Winding the music box is accomplished by sliding the "matchbox" open to the left (gently and read the instructions) and turning the key. The motion and music are activated by sliding open the "matchbox" to the right. When open, the song plays (an abbreviated version) as the motion turns the scene. The figures are plastic, but are fairly detailed and look very nice.
The body of the "matchbox" case is also mostly plastic so I am not sure how durable it will be in the long run, but with gentle use it should hold up well.
Overall a good value and a nice addition to our collection. Recommended!』

I was the fourth owner after his rescue and was his "last chance". I had never dealt with such an aggressive animal. Although, I never imagined it would come to me being unable to help him and putting him down-that is what it was coming to after professional dog training and obedience training (done one-on-one and in groups). A family member recommended looking into "The Dog Whisperer". Cesar Millan saved my dog. It has been over two years and my life and my pointer's is better than I could have ever imagained. Through consistency and really following everything he recommends, changing any dog behavior is possible. I read a review that said Cesar's way was "dangerous" when dealing with aggressive dogs. I have to entirely disagree. When I freed myself from my own fearful feelings about what my pointer was going to do next and focused on how I could calmly and confidently control the situation-EVERYTHING changed. A stranger could roll my pointer on his back, stick their fingers in his mouth, or even be very excited around him and his reaction is calm-always looking at me. He is happy, fulfilled and calm knowing that I control the environment. (My family and I are still amazed!)』
(Great tips, great techniques, sanity saver!) 『I was not sold on some of the techniques, but I watched the show and rented a few of his dvd's after being super frustrated with our Siberian Husky. He's a wonderful dog, but very powerful and I didn't particularly enjoy being pushed and jumped on or when he did this to guest or knocked down children, walking him was not enjoyable, it was basically our dog dragging us. Often half way across the street. Once throwing my back out. I had enough. I pleaded with my husband to try something new. Basically our dog didn't respond to hardly any commands. We tried regular obedience training. We finally started to use some of his techniques and with consistency, we are so much less stressed and our home is more peaceful! We have taught him to stay and sit and to reward him when he is calm etc. He no longer rushes people, which is phenomenal to us. Even our kids love watching his shows, they understand why we are responding or not responding to our dog. I don't agree that Cesar is aggressive, rather he uses his energy and specific touch techniques, I think some people are oversensitive to correcting any behavior issues. Everyone needs to feel safe and secure, with specific boundaries and expectations, whether it be kids, people or pets. I think it helps keep us all balanced :-) Caesar shows immense patience and compassion. Hope this helps someone else.』

