Check the dimensions, 8mm x 11mm. I agree with the other reviewer-this is much larger than the other beads. I placed it in the middle of the others, but several of these placed alternately with smaller sterling bead charms should make a nice bracelet idea. Also, pairs nicely with size of Murano beads.
This bead is larger than some of the others I have purchased through Amazon. It is a nice bead. It doesn't thread onto the Pandora or Biagi bracelet, so it will slide freely.

I ordered this item the first day in April because I bought a new Blackberry and I wanted a protected case for it. When I purchased it, the shipping estimate was to be delivered to me buy April 7th, however I had to wait for this for a long time and got it at the end of April. And to my surprise it was just stickers that you stick to your Blackberry. I was expecting this, nor thinking that stickers would have taken so long to arrive. However they do look good on the phone!.

Like these as they are cute and a good price. However, the first one I used the pin to connect it to shoe ripped off!!!
I can recommend this. The picture you see of this product are the same pieces of decoration you will receive. They have a nice finish, it's not bad quality, they're good so I can recommend it.
My 10 daughter and her friends are caught up in a Crocs frenzy! I use the Croc charms as incentives earned for improved grades&improved swim times and bought this set when I realized that it was cheaper than ordering individual charms!

I experienced absolutely no problems at all. The order arrived when it was supposed to. I was a little worried that some of the charms may have turned out to be duds, but my daughter liked the selection. The charms received were as shown (photos not actual size) There was only one charm she didn't care for - the Spiderman one. She's just not into Spiderman!

If my daughter continues to be a Crocs fan, I would definitely consider buying another selection of charms from this seller.

The clover alone cost me $3.75 + $3.95 shipping with another vendor. This is a great 19 pack deal. Well made and my kids love it...

Only the keepsake (bigger) one is adjustable. You can fit it to three different sizes with snap buttons that aren't very visually noticeable. It is very comfortable. I like it because I have bigger legs. The smaller garter does not adjust, but it seems to stretch more. I have no problem wearing it and it is comfortable. The only thing I don't like is that the keepsake garter has sequins that make it look a little cheap. I almost think that the tossaway garter looks nicer.

This is a classic that has been read by generations of readers. It is the beginning of Laura Ingalls Wilder's tales of frontier life. Set in the "Big Woods" of Wisconsin in the 1870s, the story is told from the point of view of five-year-old Laura, the middle sister of three, who lives with her parents in a log cabin where her father earns his living as a trapper.

Wilder describes life in the 1870s in painstaking detail that keeps the story interesting without ever bogging down the pacing. The story takes the reader through a year in the life of the family, from the harvest and storing of food for the winter, through the Christmas celebrations, and the playful days of summer.

All of the family's work and play is described, with the occasional tall tale from Pa Ingalls, often told with a lesson in mind for the girls. The cycle of the year forms the structure and plot of the story, although the central conflict involves Laura's struggle with her jealous feelings toward her older sister.

There is humor and tenderness spread throughout the story, as well as a constant subtle tension as the reader is reminded of how fragile life on the frontier can be. The family has only themselves to rely on. Neighbors and relatives are distant, and the nearest town is far enough away that they only make one trip to town in a year. The story does not dance around the realities of hunting and raising animals for food. In fact, the first chapter is devoted mostly to the butchering of the family's hog.

Wilder's talent for description makes this an educational story, but her considerable skills as a storyteller give us characters that we care about as they live their lives in the Big Woods.
The book was great and my grandaughter loved it, but the neckless chain was broke inside the book.I had to go buy a new chain the day after christmas.

This book was a good book. It was because I really like Little House movies, but the books describe more my parents say so I tried the book. Also because sometimes when a character says he or she is going to tell a story, they tell the story actually to you from start to finish. If you'd like to know about how it was in the old days this is the book for you!
This book is about lots of things. Lots of things happen in this book it is almost like there are different stories in it. There are so many things that I don't want to give away any. Plus in the book the stories that the parents tell are funny or scary. Also the book has a few pictures in it now and then. Also these books come in big pack so you can have a lot of these books!

