『This soundtrack is fantastic. Toby's songs are over the top. There is one song that I heard during the movie, that doesn't appear in the soundtrack. It is the song playing on the radio when Toby and his ex-girlfriend are driving toward the "party" that Dixie is at. Does anyone know what the name of the song is and why wasn't it included in the soundtrack?』

(A Rare Find)
『I wasn't sure what to expect from the 'Broken Bridges' Soundtrack as I'd pretty much bought it for two songs; 'Broken Bridges' and 'Broken'. The rest of the soundtrack hadn't really stood out to me while watching the movie. But, from the first time I listened to it, I fell in love with it. Every song is catchy or great to listen to and there's a good mix of styles, from the ballady duet 'Broken Bridges' to the folk-style 'The Battlefield' that makes one think of misty green fields, to the high energy 'Big Bull Rider'. Any Toby Keith fan will not be disappointed as seven of the fourteen songs feature the country singer, four of them original to the soundtrack, although the final song, 'Jacky Don Tucker', originally from Keith's 'Dream Walkin'' album (1997), has been given a reworking. 'Broken Bridges' could be a stand alone album and one does not have to have seen or even liked the film for it to be enjoyed. It is fun, powerful, tear-jerking, toe-tapping, eclectic, and addictive (you will get some tunes stuck in your head). It's worth it even if only to hear the instrumental 'The Waiting Game' which is a beautiful piece of music. There are also photos from the film and enhanced content which I have yet to check out. 'Broken Bridges' is an exciting find and has become one of my favourite albums in the short time I've had it.』

The movie was great and this is the #1 soundtrack of the year for me. I love the songs by Toby Keith. He slows things down a little. Several of these songs are about forgiveness but all of them are very touching. If you listen to the words, there is a song on this CD for you. Buy the movie too. It is really, really good. You did good Toby. Lindsey Haun is precious in this movie.』

(A Classic Western)
『"Broken Arrow" is a classic western based on fact. Many of the events portrayed in this film are based on history. There actually was a Tom Jeffords (James Stewart) and a Cochise (Jeff Chandler), but some literary license is taken. This film takes a different view of native Americans. I remember seeing this film in a theater as a child and will never forget it. I was glad to see this out on DVD and is a purchase that I will never regret.』

『Broken Arrow is excellent, though imperfect by today's PC standards with the blue-eyed Jeff Chandler cast as Cochise. Still, the story is compelling and well-told with a great cast headed by the always great, James Stewart. I write this approximately 3 miles from Tom Jeffords gravesite in Tucson. I have to take issue with the part of Richard Jameson's Amazon review where he states: "Broken Arrow wasn't the first Western to express sympathy for the Indian side in the frontier wars (Devil's Doorway came out earlier in 1950 and filed a more scathing brief on the Indians' behalf). No kidding! Off the top of my head, here are several films sympathetic to Native Americans that pre-date DEVIL'S DOORWAY. As mentioned in another customer review John Ford's FORT APACHE (1948), Cochise is portrayed as an honorable leader, concerned for his people and forced to flee the reservation due to the corrupt management of the Indian agent and forced to fight due to a cavalry commander's (Henry Fonda) arrogance and ignorance. A corrupt Indian agent is again the villain in Ford's SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON (1949). Also, Ford cast Native Americans in both these films as well as many other of his works. Corrupt business interests are clearly the "bad guys" in 1946's BUFFALO BILL and in 1942's THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON. Granted, while painting George Armstrong Custer as sympathetic to the plight of the plains indians is strictly a plot convenience, the plots also make it clear in both films that the Cheyenne and the Sioux are forced into war by broken promises and lies. Chiefs Yellow Hand and Crazy Horse are both portrayed as men of honor, and coincidentally both portrayed by Anthony Quinn. To his credit, Mister Jameson is aware that the first films to portray the Native American situation in the 1800s in a sympathetic light were not LITTLE BIG MAN or DANCES WITH WOLVES. Other than that, I have no opinion on this matter.』

(Delmer Daves offers an important major role to an Indian character, treating him with quality and esteem as human being...)
『Stewart plays a scout who seeks to heal the divisions between the Apaches and white men... But while "Broken Arrow" is a perfectly acceptable depiction of frontier struggles, it does not display Stewart to the best advantages... Delmer Daves was competent enough, but he lacked the ultimate virility and intensity of Anthony Mann...

"Broken Arrow" examines, rather intensely and directly, the mistreatment and flagrant exploitation of the Indians by whites in the early West...

The strength of this often lyrically photographed picture which will a1ways have an honorable place among Westerns lies particularly in the touching dignity of Stewart's love and marriage to an Indian girl (Debra Paget). Indian haters, of course, stir up the usual sort of trouble and Stewart's bride becomes a victim with all the consequent poignancy for which the film is best remembered...

The over-wise Chandler counsels him that he must learn to live with his whiteness just as his new friends must contend with their own place in the cosmic scheme of things... Cochise has words of stark consolation for Stewart: "As I bear the murder of my people, so you will bear the murder of your wife."

