I got this for my dad for Father's Day and it's amazing! Roasted corn is so delicious! I highly recommend anyone to try it. This product also comes with a recipe of what spices to mix together to flavor the corn. It was so good! I wish I had some right now! :)
Not bad, perfect for what it was designed for... Best thing is you don't have to worry about the smaller corn falling out because the sides have a bar that holds even the loose ones in. Not the best quality, but works great never-the-less.

This entrancing collection of songs is a series of musical sketches in a surrealist style. One thinks of the paintings Dali, or perhaps, better, Ernst and Picabia, as each track peals off. The last title, Portrait of Jan and Moon with Stars is one of Nelson's best ever tracks - a gorgeous ambient construct which rivals Eno's self-made music for airports, but has none of the austerity which clings to the self-conscious avante garde; rather, it is a beautiful sound tapestry that transports you into a metaphysical domain. Although only about 30mins in length, Savage Gestures is sure to leave a lasting impression upon the soul.

This is a wonderful album. Michael Allen Harrison plays a lovely piano. I wish he would do more of the old classics like this one for I sure would be happy to buy one.
Michael Allen Harrison's "A Tribute to Gershwin and Friends" is by no means a new album, but it's new to me, and what a killer! I had the opportunity to meet Harrison in Portland, OR last year and to see him play live. He's one of a handful of pianists so extraordinarily gifted that he seems to be the most at home with the piano at his fingertips, making the most difficult passages look like child's play. That doesn't mean that this album is showy or full of bravado. The clarity of Harrison's playing and the depth of emotion conveyed is head and shoulders above the majority of pianists out there (Michael Dulin and Philip Aaberg come to mind as players with this kind of pianism. Awesome, all three!!!) "Gershwin and Friends" is made up of thirteen compositions that harken back to a more innocent era when music was more relaxed and less competitive. Six of the songs were composed by George Gershwin, two are original Harrison pieces, and the others are standards that were composed at about the same time as the Gershwin pieces. Most are piano solos, but a few of the tracks include bass and/or guitar. For the most part, this is a quiet, soulful recording, but there are some upbeat and lively moments as well.

All of the tracks on this album are wonderful, but I have some favorites. The CD opens with a sultry "Our Love Is Here to Stay." With just piano and acoustic bass, this is the perfect slow dance. "God Bless the Child" is dark and slinky in an easy, sensual style. Bass, electric guitar and very light percussion enhance the mood. Yum! "Autumn Leaves" has been one of my favorite songs since I was a kid, and Harrison's arrangement does not disappoint. Flowing and elegant, the heartbreaking melody touches deep within. And then there's "Summertime," my all-time favorite Gershwin piece. Dark and bluesy for a couple of verses, the last minute or so is more uptempo and improvised - an incredible arrangement! "Swanee" begins in a ballad style that is dark and slow and develops into the melody most of us are familiar with in a whimsical, nostalgic style; it ends with a phrase from Stephen Foster's "Old Folks At Home" - a cute touch! "My Funny Valentine," another favorite standard of mine, closes the album with an enchanting love song full of easy grace and tenderness.

What a great album! Michael Allen Harrison has inspired me to pull out some of my Gershwin piano books and dust them off, but I can only dream of playing this music like him! Very highly recommended!
It is the perfect music to play when relaxing by the fire. Very soothing, remarkable piano... Truly a delight to listen to!

Luis Bunuel's major theme in this film is showing his dislike
for the 'bourgeois' segment of society. A similar theme was
shown about 5 years after "Discreet Charm"'s premiere, although
more playfully, in Bunuel's "That Obscure Object of Desire."
In what seems to be a dreamlike scene in "Discreet Charm",
a group of defenseless 'bourgeois' friends is machine gunned
without reason. Did the director think the friends
deserved the punishment?
"The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie" unfolds with the absurd logic of a recurrent dream, and since the DVD has been beautifully restored, one is able to dream the dream in vivid color: Elegantly dressed guests arrive for a dinner party only to have the hostess inform them that they have arrived on the wrong night; thus, they keep making appointments for dinners that are continually interrupted for one reason or another--all of the reasons being as patently ridiculous as are the characters: a bishop, who arrives at the house and asks to be hired as a gardener, and then relates the story of his macabre childhood; a soldier, who arrives at a restaurant (that has run out of tea and coffee), asks to join the ladies, whom he has never met before, and relates the story of his macabre childhood; a General, who arrives with his platoon a day early at the same house with the same hostess in time for dinner, and then, after the General invites a Private to relate the story of his macabre dream to the hosts and the invited guests (who listen attentively), both General and platoon depart for maneuvers (but not before inviting all the guests to his house for dinner, where even more macabre events unfold.). Thus, the dreams contain dreams within dreams within dreams within dreams within dreams et cetera ad absurdum.

