『We love our coffee maker. This model is rated VERY highly by Consumer Reports, which was enough to convince me to spend the dough for it. No problems, easy to use, always reliable. And the coffee is hot and delicious.
It does take time to adjust to this machine. For example, if you follow their recommendations for the amount of coffee, it can come out a little weak. So, you know, just add more coffee. If you think the beeping is too loud, or you don't like the auto shut-off, then you can turn that stuff off. Most of the complaints I've seen from other reviewers are simple to fix, non-problems.... IF you read the instructions.
Seems lots of folks with rage issues are hatin' on this coffee maker. My advice to them is as follows:
--read the manual
--learn some yoga.
This is a great little machine, and I wouldn't have any other. If you're not a sociopath and you are willing to take an hour out of your day to learn how to have great coffee for the next five to ten years of your life, you'll be thrilled with this machine.』

『This machine replaced a still perfectly functional Black and Decker Smart Brew Plus, in its day a Consumer Reports best buy. The Cuisinart was top rated by the magazine in its December 2009 issue.

The Black and Decker makes a decent cup of coffee, and is easy to work with. With an easy to use carafe, an exterior water level indicator, and very intuitive controls, it was a pleasure to work with.

By comparison, the Cusinart has its problems. Water level can be eyeballed if you look over the top and toward the back of the machine. Below 8 cups the indicators fade away into darkness. The Black and Decker machine and carafe has indicators that took coffee absorption into account, the Cuisinart doesn't.

Both are programmable, but the Cuisinart adds hot plate temperature controls (you want medium, unless you add lots of cold milk), and a small brew feature. The Black and Decker turns its plate off after two hours, the Cuisinart's is programmable. The Black and Decker has an easy to read clock; the Cuisinart's requires squinting. The Black and Decker is cheap; the Cuisinart isn't.

In the end, the Cuisinart makes a better cup of coffee. In small batches, the Cuisinart makes a much better cup of coffee. I've used a lot of coffee makers over the years from Braun, Krups, Mr. Coffee and the aforementioned Black and Decker, and none matched the brew this unit produces. In the end, I'll put up with a few quirks for a good cup of french roast.

One final note: I compared the two units by using the Black and Decker carafe to measure water. Cuisinart uses a smaller cup size definition than Black and Decker, but with equal amounts of water, the Cuisinart still produced a stronger, smoother brew. I suspect it heats the water hotter.』

(Makes great tasting coffee)

『Bought this for my wife and she loves it. I chose this coffe machine because it is highly rated. We have been using it daily for several months and it makes great tasting coffee. A little more effort to clean than using disposable filters, but after getting used to it we don't mind at all. Using the wire mesh filter is better for the environment and it makes the coffee taste better(paper filters absorb oils from the coffee). We leave the top open for a few hours after use to let it dry.
The clock and program brew options are nice to have, as well as the carbon, though not critical. The only downside is when filling the tank, it is a little tough to see how much water you are putting in. You have to look down from the top of the maker and if there is not enough light, it's very tough to tell how much water you put in. If it had a side indicator of water level that would be more conevnient. That is why I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars.』

『Despite criticism that it is eclectic to the point of distraction (sometimes expressed as `Has Sting run out of ideas?'), BRAND NEW DAY contains several of the finest songs of the entire final decade of the twentieth century. Sting being Sting, you wade through a couple of dry stretches on this album as on almost any of its level. Yet the gems are gorgeous, enduring glimpses of brilliance. The album's opening track, `A Thousand Years', may be the most splendidly lush love song to be performed in twenty years. Pulsing, obsessed with a love whose mathematics defy infinity, Sting in this profound statement of amour knows only one thing: I still love you.

