customer 's review (Easel)
(nice for the money!)
(elm wood french box easel) This product is good quality, can be changed from a desk top easel to floor standing and has a storage box inside to hold your supplys. Overall I feel the piece was great. It doesn't have a clean finish. The finish is raw and very naturalcould be sanded stained and glossed if needed. This is exactly what I was looking for. I purchased this for my 12 year old daughter, and she loves it, if it were for my use I would be happy with it also. It is very portable. Easy to fold up, and adjust. Very compact to store. It can hold artist canvas or paper sketchbooks and is adjustable by height. We compared it to one that was nearly identical but made out of oak at our local art store for $200. A very good deal and acceptable quality. We received it very fast, the company shipped it out within one day of ordering. Heritage Elm Wood French Box EaselAttractive and sturdy the Basic French Easel is crafted out of oiled elm wood. It conveniently folds to sketch-box size and opens up quickly to form a full three-legged easel that can accommodate canvases up to 33 inches high. Telescoping legs with nonskid rubber feet make this easel ideal for both sitting and standing work. Also features a divided sketch box drawer palette and adjustable shoulder strap. Overall measurements: 28 x 45 x 71 inches. Rerations < Heritage Elm Wood French Box Easel >

Very Fine&Delicate Bright Sterling Silver Cable Chain Small 1.5mm Width Sold By The Foot - Sterling Silver Cable Chain. Fine, lightweight, sterling silver chain. The most popular use for this style of chain is to make necklaces and long dangly earrings.
- Measurements: sold by the foot. the number you buy is the number of feet you will receive. Chain is 1.5mm wide. Each link is approximately 1.5mm wide and 2mm long. The wire that forms the links is flattened, for more sparkling light-reflective quality.
- Note: We have tested the hole size inside the links. Wire and jump rings up to 20 gauge thick will fit through these links, although we recommend thinner gauges, as chain would look too delicate in comparison to 20 gauge. Recommended clasps would be our 5mm spring ring clasps. You can finish the other end of the chain with our 4mm&5mm jumprings or our 5mm split rings.
- SOLD BY THE FOOT. The number you order is the number of feet of chain you want. NO clasps or rings included.
- All cut chain sales are final. We are not able to accept returns or process refunds of cut chain. Please check description for measurement details so you are assured you are ordering the right size chain for your project.

customer 's review (FUNNY&MAGICAL....what could be better?) Has there ever been a better actress to play a witch so wickedly glamourous? Could another actor be an unsuspecting boob so perfectly? Or have two of the biggest bumblers as relatives? Happily not! Kim Novac delivers a completely believeable performance as Gillian, the beautiful lonely witch who wants a "normal" life and can anyone top Jimmy Stewart as her clueless prey? These two should have done more movies together! As for the supporting cast, Elsa Lancaster (better known as the "Bride of Frankenstein") is perfect as Queenie, Gillian's aunt, Jack Lemmon in a surprising role as Gillian's beatnik brother who befriends a writer (played by Ernie Kovacs) and offers him an "inside look" at the witchcraft crowd, the head of which is none other than Hermione Ginghold (in a particularly hilarious scene with Jimmy Stewart - his facial expressions are priceless). This movie offers comedy, sadness, sweetness and a tiny bit of spooky plus a very crossed-eyed Siamese named Pyewacket. Great movie to see anytime of the year but certainly Halloween and Christmas fits best. This was not the first movie produced with this kind of storyline (Veronica Lake in "My Favorite Wife" for instance) but altho made in the 50's still holds it's own today. Even the fashions are timeless...as is this love story. So Ring the bell, close the book and light the candle - you may find yourself humming a little tune to your own cat or putting out all the street lamps just for fun! BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE is set at Christmastime, New York City, 1958. Gillian Holroyd (Novak) is a young, blonde witch with a passion for primitive art and the study of man. She runs a small primitive art store on the first floor of her apartment building. She longs for a regular life, as it is Christmas Eve and she feels lonely. She watches Shep Henderson (James Stewart), a publisher who also lives in the same building with Gillian, her Aunt Queenie (Elsa Lanchester), and brother Nicky (Jack Lemmon), get out of a cab and go upstairs. She tells her familiar, a Siamese cat named Pyewacket, that she'd like the man upstairs for Christmas.Aunt Queenie invites Gillian to the very beat and hip Zodiac Club where beatnik jazz and a smokey club environment prevail. Before long, Gillian finds herself hopelessly and helplessly in love with Shep who is already promised to another. But can Gillian win Shep's love and affection in return without resorting to the use of witchcraft (unfairly) to win his true heart? BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE is a perfect movie to watch, especially during the holiday months, but anytime for its delightful storyline. An obvious inspiration to the BEWITCHED television series that came a few years later, BELL BOOK AND CANDLE has its own magical charm that you'll delight in watching. (Excellent movie!)
(Poignant, Charming and Quirky)
(Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing&Charm School)
(MAGICAL) An overlooked film which is simply delightful. It is heart-warming, funny and also sad at times but altogether shouldn't be missed for those who want a film that is first rate. No car chases, no explosions, no foul language and you can watch it with your kids or grandkids. What a pleasure to find this little gem. This isn't so much a dance movie as it is a sweet lesson in life...about things not said, lived, done or rectified. Things that we could or would regret in the final review of our lives...in our last moments.
It confirmed in my life to leave nothing to tomorrow and take care of all things in my life today. I'm happier for it.
This probably isn't what you expected. The dancing was okay too.
I rented this movie when it was a new release, one of those random rentals, the cover caught my eye and the story seemed like it could be charming. Wow. A tragic story of characters who ache and struggle and dream, it nearly broke my heart with the melancholy hopefulness. There are moments of sheer joy and humor which keep the film from becoming unbearable. John Goodman excels in this piece, but I can't stop there. Each character is three dimensional, no matter how small the role.
