Tulane University, where he has taught since 1978, after receiving his Ph.D. in History from Yale University. (If I Were Going to Be a Movie, Which One Would I Choose?)
『Creative, yet not bogged down with heavy storylines, outragous plot twists and heavy-handed acting. This is a pleasure to view from minute one till the credits role.

Practically everyone will be able to relate to at least one (1) of the characters. The entire plot is a build-up for the ending, which in my case, has torn away a piece of my heart. I never expected the wind-down and ending. I must have looked like a Deer caught in the headlights as the last minutes of the story unraveled.

Beautiful... Heartwarming... Funny... Realistic. My choice of the movie to be!』

(ABSOLUTELY STUNNING FARRELL)
『I put together a list of must see movies for Gay Pride Day and guess what, this one headed the list. Colin Farrell gives an absolutely amazing performance as Bobby, the young man who must choose between Jonathan, his life-long love, and Claire, Jonathan's soulmate, with whom Bobby eventually has a child. Sissy Spacek shines in the role of Alice, Jonathan's mother. But the real star, of course, is Michael Cunningham who, here and in The Hours dares to show the complexity of all human relationships, which cross gender definitions and barriers. My movie list was comprised of films with positive characterizations of gayness--in other words, no Brokebacks. A Home at the End of the World fits perfectly.』

(a poignant search for home--and the true meaning of family)
『A Home At The End Of The World caught my attention and never let it go until the end. This film packs an emotional wallop and there's some mighty fine acting by a talented cast. The script doesn't lack much, either; and the casting was very well done. The cinematography shines especially bright in the upstate New York scenes and the choreography is very impressive. I especially like the character development that takes place over time.

When the action starts we meet nine year old Bobby Morrow (Andrew Chalmers) who clearly has a warm relationship with his older brother Carlton (Ryan Donowho). Unfortunately, Carlton is killed suddenly in a very tragic accident and thus begins the long chain of events that leave Bobby Morrow without parents or any siblings in this world. By the time Bobby is a teenager, he is essentially adopted by the family of his friend Jonathan Glover (Harris Allan). Jonathan has his eyes on Bobby; and Bobby seems to enjoy spending romantic time with Jonathan as well. Look also for a brilliant performance by Sissy Spacek as Jonathan's mother Alice.

After a few years, Jonathan heads to New York by himself. When Bobby (now played by Collin Farrell) turns twenty-four, he also moves to New York after Jonathan's father tells Bobby to spread his wings and fly. Twenty-four year old Jonathan (now played by Dallas Roberts) welcomes Bobby--and so does Jonathan's roommate and platonic girlfriend Clare (Robin Wright Penn).

It isn't long, however, before we see complications. Although Jonathan truly still loves Bobby deep down; Bobby falls in love with Clare and Clare feels the same way about Bobby. At this point the movie delves into the dynamics of a three way relationship with love at varying levels as a year or two more pass by. In addition, Jonathan isn't exactly "saving himself" for Bobby; he often spends time alone with other men he's just met.

When Clare is pregnant with Bobby's child, the threesome decides to buy a house in Woodstock, New York (they figure it won't be too much unlike Greenwich Village where they have been living) and soon Rebecca is born. All through this time we see more developments in Jonathan's family; and that adds to the richness of the picture.

Of course, from here the plot can go just about anywhere. What happens after they move to Woodstock? How will Clare, who loves the city a great deal, adjust to Woodstock in the countryside? What about Bobby and Jonathan--how does their relationship play out? And what happens after they open a small restaurant--will it be a success? Watch and find out!

The DVD has a bonus about the film featuring comments by director Michael Mayer and the principle actors in the cast. There's the theatrical trailer as well.

A Home At The End Of The World dares to explore subject matter that isn't exactly mainstream; but I admire their bravery and they pull this off in very good taste. This is also a sophisticated, honest look at the fluidity of human romantic preferences that can take place in life. It also showcases the story of three people searching for their own homes and families outside of the family into which they were born. I highly recommend this motion picture.』

(Truely good)
『The movie was really good with good performance by the Actors. Who would have thought Colin Farrell was ever involved in something as thought provoking as this subject matter. Well done.』

(I really wanted to like this movie)
『I really wanted to like this movie. I had read the book, and the book was amazing!! The movie changed a lot of the main story line, and it became a mish-mash of ridiculous scenes. If you did not read the book, you might enjoy this, for those of us who did, stay away from this film.

