The upper extension of his beautiful, expressive bass-baritone is thrilling, in perfect control. Artistically, he only grew stronger, as evidenced by his searing reading of 'Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen' under Boulez (DG), but this earlier interpretation comes close, and there's no comparison so far as vocalism is concerned. The WDR orchestra plays well under the rather prosaic leadership of the late Gary Bertini (a native Russian who emigrated to Palestine as a child in the 1930s)-- both are good enough, and the recorded sound is excellent. In all, this is a shattering reading by Quasthoff that should be heard by every lover of Mahler.
Next comes 'Kindertotenlieder,' recorded in concert, which Quasthoff hasn't recorded again to date. Bertini's utter ordinariness hurts here, because the greatest 'Kindertotenlieder' recordings are a collaboration of equals (Baker/Barbirolli, Ferrier/Walter), whereas Quasthoff must carry the whole show here. He's more restrained than in the earlier cycle but powerful and once again in great voice. Two of this singer's great gifts are his inwardness and an innate feeling for poetry, and Quasthoff is in full command of both. As singing per se, I've never heard a greater performance. (One hopes for a remake someday wth a better conductor, however.) The sonics are of studio quality.
The older Sweidsh baritone Hakan Hagegard, already an international star, is given four songs from 'Des Knaben Wunderhorn.' Hagegard doesn't have Quasthoff's reputation in Mahler, or in lieder for that matter, but at 48 he was still in prime voice in 1993. His singing is fully at Quasthoff's level, full of intensity, passion, and risk-taking. Too bad that Bertini ambles through the orchestral part, but Hagegard doesn't care. If only he had made a complete set of 'Knaben Wunderhorn.' As it is, it's worth seeking out his Wayfarer Songs under Masur with the NY Phil. (Teldec).

(Awesome series) 『This is a highly entertaining WUXIA series about two brothers separated at birth: Little Fish (the protagonist) was raised in a place called evil valley by a group of evil people who are really just misfits. His younger, and handsomer brother Flawless Flower, was raised by the women who killed his parents and has been raised to be the defender of the temple and to fight against the men who mistreat women (!).
As if this premise were not intriguing enough, this 8 disc series is very long and complicated! I agree with the other reviewer who said the villains are very well-done. None of them (Well, with the exception of Eunuch Liu) are entirely evil. I found myself really sympathizing with Biehe and his daughter even though they were bad. Flower is my favorite character... He is very hot... Especially in his white costume. I also like the relationship between the two brothers. While Little Fish grew up poor, he at least had a somewhat nurturing home life. Flower is taught very strictly by the masters of the Floral Palace.
Be warned, the first hour is perhaps my least favorite part of this series. Also, there is a lot of comedy, especially early on which takes a while to get used to... A touch more sophomoric than I like....If you persevere, however, you will discover this is a very addicting and well thought out series. Excellent!

(good for family entertainment and also sufficient for one who is watching alone at 5 am ...) 『this series is really good. good acting, good fight scenes, engaging, fast-paced plot, very WELL-DONE bad guys, great romance, this show has it. The acting is good, particularly Little Fish/Dicky Cheung. He was alternately the funny guy, the dependable older brother, the loyal friend, the passionate lover and the brains behind the gang. cheung was able to switch very naturally between these attributes, giving his Little Fish a very complex, real personality that the audience can fall in love with and become very attached to as the series progressed. Nicholas tse, well, OK, he is hot. With that great luscious hair and those flowing snow-white robes, he was just gorgeous in his role as Flawless Flower. For Nic fans, this series is worth watching just to sit and gape at the man. However, Flower does a lot of disappearing in this series. He just vanishes for a long time and pops up unexpectedly when he feels like it. That somewhat distanced me from his Flawless Flower. I just didn't care too much about him. But Nic tse too was good in this role. He can play the ruthless killer (the fight scenes in this show, with him, are just fantastic),dumb "log" and inexperienced child very well. But as the series goes on, situations called for a different kind of acting from him and he was able to perform that as well, very admirably and convincing too.fan bing bing, other than bringing her very good looks to the screen, does little to really affect the story. she was fun at the beginning with Little fish but got boring in the end.
The beginning of this series will drag a little. but by being patient makes up for it as the series gets very exciting very quickly and is definitely worth it. another good thing to be noted about this series is, the bad guys were VERY good as bad guys. They were not a bunch of morons, continually tricked by the good guys. They were smart, cunning, deliciously underhand, very sneaky and very powerful. However, as each bad guy has his evil reign and does the most evil he can, after a while, it is as if the directors are tired of them and they make a short appearance (after quite a long absence, be it lack of doing evil deeds or really disappearing) to be conveniently "disposed" off. that was really quite anti-climatic and sort of put me off. another thing to be noted is, this show really has a lot of casualties. People die for other people and then, those other people end up dying as well. really depressing to tell you the truth. And of course a lot of wasted beauty and "Dang! bad timing". It got a little too excessive at the end, with the directors trying to milk out as much tears as they can from their audience. and if the audience knows that, it doesn't work too good. Also, events were very well-linked and connected, each episode revealing a little more to that big picture. that is, only until around eps 20 something. After that, that big picture was done and everything sort of mellowed down a lot, with just 1 main event running the show. The rest of the time, seemed just to wait for the good guys' revenge. The series reached its climax too fast and lost steam at the end. the humour of this show, at times, is an acquired taste. the chinese instrumental music in the series was good, and this does not just mean the 2 themesongs by Cheung and Nic Tse. the music during the show really helped the mood at times and was very well done. One really should watch this series. If not for the other good parts of it, at least for Cheung. He was absolutely fantastic in this series. I felt so much for Little Fish, it was absurd. (The hunter is a wolf but he doesn't stalk the forests, just your neighborhood) 『The 9th book in the series left me wanting to jump into the next one, the moment I was done I wanted to read the next Cross book, one of these days someone will confirm that Patterson is a wizard, I don't know how he does it, but his stuff is so good I can never get enough. That is often the case, especially after reading the back of the next book, the whole story line of Alex Cross, his personal and professional life is so well written that I can never tired of it. Each book is a chunk of his journey and like I always said, best enjoyed in order. His life is a journey, not a destination and people who only read one here and there will really miss out on the big picture.
So Cross is finally in the FBI...but he's still using his street smarts and his DC cop ways to get information and never stops trusting his gut and his senses. His private life has settled nicely, the kids are doing well and his new relationship seems to be off to a solid start, but ghosts from the pasts are back and they want something form him, a part of him that will hurt to give up. On the work front he's stuck chasing someone very dangerous and deadly, someone called The Wolf, who's part of the Russian Mafia, someone who doesn't want to be found regardless how loud his conquests and atrocities are. Missing women are someone connected to a prostitution ring, one that leads to the Wolf. He's very tricky to catch and seems that one on really knows who he is as there are many crooks who are willing to protect his identity with their lives. There are some cool chase scenes and the usual suspense and now the distrust. After the discovery of the last mastermind, Cross feels that there are fewer people that he can trust than before and sooner or later one of them will get to him through phony friendly connections. This was a fast and run read, I enjoyed it a lot.

