(Why did you have to break up?!) 『Reality Check is best described as a gold nugget. Rare, valuable, and usually found in areas mostly compiled of dirt. While often compared to DC Talk, Reality Check is best compared to the earlier styles of 311 to the point where when I first heard them I thought it was the Christian music industry trying to capitolize on 311's fame. I was quickly proven wrong. While Reality Check has the typical rap-rock sound you might expect, the more you listen to this album the more you realize how diverse this album is. From catchy hooks to deep lyrics that make you think, this album is a work of art from beginning to end. And those who currently own this album will attest that it stands the test of time. 2003 and still a great album. The only bad thing Reality Check has ever put out is the press release that they were breaking up.』

When I actually took my polygraph it was nothing like it was described in the book. The interview questions are helpful, but they're nothing you can't get by going to different police department's websites and download applications to look at.
The bottom line is it tells you what the police would want a prospective applicant to know, not what would have been helpful to them when they were first getting started. But if a typo slips through the net there's no real harm done and someone else usually spots it and lets me know. But auditing a spreadsheet is a different matter. (Beginning to End - Better Spreadsheets) 『Whether your a beginner or a seasoned pro, I would recommend this book. It is not collecting dust on my bookshelf. This is one of the first books I have read that took me from pre-design to maintaining the finished product. The book gave me proven design principles that will prevent many of the common pitfalls of my spreadsheet models.
One of the first things I noticed was how the book took me from the preparation before design - to getting the data in - to error checking, with an in-depth look at calculations and functions - to the finished presentation of the data. The book was an easy read, not filled with lengthy technical jargon.

The story line was humorous, with a dash of suspense, a mixture of the unknown and family betrayal. Secondary characters added to the balance at perfect points in the story. A well-written story with characters, scenes and actions you were able to see and feel.

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Inaccuracy caused unnecessary fear&stress&antibiotic use) 『A month or two ago, I bought this Geratherm thermometer, delighted to find a mercury-like thermometer as an alternative to the electronic thermometers I distrust. And just fyi, my body temperature consistently has been measured throughout my life when healthy as between 97.1 - 97.8 degrees F, no matter what thermometer is used.
Twenty-four days ago, I felt ill. Because I had a headache, body aches, chills, a sore throat, and nasal congestion, I took my temperature for the first time with the Geratherm device. When it read 103.0 deg F, I was alarmed, took some appropriate over the counter meds, and went to bed. After a total of 23 days of a slowly decreasing fever (finally consistently down to 100.2 - 100.8 deg F), two rounds of antibiotics, and slowly increasing fear about what might be causing an intractable fever, I abandoned visits to my primary care doc for a visit to a specialist.
In the specialist's office, a new gizmo was used to take my temperature by a rapid, gentle swipe across my forehead which was over before I knew it had begun. This gizmo somehow measures the temperature of the blood in an artery - and the nurse informed me it was extremely accurate. And it read 98.0 degrees F: TWO DEGREES lower than my temperature just two hours earlier on the Geratherm.
I've not yet had time to get another, accurate thermometer with which to calibrate the Geratherm thermometer, but I expect we can all guess what I'm going to find: The Geratherm thermometer does NOT accurately measure temperature. It caused a growing level of fear and worry for me, extra doctor's appointments, and at least one unnecessary round of antibiotics.
I'm not a medical professional, and I'm not an engineer designing thermometers. But I am a mom. There were a number of times 14-19 years ago during which my then infant, and then toddler, and then 5 year old daughter's fever shot up over 104.0 deg F, and immediate trips to the ER saved her from possible brain damage and death. What might have happened, had I been using an inaccurately calibrated Geratherm thermometer to measure her body temperature? What if that particular Geratherm thermometer was inaccurately calibrated in the OTHER direction from the one I possess, and portrayed a fever as 2 degrees BELOW the child's actual temperature? Instead of just inconvenience, anxiety, and over-use of antibiotics, the use of a Geratherm thermometer could theoretically influence extremely well-intentioned and careful parents to delay a trip to the doctor or ER until an extremely high fever had begun to cause brain damage, or worse.
So until Geratherm gets its act together and ensures its thermometers are accurately calibrated, I am personally getting rid of mine. This is not the kind of manufacturing error that the public can afford to tolerate.』
(Not at all recommended) 『This thermometer is very difficult to 'shake down' and can take up to ten minutes of constant, vigorous shaking to get it well below the degree level needed to obtain a reading. Though tiring, this is manageable if you're perfectly healthy, but if already weakened by illness, it can be an almost impossible task. (Sadly, I found mine to be inaccurate) 『I had high hopes for this thermometer, after reading a medical article comparing it with standard mercury (Hg) thermometers in a clinical trial. All the accuracy, but without the significant health risks if it breaks. Well, I still have an "old fashioned" Hg thermometer, in addition to an electronic probe and an ear device from a major manufacturer (for the home, not professional market).
When I purchased this, I compared it to the Hg thermometer, since I have one and I was curious about the new Hg substitute. First, I put them both under my tongue simultaneously. This one read about 2 degrees lower than the Hg standard. I thought that its larger size might have allowed air to get by my lips&cool it. I then did two back-to-back measurements; Geratherm, Hg; Geratherm, Hg. Four minutes each, all at rest, one immediately after the other, and always placing them in the same location. Both devices were "internally" consistent - that is the Hg gave the same temp both times, sequentially, as did the Geratherm. So far, so good. Consistency is necessary in a measuring instrument. HOWEVER, on both occasions the Geratherm now measured a full two (2) degrees HIGHER than the Hg! NOT good! I then checked my temp using the oral electronic probe; it was 0.2 degrees off from the Hg. I then used the ear probe (both ears) and surprisingly it, too, was actually very close to the Hg (0.2 degrees difference between the 2 ears; average 0.3 degrees off from Hg, just a bit lower otic (ear) than oral).
For this reason, I'm returning it, and I'm going to try another one. I suspect that it's a manufacturing defect explained by the construction of this thermometer - it's a glass tube within a second glass housing, and there's a paper scale behind the capillary tube containing the liquid. If that paper is not placed properly, the reading will be "off." The device's consistency suggests that the liquid expanded properly&consistently in response to my temp. My old Hg thermometer has the typical printing on the glass. Sure, that could be off, but those devices have been standardized over decades. And the good correlation with other devices (particularly the electronic probe, which I've calibrated against known standards - freezing&boiling water,&it's accurate) suggests that my old thermometer is the correct one.
Other comments - I didn't find it particularly worse than the old standard to "shake down;" each took the same # of shakes to return to baseline. I'd seen reviews elsewhere in which users had complained about this being difficult. Yes, if one has arthritis, neither this nor a mercury thermometer are easy to use, and you're probably best off with a high rated electronic probe. Also, the outer glass housing is much larger (about 3X) the size of the Hg thermometer, which made it a little more cumbersome to hold under the tongue, but not impossible. Because of its size, I don't think it would be particularly good for a child under about age 7-8.
Hope this helps other users. I am concerned about this, especially as a medical professional, because not everyone has a mercury thermometer to compare against. This 2 degree difference could mean a LOT if you're using this in a "sick" situation (e.g. deciding if your older child can go to school or not). I plan on contacting the manufacturer about this.