The most interesting aspect of " Broken Arrow" is not the interracial romance between Stewart and Paget, but Stewart's relationship with Chandler's Cochise... There is intra-character complexity here, as Chandler struggles to overcome his disturb of all whites, and Stewart attempts to comprehend the different philosophy and cultural of the Indians...

Jeff Chandler was quite apt and professional... He was so believable in the role of the Apache chief Cochise that he was to essay it again in George Sherman's "The Battle at Apache Pass" in 1952... Chandler's facial bone structure lent itself to noble, incisive Indian profiles, and unlike other Caucasian actors he did not look out of place... He was even nominated for Best Supporting Actor at that year's Oscars...』

『Great western movie with one of Hollywood's best actors. James Stewart is great as a man who sees the future of the west and promotes peace between the Indians and the agressive white man.』

(Breathtaking Arizona scenes)
『Broken Arrow, starting Jimmy Stuart and Jeff Chandler is a superb film about the fight of the Apaches to maintain their way of life as the white man claims more and more territory away from the tribes.

The story takes place against beautiful scenes of the Arizona landscape. We see an ex-army scout by the name of Tom Jefford save the life of young Indian boy who has been shot during a fight with the white man and the boy begins to understand that not all white man are alike, and that while some may be bad, at least this one was willing to stop his day to day activity for the purpose of preservation of his life.

When the tribe finds him, he interferes on behalf of this white man and, in turn, saves his life as he explains to his fellow Apaches how this white man is different. So, the white man in turn, begins to understand that not all Apaches are bad, that they can be honorable and appreciative. To resolve the differences between the Apache and the white man, Tom Jefford learns the language of the Apaches, learns about their customs, ways and beliefs. He wants to meet with their chief, Cochise to see if they can live in peace.

At least he wants to get Cochise to agree that no post-man carrying US mail will be attacked. Correspondence exchanges had come to a stop for the people of the town.

The big day comes when Tom Jefford rides towards the unknown, getting deeper and deeper into Indian Territory in search of Cochise. He has been told not to lie under any circumstances because Cochise is able to see into his heart. As he approaches the chief's hold-out, he realizes that he is not stopped even though many worriers are looking as he goes by and finally, he reaches Cochise.

The men meet and develop mutual respect and in time, a great friendship. Tom walks away with the promise that the mailmen will be respected, even though all other travelers will still be at war. Now, the hard work starts because on both sides, Indians and whites, there are many resentful individuals that try to prevent peace.

The story develops with great challenges on sides, much hard ache and we see how "change' is a difficult subject and how men must work hard to evolve beyond war to live in peace.

But the movie is beautiful, the scenery breathtaking and the acting simply superb, so we sincerely recommend that you do not miss this one!

(My Struggle with "Tibet; Cry of the Snow Lion")
『"Tibet; Cry of the Snow Lion" is a very good documentary with a good mix of newsreel film, spectacular mountain vistas, interviews, and modern footage of the Tibetan problems. My lone objection to the documentary was the heavy emphasis on the "problem" of Chinese immigration to Tibet. I understood that the political and religious repression of Tibet has left much of modern Tibet looking less like its' former self and more like modern China. The efforts of one of Mao's ten year plans was disasterous to the region. However, the suggestion that the encouragement of Chinese immigration to Tibet is a means of breaking the country's political and spirtual independence was a bit narrow-minded in my opinion.

I wonder what the contributors of "Tibet; Cry of the Snow Lion" would have to say about the expanding Muslim population in Europe. Would they join a small but growing chorus of those who advocate a concept of ethnic purity. Perhaps a case could be made that the muslim rise in political and religious influence in Europe is intentional as well. We live in a world in which populations are in flux in many areas of the world. This selective emigration/immigration certainly is having an impact in a number of locations including the United States. The all too frequent scenes of amusement parks in Tibet suggests that lesser people are corrupting the purity of Tibetan culture. This documentary gives a lot of evidence in support of real repression of Tibetan culture and religion. However, the Nazi-like call for ethnic cleansing (except for enlightened mountain climbers) struck a very sour note with me.』

(An important documentary)
『Nutshell review - This is an important documentary; an entire culture and people are being erased from Tibet and the world seems unable or unwilling to stop it. Over 1 million are dead and countless more have been tortured, displaced and disinherited from their homeland. The suffering and bravery of those oppressed are truly heroic and the apathy of the world truly a shame. This is certainly a documentary worth watching; an informative and heart breaking human tragedy told with compassion and insight.』

(More Guts Than We Americans Ever Dreamed Of!)
『A moving film of the bravery it takes for "overt action" from a nation's citizens. Something American citizens do not have when it comes to fighting oppression here at home!

Too bad this film isn't required viewing for everyone about grade 8 and up.

(Mostly Propaganda)
『There's a lot wrong with this film. It is factually incorrect on both big and small claims. Since this is a short review, I'll give one salient example of a gross factual inaccuracy and some recommended readings for the truly curious and fair/open-minded student of Sino-Tibetan history.