We soon realized that she was abused and was a biter. (No wonder the other family with 3 kids gave her up!) Using Cesar's techniques, she quickly realized her place in the pack and not only stopped biting, but became extremely lovable! So to claim that this film doesn't depict the gospel Jesus requires a great big DUH. This is a film about the possibilities Jesus may have faced during his life as a human being. The fact that most of the speaking roles are played by Americans makes it very easy to imagine one's self in this time, place and situation. Sure the main objection is Christ's fantasy about marriage and living a long life. But this is depicted as nothing but a dream sequence. Willem Dafoe and Harvey Keitel give Jesus and Judas a very interesting relationship. Peter Gabriel's music is a big plus sounding very appropriate to the location. David Bowie has only a brief scene as Pilate but is quite effective. This film isn't as emotionally gripping as recent films based on the gospels. But this film matters because its' original story lines provoke thoughts that are beyond the scope of the four gospel stories. It is only blasphemy if you take a fantasy and call it the truth.』
(Weak Performance by Dafoe Mars Story) 『I read "The Last Temptation of Christ" as a book and thought it was great - very thought-provoking novel on an alternate story of the life of Jesus. Unfortunately, Martin Scorsese's adaptation just isn't up to the level of the book. His greatest mistake was in casting Willem Dafoe in the lead role (Christ). Clearly, Dafoe was in way over his head. His acting is so bland and weak, there isn't much to admire in his performance of perhaps the most famous person in the history of the world. Supposedly, Scorsese first offered the role of Christ to Robert DeNiro, who turned it down. Now, this movie with DeNiro as Christ would have been worth watching.』
(What's all the debate about?) 『It shouldn't matter at all how "Jesus" is portrayed in any film, since he never actually existed in the first place. There is no historical evidence! He's as fictitious as Mickey Mouse; thus he is open to any and all interpretations. This film is great! A refreshing change from typical "Jesus" movies...』
(Scorsese Played With An Inferno...and Got Burned) 『In 1968, the novel was released and condemned by the Catholic Church because of its over-humanization of Christ. Then Martin Scorsese decides to take the historical Jesus and this "novel" and create a "Jesus" that not only has no comparison to the historical Jesus that we know, but turns Jesus into a mockery. He took a person known as the Son of God in Christianity and made Him into a fool. And this is what he calls "the Christ." Martin Scorsese played with fire indeed, as the Siskel and Ebert documentary stated, and indeed got burned. I have become far more open-minded than I used to be in regards to alternative views of the Christ, but this pushed me too far.
William Dafoe as "Jesus" made Jesus appear indecisive, whiny, argumentative, and also builds on the non-verified assertion that Jesus had a relationship with Mary of Magdelene. Scorsese, in a most burning dip into fire, even inserts a scene in which "Jesus" (I can barely make myself type this) has SEX with Mary Magdelene! I had a reaction of mixed horror, disgust, and I swear my heart almost stopped at one point. I don't believe I could digest this scene even if I were drunk!
In the end, Martin Scorsese blasphemes the single greatest figure in Christianity, shows blatant disrespect for religion in general, and appears to have no regard for even the PRETENSE of decency. I do not plan to see ANY MORE MOVIES directed by him. Scorsese took Jesus, made Him into someone He was not; someone whom I've never experienced, and this is what he calls "The Last Temptation of Christ." Rather, it should have been called "The Last BLASPHEMY of Christ."』
(outstanding, creative and artistic, to say the least) 『The Last Temptation of Christ brings to film a fictionalized story about Christ in a book by Nikos Kazantzakis. Specifically, in this film we see what might have happened if Jesus had been forced to struggle between his desires to be a family man with a home versus being Jesus the Messiah who dies for people's sins and who represents so much to those of the Christian faith. The story is beautifully told--not that it's always easy to take; there are numerous scenes in this film that disqualify it from "family" viewing--and Willem Dafoe's acting performance as Jesus is as good as it gets. The cinematography is excellent and everyone, actors included, worked so hard to make sure that the choreography was just right for just the right effect. The plot moves along at a very good pace; and although it's almost three hours long not including the bonus features you shouldn't feel bored. On the other hand, however, if you are uncomfortable with the idea that Jesus might have had these human temptations in his life, you shouldn't get this one because that's Scorsese's message.
Of course, we see many highlights of the story of Christ including people beginning to see him as the Messiah as he speaks, heals the sick, performs miracles, becomes furious when he discovers that people are doing business in the temple, partakes in the last supper when he knows he's going to be betrayed and his ultimate death on the cross. However, when Scorsese takes Nikos Kazantzakis's novel and essentially breathes life into it on film the fictionalized story is every bit as unforgettable. Dafoe deserves a millions stars for the giving one of the best performances I've ever seen on film; he portrays Jesus to perfection as he struggles with a desire to be a family man with a home versus a desire to shun romance with women and help the poor, preach the power of love and truly be the Messiah. Unfortunately, however, the important role of Judas was given to Harvey Keitel who manages brilliantly to rattle off many of his lines with a noticeable Brooklyn accent. Ouch! Barbara Hershey is outstanding as Mary Magdalene and Harry Dean Stanton is equally wonderful playing the roles of both Saul and Paul (with the role of Paul coming later in the film). Look also for a good performance by David Bowie as Pontius Pilate; and Juliette Caton does a flawless job as a guardian angel for Jesus even if she just might throw you a plot twist or two creating quite an effect at the very end of the film.
I'd love to tell you more but I'd also hate to ruin it for you; this is one outstanding film and the fact that it is part of The Criterion Collection proves it's quite noteworthy. Moreover, others have added spoilers already so if I add too much more you'd be getting the same information several other reviewers already gave you. What I can do, however, is tell you about the bonus features on the DVD. You get some footage Martin Scorsese personally filmed when they were on location in Morocco although it's not always in perfect focus; an optional running commentary (from 1997) with Martin Scorsese, Willem Dafoe and Paul Schrader; a small print gallery called "Scorsese's Visual Research;" a featurette on costume designs; production and publicity stills and more! These are marvelous extras.
The Last Temptation of Christ is an excellent film adaptation of a fictionalized story about Christ in a book by Nikos Kazantzakis. Scorsese and his cast and crew did a magnificent job with this project; my only relatively minor disappointment was Harvey Keitel in the role of Judas--he said some of his lines with a Brooklyn accent which sounded ridiculous. I highly recommend this film.』 『It isn't difficult to imagine why this 1988 retelling of the Crucifixion story was picketed vociferously upon release--this Jesus bears little resemblance to the classical Christ, who was not, upon careful review of the Gospels, ever reported to have had sex with Barbara Hershey. Heavily informed by Gnostic reinterpretations of the Passion,The Last Temptation of Christ(based rather strictly on Nikos Kazantzakis's novel of the same name) is surely worth seeing for the controversy and blasphemous content alone, but it's difficult to find in skittish chain video stores. But the "last temptation" of the title is nothing overtly naughty--rather, it's the seduction of the commonplace; the desire to forgo following a "calling" in exchange for domestic security. Willem Dafoe interprets Jesus as spacy, indecisive, and none too charismatic (though maybe that's just Dafoe himself), but his Sermon on the Mount is radiant with visionary fire; a bit less successful is method actor Harvey Keitel, who gives the internally conflicted Judas a noticeable Brooklyn accent, and doesn't bring much imagination to a role that demands a revisionist's approach. Despite director Martin Scorsese's penchant for stupid camera tricks, much of the desert footage is simply breathtaking, even on small screen. Unfortunately, the plastic on the VHS tape was broken. It fell apart as soon as I removed the VHS from it's cardboard packaging. Bottom line: seller got the item to me, but it's broken. I still don't have the movie to watch. Not happy』
(A GREAT MATCH-UP OF ACTORS/RESSES TO ROLES) 『This movies' strongest point is that the actors and actresses who portray the characters are so believeable in their roles. Scott Glenn does a masterful job as the bull-rider H.D., Ben Johnson couldn't be better as the aging dad who is beginning to fail, and is so fearful of spending his final days in an "old folks' home".
You empathize with H.D. as he struggles to keep his dad out of the nursing home, and you cheer for him as he painstakingly trains to ride the bull that if ridden would provide enough prize money to enable H.D. to realize his goal. The other actors and actresses who are intertwined in this movie are also masterful in their roles, including a true-to-life performance by the legendary Mickey Rooney.
To put it in plain, everyday terms, this is just a charming, feel-good movie........』

