This is really just useful as a spacer. It is very narrow and smaller than the sterling silver twist spacer beads. It looks nice next to open lace gold bead. It's so narrow, it's difficult to see the gold. I like it, but it does not appear as defined as the picture. Nice for filling a gold bracelet.

I got this as a gift for a friend who is a wine drinker. The sayings are very clever and this is identifies the wine glass easier than charms which are sometimes hard to see.
I bought both the wine lines and the beer can bands for my husband but the sayings are pretty "girly". We will get use out of them especially for when my friends are over but I wouldn't recommend for the guys.
That's what it advertises on the package :)

I generally don't have a problem with doing that, but I just thought these tags were funny. I gave them as a gift to a friend to spare her from the horrors of drinking community wine. I really don't know how useful these really are, unless you have large wine drinking parties, but if you're just looking for a comical conversation starter, then these are great.

Sterling Silver Cable Chain. Fine, lightweight, sterling silver chain. The most popular use for this style of chain is to make necklaces and long dangly earrings.
Measurements: sold by the foot. the number you buy is the number of feet you will receive. Chain is 1.6mm wide. Each link is approximately 1.6mm wide and 2mm long and .24mm thick. The wire that forms the links is flattened, for more sparkling light-reflective quality.
Note: We have tested the hole size inside the links. Wire and jump rings up to 20 gauge thick will fit through these links, although we recommend thinner gauges, as chain would look too delicate in comparison to 20 gauge. Based on the popular childrens' novel of the same name, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, this is a very engrossing story that in a way transcends being a childrens' story. It takes place in 1885, starting in New York City and moving across the pond to England after young Cedric Errol (Little Lord Fauntleroy) is told that he is now a lord and next in line to become Earl of Dorincourt. Cedric and his mother Dearest aren't exactly well-off, but Cedric doesn't want to leave at first, even knowing it will greatly improve their social and financial status, because of how attached he is to the city, how much he wants to become President when he grows up, so he can help the less fortunate, the horrible things he's been told earls do, and how devoted he is to his three closest friends, Hobbs, a storekeeper, Mrs. McGinty, who sells apples, and Dick, who blackens boots.

After moving to England, Cedric, now Lord Fauntleroy, is rather upset at how his mother is forced to live in a cabin outside of the main estate instead of there in the castle with him and his grandfather, the Earl of Dorincourt. "Grandfather Earl," as he calls him, never approved of the relationship Dearest and Cedric's father had, and originally didn't think very highly of Cedric himself either, but quickly lets down his reserve and finds himself incredibly charmed by his grandson. Cedric doesn't want to be the type of earl he's heard about back home, however, and uses his power and new position to help the less fortunate, like he would have done if he had become President when he was older. Things seem to be going swimmingly when all of a sudden it appears as though there might be another heir, with a more legitimate claim, which threatens to upturn the happy secure new life Cedric has made for himself. His friends back home, however, are positive this cannot be, and do some research to try to right things before it might be too late.

This is really a charming story, and also serves as wholesome family entertainment, despite the old-fashioned story (it does take place in the nineteenth century, and really reflects that different society and era), though it does seem a bit chatty at times for a silent film. That is to be expected, though, seeing as it was based on a book and not just created solely or primarily for the screen. The musical score is also very lovely, and the special effects are really something. Dual roles had been played before, but not the same way you see here, such as when Cedric kisses his mother. This was before they had computers; they had to create all of these special effects, seemingly primitive today, without help from high-tech machines. Although I have to agree that you can't really forget that Cedric is being played by a woman, as much as she really gets into the role and acts like a little boy. It was one thing for Mary Pickford to play little girls and teenagers, but in this role you never really forget that she's actually a woman and not a little boy, as good as she is at it. She just looks too pretty, too womanly, for people to completely suspend disbelief and after awhile just lose track of the fact that she is in fact a woman.
Little Lord Fauntleroy is an enjoyable Mary Pickford film. It is unusual not so much because she plays two roles, she had done that already in Stella Maris, but because she plays a boy. The story, adapted from Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic of a young American boy going to England to claim his inheritance, is well told with lots of humour and sentiment. Pickford does well in her two roles of mother and son and the way she interacts with herself on screen is a delight to watch, especially when one knows that these special effects were all done in the camera. Her acting in the part of Cedric can hardly be faulted. She throws herself, sometimes literally, into the part and does everything possible to transform herself into a little boy, but she is never truly convincing. This is not really the fault of her acting. Her mannerisms, her way of walking, her fights are all boyish, but she always looks just like Mary Pickford. In the end it has to be said that while Mary could transform herself into a little girl years younger than herself, she just could not make herself look like a little boy. She's far too beautiful and has too many curls. She remains, as always, the girl with the curls.