The general storyline involves Frank who is shuffling through life under a huge black cloud of depression. He witnesses a tragic accident and because he is human, he does the noble thing by stopping and staying with the lone occupant of the car while waiting for help. A story is told and unfolds throughout the entire movie. A story that is haunting and achingly beautiful. One that requires Frank to take the right fork in the road instead of the left.
We now own Ballroom Dancing and Charm School but I haven't watched it again, until tonight. My husband pulled it out of the cabinet and I protested because the sadness, the intensity of the film, I didn't want to cry. I guess that goes to show how much this movie clicked with me. And that is why I need to write a review. Life is beautiful, ugly, horrifying and wonderful. This is a movie that presents it poignantly -- life is frail but it needs to be lived. This film isn't a good fit for children. The DVD was delivered on time and in good conditions. Only problem was we could not see it on our DVD player due to an unregistered international code. We still managed to see it on the computer....no worries :))) How my ratings work: 5 - I really liked/loved it 4 - I liked it 3 - Could've been better/worth a look 2 - Just didn't live up to the potential 1 - Simply aweful
Masgical is the best way for me to describe this films. It's funny, sad, touching, and all around well crafted. I loved the ways they changed the color for the 2 different flashbacks and then normal color of the prestent storyline. I thought it was clever to mix the original short film (which is good in it's own way) with the new film. If you watch this on dvd check out the short film by itself, it has some additional moments not featured in the full length film. There's commentary by co-writer/co-producer/editor/director Randall Miller, co-writer/co-producer Jody Savin (wife of Miller), and actor Elden Henson (who appears in the film and was in the original 1990 short). Everyone gives great performances and the music is terrific. Don't expect the a typical dance film when watching this because it is so much more than that. It's a movie that. It's a movie about loss, love, recindling, and yes dancing too. Frank keane is a baker by trade but now a man consumed by his wifes death. When fate intervenes he pulls over to help a stranger in a car wreck a man near death who urgently discloses a planned reunion a meeting with a lost childhood love at a school for ballroom dance. Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 07/24/2007 Starring: Robert Carlyle John Goodman Run time: 104 minutes Rating: Pg13 When lonely hearts want to connect, is there any better way, really, than dancing?Marilyn Hotchkiss Ballroom Dancing&Charm Schoolis a sweet indie valentine to dance, and to the connection of lost, broken souls. The stellar cast is led by English Everyguy Robert Carlyle, a widower who believes he's fulfilling a dying man's last wish--to find a long-lost love--by showing up at a Thursday night dance class. Carlyle is by turns awkward, warm, sincere and bewildered, perfectly believable as a man awash in grief yet hoping to rejoin life. It turns out that dance class, led by the theatrical Mary Steenburgen, holds his lifeline. Other strong performances come from Marisa Tomei, Sean Astin, John Goodman, Ernie Hudson, David Paymer, Camryn Manheim and Sonia Braga, all of whom play people yearning for something, some one. Viewers may get distracted early in the film, seeing Carlyle in a dance venue and secretly hoping the soundtrack would queue up "You Sexy Thing," to get to see Carlyle reprise some of his fabulous shtick fromThe Full Monty. But it turns out Carlyle is just as winning performing the Lindy Hop or waltz. And, the film suggests, once the body moves and the soul is stirred--can love be far behind? The answer is: May I have the honor of this dance? Extras include the short 1990 film this feature was based on and an audio commentary.--A.T. (The spark is back!) Easily the best season yet. All the Bayside student cast members clicked together. Saved by the Bell: "The New Class" is a wonderful spin-off series but the magic is truly back in Season 4. In the past three seasons it seemed as if the creators of the show hadn't managed to get together the perfect ensemble cast to match with the original but in Season 4 the cast is great! Rachel, Ryan, and Maria are joined by fellow students Katie and Eric plus a new addition to Bayside High School and Ryan's new stepbrother Nikki. Screech and Mr. Belding lead this cast into another exciting year at Bayside High school where the gang goes to Space Camp, saves the school's radio station, and competes in a dance contest for backstage passes to the MTV Video Music Awards. AC Slater even makes a special appearance in the finale as the gang remembers how great "The Max" was after it's accidentally burned down. If you loved the original series don't miss out on the fun that "the new class" has to offer! (You know what you're getting into)
(flavor flav)
(Horrible DVD Quality)
(Missing: Reunion Episode!) The final season of Flavor Of Love was not as good as the first two, but is still addictive. It includes 15 episodes uncensored and is missing the hilarious reunion, like the second season, because it wasn't shot in time for the DVD. There are four discs, packaged in three slim cases (the last two are in same case). The last disc includes three episodes nad the following special features: Casting Special Flav's Filosophies Girls Gone Flav: Ultimate Moments Flav&Thing 2's Parisian Date The Dead Bring Bad Luck Flavor of Love 3 Supertrailer (I Love New York 2&Rock Of Love Supertrailers are on Disc 1) If you're reading this review then you already know all about Flavor of Love. So I'll skip all the BS and just get down to it. Flavor Flav tries to find his girl and let the drinking, kissing, cat-fights, and all around craziness begin. You know what to expect, lots of yelling, lots of cursing, and lots of what made the first 2 seasons so great.
