Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Tiger America 10 c. Elec Rice Cooker) 『This is an AWESOME rice cooker. A MUST have rice cooker and don't get any size smaller than 10cups since their prices are almost the same.』
(Rice the way it was meant to be eaten...) 『I have owned this cooker for almost 17 years, yes, only one of them. And though the lid doesn't always close tightly any more, it still makes incredible rice. International friends who come to my house are always surprised, and pleased, to see the cooker. They know they will get to eat good rice. I have eaten what comes out of cheaper cookers. Buy a good one, and this is a good one. We use it one to two times a week and it has been a workhorse, 3 servings, 10 servings, it does them all. It keeps the rice warm for hours. A great investment.』
(Best Rice Cooker - Dependable - Great for the Money) 『Got Rice? Our family eats rice every day (2-3 times) and our last Tiger 10 cup rice cooker was a Christmas present from my parents over 10 years ago. When the non-stick got too worn out, I decided to buy a Panasonic based on decent user reviews. Well, the quality of rice that came out was not up to TIGER standard. With TIGER, you have fluffy rice that kept well for hours, not crusty/hard/crunchy. Well, after seeing this on sale, I had to buy it. Trust a life time rice eater. This is the best rice cooker for around $100 (or more) that you can buy.』
(Warm rice all the time) 『I have owned this type of Rice Cooker for more than 2 years. It is a little pricey compared to other rice cookers, but from my experience, it is worth it. This rice cooker cooks rice quickly (15 minutes or so) and it keep the rice warm until you are ready to eat. I had my rice stay on "warm" one time for two days without the rice turning brown and the bottom getting hard and burnt. We always have our rice cooker on "warm" so that we can have rice available 24/7. We eat rice for lunch and dinner and sometimes for breakfast too, so I always cook rice in the morning and it will last us until dinner. If we have left over rice for dinner, it will still stay warm and fluffy the next day.
I have tried several cheaper rice cookers sold in Target, they do a good job in cooking rice, but they dont keep it warm and soft... after a few hours of being on "warm" the rice turns brown and hard. These cheap rice cookers are only good for occasional rice eaters and for those who can finish their rice in one seating.
I was told also that Rice cookers made in Japan last longer than the ones made in China. There are similar "Tiger rice cookers" made in China but are sold at a much lower price ($50+-). According to friends, these doesn't last long especially if you plan to use your rice cooker everyday. So be sure to get a "Made in Japan" model.

(don't listen to naysayers.) 『i have had really good luck with delonghi products. not only good design but good quality too. this toast gets plenty hot and adjusts pretty accurately.』
(Less A Toaster, More A Bread Warmer/Crust Burner) 『You really have to give a LOT of thought to the moisture content and thickness of everything you put in there, making this a difficult toaster to love. My husband is in charge of toast duty, since I find this one very frustrating. If you buy bakery bread, that has a darker crust you will have to cut them off after it burns them, because it will every time. Thinner bread will always burn too. If you stop it before the crust burns, the middle part will not be toasted enough. The setting button has a large range, but I cannot see ever using the highest setting unless the bread was soaking wet or something. It never fails to burn, and I stand over it each time, my finger above the 'cancel' button, worrying, fretting, and I usually end up hitting it at least once, starting it again and end up burning the crusts again! AAAAAAAGH!』
(Excellent toaster) 『Beautiful brushed chrome toaster with lots of power. Does a great job on english muffins. Probably the best 2 slice toaster in the world.』
(Built-in Obsolescence) 『I was enticed by the product's appearance. It also had moderately good reviews. It worked perfectly adequately for about a year and a week! Just a few days after the warranty finished, toast started continuously rising and lowering into the toaster - the element never had a chance to do any toasting. I took it in to the local DeLonghi repair depot, only to be told that no parts were available for the toaster - it was basically chuck the entire product. I was not pleased, and wrote to DeLonghi customer service, but they didn't have the courtesy to even respond. A bad experience all around.』 『This sleek, brushed aluminum extra-wide toaster fits beautifully into any kitchen decor. Two extra-wide work in concert with self-adjusting grips to center food for precise, double-sided toasting. Loaded with convenient features and De'Longhi technology that make preparation and cleanup a breeze. Model #DTT900. One-year warranty.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Passion Sources) 『An excellent introduction to the rich music that the Middle East provides the world. Some first class performances by musical masters who really put their heart into their playing. A must have!!!』
(A source of passion) 『"Passion Sources" contains a sampling of Middle East and African music used for the controversial Scorcese film "The Last Temptation of Christ." Peter Gabriel's "Passion", released around the same time in 1989, contains original music reworked from the film's actual soundtrack. "Passion Sources" contains some original and altered field recordings plus songs recorded specifically for the movie. Music from both CDs appeared in "Last Temptation." Both soundtracks appeared over a year after the film's release because Gabriel wanted to shape the music into a coherent album. "Passion Sources" did not undergo such restructuring.