I finally opened MY copy last night to watch it for the first time (it was "factory sealed," mind you) and the DVD was totally screwed up: The lighting kept changing from bright to dark and in several spots the DVD just went totally black! What a waste of money! Wish I hadn't kept both copies now...That's a wasted $25 down our already anemic economic drain...I'm thinking twice about buying DVD's from Amazon again.』
("Funny and Well-Acted Film") 『"Postcards From The Edge" was written by Carrie Fisher, who based the screenplay on her autobiography. That autobiography was in turn loosely based on her personal life growing up in the Hollywood limelight as the daughter of a famous actress, Debbie Reynolds. When it came time to cast the film Debbie expressed an interest in being cast as the mother, but director Mike Nichols ("The Birdcage" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?") decided on Shirley MacLaine. Meryl Streep was cast as the daughter after deciding to star in some light-weight films in the late eighties, most notably "She-Devil". The chemistry between MacLaine and Streep is excellent and Nichols direction is superb. It is, however, Fisher's screenplay that makes the film work and we get a chance to see the struggle between a mother and daughter in forming a real relationship while trying to survive in the movie industry. Drug addiction, vanity, and actresses getting old are some of the issues the film tackles. Dennis Quaid and Gene Hackman have supporting roles and the film became the #1 movie in the country upon its release in 1990. "Postcards From The Edge" garnered Streep an Oscar nod as Best Actress and the title song "I'm Checkin' Out" was nominated for Best Song. That song was performed at the 1991 Academy Awards by country music superstar Reba McEntire who had recently lost her entire band in a planecrash. The DVD comes with both full and widescreen presentations, trailers, audio commentary by Fisher, and more.』
(Mother love) 『I had seen this movie in the theater and just had to finally own it. It truly is a feel good movie. And Shirley MacLaine with Meryl Streep is a win win situation. As in other MacLaine movies she is sassy as ever just as in real life and that is one reason I love her movies. And Meryl Streep is so versatile, and still going strong, the both of them. Proof you can get acting jobs as a woman after 40, you just have to be timeless and those 2 are up with there with the best timeless actresses. Glad for their continued successes.』