One of the problems was that their aunt told Laura and Mary that Mary had prettier curls. The aunt thought Mary had prettier curls because they were blond.The solution was that pa told Laura she had prettier curls because he has brown hair to. If I learned anything from the story I would say "You should not fight because then you can get in trouble.

I wouldn't waste my time or money on a book written or "dictated" by someone who can't even speak grammatically correct English. On the Real Housewives show, she says things like, "Her and her friend brought me a gift". She doesn't even know the difference between a subjective and an objective pronoun!
I really enjoyed this book. Of course, I'm a big Real Housewives fan, but even so there's some great stuff in this book. People should look farther than the show and see that this book contains a lot of great advice and is a really good guide in regards to etiquette. It goes without saying that people who enjoy this book should also take a look at Naturally Thin: Unleash Your SkinnyGirl and Free Yourself from a Lifetime of Dieting. These are both really engaging reads.
I thought the reviews were a bit harsh for this book, so I had to write my own. It seems some people are bothered by the author's TV persona and may not be reading the book. I don't know why the Countess said that to the driver but, it is correct for strange men to call her Mrs. De Lesseps. Having any staff or other men outside of your social circle call you by your first name is how rumours get started. That of course would be inconsequential for Bethany (as she is single) or for most people who do not understand what it is like to live in a highly competative and preadtory environment, like Manhatten. Perhaps it is this lack of understanding which causes so many people to watch this show, which incedentally should be called The Real Working Mom's of New York and Their Strange Husbands with exception given to Mrs. De Lesseps.

Most rich manhatten socialites are under too much stress already to be on a TV show like this (not to mention that it would be considered to be in poor taste by their acquaintances) and perhaps these are the people better suited to writing an etiquite book. However having travelled through America, I would recommend Mrs. DeLesseps advice over more stringent guidlines lest you be seen as some newly landed martian outside the company of aristocracy or other people or clubs who like to think of themsleves as such.

Formal etiquette is something 99.9% of people will never need to worry about and perhaps that is why the book has toned it down. If you've just married into an American legacy family and feel lost when asked where you have your personal stationary printed, get a book by Peggy Post. If you want to know the correct way to eat a banana (with a knife and fork), find a British author. Mrs. De Lesseps provides a decent primer on the basics which is more than most will ever need. I agree though, that the etiquette book and the autobiographical text should have been separated eventhough it gives the book a refreshing light and airy tone. It doesn't make sense to intertwine them, from a financial standpoint or otherwise.

Thankfully, there is still plenty of time for Mrs. De Lesspes to write another book. Perhaps she'll consider a tome on etiquette after reading the comments here, as well as an autobiographical text, but we won't want to hear how wonderful everything is, we'll all want the messy divorce details, pick yourself up from the gutter rhetoric, and all the nasty gossip.
You've read it and heard it a thousand times. Nothing new here. And you'll wade through miles of words intended to impress you, just to get to the few tidbits of old news, such as "smile", "close your mouth when you chew", "say thank you", "say please", ad nauseum infinitum. This is one of the nicest books I have seen. It is gorgeous to look at and very unique projects.
I have purchased many, many jewelry making books over the last 15 years or so, and this is one of the very best. I find the ideas and techniques presented in this book to be unique and exciting - it's a beautiful book filled with amazing projects. I love that the jewelry projects in this book are very artistic and high-impact, but are easy to make. I must have about two dozen post-it notes marking all of the projects I want to experiment with. I highly recommend this book and hope these two authors have another book in the works!
I love this book! I am generally a very structured beader, working with patterns and beads and am very interested in branching out into found art, using unusual components, asymetrical assemblage, etc. This book is full of ideas and inspiration. Very happy with it.
This one of the few books that just gets you started... I already bought a lot of stuff and searched all drawers and plan to go to flea markets looking for old clocks, photos, bells an other small but precious 'junque' pieces. I have the first project done already from the inspiration of this book on how to create beautiful bracelets, ear hangers etc from both wire, beads and then the best part - your personal findings, scraps, pictures, shells, and what ever comes into your inspired mind.
The individual jewelry pieces presented are mainly made between a bunch of women with this creative passion in common. A great way of sharing the joy of creating. Thank you, girls! Thess things are a lot more worth than any Cartier Clocks or other new expensive accessories, - because they have soul and personality.