With Peter Gabriel's name on it, this CD probably introduced more westerners to non-western music than any other CD at the time. Subsequently, Gabriel's "Real World" records aimed to dampen the dominance of western music throughout the globe. The label continues to this day. "Passion Sources" was its very appropriate first official release.
The CD begins with an absolute bang: the spectacular Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan from Pakistan. Khan quickly became Real World's best selling artist. Sadly, he passed away in 1997 after gaining a worldwide reputation. He even appeared in Rolling Stone (a definite first for a Qawwali singer). As Khan's song slowly fades, Baaba Maal's amazing performance of the traditional Islamic call to prayer takes its place. Other highlights include Shankar's frenetic double violin bowing, Fatala's equally energetic drumming, Nass El Ghiwane's contemplative "Ya Sah", and the utterly relaxing "Song of Complaint" which sounds more like "Song of Relaxation." Another future Real World act, The Musicians of the Nile, also play up a storm.
Though overall an enjoyable listen, this collection does present somewhat of a mixed bag. As such, it plays more as a compliation than as a coherent thematic unity. That in no way detracts from the amazing music it contains or its ability to open up ears to new musical styles. Regardless, fans of "Passion" should not expect more of the same from this CD. Though most will probably enjoy everything here mainly because it contains the inspiration that led Gabriel to compose his soundtrack masterpiece. But best of all, "Passion Sources" will hopefully inspire an openness to the music of other cultures and of the world at large.』
(Moments of greatness) 『There are so many good tracks here, but the whole album lacks cohesiveness which i think is important for this type of music. The songs here show little resemblence to what they inspired (Gabriel's wonderful Passion) and they have a much more earthy feel to them, 'Yorky' and 'Tejbeit Ethiopian Bar Song ' being prime examples with such a fresh flavour to them, even after repeated listening. Yet whilst taken at their own merit, it still has the feel of a compilation, and it's perhaps best to look at the album as a taster record for each artist. Whilst it in no way compares to Passion proper, it is still a welcome addition to any music collection, and avoids the uneasy 'fusion' flaw that dogs too many Realworld releases.』
(One of many sources of Oriental music) 『The Last Temptation of Christ had two soundtracks. One was Peter Gabriels Passion, the other is this one. Where Passion featured a mix if traditional and modern sounds, Passion Sources is mostly the original traditional recordings that were eventually incorporated into the Peter Gabriel Passion album. This album may not be as easy to digest as the other Gabriel work but is worthy of including with it.
I enjoy both of them.
I used to just enjoy this album when I bought it a few years ago but after September 11, this album has had a new meaning to me and in fact has helped me rid myself of the hatred that I had of that part of the world and has actually made me even more fascinated with that area of the world.
I just wish people would stop hating on The Middle East and southern Asia and check out some of the awe inspiring music that musicians make.
Just the song Call To Prayer by Baaba Maal proves that the Middle East isn't a place of terror and hate but a place of wonderous musicians who could really give America a boost in it's music scene and end the corporate commercialism that has ruined Americas musical image.
Believe me this album after last years horrific events has been like a medicine and helped me maintain my respect for the Middle East plus I also happen to love music from the Middle East.
I hope I didn't stray too far off the topic of this CD but I just wanted to voice how this album helped me through this turbulent time. Believe me I alway prefer the Middle Eastern chanting anytime over the staccato of that awful Swedish Pop of Britney Spears.
