Charm City Devils play raw, unpretentious party rock that owes a lot (everything really) to the godfathers of the genre - AC/DC. The fact that they call their 2009 debut album Let's Rock n' Roll says everything about what to expect when you spin it. It rocks, it's fun, and you don't have to think too hard when you're listening to it.
I'd probably be a little more excited about Charm City Devils if Australian rockers Airbourne hadn't beaten them to the punch early last year with Runnin' Wild, and of course AC/DC's own Black Ice kind of set the bar high for this kind of rock. Still, the world - and the current state of modern rock - can definitely use more of this kind of music.
I'll keep the recommendation simple. If you like to rock, get yourself a copy of Let's Rock n' Roll.』

I have all AC/DC's albums, and in my humble opinion, I think Charm City Devils has a more updated sound, and at times, a heavier sound. Being compared to AC/DC is a compliment for any band, but if you aren't a fan of AC/DC, don't let that stop you from getting this. The vocals are awesome, the musicmanship is amazing... Charm City Devils is going to be the suprise hit of Crüefest II, I promise!

My husband has been telling me for over 20 years about Burl Ives singing Ghost Riders in the Sky, but I didn't pay much attention. I mean, I have heard that song by other artists before, and it didn't impress me. Then finally, one day I was trying to think of some little gift for him to show that I love him so much, and this song came to mind. I went on Amazon, typed in the song and artist, and there it was. Clicked "Buy It Now", and promptly forgot about it. In short order, there it was in the mailbox, and hubby out of town. I opened it (remember, it was bought as a present for HIM), and just sat and smiled and smiled and smiled as I listened. The Riders In the Sky brought tears to my eyes. I have heard that song before, but never like this version!! Every song is a feast to the ears. Pure listening pleasure. I suspect I will have to order my own since we have separate offices!!!』
(Finally a great Burl Ives compilation!) 『Burl fans have waited years for a quality CD which includes most of his great songs. Though this compilation omits a few of his treasures, it's still the best Greatest Hits package out there. If you own only one Burl Ives album, then make it this one. Unfortunately, current marketers rehash many of Ives' worst songs, the ones geared towards small children, basically novelty songs. Unfortunately, there are a couple of these clunkers of this album, but you can easily skip over those.
Most of this is an adult album with some of the most common-sense and beautiful singing you will ever hear. Many of the cuts were recorded in 1960 with just Burl, his guitar and a few special effects. The songs are American standards and Burl's interpretation is marvelous throughout. His penetrating, unique voice will send shivers down your spine with his rendition of Riders in the Sky. There are some curious omissions, like Mule Train, John Henry and Lindy Lou. You can buy"Wayfaring Stranger"for those gems.
Ives is a master at singing these songs and this is a honest, stripped-down, unadorned masterpiece. They don't make music like this anymore, and as far as this genre goes, this is as good as it gets.』

Tis a shame, becuase I think this is the best Crowes album yet. It doesn't get more free-flowing and more beatiful than this. On this album, the Crowes get a little more versatile and a little softer than previous releases. While Amorica was loud and harsh, this album is more laid-back and easy going. Right from the get go, Under A Mountain takes a while to get under your skin, but when it does, it's quite amazing. Good Friday sets the "Sunday Afternoon" vibe with lap steel, stinging harmonica, and banjo, a bit reminescent of Harvest-era Neil Young. Of course, they haven't forgotten how to rock on this album, as it contains some of the best bluesy-based southern rock the band has ever created. Share The Ride plows on with a Bo Diddley-type groove, One Mirror Too Many and Evil Eye throw Beatles-psychedelia into their tapestry, and (Only) Halfway To Everywhere and Blackberry bring in a Sly and the Family Stone funkness to the mix. There's also some beautiful uplifting balladry, whether it's the Zeppelin-esque Bring On, Bring On or the sheer hippie beauty of How Much For Your Wings? These guys are all over the place on this album. It's a shame it got terrible reviews, as it is a real peak in the band's canon and creativity. They wouldn't shine like this for a long time (Lions comes a bit close, and Warpaint only works half the time). Get it if you're a true Crowes fan and a true believer of rock and roll.』

I don't find Dolphina's references to religion, chakras, or any of the other less-than-commercial ideologies to be detrimental - more her personal view of the inner workings of the dance. I enjoyed it, and found it to be well planned and beautifully presented. Some of the production values - sound, and camera angles, could have been better... (sometimes you can't see her feet, for a move, sometimes the crashing ocean makes her words difficult to hear), but overall I found it to be an excellent value, an enjoyable session, and probably a lot more akin to the dances of our ancient mothers, in character, than some of the Raqs Sharqi instructionals structured in discipline like a modern ballet class.