This film is for anyone who has ever had recurrent nightmares of waiting for a bus on the wrong corner; of being about to take a test only to discover that one has studied the wrong subject; of being about give a lecture only to discover that one has forgotten the notes; or of performing on stage with a mouth stuffed with peanut-butter when one's cue is coming up. All the absurd commonplaces that make perfect sense when one is dreaming. And much of the "discreet charm" of the bourgeois characters in this film derives from the fact that one is dreaming their nightmares and not one's own.
This is arguably Buñuel's best film. Described as "a complex, shifting, virtually plotless web of dreams within dreams within dreams," Luis Buñuel's 1972 Academy Award winning surrealist film, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie) chronicles five derailed dinner parties of a group of three affluent Parisian couples, intermixed with four dreams dreamt by different characters. The sextet of friends includes Rafael Acosta (Fernando Rey), François Thévenot (Paul Frankeur), Simone Thévenot (Delphine Seyrig), Florence (Bulle Ogier), Alice Sénéchal (Stéphane Audran), andHenri Sénéchal (Jean-Pierre Cassel). Although they constantly arrive for dinner parties, they never actually eat. Whether they arrive on the wrong night, or there's a corpse in the next room, their plans are always thwarted by some absurd complication. Meanwhile, secrets involving adultery, perversions, boredom, hypocrisies, military maneuvers, and drug smuggling are revealed beneath the surface of their "polite," bourgeois facade. Buñuel breaks all the narrative rules in this film. Dreams interrupt scenes and unpredictabile surreal twists interrupt the film's narrative in a way that might be described as Monty Python at its most extreme. While other filmmakers are retired at age 72, Buñuel was at his charming best.

Criterion's two-disc edition of this masterpiece includes a new high-definition film transfer, El náufrago de la calle de Providencia (The Castaway on the Street of Providence, 1970): a 24-minute documentary homage to Buñuel by his friends Arturo Ripstein and Rafael Castanedo, A propósito de Buñuel (Speaking of Buñuel, 2000): a new 98-minute documentary on the life and work of Buñuel by Jose Luis López-Linares and Javier Rioyo, the original theatrical trailer, and new and improved English subtitles. Highly recommended, must-see cinema.

One of the Spanish master's funniest films, the Oscar-winning "Charm" gleefully savages the manners and mores of the upper crust, employing bizarre plotlines and fanciful farce to attack the well-heeled scions of respectable society as vain, decadent, elitist, and thoroughly amoral. Rey, Seyrig, and New Wave icon Ogier head the stellar ensemble cast, with Julien Bertheau standing out as a pompous, not-so-holy bishop. Buñuel's dream-within-a-dream sequences, which involve ghosts, terrorists, and sundry other characters, are simply brilliant, and bring this sublime, extended joke to the verge of divine absurdity.

There are not many artists who could tell the same joke over and over again and get away with it creating the film as brilliant, funny, absurd, witty, and clever as Buñuel's "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie", 1972. The story of six friends who try to arrange and have a nice dinner together but cannot complete (or even start) their meal does not sound very exiting but wait until you watch this comedy. I've always known how interesting surrealism is but I never thought how funny it could be. I've seen the film four or five times - it only gets better with each viewing. Highly recommended.

What can be more enjoyable then a meal among friends and family? Masterfully balancing the dichotomy of class vs. debauchery Buñuel delivers a ripping critique of the upper class. (worst martial art movie ever (it doesnt deserve a star if i have other ratings))

I saw two movies in 1994. There is no question in my mind: Double Dragon>Schindler's List. BAR NONE.
After the disaster that had been the "Super Mario Bros." movie, "Double Dragon" had the chance to set future game-to-video adaptations on the right track. It certainly seemed simple enough: with a slew of "action heroes" left over from the `80s and a premise that was all about kicking butt, where could it go wrong?
Well, let me count the ways in which it became just another casualty of the `adaptation wars'...