『Colin Farrell takes a break from action flicks (S.W.A.T.,Alexander) to makeA Home at the End of the World, an intimate film based on a novel by Michael Cunningham (author ofThe Hours). As a boy, Bobby (played as an adult by Farrell) loses both parents and his beloved older brother, ending up more-or-less adopted by the family of his best friend, Jonathan (played as an adult by Dallas Roberts). Jonathan's feelings for Bobby go beyond friendship; Bobby is open to the possibilities. Bobby follows Jonathan to New York and falls into a relationship with Clare (Robin Wright Penn,The Princess Bride). The three form an alternative family, move out to the country, and discover that even alternative families have their dysfunctions. Bobby is so innocent and open he sometimes seems like a pansexual Forrest Gump, but Roberts, Wright Penn, and Sissy Spacek give rich performances.--Bret Fetzer
『From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Hours comes a story that chronicles a dozen years in the lives of two best friends. The film charts a journey of trials triumphs loves and losses. 『This is definetely the greatest Broadway concert ever done. One after another great numbers and great stars just keep coming at you. Costumes, props, everything is here.

Long great excerpts from major shows like Les Mis, Phantom, Miss Saigon, Cats, etc, plus Sondheim songs, and a ton of others.

Everyone is in great voice and seems to be having a great time. This is the best compilation of broadway talent ever in one concert, and i own quite a few compilation concerts.

If you like Broadway, do not miss a chance to buy this concert!』

(A Surprisingly Good Lost Treasure)
『Robert Ryan&Robert Stack (yep, the guy from "Unsolved Mysteries") vie for control of Tokyo's underworld. In reality, it was the Yakuza that ruled the black-markets and pachinko parlors, and the more realistic tales of this plague are told by director Kinji Fukasaku with his "Yakuza Papers" series, or "Street Mobster", "Graveyard of Honor", etc.

But this movie is worth the price for a number of reasons: Principally, for what it gets RIGHT, the scenery (exteriors were shot on location in post-war Tokyo!), the behavior codes. It amazingly doesn't overstep its bounds in presenting something that pretty much couldn't have happened. Sure, you can smile at Robert Ryan's swank Tokyo bachelor pad, where men wear shoes inside (aurgh!) among the awesome mid-century design furnishings, and ignore the geographically-impossible views of Mount Fuji. But marvel at RARE views of post-war Tokyo and rarer glimpses of the Japanese countryside.. at a time when Japan was just starting to pick itself up following being nearly annihilated. Not to mention the exciting climax and money-shot atop what was then Tokyo's greatest modern landmark.

And above all, enjoy a good script, crisp direction and fine performances from Robert Ryan, Robert Stack, Cameron Mitchell and Shirley Yamaguchi. It's as brutal as mainstream American Movies could be at the time.

Dang! Good script, good acting, good visuals: That's a good movie!

Another note about the script: When the Americans mispronounce certain Japanese words and misunderstand culture, I don't think it's a flaw of the script, it's the writers' attempt to reflect how the crude men didn't quite get the local lingo.

Do yourself a greater favor and see "House of Bamboo" in your own living room double-feature with Kurosawa's "Stray Dog", another Tokyo crime story from the same general time-frame. Compare and contrast the depictions of the Tokyoites, the approach to police work, etc. See semi-related stories from the POV of Americans who've maybe been to Ginza, and from the people in the places that Americans just didn't go to.』

(SAMUEL FULLER, OPUS 8)
『***1/2 1955. Directed by Samuel Fuller. Tokyo. A military police officer investigates the murder of an American soldier killed by Robert Ryan's gang. Shot on location in Japan, HOUSE OF BAMBOO is a fascinating study of a civilization's clash. Then, observe how, in the first part of the film, Robert Stack is described, although we know he's a cop, as an antipathetic hero, Shirley Yamaguchi and Robert Ryan being the sole interesting characters of the film. The ambiguous attraction felt by Robert Ryan towards Robert Stack is also suggested with subtlety by Samuel Fuller who signed here a very personal film. Recommended.』

(What a Turkey)
『I love Robert Ryan but even he could not save this boring script.
What could have been an amazing piece of pop action history ends up a boring love story. BUMMER』