The film makes a claim that the human rights organization ICJ (International Committee of Jurists) found that China was guilty of committing genocide and had killed "1.2 million Tibetans." This is the opposite of what the committee actually found. The ICJ concluded that no evidence of genocide occurred in Tibet. Now it is possible that the film was going by the accusations made by the ICJ in 1959 published in a preliminary report based only on exiles' hearsay accounts. This preliminary (pre-investigation) report was titled "The Question of Tibet The rule of Law." However, after an extensive one year investigation, the ICJ was forced to conclude that there was no evidence to support the exiles' claim of genocide as defined under international law. This report was titled "Tibet and the Chinese People's Republic." They concluded their study with:

"The COMMITTEE did not find that there was sufficient proof of the destruction of Tibetans as a race, nation or ethnic group as such by methods that can be regarded as genocide in international law." (Legal Inquiry Committee, "Tibet and the Chinese People's Republic, Geneva ICJ")

No good documentary film-maker, who truly is candidly invested in finding the truth would confuse preliminary accusations with the actual findings. That's like accusing someone of a crime based on what the prosecutor had said at his trial when he had already been legally exonerated by the jury. That is incompetent journalism at best and downright slanderous at worst.

Also, regarding the genocide accusations, see what the former director for the Free Tibet Campaign in London, Patrick French had to say about the pro-Tibet organizations' claims of genocide and the 1.2 million figure:

"These groups hate criticism almost as much as the Chinese government does. Some use questionable information. For example, the Free Tibet Campaign in London (of which I am a former director) and other groups have long claimed that 1.2 million Tibetans have been killed by the Chinese since they invaded in 1950. However...while researching my book on Tibet, I found that there was no evidence to support that figure."

Ironically, many of the experts in the film had written books demolishing the claims within it! For example, A Tom Grunfeld's excellent book "The Making of Modern Tibet," (devoting a large portion of one chapter) explicitly refutes claims of genocide.

Grunfeld's book also claims that Tibet had gained tremendously by way of standard of living post Chinese takeover and that China did have a sufficient legal claim over Tibet under international law. Other factors culminating in the communist decision for a takeover of Tibet involved complex realpolitic maneuvering between the west and China over control of the strategically valuable central Asian region. Western (and especially CIA) skullduggery during that period in Asia and its ultimate tragic consequences for Tibetans had largely been forgotten but is amply documented by Grunfeld and other historians and tibetologists but completely ignored in this film. Given the historical facts, it is understandable why it was inevitable that China would takeover Tibet. This film does not offer a balanced view of that (more complex and accurate) perspective.

Moreover, in an interesting passage, Grunfeld also says that in the propaganda wars between the pro-Tibet side and the Chinese side, the Chinese side had "lied less."

I didn't give this film one star because I do believe that it documents great human rights violations against the Tibetans. These clips should be scrutinized carefully by those who care about the situation Tibet. But for those who truly care, it's not enough to spend two hours watching a movie.

The Tibet-China issue is very complex. I don't doubt great tragedies happened in Tibet as a result of communist brutality and incompetence. But in our culture, we tend to only listen to things condensed into sound-bite-sized pieces and to view things only as black/white or evil/good. It's easy to sip lattes, and shout slogans but to be truly informed about a complicated situation, we may have to get passed the superficiality and actually pick up a book! I recommend, besides the Grunfeld book, Melvyn Goldstein's "The Snow Lion and the Dragon" and Barry Sautman's "Contemporary Tibet." Both may be purchased at amazon.』

『well I ordered these in the hopes that the lock picks would be of quality but what I got was completely different

I can confirm that these picks do work but I recommend going and buying a better set than these. When I first opened the package around 4 of them had cut through the original packaging and all of them were bent a little to the left and you couldn't bend them back into shape.

The picks are in my opinion are of poor quality for instance the black color of the picks is truly paint and wears off as you use them.』

『So much emphasis is placed on stereotypes in the world of literary criticism and social commentary that contemporary writers are often afraid of writing archetypes into their works. But the creators of 'Friday Night Lights' were brave and diligent enough to find those archetypes in small-town life and breath character into them.

FNL's bravery pays off in character roles as small as that of Ray "Voodoo" Tatum, an archetype representing Milton's Lucifer in 'Paradise Lost'. Voodoo isn't just the devil, he's the corporeal embodiment of temptation itself. Displaced from New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina, Voodoo becomes heavily courted by a number of rival schools. He becomes available to Dillon (the fiction high school the show is based on), but only at the cost of compromising Coach Taylor's integrity. Staying true to his archetype, Voodoo returns in the final episode of season one, approaching Smash Williams with one last temptation.

An archetype fleshed out into a full character is Buddy Garrity. A car dealership owner and Dillon Panthers booster, Buddy is the childish philanderer who is nonetheless charismatic in his gregarious nature and enthusiasm for Panthers football. He's the charmer that, like Voodoo, is something of a snake in the town to tempt Coach Taylor into wrong-doing.

And of course Kyle Chandler plays Coach Eric Taylor, the patriarch of the Taylor household and the Dillon football program. Coach Taylor is the good man that just wants to faithfully serve all his conflicting loyalties (the team, town, family), and he must agonize over temptations that offer themselves as shortcuts to the problems he agonizes over. Weighing on his conscience is his wife and confidant Tami, who simultaneously challenges and supports him in the way only a good mature marriage can achieve.

