Steps: -Disabled on-board audio -Install Card -Install driver from Asus support website ver 1775 -Set Windows default audio device to speaker -Set xonar control panel to HDMI, 8-channels, 7.1 speakers -Upgrade Totalmedia Theather 3 from ver 120 to ver 160 -Set HDMI-Through in TMT and wholla Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master
The toughest part is to figure out is how to play non Bluray media on other program (MCE, mkv, mp3, etc) and still have my AVR bitstream the normal (non HD) DD and DTS codec. I was able to do this by switching the default device in windows from speaker to spdif.
There's no clear instructions that comes with the card so you have to be somewhat computer/audio/video savvy. But you can always visit a few forums out on the net to get help/instructions to setup the xonar.
Overall I'm 100% satisfied to be able to play HD sounds again from my computer!』
(Finally the little blue light goes on) 『Don't be fooled by all the scary reviews, this is actually pretty easy to setup in windows 7.
I already had a copy of TMT3.
I installed the card, hooked up the wires and then spend AN HOUR scratching my head wondering why I didn't have sound. Turns out in the Xonar tool you have to click the HDMI picture on the left. I had no idea that was even button. After clicking that sound came through and worked flawlessly.
In the sound control panel setup SPDIF passthrough as your default audio device.
In TMT set HDMI passthrough as your audio.
This makes all the HD sounds work in TMT and all the normal DTS, DD sounds work on normal DVDs and hd programming.
My Setup:
740g motherboard gigabyte ati radeon hd 4350 Sony XBR4 52" lcd Denon Receiver ATI Cablecard receiver
No handshaking issues, no problems with the cablecard. I'm a happy customer.』
(getting it to work= hell. SQ Excellent) 『One needs to have mastered high tech skills and beyond to get this working under Windows 7. I had to reformat my drives, reinstall windows and even get a new video card, because user manual lists higher requirements than I actually found one needs to have. Plus, searching and applying patches are a headache but totally necessary to get the card working. Find these patches on avforums. Hope ASUS rolls out better soft or drivers and updated total media player to actually let users enjoy the great sound it outputs, not make them fiddle with the complicated compatibility issues.』
(HD Audio) 『Does what it is supposed to do. My receiver lights up with Dolby TrueHD, and DTS Master. Sounds great. The software which comes with it(Arcsoft TMT ASUS version)is a little bit limited, and seems to be slow with updates to support the new Blu-Ray titles that come out. It is a lot cheaper than the more expensive Xonar HDAV card.』
(True HD sound finally.) 『After reading many reviews of the prior release of this card, I was a little hesitant to take the plunge into buying this product, but I'm glad I did. I have a Windows 7 Media Center set-up that this card runs smoothly on with no problems for full Blu-ray audio. The set-up was easy and finally being able to enjoy DTS Master and Dolby True HD are certainly worth the price.』 『Without the Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 Slim 7.1 LP PCI Sound Card, Blu-ray audio DOWNGRADE to DVD quality on PC! While I've only been using it for about a month, the speed increase (read and write) of the drive was immediately noticeable. There are no more stutters, pauses, nothing -- it's smooth as silk. Bootup time with Ubuntu 9.10 on this drive is 26 seconds, with log-in and functionality at 35 seconds. In a word, awesome. 』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Not Recomeneded: Waste of my time and ASUS's time) 『Seems likw ASUS had a nice product, however their sales department is terrible and technical support is mixed depending on who you talk to. For a $175 card I would expect to receieve the correct drivers and the card to run effectively with minimum issues. This was not the case with this card. One tech support person hung up on me for no reason. Bottom line this card is not worth $175 and luckily Amazon let me return the card.
I was looking for a sound Card that could support output to two different zones. Two zones would allow me to connect to multiple receivers so I can play music in multiple rooms in my house while playing movies on my home theater system. I called ASUS and asked if they could recomend a sound card that could support two zones. Sales insisted this was the card for me. After recieving the card I spent two days playing with it only to finally determine that it is not capable of supporting two zones. ASUS tech support said 2 zones is impossible and they did not understand why sales would give sa false impression of the card capability.