So if you liked the first 2 seasons, this is a great set to finish off the collection. If you didn't like the first 2 seasons...nothing to see here, move along. Picture quality is fine, although it flips between the full screen and widescreen (for the interviews) way too much. It's like every 3 seconds it's flipping to another format which can be distracting but you get used to it. Sound is uncensored like the other sets, lots of foul words and screaming. Extras are pretty lame with the usual casting interviews, some unseen stuff and others. Nothing to really write home about
Long story short, if you like Flavor of Love at all, pick this up. Great price (got mine for $14.99 I believe) and all the uncensored craziness you'd expect. best season yet, if you like any of the episodes then buy the whole season. This is the longest and said to be the last season. I wish I would have been able to watch the show, but my dvd skipped and froze through out every episode. It became unbearable, and I finally gave up. Hopefully I will be able to exchange it for another one. Until then I give it 1 star... The final season of "Flavor of Love" was quite an experience, not only holding the title for the longest amount of episodes any of the FOL shows have contained, but also due to the surprise ending during the Reunion, already commented upon in other reviews. Flav's "final decision" was a wonderful way to end the series, which makes the DVD's absence of the episode so much more infuriating, no less than the dissapointment I felt when the second season also contained no Reunion Special. The situation is somewhat remedied by the inclusion of a leaflet which states the following: "To Watch the Flavor of Love 3 Reunion Special, Long On to [...]; Enter the Secret Code...." Though this does make the episode available to all who purchase the box set, it is certainly less permanent than actually owning a copy of the special in the DVD format. To add insult to injury, the Reunion has yet to be added to the website listed, simply stating the episode is "coming soon...." (as of June 7th, the episode is now available.) In either case, I truly enjoyed this season and commend Flavor Flav for making the "realest" choice to end his long and colorful history on VH1, but I feel one should be warned of the content the DVD does contain. (Another book of Wiccanized Hoodoo)
(Wow, Dorothy! This isn't Kansas anymore!) This book is just what the Dr. ordered. She gets to the point that every other author doesn't want to tackle. Yes, there ARE times when being nice isn't going to get anything done. And sometimes you do have to fight fire with fire. I especially loved when Dorothy makes the case for action inspite of "If it harm none, do what thou wilt". It really doesn't always mean being walked on and abused and being willing to just take it. With her addition of the entire Wiccan Reed she shows that self-defense is sometimes the order of the day even if you have to be 'utterly wicked' in that defense. I had just recently experienced a situation where someone had done something to me and I retaliated in kind. So was I wrong? Should I have just 'done unto others as I would...etc"? Well Dorothy addresses this issue as well and I love her answer to people who just want the rest of us to 'take what is dished out'. If a killer enters your home and intends to hurt your family do you worry about the results of your decision to defend your loved ones has on the killer? Probably not, so why should we worry about the effects any attacker suffers when they initated the problem? Reading that just made me smile...very wide.
Kudos to Dorothy Morrison! This book provides a new view on the traditional "Law of Three" in the Wiccan/PAgan religion. Dorothy Morrison makes valid point for balance in all things and provides some remedies for life's little, and not so little injustices. If you want a well rounded body of knowledge for Alternative religions, read this book. Even if you never use any spells in it, the subject evokes a mind broadening set of questions to ponder. A great addition to any practitioners library. This book is great. It is not the sweet, passive, "things will work out" kind of spell book. No, this is the "Pulling out the big guns, I've had ENOUGH" kind of spell book. Take your karma by the throat, this is not the book for the weak or kind. If you are ready&need that extra push when nothing else works, try this. I ordered this book out of curiosity more than anything else as I am both a Wiccan HPS and a practitioner of Hoodoo/Conjure. During my years of practicing this tradition I've come to prefer it over witchcraft because it is rooted in long standing tradition, which helps to guide the practitioner, and was born in the US. I have found, over the years, that what is available in most books on witchcraft is rather generic as it as been cut-off from the cultures and traditions that first gave birth to it.
In this book, Morrison has taken elements of Hoodoo practice and Wiccanized them to make them more palatable to her Neo-Pagan/Wiccan audience, much along the same lines as Stephanie Rose Bird and Ray Malbrough did. Tapping Hoodoo seems to be a growing trend amongst Neo-Pagan authors when they are trying to write a book dealing with the darker aspects of magical practice. I can only surmised that this is happening because the darker aspects of witchcraft practice have been feared and ignored by Neo-Pagans/Wiccans to the point that they have become forgotten and Hoodoo is being used to fill the gap. Below I've included a few examples of what Morrison has included in her book, and how it differs from traditional, authentic Hoodoo.
* A discussion for those concerned with the Wiccan Rede and Three-fold Law, in the first chapter. While it is an intelligent discussion neither of these are of concern to those who practice this tradition as they don't exist within Hoodoo. Hoodoo doesn't come with a built-in set of ethics so they are going to vary greatly from one practitioner to the next, and a person's ethics are their own business.
*Using terminology from European witchcraft to describe Conjure practices. For instance, what she calls a poppet should rightly be called a "doll-baby" or a "dollie". She also seems to prefer the word "hexing" to "crossing" or "crossing up" someone, terms that are more often used in Hoodoo/Conjure.
*Wiccan-style spells created with Hoodoo parts. This is all over this book, and is the main reason why it is another generic form of magic and does not reflect the tradition Morrison is pulling from. For instance, in none of the cleansing spells is the practitioner's first morning's urine included as part of the bath when doing so is almost a universal practice within the tradition. Nor does she advise the reader that a magical/spiritual bath must be taken before the sun rises and the water tossed eastward as the sun rises.
*Usage of numbers with 3,7,9, 13 and 21 being highly favored. Even numbers (2,4,6) are not often used as they are considered stable and stagnant. This book contains recipes with as few as 2 ingredients.
* The complete removal of all traces of Christianity from the tradition, and the inclusion of things like the Norse Runes and curios related to the spirits of Regla de Ocha (Santeria), among other things. None of this has any place in Hoodoo, which is deeply rooted in Christian symbolism and belief. I will say that, Morrison is completely correct when she states that Hoodoo isn't a religion, but she fails to acknowledge that it is still a very spiritual tradition that is deeply connected with Christianity to the point they are inseparable. Spells are often closed with "In the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" or "In Jesus Name" Likewise, in Latin-based areas of the country the Catholic saints are often worked with.