Watching two of the finest actresses in cinema ( Streep, and MacLaine ) play off from one another is quite a treat. They really brought out some of the poignancy of the characters from Carrie Fisher's memorable, autuobiographical, book, while still managing to be flat-out hilarious. It's a chick-flick, perhaps, but a fun one, and well worth the price of admission.』 『As its title might suggest, this movie based on Carrie Fisher's Hollywood struggle works better as a snapshot than as a complete film. Meryl Streep plays Suzanne Vale, a successful actress who is lost in her addictions. Her episodes are never as bombastic asClean and Soberor other antidrug movies of the 1990s, however. Vale's a more lovable person, and as with all lovable people in Hollywood, other Hollywood people care for her: an understanding director (Gene Hackman), a philandering boyfriend (Dennis Quaid), and a bemused doctor (Richard Dreyfuss). But if you are going to talk about Fisher, you are going to mention her mom, Debbie Reynolds. And here Vale's mom is the die-hard Doris Mann, played with appropriate virtuosity by Shirley MacLaine. You nearly forgive Vale's troubles for having to live under a hurricane like Mann (who goes into her nightclub act at the drop of a hat). (McQueen&Peckingpah create chaos and a crime classic) 『After the failure of "Junior Bonner", a good film by the way, Steve McQueen wanted to reunite with director Sam Peckingpah with an action movie--McQueen's forte. And did they suceed in spades!! Based on a book by noir novelist Jim Thompson, "The Getaway" is an action packed crime thriller full of double crosses and shoot outs that will take your breath away. And McQueen and future wife Ali McGraw create combustion every time they're in a scene. In fact any film that makes Ali McGraw, who is usually pretty wooden, look good must have something going for it--and in this case, it's McQueen. She would later re-unite with Peckingpah for a lesser film, "Convoy" with Kris Kristopherson and Ernest Borgnine but this one is her best effort yet. Also it looks great in Hi-Def and in this case, the HD DVD version which I bought for over $5 is a bargain compared to the Blu-ray version. If you like action crime dramas, you can't go wrong with this one, perhaps McQueen's best, even better than "Bullit".』

(The Reason She's Never Been Kissed) 『I love Drew Barrymore, but there is a reason that she has Never Been Kissed, and it is because of her horrible acting. The Executive Producer should have fired her on the spot, but wait a minute. She WAS the executive producer. That explains a lot. This is the first film in Drew's producer resume, and her acting is OK in parts, but she only partially redeems herself, because when she is bad, she is very bad.
She is playing a copy editor at Chicago Sun Times who has been given a chance to be a reporter. Her assignment: go back to High School posing as a student and dig up a scandal. Her return to High School triggers all kinds of painful flash backs, because she was a major geek. They all called her Josie Grossie. As an uptight copy editor, always correcting everyone's grammar, she is OK. When she goes back to High School, she is really bad. The script was not her BFF, either:

David Arquette plays her brother. He was popular in High School, where he was a talented baseball player, but since he never made it to the Big Leagues, his High School years were the highlight of his life, and it was downhill fast from there. He goes back for another shot, and also to help her infiltrate the cool kids. Once Josie gets to drop the geek act, then she does much better. But still, that is not enough to save this movie from the terrible story. It just doesn't work, and it doesn't allow her to really get back at the guy who asked her to the prom only to drive by in the limo and egg her. That, or something similar, would have made the catharsis complete.
You'd think that after so many movies have been done in this whole High School genre, what works and what don't work would be obvious. Yet, the writers decided unwisely to reinvent the wheel, and that is why this vehicle never goes anywhere. They didn't plan to fail, they just failed to plan.
On the bright side, Molly Shannon as Anita, and John C. Reilly as Gus, were both funny, as usual. Shannon especially. Sean Whalen shows the makings of a good character actor, as Merkin, Josie's assistant. Leelee Sobieski as Aldys, a girl from the outcast math club, The Denominators, who befriends Josie early on, is someone to watch for. A couple of small parts were played by actors who went on to bigger and better things, so don't miss James Franco and Jessica Alba.
At the prom there are slow dances to "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" (Written by Johnny Marr and Steven Patrick Morrissey and performed by The Smiths) and "Don't Worry Baby" (Written by Brian Wilson and Roger Christian and performed by The Beach Boys). "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" was also in the prom scene in Pretty in Pink.
Bottom line, Never Been Kissed is a weak addition to the High School movie genre, but nevertheless you still might enjoy it if you like Drew Barrymore enough to put up with her less than stellar performance.