Really? Really?!? Mixed media and not as many 'charms' as you'd think. I bought the book because I was enamoured with some the charms pictured - the details to make those are NOT included. I don't need, or care how to make the tedious chains to hook them to, nor do I want to present my friends and family with jewelry that literally looks like it's made of "old junk". It's comin' back Amazon...

When I first put this in my player, it slowly grew on me.Had to stop a song, play again.Stop a song, play again, etc.My toes started curling around "Girl from a pawnshop".What more can you expect from a man who has more soul than(GASP!) 1972 Mick Jagger!And the moves too! But enough of the comparisons.The Crowes stand on their OWN with this one.To me, this is way up there with 'Southern companion,Amorica,The lost crowes, and Warpaint.Their first we all know is a classic.Commercial, but classic.You reading this, well you need this.MUST OWN.
When this album came out, it was sorely dismissed as a rather bland and boring psychedelic rock album by a band who has seen their rise and peak 4 years earlier. Tis a shame, becuase I think this is the best Crowes album yet. It doesn't get more free-flowing and more beatiful than this. On this album, the Crowes get a little more versatile and a little softer than previous releases. While Amorica was loud and harsh, this album is more laid-back and easy going. Right from the get go, Under A Mountain takes a while to get under your skin, but when it does, it's quite amazing. Good Friday sets the "Sunday Afternoon" vibe with lap steel, stinging harmonica, and banjo, a bit reminescent of Harvest-era Neil Young. Of course, they haven't forgotten how to rock on this album, as it contains some of the best bluesy-based southern rock the band has ever created. Share The Ride plows on with a Bo Diddley-type groove, One Mirror Too Many and Evil Eye throw Beatles-psychedelia into their tapestry, and (Only) Halfway To Everywhere and Blackberry bring in a Sly and the Family Stone funkness to the mix. There's also some beautiful uplifting balladry, whether it's the Zeppelin-esque Bring On, Bring On or the sheer hippie beauty of How Much For Your Wings? These guys are all over the place on this album. It's a shame it got terrible reviews, as it is a real peak in the band's canon and creativity. They wouldn't shine like this for a long time (Lions comes a bit close, and Warpaint only works half the time). Get it if you're a true Crowes fan and a true believer of rock and roll.
You should own it if you like the Black Crowes. It's a good record. Marc Ford seems to be further into the mix and less flashy this time around and the production begins a more compressed sound continued on 'By Your Side' which sounds a little too glossy for the Crowes - compared to the organic sound of much of 'Southern Harmony'. Still, it has some interesting moments and good songs.
This album was yet another departure for this dynamic and innovative band. And it is awesome. Under A Mountain, Good Friday then Nebakanezer is a hugely strong start to the album.

The remaining songs are a mixed lot of different styles, some quite lo-fi with others being vivacious as ever. Three Snakes and One Charm takes a bit of getting used to at first, but once you get there, it is a brilliant outing.

I'm relatively new to the Magnetic Fields: I picked up their new CD Distortion about a month ago and was impressed. Then I ordered 7 other Magnetic Fields CD's and I was a little taken aback. They didn't have the almost Jesus and Mary Chain noise of Distortion. But soon I adjusted to the quirky pop sound of the Magnetic Fields and this CD quickly became my favorite. The Amazon reviewer is an idiot: "But much of this particular stretch of the Fields is lacking in charm, since Merritt's wry stance chafes a bit too hard against the guileless melodies." It a very quirky country sound, full of longing and ache and wry melancholy, and the CD is held together very tightly by the controlling metaphor of the road. I buy tons of CD's and this one is going to be one of my favorite purchases of 2008. I'm wondering how I've missed listening the the Magnetic Fields for all these years!
This is a great album, and I won't add anything to what's already been said. I just thought I'd let those who don't much like keyboards know that this is still a totally worthwhile purchase. I'd thought of trying the magnetic fields for a while but never did because I didn't think I'd like the keyboard sound that everyone talks about. They treat the keyboards so much, and warp the sound to make it so it really doesn't make a difference. The songs are strong, and I think he makes sure to never sound cheezy on the keyboard (maybe once.) Anyway the songs are so good that the way it's played doesn't matter. Plus, the keyboards really do sound very good for the most part, and serve the songs well. Guitar fanatics, give this one a try, it's an excellent piece of music.
I first heard this album about eight years ago, and I have listened to it several times a month since. It just doesn't get old--the more I hear it, the more remarkable it is. Many people have commented on Merritt's eclectic instrumentation, which is indeed striking. But the really fantastic thing about his music is just how great he is at turning out a tune. The instrumentations are novel, but not novelties, and the tight melodies have the charm and stay-in-your-headness of folk tunes. Stephin Merritt is just so damned smart--and not in a look-at-me-I'm-so-deep or hipster way, but in the understated, constant, prolific manner that makes for lasting songwriting. His lyrics are also smart and moving, even when, as with the 69 Love Songs trio, he insists on claiming they're ironic or meta. He's a master at wry, pithy little lines that stick with you a lot more strongly than most of the abstract, self-congratulatory crap that passes for poetry these days.

