it is obsolete. i wasted $150.00 on the CCSA, this book doesn't cover smart defense and is too basic for a firewall admin.
I'm in charge of several firewall-1 (NG). Because of this I got 5 books on this matter. Well, believe me, is like as I only had just one. This one !
In fact all the needed information is not only thoughtfully covered but besides it is well and coherently explained and correlated with the surrounding issues.
If you add up the information scattered in the other books, you'll find the same information contained in this book, only in a lot more hard to handle, diffuse and even contradictory. Firewall-1?. . . with the only help of this book you are done.
This book is a wealth of information. I bought it specifically for the chapter on installing Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 on Solaris. It was excellent. In addition, the chapters on the graphical interface and the security policy are comprehensive and very well written. Great coverage of NAT, OPSEC, and SAM. If you are using CheckPoint, pick it up.
My boss bought a copy for our department and I can't tell you how many times its been referred to for information in the last month or two. There is great coverage of everything: VPN-1/FireWall-1 installation on Windows, Solaris, and Nokia. Also coverage of SecureUpdate, security polcies, NAT, authentication, content filtering, VPNs. The advanced configuration chapter could have been beefier, but that's my only criticism of the book.
Great book- excellent book on Next Generation. I have a couple of Check Point books on my shelf- this one is the one I find myself referring to time and time again... If you're looking for good books on this same sort of stuff, pick up the Nokia book by the same publisher- I just got my copy yesterday and so far it's excellent. These two books are a must have for any person working with Check Point products...
Check Point NGaims to teach its readers how to install and set up VPN-1/FireWall-1 Next Generation, the latest version of the highly respected firewall software from Check Point. Its authors--all with significant network and security certifications--accomplish their objective: it seems likely that this book will travel with a lot of Check Point consultants and stand ready on the shelves of many organizations' network security specialists. The book has plenty of unadorned how-to procedures that get straight to the point, and enough background information to help you make good designs and troubleshoot problems. The Syngress style, which incorporates a carefully considered list of questions and answers at the end of each chapter, suits this subject well. It's easy to locate sections of interest or to scan straight through and accumulate knowledge.

Your security requirements are unique, of course, but the authors do a good job of explaining how to satisfy common requirements and implement variations upon them. For example, they show how to configure Network Address Translation (NAT) in a general way, then--in a Q&A section--show how to combine sequentially numbered networks into a single network object for easy administration of rules. This is documentation worth having.--David Wall

This is a great book. King has written a comprehensive guide to finding information on anyone, especially if they are to play an essential role in your life -- doctor, attorney, lover, etc. I am particularly impressed with his chapter Checking Out Your Date, Lover or Spouse, which should be SOP for women today; and his chapter Checking Out Your Physician -- something most of us have not known how to do before now. These areas are vital to a woman's health and safety, and King supplies the means of knowing exactly who you are dealing with by presenting step-by-step techniques for investigating a person's backround and history. I think, in this day and age, everyone should have a copy of GET THE FACTS ON ANYONE.
This guide was comprehensive, thorough, and was chock full of information. Get the Facts on Anyone, was full of resources, both online and offline of getting information. This book can be used to verify information you think you already know, or find out what you may not know. Well worth the investment.
I have read or looked into almost every book on this topic and feel Get the Facts on Anyone is one of the best and a worthwhile investment. It is logically laid out, professionally written and full of usable action items. Don't hesitate to purchase this book.

As a teacher, student and system Engineer, I am very busy with no much time to waist. I came across this book few months ago when I needed to get a rapid info on several subjects I needed review on. . No much time to take a full class so I purchase this box. Boy, I was so glad. Can't beat the investment. The material is to the point. Well presented and very concise. The CD is a gem. I got a lot from this book then did some work myself. I think the author did an excellent work.

Just failed the exam due to this book. As per other reviews the book does not cover Application Inteligence or Smart Defense which have been added to the new Checkpoint CCSA exam. The other topics are covered very well but despite scoring over 80% on the other topics my 8% I scraped on Smart Defense was not enough to get me a pass. If they bring out a book that covers the 156-210.4 exam I would highly recommend it (unless Checkpoint have brought out feature pack 5!!).
I just wasted $150 on the exam. The test contains many questions about Application Intelligence and SmartDefense. Two topics that not covered in this book. I should have read these reviews before buying.
I've been working with Checkpoint Firewall-1 for 5 years now, so I picked up this book as a review when I was told to get my CCSA and CCSE by my employer. I have not taken the exam yet, so I don't know how well it prepares one for the exam, but I do know that I consider my knowledge of FW-1 to be deeper than most, yet I still learned some new tricks from this book.

That was the high point. I thought the information was arranged in a confusing manner and that the questions at the end of the chapter were very poorly worded and caused a lot of confusion. Also, get used to the phrase"it's important to understand". It is used in practically every paragraph. After awhile, it began to bug me. Is this sentance important to understand, while the rest of the reading isn't? If I pay $40 for a book, it better all be important for me to understand. It's a stupid cliche, and it's redundancy got very tedious.
Buyer beware. This book, published January 2003, does not cover Application Intelligence or SmartDefense, two subjects included on the new Checkpoint 156-210 exam as of July 2003.
