I was determined to get a sterling silver and not a plated. I have nothing against silver plated....I wear alot myself. But for this I wanted the SS. I couldn't believe I hadn't checked out Beadaholique because that is where I have bought 99.9% of my jewelry making supplies. I just happened to have a brain cell to fire and checked it out. There it was. The only problem I had, was that I wear a 7.5 bracelet normally because I am slightly fluffy. But I ordered it anyway. It's so beautiful and I have only put 1 bead on it, because that is all I have right now. I sold out. I know I can get a few more on there but doubt I can fill it up. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Awesome) 『Well those who complain about the new release Before the Frost...Until the Freeze probably complain that this album is too mellow as well. Personally it may be my favorite Crowes album, but it's tough for me to choose. This was definitely a departure for the band at the time incorporating some new sounds into their songs. Although some songs are more mellow, they aren't really sappy...well, maybe "Better When You're Not Alone" is pretty sappy but its a catchy song anyway. I love every song on here, but my favorites have to be "Under A Mountain", "Good Friday", "Girl From a Pawnshop", "Bring On, Bring On", "Let Me Share The Ride", and "How Much For Your Wings?". Ok that's like half the songs so you get the idea. If you haven't heard this yet, I'd strongly advise picking it up and giving it some time to grow on you.』
(Where Are All the Reviews?) 『Three Snakes and One Charm - (1996) 12 Tracks **** (48:41)
First of all, before I actually get into reviewing the music on this disc, I have a question: Where the heck are all the reviews? Did Amazon lose them? Currently, there are only 19 listed right now! Every other regular studio release by this band has closer to 50 reviews and a couple have over 100. I can't believe this album is that un-popular?! With only one review in 2008 and 2007, the bulk of the other reviews are over five years old! That is a lot of inactivity. I guess mine will be the only one for 2009 at the rate were going. That's just pitiful. This album deserves better.
OK, Three Snakes and One Charm is not a bad album. Is it as good as the Black Crowes previous couple of albums? Not quite. The quality level is certainly starting to decline, but just slightly. Instead of three or four outstanding songs like on the last two previous albums, Three Snakes really has only one, Good Friday. In my opinion, this album just had way too many mediocre songs. It's still a good over-all listen, I mean come on, this is the Black Crowes. Even their below average songs are better quality than most of the mainstream rock groups "hits", and most of those group's albums have a preponderance of "filler tracks" to make up a whole album. This album might have been more popular if some of the singles actually got some radio air-play! I don't ever remember hearing any of the songs off Three Snakes on the local radio station. That kind of exposure really helps any albums popularity. For example, even though I was living in a different part of the country at the time, the local radio station played practically every song off the Southern Harmony and Musical Companion album. The record companies also contribute to an albums success or failure by supporting it with ad campaigns, release parties, etc. The support (or lack thereof) can also be seen in the packaging of this release. The last two previous albums came with a multi-page CD Booklet containing photos and song lyrics. Three Snakes only has a single gate-fold "booklet" and no lyrics.
Three Snakes and One Charm starts off just like most Black Crowes albums with a couple of "rockers", Under a Mountain and Good Friday. In fact it continues on in an upbeat fashion without slowing down until about half-way thru it when you get to the slower acoustic Girl from a Pawnshop. One thing this album has is plenty of what many refer to as that "dirty guitar" sound (Nebakanezer, Blackberry). Most people have commented that this album had to "Grow on them" or it "took a few more spins than usual to get into it". Nothing wrong with that, there are many really good albums that took me some time to "get into". So there you have it. If you give it chance, you will be rewarded. 』
(A VERY laidback Crowes album. Took some time to grow on me.) 『While I've been a die-hard fan of the Black Crowes since day 1, it took me a long time to like this album. Compared to the first three albums, and especially the follow-up "By Your Side", "Three Snakes and One Charm" is incredibly laidback. It seems strange that this is the same exact line-up that gave us the band's magnum opus "Amorica".
"Laidback" is really the best way I can describe it. There's no shortage of slow numbers here. Even with the few upbeat numbers like "Let Me Share the Ride" (featuring the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, an opener of theirs on tour), "Blackberry" and "One Mirror Too Many", there's still a strange looseness and lax feel to the playing. It's hard to put into words. But as Chris Robinson said in an interview at the time, while "Shake Your Money Maker" might be more of a "Friday night" album, this one is more of a "Sunday afternoon".