No one creates a new sound like Sting. Among the not always convincing concoctions on a CD that gyrates like the stock market in a very insecure moment, storms forward `Desert Rose'. Sting and Algerian singer Cheb Mami, supported by enthralling orchestration, pull off a profoundly moving piece that must have seemed unlikely to Sting's minders when he unveiled the concept. The lyrics are as evocative as the music itself:

It is a marvel that Sting can sing with his tongue as firmly planted in cheek as `Big Lie Small World' requires. Yet this tune, too, is vintage Sting: funny, cerebral, and self-deprecating all at once, punishing himself for a foolishly lost love and awash in a world of bigger, wealthier Alpha-males ready to harvest the affections of the woman who used once to be by his side

The aptly named `Ghost Story' is a mesmerizing tale of regret, of love handed over too soon to lawyers who know nothing of nourishing such a child. One wishes, in the face of such poetic and musical mastery, to start life over again, to stay as far from this song's conclusion as a human being can know how.

These are high points on an album that begs to be owned and turned over in the hand, held up to the light, from time to time contemplated for the treasure that is in it.

If BRAND NEW DAY signals that Sting has lost his way, then let's follow him off into the bush, for the path has grown cold, unpromising, still.』

(Technical perspective)

『I am a Sting fan, and I am not a professional critic. However, I am a musician and a music student, and I wanted to offer a statement from that perspective.

"Big Lie Small World" has nine beats per measure. The ending (and the entirety of the original version) of "Fill Her Up" is in 7/8. Though not on most albums, "The End of the Game" is in 6/4, or some duple equivalent.

The rest of Sting's career is full of odd time signatures - "Love Is Stronger Than Justice" is in 7; "I Was Brought to My Senses" is in 7; "Seven Days" Is in 5; "Straight To My Heart" is in 7.

What was the last song you heard that wasn't in 4/4? Every once in a while, someone may write a waltz, but when it comes to rhythmic structure, the music on the radio is unfortunately the same. It used to be that when I would speak to my musician friends about music, I would ask them if they could play in a time signature other than 4/4. A vast majority could not!

Just imagine if popular music was limited to songs written in a major key, and songs in minor keys were too dreary to listen to. Or, imagine that all chord changes had to occur directly on the beat without syncopation, or else it would sound jumpy and erratic. Worse yet, imagine that electric guitar, bass, and drums were the only popular instruments. What would music be worth listening to?

There is no end to the stylistic elements that can be incorporated into musical composition. The critic on the main page said that the odd time signatures "prevent the songs from grooving." This is a typical opinion, and unfortunately so. But for once, it is refreshing to hear a contemporary artist who isn't limited to common time.』

『There is a difference between being an inspired musician and an informed musician. Sting is the latter. As always, he surrounds himself with ultratalented artists: this time around Stevie Wonder, Branford Marsalis, James Taylor, guitarist Dominic Miller, and the prince of rai Cheb Mami, fill the roster.Brand New Dayexhibits about as many musical styles as there are tracks, all encased in dense, meticulous production. The album begins promisingly. "A Thousand Years" pulses atop a lush, two-note foundation. "A Desert Rose" folds trilling Algerian pop into trip-hop. Melodic, late-night jazz ballads dominate the middle portion of the collection. But Sting's preoccupation with odd-numbered time signatures prevents the songs from grooving, while the choruses are yawns. "Fill Her Up" (no, not "Fill 'Er Up"), a country tune, represents Sting at his most self-indulgent. Listening to one of the wealthiest musicians in pop singing "Got no money to invest / Got no prospect / Or education / I was lucky to get the job at this gas station" requires a heroic suspension of disbelief. The song morphs into this gospel number where Sting and a supporting chorus chant "You gotta fill 'er up with Jesus! / You gotta fill her up with life!" (Deja Intend To?)

『Probably my least favorite of all their albums... but that's not saying much. This album rocks. The band takes a little getting used to, but they grow on you...and grow....and grow』

(Brand New - Deja Entendu. Unique is the word.)

