『I'm no techy, and I still found this product easy to use. Instructions and website were easy to follow. The size, price and functionality of the device appear to be unmatched.

Currently using it configured as a repeater to boost my existing router (I was having problems having enough signal strength for my computer and my tenants 2 computers). Problem solved.

At the same time I also have it plugged into my Samsung BluRay Player allowing me access to its YouTube viewing capabilities.

I have recommended this device to co-workers.』

『I bought this product because it was so well reviewed in Amazon and because I really wanted to connect my PS3 to the internet. I have a cable modem that plugs into a broadband router which in turn plugs into my computer. I plugged the WL330GE into my router and tried to access it via the IP address specified in the instructions but the browser failed to connect.

Consulting the instruction book was pointless. It's reassuring thickness turned out to be caused by a dozen translations of the same 4 or 5 pages which lacked a troubleshooting section. Eventually I figured out that this device is configured in Gateway mode by default which means it needs to be connected directly to your PC's network card to be configured. Once I did that and set it up as an Access Point, I was able to plug it back in to my router and have my PS3 recognize it.

I've only had it working for a night or two but so far no issues or hassles. The actual configuration screen in the browser seemed straight forward and tough to mess up.

Pros: Tiny, draws power from a USB port, works like a charm
Cons: Poor setup instructions for anything but a standard Gateway mode install』

『I bought this to use it in gateway mode, which is the default. That's where you plug the ethernet cable from the wall (if in a hotel) or from the modem into the ASUS. Also plug the power cord (or USB power) into the ASUS, and I receive a wireless signal.

I got this so that I could use my Apple iPod Touch in a hotel room where the hotel has a cable, but no wireless. It works great.

There are other modes (so you can use it for different stuff), but I don't use them.

It comes with the unit itself, a carrying bag, a USB power cable (about 1 foot long), an ethernet cable (about 1 foot long), and a power adapter to plug into the wall (with a much longer cord).

I had purchased a blu-ray player that only had an ethernet port for connection to the internet. I did not want to run a cable from the player to the router, so my options were either a Powerline or a wireless solution. Since I already have a wireless network in range of the player, I decided to try the wireless solution using the Asus WL330GE as an ethernet adapter.

This solution has worked out well for me. The WL330GE had no problems establishing a connection with my WPA2 encrypted network. The throughput is better than I was getting with an older model laptop that was using a wireless G network adapter. I really can't complain about the adapter itself. However I can complain about the manual. I had read the reviews prior to buying this product and was expecting a terrible manual. What I found was that the manual was poorly written, but not as bad as I had expected. I have deducted one star from this rating because of the manual.

Setup
Setup of WL330GE as an Ethernet adapter for use on a WPA2 protected network
I am going to explain the steps that I took to setup the WL330GE. These steps may not be the best way to do this, but they did work for me. I chose to setup the WL330GE using the Web Interface. The manual instructs you to setup your computer with a static IP address. I chose not to do this, and I got away with that since I got the WL330GE setup as an Ethernet adapter and connected to my network on the first try. If I had made a mistake setting up the unit, I would have had to setup my computer with a static IP address in order access the WL330GE Web Interface the second time.

1) Connect the WL330GE to the computer using the Ethernet cable and the USB power cable.

2) If your computer has established a wireless connection, disconnect it.

3) Open your browser and connect to [...]

4) The Web Interface will prompt you for a username and password. By default the username is admin and the password is admin.

5) Select the Adapter tab, and your network should be displayed in the Quick Setup window

6) Select your network and click on Connect.

7) You will be prompted for a password. This is actually your WPA2-PSK Encryption Key. Enter your key.

8) Select Advanced Setting

9) Select Logout and click OK, This apparently will save your settings.

10) Reboot your computer which will also cycle power on the WL330GE.

That is all there is to it, You should now be able to connect to the internet using the WL330GE.』

『As netbooks have more or less standard hardware under the hood, netbooks can really only be distinguished by the parts that you the user interact with, namely, the screen, keyboard, and touchpad. I don't really have any complaints about the former and the latter. The screen has good contrast, but perhaps could be a little brighter. And, of course, it's matte, which is probably what drew you to this netbook in the first place (if you're anything like me). The touchpad is fine, no complaints.

Where the unit goes wrong is the keyboard. It is spongy. I very much dislike spongy, loud keyboards, but that is precisely what the 1001p has. Is it enough for me to put it on Ebay? No, but I am tempted to remove the case and see if I can add some reinforcements to make the tray more stable.

Cosmetically, it's basically what you expect. Looks decent, the seashell design is aesthetically pleasing, the pattern isn't garish. My only complaint on this end is the glossy bezel. I have no idea why it was necessary to put a fingerprint and dust magnet on an otherwise all matte netbook. But this is a quibble. The keyboard is the main fault.』

Close to a month ago I ordered a Eee Pe 1005HA-Pu (the more expensive one with more bells and whistles: longer battery life, bluetooth etc) with high expectations. After two days the adapter plug would make a high pitched static noise when I plugged into the computer and it wouldn't go away. I returned it. Its been my experience in the past that healthy computers SHOULD NOT be making weird noises. It turns out that Asus has a pretty horrible rap sheet when it comes to the adapters it uses for its Eee PCs. Go look at the 1005 HA reviews on amazon and look at the "one star" reviews. They are mostly about DOA units or power cords that break too easily or just plain don't work. I returned it for a full refund. My theory is that most people don't write reviews if they return there computer for a refund, meaning that while there are "only" eighty or so one star reviews, there are untold amounts of disappointed and frustrated suckers like myself out there that were too pissed and fed up to make time to write a negative review.