God Bless both America and The Middle East』
(Music of the Orient) 『This CD is one of the two soundtracks for the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ". The other one, "Passion", deals more with Peter Gabriel's performances. This one deals with the more traditional Middle Eastern music used and sampled for the film. This CD is perhaps the greatest introduction to Oriental (Middle Eastern, Indian, African, Persian, Turkish, etc) music that is available. It covers an incredibly diverse range of styles and cultures. The songs on here range from wonderful songs performed by excellent traditional artists (NFAK, Hossam Ramzey, Shankar,, etc) to authentic ethno-music recordings. The first song is a wedding song from the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan himself, giving a magnificent look into the traditions of Pakistan. NFAK's song is one of his best. This is followed by Senegalese superstar Baaba Maal performing the Call to Prayer, which is an integral part of Islam. I strongly recommend you understand and respect that when listening to this track. Returning to South Asia, we are treated to a lively, upbeat Indian number from Shankar and the Epedemics. Following this is a beautiful, ephemeral flute song entitled "Ulvi", performed by Kudsi Erguner, one of Turkey's greatest musicians. Hossam Ramzey, gives a lively Egyptian Raks Shari number entitled "Fellahi" (farmer). I was very impressed with this one. It gives a view of Ramzey at his best. Next is a sample of traditional Egyptian Arab music. Then we are treated to a celebratory bar song from traditional Ethiopian musicians. Those unfamilar with Ethiopian music will be pleasantly surprised by this. Then we get a Perso-Indian performance by Mahmou Tabrizi Zadeh. This song fascinates me to no end. After that is another historic ethnic recording, this time from a Moroccan wedding celebration. As the NFAK song above showed, wedding celebrations are perhaps the greatest opportunities to hear music in Islamic cultures, so this shouldn't be too surprising. Next is a number by Abdul Aziz el-Sayed, which was recorded for the brothel scene, but was used for the Lazarus scene instead. And then we get a lively number from the African band Fatala, with lively percussion and vocals. This song is lively and uniquely West African, but fits in very well with the other selections. Next is the song from Nass el-Ghiwane (an excellent Moroccan group) which wound up being used for the brothel scene in the movie. Following closely is a performance by the Egyptian Gypsy group, Musicians of the Nile. And finally, the CD closes with a traditional Armenian ney flute performance, which I found both haunting and ephemeral. Its easily one of my favorite songs on the CD. Overall, this is an excellent and diverse CD. The music on here, which saw use in "The Last Temptation of Christ" is wonderful and inspirational, whether from Christian (such as Ethiopian or Armenian) or Muslim (such as Pakistani or Egyptian) sources. It is beautiful and wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about this CD.』

Chandranandan, is the most beautiful of all three tracks, which begins slowly and delicately, gently working its way towards an amazing culmination where melody and rhythm flow together seamlessly into an astounding and frenetic conclusion - an ending reminiscent of the startling beauty of a full moon night, to which the title owes its name. If there is one CD in the world you'll ever own, it should be this one.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Whoa! It works! (erm, maybe not... subtract three stars)) 『This item is marketed as a 'Vaper' brand at Northern Tool. I bought one to try out with my dinky air compressor to spray latex primer and paint on intricate woodwork.
On the minus side--
- The instructions are silly. Even the exploded diagram is wrong in significant details! :D I recommend you disassemble carefully, making notes, as if reverse-engineering the product. - The regulator doesn't appear to work. - Customer support is non-existent.
On the plus side--
+ Excellent price. + Stainless steel needle and seat won't rust when used with water-based paints. + Your compressor should have a regulator anyway. + Rebuild kits, not shown online, are available. + It works! Application rate using water based primer (Kilz) was about the same as with a 6 inch wide roller, but with much less mess. More adjustable than the cheap-oh electric sprayer I tried. Very, very slight over-spray. Uses much less paint to get good minimum coverage of bare wood-- no brush marks. Dries fairly fast, very good appearance. + Easy to disassemble and clean using provided wrenches.
NOTE: The (water-based, brush-able) material must be thinned by about 10 - 20% with water in order to go through the gun.
When adding up the savings in paint, brushes, and roller covers, this product will pay for itself after about five gallons of paint applied to woodwork.
A very good introduction to HVLP.
UPDATE-- After about three cycles of primer || clean || paint || clean the gun started to spray in pulses-- first too much paint, then no paint --in more or less a regular rhythm. The "manual" (Ha!) said the likely cause was an air leak around the paint chamber. I looked and looked and finally pulled the packing apart where the big needle goes through the back of the gun and found a small stringlet of dried paint had gotten in there. Cleaning that area and reassembling the gun resulted in the original great performance.
UPDATE II-- The problem has continued. The brass part that clamped the packing gaskets around the needle has now stripped, which makes it impossible to remove from the gun for cleaning. At this point, the gun is pretty much useless, since I can't get it apart to clean it.』 『Titan 19018 HVLP Vapor Gravity Feed Spray Gun - 1.8mm Stainless Steel Tip. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The 47 Human Beings) 『There are so many filmed versions of the classical Japanese tale of loyalty, The 47 Ronin also known as Chushingura, that sometimes there is very little incentive to try another version. But then you see the name "Ichikawa Kon" in the title, one of the legendary "Four Knights" of Japanese film (along with Kurosawa Akira, Kobayashi Masaki and Kinoshiita Keisuke), and you know it is worth your time.