『Before you write this band off as another pop-punk, three chord act, allow me to slap you. Because you clearly have not listened to this album. This is NOT like Brand New's first album, "Your Favorite Weapon", but instead makes dynamic changes in musical style and lyrically shifts to much more mature themes. It will immediately catch your ear with it's second track, "Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades", which features a riffing bassline and spoken lyrics concerning the anxiety of a young man's first time.
As you venture further into the album, each song offers something different, and absolutely no two songs sound alike. There is nothing else out there today this unique in my opinion. The songs also all transition extremely well into eachother, and it works well as all the songs seems like a story all mashed into one.
Now that I really think about it, this album is like riding a roller coaster. It's non stop, and you have no idea what's coming next.

Song by song review:

1. Tatou: The opening track is only about a minute and a half long, but I like the dark, slow, contemplative guitar line. It sets the stage well for the rest of the album.

2. Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades: Translates to "Thus Passes the glory of the World." in French. As mentioned above, this song's bassline is absolutely great. Picks up fast after the somewhat slow opener. Bound to be a favorite among listeners.

3. I Will Play My Game Beneath The Spin Light: A song that starts off acoustic but eventually builds into a crescendo of guitars. Another great song lyrically, and a catchy chorus.

4. Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't: One of my favorites, just an incredibly unique song. Very intricate musically, and again, you just have to love this band's lyrical style.

5. The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows: Brand New's first single from Deja Entendu. A great, great song that just flat out rocks. Probably the most straightforward song, of course excellent lyrically. The bridge and the opening guitar riff is genius.

6. The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot: Ahhh, here we are. This is my favorite song on the album, and my favorite Brand New song overall. Again, starts off acoustic, and then builds slowly. The way the vocals are sung in this is beautiful. The song is full of emotion, and the bridge part with the dual vocals gives me chills. The music goes so well with the vocals. The soft electric guitar lick during the second verse in between the vocals is simply beautiful, and the lyrics are heart breaking. "You are the smell before rain, you are the blood in my veins..." I love this song.

7. Jaws Theme Swimming: I'm going out on a limb here and saying that this is the most unique song on the album. And that's saying something with how different this entire CD is. The jazz like guitar and bass riff in the verses is truly excellent, as are the lyrics, and the ending bassline deserves many accolades. Another one of my favorite songs from this album.

8. Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis: Starts off slowly, with the vocals being almost whispered into the mic, then after two verses of that, breaks into distorted guitar with a nice riff melody. Great lyrics again. The main melody in the verses is very emotionally moving.

9. Guernica: A song written about the lead singer's grandfather's battle with cancer. To be honest, was never one of my favorites on the album, but as the time goes by I find myself listening to it more and more. Of course, is has great, touching lyrics. But I feel musically it doesn't live up to the rest of the songs.

10. Good To Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have To Do Is Die: Yes, it's a crazy title, but there's a story behind it. Will I explain it now? No, don't feel like it. But this song is excellent. Great, mellow guitar opening, lyrically it's about the straglehold record companies try to put on bands. Longest song on the album, 7 minutes to be exact. Great catchy guitar riff in the bridge, and another lyrical masterpiece.

11. Play Crack The Sky: A completely acoustic piece, just guitar and vocals. Towards the end duel vocals come in. To me, this is a song that would go well over a montage of pictures and memories from your life, and when your old you look back on them and hear this song. Like Guernica however, this song took me a little bit to get into. I do really like the way it ends, though.

There is also a bonus track called "Flying At Tree Level". I don't think it's on the original version of this CD, but I'm sure you can find it online somewhere. It's a great, catchy song. A bit more standard than the ones on the album, but good nonetheless.

And that's that. One of my favorite albums of all time. Virtually flawless. I never get sick of this album, either. It just always stays fresh because the songs are so unique.
Again, if you haven't heard this album, please do yourself a favor and get it. It doesn't matter when kind of music you listen to, I guarantee this will catch your ear.』

『This is one of my favorite cd's of all time. First time I heard, meh it was okay. But, after I heard "Sic transit gloria..Glory fades" a few times, I was hooked. Then I noticed how well the songs flowed together and how awesome they were.
It may have to grow on you, but it rocks. I come back to listen to this cd alot.