In the movie, Los Angeles has been ripped apart by an earthquake, leaving the city a deadly fighting ground for various gangs and a struggling police force. Evil billionaire Koga Shuko (Robert Patrick, "Terminator 2") plans to utilize an ancient and magical artefact known as the Double Dragon to empower himself so he can take over the city. One half is easily obtained...but the other is in the hands of karate-practicing brothers Jimmy (Mark Dacasos, "Brotherhood of the Wolf") and Billy Lee (Scott Wolf, "The Nine"), who must add escaping from Shuko's henchmen to their list of tournament-losing, gang-fleeing worries.

I won't even get into how much the film's tone and storyline deviates from the video games, but I'll warn that the film's age-appeal stops at 10. Think of it as "Power Rangers" without the costumes and the giant robots: Jimmy and Billy spend less time fighting than they do running and cracking bad jokes, and when they do fight, it's against slobbering gang members and a guy in the worst monster costume I've ever seen. While the adventure aspects of the film are decently done for any preteen audience, things like acting and having a decent script ("I just want total domination of one major American city! Is that too much to ask?!") are best left ignored by those of us who know better.

In the film's defence, the fight choreographer apparently took a page out of Jackie Chan's playbook and had the fights incorporate the environment more than most other action films back then did - using a street cone as a weapon, stopping an attacker with a swinging car door, etc. In addition, Mark Dacasos' legitimate talent for martial arts shows: though there's no decent one-on-one showdown that lets him shine, his skill and athleticism are apparent even before he became a big-time player.
Scott Wolf, however, is less of a worker. The guy was never a martial artist to begin with and it doesn't look like he had any training for the film: most of his moves consist of sloppy-looking kicks that any kid in front of a TV can do, shoving, and...well, running.

As an adaptation, it's unfaithful, and as an action movie, it's kind of lame; throw in Shuko's ridiculous hairstyle and the knowledge that it was directed by a man who had before (and since) only directed pop concerts and video packages, and you've got yourself a film that's easy to hate. Gamers, put it out of your minds - this one is lost to oblivion.
This is the movie world's LL Cool J!!!!
If it weren't for Mac and Me, I'd say this movie was the greatest of all time!!!

Most video game based movies are bombs and this one stands out above some of the ones that cames before it. Mark Darascos is a great martial-artist and this film gives just a taste of what he can do.

I saw this movie as a child, many years ago, and loved it. Unfortunately, over the years, I forgot the title and somehow got it mixed up with "The Disorderly Orderly", starring Jerry Lewis. Decades later, I finally located it on Amazon. It was very expensive, especially for an old black-and-white movie (and with the shipping cost to New Zealand), but if you enjoy Norman Wisdom's work as much as I do, it is worth the price.

It tells the story of Norman Pitkin (Wisdom), a butcher's assistant who causes havoc wherever he goes. Banned from the hospital where he was visiting his boss, he ends up in the children's ward, where he is the only one who can get through to a young, orphaned girl who is in shock. He promises to visit her again, and has to go through all sorts of subterfuge, posing as a doctor, a nurse, a patient, a dental student, a St John's Ambulance officer and a trombonist to get back into the hospital to keep his promise. There is heaps of chaos and hilarious slapstick comedy, as well as a wonderfully heart-warming story of selfless love.

An extra bonus on the DVD is a selection of Norman Wisdom's singing performances (audio only, unfortunately, but still excellent added value for Norman's fans).
After appearing on three early BBC-TV sitcoms, Norman Wisdom made a string of comedies for the Rank Organsation. A STITCH IN TIME is one of the later pictures. Here, a hospital visit after a butcher shop accident fnds Norman creating his usual chaos. He also tries to help a child who hasn't spoken since her folks died in a plane crash.

Fans of Sir Norman will also enjoy TELEVISTA's edition of his 1956 comedy, UP IN THE WORLD.