The re-introduction of Christine and the chapters focused on Alex's family more than made up for it. The mystery was face-paced but the ending wasn't all I had hoped. (Good enough, but a bit slow moving) 『In Fractured, the only daughter of wealthy Atlanta couple, Paul and Abigail Campano, is kidnapped from their house. When the local police make an error of judgement at the beginning of the investigation, Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, is sent in to assist with the case. He is paired with Faith Mitchell of the Atlanta Police Department, a woman who has reason to dislike him.
As with the earlier, Will Trent novel, Triptych, the twists arrive early on in this story. After the first initial scenes, however, I felt the pace of the story became quite slow, and a bit dull, as Will and Faith slowly piece together the pieces of the case. It did not really pick up until the last hundred or so pages, when everything starts to come together. I did think the character development was good though, and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.』

(By the time I found what I liked, it was ruined) 『I bought Battlefield 2 quite some time back, but found air power to be frustratingly overpowered. Anti-air defenses are a joke, and it didn't take long for good helicopter and jet pilots to learn how to utterly dominate the game. Being a fan of ground fighting, I put the game on a shelf and decided to check back in a couple of years to see what had changed.
Fast forward to last spring when I bought this pack with all the expansions. Bad news: nothing's changed regarding air power. It's still a joke to do anything but hop in a cockpit. Good news: playing on maps WITHOUT air power at all was a new found joy. Take out the helicopters and the game becomes playable for the full range of infantry to tank to dune buggy. Bad news: The new expansions don't add much. The new maps are mostly mediocre and thus go unplayed overall. Worse news: The player base is largely a bunch of basement dwelling asshats who think video games are SERIOUS BUSINESS and 13 year olds with ADD. Worst news: the game is now riddled with hacking. Blatant, even humorously so. I can deal with the 100 jeeps suddenly falling from the sky at once and blowing up half a square mile, (at least that's kinda funny) but the jerks who hang out making impossible shots over and over with aim hacks to crank up their "1337" online stats are the real game killer. Because as we all know, being the 2,523rd ranked player out of 56,965,928 in an online game is an accomplishment worth dogged pursuit.
The game can still be fun, but searching for a server not completely ruined by hacks or just generally nasty players made the game more trouble than it was worth once the novelty wore off. As hacking is already bad and will likely only continue to get worse, I can't highly recommend the game. That's a shame, because it's a darn good game overall despite some frustrating imbalances in air power.』