Ichikawa's version is almost the complete opposite of Inagaki Hiroshi's famous sweeping epic Chushingura. Whereas Inagaki's version is all wide-screen and big, Ichikawa's story is intimate and personal. Inagaki filmed heroes. Ichikawa films men.
The story of the 47 Ronin is familiar, and generally needs no introduction. It is the Japanese equivalent of the Gunfight at the OK Corral, an actual historical event that has become so legendary that the true story has almost been lost. Young Lord Asano is provoked by Lord Kira in the Emperor's court, and draws his sword in a violent but ultimately failed attack. For this transgression, Asano is ordered to commit seppuki, ritual suicide, and his lands and castle are confiscated. Of his more than three hundred retainers, forty-seven decide to remain loyal, and bide their time for a year hiding their vengeance until one explosive winter night they assault the castle of Lord Kira to finish what their master had begun.
The 47 Ronin have become so legendary that they are inhuman, each a living embodiment of cherished Japanese ideals of courage and loyalty. In this film, "The 47 Ronin," Ichikawa strives to bring them back down to earth, to put blood back in the veins and make the heroes mortal. This makes for a less action-packed film, and there is very little sword swinging and blood letting. This is much more a story of candlelit rooms, of long goodbyes to wives and sweethearts, of second thoughts and hopeless ambitions. Ichikawa was a notoriously pacifistic director, and so his take on such an inherently violent story is fascinating. (Even his title shows his feelings. Ichikawa's original Japanese title ("Shijushichinin no shikaku") translates as the "47 Assassins."
Leading the cast in this production is Takakura Ken, a household name in Japan but perhaps best known in the US from his film Mr. Baseball. Takakura plays the leader of the 47 ronin, Oishi Kuranosuke, and his take is far from the stoic figure of legend. True to the story, Oishi feigns a man who has abandoned his duty for a life of pleasure, all while secretly plotting revenge. But this Oishi has truly fallen in love with a young a beautiful entertainer, and their scenes are some of the most touching I have seen in any production of this famous tale.
Animeigo's release of "47 Ronin" is up to their usual excellent standards. Animeigo offers a unique style of subtitles, where the dialog is subtitled with supertitled (above screen) cultural notes and explanations. I always appreciate this, as I feel I learn so much from the added information. There is also a "limited subtitle" option, which only subtitles the background signs and written Japanese ideal for anyone studying the language who would like to give the film go in Japanese. It seems like they should have added a third option without the supertitles, as they can distract from someone who just wants to watch the film but unfortunately this is not an option.
The DVD also includes extensive historical notes and program notes to learn more about the complex and interesting story.』
(A Modern Retelling of the 47) 『Chushingura, the story of the Loyal 47 Ronin, has been put to film over 80 times. What can Ichikawa Kon's (Burmese Harp) 1994 version add to the many others? This version is well acted and focuses more on the planning of their revenge on Lord Kira than Toho's 1962 Classic: Chushingura. Both of these films were produced by Toho, both were filmed in color, and both are available in the United States. Where they differ is that this version lacks the epic scope (and the epic running time of 207 minutes) of Chushingura. 47 Ronin fictionalizes (as all versions do) the behind the scenes planning and back stories of the people involved in this true historical event. We begin to see beyond the surface of the characters to their motivations and feelings; this is very much a modern reading of this story. 47 Ronin is beautifully filmed, capturing the many seasons of Japan, but this production at times looks like a television series. In some scenes a background open doorway is so overexposed that it almost engulfs the characters in the foreground. This would never happen in a first rate movie production. This is a minor quibble, because the acting and story is strong. This can be a hard film to follow because a Japanese audience would know the characters so well because it is such a famous historical folk story. Reading accounts of the true events would help the western viewer enjoy the film more (AnimEigo provides an overview in the special features). One other production note: AnimEigo has done a terrible job with the subtitles here. In some scenes dialogue is color coded is three colors which is very distancing and at other times a definition of a Japanese term appears in white text at the top of the screen! This is very distracting and takes away from what's on the screen (it's hard to read two sets of subtitles and watch the action at the same time!)

In turn they were themselves forced to commit seppuku.System Requirements:Running Time: 129 minsFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: SPORTS/GAMES/MIXED MARTIAL ARTS UPC: 737187011887 Manufacturer No: ANM-DV1188』

(Diesel Is Decent) 『Vin Diesel is a pretty good guy to play these new action-heroes. He's a big, muscular macho guy who men can look upon with some respect and the ladies can fall for. Unfortunately, a number of these testosterone-filled action films, including this one, are somewhat moronic in nature. However, they are undeniably entertaining.