I had a real hard time getting into this album when I bought it. It just didn't grab me the way that the others did. I kept returning to it every once in a while, and eventually grew to really love some of the songs. The loud guitar-driven "Nebakanezer" is still one of my favorites, and "How Much For Your Wings" is a beautifully catchy ballad. "Girl from a Pawnshop" has a nice country ballad feel to it.
The rereleased version (which was included in the "Sho 'Nuff" box set and also released separately) includes the two B-sides "Just Say You're Sorry" and "Mellow Down Easy". It also acts as a multi-media CD and contains the video for "Blackberry". Die-hard collectors might be curious to know that there was also a limited edition release as a box of vinyl 45s.
While the Black Crowes were always compared to bands like Rolling Stones and Faces when they started, the truth is that they always had a diverse number of influences, and their sound evolved from album to album. So in retrospect, a change like this wasn't too surprising. One paradox of many Black Crowes fans is that what we want from the Crowes is them doing what THEY themselves want to do, not necessarily what the public wants.』
(The Black Crowes caught the wave) 『This band understands rock n' roll for all it's depth. I truly believe that if they had been a 70's band they would be considered in the same league as The Stones and Skynyrd. Of course, they're much more musically talented than bands such as The Beatles, but that's pretty obvious to anyone who loves bands who actually have the balls to play live rather than just hide behind their celebrity status. I'm so glad they're out there again preaching the doctrine of soulful music. Every album they've ever put out has been a masterpiece and this is no exception.』
(Noisy and annoying!) 『Hmmm, Black Crowes...well... To me, and obviously to a lot of other people, Black Crowes music is very influenced by Rolling Stones but Stones have something that Black Crowes lack - it takes more than pot, attitude and a slobby approach to be a rock and roll band. Of course they managed to perform one or two great numbers every once in a while, but mostly it's rather boring and the vocals can really annoy you. This release includes NO great tune at all, the only decent one is "Just say you're sorry". The rest is awful!
Once I had four Black Crowes albums. First I sold "Amorica", and now is this one "Three snakes..." in the pile for cd's to be sold. That leaves me with "The southern harmony..." and "By your side"...for the moment...』

Top songs are "Life is", "Beautiful World", "Alert", and "Long Way", also known as "African Children." The European version of this album called "African Children" is a bit better, containing a hard to find, yet amazing song "Only Jah and Jah alone" (not to be confused with "Only Jah Alone" from I-space). The guy that said this album is murder music is clearly ignoring songs like "LIFE IS" that says "Life is for us to live..." and many other positive tunes. Yeah, Sizzla has some controversial views but I think people should try not to say what someone can and can't say...Anyways, the African Children version has another amazing song called "Keep in Touch" which this album doesn't have, among a few others...if possible, get that one in addition to this...putting them both together makes it an even better album (20 songs!)』
(Murder Music) 『If you like music that advocates homophobic murder, this one is for you! Sizzla has a number of songs that urge the shooting of gay men and lesbians.』
(Loud again!) 『First, I must credit two songs on this CD. "Alert" is a good high-energy song. "Blessing" is a fun, more traditional reggae song. Having said that, this is another CD where Sizzla disregards the spirit-filled voice we know from CD's such as Black Woman&Child and Freedom Cry. Instead he (again) looks to appeal to the rude-boys and gals with his rough loud voice. The lyrics seemed to have lost the great wisdom that was so apparent in his earlier songs. It now lurks behind his sexual references and less developed expressions of insight. Sorry Sizzla fans but I remember that beautiful (and powerful) voice before the screaming and I wait for it to be resurrected.』
(Michaelangelo.. .. .. Finger Painting) 『Red Alert is certainly not Sizzla Kalonji's best work, but I have to admit, its one that I imagine he probably had the most fun making. It's fairly standard material from a flat out genius. Having gotten the European version of this one (which means that I've had about 2 months to sit with it) I'm continually impressed with the way that the artist can seemingly not even try, and still churn out top material, it amounts to what I'd call a serious amount of determination of Sizzla to get out his message. This album absolutely (like all of his work) bleeds Black Strength! The best song here is the ultra familiar Beautiful World, really really strong tune that is, also love the opener Your Love Is and Life. Dancehall heads are not neglected as the album certainly contains its share. Later in the album appears a tune called Long Way (#13) on which Sizzla spends nearly a minute discussing the important virtues and strengths of Rastafari before launching into a downright beautiful heap of lyrics on which leave the listener with a strong message if he/she truly ingests the material. Also love the fun-sounding Blessing. Overall, as I said, I certainly wouldn't call Red Alert the best that this amazing talent could do, but it encompasses nearly everything that has made Sizzla Kalonji loved by millions around the world over the past 10 years and hated by a few, but if you are truly able to pick up the message here, you'll come to the same conclusion those millions have: Not a stronger messenger exists in music today.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A MARVELOUSLY ENTHRALLING&ENTERTAINING DISC) 『Decca's recently acclaimed recording of Franz Waxman's powerful THE SONG OF TEREZIN certainly whetted the appetite to hear more from a composer whose earlier reputation had rested almost exclusively on numerous Hollywood film scores. Now a much fuller picture of this remarkably gifted musician can be gleamed from Koch International's enthralling collection of original compositions and arrangements.