(One of my favorite later Drew Barrymore films) 『 To me, Drew Barrymore's best films are when she was a child star. Her films' "Firerstarter" and "Cat's Eye" remain some of my favorites although I loved most all films that came out in the early to mid eighties.
Drew was a bit too young to be part of the "brat pack" actors and actresses of the eighties (Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson, Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy, Andrew McCarthy, Molly Ringwald, Mathew Broderick, etc.) although Drew started in "Altered States" and "E.T.: The Extra-terrestrial" before any of those "brat pack" stars were ever filmed or even recognized.
But, what really makes this film stand out for me is the absolutely wonderful young actress Leelee Sobieski. Her role here as an aggressively self-defending unpopular nerd girl was such a great role for her. I really loved how she played her character here. In many cases, she really upstaged Drew Barrymore as a performance demanding attention. Even Jessica Alba (who had a mean role here) couldn't steal anyone's fire in this film.
I thought this film was fun. Perhaps some people didn't care for it because it does remain pretty innocent for entertainment. I know today's teens enjoy themes more representative of bad taste and offensiveness. 』

Like most women, I have been trying many different face creams over the years and have even been enrolled in a couple of those skin care clubs. I was getting tired of trying to make a decision from a bunch of infomercials and advertisements where everyone thinks their product is the latest break-through. I was getting to the point where nothing I tried made any long-lasting or continued improvement no matter how much I paid for it. Most seem to work at first but then I stop seeing a difference within the first couple of months. I decided to try Rejuvenex after reading about various products online. I was intrigued by the ingredients used and the science behind them. I have been using it for about three months now, and am really impressed with how much my skin has improved! While most products either over-hydrate and clog my pores or leave my skin dry and dull, this product seems to hydrate my skin beneath the surface so their is no greasy residue.
I was concerned at first because I read a review that claimed this product irritated their skin. I have very sensitive skin as well, but my skin seemed to adjust to the product within a couple of weeks without any major irritation. I was a little pink at first but that's normal for me and new anti-aging products. It was nothing anyone else could have noticed. There has been nothing but more improvements over the past few months. In fact, my skin seems to have less of it's normally reddish undertone than it had before I started using the product. I certainly did not expect that! It also got rid of the fine lines I was noticing around my eyes and mouth. That's the best part. I only have to use one product instead of some pricy kit.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is getting fed up trying to find the right product for their skin. If you give it a couple of months you should definately see a difference! I am very happy with how my skin looks now! This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review on a product. I hope this will encourage other women to give it a try. I'm certainly glad I did!』

(Wonderful Production) 『When I received this as a gift, I at first wanted to return it because I do not like "Focus On The Family" and it's politics. However, due to my love of audio books and radio dramas, I "popped in" the first CD and gave it a try.
SIDE NOTE: One of my other favorites is J. R. R. Tolkien's Hobbit on CD (The Hobbit: Radio Drama on CD, The Mind's Eye # ISBN-10: 156511552X # ISBN-13: 978-1565115521) If you like radio dramas... you'll love this 1970's production of "The Hobbit".
GETTING BACK TO THE FOCUS ON THE FAMILY'S: "CHRONICLES OF NARNIA"; I was amazed to find that this recording was of great quality both in clarity (no hissing or white noise), excellent acting by a British troupe, a beautiful full orchestral score (which gave me goosebumps at times), wonderful clear sound effects (made by a professional and quality Foley artists) and "flat-out" entertaining!
I also enjoyed the famous actors who narrated the stories who did an outstanding job with great inflection and drama to their voice (while describing the story and it's events).
Instead of giving this 5 stars, I gave this product 4 stars. This is because the packaging of the CD's and storage of them (including the artwork on them) is not good. The way the CD's are pulled from the card stock cover, can damage the CD's (I now have these CD's in a separate case). For all the quality crafting of the audio production, you would of thought Focus on the Family could of found some professional party to design a better package.
However, this is of little consequence to the overall wonderful production and extremely entertaining CD's!
Go ahead and treat yourself to some old fashioned radio drama fun!』