John Waters takes a satirical swipe at the bubble-headed Art world in this low-profile entry, which adheres closely to the template established in his earlier 'mainstream' works (HAIRSPRAY, CRY-BABY, etc.). Waters' own screenplay includes a wide assortment of eccentric characters, engaged in an uneasy truce with conservative doomsayers who cluck loudly from the sidelines, and he paints the mix in vivid colors, providing a unique visual backdrop for cartoon-like performances which teeter precariously on the brink of caricature.

(John waters down his earlier work in a futile attempt to make it more palatable) 『Pecker (Edward Furlong) is a naive artist who likes to take pictures of his family and friends in Baltimore. His name is derived from the fact that as a child he pecked at his food. He works at a sandwich shop, and is excited about having his first exhibition. It is a very amateur affair, but through some fluke he is discovered. Pecker's out-of-focus snapshots are being compared to Diane Arbus, but with empathy, and his work is sought by the New York Art Elite. Gallery owner Rorey Wheeler (Lili Taylor) is especially taken with the new artiste on the block, and attempts to lure him from his girlfriend, Shelley (Christina Ricci), who is too busy enforcing nazi-like rules at her laundrymat to notice at first.
Film maker John Waters (Pink Flamingoes, Hairspray, Polyester, Cry Baby, etc.) takes aim at New York elitists (he is from Baltimore), art snobs, censorship, and the unintended consequences of fame on an artist and their friends and relations (who might serve as raw material or inspiration); but unfortunately, nothing sticks. Best moment was at Pecker's 2nd exhibition when he temporarity turns the tables on the art snobs, who cry out "Here's to the end of Irony!" before realising the show is mocking them. Or did I dream that? I borrowed Pecker from the local library and had to return it before I could watch a second time to verify. Waters' film, Pecker is really just a gallery of grotesques, but without the empathy of a Diane Arbus.
Furlong and Ricci are two prime examples of child actors who met with early success, but while Furlong may have been jinxed, possibly by Pecker, Ricci seems able to bounce freely between family fare (Casper, That Darn Cat, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Speed Racer) and edgier fare (The Opposite of Sex, The Ice Storm, Black Snake Moan, Prozac Nation, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas)--sometimes even within the same film (Little Red Riding Hood, The Addams Family, Addams Family Values).

The film follows Tom, the adopted son of a British squire. He's a lady-charmer of sorts, planting his seed wherever he may lie and loving every minute of it. When Tom falls for the beautiful Sophie, the daughter of a neighboring squire, things begin to heat up for Tom. Jealousies within the family cause Tom to eventual flee only to get himself in more and more trouble. He's a kindhearted and well intentioned young man who just doesn't know when to stop.
`Tom Jones' is a very funny movie that sports a stellar cast of comedic performances, as well as some touching and sincere ones. Albert Finney received his first of many Oscar nominations for this film, and he was definitely deserving (it was such a good year in this category). He is charming and witty, enough so to make even Tom's most reprehensible of actions forgeable. High Griffiths and Edith Evans ham it up in their roles, providing an abundance of comic relief, and Susannah York is stunning and beautifully tempered as Sophie.
There isn't a sore spot to be found within the acting at all.
The script is also delightfully written, engaging and funny throughout, sporting some very memorable moments and some intriguing character development. I loved the voice over narration, which provided the film with a literary feel that complemented its comedic tone. It is very well constructed and wonderfully put directed.
The fact remains that while I cannot find a single flaw I just cannot name it the best of the year. I think when you consider the films that were provided to us in 1963 `Tom Jones' kind of falls towards the middle of the list. Films like `Hud' or `This Sporting Life' were much stronger works and much more poignant and influential. `8½' is another example of a film that is much smarter and much more technically proficient than `Tom Jones'. This film is splendid and entertaining but its well does not run as deep as some of the years other offerings. Top ten maybe (I'd give it an A-), but not top five and definitely not numberone.
Oh well, it is till a wonderful film and one that I will continue to watch and enjoy for years to come.』

The corn-based Chocolate Lucky Charms cereal has a richer chocolate taste that Count Chocula and stays crispier in milk- right down to your last bite!