Of primary interest is"Goyana", a collection of four imaginatively conceived minature sketches for piano, percussion and string orchestra inspired by specific paiantings of Goya, beautifully played by Cristina Ortiz, and the menacing Sinfonietta for strings and timpani whose musical language is close to that of Shostakovich. After this, a frustratingly brief introduction and Scherzo for cello and orchestra provides a tantalizing glimpse of the Cello Concerto that Waxman had hoped to write for Pierre Fournier.
All the arrangements are worth savoring, though the best of all is surely the"Auld Lang Syne"variations - a guaranteed party show stopper in which Waxman brilliantly parodies the styles of Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and the composite composer Shostakofiev. Mark Kaplan dazzling performance of Rumanian Rhapsidy is not to be missed.
No Waxman collection would be complete without the ubiquitous"Carmen"Fantasie composed for Heifetz. Performed here with wonderful dexterity by Rodney Mack in a transcription for trumpet and orchestra, it sounds amazingly convincing, as does the rest of this very appealing release by the Orquestra Sinfonica de Barcelona i National de Catalunya conducted in high style by Lawrence Foster.』

It takes place in 1885, starting in New York City and moving across the pond to England after young Cedric Errol (Little Lord Fauntleroy) is told that he is now a lord and next in line to become Earl of Dorincourt. Cedric and his mother Dearest aren't exactly well-off, but Cedric doesn't want to leave at first, even knowing it will greatly improve their social and financial status, because of how attached he is to the city, how much he wants to become President when he grows up, so he can help the less fortunate, the horrible things he's been told earls do, and how devoted he is to his three closest friends, Hobbs, a storekeeper, Mrs. McGinty, who sells apples, and Dick, who blackens boots.
After moving to England, Cedric, now Lord Fauntleroy, is rather upset at how his mother is forced to live in a cabin outside of the main estate instead of there in the castle with him and his grandfather, the Earl of Dorincourt. "Grandfather Earl," as he calls him, never approved of the relationship Dearest and Cedric's father had, and originally didn't think very highly of Cedric himself either, but quickly lets down his reserve and finds himself incredibly charmed by his grandson. Cedric doesn't want to be the type of earl he's heard about back home, however, and uses his power and new position to help the less fortunate, like he would have done if he had become President when he was older. Things seem to be going swimmingly when all of a sudden it appears as though there might be another heir, with a more legitimate claim, which threatens to upturn the happy secure new life Cedric has made for himself. His friends back home, however, are positive this cannot be, and do some research to try to right things before it might be too late.