*I haven't completely analyzed all the spells given in this book, but I have seen several that have me scratching my head. For instance, her recipe for War Water contains no iron!!! Nobody would make War Water without iron because it's the inclusion of iron that makes it War Water. Likewise, why do a commanding/controlling spell and not include Devil Shoestring, which just about any practitioner would. She gives a recipe for a Love Potion #9, but doesn't include any rose petals in it when most Conjurers would. Also, no practitioner would include Myrrh in any of this type of work because, according to tradition, it doesn't have any uses in "bad" work. She also seems to place zero emphasis on personal concerns, especially, those of the target. For instance, her "Condom Spell" to stop sexual harassment is useless unless the condom contains the semen of the target.
My last criticism is for the bibliography itself. Out of the 32 works cited there is only one book, "Hoodoo and Voodoo" by Jim Haskins, that is decent and relates directly to Hoodoo. The other books deal with Afro-Carribean religion, European witchcraft, Morrison's own works, or are other Neo-Paganized/Wiccanized Hoodoo books. Since this is not a book about Hoodoo it could be said that the more authentic books on Hoodoo/Conjure aren't really necessary, but it would have been nice to see them listed since Ms. Morrison is tapping the tradition.
In closing, I feel I have to cut Ms. Morrison some slack on this book. Clearly, she's not a practitioner of Hoodoo/Conjure and her target audience are not Conjurers either. I don't think it is possible for any Neo-Pagan author to write a book that included authentic Hoodoo practices and have any success in selling it to the Neo-Pagan community so we end up with books like this. It isn't a bad book, but please don't make the mistake of purchasing it thinking you will learn, or will be practicing, in the authentic Hoodoo tradition because you won't be. If you can accept it as another generic form of magic and use it as such you may have good results. This is the most wondrous, high-octane book on my shelf, and I have pointed several other Witches towards it! Hurray Dorothy! I recently used a fashion doll from the Dollar Store as a poppet, per one of the recommendations in the book, and laid one helluva hex without sewing a poppety stitch. Great for those of us who are Witchy as heck, but domestically impaired. I also loved Dorothy's tips on gathering grave yard dirt -- attending funerals have taken on a whole new fiendish dimension now. For those in the Craft community who seriously need to 'grow a pair', get this book! Hexes, curses and other unsavory notions. Most magical practitioners won't even discuss them. Why? Because they'd much rather find a positive solution that benefits all concerned. And, there's nothing wrong with that. Occasionally, though, our problems are such that nothing in the positive solution arena will handle them. It's time to make a decision to stand tough, be strong, and take definitive action to defend ourselves. And, if you're ready to do that-if you're ready to own that action and take responsibility for it-then Utterly Wicked is the book for you! Jam-packed with more than one hundred rituals, incantations, hexes and curses, this book is the quintessential primer for learning all those magical tricks that no one wants to talk about. Do you know the proper way to enter a cemetery? Utterly Wicked tells you how, as well as the proper methods for collecting and using graveyard dirt. Explore the little known secrets of the 11" fashion doll and see why it's become such a valuable magical tool. Then learn to prepare Hot Foot Powder, Four Thieves Vinegar, Goofer Dust, and other magical components specifically designed to obliterate your toughest problems. Most important, though, you'll also find the tools to protect yourself, your family, and your home from ever being bothered with these sorts of difficulties again. A must have for any Witch's bookshelf! Rerations < Utterly Wicked: Curses, Hexes&Other Unsavory Notions >

(Not what I expected)
(Fabulous)
(A charming trip back in time!)
(Just as described, fast shippment) The first half of the book is actually a totally different book, which should have been printed separately as "How Not To Offend People With Your Odor." I skipped most of it. As it's a thin book already, half of it being irrelevant is rather a lot.
The section that is actually on charm is pretty good, but very, very basic. They do give rather refreshing advice like, "read a lot of different news publications to stay informed," but there's also plenty of, "try to remember your conversational partner has feelings too." Thanks, I already know that, I was looking for some slightly more advanced techniques. Overall, I'm glad I read it at the library, but would have been mad if I'd spent money on it. I might not have understood the description of the book, but the title was misleading. I was looking for something that was more about manners and charm and this was more about attire and make up. I don't think it is a bad book just not what the title implied. In an era where women have forgotten the importance of keeping up appearances this book is a fantastic reminder to take care of yourself. The book is witty and filled with little beauty hints like a fabulous grandmother would give. I adore this book. When I read this book I well imagined all the aunts and grand old ladies of my family studying it for tips on how to beautifully establish themselves in society. I also imagined big movie studio heads handing out copies to the likes of Judy, Joan and Bette!
Most of the advice is timelessly true, but every bit of Better Than Beauty: A Guide to Charm is to be savored as a ticket back to the golden era when ladies were -- well, ladies.
This is a book to cherish, and it's going on my coffee table. the book I bought was not for me so I can;t say alot about it other thanthe seller sent it to me in perfect condition. Chronicle Books resuscitates the long-lost art of charm with this classic compendium of hints, tips, and tricks guaranteed to boost anyones charm quotient. First published in 1938, this delightful handbook is overflowing with timeless advice to guide readers through a maze of social interactions with wit and grace. More than an etiquette or personal grooming book, Better than Beauty tackles complicated social situations with delicacy: How to be kind to atrocious people How to avoid the gossip mill How many drinks is too many drinks How to deflect unwanted advances from married men How much to tip And much, much more With good humor, authors Helen Valentine and Alice Thompson offer straightforward charm counsel, making it a cinch to win the admiration of friends, family, and suitors. (Wonderfully written, why is it already over?)
(Charming for Goths and Non-Goths Alike)
(Not JUST for the Goth Crowd.)
(Fun and informative all in one very cool book!) A good look at the gothic mindset, from a dyed in the wool goth. Or would that be died in the wool? Sometimes, it seems difficult to tell. But most of what's said in the book can be applied to ANY non-mainstream group. Be nice. Don't be rude. Be thoughtful.