(The location shooting is the real star...)
『Robert Ryan easily outshines Robert Stack in this rigid, brittle noir flick... The script is a bit clunky, but what's most fascinating here is the on-location shooting in an urban Japan that has long since vanished in a cloud of modernity. Like Akira Kurosawa's postwar crime films, this shows crowded, poor neighborhoods filled with tumbledown shacks and wooden sidewalks -- an urban landscape long since covered over with concrete and glass, and all the shiny trappings of the ultramodern, wealthy new Japan. Where Kurosawa shot his crime thrillers such as "Stray Dog" in tight, claustrophobic black-and-white, Fuller chose a more expansive Technicolor, with wide, open shots of the neighborhoods and temples. It has a nice postcard-like effect, and gives a fascinating glimpse at the last vestiges of old-world Japan. The movie's pretty dumb, though: for one, thing, how would all these white guys have cornered the mob action in Tokyo? I'm pretty sure there would have been a little competition from the hometown team. (Joe Sixpack, Slipcue)』

(.......... "MUSHIE---MUSHIE" ..........)
『I agree with Zack's take on this movie...I had just returned from two [2] sojourns in Kyoto, Japan [ 1954]...and I found this movie/DVD lacking of any Japanese mystique to a great degree...standard crime movie with the predictable ending, all taking place in Tokyo, Japan [1955]....yes, where were the Yakusa??...Robert Stack and Robert Ryan headline with the charming Shirley Yamaguchi, but that's all you get for your time and effort; incidentally, Director: Sam Fuller lured Shirley Yamaguchi away from her wealthy/socialite lifestyle in NYC...to return to her native Japan for this 20th Century Fox cinemascope picture, she remained onboard for a few more flicks and then, just disappeared from the silver screen forever.』
『Samuel Fuller came up with one of his gutsiest "headline shots" forHouse of Bamboo: Mount Fuji, in CinemaScope, framed between the boots of a U.S. soldier lying murdered on a snowy Japanese embankment. Happily, the movie that follows is no letdown. This brutal gangster film was the first American production to shoot in Japan, and Fuller exploits his locations to the max, up to and including a climactic gun battle around a Tokyo rooftop facsimile of the turning Earth. Officially the screenplay is credited to Harry Kleiner, with Fuller cited for "additional dialogue"; in actuality, the 20th Century-Fox movie transplants the basic premise of the Kleiner-scriptedStreet with No Name(1948) from an American Midwest town to Tokyo, but otherwise the picture is unmistakably Fuller's own. A gang of American expatriates is robbing U.S. military ammunition and supply trains, and using military tactics to do it. They're a ruthless bunch, killing not only any troops and police that get in the way but also their own wounded. Robert Stack has a satisfyingly dark-edged role as an American drifter who's drafted into the gang, and Robert Ryan is mesmerizing as the psychotic crimelord. The action is tough--there's a genuinely shocking killing in a bathhouse--and Fuller's canny deployment of the newly widened screen is just as forceful. It's great to have this early-CinemaScope classic in widescreen DVD.--Richard T. Jameson

『I really enjoyed the Melon flavored Ramune.

It has a fun look to it and is great for those who love sweet drinks and don't like or drink caffeine.

I being one who avoids caffeine when possible was excited to find a drink I could add to me fridge to give me a change from the few caffeine free drinks I can tolerate.

I would recommend these to anyone. If nothing else you have to try at least one in your life time.』

『Ramune has to be one of the coolest and most unique soft drinks that I have ever seen. My kids had been dying to try this stuff ever since they had come across it on J-Box, the popular Japanese import webshop. Ramune is incredibly popular in it's native Japan, and now it looks like the fun is beginning to spread here in the States.

To open a bottle of Ramune, you have to remove the top, pop out this little plastic plunger from it's casing, and then use the plunger to pop out a marble that seals the neck of the bottle. The neck of the bottle has two indentions that will hold the marble when you tip the bottle back to drink from it, keeping the neck of the bottle clear. Hold the bottle the wrong way, and the marble will clog things up. You can avoid carbonated overflow when opening by pressing gently on the plunger until it depresses the marble; knock it down with force and you're sure to get a fountain of spray.

The melon flavor reviewed here has a very unique taste. Think honeydew more than watermelon, sweet and light with that distinctive Ramune lemon-lime backbone flavor holding everything together. Truly a treat.