Every character around the Taylors is true to small-town Texas life. There's just no living between the Mississippi and the Rockies without meeting Matt Saracen and Landry Clarke (we call them goobers), the pair of off-beat friends whose antics make growing up in a small town so eventful (I've spent enough time in rest homes to know Matt's grandmother as well).

No matter the archetype, no matter the misdeeds, every character has a charm and likability almost unique to FNL. Even characters as different from one another as Tyra and Lyla, two girls from completely different social statuses and outlooks, grow on the viewer with an equal amount of sympathy.

Inevitably with a drama with sexually-active teens, there are's loads of hurt and anguish, and this is handled organically by the series, with really no hints of feeling contrived. The apparent dichotomy of devout Christians straying and cheating is handled responsibly, without any hints that the show creators are sneering at the downfalls of their characters. One senses they respect their struggling characters, and one's heart is left full and aching.

The pilot episode is a great American masterpiece. 'Explosions In The Sky' made for great scoring. The shaky cam makes for surprisingly intimate visuals.

Clear eyes, full hearts.』

『If I had to describe this show in one word, it would be REAL. You don't feel like you're watching a fictional show, you feel like you're watching the daily lives of people in a small, football-obsessed Texas town. The acting is superb, the storylines compelling, the characters intricate and complex and full of heart. There are no contrived plot devices, one-dimensional characters, or easy solutions to problems. Although everyone in the cast is great, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton as Coach and Mrs. Taylor give two of the best performances on television. Watch this show!!!』

『It is great that this show has survived a couple of cancellation scares.

It is truly one of the best acted and scripted shows on television. If you have not seen it, you need to get the first season - it lays the groundwork for what is to come.

You are introduced to the Coach (Kyle Chandler) and his family - including the extended family of his football team and the challenges they face growing up and with the tradgedy that sets up alot of the season and storylines.

『I am not into football at all and hadn't considered watching Friday Night Lights until a friend suggested it. From the beginning, I had a very visceral reaction to this show.

I found the characters to be complicated and interesting, and that there were often "two sides to a story." I know it sounds hackneyed, but it feels like I know the characters -- maybe more like this is a documentary than a fictional TV series. The writing and the acting is very moving, and I found myself very sad when it (Season One) was finished. Satisfied, but sad.

On to Season Two... I highly suggest picking this up!』

("A film must be finished, even if it must be finished blind" - a seductive film noir about filmmaking and obsession)
『Harry Caine is a blind screenwriter, watched over by his former production assistant, Judit, and her son, Diego. His simple routine is upset when he hears of the death of a wealthy tycoon, and is later visited by the dead man's son in disguise. Pressed by Diego to explain, Harry recounts the tragic tale of how he, then known as Mateo Blanco, had fallen in love and had an affair with the tycoon's former lover, when she played a role in a film he was then directing, and of the accident that left him blind. The story itself is convoluted but clear enough - and I can't quite understand all the complaints about the story being confusing since film noir often tells a story within a story and keeps the audience guessing. Things are resolved in the end, and nearly every loose strand is tied. This one adds to the usual complexities a reflection on cinema, and two films within the film, and explores what it takes to revisit and remake the past so as to go on living.

It is a very poignant and at times quite amusing film about memory, lies, double lives, jealousy and revenge. Beautifully filmed with the eye for vibrant color and beauty that Almodovar is known for, the film also serves as a reminder of the changes in film technology that have occurred over the past few decades, and of the changes that have taken place in Almodovar's own style as a filmmaker, given that the film within the film suggests the more melodramatic and stylized work of his past. The film within a film bears a striking resemblance to Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, the film that placed Almodovar on the world stage as one of the most intriguing of auteurs. Perhaps not among his greatest masterpieces - like All About My Mother or Talk to Her (Hable con Ella), which are my personal favorites - but still a very entertaining and provocative new film by one of the greatest living filmmakers. Highly recommended.』

(Strong Characters, Multiple Plot Threads, Ambiguous Ending)
『Although each character and plot line pays homage to a classic Hollywood archetype or genre, the most prominent cinematic device on display here is Almodovar's own signature narrative style (highly stylized sets; multidimensional characters with complicated family ties; intertwined and overlapping plot lines; references to old Hollywood stars and films; magnificent musical interludes).

The main character is a blind middle-aged writer who now goes exclusively by his nom de plume "Harry Caine." Harry used to be a great film director named Mateo Blanco but that identity vanished when he lost his vision in a tragic accident. Its that story that Harry tells. But even though Harry may be focused in on one plot line, other plot lines are unfolding all around him.

One of the main themes of this film is that we all have more than one identity; another theme is that we are never fully in control of our multiple selves and lives.