Fool me twice...

Not having time to do more research and wanting to give Asus a second chance (this I did BEFORE I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE PREVALENCE OF POWER CORD ISSUES) My unit, the one this page is for Eee Pc 1001P White, arrived just one time. I opened up that package and low and behold the SD CARD READER DID NOT WORK. The dummy, place holder, card was sticking out of the jack. I tried to get it to stay in but after booting up the comp, I tried a real SD Card and it would only read the card if I physically held it in place the whole time I was access files. Needless to say this was totally unacceptable and I am now in the process of a SECOND RETURN FOR REFUND!!!

My advice, Don't buy an Eee. There are lots of advice out there, and having learned the hard way I've decided to maybe spend a little bit more and get a SAMSUNG, DELL, HP, or something else that has a better reputation for customer service and overall build quality.

Also the Matte screen is definitely not as high quality as the shiny one. It really did look pretty crappy in comparison.

『The ASUS 1001P (white) is truly gorgeous. It just looks and feels impeccably detailed and doesn't feel flimsy. I'll lay out a quick pro/con first before updating it later with more details/observations. Keep in mind, I've only had this netbook to play with for a few hours, yet it expels me to write a review, since there's none for this particular model.

Pros
______________________________________
+ Battery life! I doubt any other model offers an 11 hour battery life at this price point ($299). If you only surf the net, write reports, or do simple tasks, on a slightly dimmer backlight, you can well get up to 10.5hrs. However, other intensive tasks with a brighter view can cut the battery life in half (~6 hours), which is still good.

+ Keyboard - I like the feel of it, and it doesn't feel as cramped. I have slightly smaller than average hands, but it works well. I prefer non-chiclet style, as this netbook is.

+Trackpad- I'm glad this one didn't come with bumpy surface. I tried it at a local BB, and didn't really like the feel of it. I also don't mind the single bar layout for the left and right clicks.

+LCD- This one comes with the matte LCD style. I thought it would be less sharper or poorer viewing angles, but it seems sharp enough for me.

+Chassis- I love the latticework/non-glossy look. Doesn't attract any fingerprints and it doesn't look plasticy.

- Battery Charger - I wasn't going to order ASUS unless I was sure that the problem was fixed, but I decided to just gamble. Unfortunately, I got the worst brand. There seems to be 3 different types of chargers. One from Enertronix (high failure rate due to a overheating problem that shuts off the charger and making it unusable), one from delta (the best one- doesn't seem to have any failure rates)- and one from PI Electronics (not sure about this one). It works for now, but many users have reported it comes DOA or fails within 1-3 months. * More about this down below*

- No N-wireless while the Acer alternative with the same price point has this option

- Windows 7 Starter. Sucks. Amazon needs to fix this; The technical details say that it comes with Win7, but the Specifications says Win XP Home.

***More about the battery charger. As I've mentioned, I got the crappy one. It's specific model is Enertronix #EXA0901XH. If ASUS readily replaced this, it wouldn't be much of a concern. But, users in various forums have reported that ASUS's crappy customer service and lack of, as well as weeks or months of backordered chargers prevented them from getting a new one. In addition, ASUS doesn't pay for shipping back the failed battery charger. However, if you get lucky and get any of the other two charger models, there seems to be no problem.

However, it seems that most people found a temporary solution. I'll try to relay the knowledge I've gained about these solutions. First, it seems that the faulty charger lies within an overheating problem and a mechanism for turning the charger off (but not back on). So you can alleviate this problem by temporarily allowing your charger to cool down after each use and if that doesn't work, putting it in the refrigerator for ~10-20 minutes. Other users have also mentioned that the charger will fail quicker, if multiple input locations are used. So if you keep plugging in and out the charger at different outlets, it often fails.

Despite the problem with the charger, the netbook itself is great, and even with its shortcomings, I decided to take a plunge. Whether it turns out to be a problem or not, time will tell.

『While I've never been a big fan of touchpads and related buttons to replace a mouse when I've used laptops in the past, I found the touchpad on the ASUS Eee PC Seashell pretty easy to use and considered going without a mouse. However, after buying the mouse, I highly recommend it to others. It makes the Seashell materially easy to navigate. The mouse is also very small, so it's easy to cart around with the Seashell. So well worth the few extra dollars.』

『I mainly got this mouse to match my ASUS Eee 1005HA netbook, but now wish I would have gone with a wireless mouse.

I am currently going to school, and when I take out the AC adapter, my headphones, and this mouse, it is all one tangled mess!

Even with the relatively short cord (in all, the whole thing is about 35" from end to end), between the three things mentioned about, it still all turned into a big tangled mess.

I think a wireless mouse would at least eliminate some of the tangle.

Also, $17 is a bit much for a simple corded USB mouse I think, but it is quite responsive, but then again, with a 10" screen, it doesn't take much movement to move across the entire screen.
Also, this mouse is pretty low profile (about 1" tall), and is only 3" long, and 2" wide, in case anyone has any problems with low profile mice.