I've listened to each Magnetic Fields album several times over--I'm completely addicted to them, in fact--and while there's not a bad one in the bunch, Charm of the Highway Strip does stand out as the most consistently fantastic and aesthetically unified project. Give this album a try. You won't regret it-none of the many people I've forced this on have.

I'm in a Magnetic Fields month, or maybe a Magnetic Fields six months, who knows? Haven't dipped into 69 Love Songs, yet. And that's probably a six month project itself. But of I, The Wayward Bus/Plastic Trees, and Charm of the Highway Strip, Charm is my current favorite. Like the work of Handsome Family, Giant Sand, and Hank Dogs, this country is not going to be crashing into the mainstream any time soon. Made up of equal parts electronic, synth mixes, cello, and something that sounds like a harpsichord (personally I hear more Phil Spector than Abba in the music), every one of these nine vocal songs -- the tenth, Dust Bowl, is an instrumental that can be skipped -- trades on the classic country themes of trains and highways. Only in Merritt's hand they are neither appealing nor romantic, but obsessions that promise escape and deliver only more pain and loneliness. Which, of course, is exactly what defines Merritt. Lonely Highway, with its references to Jackson, might be the fate that awaited Lee and Nancy, Johnny and June, after they got married in that "fever hotter than a pepper sprout." My two current favorites are I Have the Moon (though written eight years or so earlier, it's what Drusilla might have sung to Spike on Buffy after he became human) and Fear of Trains, where Merritt joins the Ramones in having the KKK take someone away, in this case the history of a Native American girl. Next week the favorites are likely to be different. What's certain is that Charm of the Highway Strip as a whole is going to be a very long-term favorite.
Seriously, if you are a magnetic fields fan, BUY THIS. You may not prefer the more dark, country, sound of this album as opposed to the often springy 69 love songs, but i guarantee you, there is no way not to fall in love with this album. By my second listen, this album was already sacred to me, and right now it is sitting in its case after my last spurt of listenings, waiting patiently until the time is right for me to take it out again. My nightmare would be to overplay this album. Stephen Merrit's low voice will make you feel lonely as he sings of a girl's fear of trains, or a lonesome highway, but at the same time he soothes you, in making you too feel like an explorer on some vast, endless highway. The songs on this album make you feel that while you may be lonely, it's an almost noble thing to be.
Sweet and sour, incurably romantic, and deeply misanthropic, Magnetic Fields' mastermind Stephin Merritt is a one-of-a-kind voice in modern lo-fi pop. This 1994 outing is a bit of a departure, with Merritt taking his trademark ABBA-styled Casio-pop for a spin in the country--literally. Awash in lush, Nashville-ready production, songs like the doleful "Lonely Highway" (which encompasses snatches of the Lee Hazelwood classic "Jackson") and "Born on a Train" are nothing short of thrilling. But much of this particular stretch of the Fields is lacking in charm, since Merritt's wry stance chafes a bit too hard against the guileless melodies. Completists may feel compelled to take a ride, but novices should probably stick to the more urbane journeys offered byHolidayandDistant Plastic Trees.--David Sprague

(Great Way to Spend Time During the Season 3 Hiatus)