As Harry Caine relates his previous existences (to a young man that he will later learn is his son) we learn that back in the early 90's he fell in love with Lena (Penelope Cruz) and Almodovar spends just as much time developing her character as he does in developing Mateo Blanco/Harry Caine's. Lena, we learn, was a secretary but she also occasionally worked as a high end call girl when she needed the money and her boss, famous industrialist Ernesto Martel, was well aware of this. When her father needed an operation, Ernesto used this as an opportunity not only to make use of her services but to make her his full-time live-in mistress. For two years Ernesto and Lena maintain this status quo but eventually Lena gets restless. When she decides that she wants to pursue an acting career Ernesto is supportive to a certain extent but also jealous and so he hires his sexually confused son (from a previous marriage) to accompany her on the set. Upon first seeing her, Harry Caine/Mateo Blanco immediately falls in love with her, casts her in his film, and begins a torrid love affair with her. The jealous Ernesto begins plotting his revenge. But this plot line is full of its own twists. It is never clear just who is more corrupt: Ernesto or Lena. They each play a cat and mouse game with the other to get what they want, and neither seems altogether corrupt nor altogether innocent.

Mateo and Lena escape to Ibiza but to lure them back to Madrid Ernesto hires a crew to botch the editing of the film and to premiere his own sabotaged version of the film. It looks like the plan is working but then something goes terribly wrong or so it appears...it is never clear just what caused the terrible accident that takes Mateo Blanco's sight and his love from him forever.

Harry Caine tells this story 14 years after it happened in order to make himself feel better and to recover his old self; but there are other stories that have not been told as well and each untold story complements and complicates every other story. Each character either has a guitly conscience or is haunted by the past in some other way and storytelling seems to be the only way to assuage the power that the past has over them. But even after all of the stories have been told it remains unclear if anyone has actually been cured of the past.

This unresolved ending makes the film all the more intriguing, all the richer. Almodovar's ultimate vision seems to be that people are self-centered, driven by their own passions and interests, and blind to the harm that their actions may cause others. Almodovar's films are full of adults whose wrecked lives remain unresolved and children who inherit their parents loose ends.

Lesser filmmakers toy with genres but Almodovar always uses genre as a way to further his plot lines in immensely informed and suggestive ways. There is no other filmmaker working today who puts so much into each of his/her films. Almodovars last half dozen films have all been dark with moments of comic relief. In Broken Embraces the comedy is there but it comes late and functions not so much as relief but as irony. Despite his virtuosity with multiple genres, this film seems to indicate that Almodovar has film noir running through his thoughts and in his deeply impassioned veins.

Perhaps not a great film, but near great. A must-see for Almodovar (and film noir) fans.

(Broken Promises)
『Almodovar is a master filmmaker, which almost saves this rather self-indulgent piece. The acting is superb across the board, and the way he lenses Madrid and the surrounding countryside is breathtaking.

This makes it all the more unfortunate that the plot points do not connect and that integral aspects of the premise are too fantastic to be believable, which would not be a problem except that this is decidely a work of realism.

One of the major flaws of "Broken Embraces" is that it has no definite (or likeable) protagonist. Without this a film often fails to sustain momentum or the audience's investment, and such is the case here.

Worse yet is that the core of the film is told in the past tense, with Penelope Cruz's bombshell Lena confined to it. This could work if the story - a filmmaker's long lost love recounted - were inherently compelling, and in the beginning it is, especially due to Jose Luis Gomez's pitch-perfect portrayal of antagonist Ernesto Martel, a Donald Trump-like figure whose obsession with Lena fuels the film.

With too tenuous a grasp on key plot elements - the significance of both the blindness (or lack thereof) and alter ego of the tenuous protagonist, who goes either by Mateo Blanco or Harry Caine, the reasons behind the film's (fairly predictable) climax, the genetic history of several characters (one intended revelation toward the end of the film is easily assumed - taken for granted, even) - and a total lack of believability of the motivations of Judit, played by the luminous Blanca Portillo, nearly surmounting her clumsy material, makes the film fail to weave securely its many ragged threads. It inevitably trips over its own muddied feet. It's like a lover masquerading seductively in lingerie and then making a mad dash out the door.

The promises the film makes in the beginning are left unfulfilled, and so too is the viewer. Those who relish the presence of Cruz, whose presence bears more than a little resemblance to Monroe, and fine acting from a capable ensemble will find something praiseworthy in "Broken Embraces." Still, one viewing will be quite sufficient.』

『I was very surprised to discover that I like this album every bit as much as CONSOLERS OF THE LONELY. The dominant sentiment seems to be that CONSOLERS OF THE LONELY, their second album, is their breakthrough album. I think this album is just as strong as that one. I've been listening to it for long stretches on the road and progressively I've been sinking deeper and deeper into it. I like every song but the stand out for me is "Broken Boy Soldier". It has that raw, raspy rock blues twang to it that I just love. Plus there is the tinkle of a triangle throughout that I think is the perfect counterpoint. If one could put deep needle scratches into a groove on a CD, then this is the song which would be a mess on my album. My next favorite, which is beginning to give my first choice a run for the money is "Blue Veins" and for roughly the same reasons. By contrast, I like the crowd pleaser favorite on this album, STEADY AS SHE GOES, but it is very harmonious and unraw so it is a bit too "nice" for me. I do realize though that you have to have something for everyone and that is the song which won most polls (NPR for example). The number one reason I bought this album was because Jack White is part of the band. I haven't enjoyed a musician this much since the late Chet Baker was performing. He is an incredible talent.』