『I like emo punk rock and hadn't heard of Brand New until recently. I bought this based on a recommendation from a friend. I like listening to it. It is unique but easy to get in to. This group is more lyrical than I expected from a young band which adds to the CD. Many groups like this can play and scream but the lyrics are weak. Brand New has that element of being clever writers as well. I would recommend this if you like Jack's Mannequin, New Found Glory, Angels&Airwaves, etc.』

(Still New to Me)

『If you are looking for a change of pace in Christmas music - get this CD - it is wonderful! It has so many different and unique Christmas songs - I listened to it non-stop throughout the holiday season. It gets 10 stars in my book.』

(A Phenomenal Christmas CD)

『I had never heard of SheDaisy when I picked up this CD. Well what a revelation! The song arrangements are the most creative, unique and interesting I have heard -- great vocal melodies, harmonies and counter-melodies. The "classic" Christmas songs are all given refreshing new treatment (just because it says "Jingle Bells" doesn't mean you know what it will sound like), and the new self-penned tunes are also wonderful. This is what a good Christmas CD should be -- an artists' unique stamp on the songs of the season, and an introduction of new songs into the mix as well. A CD of which you won't quickly tire!』

『i give this fine mini-series 4 stars because this one was used to set up the rest of the series but for reasons unknown they stoped after this one.
philip kent is now an old man(and now played by martin millner)and his son's are now the focus of the series. randolph mantooth is quite good as the oldest son who must do things for himself.his trek west with wife and new child is the focus of the first part and we get to see how hard the way really was and leaves us with very powerful images of the life and death daily life of our andercesters. the second part follows kent's two grandchildren as they fight for their part of the american dream. very well done,and i hope to see the other books turned into mini-series someday.』

『i saw this one when it first came on t.v. and i liked it very much. the story of the kents moves to the next generation as philip's son take off for the west and finds a way is hard and full of many hardships. it gives this movie some powerful moments as we see what our forfathers went through to settle this wild land. i'm giving this 4 stars because is looks and feels like what it is ,just the set up for the rest of the novels to be filmed,so you are left hanging as to what happens next. for reasons i never understood they stoped after this one and made no more. maybe some day some one will do the rest of the story of the family kent.』

『Another tired John Wayne vehicle from the 1970s, with the Duke going through the motions in a typical Western melodrama. Director Andrew V. McLaglen shows little enthusiasm for the preachy script while underusing a fine array of character actors. The opening scene falls painfully flat in its attempt to emulate Clint Eastwood's "Dirty Harry." Sorry to say, but "Cahill" looks like a made-for-TV movie that somehow acquired a major box-office star.』

(Western with plenty of parental advice)

『Cahill is a somewhat different Western than most of John Wayne's film. Cahill tries to tackle a pretty serious topic - what happens when a father is not involved in raising his boys. Pretty heavy stuff for a Western. In this case - the film does a decent job pulling it off. Because of his neglect, or perhaps inspired by it, Cahill's sons participate in a bank robbery. The Duke spends the rest of the movie trying to find the culprits.

There are some good action scenes in the film, and George Kennedy is excellent as the main bad guy. If you like John Wayne movies with a somewhat serious theme, then you will enjoy this one. It reminds a little bit of the Cowboys.』

『Late in his career, John Wayne did a handful of westerns that while not classics, were and are always reliable entertainment for his fans. Cahill US Marshal is one of those westerns, almost like comfort food in movie form. JD Cahill is a tough as nails US Marshal who always get his prey and isn't afraid to go up against a gang all by himself. But returning home after a long time on the trail, Cahill finds out the local bank has been robbed, but there's no tracks anywhere in or out of the town that the robbers left. As he begins to investigate, Cahill begins to wonder exactly what's going on and who's involved. At the same time, the Marshal is trying to reconnect with his sons who since his wife died have almost raised themselves. Nothing too different here, but it's a quality western with some good action and beautiful locations around Durango. The town location from The Train Robbers has been expanded to a much bigger town. All in all, a worthwhile pick for John Wayne fans and westerns in general.