You can always depend on one thing in these type of movies, from the "biker movies" of the '50s to today's films: the hero will always be a rebel against authority and any laws of the land. Also, an even more-recent theme is to have the government actually employ the rebel to get the job done because their men are unable to accomplish what this ultra-tattooed macho man can do! It's so much garbage, but it has its moments and Diesel still is a likable hero of sorts.
Like Arnold Schwarzenegger before him, and Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and then "The Rock" and now Jason Stratham, these kind of muscle-men have fairly clean mouths and at least some ideals.
For pure action, the movie succeeds because, in the end, it does entertain which is the name of the game. 』
(Sensory and Escapist's Action-packed visual paradise) 『The cast is sexy, the music hot- the setting (Prague) is exotic and beautiful- not for those seeking deep and interpretive value, xXx is a terrific way to get away from it all and live vicariously through shallow, uncomplicated characters while enjoying lots of action, well-shot cinematography, and Vin Diesel just being his sexy-self.』
(TATTOOS AND ATTITUDE) 『XXX is a unique style of action film that blends pop culture and New-Age rock to create a rather enjoyable action/spy film for the audience of the 21st century. Actor "Vin Diesel" stars as "Xander Cage", the stereotypical outcast and "menace to society" of what was then the present day. He lives by his own rules, loves extreme sports and detests the law.He is soon captured by the authorities and given his choice of fates,he may either rot in prison or infiltrate a Russian gang known as "Anarchy 99" to discover and hopefully stop their sinister plan. XXX does showcase some very well crafted stunts and action sequences along with some great laughs and enjoyable character moments along the way. However, many people label this film as being "stupid" in regards to action and acting, and while XXX does occasionally throw out the sarcastic one-liner and unrealistic stunt that action films are known for,one must quickly remember how XXX came to be. First, XXX was directed by "Rob Cohen", who also directed "The Fast and the Furious". Secondly, in efforts to make an action film for the new generation, what better man to cast than the star of Mr. Cohens recent hit film, actor "Vin Diesel". So if you're looking for an enjoyable and unique action alternative then XXX is the right movie for you. Simply put, it's 007 with tattoos and an attitude.』 『Movie DVD』 『Vin Diesel is no James Bond, and he doesn't want to be. That's whyXXXannounced Diesel as the adrenalin-junkie Bond of the PlayStation generation, copying the Bond formula so shamelessly that this action-packed silliness wouldbea Bond movie if it starred Pierce Brosnan. Reuniting Diesel with hisFast and the Furiousdirector Rob Cohen,XXXhas an attitude (if not a brain) all its own, plucking Diesel's Xander Cage from his celebrity as an extreme sports renegade, recruited by a National Security Agency big shot (Samuel L. Jackson) to foil a nasty Czech villain (Marton Csokas) who's eager to depopulate Prague with remote-controlled biological weaponry. Toss in a sulky, sultry Russian agent (Asia Argento) and you've got extreme Bond-age for anyone who thinks tuxedos are passé. This belated 1991 Omen sequel was an ill-conceived attempt to rejuvenate the popular series for the 1990's. Seeing as the year is now 2009 and there hasn't been another Omen movie since (apart from the remake), you can guess how well that worked out.
Basically Damien had a daughter somewhere along the line, but now that he's dead, she has just been conveniently adopted by another family with strong political influence. Like father, like daughter, there's just something a little off about "Delia". She doesn't get along with the other children, and anyone that crosses her seems to die a horrible death. Delia has dad wrapped around her finger, but mom isn't buying it. Like Gregory Peck did in the original, she sets out on a mission to find out Delia's true origins.
The fact that this is a "re-imagining" of sorts may make The Omen IV: The Awakening a seem bit more enticing. But it's not. This is a made for television affair, and if you didn't know that going in, it will become apparent in minutes. This was directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard, the same man who gave was the underrated, and unfairly criticized Halloween 5 - The Revenge of Michael Myers (Divimax Edition). Like his contributions to the Halloween franchise, it seems as though he tried to take the Omen series in a bit of a different direction, only it didn't work out quite as well here. Omen IV just doesn't have the atmosphere, cast, or wit that made the original so great. In truth it really can't even hang with the other sequels.
Overall another Omen sequel not worth wasting your time on, don't say you weren't warned.』
(Movies like this are why we get so many remakes) 『10-years after the 3rd Omen movie, The Omen IV was the movie to restart the franchise and keep it going. But its movies like this are why we have so many remakes. I wasn't expecting a masterpiece of filmmaking, but I was expecting a fairly decent movie; something that would serve as a decent time killer. But what I got was one really, really bad movie. Omen IV starts off weak, but watchable, but than it just goes down and becomes a complete waste of time.