It's a delightful read, witty and insightful. And most definitely informative. Gothic Charm School is what the Goth scene really needs to branch outside to the masses--it's, well, charming, funny, so very *true* and Jillian Venters writes from a spirited, cheerful perspective on what it means to be goth, why goths and non-goths should be polite to one another, and so much more. I can't recommend this book enough to friends and family, or to strangers, for that matter. It's accessible for anyone outside of the scene, it's got tidbits for anyone in the scene, for younger teens and for adults of all ages--it's really something I think should be necessary for anyone interested in goth in general. One of the things I love the most about Jillian Venters, the original "Cupcake Goth," is that she doesn't take herself too seriously. That is the aspect of this first book that I enjoy the most. While Jilli is as passionate as she is knowledgeable about Goth culture, she isn't afraid to admit to--and even embrace!--its sundry clichés. At the same time as gently chiding non-Goths not to judge too quickly, she also reminds her dark-clad brethren that a sense of humor goes hand in hand with a sense of propriety.
The Lady of the Manners is both witty and wise, and she provides invaluable insight into Goth history and culture alongside her excellent advice. Pete Venters' wonderfully skilled and often comic illustrations are the icing on the (cup)cake. Whether you yourself are spooky or simply curious about those spooky folks around you, I recommend this book wholeheartedly.
Gothic Charm School: An Essential Guide for Goths and Those Who Love Them While it may be aimed at Goths and those that love- or just want to understand- them, this book is a true show of why good manners are a good thing for EVERYONE. As a delighted reader of the GCS columns and a "Goth Friendly" person, I appreciate the humor and wonderful common sense (not so common anymore, really) advice Jillian has to offer. This book is a humorous and informative read! I have followed The Lady of the Manners column for years. The book follows along with the humor and excellent advice that long time readers have come to expect.
The Goth subculture has sadly had it's share of unfortunate associations and misconceptions, but all of that is put to rest in this wonderful book.
Not only a great guide for Goth or would-be Goths and their friends and family but a good book of advice for someone that just wants to be a kind person without being a doormat;)
I find the book informative enough I purchased two, one from my home and one for the library I work at. Good advice and great presentation, an all around terrific book.
An essential, fully illustrated guidebook to day-to-day Goth living
There's more to being a Goth than throwing on some black velvet, dyeing your hair, and calling it a day (or a night). How do you dress with morbid flair when going to a job interview? Is there such a thing as growing too old to be a Goth? How do you explain to your grandma that it's not just a phase? Jillian Venters, a.k.a. "the Lady of the Manners," knows how to be strange and unusual without sacrificing politeness and etiquette. InGothic Charm School, she offers the quintessential guide to dark decorum for all those who have ever searched for beauty in dark, unexpected places, embraced their individuality, and reveled in decadence . . . and for families and friends who just don't understand. (Really Interesting)
(An Important Britten Collection) This collection of Benjamin Britten's music spans his career. The earliest work is the Simple Symphony from 1934 which was composed using juvenilia. Britten preserved his compositions from his earliest years and wove these efforts into the charming Simple Symphony for strings or string quartet. The movement titles: Boisterous Bourree, Playful Pizzicato, Sentimental Sarabande and Frolicsome Finale indicate the childhood origins of the melodies but the symphony shows the maturity of the composer who, at 21, was a master. In particular, the Sarabande exhibits a wonderful depth of feeling while the Bourree, Pizzicato and Finale are delightfully inventive.
The Temporal Variations is another early work (1936) that was performed but not published by the composer. The original work was for oboe and piano but was orchestrated by Colin Matthews for oboe and orchestra and performed in 1994. The Variations, consisting of 9 short movements, is a striking work for oboe and the string orchestra makes this an interesting pairing. A Charm of Lullabies was written in 1947 for Nancy Evans and was scored for voice and piano: the music was orchestrated by Colin Matthews in 1990. The suite is in 5 movements: A Cradle Song, The Highland Balou, Sephestia's lullaby, A Charm and The Nurse's Song.
The Lachrymae was written in 1950 for viola and piano and was revised by Benjamin Britten first in 1970 and in 1976 for viola and string orchestra. The inspiration comes from a song of John Dowland (If my complaints could passions move) and is composed as a theme with 10 variations. The music is introspective and reflective, indicative of the title. The final work, Suite on English Folk Tunes, "A time there was..." was composed during 1974 utilizing an older folk song arrangement of Hankin Booby as the third movement of the suite. The suite was dedicated to the memory of Australian composer Percy Grainger. In fact, Britten quotes the melody Lord Melbourne, the final movement of the suite, from Grainger's transcription. The music is colorful and beautifully orchestrated. The dance-like music of the first four movements is contrasted with the poignant Lord Melbourne, which is quiet with a sad English horn solo; the music fading away.
The CD has, for me, music of Benjamin Britten that I do not have. I was looking for a good performance of the Simple Symphony and I am happy I selected this recording. The music is nicely recorded and beautifully conducted by Britten expert Steuart Bedford.
This is a very rewarding collection of infrequently performed Britten works. The level of performances by the Northern Sinfonia and soloists are excellent. This collection spans Britten's remarkable career, including both the Opus 4 Simple Symphony and the Suite on English Folk Tunes, Britten's last orchestral work. These pieces show the remarkable progression of Britten's work across the length of his career. All pieces, including the Simple Symphony, display Britten's remarkable melodic gifts. The later works in this set reveal the maturation of Britten's skill at orchestration and his ability to exploit the qualities of individual instruments. Another in the reissues from Naxos from the valuable Britten series on the now-defunct Collins Classics, this program was originally published in 1998. Steuart Bedford is undoubtedly the leading Britten conductor and this is left in no doubt in this delightful collection of Britten works that span forty years of his composing life, from the 1934 'Simple Symphony' to the gorgeous set of variations for viola and orchestra, 'Lachrymae,' from 1976. All are played with clarity andélan.