This is a great Basil Rathbone performance. The DVD by Alpha leaves much to be desired. The print shows its wear, but is acceptable and at least the print is complete. It will have to do until something better comes along.
I'm reviewing the Alpha DVD Edition of this film, the three stars I gave the product are due to the bad quality of the transfer, because I'd given the film alone, four and half stars. With Alpha's DVD Editions, you either have the luck of getting decent copies (sometimes even very good ones like "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers") or awful ones, like this one in particular.

The film is based upon a Play of an Agatha Christie Story and is superbly directed by Rowland V.Lee, with an almost complete English Cast, except for Ms. Harding. The plot is quite simple and suspenseful: a working girl wins a huge amount of money in the Lottery and meets a mysterious, attractive man.

It was filmed in 1937, when the leading actress' stardom (Ann Harding) had already waned in the United States (after being one of the Top Stars during the Early Sound Era). Nonetheless, her acting ability and talent are obvious as well as her charm and grace. Basil Rathbone is excellent too as the mysterious man who arrives into her life, giving a skilled performance.

The rest of the supporting cast is very good too and the sets and the film's atmosphere give the proper background to this entertaining story. In spite of the bad quality of the transfer, I could enjoy the film's plot completely, because it's so absorbing and well paced, that you forget about the "technical flaws" of the copy.

If you liked Robert Montgomery's "Night Must Fall", this one's for you. 'Til now Alpha's is the only DVD Edition available of this film.

I got these as an activity for my daughter's Twilight party. I attached a Twilight quote to one of them ("You are my life now") and hid them around the "room". The mixed group of late teens had fun trying to find the rings and then identified how many times they would get married based on how many rings they found. The person who found the ring with the quote got a prize (Twilight soundtrack). This item was perfect for my purposes. It arrived in plenty of time for the party. Very happy with my purchase!
The product itself is great.
I like how the extendable part is on top because when its on the bottom its rather annoying.
I used it for a twilight birthday party and it really worked out because it fit mostly everybody (not the guys).
My fingers are stubby(ring size 8) so i was stoked that it actually fit my fingers.
And it also worked fine for anyother guest with ring size 5 (though it worked better on her thumb).
Its cute, a little bit better then in the vending machine.
I like it.

The decal does not cover the touch screen. You will want a screen protector for that. I have the same brand of decal on my wii and it has lasted well. It took forever for me to get the decal on properly. Luckily the adhesive is forgiving. It looks really nice on my phone (now that I have spent 20 min. getting it all straight) and my fiance and I can now tell our phones apart. I really don't like the wallpaper. I can't figure out how to get it from my email to my phone.

I have both the iPhone 3G and the original iPhone.

On the iPhone 3G the front decal worked ok, there was about 1/16" gap that it didn't cover. The back decal is confusing ... I don't see how a flat decal can ever work on a curved surface. All the decal does is bubble up on the corner. I was disappointed with the fit and I would not recommend it.

I then tried the decal on my original iPhone. I found the front decal was too large and hung over the edge. I kind of figured it would but the description said "3G iphone" so I don't know if it was intended for the original iphone or not. The back decal didn't work for the same reasons mentioned above.

Cool idea but it just doesn't work ... the bad part is since they say it is used they will not allow me to return the product. Yet the back decal will never work, go figure :(

I constantly get compliments on this skin for my iPhone, and especially love the matching wallpaper for your idle screen that comes with it.

It's basically contact paper for your phone. It looks much cooler in the picture but it isn't really.
I love this product. It adds a personal touch to my iphone which i think before looks "blah" and now it looks "tada!" the matching wallpaper that you can download from the seller was also a good idea.

This charm is much cuter than it looks. It was well worth the money we paid to now have access to the Charm Forest on Webkinz World. I think of it as buying an ongoing online computer game that you can play everyday and you happen to get a free charm. It's a good deal if your child enjoys computers and fantasy. Our daughter is 3 and a half and we play webkinz with her as a family.