The screenplay written by Brian Taggert wasn't very good, but not the worst I have come across. The script was weak and the biggest problem is it tries too hard to be like the original and it fails. The characters are fairly decent, but the script never really becomes much. The problem was the script just wasn't very interesting like I said the screenplay wasn't very good, but not the worst out there. But The Omen IV did have a weak script and there were more problems than just a weak script.
Originally Dominique Othenin- Girard was hired to direct and he's best known for Halloween 5. Dominique is an interesting director. He's not very good, but he does have some decent ideas. Halloween 5 is seen as one of the weaker installments and I agree, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine and the movie had some good ideas, but Dominique Othenin- Girard isn't a good enough director to execute them. Though I will stand by the final act of that movie being very well-done with some good suspense and tension; I don't think Halloween 5 though is the waste of a film it's made out to be, it's a decent slasher with some good moments, but in no way is Dominique Othenin- Girard a good director, but he does have some decent ideas.
Let's face it though Omen IV was made for cable TV and it's been 10-years since the last part Dominique is really the best you can get. Richard Donner who directed the original is out of the question and the odds of landing someone known for the horror genre or someone who is trying to make a name for themselves is also pretty much out of the question. Bottom line is you get what you pay for and Dominique Othenin- Girard is the best the franchise could do at this point.
Even though the script was weak Omen IV could have been fairly decent with the right director and Dominique Othenin- Girard was clearly not the right director. There is no suspense or tension and the scenes meant to entice suspense instead come out laughable. Omen IV has a lot of un-intentional comedy. During production it was clear Dominique wasn't the right person for the job and reports are he quit, but he was actually replaced in favor of Jorge Montesi. I don't know who shot what, but it seems he came in with a couple of weeks left to try and salvage the mess that was Omen IV.
Again I don't know who shot what, but too much blame cannot be put on Jorge Montesi; he didn't have time to really go over things there was no prep time and he can't reshoot any footage due to the movie would be going over schedule and over budget, which it was on it's way to begin with. Despite the weak script Omen IV could have been a decent flick, but the directing is so poor and also was poorly shot. There's no sense of pacing and again any of the scenes meant to be suspenseful come out really silly.
About the only saving grace were the actors. Some people say the acting was bad, but I have to disagree. While the acting here isn't brilliant none of the performances were really bad and they make this movie slightly better than it should be, but when you have a hack filmmaker it's kinda tough to give a top notch performance. Faye Grant as Karen York is the most interesting character, but overall just doesn't work. Asia Vieira as Delia York is actually pretty good, but she comes across more as a spoiled brat than the spawn of the anti-Christ. I think Asia Vieira does deliver a good performance, but again she seems more of a spoiled brat than evil.
After this movie the Omen franchise would be done until the remake was released in 2006. The Omen IV pretty much fails on every level, while the movie is never good it starts off watchable, but quickly becomes a total bore-fest. The cast is good, but very little else is. The Omen IV is poorly made and just not very interesting. The scenes with suspense and tension are laughable. Avoid this one and stick with the original. There's nothing worth watching here.』
(Really, was it that good?) 『I read the book Omen 2 on a flight to Vegas and I thought it was good book. I've been putting off buying The Omen set for awhile now and I finally got the set at a good price. The first one everyone claims is a classic and its hard to argue. Its a good film but I wouldnt put it in the top twenty horror movies of all time. The movie had its moments but I hate movies with religious overtones. Not a big fan on religion, wheter it be god or satan. The second film was alright but the rest of the series stinks. All in all, I didnt enjoy the Omen series that much.』
(I don't know why this is getting such bad reviews?) 『This movie takes place after the death of Damien. His child is born...Delia and she's awesome and a terror. She is ready to fufill the prophecy to rule the world and be educated in Rome. Her adopted father is in politics and will help her all the way along with her baby brother who is actually another devil child. It's all about politics and running or ruining the world...according to the book of Daniel that her adopted mother finds out before it's too late.
It's my favorite of the quatrilogy actually. Little Delia is adorable and mean but it's so fun to watch. I recommend the whole box set of these movies but this one is my favorite.』
(The Omen 4) 『Anyfan of The Omen who has faithfully watched the first three and not seen this one should stop right now so you'll continue to have great memories from the frightfest called the Omen. The Omen 4 (1992) is the worst sequel in the history of horror film sequels and I'm including the worst of the Halloween and Friday the 13th sequels.