This is a way fun product that kids (and most adults) will have a blast with. It's a smaller portion (8 ounces) than what we're used to here in the US, but that actually works out for us as we're trying to limit the amount of soda that our kids consume. Ramune works great as an occasional soda treat and the fun factor alone keeps us coming back for more. Ramune is easy to find at just about any Asian market, but for those who don't have easy access to one, ordering here on Amazon would be recommended.

Also, for the safety conscious, I can attest that these drinks are very safe. We've never had a problem with the marble, and I can't find any reports on the internet that would indicate any safety concerns with this drink. It's not a choking hazard, in other words. Ramune means 'carbonated' in Japanese, and I can highly recommend this wonderful and very different drink.』

(Awesome,)
『These are great, the only problem is they don't offer them in cases, because you're going to want more.』

(Crap, crap , crap)
『You get what you pay for. Look elsewhere for a good DVD player, if anyone still makes one. I hated it as soon as I plugged it in. Lots of lag on remote commands to which it only responds if you hit it just right, and then after a while my DVD collection which I am so meticulous about started to deteriorate. I can only credit the scratches to the player. It just generally sucks. Works sure, but not like it should. I think I will smash mine tomorrow and try something else.』

(Pathetic Piece of Junk)
『I will never buy another Phillips product.

To be fair, this thing was cheap, plays difficult disks well and has a decent picture.

Nothing else about it was satisfactory, though. The remote never worked well and has failed completely after less than a year. The player boots up incredibly slowly and doesn't remember where you were. The menu system is poor at best and I have spent more time waiting on this thing than I have any other machine ever.

I have never disliked a piece of electronics more than I've disliked this player.』

(Philips DVP39609)
『This unit plays many formats and can be made region free (region 0) -- just what I wanted. It's slim and seems to work perfectly.』

(so-so player)
『So-so player. Upconverts signal but thats about it. Very few features and a remote with just a few buttons. It's very inexpensive and plays well but if you want more features you will have to pay more for a higher end player. You get what you pay for, if you're just looking for a player to upconvert this could be a good choice.』

(Reads DVD OK, slow interface/reaction)
『This DVD player is slow. Press the open button and the try takes 3-4 seconds to open, so you press it again harder within 2 seconds, so it register the second event and will eventually open and reclose the tray. Repeat a few times at first and it is anoying. It takes a while to find the format of the DVD. When it plays at 1080i, the screen looks good through HDMI but I'm not expert. Works with many formats I threw at it. My only complain is the interface and sluggishness.』
『Be impressed with this Philips DVD player with HDMI digital video and audio connection. Step into another home entertainment arena as you immerse yourself with High Definition video (720p/1080i).』

(Understanding our world)
『The Great Game
Peter Hopkirk
Excellent! A "must read" for all history lovers, war and intelligence tactics students, diplomacy use, etc. The Middle East on the XIX century with all the turmoil between England and Russia. The empires of the time and the struggle for keeping influence, control, and protecting their colonies. Hopkirk, with an amenity not frequently encountered on historic books, keep the reader hooked with the book. Keep a map of Middle East on your side while reading. Strongly recommended!

(Good book but tedious to read)
『This is a great book if you want to know about the history of the Central Asian region. The political struggles are still relevant today. However, it is really tedious to read because it is full of facts and names. It's not really a page turner. There's also nothing about modern day Central Asia. If you want to read a great fiction/thriller that accurately captures Uzbekistan's culture and people and presents the region through an entertaining story, read The Opportunists by Yohann de Silva. Here's a link to the book on Amazon: The Opportunists: A Novel』

(A definitive work)
『A literary style of writing makes this a fast-paced yet historically packed summary of a long history for the control of south central Asia. The context of this history on current events is absolutely essential and Mr. Hopkirk's knowledge of central Asia combined with his ability as a communicator make this an invaluable resource for that context. The color and sweeping drama make this an enjoyable read with vivid details that bring the history alive. This work is a key component in any central Asian historical study.』

(A Worthwhile Reading Endeavor)
『Without a doubt the most fascinating history-type book I have ever read. The complete story of a part of this world that very few people know anything at all about. It was a remarkable feat to assemble such a wealth of information into one book. And an even greater challenge to write an account that reads more like a novel rather than a boring history book. Plus, it is also incredibly timely. The Game he describes over 500+ pages continues as the US was only recently booted from Kyrgystan and Uzbekistan and our problems in Afghanistan continue. Hope to see some of this myself as I am now planning a trip to Uzbekistan.』