The black and white print on the Milestone DVD is pretty good. It seems to be complete and while there are quite a lot of scratches, this wear and tear is never really distracting. The image is clear and bright with a good amount of detail. I was generally pleased with how the film looks. The DVD has a good orchestral score by Nigel Holton, well played and appropriate to the mood of the film. As extras there are two photo galleries. Little Lord Fauntleroy may not be one of Pickford's very best films, but once you get used to Mary as a little boy, it becomes a lot of fun and essential viewing for her fans.

You can't go too wrong with a popular and much liked story like "Little Lord Fauntleroy" - the poor boy growing up in 19th century New York who learns he is heir to an earldom in England, and whose childlike charm and good-naturedness softens the heart of his embittered and grumpy grandfather. And who better to play the role than Mary Pickford who won the title of "America's Sweetheart" for her popular and pleasing personality, her impressive acting skills and roles that appeal to everyone. In "Little Lord Fauntleroy", Mary showcases her brilliant talent for playing children - both girls and boys - as well as her versatility by also playing the role of the little lord's mother. The camera work for these scenes - mother and little lord together - is perfect, and overall this film is faultless with sharp, clear picture quality and a most beautiful orchestral score perfectly matched to the film. The scenes of the old English castle, village and surroundings are also perfect and a pleasure to behold, but above all it's Mary Pickford's charming and charismatic portrayal of the unassuming and loving Lord Fauntleroy that makes this film a real winner. Her expressive pantomime skills really bring the role of the young Lord come to life, and you won't mind one bit that she looks much more like a girl than a young boy. Next to "Stella Maris" in which she also plays dual roles very impressively, this is the best Pickford film I've seen so far, and I'm hoping that the other Pickford releases that Milestone Films has planned for later this year will be similarly enjoyable. There are slide shows of stills and other memorabilia on this DVD as well, making it an excellent Mary Pickford edition, and one that will surely appeal to many viewers.
The 1921 version of LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY was one of Mary Pickford's biggest hits and it's easy to see why. It features her in a dual role as the little lord and his mother giving her the opportunity to showcase her acting talent in two very different roles as well as letting us see the two types of parts she would play for the rest of her career. While split-screen roles had been done many times before (Pickford even did it in 1918's STELLA MARIS) seldom has it been done as well as it is here. Not only are the double exposures perfect but the perspectives used really highlight the difference between child and adult.

Mary was one of the most powerful people in Hollywood at that time and she always worked with the best technicians available. The sets are stunning, the lighting equally memorable and Charles Rosher's cinematography is in a class by itself. The direction is credited to Alfred E.Green and Mary's brother Jack (according to Mary he was the inspiration for her portrayal of Fauntleroy) but you can be sure that she did a lot of it herself without credit. Claude Gillingswater as the old Earl of Dorincourt gives a marvelous performance every bit the equal of C. Aubrey Smith and Alec Guiness in later versions. As wonderful as Mary's child performance is, I never once thought of her as a boy (I'm sure audiences in 1921 didn't either) but she definitely was the character of Fauntleroy so it really doesn't matter. Her work as the mother is just as good showing that she could play adult roles when she gave herself the opportunity.

