It got severed when it was pinched in my recliner, something that has happened to many power cords over the years but has never actually broken one! When I went to replace it, I saw this one priced about $20 less than the name brand, which was more than enough to make me bite.
This new cord is more sturdy, longer, and isn't such a chore to fit in the machine. The original had an "el" shaped head that was often difficult to remove and insert into the slot. This one is straight and slides right in, but doesn't feel loose, so I don't worry that it will become too loose in the slot any time soon.』
(Functional Adapter for the Eee PC 900) 『I have the Eee PC 900 series and this power adapter matches the electronic specifications of the original adapter for my laptop. As the other reviews stated, the previous power adapter began to wear and the wires were not making proper contact due to coiling the adapter's cables at least twice a day. The male plug on the adapter cable that plugs into the laptop extends out of the plug approximately 3mm and, like other reviews, has a tendency to to "unplug" itself. This is due to the plug's exterior circumference being larger than the original adapter. This is not to say that the cable falls out on its own, but if you were to move from desk to couch, expect to have to plug it back in. The adapter's brick does not have an LED on it which is fine, and does not get too hot or humm loudly like some power adapters might. Of course the cable length is sufficient though bordering on being too long. Overall, the product is a $20 dollar cheaper replacement buy that performs the same functionality as the original adapter. If you have the Eee PC and you need a replacement, grab one of these, they do just fine.』
(It's OK but not great) 『I bought this adapter for a EEE PC 1000HD. I'm not sure how but I believe that the wires inside the cable broke, so I found this replacement here. It works fine because it powers and charges the PC as expected, but the plug sticks out about 2 o 3mm. I'm not sure if this is the reason why, but the cable tends to slip out from the PC's female plug :S I have to constantly be checking that it is plugged in and plug it back in, which is very annoying. This is my second and last ASUS as my first ASUS had the same problem with the ac adapter, and I was very careful with this one...』

This was $291 when I bought it with shipping. Size - there are larger 11.6" versions, but with a slower CPU and heavier. The 10.2" was enough for me. Weight - better netbooks are heavier and more expensive.
For me, a netbook means compromise. It's what you should be aware of going in. It will not completely replace your existing laptop (or desktop). But its handy to have and if its light/small enough, you'll take it with you everywhere.
I looked at the Acer and their 10.2" netbooks had smaller keyboards. The Asus keyboard is pretty easy to get used to. I blog on it all the time on the train to work. The touch pad will sometimes annoyingly move your cursor and you end up typing a paragraph up in the middle of another sentence.
Three USB ports - I use them rarely with an external mouse or for a USB drive. I've never filled all three yet. Volume setting - at first it wasn't loud enough to hear a movie on the train. Max out the windows volume. Then increase all those mixer settings (Asus sound settings, not the Windows ones). Fast enough for Picasa - the SD card reader is awesome. Great for photo shoots rather than relying on the LCD screen at the back. Also replaces those backup photo hard drives the pros used to carry around.

The keyboard is big enough for your hands and the screen is bright and allows you to see all the work you are doing. I must admit, I usually use it to browse the web, check email, write in word and so on. So it is just perfect for what I do. I also like to work with the photographs I take but as of yet I haven't put a program on here to do that. I purchased the extra RAM and may I say that is a MUST buy. Just let me say buyer beware if you are buying it for another netbook....be sure to check the type of RAM your netbook uses.
We have a desktop and a laptop but I wanted something I could take with me on trips, in the car, just about anywhere. This netbook fits neatly into my purse and will be welcome to such boring long trips out of town. If you are thinking about a netbook research but this one is a great one....and you can expand the RAM to put more stuff on it. I even have a MMORPG on here and it runs fine. Hoping to put another one on it soon.