『I'm not that familiar with White Strips stuff (yet) but I have one album and granted it's not their best but there's still something that intrigues you about Jack White. It might be his energy but it's probably more his orginality. Now with the formation of The Dead Weather, it's good to see someone with a keen talent not waste it wrapped up with one band or group. Call me crazy, but I think he very much reminds me of Beck when it comes to creating music that is different, refreshing, nastalgic, raw all in the saw album. (yah, I still call them albums)』

Not the case with these Raconteurs. Teaming with fellow Detroit songwriter Brendan Benson and Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler, the rhythm section from Cincinnati band the Greenhornes, White exhales a bit, deferring enough to his mates to makeBroken Boy Soldiersplay like a team effort. Following the Benson blueprint, "Steady as She Goes," which opens as a slice of 1960's radio pop, the record steers away from pigeonholing the rest of the way. White's in a Middle Eastern mood for the title track as he pulls off a wicked Robert Plant howl, while Lawrence and Keeler excel on the chorus-strong "Intimate Secretary" and the optimistic acoustic rocker "Yellow Sun." Like so many all-star bands before them, The Raconteurs could be one and done. But don't place the blame on this fertile and genuine debut.--Scott Holter

『I was first exposed to this stuff in my martial arts training as an after-exercise ointment to help speed muscle recovery and alleviate soreness. After offering some to a few coworkers, I know have an almost steady business supplying this for everything from backaches to arthritis and tension headaches. It provides a deep, soothing heat that evaporates muscle pain, though I can't speak for its miracle cures on anything else that I've been told about. Its cheap, and a tablespoon or two is enough for a large area. It is water based, so it dries quickly and doesn't feel like slime, but it does stain easily, so take care not to spill it, but otherwise, this is the best I've found.』

『I purchased this item because of the good reviews, but I have not had good results with it. I have used it on my own hair (quite damaged), as well as both of my daughters' hair (one's is somewhat damaged due to coloring, the other's is quite healthy). With all three of us, there was no discernable difference--although by not being able to use conditioner on the treatment-day after shampoo, all of our hair seemed dryer.

Also, this product smells very much like beer or vinegar when you first apply it. The smell does dissipate, however, after several minutes. I also was having trouble applying it with the squirt bottle that came with it, so I started using a mini spray bottle, which did help. All in all, I expected better results, by far.』

『Of couse that a magnetized screwdriver or written instructions would make this kit better, to me what counts is that all the needed parts were there and worked. 30 minutes or so is all it takes to "recycle" your phone. Complete makeover. I used a video on youtube that sereiously helped. The video is for a 3G phone (mine is a 3GS) , but it saved the day. Below here is the link for the video with the instructions.

(The end justifies the means?)
『The end of the story is that I fixed my iPhone 3GS using this kit, and it works. Getting there could have been smoother, however, with some small accommodations on the part of the manufacturer (or packager).

The little screwdriver included with the kit may as well have been made of cheese -- it stripped itself removing the third screw (there are eight). Fortunately, the screw was fine and I had another screwdriver.

There are no instructions included. Not even badly-translated instructions -- just the replacement glass with the digitizer attached, the cheesy screwdriver, a suction cup on a keyring, a guitar pick, and a scraper/pryer. I have no idea what I might have done with the guitar pick... From the YouTube videos I watched (thank you, walap, for mentioning the tutorial videos in your review), I got the idea that I was supposed to use the suction cup to pull the old glass out, but the glass was shattered (which, you know, is why I was replacing it), and the suction cup couldn't form a seal. With some prying using various sharp instruments, none of which came in this kit, I got the old one out.

Because none of the YouTube videos used THIS kit, and there were no instructions, I suspect that I've installed the new glass having left a protective film on the inside that was meant to be removed -- but I didn't want to chance removing it without being sure it wasn't necessary. There are pull-tabs on the other pieces of film that you take off and no pull-tab on the piece in question; on the other hand, the replacement is not as crystal clear as the original.

But it does work. And that counts for a lot.

PS There's a tiny sticker over the earhole. If you get your phone all fixed up and but can't hear very well, look for that...』

(Got the glass, no tools.)
『Got the glass and digitizer I wanted with the stickers to install, just never got the tools listed in the item headline and described in one other review. Shipping was super quick, the item was correct and packaged nicely, just be aware you will have to order tools.』

(Better instructions might have helped)
『The kit arrived quickly and included several additional "guitar pick" tools not shown in the picture. Unfortunately, no directions are included, so I had to search for a YouTube video (from DirectFix)which made it look easier than it was.

I'm an electrical engineer with a lot of experience in do-it-yourself repair projects, but ran into problems following the video instructions. The pry tool was not strong enough to lift the panel, and quickly broke. (In retrospect, one of the "guitar pick" tools might have worked better, if I had known that's what it was for.)

The next problem came when separating the LCD from the glass panel. The video showed it being pried from the bottom edge. Unfortunately, the screw holes on the sides snap together, even with the screws removed, so you really have to release the sides first. But I followed the video, pried from the bottom, and cracked the LCD display in the process.

Finally, if the old glass is shattered, separating it from the plastic frame is messier than advertised.