Sadly it is that aspect of her acting which has been forgotten over the years. Milestone's release this year of several Pickford films in restored editions to go along with those already available should help to rectify this oversight and return Pickford to her rightful place as one of the silent screen's top performers and not just "Little Mary", the good little girl caricature that most people think of her as today.

The film isn't perfect as some of Mary's concessions to her 1920's audience like the fight at the end seem out of place with the rest of the picture. Nevertheless LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY is the ideal introduction to Mary Pickford for those of you not familiar with her work while it gives those of us who are one of her best vehicles in beautiful condition. Special mention should be made of the fine orchestral score that Nigel Holton has provided for the film. Thanks again to Milestone Films and The Mary Pickford Foundation for making this and other Pickford releases available on home video.

I stumbled across Chanticleer in late 2005, while running a search for chorale music -- the album I found being Gregorian Chants -- and instantly fell in love with this wonderful group. I had known about countertenors for some time previously, but, as I had not yet witnessed the sound, was stunned to find that Chanticleer was composed entirely of males.

Their sound is wonderful; rarely do I catch them slipping in their harmonies, a quality that I primarily associate with Russian Orthodox Choirs, which I don't find often enough within the US-of-A. But being a stickler isn't bad; it's this way that I found, and stuck with Chanti.

The selections of music on this CD are wide, ranging from American Folk -- Shenandoah -- to Strauss' "Drei Männerchöre," and back to Irving Berlin and beyond. My personal favorite is the rendition of Allen Shearer's musical adaptation of "Nude Descending a Staircase," featuring X. J. Kennedy's text.

As a final note: for lovers of a good bass in choral music, this is certainly a CD to consider, as are all Chanticleer works, thanks to Mr. Eric Alatorre, facial ornamentation and all. He's certainly a warm, rich anchor for the group's sometimes ethereal sound.
The last work on this recording, "Jesus Met the Woman at the Well, is worth many times the price of this CD. Joseph Jennings' performance on this one riveting and the group really takes off. The entire album is great, but this piece is an absolute knockout.
This is a must have cd for any classical, choral,or jazz music fan. Chanticleer is world renowned for their abilty to branch out and do all kinds of different styles, and this cd shows off there incredible range and diveristy. This cd incompasses 20th Century classical, Rennisance, Romantic, Jazz, Spirital, and Folk music done with blend balance and style that each one of these genres calls for. It can take years for a group to do one off these genres well, let alone all. If you have never heard them this a a good cd to start with, and if you have heard them this is a great cd to add to your collection
The purpose of a sampler is to showcase a variety of one's best work, and Chanticleer certainly does that on this disc. The Gabrieli Magnificat captures the spirit of San Marco, Venice, and then jazz and pop numbers are hilarious! A lesser known treasure is"I have had singing"."Jesus met the woman at the well"...as my grandfather used to say,"If that don't light your fire, your wood's wet."
No matter what your musical tastes are, you will enjoy this CD. Chanticleer sings songs with such a beauty and clarity, it makes one want to take up singing. I highly recommend all of Chanticleer's material.

(Another great Hopla DVD for older toddlers)

Hopla is terrific. It's my little niece and nephew's favorite new series. They are 3 and 4, and they just LOVE these DVDs. They get so excited about all of the matching games and their favorite is the "predicting" parts. (An object slowly starts to form and gives the kids "clues." My kiddos go crazy yelling out guesses while the object materializes. So fun!)
I wish there were more of them!!

"What's it like being you?"- A classic line if ever there was one.

You have probably never seen a movie quite like Naked. It begins with a random rape scene and it ends..., well let's just say it doesn't so much end, as the movie finishes.

Naked gives you a tour of the dark underbelly of London as seen through the eyes of Johnny, an anti-hero if there ever was one. An intellectual who is on the run from.., life? the law? his own demons? You can't really say.

The dialogue is fascinating, the scenes bleak as you view the desolation and wasteland of both London and the characters lives.