Negatives: * A little tight on me for long-term comfort, but for me this is true for almost all headsets. * Charging cable is short, about 28 inches. If you plug the USB in under the desk, you may have to keep the headset there too. * I don't know how you would tell if it's muted, but I haven't tried. I just use my applications to mute. * Connectors on charging cable are USB standard, but voltage is wrong (according to the instruction booklet) so be careful not to cause damage by plugging into the wrong place. (Great USB powered DVD Drive) 『I needed a reasonable priced yet quality built DVD drive for my netbook. After doing some research I narrowed it down between Asus and LG. The Asus was 30 dollars cheaper but did not have lightscribe as the LG did. This feature wasn't important to me (I have other drives with lightscribe and very rarely if ever use that feature), so I decided to go with the Asus. The Drive comes with installation software, a cradle, (so you can mount it vertically) and a double ended usb cable. If you need more power to run the drive, use both usb ends and that doubles the power. So far, I have just used ONE end and have had no problems running the drive. The drive is very contemporary looking, and no bigger than a DVD or CD disc. It won't fit in your pocket, but it will slip into your bag or netbook case with ease. The case is a very shiny, black piano like finish and does attract fingerprints. Installation was a breeze, just plug n play. (you will need your own program though to play dvd's, as one is not provided in the software) I use Nero to burn my discs ... I have burned approx 50 discs, mostly cd's flawlessly ... not one coaster ... I have also burned several DVD's both single and double layer with the same results. Bottom line, this is a rock solid little DVD/CD burner that performs outstandlingly. For the money you can't go wrong.』

Works Perfect With Asus 1201N!) 『For those of you just buying your 1st Asus product, this is the RAM for the 1201N if you need to know what goes in that notebook/netbook. The OEM configuration is 2 x 1GB SODIMMs, so you must replace *both* DIMMs with new 2GB modules to maxx out the SDRAM @ 4GB. There's a kit with 4GB of this SDRAM here at Amazon.com if you look for it, and the price is a tiny bit cheaper than buying 2GB twice like I did.
With the 1201N, to install this upgrade to 4GB you must first disable Boot Booster in BIOS, ie do this BEFORE you take the notebook's RAM cover off and replace the memory modules. After replacing the modules, then boot back up into BIOS (F2 key, tap it every 1/2-second until you see the BIOS screen displayed) and go to the 1st window there where RAM is listed. Make certain that 4096MB RAM is being shown in that window, and you're good to go! Go to the BIOS screen (NO.3) where Boot Booster resides again, enable it, hit F10 to save and exit, hit Enter, and you're done! Boot back up normally into Windows after that to enjoy the 4GB RAM versus stock's 2GB RAM.
I always like to make *triple sure* that all is well, and I use Everest Ultimate Utility with my PC's, all of them get it installed, and sure enough with Everest's display for RAM it showed 4GB RAM on board also, 2 x 2GB SODIMMs in slots 1 and 2, so all was good with my installation of this RAM. Windows Task Manager with the 1201N will show 3328MB RAM available, and that's Windows way of looking at it, there's nothing wrong with that-- 32-bit OS will only allow 3.25GB of RAM for the OS, and the rest ION graphics gets with the 1201N...so that's where the other contingent of RAM has 'vanished' to with Task Manager's assessment if you go there and look for available RAM.
As to how the 1201N works with 4GB of RAM vs 2GB RAM? It is able to multi-task much better, and of course things are faster when you have multiple windows and programs open at the same time. I find that boot time improves also, in my case to less than 1 minute from a cold boot, and restarts take less than 30 seconds; with 4GB of RAM on board. I am not running the 32-bit OS though, so part of the credit for fast response goes to a nice, clean install of 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, and I can highly recommend that to anybody who owns the 1201N...it transforms the notebook to a much better computer to dispense with all of the 32-bit garbage from AsusTek, all those drivers and utilities that do nothing but slow down the computer can be dispensed with, and the computer is that much better for it!
Overall, the Asus 1201N loves 4GB of RAM, and it's a very worthwhile addition to an already great computer, perhaps the best notebook/small laptop that costs less than $500 today, you know? Having 4GB of RAM vs 2GB is an easy thing to do, the computer benefits a bunch, and your work will be easier, faster, with this nice Crucial RAM.
For your information the RAM has 6-6-6-18-51-2T Clocks timing overall in the 1201N, so it's not the barn burner stuff that the Elpida RAM from Kingston is, but then again, it doesn't suffer from the problems of Elpida RAM either! So it's a good thing, I think, to use this RAM instead of the Kingston RAM, which is very aggressive with 4-4-4-12-34-2T Clocks timing. There are those who love the Kingston RAM, but I don't want to take a chance with Elpida RAM at this time...too many failures have been documented and I don't want that in my computers.
That's about a wrap on this Crucial 200-pin 800Mhz PC-6400 RAM. I think it's a bargain at Amazon.com's pricing, it comes in a nice package so it's probably going to be aok fine in terms of a fragile transit...none of that here...and Crucial is good SDRAM, known to be effective, good brand RAM that works great in normal applications. I highly recommend this RAM for the Asus 1201N, it's the brand to get!

I called the manufacturer (number on the container)&was immediately connected to a vet who addressed my concerns.
It took about 3 weeks to see a difference - dwarf horses have malformed legs and suffer from twisted joints. These little guys spent most of their life laying down because standing was obviously painful.
It's been about 8 weeks since they started using Cosequin, they are on maintenance now.