Indeed, the interjection of science into the real world has created a multiplicity of what Mr. Latour calls 'quasi-objects', or phenomena that are located in the midpoint between science and nature; examples of quasi-objects include global warming, genetic engineering, the AIDS epidemic, and so on. Mr. Latour believes that we are ill-equipped to address these problems inasmuch as the institutions built around Enlightenment ideals have failed to account for the nonseparation of social practices from nature.
In this light, Mr. Latour rejects the idea that humanity has ever really broken away from its premodern past. To begin with, Mr. Latour suggests that the premoderns' assignment of transcendence to inanimate objects is similar in kind to the transcendent powers assigned by moderns to sciences and ideologies. Mr. Latour goes on to contend that the modern experience is simply larger in scale than the premodern, with ever-more sophisticated but conflicting explanations about the meaning of the extended networks that bind our lived experiences undergoing constant flux. Mr. Latour states that 'morphism' better explains the nonmodern world we inhabit in which humans must continuously adapt themselves to changing sociological and natural conditions.
Mr. Latour argues that once we refute the idea that we have ever been modern, we can reclaim our sense of being ordinary and thereby express our solidarity with all peoples and the planet; at that point, we will be able to focus on the collective challenge of addressing the critical problems that confront us. Crucially, this task requires that our conception of politics enlarges; the discourse must encompass the multitude of human and non-human subjects or 'things' alike if we wish to solve the problems that the quasi-objects present to us. For example, Mr. Latour suggests that in the case of ozone depletion such a debate might be enjoined by representatives speaking on behalf of chemical companies, workers, the ozone hole itself, Antarctica, and so on.
Originally written in 1991, Mr. Latour's pathbreaking thought has proven to be highly influential, with many of his arguments in essence being echoed and enlarged by more and more similarly-minded progressive writers. To cite just a few: Robyn Eckersley's The Green State: Rethinking Democracy and Sovereignty articulates the juridical basis for the representation of non-human life forms in our democracy; Vandana Shiva's Earth Democracy: Justice, Sustainability, and Peace provides a moral argument for human rights and environmentally justice; and Steven Wise' Drawing the Line makes a compelling case for animal rights. Together, works such as these suggest that a new kind of Enlightenment may be forming: a philosophy that recognizes the future of humanity is dependent upon, and not estranged from, the other life forms that coexist with us on planet earth.

(Engaging discussion of our views of culture and nature) 『For those readers familiar with Science in Action, Bruno Latour may not at first strike one as the ideal candidate to sort out the most pressing philosophical issues about human cultures. But that is exactly what this slim, easy to follow volume does: it sorts them out. Latour posits that our "modern" society (and this is taken as Western and/or industrialized society) is based upon a series of paradoxes whereby both nature and society are "constructed" (by humans) and at the same time "transcendent." This contradiction enables us to, among other things, appropriate huge chunks of the natural into the social without giving it so much as a thought because the "modern constitution" of our thought effectively prevents it. Nature can both intervene in society (e.g. by being transformed into manufactured items) and remain distinct, pristinely "natural." Through a series of carefully argued comparisons and contrasts between the "modern consistution," the "non-modern constitution," and (of course) the "postmodern constitution" Latour offers a way for Western society to achieve a responsible relationship to nature and society through a reconsideration of the affects of, for example, the implementation of a new technology on both the natural and the social. The many graphic illustrations and charts serve to provide visual explanations for his argument. I never would have ventured into this text without them. Regardless of your background or ideological leanings, be prepared to be challenged by We Have Never Been Modern in two areas. First, Latour is not shy about employing specific terms where he deems necessary, and that is absolutely everywhere. Many of the neologisms I have found quite helpful, but the reader's attention must never waver when they are trotted out. Furthermore, you should be prepared to follow Latour wherever he may list, in particular into the history of the vacuum pump. The second major area of challenge is in the nature of his solution to the modern quandary, what he terms "The parliament of things." This arrangement of otherwise distinct and dispersed voices from and about the same "quasi-object" will require major compromises all around. It is hard enough to give a voice to indigenous populations, Latour wishes to enlist others (even scientists!) to speak on behalf of the trees. The price is hefty, but well worth the money, the wait and the effort of what, in the main, is an exhilirating read.』