The 'Simple Symphony' for strings is probably the most familiar piece here. It was put together by Britten from pieces he had written in childhood and the movements have witty titles: Boisterous Bourrée, Playful Pizzicato, Sentimental Sarabande, and Frolicsome Finale. Bedford sorts it forth in appropriately simple fashion, letting the music speak for itself. The Northern Sinfonia strings play beautifully for him. 'Temporal Variations' from 1936 was originally for oboe and piano but the presentoboe soloist, Nicholas Daniel, suggested to composer Colin Matthews about ten years ago that he arrange it for oboe and strings and that is the version heard here. It was premièred at the Aldeburgh Festival with Bedford leading the English Chamber Orchestra. It is a neoclassic theme and eight variations in the form of character pieces with titles such as 'March,' 'Oration,' 'Commination' (an archaic term meaning 'denunciation'), 'Resolution.' Daniel is fine advocate for this fourteen-minute miniature oboe concerto.
'A Charm of Lullabies' Op. 41 (1947) is also fairly well-known and has been recorded many times, but usually with the original piano accompaniment. Here we again have an arrangement by Colin Matthews, this time for chamber orchestra, done for the Indianapolis Symphony. It is sung here with simple intensity and wonderful diction by mezzo Catherine Wyn-Rogers. 'Suite on English Folk Tunes' Op. 90 (1974) subtitled 'A time there was ...' was Britten's last purely orchestral work. It combines some seventeenth-century folksongs from Playford's 'The Dancing Master' with songs collected in the twentieth-century from rural sources. This is vintage late Britten with rhythmic complexity, brilliant orchestration and open-faced tunefulness. One hears echoes of the 'Sea Interludes' and 'Prince of the Pagodas' in the creative orchestration.
For me the most riveting of the works recorded here is Britten's masterful 'Lachrymae' Op. 48a (1976) for solo viola and string orchestra. Originally written for viola and piano for William Primrose in 1950, Britten recast it for viola and strings in 1976 for a performance by Cecil Aronowitz and the ECO at Aldeburgh. It is a theme and variations based on two tunes of Dowland: primarily 'If my complaints could passions be' and, in the sixth variation, 'Flow my tears.' Of course the title 'Lachrymae' is taken from the latter song and generally reflects the overall tone of the piece, although Variation 8 is a lively march. It makes brilliant use of the melancholy timbre of the viola and is played movingly here by Philip Dukes. This is the astringent Britten familiar to us from such works as 'Phaedra' and 'Death in Venice.' For all its restriction of means, it is a brilliant and moving work.
We can only be grateful that Naxos has kept these wonderful performances of Britten's music alive by reissuing the Collins/Bedford series.
Highly recommended.

(Good enough to give chills, fun enough to sing forever)
(Justin, David Byrne wants his gesticulations back...)
(Absolutely Charming) 2 toe-tapping, fun songs: Things Are What You Make of Them, and the cover of Eve of Destruction. Bishop Allen Drive and the downbeat version of Things (at the end of the CD) are solid. Good enough to justify purchasing new. Go to the band's web site for best deal. "Charm School" is a delightfully silly set. It has bubbly charm of grape soda pop. It doesn't take itself seriously like on the wacky "Penitentiary Bound," "You be whatever you want to be&see whatever you think you see&take whatever you like for free&just like I've been saying every single day since I wore this suit..." "Bishop Allen Drive" is hilarious with its pop chorus and its stunningly bizarre story, "I don't know why, but she couldn't stand still; The radio was playing, it was time to kill; We were throwing furniture off the roof; We'd watch it shatter on the ground below singing la la la la..." "Things Are What You Make of Them" beats like the soundtrack to "The Tell-Tale Heart," "She said: Son, if you don't make a noise, God will never know you're there." "Empire City"&"Quarter to Three" are also diamonds. In Bishop Allen's hands, "Eve of Destruction" is remade in unique fashion. While not each track is memorable, there are so many wildly original classics that this is a disc not to be missed. Bravo! If you like The Shins, Modest Mouse, or even the better songs of the Rolling Stones, I can almost guarantee you will like this album. I heard a couple of their songs online, loved them instantly, got chills up and down my arms from their emotion and their innovation, and I ordered it immediately. This is instantly likeable music, music I knew I loved the moment I heard it. That bands like Bishop Allen aren't being hounded by every major label out there is baffling to me. This album features terrific female backing vocals, simple yet rocking and friendly songs, occasional drums by Microsoft Excel, witty lyrics, a terrific tribute/thank you song "Eve of Destruction" in which the band thanks all their friends on a day that might be their last. The album's also got funny liner notes, and one of the coolest songs I've ever heard, "Ghosts are Good Company," Buy "Charm School" now. Listen to the samples on Amazon, and then buy it immediately. And, if you like this, check out Soltero. Good music is out there, and waiting for you. Ok, well Mr. Rice fully deserves any wild hand waving rights though because this is a great album. Another live-show-bought-the-album deal (the guy on the left of the album, Mr. Rudder, actually sold me it to me. Sorry amazon) the album has only continued to grow on me. I could go on about depth of lyrics, mature sound, etc., but I can't compete with a guy from Rolling Stone who probably has a degree in journalism and critical theory. Let's just say 'Charm School' is a good buy for anyone who can stand a little bit of fun and is in the midst of the mainstream doldrums. A little Atom and His Package, a little Modest Mouse (sorry), a little Hell's Kitchen, and a little art school band all grown up! Pixies beaten with an irony stick! I could go on! Fantastic stuff. I heard "Busted Heart" on the radio and was immediately intrigued. Checked out some of the mp3s they had on their web site and after listening to them twice, bought the album. I love it! It's in constant rotation and if I don't listen to it every few days, I crave it. Every song is great. particularly like Ghosts Are Good Company and the reprise of Things are what you make of them is gorgeous. great lyrics, fun sounds, pop with a little bit of a punk edge. If you like pop, you won't be disappointed. Said Rolling Stone, in their 4-star review:If Modest Mouse spent a year in a Chuck E. Cheese ball pit, they might emerge sounding like the delightful Brooklyn quartet Bishop Allen. That's not to say that these indie-poppers aren't a serious band. On their debut, Charm School, the foursome blend sharp, jangly guitars with catchy melodies and big choruses. Songwriters Justin Rice and Christian Rudder write cheeky lyrics and layer their tunes with handclaps ("Charm School") and singalongs ("Ghosts Are Good Company"). And the band's carefree attitude, along with their musicianship, make Charm School as addictive as it is playful. Add drummer Margaret Miller and bassist Bonnie Karin, and they enter indie elite. Karin's ethereal backing vocals complement Rice's perfectly -- propelling already memorable tracks into charmed harmonic bliss. Rerations < Charm School >

'Twas within a furlong ... Man is for the woman made 126.Celemene, pray tell me customer 's review (Fine reissue of a classic set) Imagine the stupidest, most formulaic Hollywood movies you can think of: cheesy action pictures, fluffy, unfunny comedies, big but stiff epics. Now imagine that one of the greatest living composers was working in Hollywood, turning out astonishing, hauntingly beautiful and stirring musical scores for these throwaway movies. That's what you get with this set: music Henry Purcell composed for some two dozen often utterly forgettable plays (trust me--I've read a number of them!) Occasionally, when he teams up with a playwright worthy of his stature, such as John Dryden, Aphra Behn, or William Congreve, the results are even better, but for the most part you can enjoy the music here without knowing anything about the original plays.