It all takes place over the course of a day or two, and when I was finished watching it, I sat with my mouth agape for several minutes as my brain continued to process what I had just seen.

Kudos to Mike Leigh for making a film where the characters truly dominate, and where you really, really, really need to pay attention to understand what appears to be going on.

Highly Recommended.
this is definitely my favorite mike leigh movie of all. david thewlis is brilliant as the misanthropic main character and his wanderings through the city at night and myriad quotable diatribes are engaging and really draw you into the story. the people he meets along the way are engaging and unique. it's definitely not for those who want to watch the typical hollywood fare with happy endings and blindly optimistic main characters. it is a very thought provoking movie with interesting characters and i would recommend seeing it even if you are not familiar with the other films of leigh.
This is an unfortunate film, actually. Although, mostly interesting it begins to grate upon one midway through. Mike Leigh's strengths are his ability to demonstrate the 'lives' of working class britons with heaps of wit, charm, cleverness and bits of rather heavy-handed (tho not quite sappy) emotionalism. He's best when he keeps it light overall whilst making one or two quite heavy points. The problem with Naked is that it is all about heavy with very little light. In addition, Mr. Leigh tries but fails to lade his tale with deep metaphorical meaning in the way that the rather hideously bad film The Thief, Cook, Wife and Lover did although without the fantasmagorical posturing, pretension, piffle and puck. In a nutshell this is the tale of a working class Mancunian who is either insane or being driven insane by the workings of his mind. His problem is that he is too smart for his class (that's breeding, mind), which shows in his glib verbosity and abstruse philosophical riffs which he bundles up in clever entendre and verbal puns. The problem is that he is speaking university to working class yobs and yobettes which causes him to be alienating and alienated to those he interacts with, rather assaults. His failure, or inability to connect on a purely personal, human level further damaging his diseased mind which causes him to act out more and so on. Mr. Leigh attempted to stir in a few different ingredients into his metaphorical stew but he fails to, for instance, demonstrate that the working class protagonist's angry, abusive manner is equivalent to the posh anti-heroe's equally angry abusive behaviour with the difference being only that one can afford to 'pay' for his rapine behaviour while the other must merely take his rapes for free. I'm uncertain why Mr. Leigh brought that psycho-social angle into the story because he had enough semi-meaningless flux to deal with in the story as it is. There are other random bits of disconnectedness that I shan't bother to comment upon. To sum up, this is an interesting but unentertaining, non-thought-provoking movie that is worth watching if you are a big fan of Leigh's movies.
The fact that this movie snatched worthwhile film festival awards from any other movies is shocking and ridiculous. ANY other film is better than this! It has all of the worst traits of other movies that I used to think were bad, but now, in comparison to "Naked," I am realizing were actually good. These sour traits are: rambling, meaningless, nonsensical, "existential," blathering BS; disjointed scenes and lack of a story; characters that the audience has NO reason to like or continue watching for ANY reason; violent, misogynistic, nasty scenes that have no explanation nor reason to be included; a boring, annoying, worthless schmuck for a lead who should just be killed off to put viewers out of their misery; but most importantly, lack of entertainment. Films are supposed to be entertaining, moving, provocative, interesting, humorous -- whatever the genre, a movie must have a REASON to be watched, a motivation for the viewer. "Naked" has none. The only reason I watched it is because I was told to study the acting technique for a film that I am working on, and believe me, it is NOT a film that holds your attention. After an hour and a half of pure agony, I fast-forwarded through the rest, and sure enough, nothing really happened. I'm so annoyed that I bought this! (Amazon is great, though.)
I saw this in a theater when it first came out and left feeling stunned. Saw it a couple more times in the next few weeks and later owned the VHS. Just recently watched this DVD version and it's still the most powerful movie I've ever seen. This has a combination of high levels of intelligence and humor and pain you won't find anywhere else.