I'm a long-time Role-playing game (RPG) fan, and the original Final Fantasy Tactics for Ps1 sparked my specific interest in Strategic RPGs. Unfortunately, this seems like a niche market. where choices and variety are few. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance was an exceptional strategy game for Gamecube. However, other Atlus-style strategy RPGs served only to disappoint me.
I'm only 8 hours into this game, but I am happy to say that Final Fantasy Tactics A2 seems to capture the essence of the original Final Fantasy Tactics, at least from a game-play perspective. The presentation and story both seem slightly more juvenile and cartoon-like than the original Tactics, but are probably consistent with the "Advanced" series. Besides, not every story needs to be as dark and foreboding as the Ps1 Final Fantasy Tactics. This seems to be a light-hearted romp, so just prepare yourself for that before buying.
I give this 4 stars because it doesn't strike me as an epic and ingratiating story, and while the game is engrossing, it isn't quite sucking me in as other games do - particularly excellent strategic RPGs. In summary, this would be an entertaining gift for a teen who likes trying RPGs, most Final Fantasy fans, or any micro-manager who owns a DS.』

The original Final Fantasy Tactics and it's subsequent PSP remake is probably my favorite game I have ever played. I come to Final Fantasy again and again looking for 2 things. Based on my first couple minutes, I had the impression that this was an attempt at making FF Tactics for kids. So here is where things get strange. The game-play/character progression is incredibly deep. 6-7 races, 50 classes, hundreds of abilities to learn. I can't imagine why they decided to marry a childish storyline with such a deep game. Very odd choice to me. I would recommend Fire Emblem ahead of this one if you have a DS. If you have a PSP, Final Fantasy Tactics and Jeanne D'arc are way better games.』

I spent hours on it&even kept playing afterwards in an attempt to finish all of the quests&completely beat the game. (However soon after I was grabbed by the desire to replay the 2nd Golden Sun game&try to get to the special level, which trumped any FF playing.)
In any case, I figured that it was a safe bet I'd probably like this game. I will admit it- I put it off for a good while because I was afraid that it'd be too close to the other game&I'd get bored by it. That fear hasn't showed yet, although I will admit that I'm not as enchanted with this version as I was with the Advance version.
Never fear though- there's still a lot of interesting things to do&see in this game. I like that the graphics are a bit better (although with an upgraded system I guess I should expect that)&I like that the battle laws are displayed on the top part of the screen where it can be easily seen&remembered, where the previous incarnation made you jump through hoops in order to look them back up again.
Fans of Tactics will love this game. Fans of FF will be more than likely to love it. People who aren't fan of turn based RPGs may not be as enchanted. Me? I'm a long time fan of turn based RPGs, so I'm in hog heaven with this game.』

(Not my favorite. :() 『"Hidden Relics" isn't a bad game; it's mostly a hidden object game (HOG), with Find the Differences, Find 10, etc. between levels ("chapters"). Since the game mostly involves spotting antiques, the Handbook is a VERY useful feature which offers a definition and picture of objects the player selects from the look-for list, and using the Handbook does NOT use up one of the allowed hints.
The game is suitable for the hearing impaired, and a (weak) magnifier is the first purchase players make with stars earned from successful completion of a minigame. Minigames include Hanoi Towers, Memory, and jigsaw puzzles. I found the other purchases less useful.
I wish a little more time had been taken with development of "Hidden Relics;" it has a cheap feel to me. I wasn't fond of the comic strip story, although the comic strips can be skipped. Numerous misspellings litter the entire game, including "pizza cuter" and "loose" instead of "lose."』

(Atmospheric and Great Fun) 『I loved this game. I enjoy puzzle/adventure games, and this one was just right. Too often a puzzle game is overly cryptic or too simplistic to be much fun, and usually the player ends up in a blind alley with no clue where to go. This game is open-ended enough to allow flexibility, but there's enough to find and enough going on in each area to keep it interesting even when you have to backtrack searching for a clue you missed.
In addition to that, the atmosphere is nice and creepy. The music and sound effects are great. Play it with the lights off for full effect.
Game play is nice and straightforward. It's easy to find your way around, and it's basically a point and click game. You don't have to master any complicated key combinations to play it.
And the last item: the central puzzle is set up in a realistic way, using real-world scenarios. By this I mean, nobody has set up a magical chess game that you have to solve to get into a locked area, or designed a labyrinth in the cellar that you have to navigate to pick up a scrap of paper. Sure, it's supernatural, and there are puzzles, but they make sense in context. I appreciate that, because it's easier to immerse yourself in the fantasy when you're working with real-life objects and puzzles.