This set originally appeared as separate LPs in the 70s and 80s, and has been long out of print. That's a pity, since Purcell spent a good deal of his short professional life in the theatre, either writing the incidental music contained on these CDs, or the music for his larger works, the semi-operas (King Arthur, The Fairy Queen, and the like). Almost all of these works are enjoyable gems; certainly, they represent a pinnacle of English 17th century music. Purcell had a genius for spinning musical gold out of the most leaden lyrics (check out his Odes and Welcome Songs on Hyperion if you don't believe me), and he does the same with the song texts in these plays.
Hogwood and the AAM offer clean, listenable performances, and the sound on these old analog discs has been cleaned up and brightened--although they were pretty good, even in the late 70s. As with most Hogwood, emotional extremes are kept to a minimum, so the "otherworldly" nature of late 17th century music, so often emphasised in more recent Baroque performances, doesn't come across here. It would be interesting to see what a group like The King's Consort would do with this music, but this set fills the major gap in the Purcell canon quite nicely.
My only beef with the reissue, as with many reissues, is that the liner notes are rather thin for a 6-cd set--the lyrics to the songs, for example, are especially missed. Still, it's a worthwhile set, and a must for fans of Purcell, English Baroque music, or anyone who just wants to experience a taste of the last days of the Restoration stage. customer 's review (Key holder)
(Good Enough)
(Love this thing!) I would not buy again...but I kept it instead of having the hassel of returning. It is much smaller than you think. You can't hang a ring of keys on one peg...only one or maybe two will fit. They are hard to get off the peg and if its too full the door won't close. Not bad, not brilliant. Each post can only hold one or at most two keys, so it's not ideal for storing groups of keys, as city-dwellers might prefer. Just what I needed. I was looking for some way of organizing all of my keys etc. instead of just laying them on the counter. I hung this organizer on the inside of my closet door and it holds a lot more that it looks like it should. Really cleaned up the clutter. Highly recommended. Key Organizer will organize everyday items such as key rings, cell phones, etc. in cups on outer door. Inside spare keys can be stored on 12 removable key tags with labels for easy identification. Screws, wall anchors and screw covers included. features Three large cups on outer door can hold cell phone, wallet, key ring, etc. Inside 12 removable key tags with labels Small inner tray Screws, wall anchors and screw covers included One year limited warranty Rerations < GE Security 001897 ccessPoint Key Organizer, Black >

customer 's review (color charm light natural brown) The tube is correctly labeled for LIGHT natural brown. However, the color comes out a very dark brown. If this is truly their idea of light brown, then I would have to order a blond color to get light brown. Ordered two tubes, so am hoping the other tube is an ACTUAL light brown color. (charms sour balls)
(excellent) I have loved these sour balls since childhood but was really disappointed that each can had only 1--I repeat-1 wild cherry sourball. The red included in numbers is something like a raspberry. Really poor form, Charms folks. I had this candy in my cart but once I saw shipping would've costed more than the candy, I deleted it. These sour balls are so delicious. They take me back to my childhood. Trouble is, they're so good that one at a time isn't enough. these are pretty good. there not so sour if that's what you're looking for. won't order again though, shipping is a killing! customer 's review (Really likey!)
(gold wears off VERY quickly)
(Great gift)
(Cute, but you get what you pay for)
(Not for long wear) This is the first time I receive a product (jewelry) which looks exactly like the picture. It arrived quickly, nicely packaged and it looks great on my wrist! Bought this bracelet as a xmas gift for my daughter. The gold tone was visibly wearing within the first 2 days she owned the product. She did not shower or sleep with the bracelet. After one week the bracelet looked horrible and my daughter no longer wears it. No response from seller. Shipped quickly and the product was what I was looking for! Great gift for 14-year old! It is really cute, a little on the small (and heavy!) side. After a day of normal wear, i did notice the silver tones underneath. I would not wear this as your every day jewelry. As an above review said, I would save up for the silver stuff. Maybe its supposed to look antiqued, who knows... I own both the starter bracelet and necklace that I bought at the Juicy Couture store. Since it is only gold plated the gold color strips and chips away with normal wear leaving your bracelet looking cheap as it reveals the brass underneath. If you get anything with rinestones, the rinestones may fall out(mostly on the charms). I do like them, and everywhere I go people always compliment me on them, even if they don't know about Juicy. I would say, they are cute and you can buy them, but don't expect them too last too long. The very best Juicy Couture jewelry to buy is the sterling silver but the prices are significantly higher. For a charm that in gold plating costs 40, the same one in sterling silver can be 150! My sister just received a sterling necklace that costs about 300! So spending about 30 to 60 on the starter gold plated necklace and bracelet and charms, is not too bad(although the charms are more expensive, but the bracelet and necklace look really nice without them). The best things to buy at Juicy are the tracksuits, purses, and t-shirts. Be careful with jewelry and even some of their shoes. So in closing, I love everything at Juicy, you feel like a princess when you wear anything from there, just don't expect their lower end jewelry to last in the same state you bought it in for very long. Definitely don't wear in the shower, pool, things like that to extend the life of it. And if you can afford the sterling silver, (as they don't have solid gold) jewelry, then that would be your best bet. Hope this helps!:) If you live for Juicy, you'll need this for your collection! Brand new authentic Juicy Couture starter charm bracelet, the signature core of the Juicy Couture jewelry line comes complete with a heart charm at the end. Length: 7.5". Toggle closure. 14k plate on solid brass. Presented in Juicy long gift box with velvet cushion. Makes a great gift for any Juicy Couture fan for any occasion. customer 's review (Good fun)
(Excellent way to use one's imagination!)