This product is great for Lost fans. As an added bonus, there is an image hidden in glow-in-the-dark paint on the back. However, you will need the complete set of 4 puzzles to make out the entire hidden image. Regardless, this puzzle is good to pass a few hours time.
Loved the mystery puzzles! ive been solving puzzles for years and had never even HEARD of a mystery puzzle!! im hooked now so far my fiance and i have put together 3 of the 4 in the series. cant wait to get started on the 4th puzzle and see the big secret!!!
We really enjoyed putting this puzzle together. It was difficult not having a picture of the puzzle on the box, but it wasn't so hard as to be frustrating. It took us about 3 weeks to work the entire puzzle. We turned it over to see the glow in the dark messages on the back, but weren't able to read them. They just weren't clear enough. If you rub the letters they get a little brighter, but we weren't able to make them out. If anybody has been able to read the messages, we'd sure like to know what they say.
It is a good thing classes start tomorrow because I spent most of the break from Christmas until last night doing the first three of the "Lost" jigsaw puzzles and now I do not know what to do with myself to the point that I am actually writing a review. This is "Lost: The Numbers," #3 of 4 in the "Lost: Mystery of the Island Jigsaw Puzzle," which focuses on the magic numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42. Not only are these all numbers retired by the New York Yankees (Yes, I know that technically Jackie Robinson's #42 was retired by Major League Baseball, but when Mariano Rivera retires they will do it for his #42 as well). To my great chagrin I was about 95% of the way through the puzzle when I finally looked at the big picture and realized what was going on. All of these puzzles have dozens of little pictures that are framed in some way and in this one the title ends up being a clue. Only a portion of the puzzle art is shown on the cover, which does indicate the Hurley's face is at the middle of this one and if you look at the framing device you can figure out from the start what the ten frames in this puzzle are going to be and not remain as clueless as I was over the past several days working on this puzzle, which, I should note, is oriented horizontally (light green corner in the upper left if you want to set the completed border up first).

Not having the complete picture of what the finished puzzle looks like on the cover of the box is obviously part of the challenge here. But since you have all these little pictures to put together you can make initial progress there and then start figuring out how to attach them to the border. Additionally, the background is equally diverse and that will help you along as well. Fortunately, you do not need to be as careful with puzzle #3 as you did with #2 ("The Others") with regards to having pieces that fit well in the wrong place: #2 had the most uniformity regarding the puzzle pieces with #1 ("The Hatch") providing the most diverse, which allows #3 to fall in the middle. It has been years since I have done a puzzle and I was a bit worried when I started these, but they turned out to be a lot of fun as I worked on them the last couple of weeks (usually while watching the first two season of "Lost" on DVD, and I should mention that my wife's brother's wife's brother works on the show but that I am privy to no inside information, although I was able to tell my students that there was nothing intentionally significant about the washing machine in the hatch).

The box for this puzzle has a "Spoiler Warning" that "Secrets are revealed! Do not assemble this puzzle unless you want exclusive new insight into TV's most puzzling drama series." But with this particular puzzle it seems to me the focus is more retroactive, showing us the various ways that 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 have popped up (or will pop up) in the series, with examples from it being Oceanic Flight 815 that they boarded in the terminal with Gates 15 to 23 to Claire's injections coming from a bottle labeled 4-81516-23 42. My plan was to mount the puzzle on cardboard for future reference, but it turns out that the backs of these puzzles probably contain more clues than the front. So it actually might be the fronts of these puzzles that you glue to a board, but as soon as you see the back of ones of these puzzles (hint "A" is to do so with the lights out) you will see that you will need the backs of all four puzzles (hint "B" is to think "Lock Down"). Now all I have to do is wait for puzzle #4 ("Before the Crash") to come out so I can complete the set. Now if the cat will just let me keep the three other puzzles intact until then.
Putting this puzzle together turned out to be a labor of love for the show. The box does not show what the finished puzzle looks like. As many of the images repeat within the puzzle, [...]

I am not yet sure what the "Spoiler Warning" is all about. I do know that if you flip completed the puzzle over, the image on the back glows in the dark. However, I have not been able to decipher said image, as I only have two of the four puzzles completed. I suppose that if you had not watched the first two seasons, the pictures in the collages on the front may give away plot details.

I would highly recommend these puzzles as gifts to Lost fans, especially during the season 3 hiatus.