The Omen 4 is about Damien's spawn and the next coming of the antichrist. The problem is the Damien's child who is set to be the next antichrist is a girl. The explanation of how a girl is the next antichrist doesn't work not to mention that she's an annoying spoiled brat. The original omen worked because you weren't sure what to believe about Damien since he was likable. Delia is not likable and the story is lame.』 『Movie DVD』

Not yet published 『Secret and X-Plane aircraft projects remain highly popular with historians, enthusiasts, modellers and the flight sim community. Surprisingly, secret Japanese planes of World War 2 remain an area which has been largely ignored due to scarcity of information. They do, however, have a large base of interest as unlike the majority of secret Luftwaffe programs that were resigned to the drawing board, the vast number of aircraft featured within this book actually flew or were in development. The book is divided into two sections dedicated to the two air forces of the IJA and IJN, with over 42 aircraft examined, each with its history, variants, performance, and any combat records laid out in an easy to read fashion. Much information about their secret technical exchanges with the Luftwaffe throughout the war is also uncovered. This is beautifully complimented by stunning colour renditions of the aircraft in combat and colour profiles of genuine markings and camouflage. Notable emphasis is placed upon the transonic rammer aircraft, strategic long-range bombers, and the ways in which the Japanese adapted German technology to their needs, particularly the Me262 and Me 163 Komet. Secret Japanese armaments are also covered in detail, with information on guided missiles, aerial rockets, and unique bombs. It is a gripping read for aviation and military enthusiasts around the world!』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Keeper of Treasure) 『Do you keep things? You know, horde treasures? If you could keep just one of those treasures, which would it be, especially if it signified something of great importance? Ba chose the lotus seed, the subject of this nostalgic story of Vietnam.
When she saw the child emperor abdicate, she ran into the royal garden and took a seed as a memento of a fallen leader (even though he was a mere figurehead at the time). After she married and had children, Ba still held onto the seed. When the war came, she escaped with her children as boat refugees. She grabbed the seed and not her pearl combs to take to America.
One day a grandson, headstrong and curious, wanted to see a lotus flower, so took Ba's precious seed and planted it near her onion patch. What is an emperor, he wanted to know. What is a golden dragon throne? What is a lotus bloom? These stories filled his head. Ba was heart-sick at the loss.
One day "a beautiful pink lotus/ unfurl[ed] its petals,/ so creamy and soft." Ba was delighted. "It is the flower of life and hope...the flower of my country." In time she gave a seed to each grandchild. The boy's sister, the narrator, hid her seed to repeat the new tradition for her own children one day.
So simple. But a simple story is brought to life by Tatsuro Kiuchi's "light-infused" paintings in oil and alkyd colors. There are three different lotus illustrations, each a unique artistic rendering. The first is a close-up of a single bloom against a mountain landscape in a brilliantly red-cast sky. The second is of the palace lotus garden where sunlight is soft and makes the blooms shimmer in whites and pinks. The third is a soft close-up of a single glowing pink bloom.
The lotus seed. A single treasure from Vietnam. I hope this story is true.
*The author's note at the end provides historical background of Vietnam.』
(A wonderful book) 『This has to be one of my favorite children's books and being a soon to be teacher I have read a lot of children's books. One of the reasons it's my favorite is that it touches a subject that is close to my heart, the Vietnamese culture. My mom came to America after the Vietnam war with my sister who was 5 and brother who was 1. I never knew how important the lotus seed could be, but growing up I enjoyed eating the fruit and peeling it off the seed. This book is truely one of a kind and as I read it I learned more about my mom's culutre and just how special it is.
This is one book that I'll keep for many, many years even when I retire from teaching.』
(Lotus seed) 『This book is great for encouraging students to ask questions and infer meaning! Try it out in the classroom!』
(This book is awsome) 『The lotus seed is about someone's grandmother who gets a lotus seed to remember her emperor. It takes place in Vietnam. It has lots of information obout what they used to flee from the Vietnam war. I think Tatsuro Kiuchi did a good job with the illustrations. I think every one from 5-8 should read this book.』
(Symbol of a Lotus Seed) 『This book helps me remember more about Vietnam and why I appreciate my culture so much. The significant symbolism of the lotus seed is the culture Vietnam and what the woman endurance in her past. Ba picked out a lotus seed from the imperial garden because of its beautiful and fresh scent. The lotus seed has never left her side as she carries it with her through the tragedy times and moved to a new country after the Vietnam War. One of her grandchildren planted the lotus seed in the backyard and it grew into a beautiful lotus flower. The beauty of it reminds Ba of her country.