This is really a charming story, and also serves as wholesome family entertainment, despite the old-fashioned story (it does take place in the nineteenth century, and really reflects that different society and era), though it does seem a bit chatty at times for a silent film. That is to be expected, though, seeing as it was based on a book and not just created solely or primarily for the screen. The musical score is also very lovely, and the special effects are really something. Dual roles had been played before, but not the same way you see here, such as when Cedric kisses his mother. This was before they had computers; they had to create all of these special effects, seemingly primitive today, without help from high-tech machines. Although I have to agree that you can't really forget that Cedric is being played by a woman, as much as she really gets into the role and acts like a little boy. It was one thing for Mary Pickford to play little girls and teenagers, but in this role you never really forget that she's actually a woman and not a little boy, as good as she is at it. She just looks too pretty, too womanly, for people to completely suspend disbelief and after awhile just lose track of the fact that she is in fact a woman.』
(Mary was a little boy) 『Little Lord Fauntleroy is an enjoyable Mary Pickford film. It is unusual not so much because she plays two roles, she had done that already in Stella Maris, but because she plays a boy. The story, adapted from Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic of a young American boy going to England to claim his inheritance, is well told with lots of humour and sentiment. Pickford does well in her two roles of mother and son and the way she interacts with herself on screen is a delight to watch, especially when one knows that these special effects were all done in the camera. Her acting in the part of Cedric can hardly be faulted. She throws herself, sometimes literally, into the part and does everything possible to transform herself into a little boy, but she is never truly convincing. This is not really the fault of her acting. Her mannerisms, her way of walking, her fights are all boyish, but she always looks just like Mary Pickford. In the end it has to be said that while Mary could transform herself into a little girl years younger than herself, she just could not make herself look like a little boy. She's far too beautiful and has too many curls. She remains, as always, the girl with the curls.
The black and white print on the Milestone DVD is pretty good. It seems to be complete and while there are quite a lot of scratches, this wear and tear is never really distracting. The image is clear and bright with a good amount of detail. I was generally pleased with how the film looks. The DVD has a good orchestral score by Nigel Holton, well played and appropriate to the mood of the film. As extras there are two photo galleries. Little Lord Fauntleroy may not be one of Pickford's very best films, but once you get used to Mary as a little boy, it becomes a lot of fun and essential viewing for her fans. 』
(A delightful and ever-popular classic) 『You can't go too wrong with a popular and much liked story like "Little Lord Fauntleroy" - the poor boy growing up in 19th century New York who learns he is heir to an earldom in England, and whose childlike charm and good-naturedness softens the heart of his embittered and grumpy grandfather. And who better to play the role than Mary Pickford who won the title of "America's Sweetheart" for her popular and pleasing personality, her impressive acting skills and roles that appeal to everyone. In "Little Lord Fauntleroy", Mary showcases her brilliant talent for playing children - both girls and boys - as well as her versatility by also playing the role of the little lord's mother. The camera work for these scenes - mother and little lord together - is perfect, and overall this film is faultless with sharp, clear picture quality and a most beautiful orchestral score perfectly matched to the film. The scenes of the old English castle, village and surroundings are also perfect and a pleasure to behold, but above all it's Mary Pickford's charming and charismatic portrayal of the unassuming and loving Lord Fauntleroy that makes this film a real winner. Her expressive pantomime skills really bring the role of the young Lord come to life, and you won't mind one bit that she looks much more like a girl than a young boy. Next to "Stella Maris" in which she also plays dual roles very impressively, this is the best Pickford film I've seen so far, and I'm hoping that the other Pickford releases that Milestone Films has planned for later this year will be similarly enjoyable. There are slide shows of stills and other memorabilia on this DVD as well, making it an excellent Mary Pickford edition, and one that will surely appeal to many viewers.』
(The Ideal Introduction To Mary Pickford.) 『The 1921 version of LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY was one of Mary Pickford's biggest hits and it's easy to see why. It features her in a dual role as the little lord and his mother giving her the opportunity to showcase her acting talent in two very different roles as well as letting us see the two types of parts she would play for the rest of her career. While split-screen roles had been done many times before (Pickford even did it in 1918's STELLA MARIS) seldom has it been done as well as it is here. Not only are the double exposures perfect but the perspectives used really highlight the difference between child and adult.