(Excellent source of screenwriting material)
『This book is a rich source of material and story ideas for screen writers.
Imagine Central Asia in the early 1800s. Add an exotic, primitive place such as Bokhara or Samarkand Start with an opening scene where two, shackled British officers are led out of a dungeon into a square populated with a mixture of humanity Mongols, Russian slaves and Moslem tribesmen all standing, pushing and shoving against each other for a view of whats about to happen.
You dont have to wait for long You, the reader can guess the outcome when an executioner steps into the square and unsheathes a large, sharp sword.
Now cut to the same two officers readying their horses at a remote fort somewhere near Northern India They talk about their lives, their families and their upcoming adventure, unaware of where the road is leading them One of them starts to talk as they walk out of the gate of the fort
If I had knows I would lose my head over this trip, I would have stayed home Its too late now Im committed, we are committed, England is committed the horses walk into an endless desert void
You can fill in the rest from here Yup The book is that interesting and never stops

『In a phrase coined by Captain Arthur Connolly of the East India Company before he was beheaded in Bokhara for spying in 1842, a "Great Game" was played between Tsarist Russia and Victorian England for supremacy in Central Asia. At stake was the security of India, key to the wealth of the British Empire. When play began early in the 19th century, the frontiers of the two imperial powers lay two thousand miles apart, across vast deserts and almost impassable mountain ranges; by the end, only 20 miles separated the two rivals.

Peter Hopkirk, a former reporter forThe Timesof London with wide experience of the region, tells an extraordinary story of ambition, intrigue, and military adventure. His sensational narrative moves at breakneck pace, yet even as he paints his colorful characters--tribal chieftains, generals, spies, Queen Victoria herself--he skillfully provides a clear overview of the geographical and diplomatic framework. The Great Game was Russia's version of America's "Manifest Destiny" to dominate a continent, and Hopkirk is careful to explain Russian viewpoints as fully as those of the British. The story ends with the fall of Tsarist Russia in 1917, but the demise of the Soviet Empire (hastened by a decade of bloody fighting in Afghanistan) gives it new relevance, as world peace and stability are again threatened by tensions in this volatile region of great mineral wealth and strategic significance.--John Stevenson
『The Great Game was the epic stand-off between the two superpowers of the nineteenth century--Victorian Britain and Czarist Russia--for the riches of India and the East. Based on meticulous scholarship and on-the-spot research, Peter Hopkirk's immensely readable account covers the history at the core of today's geopolitics. Photos and maps.』

(Great Story about a huge naval battle.)
『This was one of the best books on destroyermen and the war they fought from the decks of small ships against overwhelming odds. Being a retired chief gunnersmate, I can relate to the different stories as well as the tactics used by both sides. I've studied modern naval tactics as well as being versed in modern gunnery doctrine. The example of GM2 Carr who stayed at his battle station despite fatal wounds as his ship was sinking is a testament to the tenacity of the American sailor during this battle and hopefully one that others will seek to emulate in modern times. It is a story that will stand out the test of time.』

(I cried)
『There's nothing i can say that hasn't already been said about this book. All I can say it is a must read ! I cried when I thought of all those brave Sailors lost in the battle. James Hornfischer brings the battle to you.』

(Puts you in the Battle)
『This is hands down the best historical war book I've ever read. It starts a little slow in setting the stage with the people and ships but hold on to your seat when the battle starts. This book puts you sweating into the battle that you know can't be won but is. I never really heard about this battle before reading this book and can't believe that it was never put to film.』

("Our schoolchildren should know about [this] incident, and our enemies should ponder it.")
『In late October 1944 the US Navy guarded the seas off the Philippines protecting the return of General MacArthur. With the 7th Fleet (Kinkaid) guarding from the south, and the 3rd Fleet (Halsey) guarding the north, those in the middle didn't expect to see much action. But Japan knew it's days were numbered and invented a daring plan to protect their position and resources in the Philippines by attacking from both sides. Kinkaid's troops soundly defeated Nishimura and Shima in the Surigao Strait, but Halsey abandoned the San Bernardino Strait in the north after a minor skirmish and took the bait offered by Ozawa and was drawn away to the north. This let Kurita through and left the small destroyers and carrier escorts of Taffy 3 to bear the full brunt of the largest ships to ever sail the seas.

