『The first laptop had dark spots in the corner of the display. Amazon next day shipped the replacement. Excellent customer support. This laptop runs great out of the box with only a small about of junk software. Mainly ASUS applications showing you some of the cool things you can do. Windows 7 so far has impressed me but be aware you will need to do a large amount of updates. (1 gig or better) The HDMI interface works great for connecting your HDTV to play Blu-ray media and web content. Laptop runs cooler than expected but I still would recommend a good power cooler pad.』

『I did a lot of research on 10.1" netbooks and this is the one which stood out to me. The size and battery life were really important and the fact that it has XP didn't hurt. The reviews on Amazon really helped also. I ordered the 2 gig memory and the leather carrying pouch sleeve at the same. The orders came separately but in a reasonable time frame. I set up the computer with the original memory but when I added the 2 gigs, it did make a noticeable difference. The leather carry pouch was great idea. It protects the computer just like a mobile phone leather carrying case does. The finger print issue is eliminated. I highly recommend it also. The computer works great but I am not sure what settings give you 9+ hours of battery life. Under normal use with normal settings I have gotten 5-6 hours. No real complaint there because as we all know these battery life claims are not realistic. There are ways to crank down the computer but you sacrifice brightness and speed. The track pad is a little sensitive and sometimes has its own mind but all manageable. All in all, it is a great little computer and I highly recommend it.』

『When we got the ASUS my wife, who this was purchased for, loved it. Then within a week after one of those ubiquitous Windows updates the backlight stopped working properly. If one powered down the computer the backlight would work for a short while and then it wouldn't. After quite sometime with ASUS customer support it was decided that the problem was in the screen and we shipped it to ASUS at our expense. It has come back to us and seems to be working fine. So now I can say my wife loves it but clearly we are not happy with having it break down right away and having to pay to ship it back to ASUS.』

『I've been using this netbook for around ten months now. This machine is a great value. I'm currently dual-booting Windows XP Home and Windows 7 Professional. This little netbook runs Windows 7 very well even with all the "pretties" turned on (read: Aero effects).
Here's some thoughts-
Screen- The display is fantastic. Its crisp, bright, and readable both indoors and out. The XP-only feature of changing resolution to 1024x768 is great for when you absolutely need that resolution.
Keyboard- The keyboard is also fantastic. Its comfortable and easy to use.
Battery- The battery is one of the best features on this machine. I've personally gotten 9.5 hours playing civilation III with the wifi off and screen brightness at 40%.

『I have had the 1000HE since May 2009. I upgraded the memory to 2GB going with the premise that more memory is always better.

Originally purchased for carrying around the house and web surfing, this netbook has been pressed into prime duty since the main household PC died a month ago. A new PC is on the Christmas list, but until then we have decided to "make do" with the netbook.

I am very impressed with the versatility of this little pc. Currently, it is hooked up to a Samsung 22 inch monitor, external hard drive, Logitech webcam, printer, external speakers and on the household wireless network. It has performed flawlessly. I have not noticed much performance degradation at all. It boots up qickly and runs great. I am sure the extra speed from the N280 processor helps as well as the memory.

The extend feature on the video lets me use the netbook's screen and drag windows over to the Samsung monitor. The 1000HE remembers where the window was so I when I open a program up, the window opens on the monitor it was last on. It is very easy to switch video resolutions for those programs which need the 1240x768 mode.

My wife and I use Skype and while the built in camera works just fine, we use an external Logitech webcam which supports a higher video feed. This netbook handles it perfectly and if there is any issues with through put, it is usually on the other end. We also run MS Office 2003 on the ASUS and it works great with that, too.

The only keyboard quirk is the shift key on the right side of the keyboard. My natural tendency is to go too far to the right and hit the arrow key, but that is just a retraining exercise for the fingers.

I am very impressed with the power of this netbook. While it does all the things I bought it for, being able to substitute for the home pc has exceeded my expectations for this computer.』

『If you intend to use this for HD playing for H.264 encoding using DXVA, you are wasting time. I finally returned this item.

1. Installation/Uninstallation very difficult
This card is very difficult to plug in the AGP. Need extra power connector or a Y connector. The fan housing actually blocks AGP lock so if you want to unplug the card, you cannot get the lock and unlock it from AGP. I almost broke my finger nail for that. If there are motherboard capacitor nearby, be extremely careful

2. The normal driver for ATI does not work. You need to get the hotfix for AGP. I followed many websites' suggestion to enable the DXVA, nothing got worked out as expected. Only 1 HD clip worked with DXVA activated when using MPC HC. I just don't understand why the DXVA is so difficult to work on this card. Later, I purchased a PNY NVidia 8400 GS PCI, it worked mostly.

The conclusion is that ATI is lagging behind on NVidia big time on HD playing. Things are totally different now. I still remember that ATI was so good in 2001.』

『This is an excellent card for a non-gamer.

The above reviewer has it backwards. The GPU is underpowered for gaming. The memory is more than the GPU can likely utilize but there MAY be some applications that can utilize more than 256MB, especially if you have a dual-monitor setup.

Other:
- Great drop-in for motherboards with underpowered on-board graphics.
- Not a modern gaming card though some games with low requirements, especially some older games may run fine.
- Dedicated memory instead of sharing onboard RAM. Very useful if you are extremely limited in onboard RAM (freeing up 128MB out of 1024MB does help)
- The UVD can decode AVC/H.264 and VC-1 1080p video (or lower). You likely need to install the free application "K-Lite" ([...]) and ensure DXVA is enabled. Very useful especially if your CPU was previously underpowered. Just watched Hellboy (1080p, MKV, AVC, DTS 6-channel). My X2-4800+ CPU used 65% of its cycles without DXVA enabled (no hardware graphics decoding) and 3% (THREE PERCENT) with it enabled. Vista or Windows 7 used 10% more on average for the Windows overhead but movies still didn't go above 20%.
- full Aero support
- There is essentially NO noticeable difference between most modern graphics cards. Differences in the Windows interface performance are usually due to differences in the Hard Drive speeds or amount of RAM. A fast SSD and at least 2GB of RAM (with this card and probably any dual-core CPU) will provide the best experience for multi-tasking and the basic Windows experience.

Conclusion:
An awesome little card that is adequate for most non-gamers and can provide a nice boost in various ways for older computers.』

『Yes, I know as well as the next guy that you should look at a lot more than memory when buying a graphics card. I bought this card without really finding any reviews for it. A lot of cards come with more memory than the card's processor can handle. They upgrade the memory (very inexpensive) and leave the slower processor.
I am more and more convinced that this is the deal with this card. I know, there are many more factors to getting good graphics, (pixel shaders, etc.) and I think that this card is a little skimpy when it comes to performance, and especially with the specs that they think that no one will check.
Runs my vista eye candy nicely, but other than that I don't think I can notice much of a difference between this and my old 128mb card.
Seriously people, look at more than the memory when buying a card.』