In my opinion, it's the type of repair that most skilled people could do correctly the second time, after learning from their mistakes on the first attempt. A link to more complete instructions might have helped.

For those wanting an easier (but costlier) do-it-youself repair, you might want to consider ordering the complete panel, digitizer and LCD as an assembled unit. That makes it more of a "plug-in" replacement job, with less potential for grief.』

Since apple makes such a good product, technical assistance is rarely needed -so you this protection plan is a waste of money 9 times out of 10』

『At first I was reluctant to purchase an extended warranty/product support product. I took a chance and will never regret it. APPLE's customer support is First Class. It's better than the "Gold Standard". It's The Platinum Standard for customer support. Every Company should be as good.....their customer support people are knowledgeable and friendly. No long waits on hold; no trying to navigate a phone cue to get to the correct department/person.

I was so impressed with APPLE that I bought two 16gb Nano's and upgraded my phone to an iPhone.』

『I have had five i pods to date, 3 of which died(hard drives) and another that was given away. So i procured an Apple Care Protection Plan for my latest investment. At any rate it wasn't until about a year ago that i received my new "Classic" which had functioned well until one day when the screen went half black(not dropped or cracked). I called into "Apple Care" and after roughly 10 minutes on hold I spoke to a rep. For the most part the claim notification went smoothly and after 2 days I received a package form FedEx for shipment. After a three day wait I found out that they had "DECLINED" my service/replacement under the pretense that it was "ABUSED OR ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGED" and the item was shipped back. Perhaps i misunderstood the value of the "plan" but after careful analyst i discovered that the plan does NOT cover; "extreme environment (temp. and humidity), physical/electrical stress,power surges, lightning, static electricity, fire, ACTS OF GOD(???), or other external causes. Because this is the case i now have a near-useless ipod with totally useless coverage. Its safe to say that i am justifiably aggravated and wish i could never purchase another product of apples' again, unfortunately this is not the case.』

(Ready to accept a failed relationship and move on?)
『While thousands of books have been written to assist in winning a partner back or repairing a damaged relationship, this book is perfectly designed to aid in understanding that relationships sometimes fail and the importance of moving oneself into acceptance and future growth.

What I find most healing and true about this book is that, despite one partner's feelings that the relationship "should" work, or the other partner "should" love/remain with them, is the unfaltering encouragement in helping the rejected person understand and accept the other person's decision. Regardless of what the jilted party believes or feels, the truth that must be digested and accepted is that, for whatever reason, the one who left believes the relationship is broken. A hard lesson, no doubt; however, as the book imparts, if someone looks at the awesomeness of you and takes a pass, find someone who will embrace you and value you as you should be valued.

I think the book is clear and straight-forward: the burden on the hurt person is not to repair or necessarily to understand the other's motives, but to appropriately grieve the loss, accept it, and then to move on with their soon-to-be-even-more-fabulous life. It carefully demonstrates the unhealthy attempts/impulsive actions some may make to repair, stay connected, or seek "closure." The book cautions that this is wasted time and energy -- potentially damaging and embarrassing, too! -- and encourages healthy, proactive ways of containing/redirecting those impulses, so that the healing process may actually begin.』

『Breaking up is hard to do. After my college sweetie dumped me, I got "He's Just Not That Into You" and devoured it. I NEEDED it. Even my guy friends had become consolers and "Maybe he's just blah blah blah". Greg B cracked me upside the skull with a baseball bat. "DUDE! He's just not that into you!" And within a few days of repeating my new mantra - he's just not that into me - I was no longer on the floor dating Ben, Jerry, and Jack Daniels. So when my fiance told me "I love you but I'm not IN love with you, our wedding is off and I need you to move out now," I got THIS book while out driving to cry alone in my car. In one day, I read it cover to cover. Let me tell you... when my ex-fiance first told me all this, I wanted him BACK. And I would have done ANYTHING to keep him. But then Greg B cracked me upside the head again. "You're a SUPERFOX! And He's RETARDED not to see that! But don't waste your time with someone who is such a big enough loser that he doesn't see how awesome you are." *crack* Right upside the head. By the time I was done with this book, I had a new apartment, friends helping me load boxes into my new place, and was packing to move. When my fiance came home from a long weekend away and found me half packed up, with a new apartment, and a new life on the horizon, he suddenly didn't want me to go. Guess what? I still left. We've done this before... you want me to be here and be loving and so forth... then you freak out and try to kick me out and I cry and beg and you take off to go to Vegas for 4 days and then I beg you to come home and eventually you do, covered in stripper glitter and reeking of cigars... and you take me back (always with conditions that I change who I am to be in this relationship and keep you happy) and I'm a rug until you're happy then we're happy and - guess what... it's a cycle. It's not healthy. This time, I'm out. Looking back, I was kind of a b**** on my way out... but I didn't waste tears on a man who wasn't wasting tears on me. And as Amiira said in the conclusion of the book - you never regret NOT wasting time pining away for a guy.』

Seriously, had I had it a year ago, I would have saved a lot of time and pain. But, since I didn't, its REALLY helping me now. I'm way ahead of the curve because of this book.