As mentioned, Thewlis deserved an Oscar for this performance as he and the propulsive music drive Johnny forward on his desperate search for something not to be found in mainstream society, something he probably couldn't even define even though he knows he needs it. All his fellow actors also do a great job, especially Sharpe as Louise who brought out Johnny's tender side and the late and missed Cartlidge as Sophie, flailing around in her own pain.

Well done children's film. Although it's a bit dated, Russ Tamblyn still shines in this children's favorite.

This is a cute movie to rmemember you saw and liked when the baby bommers were kids. Alot of the actors from the 50's and 60's are in this. A cute fairy tale movie.
I saw this movie as a 2 year old, and I never really understood it, until now the digitally remastered edition features subtitles as well as clear finished product of the old classic fairytale.

Jonathan and Anna are simple honest people living in the forest, one day a fairy grants them a child. Tom Thumb as he is called, is a naughty but good boy who likes to play with his toys as soon as the grown ups are away. The toys come alive in a way never seen before! This is without the implementation of computer generated images, just great manipulation and excellent directing. I give this movie 5 stars!!!
Though I wouldn't rank this as a classic family film I would allow that "tom thumb" is impervious to criticism. Almost 50 years old the entertainment value here is timeless. In this day of CGI director George Pal's visual flair especially his utilization of Puppetoons still impress. Russ Tamblyn as Tom is an infectiously energetic marvel. Good light comic villainous turns contributed here by the legendary British comics Terry-Thomas and Peter Sellers. If you were to pop this one into the DVD player I think you'll be able to keep the kids occupied for 90 minutes.

(Charmingly Funny and Entertaining)

Although I would consider this a chick flick, the mexican type of humor allows this to be entertaing even for guys. The playful and sometimes even cheesy sexuality in the movie is not at all distasteful or unnecessary, but rather adds to the comedic sense of the film and gives it a sensual touch. Martha Higareda is a great and beautiful actress, and truly gives her character life as she portrays a young and rebelious senator's daughter, who is sent to an academy for ladies where she is to learn how to act like a proper woman in order to not ruin her father's campaign. The movie has great music by Ximena Sariñana, who also stars in this movie along with Rafael Sanchez Navarro, Blanca Guerra, Camila Sodi, and directed by Fernando Sariñana. If you are a fan of mexican comedies, then this is definately one to watch.

I love this product and use it after I bleach and tone my naturally black hair white. With all the brutal punishment my hair takes, Wella's In-Depth restores its life and makes my hair look good again. I don't use this product everyday so it lasts and is affordable.
I really liked this product. Sally's had it on sale and I really favor this over more expensive conditioning or Kolstral conditioning. It is different. I see some bad reviews but truthfully its a completely different conditioner. I find my hair that normally will not lay flat , after conditioning, will really become tame. I put a slight amount on the ends of my hair when I color...or demi color and my hair after its over looks fabulous. It also is not so coating that youhave drab hair because of build up. The price is great and if you put your hair under a cap..(this conditions well when I demi ) man its baby soft. for 4 bucks give it a try you may love it just like I do.
A long time favorite of all the girls in our family, and I now order it regularly for our granddaughters. My wife is a former hair professional, and her opinion is good enough for me.
This Product is terrible....I went to the beauty supply store to get Kolestral by Wella and they didn't have it. But instead, they had Wella In-Depth. So, i figured i would just try it. IT WAS HORRIBLE...It was REALLY watery and didn't condition my hair at all. Not to mention, it made me break out in a rash on my neck. I don't know why they discontinued Kolestral. That was a better conditioner. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
This is supposed to replace Wella PhD conditioner. I wish. This doesn't smell nearly as nice (I actually do not like the smell of this and therefore avoid using it) nor does it condition as well. Wella, why did you tinker with success?????