As far as installation goes this was a nightmare. I specified Windows 7 as an operating system. The card came with Windows Vista drivers. So after playing with it for several hours I finally called tech support only to be informed the wrong drivers were provided with the installation disk. I spent another hour with tech support finding the correct drivers to get the card working. After the drivers were installed I could not get the card to work and called tech support again. The tech support guy insisted this was a motherboard issue and hung up on me. It's funny because my motherboard is manufactured by ASUS. After calling back again they told me i needed an update to my chipset to get this to work. Still no sound...... It turned out the adapter they provided for SPDIF connection to optical cable does not work. When I finally got sound I tried configuring for two zones. Called tech support again only to be informed the card was not designed for two zones.
Some tech support guys were excellent and helped a great deal.... Others did not care to resolve issues and one hung up..... Depends on who you get.....

(Great input section too) 『I bought this card after first considering the another brand for a similar price. I chose the Essence STX mainly on the strength of the quality of the Line-In components. All of the reviews of this card I have seen are focused on playback performance and, by inference, the DAC section of the card, which is excellent. Since I do a lot of 2-channel recording, mainly vinyl conversion and other analog sources, I wanted a card with top notch analog/digital converters. This card fits the bill. The sound quality on the recordings is even better than I expected--great depth, clarity, dynamics and very quiet. Note: I do not record live with this card.
If you are looking for a sound card to mate with either a good pair of headphones, or a high-end stereo system, this one is just the ticket. Or if you want to transfer your lp collection to digital format and you have a good front end setup, this is a great tool for the job. You can also use the wave input to record material streamed off the internet.』
(Audiophile sound card) 『I bought this sound card to drive my 2ch stereo system via the RCA connectors. I'm very pleased with the sound. Setup was done in 3 minutes or so and there was nothing tricky about it at all. It's got a bit of "audio jewelry" to make it look nice which some people are into, but I could care less. The sound is on par with what I would expect from a card of this price range. The SNR is the best I've seen from any other sound card (asus or otherwise). Not that SNR is the holy grail of quality measurements but it's clear the designers worked hard to make a very clean sounding device. I use my computer as my main source now (CD's, BluRay, Flac, MP3 all rolled into one!) and having a nice sound card is essential if you want good quality sound from your PC.
One note, and it's not a "con" but something to consider. It's *just* a sound card. Unless you're using some very high quality output devices (amp, speakers and/or headphones) you should probably spend your money on speakers/amp before you throw money down on a sound card because it will offer the least improvement for your dollar. If you've already got speakers/headphones and an amp that you're very happy with, this sound card will make a noticeable improvement in your system.』
(The best soundcard I've ever purchased) 『I bought this card and paired it with the AKG K702 headphones, with my existing Heed CanAmp headphone amplifier&M-Audio AV40 monitor speakers. With my setup, I dont' hear any electrical noise, unlike my previous soundcard. The music is crystal clear! 』
(asus xonar essence stx) 『this sound card is amazing, especially if u have a pair of audiophile headphones. it's a little pricey, but if u love music, u will love this sound card for sure.

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Yup, its works on Windows 7) 『Works great, very easy to install. I have Windows 7 (64 bit), so I needed to install the Vista 64 divers (The driver/utility disc that came with the card). Please read the manual before installing, because it has the words "need to connect the power for card to work" on the second page...of course I didn't read the manual when I made my first attempt to install the card...so I learn about that later after reading the manual.』
(Careful in Windows 7) 『It works great until I upgrade my system to Windows 7.
After installing the driver from ASUS for win7 64-bit, the system act weird that lots of applications cannot open unless run as administrator, and each run need the verify the UAC popup. This will not go away even turning down the UAC.