Loved the mystery puzzles! ive been solving puzzles for years and had never even HEARD of a mystery puzzle!! im hooked now so far my fiance and i have put together 3 of the 4 in the series. cant wait to get started on the 4th puzzle and see the big secret!!!
These puzzles are great and collectable! It has been said that the surprise on the under-side is worth the effort, I agree. Here is another tip, buy a nice couple of pieces of posterboard at the dime store first. Place the working puzzle on one piece, then flipping is so easy. If you have never attempted 1000 piece puzzles these are good ones to start with for their variety of pictures. LOL after reading other reviews, I learned of the collectable LOST action figures, who knew!!!
These Lost puzzles are really difficult. I love doing puzzles and love finding one that's a real challenge. However, for people who haven't done 1000 piece puzzles before, this would be frustrating. I loved it, and it does have a secret thing on the back of it after you finish it- but you'll have to figure out how to read it yourself! I won't spoil the fun.
When I first saw this in Barnes&Noble, I thought "Cool. I will only buy one." Then as we started putting it together, it became a family affair. There was alot of foilage pieces in it. There also was no picture to go off of. It was still ok. As we started piecing it together, we noticed that there was very light yellow designs on the back side of the puzzle pieces. It turns out they also put a message on the back side of the puzzle in Glow-In-The-Dark ink. I will not spoil it for anyone, but unfortunately you will need to buy all 4 puzzles to get the complete message.
If you are a fan of "Lost", I highly recommend it. Also is a complex puzzle as well for you puzzle maniacs.

When it comes to perimeter insect inhibitors, the Malibu system works well. It's compact, uses very little batteries and extremely effective.

The inserts last a long time and are easy to replace. I'd recommend.

The only downside is that once opened, you must use the entire packet. You can't save unused portions
I ordered this as a refill, so I obviously like the product. However, the company (Noble Sales) was not efficient or responsive. I received an email that my order had been shipped, but didn't receive the product. After 2-3 weeks I called and was told that he would check into the matter and call me back. Nothing. I called a second time, and this person was very helpful. He said the order had never been sent to manufacturer. I got my order in 5 days. I don't think I will use them again.
I did this once before. I have used Malibu Mosquito Inhibitor for several years and like the product. It works.

Too many of the doubled up DVD sets contain one 'good film' with one 'sad second film'. In this case, both of these Goldie Hawn classics are worth owning, which make the combo pack a perfect addition to any collection.
This is a great product. A great deal for a double dvd. I recommend this to anyone who loves Goldie Hawn.
I've only watched Protocol and was disappointed in the quality. The film was too dark and had several glitches that nearly stopped the movie. My mistake may have been trying for a bargain and getting two movies instead of the one I really wanted.
Hillarious to watch. Goldie is a wonderful actress and these movies are sooooooooooooooooooo funny, i nearly wet myself laughing.
The item was just what we ordered -- good quality.
I had forgotten how cute these two movies are! We purchased them to watch before our daughter leaves for basic training after joining the military!

I love John Water's and pretty much anything he does. Pecker is just another one of his sick little masterpieces...Its funny, and touching. Its one of my favorites. but i think you'll have to be a Water's fan to really enjoy this movie.
Pecker is a film about a young man who is a photographer. He takes photos of everything. His photos are noticed in a makeshift photo gallery by someone important in the industry. The humor in this film is great its funny without being over-the-top like say maybe Will Ferrel's or Jim Carey's stuff. Edward Furlong is great in this one, as is Christina Rici. A very easy to watch film.
Pecker (Edward Furlong) is a naive artist who likes to take pictures of his family and friends in Baltimore. His name is derived from the fact that as a child he pecked at his food. He works at a sandwich shop, and is excited about having his first exhibition. It is a very amateur affair, but through some fluke he is discovered. Pecker's out-of-focus snapshots are being compared to Diane Arbus, but with empathy, and his work is sought by the New York Art Elite. Gallery owner Rorey Wheeler (Lili Taylor) is especially taken with the new artiste on the block, and attempts to lure him from his girlfriend, Shelley (Christina Ricci), who is too busy enforcing nazi-like rules at her laundrymat to notice at first.