Mary was one of the most powerful people in Hollywood at that time and she always worked with the best technicians available. The sets are stunning, the lighting equally memorable and Charles Rosher's cinematography is in a class by itself. The direction is credited to Alfred E.Green and Mary's brother Jack (according to Mary he was the inspiration for her portrayal of Fauntleroy) but you can be sure that she did a lot of it herself without credit. Claude Gillingswater as the old Earl of Dorincourt gives a marvelous performance every bit the equal of C. Aubrey Smith and Alec Guiness in later versions. As wonderful as Mary's child performance is, I never once thought of her as a boy (I'm sure audiences in 1921 didn't either) but she definitely was the character of Fauntleroy so it really doesn't matter. Her work as the mother is just as good showing that she could play adult roles when she gave herself the opportunity.
Sadly it is that aspect of her acting which has been forgotten over the years. Milestone's release this year of several Pickford films in restored editions to go along with those already available should help to rectify this oversight and return Pickford to her rightful place as one of the silent screen's top performers and not just "Little Mary", the good little girl caricature that most people think of her as today.

White was a fun, fictional story about a pig named Wilbur who was saved lots of times from the threat of death. Because Wilbur was the runt, his owner was going to kill him. Fern the farmer's daughter, cleverly stopped her dad and took care of Wilbur. Later, Wilbur moved to her Uncle's house where he met a spider named Charlotte. Charlotte also saved him when the Uncle was going to kill him to eat. My favorite part happened when Fern's family went to the fair, because the kids explored by themselves and all the people adored Wilbur. All Wilbur's animal friends worked together to help him become the prize pig at the fair, which would save his life. The theme of this book is never giving up. When the Uncle was going to kill him, Charlotte never gave up. She kept looking for ways to save him. I used the Paces PAidiea study guide for Charlotte's Web as I studied this book. The study guide includes elements like vocabulary, homework items and journal entries. The homework items showed that even though this is a fictional book, it is full of facts on spiders. I especially liked drawing a comic strip of the spider's process of catching a fly. Using the Paces study guide for Charlotte's Web enhanced my understanding and made it more enjoyable. I recommend reading Charlotte's Web along with the Paces study guide. 』
(Good Story) 『Having a dual form of dyslexia I did not learn to read until later in life. Thus I never read children's books while a child. Maybe that is why I read so many still today. I read this as part of a children's literature course in university.
It is an interesting book, about friendship, commitment, compassion, change and death. As such it deals with a lot of the big questions of life in ways a child can grasp.
For me the most moving part was when Wilber confessed to Charlotte that he did not like the thought of her as a blood sucker, towards the end of her life. Only true friends can be that open and honest.
The book is a powerful tale of true friendship and how our close friends can transform not only us but those around us.

This delightful tale chronicles the special friendship which is extended to him by a talented gray spider named Charlotte, who undertakes as her personal mission to save the life of the gentle young pig. Obviously she has to deceive the Zuckermans into believing that their pig is too remarkable to kill. Because she is such an excellent writer, she uses her web to advertise Wilbur's best features-which is considered a miracle. Meanwhile Fern sits quietly in the barn and listens to all the animals' conversation, though she does not participate. Naturally her mother is worried about this tendency to prefer animals to her peers. Revealing many human characteristics, the animals work together (or not), boys will be boys, until the final farewell. Wilbur is not the only one to shed tears at the spider's brief life cycle, but hope is renewed each spring. This is a wonderful read-aloud story, for children of all ages.

There was about 300 hundred spiders, but all of them started to float away. It is more directed to the advanced practitioner who can understand the hidden references or in fact, for anyone who has an interest in the occult and poetic literature. I can see how this well-wriiten book can speak to people with diverse interests in this genre. I am a practicing witch myself and I must say it's not really a 'wiccan' book; as it states it is a book of charms and spells which can be incorporated into everyday life (to a certain degree). The text is written in very olde English, but I think this is the plan of the author Valerie Worth. As it states in the prefix, she didn't write the book so the rituals could be practiced as such, but so that they could be read and respected in the honour of tradition. Moreover, I think she directed this to the reader more than the practitioner, so one can use their imagination and interpret the old ways for themselves. I, myself, would never practice from this book as there are so mny simpler ways nowadays to use witchcraft to benefit oneself. I might use one of the amulets for self-power, but would never directly spell-craft. All in all, Valerie Worth portrays traditon in a poetic sense and delivers stories as well as practices. This is a great read whatever your beliefs, in order to get into the heads of many diverse practitioners of Valerie's time and how the culture was understood and used throughout the spiritual year.』