Outnumbered and outgunned, the men put up a brave front against the monstrous Japanese ships, trying to protect the important small carriers. Between daring torpedo runs by the destroyer escorts (known to the sailors as "tin cans") and relentless attacks by those planes which were able to get airborne (almost all without proper armaments and some without any at all) the Americans put up such a fierce fight that Kurita was unsure of the true strength he faced, even thinking it was the absent Halsey. In the end he suffered serious losses and retreated, but not before sinking 3 destroyers and the only American carrier sunk by enemy surface fire. (The battle also saw the first sinking of an American ship by a feared new Japanese weapon - the kamikaze suicide pilot - when the St. Lo of Taffy 2 was sunk.)

This is an excellent and highly inspirational account of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, or more specifically the Battle off Samar, fought by the men of Taffy 3 Task Unit. While Halsey skillfully and unjustly took credit for the victory, the bravery of the men who fought it generally went unsung. They endured relentless pounding by far bigger ships with bigger bombs and many spent 48 hours floating in the wide ocean waiting for a rescue that came shamefully late. But this is a story of the kind of bravery that won the war in the Pacific - even retreating Japanese soldiers saluted the men in the water as they steamed by. It's the kind of story that makes you appreciate the incredible valor and sacrifices men made during the war.

I've seen a number of comparisons to Flags of Our Fathers, and while this book is every bit as good, I found it a bit more challenging to read due mainly to my unfamiliarity with ships and planes. But once I stopped worrying about trying to understand and remember all the technical details it became a lot more enjoyable. I *highly* recommend this book.』

(The last stand of the Tin Can Saliors)
『I enjoyed the book but was disappointed that it was a large print addition. This was NOT noted when I ordered it and I do not like it. You must notify people of this in the future.』
『“This will be a fight against overwhelming odds from which survival cannot be expected. We will do what damage we can.”

With these words, Lieutenant Commander Robert W. Copeland addressed the crew of the destroyer escort USSSamuel B. Robertson the morning of October 25, 1944, off the Philippine Island of Samar. On the horizon loomed the mightiest ships of the Japanese navy, a massive fleet that represented the last hope of a staggering empire. All that stood between it and Douglas MacArthur’s vulnerable invasion force were theRobertsand the other small ships of a tiny American flotilla poised to charge into history.

In the tradition of the #1New York TimesbestsellerFlags of Our Fathers, James D. Hornfischer paints an unprecedented portrait of the Battle of Samar, a naval engagement unlike any other in U.S. history—and captures with unforgettable intensity the men, the strategies, and the sacrifices that turned certain defeat into a legendary victory.

(Genghis Khan: A true innovator)
『This is probably one of the best books out there on Genghis Khan and his descendants. Instead of portraying him as a bloodthirsty conqueror, it goes into the history of his policies and choices for governing his people, as well as the innovations he brought to warfare and government. The author also focuses on the stereotypes and debunks them to reveal a fascinating person with a unique vision for the word that is much more egalitarian than previously was known. An excellent read not merely for the history, but also for understanding how innovation can be applied.』

(Excellent history, Good story, Provides context)
『After a recent trip to Mongolia, I was eager to understand more completely the place of Genghis Kahn in the history of the world's civilizations. This book was recommended to me by a teacher of history. The book does an excellent job in giving context to the Mongol invasions of China and eastern Europe and the impact of the "Mongol Way" on those societies. To be sure, the book is written from a certain perspective as all books are and probably ascribes too much positive influence to Genghis Khan and down-plays many of the negative influences. However, this perspective stands as an excellent counterpoint to other, more Eurocentric, revisionist histories. As with many complex ideas, it is best to consider all perspectives and find the truth somewhere between then. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in not only the history of Mongolia but the evolution of human societies. BGS』

(Genghis the Good)
『Who would have thought that Genghis Khan, the scourge of the steppes was the victim of bad press. That's Weatherford's contention. He does tend to gloss over the mega deaths and present the Mongols as the great bureocrats. Since I came into this book in great ignorance, I am now greatly improved in my knowledge. It was quite readable. Weatherford tells a good story, and I'm glad I read it. I am not tempted to read anymore in this vein for awhile.』