Film maker John Waters (Pink Flamingoes, Hairspray, Polyester, Cry Baby, etc.) takes aim at New York elitists (he is from Baltimore), art snobs, censorship, and the unintended consequences of fame on an artist and their friends and relations (who might serve as raw material or inspiration); but unfortunately, nothing sticks. Best moment was at Pecker's 2nd exhibition when he temporarity turns the tables on the art snobs, who cry out "Here's to the end of Irony!" before realising the show is mocking them. Or did I dream that? I borrowed Pecker from the local library and had to return it before I could watch a second time to verify. Waters' film, Pecker is really just a gallery of grotesques, but without the empathy of a Diane Arbus.

Furlong and Ricci are two prime examples of child actors who met with early success, but while Furlong may have been jinxed, possibly by Pecker, Ricci seems able to bounce freely between family fare (Casper, That Darn Cat, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Speed Racer) and edgier fare (The Opposite of Sex, The Ice Storm, Black Snake Moan, Prozac Nation, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas)--sometimes even within the same film (Little Red Riding Hood, The Addams Family, Addams Family Values).

American History X (1998) .... Danny Vinyard is the younger brother of Edward Norton's white supremist--who tries to stop him from following his racist ways.

American Heart (1992) .... Nick Kelson is the son of an alchoholic drug addict who is trying to straighten out. Jeff Bridges plays the father, so Furlong is now officially Dude, Jr.
Terminator 2 - Judgment Day (The Ultimate Edition DVD) (1991) .... John Connor is the whole pivot on which the plot turns. Quite an auspicious debut, and it can't hurt to know the Governator.

The Opposite of Sex (1998) .... Ricci is at it again as Dede Truitt, stirring up more trouble.
The Ice Storm (1997) .... As Wendy Hood Ricci seduces not one but two brothers, but it is the Nixon mask that still gives me nightmares.
The Addams Family / Addams Family Values (1991) .... Wednesday Addams
Mermaids (1990) .... Ricci's Kate Flax is the little sister of Winona Ryder and the daughter of Cher. Quite an auspicious debut. Call Jean Keane to paint her portrait. Ooops, she already did.

Memama: Sometimes there's things more important than pit beef.

I don't know why I like these types of film so much, maybe because the stories are not stamped out of a production assembly line. 'Pecker' is a smart and funny film with a good cast and lots of quirky characters. I did think it strange that they portrayed Baltimore locals as a bunch of whackos but, the film is very good and carries a good message. I caught this on cable so, if you see it on TV....check it out. I rate it 3 3/4 stars.
We love it. Great cast, nice story. Wish more movies were as good as this one.
Pecker (so named, at least according to his grandmother, because he always pecks at his food) loves to use the camera to capture his fellow Baltimore residents living their daily lives. Of course, since this is a John Waters movie, those daily lives include visits to strip bars, shoplifting, and various other quirky, and frequently hilarious, human activities. When Pecker's makeshift photo exhibit comes to the attention of a New York art agent (Lili Taylor), Pecker becomes the latest sensation. Unlike the hero in most sudden-fame stories, however, Pecker, as played by Edward Furlong, isn't exactly an innocent; rather, he takes in the world with his eyes, and his mind, wide open. So instead of suffering a precipitous fall, Pecker eventually turns the tables on his more worldly New York peers.

While not as outrageous as early Waters features such asFemale TroubleandPink Flamingos,Peckerstill has something to offend just about everyone. But those who take the offenses to heart would be missing out on what amounts to a sweet-natured farce. The movie is not so much a pointed satire as a gentle teasing of the art world and its pretensions. The all-embracing world of John Waters allows for lovable freaks from the big city, too.

The movie sags a bit when it settles into its plot; it can't sustain the comic inspiration reached in the opening scenes of Pecker's encounters with Baltimore's misfits. But running gags about a sugar-addicted child and a ventriloquist-doll Virgin Mary are hilarious. What ultimately makes the movie such a pleasure, though, is Waters's genuine fondness for all of his characters. Aided by a charming cast, including Christina Ricci and Waters regulars Mink Stole and Patty Hearst, Waters has created a surprisingly touching ode to human eccentricity.--Chris Neman