The only solution to this is to install its vista driver instead. ASUS's driver team obviously fail in this product's driver development.』
(Great Sound Card) 『A Great Sound at a great price. Better than any X-FI both in price and performance. The downside is that you do not have DTS, but for average users talking about over $ 300 is too expensive. compared with the integrated audio because I run out of words from heaven to earth change. I recommend the Xonar DX and if you want to give more money, go for the luxury D2X.』
(Sounds great and easy installation Vista 64-bit) 『I purchased the PCIe version. I was prepared for a more difficult installation but it was smooth. First try on software and hardware installations. I did go to the Asus website and downloaded the latest software. I did not try the enclosed CD - which was just one version earlier. I haven't really had any trouble with Vista but I find that it helps to verify what works with Vista 64 and install the latest version. And this card sounds wonderful. I was just hoping to get rid of the buzz created by my on-board audio card (Gateway FX4710). I did not expect to hear such a difference. My low-priced Cambridge Soundworks speakers really came alive. I have a spare pair of Proac Tablette speakers. I think I will give those a try. And yeah, the static is gone too.
I did have one small Vista-related glitch. [...] On re-boot and startup I would get messages asking if it is OK to run HsMgr.exe and HsMgr64.exe files. The solution is to go into the folder where you unzip the file you download (vista\SoftwareDriver\DLL) and unblock those two files (in file explorer right click). I had to uninstall the software and then reinstall it after I unblocked the files.』
(Well worth the money.) 『I recently looked at the Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty, but I went along and purchased this and all I can say is that this card works great. All I really wanted was to have 5.1 surround sound from my games, and with my digital output connection I would only get 2 channel. With this card, it really delivers. Dolby Digital Live is really great because now I can play games and watch movies in 5.1 surround sound and it sounds wonderful.
One con I find a little annoying is that when you use it through digital out the sound does not always start up right away. Sometimes it takes about a second or two just for the sound to start playing in the speakers. Other than this minor flaw, this card is a great buy.』 『The ASUS Xonar DX audio card is impeccably designed for fine-tuned audio quality with 116dB SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) in comparison to most motherboard onboard audio with only 85dB SNR. It is equipped with innovative technologies like Dolby Home Theater Technologies and DS3D GX to provide crisp and clear audio quality and rich gaming sound effects. The Xonar DX dramatically reduces the amount of background noise, producing as little as 1/32 (-105dB) of the total harmonics distortion versus traditional motherboard audio (-75dB). By adopting the CirrusLogics CS4398 audio DAC (120dB SNR&117dB THD+N) that is often used in Hi-Fi devices, the Xonar DX provides at least 30% better quality sounds than the average onboard audio. With the new audio architecture in Vista, users will sometimes be unable to achieve multi-channel sounds, DirectSound; and EAX 5.0 sound effects in EAX 5.0 Titled PC games. VocalFX is an innovative voice processing technology for users' voices to enter into the realistic gaming landscape (VoiceEX), or to emulate the background scenes in online chats (ChatEX). Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Great for the money, but some confusing things...) 『This is one of the oddest experiences I've had.
My specs: Windows XP/MCE, Athlon Quad-core, 4Gb RAM (installed), ASUS motherboard. Card is driving a Sony 40" Bravia LCD through VGA (DB15) and 20" HP 2009m monitor, both at 1600/900 60Hz. (Drives both monitors simultaneously with no problem. I don't plan to use the HDMI feature: I don't know how my solution would affect it.)
I just received this card, and installed it, and it is working very well. But... I didn't get this exact card. I got the right box, but the card was an ATI Radeon with DVI, VGA (DB15) and HDMI, not S-Video (mini-DIN). And the box says 512MB, but the card reports 1024MB. So far, I'm happy, and the extra memory is certainly no cause for complaint: the HDMI instead of the mini-DIN might be a problem for some.