This is definitely one of the best children's book I have ever read. The images are beautifully drawn as they describe Vietnam and the story. The symbolism of the lotus seed reminds me of my culture and I should never forget it. I really like how the author added a Vietnamese poem at the back. A must read for all young and old!』 『When she is forced to leave Vietnam, a young girl brings a lotus seed with her to America in remembrance of her homeland. Reprint. Reading Rainbow.PW. AB.』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (definitely worth reading) 『this book was more historical than i expected. the politics of china was woven throughout her story from a perspective one would never see or feel otherwise. her life remained hopeless throughout and it makes one see and appreciate just how wonderful the simple things of life in the united states really are. the style of writing is very matter-of-fact and you never feel she is whining or merely looking for sympathy. this is a very worthwhile book.』
(Hmm...) 『There is too much time spent in this book going over trivial knowledge and bits which are irrelevant to the story. I did enjoy the backstory, but the later on chapters about Hong Kong, Communism, etc etc was irrelevant. Compared to this, the trials of Adeline's childhood is much ignored. She focuses only on a few events of her childhood - the duck, seeing her stepmother beat her little sister, what her brothers did with the orange juice, etc. More of this book should have focused on her childhood and less on her adulthood.
While it's clear that deep problems existed in the family, the author does not really explore why her stepmother was so cruel, or reveal any insight in her situation. Her education is entirely paid for, including college, when her parents - if they truly were so evil - wouldn't have paid for her schooling. Heck, it was 1937 when she was born and her dad could have easily thrown her away, it happened to a lot of babies (especially girls) during this tumultuous time. She concentrates more on her own suffering and while I agree that Niang should have treated her stepchildren better, I can't help but wonder what this story is from her parents' or siblings' point of view. I hate to say it, but this book has a lot of whining. No disrespect to the author, but this is simply not a very good autobiography.
The ending was especially bitter. It was nice to see Adeline have a fond reunion with her aunt (though why she waited SO long before getting Baba made no sense) as well as finding her father's will. But there is no mention in this book of her confronting Lydia for the terrible letters she wrote. If there had been another chapter about her confrontation with Lydia and Lydia's family for them stabbing her in the back, I would have given this book an additional star. As it is, between the unsatisfying conclusion and the many chapters about other matters where she could have spent more time on her childhood, this book only gets 2 stars for an average, sometimes interesting, but ultimately disappointing read.』
(Falling Leaves -- the memoir of an unwanted Chinese daughter.) 『A sad and poignant tale with a real-life wicked stepmother who destroys the writer's childhood, even to adulthood, with her meanness and emotional abuse. She made her family's life a misery, and got away with it. Very gripping story.』
(Chinese Cinderalla) 『 The ONLY reason I bought this book is that I belong to a book club, and they decided they wanted to read Falling Leaves. I haven't finished the book (I'm on page 80 or so) and sincerely I have not found the book captivating. The characters are more like caricatures, the print is too small, and I don't like to read sad books unless they're classics. I have my own problems without reading sad books. I guess it's OK for a long trip, but the print is so small it gives me eyestrain, and the characters lack personality. Besides, this is 2009, and it talks about events from before World War II, the Cultural Revolution -- all that is old.』
(Falling Leaves: The Memoir of an Unwanted Chinese Daughter) 『A touching story of a spirited child which brought me tears at times. I can see and feel that feelings in the family as I relate that in my Chinese cultural background. worth reading.』 『Snow White's stepmother looks like a pussycat compared to the monster under which Adeline Yen Mah suffered. The author's memoir of life in mainland China and--after the 1949 revolution--Hong Kong is a gruesome chronicle of nonstop emotional abuse from her wealthy father and his beautiful, cruel second wife. Chinese proverbs scattered throughout the text pithily covey the traditional world view that prompted Adeline's subservience. Had she not escaped to America, where she experienced a fulfilling medical career and a happy marriage, her story would be unbearable; instead, it's grimly fascinating:Falling Leavesis an AsianMommie Dearest.』 『Born in 1937 in a port city a thousand miles north of Shanghai, Adeline Yen Mah was the youngest child of an affluent Chinese family who enjoyed rare privileges during a time of political and cultural upheaval. But wealth and position could not shield Adeline from a childhood of appalling emotional abuse at the hands of a cruel and manipulative Eurasian stepmother. Determined to survive through her enduring faith in family unity, Adeline struggled for independence as she moved from Hong Kong to England and eventually to the United States to become a physician and writer.
A compelling, painful, and ultimately triumphant story of a girl's journey into adulthood, Adeline's story is a testament to the most basic of human needs: acceptance, love, and understanding. With a powerful voice that speaks of the harsh realities of growing up female in a family and society that kept girls in emotional chains,Falling Leavesis a work of heartfelt intimacy and a rare authentic portrait of twentieth-century China.』