The Duke stars as U.S. Marshal J.D. Cahill, the peace officer trying to right a wrong with his sons while also bringing a gang of four bank robbers to justice. John Wayne late in his career was still a great presence, and his role here as a bigger than life US Marshal doesn't disappoint. Gary Grimes is good as Cahill's 17-year old son, Danny, who angry at his father for not being around gets caught up in the wrong crowd, bringing his 13-year old brother, Billy Joe (Clay O'Brien), into the mix as well. Neville Brand has some good moments as Lightfoot, a half-breed Comanche who tracks for Cahill and serves as a sidekick of sorts. George Kennedy may be remembered as a great character actor who played sidekicks and supporting roles, but he's very good here as the villian, Fraser, the gang leader who knocks off the bank with some special help. Morgan Paull as Struther and Dan Vadis as Brownie are members of the gang. With a Wayne western, there's got to be some stock company appearances and there's a plenty, including Paul Fix, Harry Carey JR, Royal Dano, Denver Pyle, Hank Worden, and Chuck Roberson to round out the cast.

Along with a very nice looking widescreen presentation, the DVD offers some pretty cool features, including a director commentary from Andrew V. McLaglen, a director who worked with Wayne many times in the actor's later years. Also added on is an 8-minute featurette, The Man Behind the Star, about peace officers in the west and how the movie portrays them, a trailer, some cast and crew info, and a little recap of Wayne's later westerns. So overall, this isn't a classic western like The Searchers or Liberty Valance, but Cahill US Marshal is an enjoyable western from Duke's later years that fans will like. 『The show is a very charming story about a New York doctor sent to a small town in Alaska to work for two years to pay off loans. The town is thrilled to have a doctor, the doctor who thought he was going to be in Anchorage is not so pleased. So how to make the doctor happy? How to treat patients with no equipment? The interesting story develops with the town residents trying to live their lives and go forward while their doctor is waiting until he can leave. Strangely enough, everyone gets used to each other and begins to enjoy their lives as best as possible. I have to admire how well plowed the streets are in this town and how sunny it is most of the time. I wonder where it was really filmed. Still a nice show that I missed the first time around.』

Dr. Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow), the New York urbanite stationed in small-town Alaska to pay off his medical-school tuition, still complains constantly about his assignment, but it's clear the town's growing on him when he passes up an opportunity to return home (if only temporarily). 『I've found that tonic water makes all of the difference in a gin&tonic and Fever Tree is the one for me. One bottle combined with about 2 ounces of Tanqueray's Ten gin over ice might make the most perfect drink I've ever had. The bitter is perfectly balanced with citrus and the right amount of sweet. I don't have anywhere local to pick up Fever Tree so the availability of it by the case is also fantastic.』

(It must be refrigerated after opening as there are no added preservatives.) I have stayed away from PB for years because of the fat content and calories- now I can have it again! (And, no, I don't work for the company, either!) I find it to be very satisfying even without the extra calories and fat. So I would urge others to judge for themselves. If you need to limit your calorie and fat intake you just might want to give this a shot. I'm sure glad I did!』

『This coffee grinder is small, convenient, and, most importantly, inexpensive.

However, it does not grind very evenly and although I clean it fairly regularly per instructions, it produces an odd smell, almost like burning coffee.

I would recommend it to individuals just starting to grind their own coffee or looking for convenient travel-sized units (it does require an outlet, however), but not to more experienced coffee drinkers or those looking for high quality.』

『I bought this for grinding spices. The price is good, with free shipping, and the grinding compartment seems superior to my old Cuisinart. With my old grinder, the mostly plastic blade disintegrated after limited use. Nothing worse then ground plastic in your food. As with every grinder I've used, for coffee or spices, there's a static buildup and the grounds prefer to stay in the grounds compartment. Not really sure how to prevent that. A paint brush type of tool helps to remove all of the contents, but some do tend to remain. As such, I would not use a grinder for both spices and coffee. The blade seems to be mostly metal, which hopefully translates to an extended blade life.』