The card is well made, and installed easily. But... it took over my audio functions (because of the HDMI, I assume) and I had no sound until I went into bios setup and switched my on-board sound to "enabled" from "auto", thereby forcing the computer to recognize the on-board soundcard. Not a big deal for me, but it would be a problem for a lot of people.)
Now, the software: I downloaded the latest drivers from ASUS, and the install failed. (The card defaults to VGA, so I wasn't dead in the water, just inconvenienced.) I forced the install of the drivers on the included CD (they're unsigned) and then the newer softward loaded. Apparently, it's an upgrade. Whatever... but... when you ask the software it loads as a controller (called "Catalyst Control Center") to find the latest drivers (a very good feature) it takes you to AMD/ATI's website, and you download much later drivers from them, and get a much better control interface, and you're really in business. The Catalyst... whatever... adds a lot of functionality for the advanced user (more advanced than me) and restores to XP/MCE some lost features, like monitor cloning. (If you don't know what that is, you don't need it.)
This whole process should be a lot better. It's do-able, but I'm a fairly advanced user, and it was time-consuming and far too confusing. Too many suppliers/manufacturers/software developers with too little co-ordination between them.
However... it is a great card at an amazingly low price (though I notice it has gone up a little). It's worth a try, but by all means, check the contents of the box carefully before you install it. Good luck.』
(Solid HTPC card) 『I purchased the ASUS EAH4350 (non-low profile) version of this, which is essentially the same card, except mine comes with a HDMI port. This is an economical choice for a video card for motherboards like mine that do not come with integrated graphics. The EAH4350 handled Blueray/HD playback beautifully and provided audio-out through HDMI as well, making this a solid HTPC card. As it's fanless, this is absolutely silent, another great feature for HTPC or just anyone looking to reduce the noise on their rigs. Don't expect it to run demanding games Crysis. Nevertheless, I found gaming on this card on Left4Dead and Team Fortress 2 totally acceptable while using lower resolutions. It has similar or better in terms of performance compared to my Nvidia 7800GS which it replaced.』 『Asus Radeon HD 4350 Video Card If full-speed Blu-Ray playback and HDMI Audio 7.1 capabilities are your thing, then the Asus Radeon HD 4350 is your card. Offering 8GB of memory bandwidth paired with DDR2 memory and 80 stream processors, this low-profile card fits in almost any case or motherboard designed to have a PCI Express video card in it. Have great flexibility when connecting to PC monitors or home theaters for maximum enjoyment of full HD 1080p content. And thanks to plug-and-play ATI CrossFireX upgradeability, it is easy to turbo-charge your 3D performance.』

This is not a pc for hd video editing, but it is a great pc for use on the web, creating word documents etc. The pc has a good keyboard and a good mouse, neither is wireless. All you need is a monitor. I bought an Acer ~ 15 inch display (Acer X163Wb - LCD display - TFT - 15.6" - widescreen - 1366 x 768 black) for less than $100 at Walmart. Attached the pc to the display and now have a small pc for the kitchen. The pc comes with wireless N with small antena that attaches to the pc. (Good replacement for HTPC) 『I purchased this to use as a HTPC. I Installed Windows Media Center (2005 - not Vista) and it installed without any problems. I have read about how the PC slows down when any anti-virus is installed -but, so far I have tried 2 - Norton Internet Security and Microsoft Security Essentials - have NOT noticed any performance degradation. For playing media files - I have K-lite codecs installed and all the movies/music plays nicely without any buffering. I have not tried 1080p video yet - but, 720p videos plays nicely without hogging the CPU. So far it has 'hung' few times - but that might be problems with Windows MCE rather than the h/w. The only time I see it a bit sluggish is - when it tries to show the thumbnails of the videos and musics files/folders - takes a while to show all the thumbnails if there are a lot of files. The 5.1 channel audio also plays nice in my Onkyo Receiver. Overall - happy with the PC and can't beat the price.』