I had become enthralled into these author's complex storyline's and when I read this book I sort of felt a bit saddened it was not that kind of book however it is a really great, sweet, funny story and was a joy to read. 『I enjoyed book 6 of The Broken Heart Series. This installment was a little darker than the previous offerings but filled with enough laugh-out-loud moments as to not make it too scary. The author's sarcasm is an art form and this story is full of wit and humor. This is a frisky adventure. I love demon heroes and Scots so Connor is a twofer! There's just something so sexy about an ultimate bad boy. If you are expecting your favorite residents of Broken Heart you'll be disappointed as much of the action takes place beyond the small town's Invisi-shield. I wished that I could have spent a little more time with the Irish hotties and the sexy, fury German triplets but I liked meeting a whole new cast of characters. It was nice to finally learn more about Phoebe as she hasn't really been spoken of much in past books. I just felt like this could have used something more, it was as if something was missing that I couldn't put my finger on. If you are new to the series or a frequent visitor to the paranormal haven in Oklahoma this is a fun read. - Theresa Joseph』

『Miguel Leon-Portillo's collection of Nahua accounts of the Spanish conquest affords the reader a unique opportunity to experience the conquest through the mind of the Amerindian. The book records the human response of the Nahuatl speaking peoples of central Mexico to the strange and terrifying events that ultimately destroyed their city and their way of life. Through songs, pictures, and oral tradition, the plight of the people was preserved, and some of the more powerful and eloquent of these are represented in "The Broken Spears."

Do not expect an objective historical account of the conquest from this book. That is not the intention, as clearly stated by Leon-Portillo in his introduction. Rather, it is a glimpse into how the natives responded to and came to terms with events that were so strange and frightening to them that they bordered on the apocalyptic. What the reader gains, then, is an eloquent testimony to the passion and intellect of the native people of central Mexico who were so often, in many Spanish accounts, reduced to barbaric, blood-thirsty savages with little capacity for human sympathy.』

『I enjoyed reading the Aztec account of the colonization of Colonial Mexico. The book is a translation of Nahuatl writings. See- the Spanish provided an alphabet which the Aztecs did not have prior to Spanish arrival and then the Aztecs applied the alphabet to their native Nahuatl language and began writing. The only concern a reader should have is accuracy- the documents of the account were written 10 years and more after the fact. A tip when reading: start with Chapter 14 which summarizes all the events, then read Chapters 1 - 13 which elaborate on events in detail, and finally conclude with chapters 15 - 16. I highly recommend this book for anyone studying Colonial Mexico History or persons who want to know more about Aztecs and their culture.』

『This game needs more single player content, I can't believe Namco didn't even bother porting a barebone story/arcade mode into it for us. The quickmatch mode against pre-made ghosts is fine, but why not let us share our ghost data online through websites? Who the heck is that lucky enough to find someone else they know in real life that have this game? Everything else was ported to the PSP very well, in terms of its gameplay mechanic and character roster.
Unless you know someone that you can play against over the psp, this game will get boring very quickly.

Tekken 5 and 6(psp) have more features than this game, it's really disappointing for an old school Soul Edge fan like me to see such a half-ass psp port.』

PSP doesn't support online play... so if you're truly a fan of the game, AND YOU HAVE a bunch of friends also addict to the game... then you might have some fun in network battle. If you have PS3 version.... Stay with it.

『Great visuals, sound fighting mechanics, but really no reason to keep playing. This game is just far, far behind the other games on the PSP in this genre. Go buy Dissidia or wait another month for Tekken 6. All in all, its basically not worth your time to play made-up create-a-characters over and over and over so you can collect their names.

The gauntlet is interesting but not innovative. No story mode, no online mode, no in-depth character bios, no movies, no ability to customize existing characters.. sigh.. just three different ways to play the same game.

and if you want to know how middle of the road this game is, go look for a FAQ for this game.. currently none out there.. no one is interested in making one.』

(Much improved AI)
『The first reviewer already said most of my points so I will simply add one more point that was not mentioned. I believe one of the biggest improvement I felt was the better CPU AI for Broken Destiny. Here is why:

- I noticed that the AI is more "human like" as it mimics both the good and bad habits of players. When playing the game I noticed the more advanced AI do intricate combos and tricks that I only seen when playing with my buddies when playing the PS3 version of Soul Calibur 4.

- The computer (at least those with the higher difficulty levels) adapts to your movement which means, you cannot use one set of moves over and over to defeat the AI opponent. I noticed that they tend to change their patterns. So if you start throwing a lot, the computer will start ducking to avoid your throws.

- The computer AI itself will check what moves are effective against you and they will spam that move over and over until you block it or you lose the battle. So if the computer notices that you always get hit by low attacks then it will keep attacking low until you change you pattern.

- I do not know how significant is this but if you follow the competitive soul caliber scene you will noticed that a lot of the AI names were taken from real life famous Soul Caliber tournament players such as famous French player, Kayane. Most of the AI moves mimic the style of the these players.

I'm not saying that the AI are better then a skilled opponent, because if you play the AI enough times, you will noticed that the ability for it to adapt is limited and tend to forget your patterns after the match is over. But despite of which, this is the best AI I have seen compared to the past Soul Calibur games』