The stickers are nice and pretty thick actually. I was impressed with the material of them. So far they haven't scratched or worn off or come off the phone. The display picture was easy to get as well. They give you a link in the package and ask you to put in a code and then you get either a text or email message with the picture attached. Pretty simple. If you're looking to decorate your blackberry I recommend this product/brand.
I really like the way this skin looks on my new Blackberry Curve 8310. I get lots of compliments and it suits my colorful pesonality while protecting my cute phone's outter shell from any scratches. The only reason why I didn't rate it 5 stars is because the skin comes with a web address where you are supposed to go to download your screensaver to match the skin color.... but for some odd reason MY skin design wasn't available (Pink Tranquility). I have tried visiting the site for weeks to see if they get it and it just reads "skin design not available".

This book was a quick read with beautiful pictures that caught much of the essence of Charleston. During a recent visit, I enjoyed seeing many of the things mentioned, such as "Charleston Green" paint. It pointed out many of the areas of Charleston with clarity. If you already are familiar with Charleston you may not be as interested, but might enjoy the illustrations and pick up a few tips. If you are planning a trip to this delightful city, then you will likely enjoy this delightful book.

I was looking for a spell book that worked. I saw the great reviews on here, bought the book and tried many of the spells. Not one of them worked for me. I have gotten other spell books from here that had not as amazing reviews but worked far better. If these spells work for you, great. But none did for me and I prefer to go to the masters of spell work and wicca. I should never have strayed because women wrote how pretty the book was and had 3 ribbon bookmarks. I care more about spell content and its outcome, not the color and interior artwork. Not all spells work for everyone. None worked for me. I'm putting this book now where it belongs: in the trash.
book contains gypsy magic that was basically a joke. I returned this book pretty quickly and regret wasting my money.
I hoped this book would be a real handbook of Romany spells and charms, something like the Romanus-Büchlein. I was disappointed to find that the spells it contains are mostly your standard Wiccan fare, the kind available in books published by Llewellyn. If that's what I wanted, I would buy Llewellyn books - and would have more than enough to choose from!

Yes, this does contain tidbits of Romany folklore, and some of the spells are partly based on that. But the author is careful to not claim that all of the spells are Romany. Instead the claim is: "This bewitching collection of spells draws from the great cache of magical lore of the Romanies" (p. 20). Note the careful parsing of words: the book "draws from" a "cache" of Romany magic, but that is not the same as saying that all the spells therein are authentic Romany spells. They could be modern Wiccan spells based on some belief or practice of that culture.

I give the book three stars because the cloth cover, pages and silk ribbon bookmarks are esthetically pleasing, and the "burnt" look of the sticker on the cover adds a nice touch. Also, Wiccans and others who are into these kind of spells may just like the book. But I deducted two stars because the book gives the impression that its contents are all of Romany origin, which is untrue. If you want a pretty spell book, this one would fit the bill. If you want a book of authentic Romany spells, this isn't it; try the Romanus-Büchlein instead. I don't know whether the latter is available in print, but most of the text is available online. Just compare the charms in there with the spells in this book and you'll see the difference right away.
If I had to pick only one book to keep out of my entire collection, this would be it.

The pictures and details in this book are amazing! It looks like a beautiful handmade book of shadows. Inside some of the pages it looks like pressed real pressed flowers! Even has little ribbon book marks built in the book. The book is small enough to put in a purse or book bag.

This is a very nice book. I tried one of the spells but it didn't work I think that I have to get into a better mind set and quiet place to work on some of these. They have some really interesting spells in it.

(NOT for beginners...some creative ideas to stimulate your own)

the pieces shown in the book are really lovely, but it's nothing i haven't seen before... this would be a good book for a true beginner... pretty good directions on how to make things, and where to get them... don't waste your money though if you already know how to wire wrap, shrinky dink, or epoxy seal.
I could pour through this book everyday and find something new to inspire me! I have some jewelry making experience so I can look at many of the photos and figure out how to design a piece that is similar. If you want something that gives you every detail of construction it's not for you. I probably won't do many of the great variety of projects just as they are in the book. But I'll do a lot of projects that have been inspired by this book. I think that is what Melinda Barta had in mind when she created this book. It is a book that gives me great creative ideas and just enough instruction to excite my brain to think of ways that I can do something creative. That's ultimately what I want, to design jewelry, not just follow instructions.
Just looking at the cover intrigued me to discover what's inside Melinda's new book. I love being able to create jewelry out of unusual things.