Had no idea this book was about 2 inches by 2 inches. Laughed when I got it, so not what I was hoping for, but it's kinda cool at the same time since it's so small. The pictures are from more obscure/racy, often adult pulp magazines.
nice details and design, good content for people who enjoy pin-up / vintage ( I'm not an expert on those topics so please do not go by my review if you are looking for rare vintage stuff etc ), I bought this item to be able to complete a $100 shopping amount to classify for free shipping , so I quickly look at the book description, when I got the package I realized I bought a miniature , it is the smallest book on my house ..
I bought it as a gag gift, so I got what I ordered. I am married to "Bad Girl" Olga Khanukova, the young lady who modeled for the cover of Pulp Graffiti Volume I. I bought this book as a gag gift for her, but I guess the joke is on me. My magnifying glass is larger than this book. I still plan to give it to Olga, and I still think she will get a kick out of it. Maybe I'll buy a very small coffee table to set it on and we can laugh even harder.

I wish the book were larger, then it would have real value. Anyone else will probably feel cheated if they buy this book for its literary value. It would be nice if it were more clearly labeled by an on line bookseller, but I don't see that as a reason to give the author a bad review.
If you read the fine print...you will find that this tiny little book is way overpriced unless it sells for a dollar. That's what the sticker price of the one sent to me said the purchase price was. But silly me, didn't read the small print, and paid way too much for it. A "cute" little book, but a mere token of the value expressed by the seller. Will probably relist it soon on ebay.
This nice little book fits in the palm of your hand. It's interesting, but more of a novelty item than anything else.

I guess I expected this book to be funnier than it is because of the book jacket. Interesting, but not funny.
If you are a fan of Bill Geist's humor on CBS's Sunday Morning TV show, you will enjoy his trip down memory lane. Not only has Bill found people and events documenting off-beat human creativity (ie, the tiny town 2 blocks long where the "parade" stands still and the spectators circle around it), he has rewarded us with his keen observations of human behavior. Many of these small towns survive only because they are known for a certain wacky celebration. He also gives us insights of the frantic schedule and crummy meals he endures to reward us with those relaxed, funny Sunday Morning reports.Way Off the Road: Discovering the Peculiar Charms of Small Town America
Bill Geist is a traveling man, and has been for more than twenty years. Apparently, he'll go just about anywhere there's something that's whacky, offbeat, downright funny, or even somewhat puzzling, such as the Frozen Dead Guy Festival in Nederland, Colorado. Once there, he always has something funny to say about whatever he thinks is funny, often in an irreverent, oblique, or mystical way.
Best known as the off-road humorist for CBS News Sunday Morning, he is also a widely read author, and his book Way Off the Road details some of his recent adventures. In addition to the aforementioned frozen dead guy, there's The Church of the Holy Barbecue in Huntsville, Texas, and a woman in Wisconsin who makes her living as a portrait photographer, only her subjects are exclusively cows. There's also a festival in Whalan, Minnesota, where the parade stands still and the spectators walk around it. Why, you ask? Because the town is only two blocks long, so if the parade moved, it would be over as soon as it began. You're probably beginning to get the picture of what Bill Geist thinks is funny.
Way Off the Road is light, breezy entertainment, chopped up into small segments perfectly suited to those readers who have only a few minutes at a time to read, whoever they may be. It's not as funny as watching him do his goofy stories on TV, but then, what is?

There are some books that are not, and will never be, classics. Nevertheless, in their own way they have a certain charm and make for enjoyable reading. This particular book will put a smile on your face and even make you laugh a few times as the author explores some of the more unusual, if not bizarre, spots (and people) in the United States. Some reviewers have claimed that Geist looks down at these folks---I strongly disagree. If anything, there is a certain affection for them. Of course, this type of book, and the people in them, will not appeal to New Yorkers, since it deals with "fly over country."
Author Bill Geist is a traveling correspondent for "CBS News Sunday Morning". I haven't watched the show in ages. Perhaps I should as we tend to lose sight of how charming and beguiling Americana can be in the face of strident criticism by those, some home-grown, who tear the country down.

WAY OFF THE ROAD is a compendium of twenty-eight profiles of small town oddities originally offered by Geist on the TV broadcast over the period 1996-2005. Of course, getting there spawns its own set of stories, which are interspersed among the others in four chapters: "Flying There", "Staying There", "Eating There", and "Driving There."