(Just a tip for those reviewers)
(My 7 year old loves this!)
(Creative and Fun!) I got this for my 6 yo for Christmas. I had to put in new batteries as the ones in the toy were too dead for the toy to work properly. Once I did that we spent about 1/2 hour recording and laughing. Good fun! What a great toy! My 6 year old daughter and I have such a blast with it. She also had a friend spend the night, who is 8 and she had a ton of fun with this also. The sound recording is great and the stories are so much fun. This is an electronic type version of Mad Libs, however even easier because it just asks questions such as your favorite sweet, best friend, etc, instead of adj., nouns, etc. A great way for kids to use their imagination and have tons of fun and laughs at the same time! Highly recommend!! I just received the toy today. I'm early Christmas shopping and since Christmas isn't for a couple of months I figured i'd try it out to see if it was working otherwise it would be to late to return if i wait til Christmas. When i turned it on the voice was slow and distorted it sounded awful so i changed the batteries. But even with new batteries the voice was still slow and distorted. I read the directions and troubleshoot section and it mentioned to reset the recorder if there were any problems. So i got a paperclip and insert it into the reset button. WA-LA it's all better. The voice is now fun and exciting and it works well.
So for those of you who have had trouble with the voice maybe if you reset the toy it will do the trick. As far as the funness of the toy, I'll have to wait until Christmas to see if my 5 year old enjoys it.
I think he will. I bought this for my second grade daughter for Christmas after she had played with a friend's. She LOVES it and can sit for long periods making up funny stories (mad libs style). Her friends come to play and they LOVE it too. It really captivates their imaginations while encouraging their use of vocabulary, which is a primary focus at this level in school. Cranium has such a knack for coming up with educationally sound toys that are fun and durable too. A+ in our book! I love this toy! My 7 yr. old little boy loves it too. He enjoys answering the questions and thinks the stories are funny. His twin brother, who is not as fond of toys like this, even enjoys it. They like being able to pick the story from the numerous selections on the dial. It is compact and can easily be taken on long car rides, especially nice for those children who are prone to getting carsick since there is very little looking down. It has 3 volume levels. Children who like to listen to stories and enjoy participation in stories will love this. Create outrageous stories with your own voice using the Super Story Recorder from Cranium WonderWorks. Answer questions with wacky words and funny sounds, then listen as the Super Story Recorder mixes everything into surprisingly hilarious one-of-a-kind tales. Requires 4 "AA" batteries (not included). (Rip-Off)
(Opens the door to the Fairy Forest)
(Charm Forest Entrance? Nope!) My daughter enjoyed receiving this bracelet (and some webkinz charms along with it) and still wears it from time to time (a year later). It is cute and durable. /this is a true bait and switch deal, It does not get you into the charmed forest, as the intro says it will.
waste of my time and money and my daughter was disappointed!!!
Please don't waste your time with this product My daughter purchased this item because the packaging says that the code that comes with it will let you enter the Charm Forest. When we entered the code it gave her an armoir instead of allowing her to enter the Charm Forest. We emailed Webkinz and after multiple emails they finally said that they changed their website and changed it so that this item doesn't allow you into the Charm Forest even though they admit that the packaging says it will.
This item rips-off children. Don't support Webkinz deceit by purchasing this product. I think that making false product claims is illegal. Bought this for my daughter. When she's not wearing it, she keeps it around the neck of one of her Webkinz. It's two toys in one! I didn't buy this bracelet off of Amazon, but My mom bought it for me at a local store because they where out of the actual charms. I put in the code in on the Webkinz Code Shop, and got a "Charm Case" I can put in my Webkinz room to look at the charms I had...but I cannot get into the charm forest with this Bracelet! You need an actual Charm to get into Charm Forest, like this one: PANDA WEBKINZ CHARM by Ganz
What you CAN use this Bracelet for: -As a Collar for your Webkinz animal IRL -on the flip-side of the Webkinz logo on the bracelet, it is blank. If you have a metal engraver, you can go ahead and put your Webkinz pet's name on there. a Jeweler might be able to do this for you for a fee. -To keep any charms you have already in one place!(However, I'm not sure if all 24 charms would fit on the bracelet...) Can be used to put your Webkinz charms on this bracelet. Rerations < Webkinz Charm Bracelet >

customer 's review (Did you know Death Gods love/(only eat) apples?) This is a nylon lanyard, with the black printed on. It's a little broken in places, but clear for the tiny details (and Light's and L's). It's thin but strong, and the design is printed on one side, plain white on the other. I've got my work ID card on it, and my key on the loop. The apple's pretty big, and it's not shiny/metallic, the art's nicely coloured and detailed :) It's a rosy, yum looking apple lol ^^ So yeah, just make sure not to get ink on it, cos it's blindingly white. The apple makes my key ring when they hit each other, both metal. This Death Note Lanyard features images of Chibi Light and L. An apple charm is also attached.