She takes you through all of the many techniques used in making custom cool jewelry. She cleverly divided the book into four information packed sections.

The first section is, "Pendants". She goes through eighteen different techniques to make some really beautiful pieces. The etch-a-bead is a simple technique that brings a striking element to your jewelry that just makes it pop. You don't need a lot of things for this either. And the results are beautiful. If you have some cute little stickers and some etching cream, you're pretty much good to go. Another one I liked was the Patchwork Pendants. They are made of cloth craps, ribbon, rickrack, and felt pieces. And you use ink stamps and embroidery floss, add a jump ring and.....wa-la, you've got a pendant.

The ideas Melinda has on cabochon pendants have an expensive look but, with her easy to follow directions and beautiful photos, you will be making quality pendants in no time yourself.

The second section of custom cool jewelry is charms. I just love charms! These charms are made of bead caps, cones, and common findings, used in nontraditional ways. She gives you ideas that I bet you've never thought of. Little open blossoms, they are really cute. Using only a couple 11 size seed beads, filigree flower bead caps and head pins. Another really easy one she tells about is the soft charms. All they are, are pliable fabric circles with an eyelet punched in the middle. But with using vintage and patterned material, makes them a nice touch.

The third section of Miranda's book is, "Clasps". Many beautiful clasps of different styles. From rings to charmed chains, to lasso loops and more as well. Which are all very inspiring. I love the charmed chains.

Miranda shows how to make your own hammered hook-and-eye clasps. Her instructions for these are easy to follow.

In the last part of her book she has finished projects along with instructions and brilliant photos to go along with them. I absolutely loved the Santa Fe necklace!

If you are a beginner and new to different aspects of jewelry making,she has a well organized section in the back going through everything from, what bead types were used, their shapes and names, wire size and gauge, various types of findings and tools you will use for the projects.

And a how-to section on simple wire techniques along with diagrams.

I recommend this book to beginners as well as novice beaders. It is sure to inspire something in all of us.

At first I was a bit hesitant as to whether or not I liked this book when I first scanned through it when it arrived on my doorstep. Now after more careful review, I find that I do like it for these reasons: The more extensive coverage of pendants and design of them. Pendants are often the stimulus in putting the necklace together - at least for me it is - for it helps me to determine the beads to use (from seed, glass, stone, other; as well as the stringing method). Pendant designs in this book give you a great starting point in going your own way using the bits of info Ms. Barta provides. Secondly, I really like that there is NO step-by-step instructions - just a few to get you on your way to design your own work. I am soooooooooooo tired of seeing how to make a basic loop (even though there is a tiny section covering this at the end of the book - and it only takes a few pages - thus subjecting this book into the intermediate or above jewelry designer). Third - I found that my own trend to combining elements to make an interesting pendant is repeated here and thus giving me more room to try other objects as this author has shown. Freedom in design - my cup-o'-tea!!

Wish there was more info on making clasps and charms - but then again, the publisher - Interweave Press - is notorious for limiting its books to 145 pages or less. Why? I don't know, but I think this inhibits the authors from really putting in more information that is desirable to their readers. Ms. Barta obviously has a lot of cool ideas and expansion on these (e.g. clasps) would have been a great addition to this book.