For a retired couple with an RV and time to kill, this book might provide a roadmap for whiling away a year or two on the open road visiting the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church Barbecue (Huntsville, TX), the Watermelon-Seed Spit World Championship (Luling, TX), the Tow Truck Museum and Hall of Fame (Chattanooga, TN), the Boat-In Worship (Syracuse, IN), the Paskowitz Surf Camp (San Onofre, CA), the Frozen Dead Guy Days festival (Nederland, CO), the Sundown Days festival (Hanlontown, IA), or the Figure 8 School Bus Races (Bithlo, FL). Of course, America is also its individual citizens, like cow photographer Kathy DeBruin (New Glarus, WI), Mayor Elsie Eiler (Minowi, NE, population 1), Moonburger chef Helen Tuttle (Moonshine, IL, population 2), or the UFO aficionados Pat and Joe Travis (Rachel, NV).

It almost makes me want to give up the old 9 to 5 right now, load up the wife and unread books in a Winnebago, and set out to see it all. Well, I might have to leave the wife off to do the shopping while getting the windshield windexed by three hookers at Sheri's Ranch (Pahrump, NV).

My only picky-picky quarrel with Geist is the barely adequate photo section, which is four half-pages of snaps not much larger than oversized postage stamps.

For me, the litmus test for any travel essay is its ability to compel me, out of curiosity, to go onto the Web to further research the places written about. In the case of WAY OFF THE ROAD, I remained on-line throughout.

Usually when an author branches out and gives a side character I like their own novel, I'm pleased it means that the author is going to spend more time in a world I enjoy. However in this book. The author didn't stay in the same world of Bronwyn, she created a new world with characters of the same name. None of the facts she established iun the Bronwyn book's played out here. Characters met differently, realtionships were messed up. It is the weirdest thing I have ever seen. I know not all authors have full time fact and plot checkers but all the changes in this book to the Bronwyn world are RIDICULOUS. If she is going to create a new world, ahe should give her characters new names and not try to pass this off as a spin off.
I just have to say, I finally finished "Like a Charm" by Candace Havens. I would have loved to finish it earlier, I bought it right when it came out but life intruded and I like to give good books my full attention. This is one of those books, you know the ones that make you laugh and cry and have epiphanies throughout.
I just want to quote Candace or the character Bronwyn in the book, "when you let go and sort of follow your heart, and don't overthink things too much, life works like a charm. It's when we try to analyze every second of our lives and get too much onto our heads that everything goes to hell." ("Like a Charm, p. 205).
This part, was one of those epiphanies. Every once in awhile you come across something written down, whether it be fiction or non that speaks to you. This book is one of those.
I love the Bronwyn stories and have previously reviewed them but this books shows you a character that you met in those books (it is her stories). I love that Candace took this chance and help the readers learn more about Sweet Texas and its inhabitant. Learning more about the HOT Caleb was a very nice bonus also.

I won't give any real clues about the story except the description on the back of the book.

But now that her high-powered job, along with her five-year plan, have gone right out the window, she's back where she started, staying with her hippie, tofu-obsessed parents-except that somehow she's inherited the local library. At least there's a gorgeous guy in town who seems quite smitten with her. So what if he's got a few secrets up his sleeve? After all, Kira's got her own secrets. Like the dead people who won't stop talking to her. Or the magical books on the shelves. Or the fact that someone who's very much alive seems determined to push her over to the other side.
However, anyone who reads this and has anything bad to say about it, I say read it again and really take in the story and the characters. This one Candace, is a keeper and I want to hear more from "the universal librarian."
A light fun read.
It really felt like an intro to a series with the library being a Portal and all. I would like to see what comes next in this series.
The heroine, Kira, is a high-powered contract attorney who has a mental and physical breakdown when a friend steps off the top of one of Atlanta's high-rises. Her mom, a hippie born too late for the movement, collects her and takes her home to west Texas to recuperate.
I enjoyed the book for what it was, a fun beach read. Looking for something deeper I would go for Garden Spells but Charm was fun for a short read. The only thing I didn't like was that they spoke about magic very little and we saw it even less. This isn't really a book about magic, it's just a side note in the story.
I love this book, once i started reading it I couldn't put it down..
I really hope the story continues in the next book soon.