(The best book on the Mongols ever!)
『This is the best book I ever read on Genghis Khan and the Mongols! And I read most of them!』

(Engrossing book of a remarkable life and empire)
『Based on the accounts of a few ancient historians and a key text discovered in China in the 19th century, Jack Weatherford provides a picture of one of the most influential figures in the history of mankind. The Author describes in the forward to the book his travels in Mongolia in the region where Genghis khan was born, spent his childhood and thought to be buried. The Soviets, during their rule of Mongolia, strongly and violently discouraged any study of Genghis Khan for fear of stoking Mongolian national sentiment. This area was sealed off to all visitors by the Soviets. It only became possible to visit Ikh Khorig, as the area is called, after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Jack Weatherford's knowledge of the region and his interaction with local historians and people provides valuable insight that he's able to share with his readers.
Only the first third of the book is dedicated to the life of Genghis khan. The last two-thirds of the book deal with the political maneuvers and conquests made by his descendants, and the impact of the Mongols that can be felt to this day. As I read the book I kept turning every page wondering what transpired next. The book was hard to put down.
The Mongol's great legacy derived more from what they accomplished after they assumed power then of the conquests they made. The author admires their religious tolerance and secularism. He credits them for spreading technologies throughout different parts of their vast empire, and for the proliferation of trade between Europe, Middle East and Asia.
Many tales have survived the centuries about the ruthlessness and savagery of the Mongols. Many of these tales interpreted literally border on the ridiculous and the author is correct to dismiss them as racist or ignorant. Yet I feel that the people, through these tales, were expressing the great horror experienced during the Mongol conquests. All military conquests at the time could be considered savage by today's standards and it would be unfair to single the Mongols out just because of their military success. I do think that since the author is not reluctant to heap praise on the conquerors from the steppes he should probably balance it out by describing the great loss of human life and misery that they caused. I have previously read how the Mongols, after killing many of the men in a conquered city, fathered many children. The DNA of several populations has been analyzed and the results support the tales of their supposedly healthy sexual appetite. The author does not address this matter.
Overall this is a great book that is very well written. I highly recommend it.

『The Mongol army led by Genghis Khan subjugated more lands and people in twenty-?ve years than the Romans did in four hundred. In nearly every country the Mongols conquered, they brought an unprecedented rise in cultural communication, expanded trade, and a blossoming of civilization. Vastly more progressive than his European or Asian counterparts, Genghis Khan abolished torture, granted universal religious freedom, and smashed feudal systems of aristocratic privilege. From the story of his rise through the tribal culture to the explosion of civilization that the Mongol Empire unleashed, this brilliant work of revisionist history is nothing less than the epic story of how the modern world was made.』

(Great rice cooker its last about 1.1 years)
『The rice cooker is best in class ie five stars.

The only negative thing about this rice cooker is that it last about 1 year before it fails. I have just recently had my second rice cooker fail and this time it lasted about 1.1 years similar to the first rice cooker. After contacting Zojirushi they gave me a repair place for the rice cooker. I have already purchased my 3rd zojirushi rice cooker and the repair for the second one will cost $136 dollars.

The nice thing is that you can get it repaired and the customer service was really nice on the phone.

Both failures caused the digital display to lock up.』

(Does the job perfectly)
『This is the second NP-HBC10 induction heating rice cooker I have owned, the first having been given to my son in a moment of weakness. As there are a great many reviews already, I'll just sum up the pros and cons as I see them.

PROS
The rice cooker is attractively styled and easy to use. As other reviewers have noted, be sure to remove and wash the inner lid after each use. This takes only seconds.

The control panel is clear and the interface is intuitive. While one should always read the manual one can operate the cooker without reading a single page.

Build quality, workmanship, fit, and finish are excellent, as they should be for the price.

The extended keep-warm function is incredibly effective. I have often held rice overnight and found it warm, moist, and not crusty the following day.

Cleanup is easy as the machine lacks many of the nook-and-cranny rice catchers of some other brands.

Brown rice is cooked to perfection every time. I don't often bother with the GABA cycle but for people who believe that it makes a difference, it is there to use.

The congee cycle (porridge, they call it) works well and not just for that purpose. You can keep soup hot, etc. I notice that the manual advises against this but I have done it many times.