So for the pendants alone - a solid 4 stars; the selected clasps and charms - 3 stars; limited pages - 1. I know if I averaged these out it wouldn't come out to the 4 star rating, but as I said, the pendants are the key to many necklace designs. I also feel that all of the jewelry shown in this book is definitely wearable by many - why do I say this? Well, I am a bit on the conservative side due to my customer base. My customers and my friends do not want gaudy, wild fringe, irregular&often bizarre objects in their jewelry, particularly those that work in various office or businesses. Those books are for dedicated to those in the artist groups where almost anything goes - and for even me when I am in the mood and know I can get away with wearing such creations. However, for the most part, I receive compliments (as well as my customers) on the designs that do not overwhelm and even have a bit of whimsy in the pendant or charms. And this book does this type of balance very well. Good work Ms. Barta - and try to buck the system and produce a book with more than 145 pages! (HINT hint - Interweave Press!!!!)
It's no accident that Barta, Melinda's last name, contains the word ART. This chic yet accessible jewelry making book, Custom Cool Jewelry, is extremely artistic in sensibility...to the point that I (and any reader!) would love to own all of these fantastic pieces which Melinda has designed. They are up to date, or vintage, or dressy, or funky, or fascinating, or full of curious bits and pieces which have been pulled together by the author to make delicious sense, and they are one of a kind in style. That is why this book is called Custom Cool Jewelry. Ultimately, the reader is given the incentive viewing this lovely book with its solid teaching technique to go out and start making thoughtful and personal jewelry of her own.

As, at the moment, there is little interest in flashing "cookie cutter" styles, as far as jewelry is concerned, and most people who love jewelry like to look special and stand out from the crowd, this book is bound to be a huge hit. It brings artisan crafted jewelry to a fine point, and the author deftly guides you through the creation of unique pendants, charms, clasps, and finished projects. I have to stop right here and interrupt myself to say that my favorite technique in the book is the glass etching pendant technique. I love it, I love it, I love it! This technique is worth the price of the book alone! I do not think I am the only one who will find herself drawn to the mystique of etched pendants and beads, because of the way the author teaches how to create them.

But don't stop there! That's just the beginning! She has lockets with tiny and fascinating contents inside to die for, mixed media charms using a variety of glazes so that you can learn, as you make something fabulous, and simpler creations, too. Framed collage pendants with appealing images of stars, butterflies and angels...whatever is your fancy can be found in this book. Better yet, you can design it, because Barta shows you how!

Melinda Barta also covers polymer clay, and takes vintage jewelry and shows you how to turn it hip and update it. She teaches straight techniques, like lasso loops, and distressing, and how to end a jewelry piece with a set of orbital rings of your own making and some fabric or a hook. She shows you how to make a needle and thread mesh beaded clasp. I liked that demonstration a lot!

She also works with plastic, crystals, cabochons, and wire. She embosses and stamps! It is like a mini crash course in many techniques. Everything she makes is appealing.

The six finished projects presented at the end of the book, which utilize many of her techniques, are stunning. My favorite of those six? The "Floral Romance Necklace". It is light and airy. She has broken up the chain here and there with some beads to let it breathe, and the pendant she chose to finish it with, white with a black imprint, is something you can teach yourself to make earlier in the book. A true delight to see, and, I imagine, to wear.

Question: Would this be the very first book I would buy if I were just starting out to make jewelry?

Answer: Ummm, maybe; maybe not. Custom Cool Jewelry might seem overwhelming; it has so many types of jewelry making in it. In my opinion, it might be a great gift for intermediates and up. However, do not let that stop you from buying this fab book for yourself if you are new to jewelry making and jewelry design. Just save it, studying it off and on, for when you are slightly more adept! The learning curve for motivated jewelry artists is very fast. And this book WILL motivate and inspire you! Things will "fall into place", due to this book.

Additionally, there are some easier projects in the book which you can do right away if you wish, or even some bits of projects you can practice your skills on. I repeat, the incentive, because the projects are so beautiful, is very high, so you WILL want to learn.

The author's sense of design is unerring and delightful. Custom Cool Jewelry is a great book to own and use as a reference for your own custom jewelry!

The quality of the boots is great. It is definitely great for snow days.The height of the heels is perfect. The inside lining is comfortable and warm. My only wish is it is lighter and more elegant looking.
I love these boots. They are easy to get on and off, warm, and attractive. They feel a bit wide (I bought a "B" width) but that gives extra room for heavier socks. The soles are good on slippery surfaces and the cuffs can be turned up in deeper snow.
