My favorite use for this chain is to hang a briolette or other bead from each of the central small links. You can make a really beautiful necklace, bracelet or anklet this way. Make the central bead larger than the others, and you get a pendant effect, with small beads cascading down the sides of the necklace. Another use for this style of chain is to make adjustable length extenders for necklaces and bracelets. Jewelry that is adjustable in length is more saleable - it will fit more of your customers. We recommend 3mm jump rings for linking dangles to the small links.
Measurements: Large links of chain are 8mm long and 3.5mm wide. Small links are approximately 2mm long.
Quantity: Sold by the foot. Order the number of feet of chain that you want.

(Undiscovered gems!)

It was a twisted path that led me to the discovery of Chopin's songs. You probably experienced the same thing. Since Chopin's piano melodies don't lend themselves to vocal interpretation, you're probably wondering if Chopin had what it took to write for the voice. With this recording, you'll be pleasantly shocked to realize that he was a master of the song as well. Nothing gloomy here. Just lots of light, lilting songs with gorgeous, flowing melodies. Why did these disappear? Because the lyrics are in Polish? Because art songs and lieder are neglected these days? Jeremy Siepmann, who wrote the album's liner notes, takes Chopin to task because these songs aren't heavy, profound masterpieces like the German lieder writers wrote. He also objects to Chopin using supposedly"second-rate"poets for the lyrics. Bah! The lyrics are light, in keeping with the atmosphere of the songs. Polish soprano Szmytka gives a splendid performance. Some may feel that her voice doesn't sound light enough, but I think that's due to the nature of the Polish language. Martineau give an excellent accompaniment in typical Chopin piano style. Chopin didn't write a flashy accompaniment. He wrote in a simple, subdued style, with lots of Polish dance rhythms. You marvel at how he blended these rhythms with the flowing vocal melodies. If you're a true Chopin lover, you simply must have these songs! Don't worry if you don't have volumes 1 thru 8 of the series. Though I haven't heard any other recordings to compare this to, I'd say this is a fantastic recording of them. I can't recommend it highly enough!

(short and sweet)

The Charms second effort, So Pretty, shows remarkable growth. The farfisa is still there and the songs are even better, but now with more of an edge, a grittier rocking sound and less of the light "Top down, radio on" pop of their first. Songs like the title cut show singer Ellie Vee is finding her voice. the distinctive farfisa is turned down and Joe Wizdas guitar drives the music this time around. It's a short taste of things to come...

(An essential recording for lovers of Henry Purcell's music.)

I am surprised that this superb product, released in 2004, hasn't attracted any reviews yet. So I will offer a brief one.
This CD contains all of Henry Purcell's secular solo songs, although it does include some works for more than one voice. The CD contains highly informative notes on each the songs and the texts of all 87 songs. The songs are spread amongst the six singers - Barbara Bonney and Susan Gritton, sopranos; James Bowman, alto; Rogers Covey-Crump and Charles Daniels, tenors; Michael George, bass. The accompaniment, from Robert King's The King's Consort, consists of Mark Caudle and Susanna Pell on bass viols, David Miller playing the theorbo and archlute and maestro Robert King on the chamber organ and harpsichord.

The sound of the recording is very fresh, clear and vivid, as they say. It is exemplary of Hyperion's very high standards in that department. The presentation of the CD is very beautiful and tasteful. All in all, a great achievement and a very fine collection.

Purcell's songs range from the introspective ("Music for a while"), to the melancholy ("O Solitude, my sweetest choice!"), to the hedonistic ("Ah, how pleasant 'tis to love"), to the frankly bawdy ("Since the pox, or the plague") and comical ("Love is now become a trade"), to straight out love songs ("Oh, fair Cedaria, hide those eyes"). Purcell was the master of setting the English language to music and I'd say that his only serious rivals are John Dowland and Benjamin Britten.

This recording is one I treasure and it is one of the best Purcell recordings available. I bought it a couple of years after buying Purcell's complete Welcome Songs&Odes by Robert King and The King's Consort, also on Hyperion. Any serious lover of Purcell's music should have both.

I would love to see a complete survey of Purcell's Catches on CD. The lack of a recording of these works seems to represent a serious hole in the modern range of recordings of Purcell's music. The Deller Consort and Pro Cantione Antiqua recorded some of them many years ago. However, no modern recordings are available, as far as I know.

This film was made in 1936. It's a little (no a lot) schmaltzy, and the video is mediocre, but I can't imagine a more poignant last act of La Boheme. Kiepura and Eggerth are wonderful. The audio is adequate, but this film cries out for a Criterion re-mastering.
Before Marta (aka Martha) Eggerth went to star in two Judy Garland pictures For Me and my Gal and Presenting Lily Mars, she starred in musicals in her homeland. Unlike the MGM movies here she plays a sweet girl and not an obnoxious one.
Two singers who aspire to make it in opera meet. The man manages to get to the top of the field while the girl unbeknownst to him is dying. This manages to incorporate a modern day seeting with a similar plot and music of La Boheme. It seems like the subtitles are picked and chosen. But I still give kudos to Allegro for releasing films like these. A year later after this movie Jan Kiepura and Marta married.

More funny than disturbing. Shaye St. John is more disturbing than funny! I recommend you buy both as bookends for Eraserhead. Yeah ok....Animal Charms is a keeper.