Replacement parts can be ordered through the internet, if needed. The greatest risk I see is dropping and denting the cooking vessel. In a conventional unit, this might not make much difference but with induction the difference can be huge.

It works well for steaming, despite the concerns of those who opine that fuzzy logic cookers will not do so. You will, however, need to provide your own basket.

If you follow the recipes closely, the rice will always come out properly cooked and never crusted on the bottom. I've not had a single failure and I cook and eat lots of rice.

The cooker has amazing versatility. Steel cut oats for breakfast...yummmmm

Overall, it reeks of quality. That may be of greater importance to some than to others.

CONS
The stainless finish is an extra cost and essentially the same model can obtained in white for a bit less. Zojirushi NP-KAC10 5-1/2-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer with Induction Heating System

Induction heating consumes a bit more energy than conventional heating. Not a lot, but some.

The cost is high. A conventionally heated unit that works almost, but not quite, as well can be had much cheaper. Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 5-1/2-Cup Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker and Warmer, Premium White

Retractable cord would have been nice. Mine stays plugged in all the time because I use it so often but others might find the cord a bit of a nuisance.

OVERALL
Highly recommended. This is the best non-pressure rice cooker on the market, hands down. The sweet taste of perfectly prepared rice dishes will last long after the bitterness of the price has faded. If you want a pressure rice cooker, Zoji has those, too, but the price is even steeper. Zojirushi NP-HTC Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker&Warmer - Color: Stainless Brown, 5.5 cups / 1.0 liter

(Superb cooker)
『After cooking Steel Cut Oats for breakfast in my microwave for a year, I found that too labor intensive (cutting back heat level, stirring) so I searched the Amazon reviews for a rice cooker that would do the job unattended. This Zojirushi induction heated cooker seemed best suited for my needs. I bought it 3 years ago and have used it every morning for my SCOs (with added dried fruit), taking it with me on trips to use in h/motel rooms. I appreciate that it keeps my SCO mixture warm and edible for even hours after it's finished cooking. This machine is also excellent for cooking varieties of rice with different heats, times, as well as other dishes (e.g., chicken cacciatore, etc.). There are 2 minor things I wish it had: an auxillary handle to lift the hot metal pot out so I don't need to use a folded paper towel, and, it'd be nice if one could press a button to see the how much cooking time remains (it does switch from regular clock time to minutes left to cook at about 5 minutes before completion). But these wishes aren't so important to me to knock my rating down from 5 stars. Superb cooker.』

(Difficult payment handling)
『When the estimated delivery date came, I checked online, and found that there was a difficulty in the payment, so I tried to straighten it out, but I continued to have problems, so I tried to cancel the order, but it couldn't be canceled because it was in process. I went to a store and bought the same item, without any delay. Eventually the second one arrived, which we will gift to our daughter. Payment process is difficult and awkward.』

(always great rice)
『I just got this rice cooker and I love it. I'm sorry that I waited so long to buy it. I had a cheap rice cooker and it was terrible... I'd rather cook rice on the stove. The Zojirushi is always good whether you cook Japanese rice or regular rice but it does take longer to cook the rice 45-60 minutes. It is easy to clean.

My only regrets... not getting it sooner and not getting the 10 cup size but the 5 cup is great for everyday.』

『Along withmicro computer technology, this 5-1/2-cup rice cooker and warmer provides superior induction heating for more evenly distributed heat to ensure perfectly cooked rice every time. Choose from a variety of cooking functions including white rice (regular, softer, or harder), mixed rice, sushi rice, porridge, sweet rice, and quick cooking. In addition, healthy cooking options include brown rice, GABA brown rice, and germinated brown rice. The unit's black, thick, spherical, inner cooking pan and heating system provide even heating, and its interchangeable melody and beep signal indicates when the cooking cycle has ended. Other highlights include a detachable and washable inner lid, an easy-to-read LCD control panel, and automatic keep warm and extended keep warm, as well as a delay timer with two settings and a retractable power cord. The unit's clear-coated stainless-steel exterior not only cleans easily, but also matches any kitchen decor. Accessories include a spatula, a spatula holder, and a rice-measuring cup. The1230-watt rice cooker and warmer measures 14-3/16 by 9-13/16 by 7-15/16 inches.』