(Asus is the best, but order the upgraded ver of the 1005ha) 『All in all, the 10005ha is probably the best all around netbook you can buy. While the toshiba and the samsung have better keyboards, and the toshiba has a better mouse...the samsungs speakers are much improved...each oft hose has major flaws (toshibas battery sticks out of the case and their speaker is on the BOTTOM...Samsung used a glossy screen that reflects direct light and becomes unwatchable unless shaded! Plus its a 270 prcoessor not a 280, and no BT). If you want the biggest and baddest power netbook out there, the asus is it.
Just not THIS one. There are various flavors, all called 1005HA. You really WANT the bigger one. You get BluteTooth, you get a 10.5 hour battery instead of this measly 3 cell 4 hour thing, and you also get a real camera (1.3mp, good enough for skype chatting at decent level...the 0.3 that this stripped down model comes with I wouldnt OWN! Thats designed output resolution size smaller than a PDA screen!!! Cellphones have better cameras!)
Yes, I strongly recommend the asus...they make a good machine. Anything with an N270 or 280 really isnt half bad. Unfortunately newer netbookz will all start getting the cheaper slower Z processors...thank you for that INTEL....so if you are planning to do MORE Than email or chat...wanna run some programs...or god forbid MULTITASK, the newer 12 inch netbooks will all be SLOWER! The few already available all have Z processors, and all the future ones are scheduled to. Its a chip thing. Plus the N's like the 1005ha are ridiculously power efficient...hence the longer battery lyfe.
But a 1005 (or a 1008, less battery, but prettier with covered side ports...if that matters to you)
You cant go wrong with a toshiba either. I liked mine, the keyboard was great, so was the mousepad...samsung also...but you try all 3, and you realizee mostly identical after practice....but the asus has better performance in all the unfelt but measurables. longer battery, beter performance (slightly) bluetooth, Wireless N, its the one. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Good but could be even better !!!!) 『I got my Asus A636N on Amazon.com in Sept 2006. I have been using it for the past 2 months and I like it.
I always wanted to have a PDA combined with a GPS. Asus made some initial improvements on A636 model (with new 2.0 blue tooth as well as adding 802.11 b/g WiFi. The GPS that is provided by Destinator is also recently udated to the version of 6.0 which has some improvements over the previous version.
The PDA is like any other Windows Mobile 5.0 (I had my Palm Vx for 3 years and I loved it for its simplicity). Also, I was never a big fan of Microsoft period. I find Outlook difficult to use versus Palm software.
It took a while for Amazon to ship this thing to me (A general complaint I have with Amazon - they take a while !!!) Out of the box, it was pretty easy to put together. It comes in a nice box with everything in it. Having a ZoneAlarm firewall on my computer I found that to synchronize this PDA to my computer Outlook program is difficult. The ZoneAlarm prevents one to connect with the Micosoft ActiveSync. In the box, there is actually a piece of paper talking about this potential problem and it provides an address to microsoft.com to figure this problem out. Anyway, I have a free version of ZoneAlarm but the directions on how to fix this problem on Microsoft posted for the ZoneAlarm Pro. So I still can't get this thing to synch as long as my computer is running Zone Alarm. So to do this you need to shut down zone alarm and then connect to your PDA.
The GPS: My dad uses a Nuvi 350 and that little thing is great. The GPS their seems better and much more intuitive than on Asus A636N. Battery life take a beeting when it comes to using a GPS. Good that a car charger is provided by Asus. The GPS does work and it is pretty good. Gets the signal in about 1 min. It is however, as I mentioned little hard to figure out than for example in Nuvi 350.
Something that is also bugging me about Outlook is when you sat the appointment you made need with an alarm (reminder of sorts that Outlook has). The PDA would somehow turn itself on. This increases the amount of battery used and I found my PDA dead after about 3 days ow not turning it on at all (I thought I had at least 50% energy left). Anyhow, to solve this problem you need to make sure that no appointment has an alarm checked of (or make sure to dismiss the alarm when you turn on the PDA).
The battery life as advertised is quite good and could hold charge for a long time if not used at all.
I hope for a better GPS as well as maybe a little thinner PDA, having a cradle (I think the new Asus A639 has the cradle) and priced less. Otherwise, besides microsoft problems, pretty happy.
